Yesterday, the idea was how similar of a space Bonney & Kiku fill. Either theoretically can suit this idea of a Quartermaster to round out the last potential spot on the main cast. One's an imposing big sister with an actress vibe and military background, one's a sharp little sister who's shown some acting ability helped by a devil fruit and capacity to be the cooler head. Bonney is having her moment finally, while also giving us answers on tangentially related big deals.

The question, once again, is how much this moment matters to the whole? And I think we can explore that by how the two differ. Though of course for Bonney this could all change quickly, not to mention this filler episode or next Academy chapters could get weird. We're well past the point weird is on the table. We're chowing down on weird. There's a few points here so I'll just dive in:

First, a theme we've seen before. Bonney here is shaping up to be a bigger parenthetical in a sense. Kuma shows up before Izo. He had more of an impact. But there is a similar point we've mentioned with Vivi. We know the Supernova were kinda spur of the moment. Nothing about Kuma's story in Thriller Bark or Bonney's intro in Sabaody really hints at this bond. In hindsight Izo's specific role in Marineford and Kin's first appearances do have elements that make you think about Kiku's later role. It's still pitting someone we know was a sudden inclusion vs. the echo of Kamatari.

It's hard to tell the difference between a foreshadow and a callback, but given what he had prior I could believe Bonney's connection here was something conceived during the hiatus at the end of Wano. Speaking of...end of the day if you do go with Bonney or anyone really you still need an answer for why the hell we did what we did with Kiku. We do drop that shell game at the end on someone who had the arc she did and can make so much use of this weird theatrical theming. I still can't get over Academy pulling a much more blatant version of this trick. I can't get over Ginny at God Valley pulling more or less my original pitch for how you could make that work on Egghead.

If that weird ending for Kiku and keeping certain elements around Egghead weren't for the main story, a cover serial is always an option and I could see the logic in setting out as an envoy to the Revolutionary Army. But even there...doesn't Bonney have more of a claim to that? You gotta remember she has the whole "your own captain" thing and it's not like she needed the Straw Hats to get this far. It's really easy if you go a different route to have Bonney and Vegapunk take care of each other's stories.

Which opens up another fun option. Already pondered this when it was Vivi's turn, if Sabo springs her into the Straw Hats story again and Kiku drifted off on a cover serial, it'd be like the brothers did each other a favor. You can extend that with Bonney & Vegapunk. Those two going to Wano isn't a crazy idea. The former could have safe haven to grow up somewhat normally. The latter would be invaluable to reconstruction.

What sticks with me too is something we said about Ginny initially. She's like if you put Nami's personality on this role. Bonney is kinda the same. You certainly have the potential, but it's coming through your mother in a flashback. Kuma's story is great and all, but I want you the think about that Forrest Gump comparison from the chapter review. Even if it isn't intentional, if that's part of a grander story it maybe isn't as much about the man as it seems. It's more about the thread running through great events. That's what I can't shake. Bonney's lineage shows the potential to fill the role and has a lot of connections spelled out. Kiku just quietly showed the skillset and built a bond while her story baited a few potential hooks more pertinent to the Straw Hat's journey.

Was watching A Different Kind of Misty and I fricking hate it so far. Alissa fills me with rage. She tries to HURT some kids and despite their pleas she's all like "yOu GuYs ArE cRiMiNaLs!" because apparently two Fourth Graders and a First Grader (oh and another dude I guess) are criminals and Thatcher doesn't say sh*t until Team Rocket appears. You think that when Ash gives her the Light Stone she'd be like "Huh, strange" and start to realize something's off bug instead she says "wElL tHaT wAs EaSy" and only realizes she was wrong when Team Rocket appears and when Thatcher finally speaks up. Her apology sounded half-a*sed and the "eVeRyOnE mAkEs MiStAkEs 😇" from the Group makes me inner-rage. They have every right to be mad at her. Can she become the new hated Character of the Day along with Samurai? I'm comparing it to that dude with Golurk and friends with Meloetta from the BW anime. Yes, what he tried to do was even worse, but at least he actually sounded genuinley sorry. Got to the "aSh Is ThE hErO" part and I think Thatcher should do this, it'll make me feel better.

In this ninth part of "An Unlikely Alliance Against Evildoers", Samurai Jack is now mind-controlled by the Diamonds and leads their armada while Adora has to make a choice if to go to Earth or stay on Etheria. And obviously the person she has a crush factors into this choice...

°•Mizu Being Jealous•°

Mizu isn't naturally a possessive person by any means. She knows the shit women have to go through, being controlled by others and the world.

So, she'd never be dominating towards you or think she has any say in what you do.

That being said, while she trusts you wholeheartedly... she doesn't trust other people. Particularly other men.

Men who view you as just a pretty face. A prize they'd want nothing more than to steal away from her.

