if the theory of sam reich being replaced by .. evil wizard dalton reich (and i cant believe i am partaking in this discurse) is true..
i've seen some people asking the question about what those childhood tapes mean. Well i am one of the ancient ones that owned vhs tapes and you know you could replace whats stored on those tapes with overwriting it with new material but it would slowly degrade the quality as the magnetic tape the information is stored on isn't necessarly made to be re-recorded on indefinetly which would also explain the degrading quality of the gamechanger episode.
So my theory is that dalton reich wants to erase sam from history and to do this he is slowly erasing any proof that could hint on sam and dalton being two different people. One thing he appearantly needed to do is overwrite these old vhs tapes of sams childhood.

of genderswapped sam and dean. who has the short haircut.
THE REAL QUESTION. i could see a case for either. short hair is probably more convenient for hunting after all....
i think dean wears her hair long as a kid because it reminds john of mary. you could make the case that he'd cut her hair because it reminds him of mary too much, but i can't see it really, i think he'd want to preserve the innocence he sees in girlhood that he doesnt seem to in boyhood (a la that whole journal entry about wishing he had girls and how sons have to be soliders). continuing that, i cant actually really see her cutting her hair short at all because it ties her to her mother in her eyes. i think girl dean is like so obsessed with mary. can you imagine like. her whole life is about avenging mary and she's her daughter and the only girl in the family now. she has no adult female role models except her dead mother. she plays into being john (still loves cars and classic rock and wears flannel and leather jackets and is generally 'masculine') but she still sees herself as mary. john sees her as mary too even though he expects her to act exactly like him also. so i think she keeps her hair long. she probably has childhood memories of mary brushing it and wants to hold onto them. i think she likes it long, and i think john likes it long, and i think it reminds them both of mary, and i think they both like that.
sam? well sam is a lot less invested in playing the Role that's expected of him, so. girl sam is victim to levels of misogyny previously unthought of especially in the way where both john and dean see her as soooo weak and little and in need of protection. and they probably rely on the girl thing a lot to infantilise her. so i can totally see her cutting her hair off in a Fuck You to john at some point. tbh i reckon girl sam would have hair like canon sam's later season hair. though rly i can see anything with sam. also i feel like she'd have grown up with a shortish bob because it's easier maintenance (for dean john winchester is NOT bothered with looking after sams hair <3)
also both of those answers are in an au where one of them's raised a girl and the other isn't. but if we're talking total femchesters? john having two daughters? need to think on this more but im still leaning towards sam. i think girl dean commits to being a Girl the same way canon dean commits to being a Guy, even though both of them are shrouded in the same machismo. but sam fights any role hes given
tldr: sam

supernatural rewatch 1.16
this episode is so wincest. first we have dean being SO incredibly jealous over meg flirting with sam at the bar, standing behind sam and “ahem”ing like ‘um excuse me! can’t u see his brotherhusband is standing right here…’
then we get sam saying he wants to go back to school after this and dean fighting back tears like I KNOWW his stomach hurt so bad when sam said that.
“there has to be something you want for yourself”
“yea i don’t want you to leave .......”
look at him standing there.
PITIFUL!!!!!!!!
IM GONNA BE SICK !!! all dean wants is to be with sam for the rest of his life he just wants to be NEAR him & be together forever. like sam is the only semblance of love & affection he’s ever received. so sad & so pathetically in love with his brother it’s disgusting … i love it do it again

i think its really funny that with every other ghost hunting channel ever, a good chunk of the appeal is 'woah are they gonna find real ghosts?' or whatever and they make these really over the top videos about it acting like every single thing is definitively ghosts and cant possibly be any other thing (or they completely faked it themselves) and they dont really shine as people quite as much and theyre probably trying to appeal to kids with this style of video, or just make it exciting so it doesnt feel like its just people in an empty old house blah blah
but then we have shane and ryan who have literally never found proof, they dont really pretend theyve ever found proof (ryan has thought so a few times but he doesnt exactly sit around going 'holy shit remember that piece of proof we found one time that totally proved we found ghosts!' which a lot of channels do in my experience)
no we just all kinda stick around cause we love the dynamic. the shenanigans. if they ever proved ghosts were real it probably would be overshadowed by some funny thing they did they episode aside from that lol

Dean: "I know things got dicey… you know, with dad… the way he was. And I just… I didn’t always look out for you the way that I should’ve. I mean, I had my own stuff, you know. In order to keep the peace, it probably looked like I took his side quite a bit. Sometimes when I was… when I was away, you know it wasn’t ‘cause I just ran out, right? Dad would… he would send me away when I really pissed him off. I think you knew that."
this is literally the episode right before "Lebanon" where they're pretending to be a happy family

there's an Enigma.
comically small, compared to an enormous, quadripedal Aeon. pale diamond has been boring into stellar skin for a long while- unmoving. unblinking. it looks like it's studying THEM.
' have you ever thought about... ' it starts. then stops, lost in thoughts. it has no fear of the Arrow. it's merely the curiosity of one of Mythus's beings.
' if one day another being was to fell you in battle, would they become... you? a Aeon themselves? would they automatically ascend to the position? '
✧ ⁀➷ The Reignbow nearly misses stomping on the small Enigma and behind their face shield they lowly groan with detest. There is no honor in falsehoods and deceits. It deters from administering justice and Mythus may be an elder to The Hunt, but their broken constructs are an irritation.
Just as it is now, having the gall in speaking to the illustrious hunter. Their hands of vibrant indigo reach down and grab hold of the tiny Enigma, lifting it higher to view its lies at eyelevel.
𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥. 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 … their grip squeezing the construct of lies.
The hunter has no patience for this thing, but what harm could befall the heavens and cosmos for answering its question. It is undoubtedly understood that Aeons and their ideals are swallowed and assimilated by other Aeons. They are never truly gone, but reinvented or reborn. However, this question, it's phrasing suggest something more … something not quite that has ever happened before.
𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐮𝐱𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐭.
Mortals could never harness a power or strength that could fall an Aeon, but if such a power could be constructed or obtained, Lan will not allow the cycle of life and death to be disturbed. It cannot allow Yaoshi to go unmatched.
Lan would not hesitate to challenge their end and fight whatever or whomever that stands in their way; and should it best them, one final arrow will be fired and what it hits will be one of their warriors who can rise to the Aeonhood.
𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐮𝐱𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰.
That is also understood in the meaning of the hunt. The victory and prize of slicing the throat of one's prey. However, with the arrow comes the duty of ending Yaoshi and spinning the wheel of the life and death. If the challenger is a pathstrider or emanator then they too are already The Hunt.
They only need the arrow to ascend to the heavens and stars. The arrow the only weapon that can kill The Abundance.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐠𝐨.

Saw yet another Wincest post celebrating the toxic codependency and I just...
Them: Dean and Sam sleeping on facing sides of their beds, staying close together, omg it's such a soulmate thing to do and soooo cute.
Me:
It's actually a response learned in childhood not only due to their hunting lifestyle but also to the abuse they endured (and again, their toxic codependency that again formed during said traumas), but okay. Yeah, I mean...why not mistakenly characterize it as an earmark of a true soulmate connection instead of actually calling it out for what it is? Why don't we just keep glossing over every single trauma both boys experienced throughout childhood as well as adulthood so we don't have to have that uncomfortable (but important) conversation of what actually happened to them and why they do the things they do? Sure, Jan, let's keep doing that.
