Extra Moments in Sailor Moon Cosmos (season 6)
With the idea of adding a sixth season to my classic Sailor Moon anime rewrite, I wanted to explain a couple of things that the 10 Sailor Guardians would do during the sixth season; having a musical concert in school and doing a school play dressed up as waitresses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, a musical concert involving all 10 Sailor Guardians would come into fruition. As for who’d play which instrument; Ami would play a flute, Rei would play a clarinet, Lita would play a trombone, Mina would play a french horn, Amara would (of course) play the piano and Michelle would (of course) play the violin, Trista would play a cello, Hotaru would play a viola and Rini would play a triangle. As for Serena, she’d be the one with the baton. Now Serena, Rini, Ami, Rei, Lisa, Mina, and maybe even Hotaru and Trista would under go a series of practice sessions in order to master their respective roles and musical instruments in the music concert, especially Serena as she’d be the one coordinating the music and tones with the baton.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly, the 10 Sailor Guardians would dress up as waitresses for a school play that takes place in a cafe. Mina especially would be excited as she’d look extra beautiful as a waitress.

Episode 7: Usagi Learns Her Lesson: Becoming a Star is Hard Work
Cries and cheers of her fans drifted through the large theatre. The stage lights burned her eyes as she sang her latest song until her diaphragm burned. The speakers blaring so loudly she could barely focus. Her costume itched everywhere. Her painted face ached from smiling so much, however, she knew she couldn’t stop. She couldn’t disappoint anyone.
“Thank you, Tokyo! You’ve been wonderful!” She said as the shouts got louder and stronger as she began to leave the stage all the while blowing kisses to the audience as she disappeared backstage. Another show was over.
She headed straight to her dressing room where she knew she would be safe from stares and blinding lights at least for a little while and wouldn’t have to wear a mask for a little while.
Inside her dressing room, she washed off the heavy makeup she wore for every show before removing her elaborate idol outfit and replacing it with a plain white robe before finally plopping down onto her makeup chair. Yawning, she caught sight of herself in the mirror and smiled.
“Shiratori-san,” called a male voice from outside which turned her gaze from her reflection to the door. “Are you decent?”
“Um...yes! Please come in!” she called out and soon enough the door was flung open and in walked her manager Hoga Yoshi, a man with a blazing bright smile that could charm anyone into doing what he want.
“Wonderful work tonight!” he said while throwing his arms in the air.
“Thank you, Hoga-sama,” she said back with a small smile.
“No, thank you!” Hoga-sama continued. “Thanks to tonight’s performance, the company just called me about having you do an international tour.”
“An international tour?” she asked, a little afraid. She just finished her nationwide tour and now they already wanted her to do another one so quickly?
“Just think about it, Malaysia, China, South Korea! Maybe even a few Western countries will all know the name, Shiratori Mikan!” Hoga-sama continued with a blaze of fire in his eyes. Pride? Greed? She didn’t know. Mikan just put on her mask and nodded Hoga-sama continued about ‘her’ future as her eyes drifted away to the still-open door. “With my help, Shiratori-san, you’ll be the most popular and well-known idol on the planet!” Before she could say anything, he was already out the door.
An international tour.
The thought made her loudly sigh. Mikan supposed she shouldn’t complain since this was the life she signed up for the moment she chose the life of a star over the life of an average sixteen-year-old and yet...didn’t she have a choice?
Mikan’s head fell into her hands as she began to take deep, heavy breaths.
After what felt like hours (but was only a few minutes), Mikan lifted her head and turned toward her reflection. She didn’t look happy.
She tried to smile.
It didn’t work.
Mikan sighed as tears started to pierce her eyes.
She couldn’t stop crying.
She looked sad in the mirror.
And then she didn’t.
Her reflection smirked.
She didn’t.
And before Mikan even knew what happened, everything just went black.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been a bad day in middle school for the fourteen-year-old secret superheroine, Tsukino Usagi. Today she woke up late and so she ended up being late for school and then she forgot her homework! Now all of this was very normal, but what wasn’t very normal was what came next. Now, the blonde knew that she wasn’t exactly the greatest student, and sure that might make Sakurada-sensei mad, but to make her clean the entire classroom?! Now that had to be some kind of cruel and unusual punishment somewhere!
As Usagi groaned over the unfairness of it all, a pair of fingers snapped directly in her face. “Usagi!” cried the voice attached to the fingers.
Usagi quickly came out of her trance to see Naru standing next to her. “You know if you keep dazing off like that, Sakurada-sensei might make you do this for the rest of the week,” Naru said as she turned to dust the shelves.
Usagi groaned at the thought of being so unjustly punished before saying “Don’t worry, Naru-chan!” with a bright smile before going to clean each and every desk with the gross chemicals they had to use. “And sorry you’re staying here with me,” the blond superheroine continued since she did feel really bad that instead of being home listening to music or playing video games, Naru was helping Usagi with her punishment.
“Hey! That’s what best friends are for right? Being miserable together when one of them is being punished,” Naru said with a joking smile which made Usagi laugh out loud. “However, for the rest of the week, you’re paying for all my milkshakes!”
“Hey! No fair,” Usagi said as she tossed a rag at Naru who simply laughed it off before trying to chase her blonde, blue-eyed best friend which filled the ultra-boring classroom into a den of fun and laughs. Sure, they really weren’t supposed to because you know punishments and all that, but the blonde and redhead couldn’t really find themselves caring! Especially the blonde since because of her ‘special secret’, she’s been having to deal with evil, energy-stealing monsters that feed on people’s desires and magic-talking cats insisting she trains more, little moments like this where she could just hang out with her best friend were getting really rare.
“Greetings, ladies,” came a familiar voice that caused the girls to stumble over a couple of desks and ended up smacking into each other causing them to fall and hit the tile floor. Furious, the two girls looked up and they both groaned. It was Umino! Did he have to come in now? They were having fun!
“What do you want, Umino?” Usagi said angrily as she and Naru picked themselves off the dusty floor.
“I just thought you girls would want to see this,” he said as he pulled out a rolled-up flier from a thin air and tossed it open revealing a picture of a beautiful brunette with field green eyes and a youthful face posing like a singer in front of a brightly lit, rainbow-colored stage and underneath were pink words that read, Make Your Dreams Come True! Join Famous Idol Group! Audition for the Cinderella Caravan Today! Hosted by Our Newest Shining Star Shiratori Mikan!
“Shiratori Mikan!” Naru cried out in joy as she grabbed the flier with stars in her eyes.
“Shiratori Mikan?” Usagi asked, thinking that name sounded way too familiar but she couldn’t remember why. Well, okay, she was obviously an idol so maybe she heard it from a store or a commercial or something, but something inside was telling her that wasn’t it.
“Are you seriously telling me you don’t know who Shiratori Mikan is?!” Naru cried out in disbelief and then shoved the poster in Usagi’s face. “She’s only the newest, upcoming idol in Japan!”
“And she also attended our school top of her class before being recruited when she was 16,” Umino said as he took back the poster from a suddenly irate Naru. “She’s absolutely the perfect woman! Beautiful, smart, and she seems so incredible on stage!”
“I didn’t know you were such a big fan, Umino,” Naru asked with a hand on her hip and an annoyed expression on her face.
“How could I not be?” Umino said in a daze as he squeezed the poster causing it to wrinkle before pulling it back to look at it. “Oh, what I wouldn’t give to have gone to this school when she was here,” he continued as both girls just rolled their eyes.
As Umino continued on and on and on about how amazing the pop sensation was and that he’d give, Usagi was thinking back about what was actually on the flier he showed them. Something about dreams coming true and auditions and stars.
Wait a minute.
Usagi’s eyes shot open.
Dreams come true?! Audition?! Star?!
Suddenly, Usagi was struck by a vision!
It was of her on a beautifully lit stage in an elaborate idol costume that kind of resembled her Sailor Moon fuku with hundreds, maybe even thousands, of fans shouting and cheering her name as she sings so beautifully it makes birds want to sing with her. Not only that but on stage, she was the most beautiful, most elegant dancer who never missed a beat of the music as she did elaborate spins and twists and turns that made the already happy crowd wild. As she would stay there showing off her moves to the audience who would absolutely adore her then a rain of rose petals would come in and then her true love, Tuxedo Mask would jump down and propose to her right then and there. She would of course say yes and then he would grab her along the waist and gently stroke her bright red cheeks as her idol dress transformed into a beautiful wedding dress and veil. Then, slowly, he would inch closer and closer to her as she puckered her lips to meet him and-
“USAGI-CHAN!” Tuxedo Mask screamed. No. Wait. That didn’t sound like her precious masked savior. That sounded like Naru-chan. Wait. NARU-CHAN!
Usagi’s eyes burst wide open to see that instead of embracing her handsome hero, she was instead seconds away from kissing her obviously flushed, obviously embarrassed best friend.
Usagi’s face was a similar crimson color as she quickly released Naru and fell over from the shock Naru hid her face behind her hands while Umino was just a frozen statue.
You know it’s moments like this that make you wish the Earth would just swallow you up.
Unfortunately, no such luck for Tsukino Usagi today.
“S-sorry Naru-chan,” Usagi said while do everything to avoid eye contact with her best friend so she didn’t have to address the big elephant in the room.
“D-Don’t worry about it,” Naru said, clearly wanting to avoid the subject as well.
Still, with a bright red face, Usagi stumbled to her feet and swiped the poster away from their nerdy friend, and stared at the beautiful idol, and then at her best friend. “We should try out Naru-chan!” Usagi said grabbing Naru’s shoulders and coming very close to her redheaded friend’s face.
Naru avoided Usagi’s eyes as she said, “Us?”
“Of course, us! Who would be better?!” Usagi cried out in joy with stars in her eyes. “Just imagine, you and me starting our own idol duo, going on tour, and becoming famous!”
“It does sound amazing,” Naru said, stars started to form in her own eyes. “Wait...we don’t know anything about being idols!”
“Well, that’s why they’ll teach us and besides it can’t hurt to just try out, right?” Usagi said as she showed the picture of Shiratori Mikan to Naru who gently took it from her friend who stared at, thinking. Come on, Naru-chan. PLEASE!PLEASE!PLEASE!PLEASE!PLEASE!
Naru looked up at her friend with a dreamy smile. “Alright! Let’s do it!” The two girls then proceeded to break glass with their squeals of joy alone as they danced around with glee.
“Wait a minute! What about Usagi’s punishment!?” Umino, who they kind of forgot was still in the room, said with his hands on his hips and clearly annoyed. “Sakurada-sensei might find out and when she does, Usagi will be in even bigger trouble and-” before he could get another word out, the two girls dogpiled him with cleaning supplies as they booked it out the door.
“Thanks, Umino!” Usagi called back as she and her redheaded best friend booked it out of the school before they could get caught.
“We’ll be back soon!” Naru yelled as well, knowing Umino must not be excited about having to clean the classroom all on his own.
Oh, well. They’ll make it up to him later when they become famous, world-renowned pop idols!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following the directions on the poster to a local idol trainee academy, the blonde and redhead were met by a huge crowd of girls around waiting to be let in for the auditions, all looking hopeful and happy.
Honestly, it looked so cheery and festive it made Usagi smile to see so many girls there wanting to make their dreams a reality. As Usagi surveyed the crowd of wide-eyed girls, she felt Naru’s hand grip tighten with her green eyes quickly looking around. That was weird. What was going on with Naru?
Before Usagi could get to the bottom of her friend’s strange behavior, a semi-familiar male voice began to speak over the speakers. “Welcome, ladies,” it said which caused the giggling, happily talking teenage girls to quiet down. “Today you have the unique pleasure of participating in the upcoming idol group The Cinderella Caravan led by the one and only Shiratori Mikan!” Loud applause and cheers sounded out from the crowd, including Usagi and Naru who were happily clapping along. “Speaking of Shiratori-chan, as an extra treat, all of you will be having the pleasure of meeting her!” This made the crowd go insane as people began to happily chant about how amazing and adorable she is and how they wanted to be just like her.
“Isn’t this amazing, Naru-chan?!” Usagi asked, well shouted over the crowd of screaming girls, to her best friend who was staring at the ground with a weird expression. It was like she wasn’t paying any attention to her. “Naru-chan?!” Usagi called again, this time to just get her to look at her.
Naru seemed to snap out of whatever daze she was in and looked up at Usagi who staring intently at her, trying to figure out why she wasn’t being herself. “Sorry, Usagi-chan!” Naru said pulling away her hand to scratch the back of her head. “Must’ve just gotten lost in thought there,” Naru continued before giving a small but barely reassuring smile.
Usagi, from the look on her face, was clearly not convinced. However, there was no time to dwell on this as the speakers went off again announcing, “Alright, Cinderellas, it’s time to make your dreams a reality!” This was barely announced as girls began to shove and push with huge smiles on their faces to be the first to make their ways into the academy. Unfortunately, this also came at the cost of knocking both Usagi and Naru onto the hard concrete beneath them.
Great! Now they were going to have bruises on their bums!
“Ow!” Usagi groaned as she rubbed her bruised bum. “What the heck!? I can’t believe they just threw us onto the ground! It’s not like the contest is going to grow legs and run off!” Usagi shouted but it was clear that her yells of righteous indignation were barely heard or cared about as the girls around them pushed and shoved to be one of the first inside. This made the blonde secret senshi burn with fury as she clenched her fist ranting about how rude the other girls were. If this was on TV she bet she would have steam coming out of her.
However, she heard a slight groan behind her. It sounded familiar. Was that?
Naru!
Quickly, Usagi spun around and saw her friend still on the ground dejected. “I’m so sorry, Naru-chan!” Usagi said as she stumbled over towards her friend. “Are you okay?!” she asked. “You didn’t hit your head or something?”
Her redheaded friend just shook her head before sighing sadly. “Maybe we should go, Usagi-chan,” Naru said in a small voice as she brought her knees up to her chin.
“What do you mean?” Usagi cried out. Didn’t she want to be famous too? “We came all this way and it’ll be fun! And then we’ll win and become famous and everyone will want us and want to know us and we’ll get any guy we want,” Usagi continued trying to inspire her friend who just stayed sad. “Okay, Naru-chan, you’re really freaking me out,” Usagi said, genuinely afraid. Naru had never, NEVER been like this before. Usually, she was the first to jump at activities and events like this like that one time when they were eleven and Usagi was absolutely terrified about riding the rollercoaster at Dreamland but Naru managed to convince her and it was the best ride she had ever been on! They actually made it a tradition that every year they’d ride it together. Yet now, Usagi couldn’t believe the Naru-chan who practically shoved her onto the coaster and the girl in front of her were the same people.
The girl in front of her looked so scared, so delicate, so not Naru.
“Come on, Naru-chan! What’s wrong?” Usagi asked, well-pleaded, as the sounds of footsteps faded away.
The blonde impatiently waited for her friend to tell her why she was acting so weird when she heard the tiniest little muttering of, “...go...”
“Wh-what?” Usagi asked. Go? Go where? Go inside? She’s trying. The blue-eyed girl looked back to see the green eyes of her best friend.
“I wanna go home,” Naru slowly said before looking down and Usagi literally thought the world was going to stop and light on fire around her.
Go home?
Go home!
Why would Naru want to go home?!
“Why would you want to go home?!” Usagi yelled in disbelief.
Naru looked away with a mix of sadness and fear. “We’re never going to win, Usagi-chan.”
“What are you talking about Naru-chan? Of course, we’ll win!”
Naru glared, yes actually glared, at Usagi which really frightened her. “There are tons of girls here, Usagi-chan! Some who are way prettier and older than us, so why would they ever pick two random fourteen-year-olds?” Naru said as she slowly looked down, tears starting to form in her eyes.
So, that was what Naru-chan was worried about. Usagi looked down sadly as she grabbed her handkerchief from her skirt pocket and slowly started to wipe away the tears in her friend’s eyes. “Just because there’s a lot of girls here,” Usagi began as she slowly eased her friend in for a hug, “doesn’t mean we won’t win and even if we don’t, we’ll still have a lot of fun.” Naru looked at Usagi before starting to stand up but instead of joining her to walk inside, Naru was starting to walk in the other direction! “Oh no, you don’t!” Usagi cried out as she grabbed her arm. “Weren’t you the one who always told me to take a chance even if it might be scary?”
Naru didn’t respond though. Or maybe she just didn’t want to admit Usagi was right. Usagi herself assumed the latter.
“You were!” Usagi said as she pointed one finger in the air before pointing it directly at Naru’s face. “And that is why there’s no way I’m going in there if you’re not there!”
“But...” Naru started before looking at the resolve in Usagi’s eyes before turning away for a moment and didn’t look back. Usagi started to feel worried that her words didn’t reach her. Usagi was honestly starting to worry she was going to have to drag her best friend kicking and screaming inside because there was no way was she going to go in there without her. For now, though, Usagi just stared intently hoping that intimidation will force Naru to come in with her. Um...could that be seen as wrong? Who cares. This is for the greater good! “...I’m still not sure about this, Usagi-chan, but I guess it can’t hurt to try.” Naru then smiled, a bit shakily if Usagi was being honest, but still smiling!
For her turn, Usagi shot back a massive smile as she put her elbow around Naru’s and then started to march them towards the double doors of the academy as the blonde loudly declared, “Just you wait, Naru-chan, we’ll have Mikan-san begging for us to join her group in no time!” This made both girls give each other good-hearted before running into the academy as the doors shut behind them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Herded along with the many, many other girls, Usagi and Naru found themselves push and pulled and shoved towards the center of what seemed like a big dome with giant stage lights hanging from the white ceiling that pointed towards a stage that kind of looked like the runways they have in those shows about models Usagi and her mom always watch on the weekends. The stage itself seemed to be made of some kind of glass or plastic surrounded by walls covered in tiny blue curtains.
For her part, Usagi was imagining what it would be like to be up on that stage. It must be amazing! Having people cheer for you, want your autograph, want to be friends with you, people wanting to be you, and have every eye on you!
She was broken from her little daydream when she felt a tiny squeeze in her hand. Usagi looked over to see Naru still had a worried look on her face. The blonde guessed that Naru must still be feeling scared.
Usagi, wanting to help, gave a warm smile to her best friend and gave back a tiny, reassuring squeeze of her own. Looking at Naru’s face, she looked a bit happier which made Usagi a bit happier too. They are best friends after all!
Suddenly, the lights dimmed. Every conversation, every word was silenced. Every girl, including Usagi and Naru, turned their full attention to the stage.
She emerged like a goddess from the ceiling on a decorated swing, a beautiful teenager mocha-brown hair done up in a fancy ponytail with a big, bright blue bow holding it together with her pale skin glistening under the bright yellow stage lights and her emerald eyes glinting with the joy of being the object of everyone’s attention. On her body, she wore a beautiful light purple dress with a wide skirt decorated with blue crystals along the frilly hem. Her pink-colored lips were done up in a wide smile with the beginning of a beautiful song.
Slowly, she descended onto the stage without missing a beat or a note. She walked towards the end of the stage where she reached out to the girls who began to scream in joy as they clearly wanted to get closer.
Usagi and Naru weren’t any different. They were both completely entranced by the beautiful woman. They watched as she danced towards the back of the stage where she began dancing with three other girls as the music picked up and the lights were changing to every color of the rainbow.
Everything was incredible.
The dancing, the singing, the music.
The idols looked so majestic.
Mikan looked divine.
Everything was intoxicating.
At the climax of the song, Mikan shot her arm into the sky before everything went dark.
No music, no light. No dancing, no idols. No talking, no moving. Just darkness.
No one turned from the stage though. No one wanted to.
No one even seemed to want to breathe in that moment.
It was like they were in a trance.
Slowly, slowly the room lights turned on. And there was Shiratori Mikan now dressed in a puffy orange dress with a green sash and matching green bow in her now loose brown hair with that same smile on her face as she now gazed upon the audience below her. For its part, the audience couldn’t help but stare in awe and relief to see her again.
“Welcome ladies to the Cinderella Caravan, where one of you will have the once-in-a-lifetime become a real-life Cinderella and join my idol group where fame and riches beyond your wildest dreams await,” she said in the sweetest voice as she gracefully walked towards the end of the stage. “And of course, I know each one of you is a beautiful and special young woman like her,” Shiratori-sama said as she pointed at someone in the front row. All the audience members turned to the girl at the end of her pointed finger. The girl in question turned out to be a short, stocky twelve-year-old with long hair tied up in pigtails and covered in freckles. “She has such a unique appearance and the fact she’s so young and still trying to dream big!” she continued as she patted the girl on the head. Strangely though, the girl didn’t look happy about it. She was shifting around with bright blush and a big frown as she played with her uniform skirt. Weird. Shouldn’t she be happy? She was the lucky girl that got picked by Shiratori-sama herself to be called an inspiration. The blonde heard whispers in the background. “Now onto our first challenge. Idols can’t just be beautiful, they need to have exceptional endurance. Idols can be on stage for ours and have shows that last for weeks where they not only have to sing and dance. but remain smiling and perfect looking for their thousands of adoring fans to test this we’ll be entering into the personal gym we have here in the academy,” she said as light poured into the room. “Unfortunately, though I want to take all of you, we only have enough room for one hundred of you, so it’s going to be a first come, first serve scenario to anyone who can get to the entrance so...Go!” Shiratori-sama declared with a wide smile before every girl began to shove and push. It was almost like every girl had been taken out of one spell and put into another as they all fought to be one of the lucky hundred.
Usagi and Naru found themselves being shoved and thrown and tossed around in this craziness until they were forced onto their hands and knees with just a hopeless prayer that they might be able to get to the door before everyone else and trying to avoid getting their fingers smashed by the many teenaged girls’ sneakers and heels.