Now that just won't do.

See, if it's an easy matter such as someone touching you or groping you without your consent, say no more.

Their fingers? Gone. Their arms? Sliced clean from their body.

If some sleazy flesh trader sets their eyes on you and begins chatting you up, their hand sneaking to places on your body only meant for her touch alone, well...

They're dead. Plain as that. She'll waste no time in tearing them to shreds with her sword, their viscera painting the walls.

And, with blood stained hands she'll cradle your face, her cold demon exterior vanished.

She'll look at you like you're her whole world, which you are. She will protect you to the ends of the earth.

When it's a lascivious man vying for your attention, Mizu doesn't get jealous. She gets protective.

But, when it's not? Well that's another story.

Sometimes it's a girl at a brothel and she takes a liking to you.

The girl will be sweet where most men aren't. She'll smile at you and gingerly slip her kimono off her shoulder.

The sex worker will talk with you, with the hope of something more. Her eyes shining and all the while you seem to be enjoying yourself.

That sets Mizu on edge. Leaves her feeling twisted inside.

Because you should be with someone else.

Someone not hellbent on revenge. An impure demon with a vengeful, angry soul.

The girl would be a better match maybe or someone like her.

Perhaps not a sex worker but someone who can take care of you better than the blue eyed Samurai. Give you a normal life in ways she cannot, at least not until her revenge is complete.

Mizu won't rescue you from the girl because you're smiling and content. Instead she will let you be, never mind the hollow ache in her chest when she sees you start to laugh.

You were just chatting with the sex worker, conversing on friendly terms, regardless of the girls intentions. But, how could your beloved Samurai know that from a distance?

Like an internal echo in your body, you'll feel Mizu's absence immediately and you'll go out into the snow capped village to find her.

She'll be alone beside a natural hot springs, sapphire eyes sad behind her orange lenses.

You'll curl up at her side as if she were your shelter, your blanket.

You'll know right away how she feels. Having learned how to read her slight expressions like the back of your hand.

Mizu is jealous but more than that. She's feeling like she's not good enough for you.

A ridiculous thought really. She couldn't be more wrong.

You'll reach out to take off her glasses and thread your fingers through her hair, undoing her up-do.

"I love you, Mizu. Only you. It will only ever be you who holds my heart."

Her gaze softens from your tender touch. She'll take your hands in hers and kiss every knuckle.

Her mouth, warm against your skin, travelling up your arm until her tongue reaches the moonlit column of your throat and she plants a wet kiss along your necks pulse.

Mizu doesn't deserve you, she thinks. Still, with you in her arms, open to her, your pupils blown wide with sudden lust... who is she to disagree with your choice?

Perhaps the gods gave you to her. A gift for her cursed existence.

"Say it again." She'll whisper against your flesh, hot to the touch despite the winter. Hot from her.

Her fingers deftly untying your kimono, her hands grabbing at your hips as she pulls into her lap.

Her calloused digits digging into your thighs to spread them for her, your chest pressed against hers...

Her fingers tracing your hipbones, making you shudder...

You gasp when they ghost over your navel and down... and further.

To in between your legs. The spot that craves her and is glistening like the hot springs rippling surface beneath the moon.

"I love you, Mizu." You'll moan.

She can't get enough of the sounds you make. Just for her.

"I belong to you." You'll whimper.

Ah, like music to her ears.

Despite Mizu's feeling of jealousy and her worry of being an undeserving partner, she believes you above all else.

You chose her, a miracle really, so she'll do anything to make you happy.

"You're only mine, huh?" She'll rasp, seeking reassurance, between kisses and gentle bites along your skin.

"Y-Yes. Only yours." You'll pant, her expert fingers bringing you to the edge.

Mizu smirks and holds you even closer. She could tease you longer, draw it out like usual but she wants to be good for you. Give you what you need.

In a moment of softness she brushes her lips against your collarbones...

"I love you. You are my life." She'll say to you before making you come.

I've been dreaming of the King of the Underworld.

Praise be to the King of the Underworld, lonely at the top of his rotting domain.

Before he can save their souls, he must first save himself.

How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die?

This world is a one great big lie.

Idia recognizes it now, clenched in the gaping jaws of the Underworld. Phantoms squirm around him, moaning as their distended limbs claw at the air, seeking out the final shreds of hope in their hellish pit called home. They are prisoners, trapped in Tartarus, and he, a prisoner of his own mind.

He forces himself against the bars that keep him in and violently rattles them. The ceiling above--he's filled with a visceral need to smash it, cracking it wide open.

If he is a beast, then so be it.

He will let them--let himself--out.

A dark power courses through his bloodstream. It soars, sings, uplifting him in his sorrows. It is ignorant of the tears of ink that trail down his pale cheeks and drips onto his armor. Sapphire flames, tattered fabric, and midnight ink swirl around him in a hypnotizing vortex.

