hello and how are you, fellow Wanderers?

Welcome to the Writing Blog! We are the Not Yet Dead Authors, the Natsume Rune System! You may refer to us as Natsume as a whole, or say hi to any of the specifics who are also running around within the blog / do the writes!

Our pronouns are we/they, and we are an aromantic / asexual genderfluid cluster of whispers drowning in the Void for more than two decades. So just another set of Wanderers who wish to reach out and touch the Worlds in a more pronounced way!

A Proper Introduction

We write mostly fantasy but also dabble in horror, science fiction, dystopian and other works and writing styles. It's mostly just whatever it is that catches us in a choke hold and demands words for our continued Existence.

We do hold our own universe, the Storyverse, that we will hint, note, and talk about, depending on things, as well as a multitude of Worlds that will be given over to the Stories happening within them.

Our writing formats include: fanfiction, short stories, drabbles, flash fiction, novels, poems, and prompt responses! We enjoy rolling through forms and trying out different ways of telling and sharing stories, so please note that there will be a lot of everything on here.

We follow from the System's Blog, @365runesofthesystem, and will try to be really active in the community, so if you see us around, then feel free to indulge us! We love to be tagged in games and sent asks and the like and will try to get to all of them in due time.

ok i admit i dont really go for urban fantasy and the combat/fighting scenes in it were rough and i thought some of the plot was dumb but the first book in the tarot sequence got me??? like a solid 3.5/5 which given my innate distaste for UF is p damn high. it's about the RELATIONSHIPS. the rune-brand brother bond and how they understand each other and love each other and fight and cuss each other out and care so deeply and apologize and work around each other's trauma and triggers. addam's priority always being his brother. THE TERRIBLE DELIGHTFUL TEENS MAX AND QUINN. whatever the fuck is going on with ciaran i adore him. the 20+ yr recovery arc. the magic system with the sigils and courts based on the major arcana. the INSANE amount of plot bombs dropped in the book 1 epilogue. everyone is so traumatized and yet they get up and they try. ive only had max for a day and a half etc etc etc

like. it is dark and heavy and holy holy shit content warnings abound i would not actually /recommend/ it to most ppl because of that, but it's not grimdark. terrible unspeakable things happen and keep happening and yet there is tentative hope of ending the cycle or at least saving a few kids and building a home and there's love and accidental child acquisition and idk ik ive been real tired lately and it's no masterpiece. but it hit in some kind of way i wasnt expecting it to

I love The Eidolon, it has got to be my favourite out of the short stories (mostly cause we get Quinn's pov and I love Quinn 🥰🥰) but also cause of that ending omg 🤯 I have so many questions and theories now 👀😂😂 And yes I saw about the Patreon! I'm gonna have to become a supporter 😝. I eat up all the snippets he puts on twitter (and send them to a friend of mine who has only read the last sun in hopes she'll keep reading them 😝😂)

Oh oh the ending of Eidolon had me gasping, holy shit!! How could I have not seen it?? Especially with all the secret spying that had been done to Rune and Brand!!!??? Omg I have my own theories about that and I really hope we found out in book 4!!!

My personal fav short story was Tales from Quarantine because what were they thinking sending RUNE SAINT JOHN to go emergency shopping? Of course he was going to forget the toilet paper!! And there is SO much Found Family feels and I'm a sucker for that! 😭😭😭

This has been far too long since we have been active and we've wanted to get back into the flow of things! And we believe it is time for a Reintroduction! So, without further ado,

Getting To Know Us

We are most comfortable writing and conversing in italics! It just feels like it speaks with our souls, so please be aware that most of the posts and such will be within that realm of writing.

Our most comfortable sense of writing is in third person present tense! We also write in first person (sometimes) and second person (rarely) but our comfort lies in others and their present.

We write mostly fantasy but also dabble in horror, science fiction, dystopian and other works and writing styles. We do hold our own universe, the Storyverse, that we will hint, note, and talk about, depending on things, as well as a multitude of Worlds that will be given over to the Stories happening within in. Hardcore about both worldbuilding and storytelling, so we will probably have a lot to say about both the Worlds and Stories that come with our hyperfixations.

Our writing forms include: fanfiction, short stories, drabbles, flash fiction, novels, poems, and role playing! We enjoy rolling through forms and trying out different ways of telling and sharing stories, so please note that there will be a lot of everything on here.

We follow from the System's Blog, @365runesofthesystem, and will try to be really active in the community, so if you see us around, then feel free to indulge us! We love to be tagged in games and sent asks and the like and will try to get to all of them in due time. [ yes, we do hoard Tag Games, shut the fuck up about it. ]

If there is anything else anyone would like to know, do not hesitate to ask or message us! But be aware that we are not afraid to deal with anything impolite or inappropriate, we have a zero tolerance standard and we will keep it without hesitation.

The Rapunzel Witch

Vibrant and sharp, it is another small check to his identity; the Queen is staring at him, though instead of the hard determination of a leader, he stands before the soft gentleness of a person unused to such direct contact. Something shifts in those eyes; the Royal Majesty frowns more before he lets his eyes drop to the ground between them. “Well, that’s that then, isn’t it?” The Knight feels a soft pang; he almost takes a step forward, hand twitching at his side before the Royal spins around and walks away from him. “Your obligations are fulfilled; the Rapunzel Witch lives.”

my love of characters with psychic bonds is only matched by my love of stories about characters with psychic bonds that really gets Into That you know and i think that's what gets me about the tarot sequence. like the series is about consent such a lot of the time, in all contexts, and about how the structure of the arcanum inherently strips people of their ability to consent over and over. and then also Companion Bonds Exist. and it makes me feel like a dog shaking a toy in its teeth because it's NOT an okay thing!!! like rune and brand are the ideal team and best friends of course but hey the fact that the arcanum can just DO that. just take a human kid and decide oh this is a mind bond friend for my own kid is so fucked up!!! and i don't think the series addresses that in the way that i want it to, because it doesnt mean that idk rune and brands relationship is inherently bad or the resolution is them not being together anymore or anything like that, and im DEFINITELY not against stories in which the psychic bond is created by outside systems to the people within the bond, but i would be so interested in seeing how it just complicates it. rune, seeing other companions who could end up in awful situations they can't leave. rune, loving his companion more than anything despite it. i LIVE for the conflict between two deeply held beliefs it would be so fascinating

Foorptint and Uknownic runes, bereft of character ranting. Unknownic is obviously a stand in for the English alphabet, but Footprint Runes are not a clear cut swap. Certain letters either don't exist or have to use other letters instead (Such as the letter c having to be used in place of k and x, and the silent letter h not existing in footprint at all). For particular sounds in words this does mean that certain footprint runes have to be combined together (c and u to make q, for example). Furthermore, the Footprint writing system also features heavy use of contractions and does not use double letters; this results in a written language that is somewhat context heavy. The footprint rune system is heavily based on the English alphabet and grammar structure, but there are enough differences from Pokémon developing their own written system off of it that for a first time viewer it can seem unrecognizable.