It didn’t work though when Usagi heard Naru give a loud cry which caused her to turn her head to check on her friend who was shaking her hand as if her very life depended on it. “Are you okay, Naru?!” Usagi yelled out in order to be heard over the crowd of girls that surrounded them before crawling over to her friend. As she did so though, she felt something tumble over her which caused her attention to be to the side of her where she saw a semi-dazed girl with pigtails being knocked into another girl with long hair who was winding up to punch someone, causing them all to fall and then to fall into other people. Those people then fall onto other people. And then those people fell onto other people and so on and so on until the was a giant pile of collapsed and deeply confused girls except for the girl who started this and her friend.
Usagi did feel pretty guilty but at least she was able to stand now. Quickly she got to her feet and dove towards Naru who was now staring at the room of collapsed females. “Is your hand okay?” Usagi asked as she sat next to her and Naru simply nodded still in shock over what just happened. “Good!” Usagi cried out before looking over at the unblocked door and a wide, huge smile rose to her face. “Come on!” Usagi yelled as she grabbed Naru up by her other hand and together they made a mad dash for the door though they were careful to not step on the fingers or toes of the girls below them as people were starting to become more aware. Slowly and then quickly, many of the other girls began to rise and chase after Usagi and Naru.
However, they were too late!
Usagi and Naru were already through the door where a man was waiting for them dressed like one of those fancy security suits who proceeded to direct them and the 98 other girls that came piling in after them to another room.
Usagi and Naru squealed in delight!
They were one step closer to their goal!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usagi and Naru found themselves in a large gym with what looked like a wooden dance floor covered with one hundred really fancy exercise bikes. Wait, why were those there? Oh. Yeah. Shiratori-sama said this was supposed to be an endurance challenge or something. A challenge of endurance. Fancy exercise bikes. Oh, wait…Oh no. Looking at the really fancy exercise bikes, the two teens stared in horror at what they were about to be subjected to since neither of them was particularly good when it came to athletics. Okay, sure Usagi was secretly Sailor Moon but that still didn’t mean she was that capable when it came to this kind of stuff! And poor Naru doesn’t even have that to fall on! Ugh! Why couldn’t this challenge have been how long could someone play Sailor V!?
Usagi looked over at Naru with worry when suddenly a door to their right swung open. Two people entered the room first it was a bored-looking guy with blonde hair, green eyes, and a red suit. He didn’t seem like a security guard so maybe he was the idol’s manager but for some weird reason, he looked very familiar to Usagi. Maybe she’d seen him on TV or something.
However, he wasn’t important because in walked Shiratori Mikan. She was wearing a huge confident smile and instead of her beautiful idol outfit, was pair of black and blue sweats with a matching short shirt and her chocolate hair was pulled out of her face in an elaborate twist that made her look like the model on one of those workout magazines her mom brings home. Needless to say, every eye was glued to her form as she walked through the crowd of girls who parted as though it was expected of them in the say way you bow for a great queen. Shiratori-sama proceeded to the middle of the room without a care in the world before she stopped in the center where she could be at the forefront of everyone in the room’s attention if she wasn’t already.
“Welcome, ladies! I’m so excited to have so many fresh and lovely faces for our first challenge!” she announced. Wow. Even without a microphone, she was still able to make her lovely voice sing to everyone. “Now that we only have you lucky one hundred, we’ll begin our first challenge of endurance. As you might’ve guessed already, we will be testing your endurance with these incredible exercise bikes. I know this might be difficult for,” she continued as her eyes gazed over the crowd before landing on a particularly plump girl, “some of you. But never fear, myself and my wonderful manager will be watching to ensure that we have a fair and equal challenge for all of you so we can see which 50 girls have the greatest ability to preserve their stamina. Now if you would all like to grab a bike and we can begin,” Mikan said as she walked out of the way, every girl made their way towards a bike.
Usagi hopped onto a bright blue bike before with excitement on her face before she looked over at Naru who had taken the green bike next to her, “Isn’t this exciting, Na-”. Usagi was unable to finish her sentence as she was suddenly now pedaling and very clumsily at that. She didn’t do that!
Shiratori-sama began to speak again. “Now that everyone has a bike, we’re going to begin. With these state-of-the-art exercise bikes we can control the speed with just one remote,” she continued as she brought out a black remote controller with a bunch of strange buttons and a great big dial. “Right now, it’s only on its lowest setting but if I just crank up this nifty little dial,” Shiratori-sama continued as she slowly turned the dial up which caused the blonde to nearly be knocked off her bike out of shock before barely being able to get her footing back. “Isn’t technology just amazing?” Shiratori-sama sang in her sing-song voice before saying. “My manager and I will be watching from the corner and seeing how all of you do and to see which of you get out first, so please do your best and keep your breaths steady!”
The group of girls watched as Shiratori-sama made their way toward her manager who was standing in the corner before turning to face forward.
Usagi was trying her best to keep up with their bikes' speed and pumping her legs as fast as they could go which wasn’t a lot on a good day. However, they were already starting to feel shaky and achy already! She could already feel those pins and needles shoot up like she had been sitting on her legs for like a week. And for some weird reason, she was already feeling super tired! How many dials was she up to? 2! WAH!
Usagi was on the brink of crying when she looked over at Naru who also looked like she was ready to throw in the towel! Usagi was sad for the both of them but before she could tell Naru about their shared pain, she heard something from her left. It sounded like a whisper or something though against the sound of the exercise bikes, she could’ve been wrong.
Still, she was interested and turned to her left. The whisper seemed to come from the girl next to her to someone on her left. Usagi craned her neck to see it was the plump girl Shiratori-sama addressed earlier.
Usagi try to lean in to listen to their whispers but she could barely hear them when the girl’s orange eyes landed on Usagi who sneered in her direction before saying in a cold voice, “Mind your own business.”
“Well, excuse me!” Usagi said putting her hand on her hip. How dare they be so rude to her!? She was ready to go all Sailor Moon on their butts when she noticed the look on the plump girl’s face. She looked really super sad but why? Was it something those girls said? Unfortunately, Usagi didn’t get a chance to say or ask anything as the plump girl stood up from her bike and left with a sad expression on her face. “Hey, wa-” Usagi began when she heard the mean girls whisper again.
“What a loser,” the girl next to her said to a girl ahead of her.
“What was a girl like her doing here anyway?” the girl ahead of her said back. A friend of hers? “Shouldn’t she be shoveling down her eighteenth doughnut or something?!” Hey! There’s nothing wrong with having a lot of doughnuts! And who were they to kick that girl out? This injustice will not stand!
“You shouldn’t be mean to people,” Usagi said, no longer caring about the pain in her legs or the sweat on her face, or how tired she was feeling. All she cared about was stopping these people.
The girl next to her and the girl ahead of her turned to Usagi who put on her best glare though it probably looked more like a pouty kitten. “And who or what are you?”
“I’m Tsukino Usagi and you should go apologies to that girl!” Usagi demanded.
Her demands were met by cruel laughter. “What are you 5!?” said the girl ahead of the other girl.
“Aw, sweetie. The fact is she was never going to win anyway, even Shiratori-chan knew that, so maybe we were actually being quite nice saving her the embarrassment of trying and failing,” the girl next to her said with a chuckle. Usagi’s face was not blaring red from the sheer rudeness of these girls and the injustice of the situation. “Besides what can you do about it?”
“I bet she’s going to try and tell on us,” the girl next to her’s friend said.
Tell on them? That was a great idea! They cheated so they should be kicked out! Surely, Shiratori-sama would see how wrong it was for them to cheat.
Usagi stood up on her bike with her, still pedaling somehow, and waving her hand in the air. “HEY! HEY! I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY!” she cried out, causing everyone’s attention to be on her. Even Naru and the two other girls were shocked by the fact Usagi was willing to risk it all for some girl she never knew. “PLEASE, SHIRATORI-SAMA! I HAVE SOMETHING TO REPORT!”
Usagi saw Shiratori-sama look over at her and she thought she saw a look of annoyance on her face that made her cheeks grow red from a different feeling, embarrassment. Thankfully, it looked like she imagined it! Shiratori-sama was now walking over to the blonde with a wide smile on her face and she felt honored to have the idol’s full attention on her. “Is everything alright?” Shiratori began as she walked right up to the blonde.
The blonde teenager was starstruck. She was so pretty! The words died in her throat. Why did she call her over here? Why did the blond bother her in the first place? Shouldn’t she stop?
She heard snickering behind her. She ripped her eyes away from Shiratori-sama and at the two mean girls as the memory of what they did hit her like a sack of bricks. “Shiratori-sama, these two girls were mean to another contestant and I don’t find that very fair!”
“It’s true, Shiratori-sama,” the redhead said, backing up her blonde friend. “I saw the whole thing.”
“I see,” Shiratori-sama said before shrugging. “Well, people are sometimes going to be mean to idols, so if the girl couldn’t handle some light jokes, then maybe she shouldn’t be in show business at all. Honestly, my dear, you should just focus on yourself and not concern yourself with those around you. I mean look at your figure.”
The blond looked down at her body. What did Shiratori-sama mean by her figure? She thought she looked fine. D-didn’t she? “What do you mean?” the blonde asked.
“I mean, look at your thighs and your hips. Tell me do you eat a lot of sweets?” Shiratori-sama asked with a bit of concern on her face.
“Well, I-I guess sometimes…” the blonde said, remembering all the sweets and desserts she loves. Chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate milkshakes, strawberry shortcakes, and her mom’s famous lemon pies! Sure she wasn’t eating them as often due to the whole incident with that evil bakery but she wasn’t really pulling away from them either.
“Oh, you poor girl!” Shiratori-sama said, startled. “Don’t you know how bad those are for you? They go right to your hips and then in a couple of years or so you’ll be practically bursting! You’d definitely never survive in this business if you keep eating that stuff,” Shiratori-sama said. The words raced around the blonde’s mind. Practically bursting? Her hips? Did she really look that bad?
The blonde looked at herself in one of the adjacent mirrors as she heard laughter and chuckles from some of the other girls, especially the ones she was trying to get in trouble.
She felt something on her head. It was Shiratori-sama’s perfectly manicured hand patting the blonde on the head. “But don’t worry dear. I can help,” she said before she pressed a button and then used the dial to push only the blonde’s bike to maximum speed which forced the blonde into an upright position as she desperately tried to keep up with the bike. Unfortunately, she was now aching everywhere and her mind was rushing as her body was now crying out with pain as her tiredness returned this time worst than ever. She felt her lungs pulse and shake, the sweat turn from a lake to rive under her clothes and on her forehead. Soon enough she could barely feel her legs as her whole body was crying out for its stops.
It stopped. It went back to the second dial causing the blonde to fall onto the seat as Shiratori-sama gave her a smile before clapping her hands, “Well done! There might be hope for you yet!” With that said, Shiratori-sama returned to her spot next to her manager and everything happened as before except people around them were snickering and Usagi now overthinking about her weight.
Did she really look that bad that just anyone could see? Usagi looked around at the other girls. Did they see it too? Usagi grabbed onto her thigh. It didn’t seem too bad but what did she know? Shiratori-sama was this big-time pop star so she must know! Right?
“-chan! USAGI-CHAN!” she heard. Usagi snapped out of her thoughts and looked over the owner of the voice. It was Naru who was now glaring at Shiratori-sama. “Are you okay?” she turned to Usagi with a concerned look.
Usagi put on her typical Usagi smile before saying, “Yeah. I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?” Naru asked again. “You looked sad there.”
“No, I’m fine. She’s probably right though. I should probably cut back on the sweets,” Usagi said. Naru didn’t look convinced. “No! Really, she’s right! If I want to be in this business, I just need to adjust to it. Shouldn’t be too hard!” Naru didn’t look convinced but sighed in defeat.
Soon after this, more and more girls started to get out until only half of the girls who came in were left including Usagi and Naru and those two mean girls.
“Well done, ladies!” Shiratori-sama said as she was clapping. “Now that we have a much more manageable number of girls, we’re going to pick up tomorrow’s challenge at 12 o’clock sharp where we will figure out the finalists so I want everyone to head home and get a good night’s sleep!”
With that everyone left and started to head their separate ways. Strangely, though they all looked much paler than when they came in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usagi poked at the meat of her nikujaga with the words and laughter of the girls from the endurance challenge ringing in her ears. Thanks to Naru, she was able to make it home just as her mother had finished making dinner and quickly made her a plate upon seeing her face. Unfortunately, Usagi wasn’t very hungry or at least she shouldn’t be. Future pop stars watch their weight she guessed. The blonde teenager stared at her barely touched but delicious-looking and smelling meal. It really did look delicious. Usagi sighed before looking over at the finished dishes of her brother and father who were happily chatting away about something that she didn’t really understand before turning her attention to Luna who was happily devouring her meal of tuna and water.
Usagi growled a bit before she went back to stare at her meal. She should probably eat a little more or else her parents would get suspicious. It was already pretty suspicious that she hadn’t already devoured her meal like she usually did. As Usagi took a small bit of her delicious meal, another smell floated into her nostrils.
It was so sweet! So sugary! So lemony! Oh NO!
“Did you make your famous lemon pie, sweetheart?” her papa asked as Usagi turned her head to the doorway that lead from the kitchen to the dining room to see her mother holding her famous lemon pie! How could she?! AND IT LOOKED SO GOOD!
“I thought it would be a wonderful surprise to celebrate your promotion,” her mama asked as she set the pie down in the middle of the table where the look and smell assaulted poor, innocent Usagi who was desperately trying to resist.
“Well, thank you,” Kenji said as he kissed his wife on the cheek as she took her seat across from Usagi who was in agony. It was so beautiful and so tempting. It was like it was calling for her to take a bite out of it! To let its deliciousness run down her throat and savor it! She knew she couldn’t though. As Shiratori-sama said, that stuff goes right to her thighs, and if she wants to be a star she needs to make sacrifices. Right? Isn’t that right?
But it did look so good!
“Usagi?” her mother’s voice said. Oh no! “Are you alright? You’ve barely touched your food,” her mama said, giving a worried look at Usagi’s mostly full plate. Oh no! They caught on! Think of something quick!
“Oh, I wasn’t that hungry,” Usagi said meekly. At her words, the world stopped turning. A pin could be dropped. The faces of her family were struck by shock. Even Luna looked up from her meal to stare at Usagi. “W-what? I’m just not hungry,” Usagi said as she turned away from her food.
“So Usagi-baka learned to stop stuffing her face?” Shingo asked as he grabbed a piece of the pie.
“Shingo!” their mother scolded. “Are you sure you aren’t hungry, Usagi-chan?”
“Yeah, I’m just not that hungry. I realized that I do eat a lot so I thought I should cut back a little,” Usagi said with a shrug.
“And how did you come to this realization?” her mother asked as she gave that all-knowing mom look.
“It’s not because of a boy, is it?!” Kenji quickly cried as he jumped up with a look of pure horror on his face.
“N-no. I’m actually competing in a contest,” Usagi said in an excited voice.
Kenji and Ikuko looked at each other with confused looks before back to Usagi. Suddenly, Usagi really wished it was just because of a boy. That would be way easier to explain at least. “What kind of contest?” they asked at the same time.
“There’s this pop idol named Shiratori Mikan and she’s holding this contest called the Cinderella Caravan and the winner gets to be a part of her pop group! Isn’t it exciting?!”’ Usagi cried out with joy. Usagi looked at her parents’ faces and they didn’t look happy at all.
“Why do you want to be an idol? You’d probably just end up tripping over your big feet,” Shingo said with a roll of his eyes as he took a large bite of his lemon pie.
“HEY!” Usagi cried angrily. How dare Shingo say that? She won’t end up tripping.
“Shingo that’s very rude to say to your sister,” Ikuko scolded her son before turning to her daughter. “He does have a point, however, do you really this contest is a good idea? You’re not doing very well and school and being an idol is a lot of work.”
“And there’s a lot of weirdos out there! Weirdos who would want to hurt you!” Kenji yelled out, his expression having a really concerned look.
“I know that but it could be fun!” Usagi continued. Why weren’t her parents happy for her? Shingo was one thing but her mama and papa? Shouldn’t they be happy for her? “Besides, Naru-chan is doing it too!”
“We just don’t think it's a good idea, Usagi,” Ikuko said.
“But mama!” Usagi whined. This was SO not fair!
“I’m just being honest,” Ikuko continued. “I’m not going to stop you but I won’t say I’m not worried. You’re not eating because of this contest.”
“I’m just not hungry!” Usagi cried out. She was so angry! “You all just want to destroy my dreams!” Usagi stood up, tears now flowing from her eyes before she ran away from the dinner table. Her legs didn’t stop moving until she was in her own room before throwing herself onto her bed and angrily crying into her pillow.
They were so mean! They should be happy! She got the chance to become rich and famous! She got the chance to be known by the whole world! Shouldn’t they be happy for her? And then stupid Shingo! She wasn’t stupid! She could be graceful if she wanted to be! It was so mean! They were so mean!
As Usagi was thinking over the meanness of everything, she barely heard the door to her room crack open and the shuffling of paws against the floor. “Are you alright, Usagi-chan?” Luna asked as Usagi finally realized she was there.
“Does it look like it?” Usagi bitterly whined. “They’re so mean!”
She felt Luna’s cat eyes peer at her before she heard a loud sigh, “You know Usagi-chan, your parents do have a point though. You already fail a lot in school and you're a Senshi. You have a duty to your princess to find her and the Silver Crystal. Do you really need to add something else to your plate?”
Usagi became so furious at this. Even Luna! Why?! So what if she didn’t have dinner or dessert? So what if she already has a lot to do?! She could do it! Besides! It's none of their business! This was something she wants! Why can’t they just be happy for her? “Well, if you agree with them, why don’t you go sleep with them tonight and leave me alone!” Usagi cried out.
“Usagi?” Luna tried. Usagi didn’t care.
“Go away!” Usagi cried out again before flopping onto her side. She didn’t want to deal with Luna anymore for the rest of the night. She was mean just like her mama and papa!
Usagi heard a sigh and then the whoosh of a jump followed by paw steps that soon faded. Usagi looked over to see that Luna had indeed left. Well…Good!
Usagi went back to her tears with only the thought to show them all she could do it!
Eventually, the blonde passed out, stomach empty and her head spinning from anger.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standing next to Naru, Usagi was once more in the now-empty gym. Speaking of empty, Usagi was desperately trying to ignore her own empty stomach. Her stomach wasn’t making it easy though! It was growling and angry! It ached and hurt! But it wasn’t her fault! She had to sneak out this morning! Her parents and stupid Shingo and stupid Luna were going to judge her as they did at dinner last night! And she couldn’t have breakfast! Everyone knew she wasn’t a good cook! Besides, she wasn’t hungry then!
“Are you okay, Usagi-chan?” Usagi heard Naru ask. Oh no! Did Naru see her suffering?
Usagi looked over with a big smile in order to reassure Naru when the door was thrown open and in entered her.
Shiratori Mikan entered, her wide smile on her face and grace in her step as she took her place at the center of everyone’s attention. She was wearing a bright-blue, crystal-patterned leotard with light-purple tights and her silky chocolate locks tucked up into a bun and decorated with a violet headband. “Good morning, ladies!” she said in a jovial voice as she looked over the group of 50. “It’s so wonderful to see everyone so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed since today we’re going to be practicing dancing because when an idol’s on stage, they have to be able to move to the beat while enchanting her audience with her voice. However, dancing isn’t just running around all wily nily, it’s being able to exude the grace and elegance your fandom expects of you so for this exercise, I will be personally teaching you a dance so all you have to do is follow around and try to get it perfect. And to be certain you do,” the whoosh of the doors opening was vaguely heard by the gathering girls and the footsteps following, “my wonderful manager will be supplying you with one of these state-of-the-art pins.” Shiratori-sama said holding up a small pin designed with a 3D glass slipper. “Aren’t they amazing? With this little pin, we’re able to track your movements and record the ones who won’t be joining us in the next round which if all goes to plan will be later today,” Shiratori-sama then watched in eager anticipation as the blonde manager started to spread the pins out to each girl until everyone had one including the blonde and the redhead. “Now that we’re all ready,” Shiratori-sama said. “We’re going to start with a ladylike twirl on one foot like so,” Shiratori-sama said as she rose onto the very tips of her toes and gracefully twirled in a complete circle before stopping elegantly with a bow. “Your turn.”
The girls slowly rose to the tops of their own toes to try and copy the twirl Shiratori-sama. Some were successful, some were not. In the former category was a certain redheaded friend who actually managed to make a full 360 turn before smoothly stopping.
In the latter category was Usagi. Between her empty belly and usual lack of grace and elegance and ability to stop smoothly, her turning was a disaster. She had barely managed to rise to her toes before she was about to trip on them and then when she tried to do the twirl itself, she ended up looking more like a spinning top of destruction especially when she ended up crashing into some other girls. Oh gosh! The look in their eyes was so mean as all Usagi could do was sputter out apology after apology. It was so embarrassing!
“What the heck is she doing here anyway?” Usagi overheard one of the girls say to the other. Usagi recognized her as the girl from yesterday, the one who made fun of the girl from before.
“Isn’t she that weirdo from yesterday?” the girl from yesterday snickered as though they thought Usagi couldn’t hear. Or maybe they just didn’t care if she did. “You know the one who defended the doughnut girl?”
Usagi stared at them. Why were they being so mean to her? She didn’t do anything to them.
However, the blonde didn’t have long to wonder about this since Shiratori-sama voice rang out through the gym. “Wonderful job to most of you,” she said with a beautiful smile toward the crowd of girls. “For our next move we’re going to use our arms and move them to the beat so try to follow along,” Shiratori-sama said as she stared at the girls she brought her arms in close before popping them out and doing some sort of swirl motion to them as one of her upbeat songs played in the background. It looked kind of complicated.
And it was.
Usagi ended up looking like an out-of-control monkey who slipped on a banana peel. She felt ridiculous!
She looked around again to see Naru-chan was doing just fine. Usagi stared in shock. How is Naru-chan doing so well?
However, the dance wasn’t done yet! And despite her hopes, Usagi didn’t get better. No. Somehow she became worse and even accidentally smacked her best friend in the face. This quickly made Usagi panic as she turned to Naru who luckily didn’t seem hurt but she was rubbing her nose. Usagi quickly blurted out sorry after sorry to her friend.