He knows this form, this dizzying, addictive strength.

Overblot.

He floats, untouchable, above the masses, and above his staggering opponent. A giant, hulking figure cloaked in a flowing black toga, fire wreathing the glass bottle of its head. It bleeds ink, this being that he has knocked down.

But it is still his inner demon, this Phantom.

It is still Ortho.

It is how he is in real life, and how he appears in his nightmares. A frail soul consumed by the shadows.

Idia throws his head back, letting out a stuttering, panting, mad laugh. He gasps, rasps, chokes, heaves for air. It hurts to breathe, to try and contain his cynical grin in the face of the circumstances.

It’s fake. None of it is real.

That memory…

"Shroud. It's good of you to join us for the Opening Ceremony. Here, take my hand. We can attend the event together."

And that memory…

"That was a fun match 🎵 We completely destroyed the opposing team. Let's go for another round, Gloomy Samurai!"

All of my memories are…!!

"I need to go--my dorm leader's calling--but I'll talk to you later, Nii-chan. Tell me all about your first day of third year, okay? That's a promise!"

His senses spiral, scrambling to make sense of the revelations. They come, one after another, rapid-fire and blinding. A blitz of truths, each a punch to the gut.

He never attended the ceremony, he was holed up in his bedroom. Crimson Muscle is abandoning all of his accounts. And Ortho is... Ortho is...!!

Ortho is dead.

He isn't coming back, ever.

You lost one brother and gained another.

The happy illusion at last cracks. Its pieces fall away, revealing the ugliness beneath the splintered fantasy.

That's right. I'm always being saved by my little brothers.... What a pathetic big brother I turned out to be.

How stupid. How stupid...! Wasn't I... Wasn't I supposed to be the one to save them?

He clenches his fists.

"... Sorry, Ortho. I can't stay." Idia lifts his head, staring intently at the ceiling's closed gates. "I have to go. People are waiting for me."

"Ahahah..." The Phantom shudders, a quiet chuckle reverberating from its glass bottle cranium. No eyes, no lips--but Idia can tell he must be smiling sadly. "That's my big bro."

"Are you going to try and stop me again?" Idia tenses, and his power pulsates at the tips of his fingers, waiting for the command to be given.

"No, I understand. Besides, there's no point! You already beat the Final Boss--I don't have a second form," Ortho replies cheerily. "You just shine way too brightly to be stuck down here and shunned."

"Shine?"

The word gives him pause. Idia has never thought of himself as someone that radiates light. He imagines Cater and Kalim and Rook, tries to place himself beside them.

Him, in his blot-stained armor and gloomy disposition.

He doesn't fit.

"Me?" Idia squeaks. "LMAO. Nice bait there, Ortho. I could never be a part of that world."

"Okay, maybe not that shiny." Ortho bobs his head. "But you get it now, right? This is a strength only you have. You can go and share that amazing strength with everyone."

His curse, a blessing.

His pitiful fortune, reversed.

One last tear slides down his face.

"... Yeah. Yeah, I do,” Idia whispers. “I can.”

I can do this.

Magic pools before him, forming a single sphere of light that cuts through the depths of Tartarus. The Phantoms below vocalize louder and louder, as if in awe, in reverence, even as they balk away from the incredible shine.

"Game, set match. Gate to the Underworld."

At his incantation, a low groan rolls through the pit. Not from the monsters that inhabit it, but from the earth itself. There's a screech, a lurch, and then--

The gates above slowly pry open, letting light seep in.

"It's open. You can leave." Ortho rights himself, offering a large hand to Idia. "Here, hop on. I'll give you a boost!"

"Kk, thnx."

Idia boards--and the difference in scale between him and his "little" brother shocks him. Once, Ortho was two thirds of his height. Now Idia fits in his palm.

"Hang on tight! Keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle, we're outta here!"

The Phantom rises. Higher, higher, higher... to that single spot of light, the thread of hope in hell.

Soon, Idia will be out.

And Ortho will be no more once again.

"... You know, I really liked this," Idia muttered, a hand on Ortho's thumb. "The dream. It was fun while it lasted."

"It was," Ortho agrees, "but dreams can't last forever, can they?"

"No," Idia replies curtly, resolution in his voice, "they can't."

As the word leaves his mouth, Ortho comes to a stop. They've arrived at the cusp, at the border between this place and beyond.

Idia's grip on Ortho's thumb tightens.

"... It's alright, Nii-chan," the Phantom says quietly. "The whole universe is waiting for you."

He fights back a sob.

"Ortho... Of course. Just leave it to your big bro."

“Shoot for glory among the stars and soar like a comet," Ortho recites, poking him in the chest. "Go and get'm--and make many new memories for me, 'kay?"

