i know people are good because of this: the universe often assigns me side quests. in a circular strangeness; despite my inability to locate my-own-anything, i am almost-always finding someone else's lost things. dogs, coats, phones, cash, laptops. it happens so often it's almost tiring; suddenly being looped into a tiny amount of detective work.

but when i'm with other people who are not used to this: the response is almost invariably delight. yes, maybe they are simply thrilled by the mystery. it's just... they light up so much. i think maybe more... i think they like the opportunity to do something kind.

a few weeks ago, i was at a bar and i found a wallet as soon as we stepped outside. i felt nervous to ask for help, worried i would be holding up the night. i picked it up and said go on without me, i should help this get back to its home.

instead, three people pulled out their phones - to find him on facebook, to help cancel his credit cards. two people went back into the bar to tell the bartender, two others went calling down the street. group texts, facebook posts, instagram stories. people, without even seeing what happened, start offering help to me. fifteen minutes and: someone knows someone who knows the guy. the cheer that went up - just for finding him, just for this small thing. someone gets him on the phone. strangers dance around me, hopping on their feet - are you the girl that found that wallet? good for you, that's a good thing you're doing/same thing happened to me and somebody did what you're doing and i thank god everyday for people like you/i can't believe you found him so fast this is so exciting

i gave it back to him in a parking lot. i watched his shoulders sag with relief. there was cash in it still - he checked the pocket, and then sheepishly held the money out to me. i didn't take it. i held up my hands. "it's no problem, man. i know you'd do the same for me."

i don't know him, to be honest. i don't know if he is the same kind of person i am. but he nodded at me.

and i know people are good. i know people are good, because the way this story ends isn't surprising. we wave goodbye awkwardly. my friend loops their arm around me.

"i can't believe we got it back to him," they said. "i'm going to be riding that high for weeks."

can’t decide on the funniest part of the season 6 finale: the huge amount of emphasis placed on buck and natalia reconciling and deciding to give their relationship a proper chance only for them to break up offscreen in between seasons and buck to immediately get a boyfriend, or that the writers went “hm what’s the most satisfying ending we can give all our characters if this ends up being the end of the show? …they all learn to meditate”

a required book for one of my classes is way way out of my price budget, so i had to look for Alternative Methods to get ahold of it... but you see it's a niche particular book that wasn't on any pdf-sharing sites... except for the very last one I looked at. Sometimes inspiration comes in the weirdest of places (I found a childhood book about search and find) and it just makes you wanna change your niche to fill a void that it left in you (I wanna draw large pages filled to the brim with things going on and then hand you a checklist of thing to find). Especially when it's a genre you don't see much anymore (this is a joke about how I saw a childhood puzzle book while high off the shits and how I wanna become the next I SPY bc it sounds super rad)

I'm sad to report Sonic Superstars completely falls apart during the second and final campaigns. The worst of the Advance syndrome of cheap difficulty, bottomless pits, bad enemy placement and confusing level design gets combined with levels that already overstay their welcome in the main game, bosses that were already too damn long and now are even longer, with long phases and, in the case of the final bosses of each campaign, no checkpoints between those 4+ minute phases.

I'm heartbroken. I wanted to love Superstars, and I kinda did during the main campaign, but playing the extra campaigns just made me hate it and brought back flashbacks of the worst experiences I've had playing 2D Sonic games. Frustration, bad design (a booster into a wall that insta-kills you, for example) and having to re-do fights that easily balloon up to 10 MINUTES and beyond.

Honestly, I don't know what they were thinking, and the worst part is that those campaigns are required to reach the True Final Boss, which might be the worst Sonic boss fight ever. It's broken, you lose rings during cutscenes, you will be hit with cheap shots and deaths, the game will give you rings whenever it feels like, the boss will take you out of the ring collecting phase at random, forcing you to wait another full timer to get rings from your friends, and it ends with a wonky QTE that you have to nail several times without taking a single hit and without running out of rings. THE ONLY QTE OF THE GAME, and it's here. It's no Frontiers QTE, it's closer to Forces in concept but that game did it better. Oh, and if you don't have like 20 rings or so after beating the boss, the game will kill you and you'll have to do the entire thing again. I know, it happened to me. I had to re-do the entirety of that shitty fight like 3 times. Awful.

It feels like a repeat of The Final Horizon's flaws, but this time with none of its good parts. I could sit here and say that Superstars is a nice 8/10 based entirely on my first campaign experience, but I can't pretend like the rest of the game doesn't exist, because you'll have to experience those extra campaigns if you wanna get your Super Sonic fight and fully beat the game.

There's a good game in Superstars, but it's buried very deep under tons of idiotic decisions and core issues that I don't know if could be resolved with patches. Cheap artificial difficulty killed this game for me.