“It’s f-” Naru-chan began.
Laughter ran out behind them. It was those girls again and they were laughing at Usagi who blushed in embarrassment and anger.
“Watch out she might smack you too,” the girl from yesterday told her friend.
“You would think Shiratori-sama would throw her out for being so useless,” the other girl said.
Usagi’s hand turned into a fist. What was with these girls!? Someone should teach them a lesson!
The blonde felt a hand on her fist. She turned to see it was Naru-chan who quietly said, “Just ignore them, Usagi-chan. They’re annoying.”
Naru-chan was right. They were annoying which Usagi hated to admit, even to herself, since she liked to see the good in everyone and everything but she guessed they weren’t actually doing anything. The blonde sighed and turned away from them though she was still mad at them.
The lesson dragged on and with every new dance move and every new song, it seemed like Usagi just got worse and worse. She was tripping over herself falling over her own two feet, missing the beats she was supposed to hit, and stepping on the other girls' toes or falling on top of them which led to a long string of apologies spilling from Usagi’s mouth. She was basically a walking, talking tornado in tights.
And during all this, during her feeble attempts to match the movements of the other girls and sad tries of not being last, she could hear the other girls’ cruel laughter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just those girls anymore. It was lots of girls now, staring and laughing at her. Usagi felt so small. Usagi felt so sad. Usagi felt so embarrassed. Most of all, Usagi felt so…angry.
This emotion wasn’t one that was unfamiliar to her. In contrast to how she normally was, she knew what it was like to be angry. To have that weird bubbly sensation in your stomach and your face getting all red before you want to scream or break something. She’s had that feeling before when she was dealing with the monsters who kept attacking the city and hurting innocent people or when Shingo kept breaking into her room to steal her favorite Mysterious 2098 Face manga in order to make fun of her with her friends or whenever she has to deal with being in trouble with her parents or at school. However, this kind of anger was different.
She did have that weird bubbly sensation and the red face but not the yelling or screaming part of being angry. No. Her face felt surprisingly stoic as Usagi simply glared at the girls before she who continued their hyena laughs at her expense. However, she may not want to scream but she wanted to do…to do something to them.
With anger rising in her chest and her head getting all fuzzy, Usagi noticed one of the girls laughing so hard that she was actually walking backward toward the fourteen-year-old and her friend. A devious plan came to Usagi at that quick moment.
She slipped out one of her feet.
Only a tiny bit. Not a lot but just enough.
The mean girl barely grazed Usagi’s outstretched foot before she tripped and crashed right into Usagi who smacked her face right into the mirror. That hurt! Luckily, no blood or broken noses but still! OW!
She felt a hand on her shoulder but also heard screaming, “You!” it was the girl she tripped, pointing right at Usagi. “You tripped me!”
The blonde felt herself gulp and all the anger she had faded away being replaced with fear and guilt. “I-I,” Usagi said, trying to get something out but the words got stuck in her throat. Worst of all, every eye turned to watch what was going on.
“I knew it’s always the stupid ones!” the girl screamed as she pushed Usagi straight into her redheaded friend’s arms. “Trying to mess me up, huh!?” the girl demanded as she tried to get closer which made Naru back away.
“I-I,” Usagi sputtered out.
“What is going on over here?” a musical voice rang out. Everyone looked up and all the yelling and screaming was silenced. It was Shiratori-sama with a small frown on her face. “I hope no one’s hurt.”
“She tried to trip me, Shiratori-sama,” a girl said, pointing a long finger at the blonde.
“I-I,” was all the blonde managed out.
“I’m sure it was an accident,” a redhead tried to say.
“You’re her friend so what do you know?!” a girl screamed at the redhead.
“Well, well, this is quite the scene,” Shiratori-sama said before turning to the blonde. “Did you trip her?”
“I-I,” the blonde tried to speak. “Y-yes.” Seems like she can talk after all.
“See! She’s a snake, Shiratori-sama!” the girl said.
“Usagi!” the redhead cried out.
“Well, that settles it then,” Shiratori-sama said before turning to the blonde. “You’re eliminated.”
“Wh-what?” the blonde asked.
“Well, obviously, I can’t let you continue. Someone so bratty and selfish can’t possibly make a good idol,” Shiratori-sama said, never letting her smile fall. “Besides, it’s not like you were ever going to get past this round. You dance like an overweight clown with two left feet.”
The blonde’s eyes started to get wet before nodding.
“C-come on,” she said to the redhead next to her. “Let’s go.” She grabbed the redhead’s hand.
“Oh no. Fortunately, your friend’s actually moving on to the next round,” Shiratori-sama said. “Isn’t that wonderful that at least one of you has talent and doesn’t need to resort to cheap tricks?”
“Really?” the redhead said, shocked pulled away her hand from her friend. She had a sparkle in her eye. Perfect. However, the blonde stared at the redhead in disbelief.
“You’re coming right?” the blonde asked. The redhead stood there. “You’re coming right?” the blonde asked again, sounding desperate. How pathetic. The blonde stared in shock and sadness and then anger before she kicked up her heels and raced out of the gym. All alone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tears poured from Usagi as she simply ran through the streets of Azabujuban, uncaring about who she bumped into or where she was going. She was just so tired, hungry, sad, betrayed, and angry! She just didn’t care anymore!
How could Naru betray her like that?! To stay behind after everything that happened! They were supposed to be best friends, weren’t they!? Usagi knew she did wrong. Usagi knew she shouldn’t have tripped that girl but still! Aren’t best friends supposed to always be on each other’s side!?
Usagi found herself in an alley and just fell to her knees and cried there. Everything was just so unfair! This whole thing had been a mistake! Why?! Why Naru!? Why!?
The tears were just falling uncontrollably now.
“Odango Atama?” a voice. A male voice. A familiar male voice said. Usagi looked up before her face went from sadness to anger. It was HIM! The guy with silver-rimmed glasses and ugly pea soup-colored jacket and eggplant purple plants. Great! As if this day couldn’t get any worse, Usagi just had to bump into the last person she wanted to see! Maybe if she pretends, she’s invisible he would go away. “You know I can see you, Odango Atama.” Well, that didn’t work! “Where have you been? I was starting to wonder why I haven’t been attacked for the last couple of days. Get in trouble or something?” Maybe he’ll get bored and go away if Usagi continues to ignore him. “Odango Atama?” he asked. “Wait…a minute, d-did you join that Cinderella Caravan? Well, I guess maybe you could do a comedy routine or something?”
How did he-Oh right. Her pin. However, Usagi was not in the mood and she looked up at him and screamed. “WILL YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!? I’M NOT IN THE MOOD!”
She saw his expression of joyful mocking turned into shock before…compassion? No. Not from him. He was a jerk…right?
“Wait…you were actually sad?” Usagi heard him quietly mutter. What did that mean? Oh. Who cares at this point!? She hid her face in her knees again.  At this moment, she didn’t care what he thought of her. She was just too sad! She did hear shifting though and the wrinkling sound of paper. She looked up and saw the jerk was now sitting next to her with only a small paper bag of something between them. “So, you’re sad,” he stated, sucking her in with those intense sapphire-blue eyes of his. “Why?”
Usagi quickly looked away from him. “Why should I tell you? You’re a jerk, remember?”
“Because I’m here,” he answered. “Besides, it’s no fun messing with someone who's too sad to argue back.”
Usagi glared at this last statement before wondering if she should just tell him. He probably wouldn’t care one way or another and hopefully wouldn’t judge her for her actions. Besides, maybe talking about it would help. “Well, yes I was in the Cinderella Caravan but I got eliminated just because I may have, sort of, kind of tripped this other girl,” Usagi said the last part in a mutter before seeing the unfazed look in his eyes. Somehow that actually made her angrier. “Don’t give me that look. She was mean! She and her friends treated me and this other girl horribly so I just wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine, okay!?” He still didn’t change his expression but just stared at Usagi who quickly blushed before looking away. “Fine. It was wrong. But then when I was about to leave I wanted to leave with my friend but she stayed! How stupid is that?! I’m her best friend! I’m the reason she was even there and she just abandons me like that!”
“Was she eliminated?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Usagi shook her head. “But still! We’ve been best friends since we were kids and just let me leave!” Usagi cried as she slowly wiped away her tears as the memory of Naru just standing there while she ran out in tears played over and over again in her head. “And even after Shiratori-sam said I had no talent and that I had fat thighs and she said I’d never make it as a pop idol!”
“Here,” she heard. She looked up at him who was now holding out a napkin. Usagi reluctantly took and wiped her tears and nose. “Look, Odango Atama, the whole thing sounds pretty stupid.”
Usagi paused wiping her face. Stupid? Stupid?! What did he mean stupid?! Here she was breaking down to him about the deterioration of her friendship and he calls it stupid! He really was a jerk. “What is that supposed to mean?!” the blonde demanded with the worst glare she could manage (which honestly looked more like a pouting rabbit).
“I mean who cares if you got eliminated from some dumb contest by some stupid celebrity? She’s still your friend, right? So shouldn’t you want to support her even if you don’t get in?” he continued.
“She still stayed even after what they said to me,” Usagi countered, sniffling. She was still mad about that!
“Maybe she didn’t know what to do or maybe she wanted to see how far she could get. And no offense, Odango Atama, but you did trip somebody even if they were a jerk,” he continued before looking downwards. “Look, all I’ll say is you can either sit here crying and annoying nearby pedestrians or try and talk to your friend and see where that takes you.”
As much as Usagi hated to admit it, the baka had a point. Flashes of her past with Naru went through her head. The first time they met in their First Year, going to each other’s birthday parties, shopping around Azabujuban, having slumber parties, just being each other’s shoulder to cry on whenever one of them failed a particularly hard exam, and messed around in detention. They were all great memories and she knew Naru was a great person which brought Usagi to the hard question; whether or not to give all that up.
She looked back to where the baka was to ask what she should do but to her surprise, annoyance, and anger he was gone. Disappeared like a ghost or phantom or something. Wait, what? Did he just leave her here all alone!?
That jerk!
That complete and utter baka!
To top it all off, he left his stupid paper bag. What was even in that stupid paper bag? Usagi curious and with dignified anger ripped open the bag only to find…PORK BUNS!
Freshly made and delicious pork buns! They even still seemed hot.
She felt her hungry belly roar as the delicious scents poured into her nostrils. She was so hungry! And all this thinking and stress just made it worst!
Would he mind if she had some?
Maybe not.
He did just leave it there.
Finders keepers and all that.
Slowly, she plucked out a pork bun and took a large bite. She didn’t know if it was because she skipped dessert, breakfast, and lunch but it was one of the tastiest things she had all week! If only Naru-chan was here to share. Usagi paused in the middle of her second bite, the aching sad feeling returning. Not hunger, not anger. It felt worse than either of those.
She knew what she had to do.
“Usagi?” a familiar female voice called out. Wait…
“Luna?” Usagi asked, looking all around for the cat before spotting her on a nearby windowsill.
“I’ve been looking all over for you! I tried going to where the Cinderella Caravan was being held but I couldn’t find you,” Luna said as she jumped onto a dumpster and then towards Usagi.
Usagi wiped her eyes before saying, “I was eliminated from the contest after tripping a girl and Naru-chan got to move on.”
The fourteen-year-old secret superheroine saw Luna stare at her before the black feline said, “I’m sorry to hear that Usagi. Do you…do you want to go home?”
Usagi stood up with a determined look and grabbed the bag. “No. I still have something to do.” Luna gave a confused look to her blonde charge before sighing.
“Alright,” the cat said, sounding kind of defeated before she jumped onto Usagi’s shoulders.
The blonde ran with all her might towards the Cinderella Caravan.
And towards Naru-chan!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s a piece of good advice; when breaking into an academy used to train future idols, don’t sneak into through the smallest window they have because there’s a very good chance you’ll end up falling on your face. Usagi had to learn this the hard way when she well, broke in through the smallest window after being denied entry by the stupid security guards. “Ow,” the blonde whined as she slowly picked herself off the hard wooden floor.
“I told you that was a bad idea.” It was Luna’s voice, mocking her as the loud sound of scratching could be heard.
“Shut up, Luna,” Usagi muttered into the floor before the blonde looked up at the black cat. She was fine. “Wait, you fell in with me. How are you okay?”
Luna stared at her for a moment before in a simple voice saying, “I’m a cat.”
Usagi gave an ‘oh…right’ face before slowly picking herself up when she heard the loud voices and quiet whimpers. Wait a minute those whimpers. She knew those whimpers! It was Naru!
Naru was in trouble!
Usagi quickly ran past her guardian cat and rounded a corner where she arrived backstage where she saw six girls, including the one she tripped, ganging up on someone. No. Not just someone. Naru!
“Why are you still here?” one of the girls said in a mocking tone.
“Hey weren’t you the one with the freak?” asked the girl Usagi tripped in a tone that showed she obviously knew the truth.
Naru said nothing. Usagi saw that she was just standing there, taking the abuse that was being flung at her and that made her blood boil! How dare they treat Naru like that?! She was her best friend!
“HEY!” Usagi called out, anger obvious in her voice which caused all seven of the girl to look back in shock to see the voice belonged to the former contestant. “How dare you treat, Naru-chan that way!?”
“How did you get past security?” the one on the left asked with a sneering tone.
The pain of falling into a building from a window flashed into Usagi’s head that she quickly shook away. Got to stay strong in the face of these girls! “Nevermind that! Who do you think you mocking Naru-chan that way? She has just as much a right to be here as you do and given that you probably have another competition soon, but you should worry more about that instead of being mean to your competitors.”
The mean girls blinked in unison at the defiance in Usagi’s voice before they laughed. Cackled more like when the girl who tripped Usagi asked, “And just what are you going to do about it?”
Usagi, grabbed Luna off the floor, who had been licking her paw, and held her up to the girl who just stared confused at the feline. Usagi stared back at the girl and then in a low voice said, “I’ll sic my cat on you.” Usagi then turned a pleading eye to the cat who looked at her confused before sighing and turning to the girl in front of her. Luna let out several hisses and threatening meows before extending her claws to show she was serious.
The girl Usagi tripped jumped back before she stared at Usagi who looked deadly serious which actually frightened her. However, she quickly regained composure before saying to her friends, “Let’s leave the weirdos alone. They’re not worth our time.” With that, the six girls left the three alone.
“Usagi?” Naru asked with happiness in her voice. Maybe she wasn’t mad that Usagi tried to drag her out. Unfortunately, no. Naru looked down and turned her back to Usagi, “What do you want?”
The secret superheroine slowly put down the black cat and said, “I wanted to apologize, Naru-chan. Someone,” even if he was a jerk, “helped me realize that my friendship with you is way more important than not being in some stupid contest and I should’ve supported you instead of trying to drag you away from it.”
“Really?” she heard Naru hopefully ask.
“Yeah. You’re still my best friend no matter what and I’m here to support you, win or lose,” Usagi said with a smile.
Naru looked back with a smile as well before running over to Usagi and giving her the biggest hug which the blonde happily returned. “Thank you so much, Usagi-chan! Honestly, I was just about to leave when you arrived. And I’m so sorry that I didn’t defend you against them! You were right to trip her! She and her friends are absolutely awful!”
“Well, make it up to me by beating them! You’re amazing Naru-chan and I know you’re going to win this!” Usagi said as the two hugged again.
“Osaka Naru?” a male voice said. The two girls looked over. It was Shiratori-sama’s manager. “You’re needed on stage since Shiratori will be out soon.”
“But-” Naru said before looking at her friend.
“Go on! Break a leg! I’ll be right here in the wings watching!” Usagi said with a smile. This seemed to be all the encouragement Naru needed before she let go of Usagi and walked onto the stage where a microphone was set up for her. The blonde snuck over to get a better looking waiting to see her friend’s moment to shine since.
She felt a scratch on her cheek before anything could start, however. It was Luna who really wanted to get her attention. “What?” Usagi angrily whispered back. What did Luna want now? The competition was just about to start! Usagi watched as Luna’s head pointed straight toward the manager who was now walking further backstage. “Yeah? So what?”
“I think there’s something off about him,” Luna said in a mumbly whisper so as not to be heard by anyone else. “I think we should follow him.”
“But what about Naru-chan?” Usagi said in a similarly low voice.
“I’m sure we’ll be back in time to watch you friend if we go now,” Luna said before she jumped off Usagi’s shoulders.
Not seeing the point in arguing with the cat, Usagi reluctantly followed her with a prayer that she’d be right and they’d be back before Naru could sing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The black cat and her human charge found themselves outside a dressing room that was open a crack. Secretly, ever so secretly they peeked in to see the manager and Shiratori-sama, who was sitting in front of a mirror applying a layer of makeup, talking. “Don’t worry, master. Everything is completely under control,” Shiratori-sama said in a rather cruel tone. And why did she call her manager her master?
“And you’re sure she hasn’t come?” the manager asked.
“She’s been none the wiser and the competition will be over before she ever gets the chance,” she continued. Wait who was she? Usagi’s started to get a pit in her stomach as she watched the scene unfold.
“Do not get cocky,” the manager warned.
“Master,” she cut off before looking at him curtly. “You needn’t be afraid. There’s absolutely no way Sailor Moon will ever know the true reason behind the Cinderella Caravan because, unlike the others, I actually learn from mistakes.” Sailor Moon? Wait! Usagi was Sailor Moon! How would Shiratori Mikan know about Sailor Moon? Unless…The idol was working with her enemies. It would explain what she meant about the true purpose of the Cinderella Caravan. That pit in her stomach became larger and more obvious.
“What about the girls you turned away? They could’ve been useful as energy resources for our Great Queen,” the manager(?) questioned.
“Master the goal is not to get caught, isn’t it? People will take notice if a whole bunch of girls went missing,” the evil idol continued. “Besides the exercise bikes, I used during the endurance test siphoned off a ton of energy from them and the pins from the dancing class are continuing to do so.” Usagi looked down and quickly ripped off the pin from her clothes. She almost forgot she was wearing it. Oh no! Was she giving energy to the Dark Kingdom without realizing it? Quickly, she crushed the object in her grip reducing it to nothing more than glass bits that leaked out dark energy.
“But-” the man continued.
“I assure you, master. Our Great Queen will have all she needs once I crystalize those girls as I did to the real Shiratori Mikan.” Wait real Shiratori Mikan? So this woman was a fake. Thank goodness. But wait where was the real idol then? Usagi peeked back in to see the fake Shiratori Mikan standing up and opening the closet where she saw something glistening brightly making her unable to see from her position. What was that? “Besides, it’s not like we can’t get more energy from these stupid little girls. So desperate and needy to be accepted, they’re practically begging to be used for my plot. Say a couple of nice things, a couple of bad things, and soon enough their putty in our hands and for Our Great Queen.”
“Fine, but be warned, that if Sailor Moon ends up getting involved then there will be no help for you,” he continued.
“Alright, Master Jadeite, and when I do collect all the energy, be sure to tell Our Great Queen which youma finally came through.” The manager, no the dark general, disappeared in a cloud of black smoke as the fake put on a false smile and headed for the door.
SHOOT!
Quickly, the two ran around for a moment before quickly hiding.
The fake walked passed them and thankfully they didn’t get seen.
Then again, Usagi and Luna did hide in a base and cello box respectively.
Once the two were sure, she was gone the two emerged.
“I think it’s time for Sailor Moon to make an appearance,” Luna said to which Usagi simply nodded in agreement.
“Moon Prism Power Make Up!” Usagi cried as the familiar pink ribbons surrounded her, transforming her normal clothes into the sailor-themed fuku of a sailor guardian with its accessories turning her from normal girl Usagi into the one and only Sailor Moon!
Sailor Moon quickly ran into the dressing room where she saw a horrific sight. It was Shiratori Mikan. The real Shiratori Mikan trapped in glowing blue crystal with a look of paralyzing fear on her face! She looked so terrified! So afraid! It almost made Sailor Moon cry. No. She can’t cry. Not now. She needs help. Wiping at her eyes, the sailor guardian turned to her cat, “How do I free her?”
Luna paced around, clearly trying to think of a way to solve the problem. Unfortunately, she was cut out of her thought process when she heard a loud whirring sound from behind her which caused her to quickly look back to see Sailor Moon trying to free Shiratori Mikan…with a hairdryer. “Put that down!” Luna cried out.
“I panicked okay!” Sailor Moon cried out as she quickly set down the hairdryer.
“We need a real solution, not a hair- The moon tiara!”
“The moon tiara?” Sailor Moon asked confused. “Won’t that turn her into moon dust though?”
“Not if we do this right,” Luna said. “Just concentrate on the evil energy and not Mikan Shiratori and she should be okay.”
Well, if Luna says it will work…Sailor Moon took off her tiara and concentrated with all her might on the crystal and only the crystal. Only the crystal. Only the crystal. “Moon tiara boomerang!” Sailor Moon cried as the tiara soared through the air before instead of just going through the crystal, it did something Sailor Moon never saw before, it made an X. It surrounded the evil crystal, piercing it so light burst out from the inside as the crystal slowly disintegrated into moon dust before the tiara came flying back into the superheroine’s hand.
A loud gasp was heard and Sailor Moon quickly ran over to see the older teenager gasping and coughing loudly. “Are you al-”
“No get away!” the idol screamed out in fear as she huddled into a corner like a frightened puppy. She must’ve been through a lot. Sailor Moon took a step back before Mikan stared at her. “Wait, you’re not that monster,” she said in a shaky but relieved tone. “W-who are you?”
“I’m the pretty guardian in a sailor suit, Sailor Moon!” Sailor Moon said as she struck a pose. “Are you Shiratori Mikan? The pop idol?”