“Shoot for glory among the stars and soar like a comet," Idia repeats, letting go and leaping into the air.

He blasts off in a blaze of glory, like a hero in the comics and video games. Some gallant figure, off to save the his home, his people.

"Safe travels, Nii-chan!" Ortho's voice calls after him. It's strong at first, but grows weaker as the distance between them grows.

"Good-bye!

"Good-bye...!

"Good... bye..."

"Good-bye, Ortho."

Just a collection of headcanons about the Upper Moon Demons' human lives and just in general.

Upper Moon Six

Daki/Ume Shabana

- Born in 1789 on a Monday ("fair of face"). She was 126 at death.

- Her beauty was immense and breathtaking that she would end up stealing the hearts of other girls' fiancées without even trying. (Much to her brother's annoyance)

- She used to have a fear of the dark. Every night, she would cry for Gyutaro to hold her hand before drifting off to sleep. She would obviously later get over this fear after becoming a Demon.

- At the age of ten, Ume would start her period. Long story short... she woke up screaming and kicking to a bloody mess at 1:00 in the morning, crying for Gyutaro who thought she had been stabbed. By that time, their mother passed away who left neither of her children knowledge about menstruals.

- Still, she would do her best to counter the bleeding monthly. She wouldn't be aware of the causes until three years later, when she would become a courtesan.

- Prior to stabbing a samurai in the eye with the hair pin he bought for her, Ume was quite fond of him. He would bring her gifts, shower her with compliments, and treat her like a princess. However, he never truly love for Ume as the samurai only care for her incredible pretty appearance. He was shocked and disgusted to have found out her sibling relations to Gyutaro thus insulting the latter enough to enrage Ume.

- She was truly the epitome of feminine beauty. Her face was oval-shaped and very symmetrical, with high cheekbones, a willows peak, and a gentle pointed chin. Her eyes were otherworldly breathtaking and dazzling: large, angular, (tapered) double-lidded, bright, sparkling, and tilted upwards with primarily lapis blue irises fading into more sapphire and artic blue shades... and completed with gracefully long, voluminous dark lashes. Her nose slim and dainty with a tiny bump on the bridge and a rounded tip. Her lips were plump, luscious, pouty, rosy pink, and had a natural shine to them creating an adorable smile. Her hair was very thick and had high-density; had notes of sweet plum blossoms, soft Mandarin oranges, and earthly sandalwood; zero signs of heat/sun damage, soft like silk, and always neatly trimmed; a pale silver color with a faint lilac hue that she would frequently wear in a mane alongside lively waterfall. Her eyebrows slim and her ears typically oval-shaped though slightly bigger than average with a bit long, softly shaped diamond-like eyelobes made perfect for any type of earring. Her skin was smooth, unblemished, unscratched, and pale like the moonlight with a natural breathtaking glow and a faint blush on her cheeks. Even in her human years, Ume was quite tall for her age.

- Daki lets Gyutaro consume all the blood from her victims while she mostly ate their flesh, hair, organs, eyes, and joysticks (if they got). She doesn't like blood unless it is type AB/marechi blood.

- If you were to interrogate Tanjiro what scent she had, he'd say it reminded him of: Lemony, honeyed amber, and sweet plum blossoms as top notes, then lily-from-the-valley, tuberose, liquorice, and soft Mandarin oranges for the middle notes, lastly vanilla, white musk, earthy sandalwood, and warm cedarwood as the base notes. Along with that, as a Demon, Daki carried a faint smell of human blood, a faint mixture of the skin odors of her victims, and ruthlessness.

Daki also liked to spray on a tiny bit of perfume, "Sakura no kuchizuke" was her favorite. A very sweet-smelling fragrance with top notes of sparkling yuzu, rose petal essence, and soft peach; middle notes of cherry blossom absolute, orange blossom water, and jasmine sambac; base notes of creamy vanilla bean, white musk, and soft woods (a blend of sandalwood and cedarwood).

- While under disguise, Daki had 12 identities in Yoshiwara. Tsukinahime with her raven-black tresses and captivating yet cold silverly pale yellow eyes (like the moon); Sayekahime with her very dark chocolate brown hair and emerald green eyes; Hibarihime with her cruel treatment towards fellow Keisha; Yurahime rumors linking her to the disappearance of certain swordsmen passing by; Shikimehime whose clients disappeared without a trace; Kagerōhime with a temper as large as her beauty; Ochayahime with her striking eyes the color of green tea; Yatamahime who was a beautiful as she was vain; Ginseihime with her dark purple highlights and ominous aura; Akatsuhime with her timeless beauty; Machiyahime with her mysterious ways; and finally Warabihime before her defeat.

- The reason why not a lot of people recognized Daki through her various identities simply had to do with the changing fashion/beauty standards throughout the years. That and she'd kill anyone who figures out her secret.

- Her ideal type is someone like Akaza, Master Muzan, and Aizetsu... and maybe even Tengen if he became a Demon. She likes men who can at least keep up with her on the battlefield, if he's more powerful than her its bonus points, taller than 5'4 (she doesn't mind hooking up with guys shorter than her just as long as they are gorgeous. Either way, shorter guys are fun to dominate), no blemishes or creepy scars (the only reason why she kept calling Tanjiro unattractive was his apparent puberty bumps, big forehead and scar.), clean and tidy, extremely handsome and beautiful, perfect, and has a sexy voice.

- For some annoying reason, Douma would keep addressing Daki as "daughter" for fun. This usually gets on the Obi Demon's nerves, though more so out of embarrassment rather than resentment.

Gyutaro/Kurunai Shabana

- Born in 1779 on a woeful Wednesday. He was 136 at death.

- In his human years, he was nicknamed "Kurunai" (a play on the word "Kitanai" meaning dirty/filthy) for his raggedy, rather unclean appearance. This name, which started out as a derogatory insult later became a symbol of strength in Gyutaro's eyes.

- The reason he never cleaned himself was due to lack of motivation. He finds very little purpose in taking baths or grooming his hair because of his own lack of interest in most things.

- Even if he were to clean up, the young urchin had little hopes it'd make a difference.

- His parents were never married. His father wanted nothing more than to bang Ms. Shabana and on top of all that, that dude had tons of other chicks. So if Gyutaro tells you that his dad went to get milk, he means literally.

- Kurunai wasn't born 'hideous', but due to life circumstances and hygiene issues ー People from Yoshiwara's Rashomon Riverbank dubbed him the "ugliest". His oval-shaped face was sickly thin and filthy, and not to mention because of his premature birth, his head and brain are slightly bigger than average. His eyes were sunken, bloodshot and bruised, thinnish and slanted downwards a bit asymmetrically, big and double-lidded like his sister's but always worn in a tired/sleepy half-opened expression; his irises used to be the same lapis blue color as Ume's but had gotten shades lighter and foggy overtime. His black hair was like a dirty mop of split ends, knots, coarseness, sweat, and fleas; it had a unpleasant odor of sweat and tangy onions. His nose was flat and crooked, and often bruised and bleeding from getting punched; four different types of scars and many sunspots live on his skin. His ears were the same as Ume's; slightly big with loose-diamond shaped eyelobes. Plenty of his teeth were knocked out. To top it all, Kurunai was always covered in dirt and grim.

- According to Kurunai's mother, in Hell, she believes if her son was born to a better household, Kurunai would've turned out much better. She also thinks with the proper treatment and resources, the lad would've came out above average-looking if he tried.

- When questioned about Gyutaro's scent, Tanjiro confessed it was one of the least distinctive ones he could remember: Top notes of several different types of human blood, bloodwood, and desert ironwood; Middle notes of A+ blood, animal blood, poison ivy, and dried musk; Base notes of O negative blood, B negative blood, sour onions, moldy leather, and century year old gym socks (like a lot of demons). Sun-Breath User would associate the smell of constant deep vengeance with the Mantis guy.

- Though Douma gave the both of them a large amount of his blood, Gyutaro requested him to take it easy on Ume not wanting it to backfire and lose his sister completely. After that, the siblings were reunited and overjoyed. Douma even let them have his leftover Geisha snack.

- He gets drunk on blood very easily. His ideal snack is a glass of human blood and a disembodied hand on the side. This would help enhance his blood demon art.

- He likes weed.

- Douma calls Gyutaro "son" sometimes which the latter seems to tolerate. It was nice having a parental figure in his life that doesn't constantly beat him. For fun, the cult leader tried finding his comrade a girlfriend... It didn't turn out so good and a Hashira actually showed up.

- Not to mention, Upper Moon 2 gives Gyutaro nightmares/daymares. Once when he was just asleep inside his sister's shadow, the usual, the poison demon had a truly horrifying dream of fighting Douma and losing.

Douma's blood cells might have something to do with that.

Any Title Would Sound Like a Prince Song

Nami...thank you for incidentally making my favorite little gag moment in the arc so on point for today. I'll admit I have incorporated the fearsome Future Kick into my repertoire and use it on my boyfriend. A flower made of jewels would really solve my entire conundrum here. Bonney & Kiku. It didn't take me long to point out how well Jewelry Bonney could pick up the thread Kiku weaves through Wano. I literally did when she popped out of the water bubble.