“Y-yeah. I was finishing up a concert when I was-” her face gleamed with obvious fear as she shook violently. “I w-was…” Sailor Moon quickly rushed over to her and pulled her into a hug. It was really the only thing she could think of at the moment to calm the older girl before she could completely break down and thankfully it seemed to work. Slowly, the idol stopped breathing so heavily and she wasn’t shaking so much anymore. Good. “Attacked. I was attacked by some kind of demon then everything went black.” Sailor Moon felt so bad for her. How long had she been in that crystal anyway? “Are you here to stop her?” Mikan asked in a hopeful but desperate voice.
The superheroine nodded. “Don’t worry, everything’s going to be okay! Just get out of here while you can,” Sailor Moon said as she slowly helped Mikan-san to her feet.
“I want to come to,” Mikan asked to which both Luna and Sailor Moon gave a look  of shock. Mikan-san come to? But wouldn’t she be scared?
“Wouldn’t you be scared?” Sailor Moon asked out loud.
“I can’t let that thing continue to run around. Who knows what else it might do,” Mikan-san said with a shaky voice and eyes full of resolve.
Sailor Moon and Luna gave each other a quick glance before the latter gestured for the idol to follow. They better hurry though. Mikan-san was right; who knows what that thing might do?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naru was holding a microphone between the six other finalists as Shiratori-sama walked in with a smile reaching ear-to-ear as she started to explain the rules of the contest.
However, the redhead wasn’t listening. She was instead trying to catch a glimpse of Usagi behind the curtain to see where she disappeared to. Did she need to use the bathroom or something? Or maybe she was grabbing a snack or something? That did sound like Usagi. Naru remembers when she and Usagi were in their second year of school before they met Umino, they were little terrors to Usagi’s mom and would constantly swipe a cookie or cake that Tsukino-san was going to serve. Naru smiled a bit at that memory as more began to play in her head. That time at the ice cream parlor where they both simultaneously got brain freeze. That time when Naru had to practically drag Usagi onto a rollercoaster. The 14-year-old giggled a bit at remembering the look of horror on Usagi’s face as they went speeding down the incline.
Would she still be able to have moments like that if she went through with the contest?
Naru paused as she began to dwell on this though. Would she have time to hang out with Usagi if she did win?
Already it was a lot of work just getting to this point. All the dancing and exercise and endurance and worst of all, she’s been feeling so weak from it. Like something was literally zapping away her energy. It was all so tiring!
And if she did win, would it continue? Shiratori-sama did say that being idol is only for those who can deal with it. She even mocked Usagi when Usagi was just trying to defend someone! Would that be what Naru would have to deal with if she became an idol? Just allowing people to be bullied in front of her?
And then what about her friendship with Usagi? Would she just be expected to break it off or would they just grow apart? Would she have to lose her best friend?
Did Naru really want to be an idol?
No.
No. She didn’t. She wanted to just be a normal girl with her best friend and be able to do normal things and be nice to others.
That was who she was.
Osaka Naru knew what she had to do.
Slowly, she raised her hand in order to get Shiratori-sama’s attention when the idol let out a loud, horrific screech.
Naru was in shock for a moment until she saw something terrifying.
SHIRATORI’S-SAMA’S SKIN WAS CRACKING OFF!
The screech became louder as more cracks formed on her skin as though the idol was made out of glass or crystal or something.
Naru had no idea what to do and could only stand there in horrified shock as the girls next to her let out screams of terror.
The skin fell completely as it shattered into little pieces once it hit the ground, revealing the idol wasn’t an idol at all! It was some kind of strange creature made out of pure glass that sort of resembled an old woman if the old woman had grotesque fangs and yellow eyes that glared at everything. On her body, she wore a light purple dress with a slit that barely hung from its body and she was completely barefoot.
“What is that thing!?” Naru finally cried out, finally finding her voice! What was going on!?
The other girls tried to run away but the monster used the pieces of his fake skins to entrap their feet, forcing them into a freeze. Only Naru was spared because she was too terrified to even move at this point.
“Well, it seems I’ll be having to keep all six of you for our Great Queen’s resurrection,” it said with a cold, heartless tone before snapping its fingers.
All of a sudden Naru’s arm felt heavy. Quickly, she looked over to see the microphone she was holding had completely disappeared and now the entire lower half of her arm was being engulfed by glass crystal or something! Naru let out a huge scream as she tried to rip it off as it began crawling towards her!
Silently crying, Naru pleaded and prayed for someone, ANYONE to come and wake her from this nightmare!
“Stop right there!” a voice called. Naru’s teary eyes turned to see two girls and a black cat who emerged from the shadows of backstage. “How dare you take advantage of innocent girls who just want to light up the stage with singing and dancing by using their fears and insecurities to turn them on each other causing hate and division?! I am the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice! I am Sailor Moon and in the name of of the moon, I will punish you!”
“This is show business, if they can’t take the heat then they can get out of the kitchen. Our Great Queen doesn’t need subpar sacrifices for her grand resurrection. Which reminds me,” the monster snapped its fingers and the glass began crawling faster along Naru’s arm as the girl in the sailor outfit looked on in horror.
“Stop!” the girl, Sailor Moon, cried out as she tried to run over to her. It was too late though, the crystal had reached Naru’s face! As her vision started to turn black, she thought she heard something like “NARU-CHAN!”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“NARU-CHAN!” Sailor Moon cried out as she reached the crystal her friend had been cocooned in! She’d been too late to save Naru-chan and the other girls! “Set them free!” Sailor Moon cried out to the monster with tears in her eyes.
“Now why would I do that?” the monster asked with a wicked smile that looked like the one she faked as Mikan-san but all twisted and evil. Maybe it always was and Sailor Moon was just too blind to it. “Already these crystals are providing a delicious amount of energy to our Great Queen and once I encase that brat again,” the creature cried out pointing to Mikan-san who looked like she did when she was first freed from her own crystal, “I will be able to collect energy for years to come and then this pathetic planet will bow to her!”
“I will never let that happen!” Sailor Moon said as she ran over to where Mikan-san was standing and got in the way.
“I know. That’s why I, Derella, is going to kill you here and now,” the monster continued before her hand twisted and bent itself into a sword before charging at Sailor Moon, Mikan, and Luna.
“Mikan-san! RUN!” Sailor Moon cried out as she and Mikan-san split into opposite directions. Luckily, the monster Derella came after Sailor Moon and Luna. UNLUCKILY, DERELLA WAS COMING AFTER THEM! The cat yelped in fear as Sailor Moon screamed, both trying to avoid Derella’s sword arm that was currently lunging at all their important points.
The superheroine looked around them. She saw Mikan-san heading for the lever that activated the trapdoors which brought down herself and the crystals with her friend and the other girls. Thank goodness, they’ll be okay at least. Unfortunately, that did little to help them in this current moment! Sailor Moon desperately needed something, anything that could get them out of this situation. Unfortunately, there was nothing.
Unless…Sailor Moon’s eyes landed on Luna who looked up at her with confused eyes. “What are you?-” Luna asked before yelping as she was roughly grabbed by Sailor Moon and held over the blonde superheroine’s shoulder.
“Sorry, Luna!” Sailor Moon cried out before she straight up threw the cat who screamed out in fear as went barreling towards the glass monster.
It did…nothing.
At most, it made her give a look of annoyance but that didn’t even matter as she simply tossed aside the cat who yelled, “SAILOR MOON!” in fury.
“Sorry!” Sailor Moon shouted back but Derella didn’t care. No, the monster just continued to lunge and chase the blonde senshi across the stage which was only ended in the worst way when Sailor Moon fell on her foot in the worst way possible.
With a loud crunch and yelp coming from her lips, the superheroine was taken out by a twisted ankle. Pain shot up throughout her body as she went into the fetal position, clutching her ankle. It really hurt! However, this wasn’t the end of her troubles either. A loud cackle filled the theatre and before Sailor Moon could even try to get up, a violet heel ground into her causing a lot more pain to fill her body. Through pained eyes Sailor Moon looked up to see Derella giving a twisted smile. “You know I’m a little disappointed. I thought after you defeated the others, you would be harder to beat. Aw well,” Derella spoke as Sailor Moon desperately tried to pull herself off the ground or even to just push her stupid foot off her chest. It was no use though! She looked up to see Derella’s sword arm swinging right to her head, which she desperately tried to hide as a last resort as the superheroine let out a long scream for help! From someone! ANYONE!
Derella let out a loud screech and Sailor Moon dared to open her eyes to see a crimson red rose sticking out of the ground next to her and Derella’s glass-sword arm now back to a normal human arm with deep cracks which appeared to cause her pain…Could it be?
“Taking advantage of innocent women and girls’ dreams of fame and renown and twisting them into being servants for your own twisted purposes, that is a crime of which I, Tuxedo Mask, can never forgive!” It was! It was Tuxedo Mask! Sailor Moon nearly cried in joy and hope as she searched all around for where he was until her eyes landed on his handsome, tuxedoed form on the top of the stage before he jumped down.
She watched with joy as her rose-throwing savior jumped toward them before smacking the glass monster out of the way causing her to fall off the stage with a loud crack. Did that kill her? Sailor Moon didn’t have long to wonder about this as she took her into his strong arms and jumped away. “Are you alright?” Tuxedo Mask asked, once they were in the wings near the entrance to the flys.
“I-I think so. My ankle got twisted though,” Sailor Moon said.
“Your ankle?” Tuxedo Mask softly asked as he gently set her down before he started to look around him until Sailor Moon noticed his eyes landing on a clothes rack. “Wait here.” Quickly, he ran towards the clothes rack and Sailor Moon saw him tearing off a piece of fabric and grabbing a small piece of set wood that was nearby before rushing over.
Sailor Moon watched in wonder as he tied the makeshift cast around her ankle with a blush. Tuxedo Mask really was so kind and thoughtful! “How’s that?” she heard him ask as she admired his handiwork.
“Much better. Thank you!” Sailor Moon cried out with delight. She looked at Tuxedo Mask, who seemed to be satisfied at her answer, and noticed how close they were to each other. Close enough that if she just leaned in slightly their lips would be touching. Sailor Moon felt her already red cheeks become a deeper shade at that sweet thought.
Unfortunately, the thought wasn’t going to last as they both heard a long yowl and the screams of “SAILOR MOON!” Oh no! Sailor Moon knew that voice! LUNA!
The two jumped to their feet and ran (or fastly limped in Sailor Moon’s case) to the stage where they saw Derella with a crazed smile and cracks all along her glass body holding up her glass-sword that was filled with shards to Luna’s neck who was held in her grasp as the cat fought with all her might to be free. “LET HER GO!” Sailor Moon cried out.
“Gladly,” Derella said as she threw Luna at Sailor Moon as Sailor Moon had done earlier.
“Sailor Moon!” Tuxedo Mask cried out in fear as Luna came barrelling into Sailor Moon who just barely managed to catch her. A loud, terrible cackle flooded onto the stage as through her daze Sailor Moon saw Derella rushing at the three of them with her shard glass sword arm. Thank goodness, Tuxedo Mask had great reflexes though! In a flash, Sailor Moon saw him whip out his cane and block the would-be lethal attack! Tuxedo Mask was so amazing! “SAILOR MOON! RUN! I’LL HOLD HER OFF!” he shouted at her, as he continued to block the glass monster’s attacks.
Not going to argue with him, Sailor Moon rose to her feet with Luna jumping onto her shoulder as Sailor Moon tried to think of some way to help Tuxedo Mask as she ran backstage until she saw the ladder that led to flys before remembering that when Derella had been in her disguise as Mikan-san she had traveled on a swing that must still be up there! Sailor Moon grew a huge smile and grabbed onto the ladder. “What are you doing, Sailor Moon?” the superheroine heard her guardian cat ask.
“Don’t worry, Luna. Just trust me!” Sailor Moon said and even with her injured leg she flew up those stairs until she arrived to the flys themselves as the sounds of steel meeting glass continued to echo throughout the theatre. Sailor Moon quickly looked down to see her masked hero still in deep combat with monster as he remained on the defensive. He looked like her was holding his own against her but Sailor Moon could tell he was getting winded. He won’t have much time soon! Sailor Moon had to act fast!
Luckily, the swing was still over the stage but unfortunately, it was tied. Fortunately, she had a magic cat with super long claws. “Wait, are you going to drop the swing on top of Derella?” Luna questioned as she finally understood Sailor Moon’s plan.
“Is that a problem?” Sailor Moon asked.
“Nope. Just checking,” Luna said before she jumped off Usagi’s shoulders and jumped from one side of the flys to the other, cutting the swing's ropes as she went by before landing perfectly.
The swing started to fall quickly towards the stage with a great swoosh accompanied by Sailor Moon crying out, “TUXEDO MASK! WATCH OUT!” Fortunately, he seemed to understand this as he quickly jumped out of the way. Not Derella though, who seemed to be a way to focus on defeating Tuxedo Mask to notice the falling swing coming right toward her head until way too late! The swing came crashing on top of her leaving a small crater in the stage floor as Sailor Moon ran back down the ladder towards Tuxedo Mask who looked really sweaty and tired. He did fight really hard after all.
However, there was no time for the exchange of words as they heard the cracking and shaking of shattered glass. Oh no! She was getting back up again! Not this time!
Before she could completely rise to her feet again, Sailor Moon activated her tiara! “Moon Tiara Boomerang!” The tiara, for the second time today, became of a disk of pure and unbreakable light that flew through the air until it reached its target. It flew through Derella’s shattered body as she let out a scream of pure hate and terror that was quickly silenced by her body dissolving into a pile of moondust.
Sailor Moon fell to the ground and just lay there for a moment. She was so tired. Not eating today, being overworked, defeating monsters, twisting your ankle, AND having your energy drained were just a recipe for being pooped. “Well done, Sailor Moon,” she heard Tuxedo Mask say as she watched him crouch next to her. “Are you going to be okay after I leave?” he asked with worry obvious in his voice. Aw! He’s so sweet!
As for the answer to his question, Sailor Moon wanted to say she wasn’t and that she should be carried home again, Luna go to him first. “She’ll be fine without you.” She sounded pretty rude to him.
“Luna!” Sailor Moon said angrily. She shouldn’t be rude, you know.
“We need to go check on Derella’s victims, Sailor Moon,” Luna continued looking her dead in the eye. Sailor Moon let out a gasp. Naru-chan! Mikan-san! The others! The last time she saw them, Mikan-san was getting them all to safety but now that the monster was gone, were they okay? She knew they should be because Derella was dead but they probably were still pretty shaken up!
“She’s right! I got to go!” Sailor Moon said as she stood up before smiling sweetly at Tuxedo Mask. “But thank you so much for all your help.”
Sailor Moon saw the corners of Tuxedo Mask’s lips turn upwards which made Sailor Moon’s heart skip a beat at how beautiful his small smile was. “It was my pleasure, Sailor Moon. And if you should ever have need of me, I’ll be there,” Tuxedo Mask continued with a bow.
Sailor Moon looked down for a moment, a blush still obvious on her cheeks. She then reluctantly turned to leave but as she looked back one last time to give one more goodbye to her tuxedoed hero, he was already gone. The sailor guardian felt a pain in her chest as she looked around for him until she heard, “Sailor Moon!”
“Coming!” Sailor Moon called back as she chased after the cat to make sure everyone was okay. She’ll see him again soon. And maybe next time they’ll have more time to talk!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“But I am sorry!” Usagi whined. It was Monday morning and once again Naru-chan and Usagi were placed on cleaning duty as detention again. Usagi guessed abandoning their cleaning duty to join an evil competition and leaving their nerdy friend to do most of the work afterwards was grounds for this but still sucked. Well…at least everything turned out okay, more or less. After last night, that was all Usagi could ask for. Luckily, all the girls including Naru-chan were fine. Shaken and a little fearful, but they weren’t in crystals at least. Thankfully, Mikan was there to calm them down and they managed to get home okay but the overwhelming guilt Usagi was feeling wasn’t going away anytime soon.
“Really, Usagi! It’s totally fine. I’m okay,” Naru-chan replied. “It’s still really weird what happened though. It was almost like a dream or something.”
Usagi got a frightened look on her face before she asked, “What do you remember about yesterday?”
“I remember I was on stage when that monster thing attacked me before some girl in a sailor suit appeared,” Naru-chan said with a clearly strained look on her face before she looked over at Usagi had fear written all over her face. “Where did you go by the way?”
“Uh…the bathroom,” Usagi then gave the most pathetic excuse of smile anyone probably had ever seen. Usagi didn’t even buy it and clearly, neither did Naru.
However, before Usagi had to deal with that something happened. “THIS IS HORRIBLE!” shouted the distraction which turned out to be Umino.
“UMINO!” Usagi cried out in joy, thankful for the unexpected distraction!
“Look! The worst has happened!” Umino said before throwing a paper at Usagi’s face.
The blonde secret superheroine slowly peeled the newspaper off her face as Naru headed over to scan it as well. There written in bold, black letters was Upcoming Idol, Shiratori Mikan, Leaves the Idol Business!
Did it just say leave?
Usagi and Naru both reread the paper and it did confirm that Shiratori Mikan was leaving the business altogether. Was it because of what happened with Derella? Did her reputation take a big hit or something? Usagi wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason but it would be really sad.
“Sources say that Shiratori Mikan, age 17, is leaving the idol business in order to pursue her new dream of being a humanitarian and helping people all across the planet. Her former manager, Hoga Yoshi, has chosen not to comment,” Naru read from the paper as Usagi read along with her. “Well, that sucks. I thought she really liked being an idol but I guess I can’t blame her.”
“What do you mean!?” Umino cried as he fell to the ground with tears in his eyes. “Now I’ll never hear her songs or have a chance with her!”
Usagi rolled her eyes, before saying, “You probably wouldn’t have a chance with her anyway, Umino. Besides, what matters is what makes her happy, and the fact she’s using that to help build people up and show them a better way is wonderful.” Usagi smiled as she looked at the picture of Shiratori Mikan hoping that she’ll be able to be happy with whatever she does.

On the Left is basically critics, fix-it fanfics, and rewrites. Oh, and the accusations of toxic positivity.

I have posted chapters five to seven for WMHS and that should suffice enough for my readers. I think I will pull away from that particular story to allow my muse time to outline the next three chapters for it. Besides, there are other stories I have that need more attention now than anything.
One of them is Every Time I Love You. I have had that story on the back burner for sooooo long that I have not touched it in over two years.
Possibly three.
So yeah, that one needs to be worked on. I kinda wish I had been working on it for a while but my attention has been devoted to the rewrite for WMHS.
You know it took me about - give or take - nearly ten years to even finish up To FInd You Again. It went through a massive rewrite just a few years ago. I would come home from work and write it. On days off, it was being worked on. I was happy when it finally finished before Covid. I want to say like a year beforehand. I could be wrong and the story was finished during Covid, but I would need to go back to see the final date. xD
I also have Long Lost Queen that needs attention. I have not decided how I am going to start that one. It may also go through another rewrite and maybe spark Musie into ideas.
A Jealous Betrayal -  that one needs a whole rewrite and a direction to take it too.
As you can see, many stories. Many unfinished. Some older one-shots may be looking at rewrites.
One being Hellhound. I still feel that one felt rushed. Like I needed to post it for the month of October simply because of Halloween. So, that may be another one in the reworks.
And the others? Maybe those too. I might be able to leave one of them alone, but we shall see what happens with that.
Anyway, it is nearly two in the morning here and I need to take my medication. See you all later on today. :D

i’m reading the book ‘phantom heart’ and i caught a couple references! ;)
#i've read 12 chapters so far and there are a ton more#later in the book i spotted a death's head book reference but i can't find it anymore :/#when i come across it again i'll definitely share it! ;)#the references here are lucas' name being similar to lon chaney and the dad's name being the managers' first names#the author has been a poto fan since childhood so she must've had a lot of fun with the references! ;)#i'll definitely have to make a reference to this story in the rewrite#it's so cool! :D#although it's certainly different! :o#besides the modern setting erik is a british ghost whose family died in 1903 (they owned the house that the main girl stephanie is in)#erik's ghost is possessed by a demon called zedok which is totally mistress 9 possessing hotaru in sailor moon! :o#he haunts the bedroom of charlie stephanie's little sister#their mom died right after charlie was born and stephanie hasn't sung at the old piano since#it's sort of like christine with her dad! ;)#i wonder if christine (or someone like her) will be in the story...#i'll have to wait and see! ;)#also stephanie joins lucas' ghost hunting group which sort of has 'ghost on the roof' vibes since jo is looking for the ghost in that one!#and they're both modern poto stories ;)#edit: the corps de ballet now has a dozen dancers with the addition of stephanie and her sister charlene! (a full name for charlie) ;D#charlie is also a nickname of charlotte (aka the girl in lucas' ghost hunting group!)#there are now 3 chars in the potoverse! ;)

Sailor Moon Sailor Stars and Sailor Moon Cosmos - The Sailor Starlights
Recently, I had a discussion with @sailormoonrewrite about the Sailor Starlights and I came to the realization; the Sailor Starlights are JERKS. Why, you ask? Well… for starters, Serena/Usagi was FORCED to go on a date with one of the three; Seiya, when Serena/Usagi obviously had a boyfriend she loved, and Seiya was obviously rude to Serena/Usagi. On top of that, the three starlights mocked Darien/Mamaoru when for all they know, he could be dead. Just thinking about that makes my stomach ache… BUT, with the whole idea of rewriting the classic Sailor Moon anime to make it more memorable and iconic, all that rudeness and forced dating and mocking Darien/Mamoru are COMPLETELY GONE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this whole rewrite will make the Sailor Starlights look and feel much better as characters as they’ll go through a character arc though our Sailor Stars (season 5) that’ll make them warm up to the Sailor Guardians, the Sailor Quartet and Tuxedo Mask. But before I go over that, i wanna explain the starlights’ role in the manga.
In the manga, the Sailor Starlights appear and while Seiya develops a crush on Serena/Usagi, Seiya’s much less creepy about it and realizes that Seyia’s feelings are unrequited as Serena/Usagi already has a lover; Darien/Mamoru. The Starlights also find out that their leader; Princess Kakyuu is found out to be a sailor scout herself. There’s also a subplot where the Starlights are pretending to be Darien/Mamoru in order to warn Serena/Usagi about Sailor Galaxia and to prevent Serena/Usagi from having a complete metal breakdown over Darien/Mamoru’s death at the hands of Sailor Galaxia… and Galaxia eventually kills the Sailor Starlights as well.
Now with that explained, it’s time to go over the Starlights’ arc in the classic anime rewrite. Now as a quick side note, they’d still take the public identities of Kou Seiya Kou Taiki snd Kou Yaten and create the band “Nagareboshi He” in order to blend in and hide their true identities as beings from another world.
ARC part 1 (Sailor Moon Sailor Stars) - When the Sailor Starlights; Sailor Star Fighter, Sailor Star Maker and Sailor Star Healer first arrive on earth to search for their princess, Kakyuu, they’d act rude to the Sailor Guardians and Sailor Quartet at first. However, over the course of Sailor Stars (season 5), the three would start to slowly warm up to the Sailor Guardians and Sailor Quartet, being impressed by the Sailor Guardians’ and Sailor Quartet’s kindness and determination to protect the earth, and the Starlights even help the Sailor Guardians and Sailor Quartet fight the Sailor Animamates. Eventually, in the season 5 finale (episode 200 overall), the Starlights reveal that the reason they acted rude at first upon arriving on earth is because their home planet, Kinmoku, was destroyed by Sailor Galaxia. And the loss of their homes, friends, families and planet left severe trauma and psychological damage on the Starlights.
ARC part 2 (Sailor Moon Cosmos) - In Sailor Moon Cosmos (season 6), the Sailor Starlights would join Judan High School to further bond with the Sailor Guardians, even joining some of the clubs the Sailor Guardians are in. And near the end of season 6, Darien/Mamoru is killed by Sailor Galaxia and Serena/Usagi watches in horror. As a result, Serena/Usagi doesn’t know what’s real anymore. She has visions and even nightmares of Darien/Mamoru dying but is receiving letters from him. Serena/Usagi doesn’t know it, but the Sailor Starlights are pretending to be Darien/Mamoru by using their men disguises, and they’re doing this because they’re doing their best to make sure that Serena/Usagi doesn’t suffer the same amount of psychological damage that they did. Eventually when the ultimate final battle comes, the Sailor Starlights are the last to be killed by Sailor Galaxia after she kills the 9 Eternal Sailor Guardians, the Sailor Quartet, and Princess Kakyuu. But in the series finale (episode 250), after Sailor Chaos (Sailor Galaxia’s ultimate form) is defeated by Sailor Moon, with the help of Sailor Cosmos (Chibichibi’s ultimate form) the Sailor Starlights are revived alongside Tuxedo Mask/Darien/Mamoru, Princess Kakyuu, other 9 Sailor Guardians and the Sailor Quartet. With earth safe and Kinmoku being brought back thanks to Sailors Cosmos and Moon, the Sailor Starlights bid their friends farewell and head back to their home planet as shooting stars.
And that’s the whole arc for the Sailor Starlights for my classic Sailor Moon anime rewrite. And huge thanks to @sailormoonrewrite for helping me with this whole thing regarding the Sailor Starlights. And more posts going over other ideas and objectives I have in mind for my classic Sailor Moon anime rewrite will arrive soon, so stay tuned.

Episode 8: The Girl Genius is a Monster: The Brainwashing Cram School of Horrors
“Failure after failure,” she said coldly to the general kneeling before her.
“Your Majesty-”
Queen Beryl of the Dark Kingdom didn’t allow him to answer. She wasn’t in the mood to hear any more of his excuses today. Instead, she allowed her power to flow through her into her dark staff, creating a streak of black lightning that sent him flying across the room. A loud thud was heard, but Queen Beryl didn’t care if he was injured or dead. He was a fool who embarrassed her several times with his pathetic schemes. She probably should’ve just gotten rid of him already. He was easily replaceable, but then who would she take her frustrations out on?
A loud cough resounded, followed by his struggling to speak, “Please...Your...”
She quickly silenced that with another black bolt. It caused him to scream and pain before he fell to the floor. Queen Beryl could barely stifle her laughter. Serves him right after all. “Do you believe I should be lenient with you, Jadeite?”
“Y-your…” he began to speak again only to be struck again when he couldn’t.
“I asked you a question, Jadeite. Our Great Queen needs human energy. Energy you swore to deliver and yet every time you bring back merely a fraction of the promised energy and every time your youmas are defeated by a mere girl so why should I let you continue to live? Why shouldn’t I just reduce you to dust or take your energy as a gift to Our Great Queen?”
“B-because,” he began as sparks and bits of electricity appeared around his singed body, “despite Sailor Moon, I have brought back energy. It might not be enough but I swear it will soon be corrected.”
“Sailor Moon,” Queen Beryl growled, hatred and disgust obvious in her voice.
“Yes. Sailor Moon,” Jadeite continued. “It’s her fault! My plans always went perfectly when she wasn’t there, and it was only when she was that it went wrong. I don’t know how she finds out but please, Your Majesty, give me another chance, and I won’t fail. Sailor Moon will never know this time!”
“You said that the last time and the time before that, and she still discovered and defeated your plots,” Queen Beryl said, amused by how pathetic and desperate he was to keep his worthless life.
“That is true, but I’ve discovered something about the humans if Your Grace wishes to hear it,” Jadeite blubbered.
Well, she could use a good laugh. “Proceed,” she said.
“From my research on humankind, especially those in the country we’re targeting, the guardians of younger humans emphasize their academic abilities, and we can exploit this. I even scouted out a potential base while Derella was trying to gather energy for our Great Queen. Please, Your Majesty! Allow me another chance, or you can siphon some of my energy for our Great Queen.”
Queen Beryl stroked her chin. Hm…Jadeite made a good argument for once. And if he fails, well, then Queen Beryl can just take his energy. “Alright then, but remember, I will ensure our Great Queen gets her energy one way or another.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Jadeite said as he kneeled before leaving the great throne room.
Queen Beryl smirked as she watched him exit. Jadeite was such a fool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You are not to leave this room for any other reason than school until I see above 60%!” Usagi’s mom cried as she held up a history test with a huge, ugly 41% scrawled across the top of the page in bright red ink.
“But mom-!” Usagi whined loudly as she sat in the middle of her bedroom floor, bawling huge tears.
“But nothing!” her mom continued. “First, you bring home a 30%, and then we find you sneaking out to go who knows where and joining a contest that nearly got Naru seriously hurt instead of studying and making sure to keep your grades up! So until I start seeing real improvement, you are not allowed to go to the Crown or hang out with your friends,” her mom took a deep breath.
“But mom-!” Usagi continued crying. “I’m trying!”
“Have you even cracked open a book once today?” her mom asked in her mom's stance, folded arms and all. Usagi’s blush turned deep as she had opened a book at all today but instead had fallen asleep in class, which infuriated Sakurada-sensei and sent her to stand outside her classroom. Then she went to the Crown after school with Naru and Umino. “Exactly,” her mom continued before taking a deep breath. “I’ll bring you up for dinner, but you must take care of your homework and classwork. Your father and I don’t want you falling behind.” With that, Ikuko quietly closed the door, leaving the sad Usagi to haul herself over to her stupid desk to study for stupid school, leaving a trail of tears.
However, just as she was about to open her history textbook, the paw of a certain black feline stopped her. “Usagi, we have to focus on the task at hand,” Luna said disapprovingly.
“I was just about to until you stopped me,” Usagi said, annoyed.
“I’m not talking about your schoolwork. I’m talking about the princess and her crystal and guardians,” Luna continued. “It feels like you haven’t even attempted to search for them at all, and our enemies are growing stronger each day.”
“No offense, Luna, but they can’t be that strong since I’ve defeated every one of their goons before they could cause any real harm,” Usagi asked as she tried to pull her huge textbook away from Luna who just threw it onto the ground with impressive strength. “Hey!”
However, Luna didn’t listen to her cries of indignation. “Usagi, just because you defeated some of their youmas doesn’t mean you can take them all on, and you didn’t defeat that Dark General when you were face-to-face with him. We also don’t know how much energy they’ve collected or how close they are to finding the Moon Princess. It was honestly through sheer luck we happened onto their schemes so far, but that might not continue if we leave it up to chance.”
Usagi sighed before saying, “I get what you’re saying, Luna, but I can’t do anything if Mama decides to keep me grounded. Besides, I probably would’ve had more time to study and find all these people if I didn’t have to moondust youmas every other night.” That might of been a small lie on Usagi’s part since she had never been good at studying even before she was Sailor Moon, but she definitely hasn’t gotten better now that she was. That and her oversleeping habits, but could you blame her? Being a superhero was so hard in reality! And she isn’t mainly alone. Usagi glanced over to the beautiful red rose still sitting in its vase on her desk, and a blush came to her pale cheeks. Well, not completely alone. “Hey, Luna. Do you think Tuxedo Mask was one of these guardians?”
Luna gave a small look of annoyance before saying, “He couldn’t be. The princess’s guardians were all females.”
“How do you know that?” Usagi asked.
“I just know,” Luna said, sounding only half-sure. That didn’t seem very convincing to Usagi. “Besides, I already told you that trusting him could be bad.”
“But he saved me,” Usagi countered.
“He could be just trying to use you as a means to an end. For all we know, he’s allied to our enemy and they stage these entire rescues together,” Luna continued, distrust and anger obvious in her voice. However, this only made Usagi mad.
“I don’t believe that. Tuxedo Mask has come to my rescue so many times; each time, it gave me the strength to fight on! Heck, he bandaged my ankle when he could’ve just left me there,” Usagi angrily said.
“We still don’t know his intentions, though; getting too close to him could be disastrous in the long run,” Luna continued.
“Who really are these enemies we’re fighting anyway? I know they said they belong to the Dark Kingdom and that general and keep mentioning something about a ‘Great Queen,’ but I’m not sure what any of that means,” Usagi asked. Everything lately has just been so darn confusing.
“All I know is that allowing them to stay on this planet will mean disaster for this world and everyone who lives on it, including your friends and family,” Luna said.
“Well, do you know what the princess or the guardians look like since you haven’t exactly given me much to go on?” Usagi asked again.
“I’ll know, so don’t worry,” Luna continued.
Usagi gave a questioning look before thinking back to when she and Luna first met. Luna did recognize her as Sailor Moon after Usagi took that stupid bandage off her forehead, so maybe it won’t be that much different with the other guardians? “Fine. But I need to study tonight,” Usagi said as she bent down to grab her textbook and ripped it open to chapter four. It may be hard, long, difficult, and unyielding for Usagi, but she will accomplish this task! For her friends! For the Crown! For her precious video games! Oh…and for the princess and the guardians. Those too.
“Well, alright. Continue with your st-” Luna didn’t even get to finish her sentence when she heard a loud thud at Usagi’s desk. Worried, Luna spun around and saw…Usagi, fast asleep, drooling all over her textbook.
Luna sighed in defeat.
They were never going to find those guardians at this rate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usagi loudly yawned as she was about to enter her class. She had gotten basically no sleep last night since she had to spend it studying to get a good grade in the class. Unfortunately, all that studying seemed to do was make her tired and give her a headache. This had to be proof that studying was secretly evil and just some cruel way of torturing beautiful and innocent children.
“Usagi!” Luna whispered from inside her school bag. Oh yeah, and then there’s that. Luna insisted that she come along today in case of youmas trying to drain energy from people. However, “Can you stop walking so fast? I’m about to be seasick in here,” carrying cats in schoolbags proved more difficult than they first thought.
“Sh…Luna someone will hear you and I’m not supposed to be bringing my cat to school,” Usagi whispered back, bringing her bag to her mouth as not to be seen. “And it’s not like you had to ride in my bag.”
“Well, this was the only way to sneak me into your class and keep an eye out for youmas,” Luna continued.
“Why couldn’t you have just followed me or something?” Usagi asked.
“More risk of getting caught and thrown out,” Luna said without a care.
“And this isn’t? At least with the following thing, I won’t get in trouble,” Usagi angrily demanded. When did she become the voice of reason? She didn’t like it.
“Usagi-chan?” a familiar female voice asked. Usagi and Luna nearly had a heart attack at hearing the voice and Usagi quickly shoved her bag behind her back so there was no way that Naru could she was talking to the cat in her bag. “Why were you just talking to your bag?” Naru asked. No! She knew!
“Uh…I…um…An ant?” Usagi said before giving the worst fake smile known to mankind. She could just hear Luna smacking her forehead in disbelief.
“Ok?” Naru said. She was clearly not convinced but not really caring since she said, “You’ve gotta see this!” as she grabbed Usagi by the hand and roughly dragged her inside the classroom, causing Usagi (and Luna) to yelp. The first thing the blonde teenager realized about the class was the commotion they were making and how they were all crowding the wall behind Sakurada-sensei’s desk and talking about something though Usagi couldn’t quite make out what the others were saying. This was also when Usagi realized this is where Naru was dragging her to. They managed to push and shove the other students out of the way until they were at the front, where Usagi saw Umino frothing in anger with his face all red and Usagi could’ve sworn she saw steam coming from his ears. What was his problem?
“What’s going on?” Usagi asked Naru.
“Some evil, heinous witch took my place at the top of the class!” Umino growled with anger and hatred.
“Wh-what?” Usagi said out loud, very confused.
“The mock exams came out today, and this girl got the highest score in the whole school,” Usagi’s black-haired classmate Yumiko said, pointing to the name at the very top of the list, which read Mizuno Ami. Mizuno Ami? “Who’s Mizuno Ami?” Usagi asked out loud. She’d never met a girl with that name before. Then again, she could just be new.
“She’s just some smart snob who happens to be loaded,” Yumiko said with a shrug.
“And she managed to score higher than me,” Umino continued to whine from the background, now in tears. “This girl has to have an IQ of 300 or something!”
“Not surprising. I was in the same class as her last year, and all she did was study and look down her nose at everyone else,” Yumiko continued.
“How do you know that’s all she did?” Usagi asked with her head tilted. For some reason, Usagi didn’t like hearing Yumiko talk about this Mizuno girl like that.
“Well, I never saw her with anyone, so I don’t think she had any friends,” Yumiko answered.
“Mizuno Ami?” Another voice piped up this time. This time, it was Kuri, another classmate with short brown hair and brown eyes. “Wait, isn’t she that girl who goes to that crazy famous cram school or something.”
“Yup. I bet her mom just bought her way in since she’s a doctor,” Yumiko responded.
“I didn’t know we had someone like that in our class,” Usagi said.
“She probably went on some super fancy vacation or something. Probably assuming that the rest of us peasants have to go to school while she can just breeze right on through,” Yumiko said with a bit of bitterness. Why did Yumiko know so much about Mizuno Ami anyway?
“Wow. It must be great to be so smart and rich,” Naru said with stars in her eyes as she stared at the name on the paper, Mizuno Ami.
“You know the teacher will be here soon, and I don’t think she’d want you all out of your seats.” The new voice shocked the crowd and Usagi away from the paper as every one of the students whipped around to see a girl that Usagi had never seen before. She was a pale girl about their age wearing the typical sailor uniform that every girl at Juban Middle School was assigned. However, the blue in the uniform perfectly matched the navy blue of her short hair and the azure blue of her eyes. Blue was definitely her color. However, Usagi felt a ping of familiarity in her chest as she stared at the girl. That was weird. She didn’t even know this girl…Right?
Usagi couldn’t dwell on this much as the girl turned away from the group and took her seat at a desk in the front row and started to remove her books and supplies from her bag elegantly. Usagi never realized you could do that elegantly. Usually, she just dumps everything out onto her desk and searches through the mess.
“See, I told you she was a snob,” she heard Yumiko whisper to Kuri, who agreed. That was Mizuno Ami? Usagi looked back at the girl who was now quietly reading some really hard-looking book with a lot of pages and gave a questioning look. She didn’t seem like a snob, at least to Usagi. A little bit of a stickler for the rules but not snobby. She honestly seemed more sad than anything if her face had anything to say.
“Good morning, class,” Usagi heard Sakurada’s voice from the doorway. “If you’d all be so kind as to take your seats so we can begin today’s lesson.” The class all did as she asked without much complaint. However, Usagi noticed that everyone focused on Mizuno Ami instead of today’s lesson.
Including someone she didn’t expect.
“Keep an eye on that girl.” It was Luna who said that.
Usagi was just about to harshly shush Luna for trying to get her in trouble when the reality of what she said finally struck her. “Why?”
“I just sense something strange around her, and with our enemies attacking the city, it would be in our best interest to be on guard,” Luna whispered back.
Usagi looked back up at the girl, Mizuno Ami, quietly writing in her notebook. “Are you really sure, Luna? She doesn’t seem that bad,” Usagi replied.
“How many times have you fallen into the Youma’s traps?” Luna asked back with a raised eyebrow and an annoyed look.
Usagi gave a very embarrassed blush and a huge grimace on her face before she peeked back at Mizuno-chan. “All I’m saying is that-”
“Tsukino Usagi!” Uh oh! “Since you’d rather be talking to your bag, I can only assume you already know the answer to this question,” Sakurada-sensei said before pointing to a super hard math question with a fraction and parentheses and letters (seriously what are letters doing in math anyway!?)
“Uh…” Usagi said, trying to make sense of the evil problem in front of her.
“The answer, ma’am, is -18,” the voice of Mizuno Ami softly said.
“And how did you reach that answer, Mizuno-san?” Sakurada-sensei said, turning her attention towards Mizuno Ami, now staring down at her hands.
“It’s not that hard. Once you divide the distribution and multiply it by a fraction, x has to be -18 logically,” Mizuno Ami whispered.
“That’s correct,” Sakurada-sensei replied with an impressed smile. “Well done, Mizuno-san.”
Mizuno Ami quietly nodded before going back to her notebook. However, Usagi just stared in wonderment. She didn’t see Mizuno Ami pick up a pen or anything so did she just solve that problem in her head? How was that possible?! Was she a cyborg or something? That was the only thing Usagi could think of for someone to be able to do the math so quickly. Stranger than that was the fact that Mizuno-chan helped Usagi. Why, though? Usagi could tell she wasn’t a snob but she also seemed very quiet and shy so why help Usagi?
Usagi stared at the back of the blue-haired girl’s head.
Maybe Luna was right about keeping an eye on her.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m never going to be able to leave my room,” Usagi says to Luna, staring with anger, hatred, and sadness at the evil piece of paper in her hand. The school day had just ended, and somehow, by some miracle, Luna wasn’t discovered. Sure, there were a few close calls, like at lunch when Luna meowed for Usagi to go spy on Mizuno-chan, which nearly alerted Naru to her existence so Usagi had to rush to the bathroom to silence her or during class when Haruna-sensei was staring her down for her homework and was just about to grab her bag but thankfully Usagi just blurted out that her cat ate it. This got a lot of confused looks, but it worked, though her teacher looked thoroughly done with her and her excuses. That made Usagi sad, by the way. However, she was not as sad as she was now. “How am I ever going to show this to my mom?” Usagi asked herself as she imagined her mother with sharp teeth and looking very angry and evil as she loudly yelled about how Usagi could’ve done this badly on all her subjects.
“There are more important things to worry about, Usagi,” Luna said as she poked her head out of Usagi’s bag. “Like-” Luna stops before jumping out of Usagi’s bag and running away onto the school’s wall.
“Luna!” Usagi calls out as she quickly chases after the cat, only to see her land on top of Mizuno-chan’s shoulders. It looked like she had been reading a textbook when Luna landed on her because there was a book on the ground, and she looked super surprised by the cat. Then again, people don’t usually expect to see cats while leaving school.
“I am so sorry!” Usagi cried out quickly and genuinely, meaning it. It’s one thing to spy on someone, it’s another to jump on them while they’re walking. “My cat can be a little…um…friendly?” Usagi hoped she bought it.
“I-It’s okay. Though I don’t think you’re supposed to be bringing pets to school,” Mizuno-chan said as she gently grabbed Luna off her shoulders and handed her to Usagi with a gentle pet to her head.
“Please don’t tell! I’m already grounded and probably dead because of my report card, and if my mom finds out about Luna coming to school, I’ll be double dead!” Usagi frantically said while crying a bit, which scared Mizuno-chan or at least startled her if her face was any indication.
“I-It’s okay. I won’t tell,” Mizuno-chan said. “Honestly, when she fell like that, I thought she was an angel.”
An angel of hell, maybe. “Oh…Well, I am super, duper sorry for her,” Usagi said while bowing repeatedly.
“It’s alright,” Mizuno-chan said again. “My name’s Mizuno Ami.”
“I know! I saw your name on the board in class. You’ve gotta be like a genius or something!” Usagi said with genuine kindness, though it only embarrassed Mizuno-chan. Did Usagi say something wrong?
“I wouldn’t say that. I just study a lot, so I know many things,” Mizuno-chan said in a small, awkward voice. Aw, she’s cute!
“Well, maybe you could teach me some of those things,” Usagi said as she looked back at her evil, Usagi-hating report card before showing the paper to Mizuno-chan. “I kind of suck at school.”
Mizuno-chan looked in shock at some of the things Usagi failed in. “How did you fail at Japanese History?”
“I’m kind of asleep during it,” Usagi said as she awkwardly scratched her neck.
“Well, that certainly doesn’t help your chances of succeeding in the class,” Mizuno-chan answered.
“Anyways,” Usagi said, grabbing her report and throwing it into her bag, “I was just going to head to the Crown Arcade.” This caused Luna to stiffen in Usagi’s arms before looking at her with a shocked look, which Usagi noticed but chose to ignore. “And I was wondering if you’d like to come with me.”
“Y-you want me to come with you?” Mizuno-chan asked, looking severely shocked by Usagi’s invitation.
“Sure! It’ll be fun!” Usagi said with a smile.
“But I don’t even know your name,” Mizuno-chan said as gave a bit of an awkward smile.