Now that she's been properly utilized, it's time to evaluate. Yesterday's chapter review touched on this. Unlike the mirror opposite dynamic with Yamato, Bonney just tracks more and more with Kiku's odd role in this story. But there's still a couple of nagging questions. Let's take a day to take stock:

So first of all it's worth a refresher. We were already looking at the fact Kiku has a lot of untapped potential and the right background for a Quartermaster before Wano ended. Which it did, but not without playing heavily into the core aspects of how that would work and leaving Kiku conspicuously open-ended. Egghead didn't take long to set up a couple of things that could still leave that door open, and through that lens her story could be seen as being "kept warm" by elements consistently floating around. A theory at least somewhat bolstered by the Academy spinoff blatantly setting up the same shell game with Kiku & Yamato. A type of twist that works well with the classy, unassuming lady.

Enter Bonney. I had reservations but always thought she fit the bill for someone who could sensibly take that torch. Problem was, she was on the backburner for much of Egghead. An arc now about as long as Punk Hazard. Now that she's back in the limelight she actually is getting the right kind of build for that same role. Not to mention Ginny fitting it to a T. Like I said yesterday, it works for Kiku as the imposing but sweet big sister. A wifey vibe almost. Bonney is more the sharp-tongued, bossy little sister. These both just...work on this fundamental character design level. It's that idea you need to fit a role on the crew but also in an anime ensemble. Both have some "special" markers and both are fairly popular faces with solid stories already. Stories that have good prior hooks to justify a late addition.

Tale of Two Hannya, point with Kiku & Yamato is that Wano is almost a kind of jidaigeki double feature. When a core theme seems to be what we want to do vs. what we feel like we have to do...you gotta wonder about our author doing the same thing. The two split Luffy's story, mirror opposites, why would you ever focus on flashy but flawed here for half the arc over humble with hidden depths always at the edge of the limelight? Now...we're moving on to a sci-fi B movie with something different for Bonney. She's the same thing. Could fill the same role. Can't fault her for being a hothead here because it's not unlike Kanjuro and we've seen Bonney be the level head.

If you ask me, what will be the most telling is what happens when we get back. Are we jumping into the same scene? Bonney could collect herself and show a superhuman amount of composure made all the more compelling by knowing how young she is. Last arc the Supernova buddies took down Big Mom. Bonney could believably show out, girl threw a nasty kick at Luffy and tanked one from the Frontier Dome. If Egghead pulls it again and does something weird with our return to the main story? Then you gotta go back to asking who threads the needle on these vignettes we've jumped through.

FEAR IN YOUR BLOODSTAINED EMERALDS

A blue eye samurai fanfiction by yours truly

(kinda slightly Mizu x Fowler but not necessarily,, js read to find out 😭) 

(Set in England, where Fowler helps Mizu track down the 2 remaining white men - Skeffington and Routley)

(PS. I'm not familiar with sparring, combat fighting, war, history, weapons or any of the sort so I apologize in advance if this is OOC, or not aligned to the actual show! And this was kindda rushed)

"Let's see what ya got, little miss." Fowler says, in a dangerously low voice. His lips curved in a taunting smile as his emerald orbs stared intensely into Mizu's sapphire ones. Mizu grits her teeth in irritation, glaring at the man with hatred. "Oh my, I can see your eyes filled with hatred.." he rasps, voice filled with venom. "I like that, you better not hold back.." he pauses before he clicks his tongue. "Little miss." 

Mizu growls, charging right towards Fowler, but right before they were too close, she draws her sword, dragging the blade across the earth then pushing it deep before shifting her body weight to the weapon, then jumping in the air, drawing out a dagger knife as she slashes it towards Fowler who managed to dodge but with a scratch. "Hm, not bad." He comments, watching the cut the dagger knife left on his shoulder. But just before he could get more than a few seconds to catch his breath, Mizu attacked again, trying to hit him relentlessly but Fowler kept dodging, his grin growing wider with each attempt. He laughs, shaking his head. “You'll have to try harder.. Little miss.” He says, charging towards Mizu, falling on top of her. There was a sadistic glint in his eyes as he pulled out a gun, aiming it at Mizu. But luckily for Mizu, she was quick on her feet and managed to kick Fowler in the groin, pushing him off and making him growl in pain.

“I thought we weren't using a gun.” She scowls at the sight of the weapon. “Now whoever said I would agree to those conditions?” He spits out, before palming his nether region as he eyed the samurai before he points the gun at her direction yet again. 

That was when he pulled the trigger. 

Fortunately for Mizu, she was quick to dodge the bullet, slipping into the ground and sliding towards Fowler, grabbing her sword and kicking his feet making the white man lose his balance and fall into the ground with the gun in his hand. She stomps her feet onto the gun, preventing Fowler from using it as she presses her blade against his neck. She grits her teeth, the blade drawing blood from his neck. She glares at him, their faces so close. “You're crazy.” He whispers, staring into her blue orbs. “Yet your eyes are so pretty.” He rasps, voice edging with venom but there was a tiny drop of sincerity in it. Mizu scowls, grabbing the gun in Fowler's hand and throwing it away. “Don't try to flatter your way out of this.” She whispers as she gets off of him, fixing her clothes. 