Did she give her name? “Well, it’s Tsukino Usagi,” Usagi said, holding out her hand for Mizuno-chan to shake,, which she awkwardly did by grabbing a single finger and shaking it. Usagi ignored that, too as she said, “It’ll be super fun! They have games and food and milkshakes!”
Mizuno-chan paused momentarily before saying, “I suppose I have time before my cram school starts…”
“Great!” Usagi said before walking ahead and making a ‘follow me’ motion towards Mizuno-chan.
However, Luna was still very confused by what was happening. “What are you doing? Don’t you remember what I said? Aren’t you also worried about your mother?” she asked.
“You were the one who wanted to keep an eye on her, and what better way to keep an eye than to become her friend? As for my mother, I don’t think she’d be too mad if I became friends with a genius girl who could tutor me on all my tests and assignments. I might even be able to become a genius girl, too! Bwahaha!” Usagi said with a bit of an evil cackle. She was pretty sure she grew an evil tail and horns, too.
“Why are you laughing like that and talking to your cat?” Mizuno-chan asked, looking at her strangely
“Uh…No reason! The Crown awaits!” Usagi said before grabbing her by the arm and dragging her to the Crown.
“Motoki onii-san!” Usagi loudly cried out as she entered the Crown with her new companion.
“Hey, Usagi-chan!” Motoki Onii-san said as he finished serving a couple of teenagers at the counter. “Care for a milkshake?”
“Two actually! One for me and one for Mizuno-chan here,” Usagi said as she pointed to the blue-haired girl, who blushed before trying to hide her face. Huh…weird.
“Is this a new friend of yours?” Motoki asked with a super charming smile.
“Hopefully! We actually just met today,” Usagi said, giving the most adorable smile.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mizuno-chan,” Motoki said, turning towards Mizuno-chan with the same smile which made Usagi visibly jealous. How dare one of her crushes to notice another girl? “How about some complimentary milkshakes on behalf of Mizuno-chan’s first visit?”
“Oh no. I couldn-” Mizuno-chan began before Usagi slammed the palm of her head against the blunette’s mouth.
“She would love a free milkshake, and so would I!” Usagi declared with great joy.
Motoki gave a bit of an awkward smile before saying, “Well…uh…Great! Let me go get started on those milkshakes for you guys.” He then left to go into the back of the kitchen.
Usagi turned to Mizuno-chan, “Isn’t he awesome?! And super nice, too!”
“Well…um, yes but don’t you think we should’ve paid for those milkshakes?” Mizuno-chan said, obviously unsure about what just happened.
“Like I said Motoki Onii-san is super nice and always does stuff like that. Besides, you need to save your yen!” Usagi cried out before dragging Mizuno-chan over to a specific arcade machine. “This is the Sailor V video game!” Usagi cried out as she showed the incredible game to Mizuno-chan, who just stared.
“Oh, um…that’s nice,” she said, twiddling with her fingers.
“Do you wanna give it a try?” Usagi asked with excitement in her voice.
“I don’t know how to play,” Mizuno-chan shrugged. However, to Usagi, that was no excuse.
Without another word, she grabbed Mizuno-chan’s hand to drag her over to the machine and sat her down. “While it can be super hard, it's pretty easy to get the hang of. These buttons let you move and these buttons let you use your wand. See simple!” Then, without another word from the blonde, she fed the machine a yen coin and it started for Ami. “Now, don’t be sad if you don't get it on the first try since even I always get a game over super fast-”
“Hey, look at that girl!” someone yelled out from a crowd now starting to form around her and Mizuno-chan. What the-?
Pew…Pew…Pew…Tap…Tap…Tap… Usagi spun around and couldn’t believe what she was seeing! On the screen was Mizuno-chan, already on the next level! On her first try! That took Usagi like eight tries just to get! It didn’t even take her that long!
Usagi stared as her jaw hit the floor since Mizuno-chan seemed to have a razor-sharp focus on beating the game. Enemies went down in seconds, bosses were barely a challenge, every jump was made perfectly, and the score just kept rising! And Mizuno-chan never played before?! She wasn’t just super smart; she was a prodigy at video games!
WINNER! The game loudly declared as the crowd cheered in the background while the defeated body of Tsukino Usagi lay crushed on the floor.
“Uh…Tsukino-chan, are you alright?” Mizuno-chan quietly asked the broken secret heroine
Said the secret heroine, jumping to her feet before grabbing Mizuno-chan and shaking her while screaming, “TEACH ME YOUR WAYS! I MUST KNOW!”
“I’d…love…to…if…stop…shaking…me!” Mizuno-chan pleaded as she gently tried to pull Usagi’s hands off her shoulders.
“Oh, sorry,” Usagi said, quickly removing her hands. However, she still adamantly said, “I’ve been trying to beat this game for a couple of weeks now, and I always end up with a game over and an empty purse.”
“Oh, well I…” Mizuno-chan began, obviously a little awkward about the whole encounter.
“Usagi-chan, Mizuno-chan, your milkshakes are ready,” Motoki Onii-san called from the counter.
“Maybe we can talk more after,” Mizuno-chan offered, to which Usagi happily agreed. In less than a minute, the two had gotten their milkshakes and took place at a secluded booth so Usagi could learn all of Mizuno-chan’s ways of getting good grades and beating good games.
“So spill it!” Usagi said as she put her milkshake down a bit rougher than she thought, making a bit of chocolate splash onto the table. However, there was no time for that. “How did you beat the game on your first try? It can’t just be beginner’s luck.”
“Of course not. I just used the same method of logical deduction that I use for academics on the game,” Mizuno-chan revealed as she took lady-like sips of her milkshake, which stood in stark contrast to Usagi’s huge gulps and half-empty shake.
“Like in class earlier?” Usagi asked.
“Exactly,” Mizuno-chan replied. “Being logical is how I solve all my problems, except for…” she didn’t finish as she took a long sip of her milkshake.
Usagi thought back to what happened today and could probably guess what it was from the sad expression on her face. “I-I…wanted to thank you,” the blonde said as she set her milkshake down. “You really rescued me this morning.”
Mizuno-chan looked up at Usagi before saying, “Well…you seemed like you were having trouble, and I just knew the answer anyway.”
“Yeah, but it was super nice of you anyway,” Usagi continued. “I would’ve been super embarrassed if you didn’t.”
“Well, you’re welcome then,” Mizuno-chan said in response. The two teenage girls then quietly sipped at their drinks as Usagi stared at Mizuno-chan. She knows what her classmates said. She knows that Luna’s suspicious of her. However, Usagi had a feeling that Mizuno-chan wasn’t a snob or an enemy and so far Usagi had been proven right. She seemed really, really sweet. “Oh no!” Mizuno-chan cried out as she glanced at a watch around her wrist. “I’ll be late,” she said, quickly grabbing her bag and leaving some yen on the table.
“Wait…what?” Usagi asked as she stood up. Where did all that come from?
“I’m sorry,” Mizuno-chan said, respectfully bowing to Usagi. “I have to go to my cram school now but thank you for the milkshake and the game.”
“Cram school?” Usagi asked, horrified by those words. Why would you ever want to do more school after just going to school?
“Yeah. Sorry! Bye!” With that, Mizuno-chan raced away from Usagi and out the door. Usagi and even Luna (who popped her head out of Usagi’s bag) were shocked at how quickly Mizuno-chan took that; for a minute, they just stared at the door until something shone in Usagi’s eye. What the heck? She looked down to see a blue floppy disk lying on the floor. Curious, Usagi bent down and grabbed the disk with the words Property of Crystal Seminar. Crystal Seminar? Wait…was this? Was this Ami-chan’s?!
Usagi quickly raced out of the Crown to see if she could catch up to Mizuno-chan to return the disk. However, she was already gone.
At this point, Usagi was in full panic mode. What was she going to do? What was Mizuno-chan going to do now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ami carefully sorted her materials and school supplies next to the computer. Her mother always told her that being organized was the first step to success—that and punctuality, of course.
Her need for punctuality was why she had to leave so abruptly despite how kindly Tsukino-chan treated her today. Ami looked down at her lap. She quietly prayed that Tsukino-chan wasn’t offended by how quickly she left. In truth, Ami had no sense of etiquette for a situation she had just experienced because other people, especially students, tended to avoid her and then talk about her behind her back. She knew that, logically, she shouldn’t care what others think. She knew that logically, in the grand scheme of things, their opinions shouldn’t and wouldn’t matter. She knew what her mother would say, that they were simply jealous of her intelligence and that trying to fit in with an unappeasible crowd is the pathway to ruin. Despite all this, though, Ami still felt and still wanted to have friends outside her family. She stared at her reflection on the black screen and wondered, was it indeed so difficult for her want to come true? To be able to be friends with someone else without being judged?
“Greetings, class.” It seemed there wasn’t any more time to ponder her thoughts as the class’s instructor, Garo-sensei, finally arrived. Ami didn’t know much about Garo-sensei, not even her name - not that it mattered, she supposed - or why she suddenly took over for their former sensei, Yusuke-sensei. She knew the official reason was that Yusuke-sensei suddenly quit without explanation, and while that could be logical…Ami couldn’t help but wonder. Yusuke-sensei never seemed unhappy with their position and enjoyed their work. It was also a bit strange they just suddenly found a new teacher in a matter of days it seems. Then again, it might’ve been sooner they found her. Ami had just arrived home in the mountains with her father after a week. However, something about the situation still seemed strange. “Mizuno-chan,” she heard a voice. It was Garo-sensei.
“Y-yes, Garo-sensei,” embarrassment prevalent in the meek voice she managed to utter and her cheeks were now a vibrant crimson. How could she let herself get caught in her thoughts?
“Do you have the disk?” Garo-sensei said, her bright smile still on her pale face but her chocolate eyes unreadable.
“Th-the disk?” Ami asked in a way that was very much unlike herself.
“The Crystal Disk that was handed out to the class yesterday,” Garo-sensei replied in a sweet voice, her smile never breaking as she started to run her fingers through Ami’s lazuli-colored hair, which made Ami feel somewhat tense. “You do have it, right? I’d hate to have such a bright and promising student fall behind for such a minor infraction.”
Ami looked down with a strange emotion rising from chest to throat. “I-I sh-should,” Ami said with a slight quiver as she hastily pulled up her bag. Now that her mind was slightly clearer, she remembered that she had put her diskette into the front pocket of her school bag after Garo-sensei handed it out to the class after yesterday’s lesson. Yesterday’s lesson? What was yesterday’s lesson anyway?
Gh. A twinge of pain assaulted Ami’s mind as she tried to think back. It felt like a horse’s kick. What was happening? Did she suddenly develop a migraine? That couldn’t be it, though. She wasn’t feeling sensitive to lights and sounds or displaying any other symptoms associated with the disorder; it was only when she started thinking of…Gh!
There it was again.
“Mizuno-san!” it was Garo-sensei’s voice. “Do you have the diskette or not?”
“Y-yes,” Ami said as her migraine suddenly disappeared. She would wonder a bit more about this, but she also knew her instructor was becoming impatient by her unintentional insolence. Guilt started spreading throughout her body as she dug through her first pocket, but that guilt soon transformed into horror.
Her diskette wasn’t there!
Ami felt her eyes widen. She knew she put it in her front pocket!
Perhaps it had fallen into another pocket! She searched through the rest of her bag, but it wasn’t in the back pocket or her side pockets either. It was just gone.
Panic was rising throughout her body. How could this have happened? Ami knew she had put the diskette in her bag this morning! Where could it have gone!? No. No. Ami knew better than to overreact to inconsequential events. She might not have her diskette now, but she can search for it later or receive another. All she needed to do was explain the situation in a calm and steady tone of voice.
“Forgive me, sensei,” Ami began, careful to choose which words would leave her mouth and in what tone, “it seems, I’ve forgotten my diskette at home.” The air felt colder at that moment and when Ami saw her instructor’s face, a chill ran up her spine.
She was still smiling but there was something…off. Ami knew that was a rude thing to say about an authoritative figure but she couldn’t lie either. The smile felt forced and even a bit cruel and the look in Garo-sensei’s eyes was worse. Cold and sharp as a blade that seemed to cut into Ami’s soul. Frankly, they didn’t feel human.
Ami gulped. Maybe she was just being foolish. This was her instructor after all. Of course, she’d be displeased by the fact that the supposed prize student of the school didn’t do something as simple as bring a vital piece of her studying into school so it would only be logical that Garo-sensei would feel frustration and irritation towards Ami. Hopefully, it was still somehow possible to mend the current situation.
Ami took a deep breath before bowing her head in reverence and mentally steadying her words inside her mind before carefully releasing them out into the world. “Garo-sensei. I’m terribly sorry but I’d be happy to self-study or…”
“That diskette is imperative to today’s lesson,” Garo-sensei said in a voice without a hint of empathy and dripped with venom.
“Maybe I could have a replacement?” Ami weakly asked in a small voice.
“I didn’t make extra because I expected my students to be smart enough not to lose them,” Garo-sensei replied as her words cut Ami like a knife. Was she saying Ami wasn’t smart enough? Ami supposed her teacher was making a reasonable assumption given the current situation but…it still made Ami sad to hear. “And since didn’t bring the required materials, I will have no choice but to exclude you from this lesson so for the duration, please stand in the hall.”
Ami silently nodded and stood, as she felt the eyes of her peers. Pity? Happiness? Mocking? A mix? She didn’t know. She just knew that she had to keep her head high and her eyes staring straight ahead. Other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter.
One bad day won’t destroy her. It didn’t destroy her mother. It won’t destroy Ami. She’ll fix this.
She left the room.
It didn’t matter.
Other people’s opinions didn’t matter.
Ami knew this. Logically, Ami knew this.
So…why…were tears coming from her eyes?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usagi was in frantic mode right now. She usually was but right now it was super frantic mode as she narrowly avoided falling into the street, into buildings, into people.
Unfortunately, that last thing was utterly unsuccessful. Instead, all she did was bump into a random passerby and the force of hitting them caused her to land on her rump.
“Ow!” Usagi whined as she rubbed said bruised rump. “Ugh…Why is this Crystal Seminar thing so hard to find!?”
“Well, maybe because you’ve been running in a straight line instead of watching where you’re going?” Luna whispered as softly as she could. “We really shouldn’t be doing-”
“Odango Atama?” a familiar male voice rang out, interrupting Luna and making the two look up to see that across from them was HIM!
“You! Where did you come from?!” Usagi demanded as she quickly stood to make herself seem taller. However, the baka didn’t answer. He wasn’t even looking at Usagi, which was just very rude in her opinion and just made her more annoyed. How dare this baka not look at her?! “Well?!”
“Your cat…” he said instead of an answer to her very reasonable question, “has a very interesting bald spot.”
Usagi stared at him momentarily and saw his sapphire-blue eyes staring deeply into Luna’s before flashing towards Usagi, who felt frozen by his stare. Those sharp sapphire-blue eyes pierced her cornflower-blue eyes with such intensity that it almost felt like she was being scanned. It felt so…so…
“What’s your problem, baka?” Usagi said as she ignored the bright red stain that had emerged on her face as her heart pounded in her chest. “And stop staring at my cat!”
“Who were you talking to Odango Atama?” the baka asked as he rose to his feet, those darn sapphire-blue eyes still staring deep into her soul.
Usagi and Luna felt their jaws drop as panic started to rush through their bodies. Did he…did he…did he HEAR Luna talk? Usagi quickly gave a very loud and very obviously fake laugh, “Wh-what are you t-talking?! No one was talking?! I was just talking to myself! That’s all! Nobody else!”
“No one was talking but you were talking to yourself?” the baka asked raising an eyebrow to show that he in no way believed her story.
“Y-yes,” Usagi said while staring straight at him. There was no way she would let this jerk find out that Luna was actually a magical, talking alien cat. What if he found out and told someone and they decided to abduct Luna and perform evil experiments on her?! The flash of Luna tied to a laboratory table with evil scientists crowding around her with sharp tools and drills invaded Usagi’s mind and from the look on Luna’s face, Luna’s too.
“I heard someone speak. Another female and I know it wasn’t your voice, odango atama, so who else could it be?” the jerk continued as he stared deeply into her eyes and his face became very close to hers before those darn eyes shifted over to Luna’s. “Was it your cat?”
“I…uh! AHHHHH!” Usagi ran as fast as humanly possible away from him. Usagi didn’t know what else to do in that situation. That darn baka. His assumptions. Those darn eyes! Now, he might know that Luna can talk!
Usagi didn’t know when she stopped but knew she was far away enough to take a breath after a non-stop sprint. She could still feel her heart in her ears and she could still see her enemy's deep, sapphire-blue eyes staring at her with such intensity. She also remembers how close his face had been to hers. So close… Heat began to blossom on Usagi’s face.
“Usagi!” Luna cried through her teeth.
Usagi snapped out of her thoughts and stared at Luna whose eyes were filled with worry. “Do you think he knows about you?”
“It’s possible and even likely, but that’s a bridge we can burn another day. We need to focus on that Mizuno girl now,” Luna said.
“What if she’s not our enemy, though? You would make me look like a creep for no reason,” Usagi said, throwing up her arms.
“We need to cover all our bases, and even if she’s not, she gives off a strange energy that I would like to know more about,” Luna replied. “We should also check what’s on that diskette in case it has some clues.”
Usagi stared into Luna’s determined red eyes and realized there was no changing the cat’s mind, loudly sighed. “I guess if we hurry we could go to the computer lab at my school.”
Luna beamed at Usagi before grabbing the diskette with her teeth and gesturing at the blonde to follow her before she took off in the direction of the school. All Usagi in the meanwhile did was loudly sigh before dragging her feet. She could tell Mizuno-chan was a good person so why didn’t Luna?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After like 25 to 30 minutes, the pair made it back to the school without too much trouble, and thankfully, the computer lab was empty. Usagi sat at the far back as Luna put the diskette into a machine. The blonde teenager turned to the cat and said, “Just to warn you, I don’t really know much about computers,” Usagi admitted before she started messing with the keyboard hoping at least one button turn on the computer. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t. Luna visibly facepalmed before she scratched at Usagi to move who said, “I told you I don’t know much about computers.” Luna only loudly sighed as she started to tap on the keyboard in a much less chaotic motion than Usagi and the computer roared to life. Or at least they think.
It was indeed on but the screen was still black. Usagi stared at Luna for a moment when Give yourself to me. What? “Luna, di-” Give yourself to me. What? Was she hallucinating? Usagi looked back at the screen to see the black was now flickering. It was soft, almost soothing as it continued to whisper Give yourself to me. Give herself… Give herself to what? The flickering became stronger and the voice changed as though to answer her question To our great ruler! Join our great queen! Great…Great queen. Join the Great Queen. Join…Give yourself…Join…Give…Join…Give. Join. Give. Join. Give. Join.
Sharp claws clashed with her skin, followed by a voice shouting, “USAGI!” Usagi woke up and looked around her. The computer was off, and the voice was gone. It was just her and Luna alone in the computer room. What was all that? Was she really thinking about giving herself to whoever this ‘great queen’ was? Wait. Great queen? Didn’t the monsters sometimes mention something about a queen they served? Ugh…Her head was pounding, and she felt so weak. “Are you alright?” Luna asked.
“I think so?” Usagi said in an unsure voice. “I heard a voice. It wanted me to give myself to a queen, and if I’m correct, this queen might have something to do with the youmas.”
“You’re probably right, and I’m sure we’ll find more answers if we head to the Crystal Seminar,” Luna said as she jumped and pulled out the evil diskette.
“Do you still think Mizuno-chan has something to do with this?” Usagi asked as she stood up from her chair and followed Luna.
Luna stared up at her with an unreadable expression before bolting out the door.
For her part, Usagi gave a very long sigh. Why won’t Luna trust her on this? Something inside tells her that Mizuno-chan isn’t bad, so why doesn’t Luna listen?
Well, whatever. Right now the important thing was stopping the monsters and their evil queen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pair had sprinted back to the Crystal Seminar building in record time, so instead of making it there in like 30 minutes, they made it in 15. However, this did cause Usagi’s lungs to burn and lean on the building for support. “Usagi! Remember to be on your guard for whatever we find, alright?” Luna said.
However, Usagi was more in the process of breathing heavily and trying not to faint. “Y-yeah…S-sure, Luna…” Usagi managed out between breaths. Luna could do nothing more than facepalm at the sad state of her charge. As Usagi caught her breath and her panting became quieter, she heard something. It was super quiet so even she wasn’t sure how she could hear it but she did and it sounded like…crying? Who was crying? And why?
“Usagi?” Luna asked, but Usagi ignored her as she bolted into the building. Who was crying? Usagi looked around the super expensive-looking entryway when she heard that crying again. It was coming from the hallway, she realized. “Usagi?” Luna asked again. It seemed like she had followed her in, but Usagi ignored her again as she ran into the hallway. Who was crying?
She looked around until she saw a huddled ball of a person by the third door on the left. She had blue hair and seemed to be wearing Usagi’s school uniform. Wait a minute…MIZUNO-CHAN!
“Mizuno-chan!” Usagi called out, which seemed to momentarily shock the bluenette, who was stunned by Usagi’s sudden appearance before it turned into embarrassment. Quickly, Mizuno-chan wiped her face of tears before giving a weak smile to Usagi.
“Tsukino-chan? Why are you here?” Mizuno-chan asked as she struggled to put on a stoic and dignified face, but it looked like it could crack at any second.
“I…” Usagi began, feeling like she could cry at seeing the broken look on Mizuno-chan’s face. “Are you alright?”
Mizuno-chan sniffled a bit and her eyes began to fill with tears before quickly saying, “I’m fine. I just got in trouble with the instructor, that’s all.”
“It doesn’t seem like it,” Usagi said with empathy. She, out of anyone, would know what it’s like to be stuck in the hallway after being in trouble. “What happened?”
“It was my fault. I-I lost a diskette I was supposed to use for class and so the teacher got rightfully angry at me,” Mizuno-chan said with a look of shame and heartbreak.
Usagi stared at the broken and guilt-ridden face of the blue-haired girl. It was so different from her logical, strong, and even stoic face from earlier. It made Usagi want to cry with her. However, that’s not what Mizuno-chan needed then. “I don’t think so,” Usagi said, smiling. “Besides, you’re super smart, so who cares if some mean old teacher kicks you out over something so stupid?”
“I CARE!” Mizuno-chan loudly yelled, which shocked both Usagi and Luna. “All my life, my mom taught me to be respectful to and obey my instructors and teachers and to be logical and always use my intellect to get ahead in this world, but now here I am, missing my entire class and disappointing my mom because I couldn’t do something as simple as remember a stupid diskette! I’m supposed to be the smartest! The best at school! I have to be…” Mizuno-chan fell to her knees again, her hands covering her face.
Pain and guilt hit Usagi. Looking back at her own life, Usagi had it easy regarding grades. Whenever she came back with a bad grade, at most, her mom would lock her up in her room to study or kick her out for an hour, but she was never stressed to the point of breaking down because she forgot something. Did Mizuno-chan always feel this way? Usagi remembers the harsh words people spat about the bluenette this morning, her being a ‘teacher’s pet’ and ‘only caring about studying’ and how Mizuno-chan heard it all. It must’ve made her feel even lonelier and stressed out than she already was. Then you have Usagi, who wanted to use her brains to get good grades. She was no better than them, was she? No. She was terrible.
Usagi bent down and pulled out the diskette. “Here you go,” the blonde said against the glares of  Luna. “This is the diskette, right?” Usagi watched Mizuno-chan raise her head as her blue eyes widened upon seeing what was in the blonde’s hand. “You dropped it at the Crown and I tried to follow you but you had already left.”
“Why would you want to help me?” Mizuno-chan asked, generally confused.
Usagi smiled before saying, “Because that’s what friends do. They help and care about each other.” Usagi meant it genuinely.
“You want to be my friend?”
“Of course. You’re very kind and sweet and super smart. Anyone should want to be your friend,” Usagi said as she placed the diskette in Mizuno-chan’s hands.
Mizuno-chan stared at the diskette for a moment before looking at Usagi with wide eyes that were confused, then unsure, before relief flooded into them. Tears welled up in her eyes but these weren’t tears of sadness. These were tears of joy and Mizuno-chan flung herself at Usagi in a tight hug. Usagi was shocked at first but happily returned it.
They both had a new friend.
And Usagi had some unfinished business.
“Mizuno-chan. There’s something you should know about that diskette, though,” Usagi began but was quickly cut off by Ami’s shouts of thank you and rushing feet. Oh no! “Mizuno-chan! Wait! The diskette’s evil!”
However, she had already disappeared into her classroom when Usagi’s words left her mouth. Usagi was about to start running after her when she felt sharp claws on her ankle that sent her spiraling toward the floor. “We can’t go rushing in Usagi!” Luna yelled as Usagi gave her a dirty and angry look. “You should transform into Sailor Moon beforehand; that way, should anything happen in there, we won’t have to worry about being caught.” Unfortunately, Luna made sense but that still didn’t make Usagi any less mad a the cat. That scratch and fall really hurt! However, she could yell at Luna later! Right now, she needed to worry about Mizuno-chan and her class!
“Moon Prism Power MAKE-UP!” Usagi shouted and instantly felt engulfed by her magical henshin as streams of pink ribbons surrounded her body, transforming her normal uniform into her fuku. Power began to surge through her as the strong and awesome sailor senshi of the moon, Sailor Moon, took Usagi’s place.
“Sailor Moon. We need to hurry,” Luna rudely said, interrupting her famous pose.
“O-” Sailor Moon started to say, dejected, when screams rang throughout the hall. Wait a minute. Those screams! Mizuno-chan! Quickly, Sailor Moon raced towards the classroom, where she saw a horrific sight that stopped her dead in her tracks.
Everywhere, as far as the eyes could see, were bodies. Some were slumped over the table while others were laying in misshapen heaps on the ground with lifeless pale skin and bloodshot eyes muttering something about giving themselves to the ‘Great Queen’! However, that wasn’t even the worst part! The worst part was what was going on at one of the desks! Mizuno-chan was struggling to free herself against what seemed to be an invisible chain and screaming in pain as a woman forced her to stare at one of the computer's screens. “Stupid brat! Why can’t you just make my job easy and give yourself to our Queen!” the woman…the thing cried before she violently slapped Mizuno-chan across the face, leaving a prominent red mark across her face! Screams for help and pain faded into whimpers. At first, Sailor Moon could only stare in shock at Mizuno-chan and that evil woman. How could somebody do that? Especially to a kid! That wasn’t right! Sailor Moon clenched her fist. It wasn’t right! And she would do something about it!
“Let her go!” Sailor Moon cried out, which quickly attracted the attention of Mizuno-chan and the evil woman. “How dare you brainwash innocent students with your evil floppy disks and make a super smart girl feel scared and insecure!? I am the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice! I am Sailor Moon, and in the name of the moon, I will punish you!”
“Sailor Moon? I was expecting you,” the evil woman said with a wicked smile before she ripped Mizuno-chan, who screamed bloody murder in fear, from her chair before dragging her kicking and screaming to a rafter in the ceiling.
“Mizuno-chan!” Sailor Moon cried as the monster gave a heinous laugh as their human appearance literally melted away to reveal a creature with blood-red skin on her chest, arms, and head where a strange beetle-like thing sat in the middle of her forehead. The rest of her body, on the other hand, was pitch black that Sailor Moon could’ve sworn that she was wearing a leotard but when she looked a little closer, she saw that it had fur and veins pulsing throughout and that made her skin crawl. Her eyes were completely yellow with only two black slits for pupils and a wild nest of blackish-blue hair. Her long nails turned into sharp claws that she held to Mizuno-chan’s throat that could slit it any minute Sailor Moon didn’t do something! What could she do?!
Sailor Moon looked up at where the youma was gleeful as she leered down at her while poor Mizuno-chan desperately tried to free herself. However, this failed when Mizuno-chan’s neck scraped the monster's sharp claws, drawing a bit of blood. Oh no!
Wait a minute! She was just sitting there…maybe… Sailor Moon touched the red gem on her forehead as she shouted, “Moon Tiara Boomerang!” The command transformed the tiara from a dormant accessory into a powerful weapon Sailor Moon sent flying toward the youma.
However, it would never make contact with the youma. Instead, the youma gave a cruel smirk before it raised its hand, summoning wires and papers that wrapped and twisted themselves around the innocent and brainwashed students, raising them towards the ceiling to act as a messed-up line of defense. Sailor Moon screamed in horror as her tiara sped toward the students. She needed to do something fast!
At the last battle, Luna said she could redirect the tiara if she concentrated. However, she can’t focus on the monster right now! Not with all these kids in the way. Maybe she can will it back to her? Sailor Moon concentrated on the tiara and practically begged it to return to her before it could hit any of those kids. Luckily, just as it was about to drive itself through the neck of a middle school boy, it stopped. Sailor Moon cheered at this…until she noticed the tiara spinning toward her now! And like that, she started running around like a rat on a sinking ship as she continued to be followed by her traitorous weapon while her screams mixed with the vile laughter of the monster, who sounded very amused by Sailor Moon’s suffering.
“Just stop it, Sailor Moon!” Luna shouted on Sailor Moon’s eighth run around.
“Oh right,” Sailor Moon said before turning around to face it and loudly shouting, “STOP!”  This stopped it and returned to its dormant state of being a usual, magical tiara, not a weapon of destruction.
Sailor Moon couldn’t grab it because she felt something metallic and rubbery grab her wrist, and with a loud cry, the superheroine was ripped toward the ceiling as she heard Luna scream, “SAILOR MOON!”
“Let me go!” Sailor Moon yelled out as she tried to free herself with her free hand. Unfortunately, that just got tangled up in the wires as well.
“I’m going to be honest: I expected more from you after your previous victories. Aw well,” the youma said before snapping her claws, and immediately, papers began to float from desks, chairs, and floors and shaped itselves into deadly paper airplanes with razor-sharp tips.
Sailor Moon screamed in fear as she thrashed around, trying desperately to free herself, but the wires only seemed to tighten every time she did. She heard another sickening snap of claws and saw the evil paper airplanes speeding toward her as she kicked around, trying to stop at least a few. However, there was nothing she could do except scream out, “HELP!” And as if on cue, a crimson-red rose came flying through the air and sliced through the wires that held Sailor Moon captive before any of the evil paper planes could cut or slice her up.
However, she still had been hanging from the ceiling and was now failing. Sailor Moon screamed before she realized that she was no longer falling but was instead surrounded by warmth that made her feel safe and protected. Wait, that could only mean! “Tuxedo Mask!” Sailor Moon cried as she looked up to see her beloved masked savior with a handsome smirk on his lips.
“You didn’t believe I would let you fall, right?” he asked in a sultry way that made Sailor Moon blush red-hot. For a moment, Tuxedo Mask stared at Sailor Moon in a way that made her giggle cutely before he turned an ice-cold gaze toward the villain, “How dare you take advantage of innocent schoolchildren who just want to improve their minds and turn them into batteries for your evil ambitions?”
The monster said nothing before giving out a wicked little chuckle. “It seems Sailor Moon’s little boyfriend finally made his entrance.” Wait,   did she just say boyfriend?! Sailor Moon felt a big, goofy smile come to her lips at the thought of Tuxedo Mask being her boyfriend. “I guess this does make it far easier to kill you both,” the monster continued. Wait, kill? Oh, right! There was still in the middle of a battle. Sailor Moon heard a sickening snap of claws, making the paper planes redirect themselves until they launched themselves straight at her and Tuxedo Mask!
“I always knew homework was evil!” Sailor Moon screamed as they sped towards her and Tuxedo Mask. Oh no! Now they will both end up like sliced cheese (…or something)!
However, that didn’t come! She felt a rush of air and saw Tuxedo Mask twirling his cane and warding off the evil paper airplanes. “Quick, Sailor Moon! Use your tiara to take out the monster!”
“I can’t without hurting those innocent people!” Sailor Moon cried as she pointed at the hostages still hanging from the ceiling in a dazed and broken state.
Sailor Moon saw Tuxedo Mask stare at the hostages with an unreadable look before he muttered, “Well, that’s annoying,” under his breath. She had to admit that was a bit of a strange reaction, but she didn’t have long to think about it when she heard something slithering behind them and the ruffling of papers. “Tuxedo Mask! Watch ou- AH!” It was too late, though. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were trapped by those horrible wires that wrapped and tightened themselves around their entire bodies so every limb of theirs was trapped in place. With a wicked laugh and a sickening crack of claws, bolts of electricity were sent through the wires that painfully electrocuted the duo, causing them to scream out in pain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The screams of pain from the two mysterious superheroes filled Ami’s ears as the cackles and cruel words of the monster continually tortured her. “How pathetic!” it cried as it gave another snap, causing more electricity to be shot through to the superheroes, who howled in pain before slumping over with heavy breaths. From Ami’s calculations, it wouldn’t be long until those superheroes died from an electric overdose, and if they died, then not only she but her entire class was doomed. There had to be something she could do to stop this, but what? She wasn’t magic. She didn’t know any combat skills. She was just an ordinary girl with a high IQ. She couldn’t fight a monster! Especially one that defeated two superheroes already! She was useless in this situation!
Tears began to pour down Ami’s cheeks as the words from earlier started to reverberate around her mind. I was in the same class as her last year, and all she did was study and look down her nose at everyone else - There was nothing she could do! Maybe she might not even be in this situation if she hadn't studied so much. I never saw her with anyone, so I don’t think she had any friends - maybe if she had friends, there’d be someone she could call. No. She was alone. A lonely, pathetic, friendless girl who was going to die alone and helpless to do anything to stop it.
You’re very kind and sweet and super smart. Anyone should want to be your friend, Tsukino-chan had said to her. Tsukino-chan… Hopefully, she got out alright. She did come all the way here to help me. Because that’s what friends do. They help and care about each other. She had wanted to be her friend. Maybe they could’ve been real friends had this not happened. Maybe they could’ve done the things Ami had seen other teenagers her age had done like go to the movies or ice cream shops, but she’ll never know now. Tsukino-chan was hopefully gone and Ami will die along with her class and the heroes.
Ami glanced over at the heroes and saw they were mentally preparing themselves for more volts of electricity and through tears, Ami saw a detail she missed. The female had odango hair with two long ponytails. Wait, wasn’t Tsukino-chan wearing that exact same hairstyle as well?
Was the female superhero Tsukino-chan? Logically, it didn’t make sense to think of one of her classmates as a superheroine, but that distinctive hairstyle and the fact this hero - Sailor Moon was it - appeared right after Tsukino-chan arrived. And then there was the admittedly klutzy and loud behavior from both of them, it matched. Tsukino-chan was a superhero? The thought was still rather illogical but the evidence was undeniable and nothing about this situation was logical.
Ami looked back towards Sailor Moon, Tsukino-chan, and her heart broke at seeing how broken she looked. Another volt of electricity was then flooded causing her to scream out. No!
Ami NEEDED to do something! She might not be able to do much, but Tsukino-chan was her…friend! And friends help each other! She wanted to help Tsukino-chan! She wanted to help Sailor Moon!
At this, something felt like it burst inside of Ami. It wasn’t an uncomfortable feeling. It was very familiar. Soothing like a gentle wave even. It was as though it was a part of her that she had forgotten. The burst grew and grew until it transformed into a beautiful, lake-blue light around her chest until it moved to hover right in front of Ami. Ami heard the monster scream and let go of her, but she didn’t care. All she wanted in that moment was that beautiful light.
Ami held a hand toward the light until she grasped it. She felt how it became solid in her fingers until it burst into a bright light that nearly blinded her. However, this light was only for a moment. In the next, Ami stared at what looked like an ornate pen with a bright blue barrel and golden cap decorated with a planetary symbol and four jewels of red, blue, green, and orange at the center. However, something in her told her it wasn’t just any pen. Something in her told her what she needed to do. She knew what she needed to do!
“Mercury Power Make-Up!” she shouted as the symbol for Mercury appeared on her forehead, and a flood of power flowed through Ami. Her normal school uniform was replaced in a rush of watery blue. Her skirt was now short, a teal blue ribbon sat on her back and chest, her ears were now done up with pearls with three on her left and one on her right, white gloves over her hands and fingers now painted with blue nail polish, heeled boots in blue lined with white were on her feet, and a tiara covering the symbol on her forehead with a blue gem at the center.
“What are you?!” she heard the monster screech from behind.
She wouldn’t give this monster the time of day, though. “Shabon Spray!” she exclaimed instead, and heavy and thick mist descended upon the classroom, hiding everything and everyone from view.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were just barely coherent at this point. Too much electricity, and the only thing keeping them upright was the need to defeat this thing and save the hostages. “Tuxedo Mask,” Sailor Moon slurred out, “I’m so…”
“I know. We need to get out of here,” Tuxedo Mask said in a voice a little stronger (though not by much) than Sailor Moon, which should be impossible in her opinion. “Where did this fog come from?”
Fog? Sailor Moon opened her eyes and saw she couldn’t see her own fingers. Now, you could chalk this up to being electrocuted 6 or 7 times, but no, her body and clothes were also damp and heavy. So the fog was real? Where did this fog come from?
“Wait…this fog?” Luna said as she paused, trying to free them with her claws. It wasn’t like it worked anyway. “I recognize this fog,” she continued in shock, but why?
However, they didn’t have long to ponder this when a shadowy figure appeared walking through the fog. It didn’t seem like the youma, but one can never be too sure as they braced themselves for a fight - though how they would accomplish this tied up is anyone’s guess.
Thankfully, it never came. Instead, the figure continued walking towards them until she was in full view. It was another girl dressed like Sailor Moon, except her uniform was just shades of blue instead of a mix of blues, reds, and pinks. She looked like a sailor guardian, too!
“Sailor Mercury?” Luna asked in disbelief. “Is that really you?”
“Sailor Mercury?!” gasped Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. They watched as Sailor Mercury tapped the jewel on her tiara to cause some kind of magic, high-tech lens to lower, and a cute, blue portable computer with the Mercury symbol appeared in Sailor Mercury’s hand. She tapped a few keys on the computer before she stared at the screen. With a nod, she walked over to the duo and grabbed one of the wires, causing the whole thing to become untangled and fall into helpless lumps at their feet.
“So you’re a Sailor Guardian too?” Sailor Moon asked, catching her breath as Tuxedo Mask rushed over to catch her (he was so sweet)
“Yes. I am Sailor Mercury, and I’m here to help Sailor Moon,” the blue-haired girl, Sailor Mercury, said with a warm smile as she locked eyes with Sailor Moon. Wait, blue-hair!? Was she-
“Are you-?” Sailor Moon began.
Sailor Mercury cut her off, though. “There will be more than enough time to discuss that later, but we must fight off this enemy right now. And try to keep your voice down so we don’t alert the monster to our location,” she said in a low whisper, to which Sailor Moon quickly shoved her hands over her mouth.
“How are we going to be able to stop the monster and save the hostages with the fog this thick?” Tuxedo Mask asked in a low whisper.
“Don’t worry, I have a plan,” Sailor Mercury said before she gestured towards her computer. “My computer can show me where the monster and the hostages are due to their heat signatures. I can guide Sailor Moon’s hand, but you will rescue the students,” Sailor Mercury said as she showed the computer to them.
Sailor Moon looked over at Sailor Mercury and couldn’t help but be in awe and even a bit jealous of how quickly she seemed to have gotten this whole Sailor Guardian thing while she struggled to do anything without help. Why were they so different? Weren’t they both Sailor Guardians?
She didn’t have long to think about this when Sailor Mercury shouted, “Watch out!” Sailor Moon was quickly snatched up by Tuxedo Mask, who saved her from being attacked by another squadron of evil paper airplanes.
“Thanks, Tuxedo Mask,” Sailor Moon said with hearts in her eyes as she stared up at her masked hero, who gave a gentle smile in return.
“We don’t have time for this,” Luna harshly whispered. Rude. There was always time for this. “Sailor Mercury’s plan should work, and if Tuxedo Mask wants to make himself useful, he will start by freeing the hostages so they can’t be used against us.” Sailor Moon felt Tuxedo Mask stiffen before sighing and turning to Sailor Mercury.
“I’m on it. Where do I go?” Tuxedo Mask asked. Sailor Mercury nodded before using her computer to scan around before she pointed toward an opposing ceiling.
“Be careful, Tuxedo Mask,” Sailor Moon said to Tuxedo Mask as we were about to leap away.
Tuxedo Mask turned toward Sailor Moon with a small look of shock before giving a small smile. “Don’t worry about me.” Then he disappeared into the fog, far too soon, in Sailor Moon’s opinion.
“Sailor Moon! Focus!” Luna harshly whispered. Oh right. They’re in the middle of a battle.
But where was the enemy?
A small, low beeping began to ring out from the computer, which caused the hairs on the sailor guardians’ necks to stand on end as they caught the barest glimpse of a shadow in the distance. It wasn’t Tuxedo Mask’s. This one was too animalistic and looked like a predator ready to pounce as it blindly searched for its prey. Sailor Moon quickly and clumsily got into a fighting pose as she tried to calm her panicked breathing until she felt a tap on her shoulder. Sailor Moon was ready to strike for her life and her friends’ lives and Tuxedo Mask’s life…but this was not needed as it was Sailor Mercury who had touched her.
Sailor Mercury placed a finger to her lips before gesturing at the monster as it walked in another direction. “Quick, use your tiara,” Sailor Mercury whispered.
Sailor Moon nodded and went to touch the jewel on her forehead but only found the smooth skin of her forehead. Well…that was not good. That was very, very not good. Sailor Moon gestured at her forehead to Luna and Sailor Mercury, confused at first before their eyes widened in fear.
“Where is it?” Luna whispered harshly as she began to look around the floor.
Sailor Moon recalled the last time she used it and remembered it was by the door. “The entrance. I didn’t get the chance to grab it.” Luna and Sailor Mercury looked on in disbelief which Sailor Moon was very offended by. She was kind of busy, you know. “It should be okay, though,” Sailor Moon whispered back. “I can just summon it back, right?”
“The youma might catch onto what we’re doing, though,” Luna said.
“Maybe we could cause a distraction,” Sailor Mercury pointed out. “The monster will be drawn by us, allowing Sailor Moon time to get her tiara back.”
Luna paused before thinking about it and saying, “You’re right. I’ll cause the distraction while you two get the tiara back.”
The feline then disappeared into the fog before they were allowed to agree or disagree with her. Loud thuds and clunks could be heard from the other side of the room, followed by growls and roars from the youma. Sailor Moon gasped as a hundred scenarios about Luna versus the youma went through her head, and none of them ended well for the cat. “Quick, Sailor Moon, get your tiara, and we can save Luna,” Sailor Mercury whispered. She must’ve noticed how worried Sailor Moon looked.
Sailor Moon nodded and clasped her hands together, focusing on her tiara. Tiara…tiara…tiara. A small shuffle of something could be heard. Tiara…tiara…tiara…come here… The shuffling got louder until he distinctive, magical buzzing floated through the air. Tiara…tiara…tiara…fly into my hand. The magical buzzing became louder and louder until a shining white light pierced through the fog and charged right towards Sailor Moon when the memory of what had happened earlier flashed through her mind. She didn’t want to end up as moondust. Wait a minute…the tiara does as she asks, right?
Tiara…tiara…tiara…land safely in my hand. Hopefully, that worked. Sailor Moon then felt something cool and metal land in her hands. She opened her eyes and saw that her tiara was no longer a spinning weapon of death but just an accessory. Well, that’s good.
What was not good was the loud cat yowl of pain. “Luna!” Sailor Moon cried out before quickly silencing herself. What was that youma doing to her feline guardian?