“I mean it, little miss.”

She watched as they restrained him, while also being restrained by the white men surrounding her. Fear flashed in her eyes of the impending doom about to be bestowed upon Fowler. "ABIJAH!!!" She screams as for the first time, she sees genuine fear in the man's eyes. Fear, pain, which she thought was impossible to see from a man like him. He was a brute, an absolute devil who traded guns, opium and flesh. A man who you can tell has tasted flesh raw. A sadist who you could tell is very familiar with the iron taste of blood. Who has killed and sold hundreds - if not, thousands of innocent people. But yet.. Here he was, his emerald eyes shining in fear, looking at Mizu with hurt. “Mizu.. ” He tries to scream back, fighting against his restraints. "Mizu..!!"

"ABIJAH!!!" She screams again, trying to escape the white men. She didn't even notice the shogun that was there, Taigen, Akemi, Takayoshi.. They were there. But all Mizu could see was Fowler, in his restraints.

Mizu yelled and growled, watching as the men tried to put a clothed bag over Fowler's eyes while he tried to escape. And he did, for a moment. He was able to free one of his hands, reaching out to Mizu desperately. 

Mizu furrowed her brows, eyes wide as she tried to reach out for Fowler's hand as well, but was unable to with the distance that separated them. Mizu watched as the white men laughed, dragging a knife against Fowler's neck while the other pointed a gun to his head. “Why do you care so much? Didn't you want to kill him anyways?” the man pointing a gun to Fowler questions. “And yet you're here, screaming for him.”

“Pathetic..”

Mizu growls, watching the men smile at both of them with pure evil before they turn to Fowler who was on his knees, restrained. "You deserve this, Fowler. You traitor." Routely grumbles to him. Skeffington only laughs, pressing the blade against Fowler's neck, making the man grit his teeth. "Goodbye." He said, just before pulling the trigger.

It was all black, and time in slow motion as Mizu watched the man being executed for being a traitor. For giving illegal information to Mizu, and for trying to help her find Skeffington and Routley.

Mizu's eyes were filled with horror, hurt, anger, anguish, as her heart dropped. Everyone was quiet except for the two that were now beside the bleeding Fowler. “Farewell.. Little miss." He said in a low, soft voice, his lips curving into a small soft smile. "I… hope you manage to.. kill.. them."

That was when Mizu could feel herself change. There was something more than what she felt.. Something was brewing in her, something was coming out of her. She growled loudly, screaming as she recklessly fought against her restraints, biting off the flesh of the ones who held her captive so she could be free. She screamed with all of her might, as she charged towards Routley and Scaffington who were in shock. She drew out a gun. A European pistol. One Fowler gave to her. She screams as she smacks Routely’s face repeatedly with the pistol before grabbing his hair and kicking his face over and over again in full rafe. Skeffington glared, about to stab her with the dagger but Mizu was quick to shoot him with the gun she held. The army around her saw this and was ready to aim fire at Mizu but they immediately fell to the ground, blood pooling out from their bodies. But Mizu didn't even notice it. After Scaffington had been shot, she was still kicking Routley over and over again until there was a big pool of blood surrounding her. That was when she continued to hear the slashes of swords against the flesh, slicing them into two and the sound of gunshots but she was too lost to fully notice it. The sound of death and slaughter around her was a barely audible sound. She could only focus on one thing and that was kicking Routely’s face over and over and over again. It went on for how long until she let go of Routely who was now bleeding profusely. She gasps for air, taking in the oxygen, panting as she falls to her knees in front of Fowler who was now dead. Her eyes filled with hurt, her chest feeling like it had been stabbed multiple times as she brought his upper torso to her lap. She grits her teeth, looking at his bleeding dead body. 

That was when she heard footsteps approaching her, she looked up, pointing the gun towards whomever dared came close to her. That was when her sapphire blue eyes met the brown eyes of her people. The Shogun. Taigen. Akemi. 

“You… You did this.” She growls, still pointing the gun towards them. “Now, now Mizu, calm down.” They put their weapons down as they came close to Mizu. “You did amazing..!” Taigen says a bit proudly. “You saved us. You saved us all.” The elder son of the Shogun says, smiling. “You're a hero to Japan. Without you we could have been doomed.”. 

“Perhaps you will be appointed as a new lord! Wouldn't you like that? “

“You.. Fuckers.. A hero?! A lord?!” She snaps, glaring at them. “You were here the entire time! You watched!! You all watched as they killed Fowler!!” She screams, her voice faltering the more she talked as she glanced at the man. Everyone looked at her in complete confusion. “Didn't you want to kill him? You wanted him dead. You let yourself on the brink of death just to kill him.”