“Don’t worry, Sailor Moon. I know exactly where they are,” Sailor Mercury said before showing Sailor Moon the computer, which showed two figures covered in oranges, greens, blues, and yellows. One Luna and the youma who was holding her up to her claws. “Just remember the plan.”
“What about Luna?” the Moon Senshi asked before looking back at the computer, where she saw another figure. Wait, Tuxedo Mask? He was done already. Maybe he could save Luna? Sailor Moon looked at the screen again before remembering all the times Luna told her not to trust him.
However, Sailor Moon couldn’t agree with that. He’s saved her many times since the beginning when he had no reason to and helped save all those hostages, so why would Luna be any different? Armed with this thought, Sailor Moon placed her tiara back on her head and touched the red jewel in the center. The tiara began to glow once more as Sailor Moon listened to Sailor Mercury’s words. “Remember you need to aim your tiara at a degree of 67 degrees to hit her spine before she moves,” Sailor Mercury said.
“Uh…” Sailor Moon said, not understanding.
“Just aim for the right, or you’ll hit Luna,” Sailor Mercury repeated in easy terms. Much better.
“Moon Tiara Boomerang,” Sailor Moon said, and she threw the tiara to the right.
A scream of pain howled before cursing Sailor Moon and crying how their ‘Great Queen’ will defeat her someday. Sailor Moon and Mercury both sighed in relief before they wondered about Luna. Was she okay?
A shadow appeared in the mist, this one tall and cradling something. It walked closer until it was revealed to be “Tuxedo Mask?!” Sailor Moon cried joyfully at seeing her masked savior holding Luna in his arms. She seemed a little beat up, but okay otherwise.
“Your cat seems to enjoy trouble,” Tuxedo Mask said as he returned the cat to Sailor Moon.
“Not really. Usually, she’s the one keeping me out of trouble,” Sailor Moon said with a blush as Luna started to stir in her arms.
“I-Is the youma gone?” Luna asked a bit dizzy.
“Yeah. We got them, Luna! And Tuxedo Mask saved you,” Sailor Moon excitedly said.
“He did?” Luna asked before staring suspiciously at Tuxedo Mask. “Why?”
“You were hostage and I was saving hostages,” Tuxedo Mask continued. “Besides, how often does someone meet a talking cat?”
“Are the hostages safe, by the way?” Sailor Moon asked with worry evident in her eyes.
“Don’t worry. They’re in the hallway, and emergency services are on their way,” Tuxedo Mask said. “However, I better head off,” he continued before grabbing one of Sailor Moon’s hands and bringing it to his lips. “Until next time, Sailor Moon.” Then he disappeared into the fog, and Sailor Moon felt like she could float on air. If she died at that moment, she wouldn’t even care. Oh, Tuxedo Mask…They were so meant to be.
“Sailor Moon…Sailor Moon….Sailor Moon!” Luna cried, being horrible and breaking Sailor Moon out of her Tuxedo Mask-filled daydreams.
“Huh…what?” Sailor Moon said.
“We need to get home and explain all this to Sailor Mercury,” Luna said.
Oh right! Sailor Mercury! Sailor Moon turned to her fellow sailor guardian and asked, “So you’re Mizuno-chan, right?”
“Yes. And I know you’re Tsukino-chan,” Sailor Mercury replied.
Sailor Moon gasped in shock. “How did you know!?” She’s always so careful though!
“It’s really not that hard if you know where to look,” Sailor Mercury said.
“Sailor Mercury,” Luna said in a serious tone. “Do you remember anything about your past life or our princess?”
“Unfortunately, no. All I know is that when Tsukino-chan was in trouble something inside me told me that my mission was to help and protect her and everything else was essentially muscle memory,” Sailor Mercury sadly said.
“This is unfortunate indeed though at least we found one other senshi,” Luna agreed. “Maybe we should continue this conversation at home, Usagi-chan.”
“Yeah,” Sailor Moon continued before realizing how late it was and her mom’s words. “My mom’s going to kill me!” Before quickly racing out of there, followed by Sailor Mercury and Luna.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Where have you been, Usagi?!” Ikuko yelled, half-scared and half-angry.
“I’m sorry Mom! I got sidetracked!” Usagi cried out in sadness with tears streaming from her eyes.
“Sidetracked?!” Ikuko continued. “You were supposed to be home three hours ago!”
“But, mom-!” Usagi whined.
“No, buts! I’m exten-” Ikuko continued scolding.
“Excuse me, ma’am. You really shouldn’t be blaming, Tsukino-chan,” Mizuno-chan said as she walked into the house.
“Who are you?” Ikuko asked confused at the sight of the unknown girl.
“My name is Mizuno Ami, and I’m in Usagi’s class. I’m sorry she wasn’t home on time, but I was helping her study today and time just got away from us,” Mizuno-chan continued winking at Usagi who quickly understood and nodded in unison.
“You were helping Usagi study?” Ikuko continued, confused.
“Yes, ma’am. Tsukino-chan said she needed help on her assignments and thankfully I’m well-versed on nearly every subject, so I decided to tutor her in the library before we came back here,” Mizuno-chan said.
“Is this true, Usagi?” Ikuko asked her daughter.
“Uh…yeah!” Usagi quickly cried before intertwining her arm with Mizuno-chan’s. “We’re just going to head up to my room now and continue studying so bye!” With that, the two girls waved goodbye to Ikuko and headed to Usagi’s room.
The two sat down as Luna began to speak, “Now that Sailor Mercury has found us, we still need to find the other three guardians and the princess before our enemies, this mysterious Dark Kingdom does. I also must apologize to you Sailor Mercury. I had misjudged your energy as belonging to our enemy instead of an ally and for this I am deeply ashamed.”
“It’s al-” Mizuno-chan began but was cut off by Sailor Moon.
“It looks like I was right too! I mean I was the one who pointed out that Mizuno-chan wasn’t evil,” Usagi proudly said. “By the way, thanks for saving me from my mom and the youma.”
“You’re welcome,” Mizuno-chan said before a small blush came to her cheeks. “So are we friends now?” said in a way like the concept was so foreign to her.
“On one condition,” Usagi said as stuck up one finger. “You have to let me call you Ami-chan!”
Mizuno-chan or Ami-chan looked shocked by this before she gave a small smile. “Alright, but only if I get to call you Usagi-chan.”
“Well, we’re friends now!” Usagi said, before throwing her arms around her new friend and fellow guardian.
“We better get to studying though,” Ami-chan said which made Usagi cry out in pain.
“Why?!” Usagi cried before falling to the ground like she’d been hit on the head by an anvil.
“We did tell your mother we’d be studying up here. Besides, friends help each other, right?” Ami-chan said with a knowing smile.
“That’s mean,” Usagi groaned. How dare she use her own words against her? Especially in order to study. “Alright, fine. But I won’t enjoy it.”
Ami-chan then pulled out their textbooks which Usagi, begrudgingly, tried to follow along with.
The two didn’t even notice Luna leave through the window.
Luna did as she did every night and made her way inside the Crown Arcade through a small crack in the alley. Luckily, they closed early on weekdays, so no one was bound to catch her breaking in and making her way toward the Sailor V video game. She still didn’t understand why Central Command insisted on using this game machine for important discussion. Then again she didn’t understand a lot about Central Command, other than what they told her.
Hopping onto the seat she quickly typed in the code for Central Command when she heard the voice.
“Luna,” came the garbled tone. “Do you have any news for us?”
“Yes. I am pleased to say we’ve located Sailor Mercury who has been reincarnated into a middle school girl named Mizuno Ami,” Luna said as pictures of Ami and Sailor Mercury appeared on the screen. “Unfortunately, outside of combat and her abilities, she doesn’t remember anything like Sailor Moon.”
“This is unfortunate indeed,” Central Command said back. “For now, keep an eye on them both. Make sure they continue to grow as Sailor Guardians and guide them. They will need it.”
“Yes, Central Command. I also have other news,” Luna said as she took a deep breath. “Someone heard me talk today.”
“Who?” Central Command asked.
“I’m not sure of his name but I know he’s a male with black hair and blue eyes,” Luna continued.
“Do you believe him to be a threat?” Central Command sharply questioned.
“He doesn’t seem like one,” Luna honestly answered.
“Ensure he doesn’t hear you speak again,” Central Command said. “And what of the Tuxedo Mask situation?”
“Inconclusive. He saved me today and Sailor Moon has the utmost trust in him but I can't shake this feeling about him,” Luna continued.
“I see. Just watch him for now. He could be a valuable asset to us or a deadly enemy, but definitely a wild card,” Central Command said. “Anything else for today?”
“No.”
“Good. Central Command signing off.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
And like that, they were gone and Luna was left in the dark, empty arcade with more questions than answers. Then again that’s how it always was with Central Command.
“Are you sure about this? Keeping them in the dark like this?”
“It’s the only way. With the Dark Kingdom causing trouble and the other guardians unknown in this lifetime, we can only be careful.”
“But why wait for the other other guardians to reveal themselves?”
“If we’re discovered now, it might be too late.”
“Whatever you say.”

This is a strange request, hopefully not too strange to do, but can I request an x reader with Shuichi, Kokichi, K1-B0, and Rantaro (all separate) with a gender neutral reader who holds onto a locket with a music box inside of it for comfort, only to get upset one day when they lose said locket?
The locket idea is inspired by the Star Locket from Sailor Moon, hopefully this request won't be too hard for you to do!

Notes: Apologies I've written this request In the style of headcannons like I've done with other requests similar to this. School is starting again for me soon and I've just been tired and stressed about it starting. So my time for getting requests done will probably slow down. However in the future, if you wish I can rewrite this so it's not in the style of headcannons.

Shuichi
Lost item? No fear Shuichi is here! He's probably one of the best people to help you find something that you've lost. With the detective skills why wouldn't he be?
Of course, if you're rather upset about not having your locket with you. Shuichi will do his best to help you relax and calm you down. (He'll even let you wear his hat! You look adorable in it by the way.)
All you have to do is describe what the locket looks like and where you last had it and Detective Shuichi is on the case! Day and night high and low this may be his toughest case but he'll find your locket even if it kills him! But just then he had managed to find your locket!
He was happy and relieved that he had managed to find it for you. He'd know you'd feel the same as him but more so off he went to return it to you! You were in your room so that's where he went!
"Uh... Y/N are you in hear? I've found your locket!" You perked up immediately hearing this. "Shuichi! You have found it! Thank you so much you have no idea how much this means to me!"
You said hugging him happily and then taking the locket from him. "Oh uhm... It's no problem Y/N I'm just happy I could help!" You smile at him but your focus soon goes back to the locket.
"Come on let me show and tell you why it's so special to me!" You say as you take a hold of his hand to have him sit down with you. As the both of you listen to the music of the locket he listens to talk about it looking at you with loving eyes.
Kokichi
Honestly, a part of me believes if you trust him enough to let him hold it he might accidentally lose it. "Hey! Hey! Y/N what's that? Can I hold it? Come on! Please?" Whether you give in or not you let Kokichi hold and observe your locket after you told him to be careful with it.
And then that little gremlin runs away with it as you hear. "Nishishi it's mine!" Of course, you didn't expect this and started to chase after him. But after some time you lose sight of him and just wait for him to return to you.
Well, he did return but without your locket... "Kokichi! How could you lose it? That was important to me!" After seeing how upset you've become Kokichi immediately feels guilty. You storm off in search of your locket.
Of course, Kokichi feels horrible about losing the locket. So he looks around where he last had it with him. After some time he found it and relief washed over him.
Now all he has to do is return to you! After running around for a while he finally spots you! You hear someone running towards turning around to see who it is. It's Kokichi with your locket in his hands!
"Kokichi! You found it! But please don't let anything like this happen again alright?" He took it to heart about how much this locket was to you. "Nishishi of course Y/N I'll be extra careful with it next time! But if anyone else takes it from you. Just tell me and I'll send DICE after that loser!"
You smile You knew he felt bad about what he had done but he was still the same old Kokichi you knew and loved and nothing could change that. "Thank you Kokichi it means a really. Now come over let's listen to the music of my locket together!"
K1-B0
You had explained the situation to Keebo and had been searching for your locket for a while. But no matter where you looked you just couldn't find it. But no problem after Keebo is friends with the gorgeous girl genius MIU IRUMA!
Keebo had told you to keep searching for the locket while he went to Miu for some help! After explaining the situation to Miu he told her he wanted a new upgrade to locate missing items. "Get over here you tin can so this gorgeous girl genius can install that sweet new upgrade!"
Miu beamed getting to work with Keebo again. "Hey! Was that a robophobic remark? But I guess I'll let it slide if it's to help Y/N..." And so after some more time, Miu had installed the upgrade for Keebo!
Happier than ever he thanked Miu before running off to find you! Keebo returned after some time with a smile on his face as he's happy he can help you now! "Y/N! Look at this Miu installed a new upgrade for me!" Keebo's ahoge began to spin around much like a radar LMAO.
"Found it!" Keeboo spoke running along the path the two of you were currently on. After some time he returned with your locket on a smile was beaming on both your faces! "Thank you Keebo this means a lot to me. I'm very grateful you went to such lengths to find this for me."
You spoke as Keebo handed you the locket. "Come on I'll show you why this locket is so special to me. The music from it can be very relaxing!" You smiled going to sit on a nearby bench as you motioned for Keebo to follow. With a smile on your face and curiosity in Keebo's eyes, music began to play as you spoke about why the locket was so special to you.
Rantaro
I'm sorry but you guys are NOT finding that locket. This man lost seven? Nine? Of his sisters, he definitely can't help you find a locket. 💀
But of course, Rantaro is Rantaro and he's going to help you find that locket! (Even if it takes forever to find it...) Of course, you explain to him what it looks like and begin to cover your tracks.
However, even after some time of searching you just couldn't find it. This greatly upset you as the locket was very precious to you. Rantaro did his best to comfort you hugging you and reassured you that your locket would be found.
After some time you began to calm down no matter what you would find the locket! After some more time looking around for your locket, Rantaro notices a shimmer out of the corner of his eye. He went to inspect what it was and after some time realized it was your locket!
"Y/N darling I've found your locket!" Rantaro smiled turning to face you locket in hand. "Oh, Rantaro! Thank you it means the world that you found it!" Your mood changed to one of happiness with a smile on your face which Rantaro loved to see.
Rantaro hands the locket to you and you happily accept it. "Come on I'll show and tell you why this locket is so special to me!" You said grabbing his hand and walking along with him starting to talk about your locket.
The smile and the way you talked about your locket made Rantaro happier than he'd ever been. He loves you so much and no matter always wants to see you happy.

"Soldier of Love and Vengeance, Sailor Nemesis! In the name of Black Moon, I'll destroy you!"
I haven't talked about the Sailor Moon AU rewrite in so long lmao, but since I basically dropped the fic might as well do shit with the concepts.
So basically Chibs's deal in the AU isn't wanting to grow up but wanting to have actual senshi powers (the moniker of Sailor Chibi Moon is because she's literally just using Sailor Moon's powers since hers haven't awakened) and so Wiseman lies to her about actually being Sailor Nemesis, that everyone lied to her and kept her ignorant because her powers were so volatile (and Chibs being 11 and with issues wholeheartedly believes that), and so Wiseman "unlocks" her powers turning her into Sailor Nemesis.
As for her design I wanted to take Black Lady's color pallete adapted into a fuku, taking design cues from Dark Mercury and Princess Sailor Moon due to fittingness. It also works as a neat darker inversion of Sailor Moon's colors!

Fic Author Self-Rec!
tagged by the lovely @mareenavee , thank you so much!! <3
tagging @dirty-bosmer @orfeoarte @gilgamish @umbracirrus @totally-not-deacon @v1ctory-or-sovngarde @thequeenofthewinter and YOU!! no pressure to participate, and if you haven't written 5 fics, feel free to just talk about whichever ones you have!!
Rules:
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love!
i'm going to paste each fics summary, and then go on my tangents!
An Inner Sanctity
Two months after attempting to utilize the Eye of Magnus and gain it's power, Ancano wakes up in an unfamiliar cottage, being cared for by the very person he intended to destroy. Navigating their strange and new dynamic, the Thalmor agent finds he may be offered second chance at life, but whether or not he takes it is another story.
this fic is a huge work of exploration into what indoctrination can do to someone who has never known any different, and how that can affect things as broad as worldviews and as personal as one-on-one dynamics with people. it's also partially catharsis-fic, as giving ancano some of my own mental and physical issues and dialing it up to 10000000000% is a hell of a lot of fun. i love seeing that old man suffer and then earn his rise from the ashes. plus, using athenath in a fic where they cant rely on the other two of the trio - as this is in an AU i call the "athenath solo run" - forces me to think of how they would handle situations on his own. spoiler? not too well.
it's on a hiatus at the moment despite having a pretty long backlog, i just don't have the motivation right now to edit and write more for it, but that definitely will change in the future, because i really love exploring ancano's psyche and how he begins to grow and change.
also the fic title comes from the song "Twilight" by Bôa, while that doesnt have anything to do with the fic, i loved the line "you give me an inner sanctity", sooooo <3
The Mark You Left
Two scientists realize, upon losing contact with Dr. Richtofen, that they are truly alone in the aftermath of their actions.
i don't have 5 fics for TES, so have my singular CoD Zombies fic as well! i've had a special interest in the ultimis timeline of CoD Zombies since uhhhh 2011? maybe? sometimes it lays dormant for months and then all of the sudden i think about it daily, especially the dynamics between Dr. Schuster, Dr. Richtofen, and Dr. Groph. so, i wrote this as a bit of a loveletter to a fandom i no longer am part of, but still have a lot of fondness for. it's a quick read that hits on this concept of ultimate betrayal in the aftermath of literally betraying someone else for that person. two people dealing with that, processing that, and what they'll do in the wake of all of this.
the title for this fic comes from the song "Birds" by BENN, who used to make CoD Zombies-based songs before rewriting/redoing them for his own original work!!
Portraits Under Forgotten Suns
A collection of short one-shot fics done for TESFest 2023. A werewolf in his cage, a Bosmer alchemists' first memory, a Dunmer mage's quiet contemplation, a humble keeper's last look at the place he's called home, a sailor's fate at the wreck of the Brinehammer, and an Altmer bard's fond summer memory.
as it says on the tin! its a series of one-shots i initially published to tumblr, then moved to Ao3 to make them more accessible and have a ready archive of them! i loved working on each of these, getting into different perspectives, and figuring out how to convey the narratives of the characters i worked with. i liked writing up details of my dragonborn trio's pasts, too, and the story for "Forgotten/Devotion" was a hell of a lot of fun, getting to pull the wreck of the brinehammer into a fic!
If by Sun and Moon I Swore
With the Empire's victory in the Skyrim Civil War, Hadvar has been quietly readjusting to regular life. When an old friend turns up at his door, that quiet he'd hoped for comes to a halt.
i love hadvar/ralof with all my wretched pining heart okay. i cannot deny this pair has a vice grip on me! and working with them, two soldiers touched by war on opposite sides who once had something (in this case, used to be (and still are) in love), can be something both so tragic and so healing. pulling this pair back together, giving them some form of comfort, even if it's brief, is such a joy. i have intentions of writing more for this couple in the future, but that's likely going to be a while. still, i'll be sure to let you guys know if i do get around to it!!
this fics title is from "Like The Dawn" by The Oh Hellos! its my quintessential hadvar/ralof song for sure <3
Cycle of the Serpent
Surviving Helgen by the skin of their teeth, three elves find themselves tossed into the middle of ancient legends, a civil war, and a hell of a lot of problems. They may all have different reasons for being in Skyrim, but if they have any hope of reaching their destinations alive, it lies in learning to trust their strange new companions… no matter what. From the ruins of Helgen to the plains of Whiterun, from the seas of Solitude to the grim frost of Winterhold, and everywhere sprawling beyond, the unlikely trio will find that being chosen by Akatosh is more than they've ever bargained for. And with their own histories crawling back, and secrets slowly spilled, the trio may find that there's little they can do to escape the cycles they've made.
this longfic is… a huge undertaking. "An Inner Sanctity" focuses on two very flawed people coming to love one another. "Cycle of the Serpent" focuses on three very flawed, extremely fucked up people learning to trust one another and face whatever fate awaits them together, even when that trust is tested, even when the world is cruel, even when trauma batters and bruises them in the current and then rises up from the briny depths of the past to tug them back down beneath. it's about sustained and sometimes self-fulfilling cycles of hurt, anger, and sometimes vengeance, and it's about love and joy and companionship and friendship that lives within it all.
in short, this longfic is one of my biggest undertakings in a very long time.
i started this as a bit of a joke. the idea of there being more than one LDB was a fun idea, and then i created three elves, and those three elves gave me their family histories and their childhood friendships and their previous travels and how it changed them all prior to helgen and i went… yeah i can't just not write this and go insane about it. these three and their various methods for dealing with situations, their triumphs and defeats, and how they bounce off one another became so organic and real to me that i feel continuously pulled to keep their narrative going. this story forced me to write my first ever combat scenes (posted the snippet of my second ever real combat scene tonight!) and learn how to navigate keeping it within TES lore, while also breaking out of some of the stale writing in skyrim itself. i have plans to rewrite/overhaul entire questlines and characters to give them more life, and i've got dozens of OCs lined up - at least one of whom is hinted at within the first chapter. i have this story and these characters arcs planned out, and they do get particularly grim at points, but i never want this story to go into "there is no hope" territory. there's always hope, it just lies in learning to break your own cycles, even if it feels like it may kill you.
the title of this fic was taken from the song "Pillar of Na" by Saintseneca, i very heavily envision emeros as the first verse, athenath as the second, wyndrelis as the third, with the fourth being all three of them, and the fifth (the "eternal, eternal, eternity round…") being a sort of ensemble of all the places and people they've touched in their lives.
woooooooooooooooo!! that was long-winded. thank you for listening to me ramble on these, and thank you so much again for tagging me, mareena!! i hope everyone is having a lovely wednesday/thursday!! <3333