“And now you're upset that he's dead..?”

Mizu widens her eyes as she looks at them. She took a look around everyone and then at Fowler. Indeed.. She did want him dead. And the other two as well. But why..? Why is she so hurt about it now? It was like an internal dilemma boiling inside her. She felt so conflicted. It was stupid.

“You were so eager to kill them.”

Indeed she was. But it.. Hurt.

Nobody showed up except her. Nobody but the half Japanese half white woman dressed in all black with a hat and yellow tinted glasses. She was holding a bouquet of blood red chrysanthemums. They looked, gorgeous. And pretty. She sighed, gulping in the lump in her throat. “I did.. I killed them.” She then raises her sleeves, revealing her cross tattoo that had dots on each side except for one side. 

“I killed the men I was sworn to kill. For my revenge.” She says, looking at the name that was engraved into the gravestone. “I killed them, except for one that I failed to kill.” Her voice goes lower, and softee. “I failed to kill you..” She whispers. “You didn't die by my blade or hand.” She sniffles to what seemed to be a sob. But you couldn't really tell. She places the bouquet gently on his grave. “They killed you.” She whispers. 

“Maybe because I couldn't..“

Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace walk away, Mummy Casks creaking open sound. Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace are shocked and scared to go backwards away to fearful and notice that Shaggy in disguise as Caveman with a stone weapon survives against Scooby in disguise as Sabertooth.

He backs away as he accidentally press the button on the display Shaggy and Scooby are standing still on, which causes the lights to go on as the speaker speaks, scaring him and causing him to drop his paperwork.

Speaker: Early man’s struggle for survival was a harsh one. (Dr. Dean looks behind him at it and sighs in relief.) Threats to his existence were everywhere.

Speaker: Fortunately, man had his greater intelligence to help him survive.

Two warrior monsters with their weapons appear out of the tomb, preparing to attack them. Shaggy and Scooby get scared upon seeing this.

Speaker: It is with the use of tools that humans learned to overcome their savage enemies. Please move to the next exhibit.

The Lights on the exhibit go off as the warriors move slowly toward Dr. Dean. Dean had just finished picking up his paperwork when the warriors raised their weapons.

Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace picked papers back together in folders. Four Mummies are scared of Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace that Shaggy and Scooby warn behind you. Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace are scared that the exhibits are real life. Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace are fleeing.

Rest Mystery Teams and Scooby Doo Team have chased after four Mummies chased them. Shaggy and Scooby are scary. Two mysterious tripped four mummies to crash. They meet Two mysterious steps out from behind the curtains.

Daphne: Who are they?

Velma: I don’t believe it! You’re Ben Ravencroft!

Matilda: Oh my God! You’re Flik Galloway!

Sarah: Hm? Do they have fans of Two Horror Writers?

Velma: The famous horror writer! 

Matilda: Yes! I’ve read a few of his books before. 

Horror Writer: That’s right. 

Other Horror Writer: Yes, right. 

The man is now known as Mr. Ben Ravencroft, other man is now known as Flik Galloway smiling them

Ben: Now let’s see who they are 

Flik: Agree.

Ben walked up to the 4 monsters before taking off one of their masks. Flik took off one of their masks. 

Dr. Dean: It’s Perkins!

Dr. Chace: ! it’s Blake! 

Velma then took off the other mask, Matilda took off the other mask too 

Velma: And Griswald!

Matilda: And Hugo!

Sarah: Disgruntled archaeologists from the museum's Babylonian project. They were upset with you for cutting their funding, Dr. Dean and Dr. Chace.

Perkins: And we would've gotten away with it too. If it wasn't for this meddling… writer!

Blake: Agreed... Meddling Writer!

The guards arrest them.

Shaggy: Like, that’s a twist.

Fred: Yeah, well, at least, he didn't call us kids. I hate that.

Daphne (To Ben): Guess you beat us to the punch, Mr. Ravencroft.

Sarah (To Flik): What that’s true? Mr. Galloway.

Ben: Sorry, I didn't mean to upstage you.

Flik: Right, true

Fred: So what WERE you doing here?

Ben: I was doing research on my latest novel when I saw the archaeologists acting suspiciously and decided to investigate.

Flik: Hmm, I think.

Velma: Mr. Ravencroft, I am a huge fan of your work. I have read all your books in which my opinion are the best horror stories ever written.

Matilda: Mr. Galloway, I'm a fan of your work, I have read all your books with horror. The best horror stories ever written.

She shakes his hand.

Ben (Taken aback by her enthusiasm): Uh, thanks, Velma.

Velma: (gasps in amazement) You know my name?

Flik: Uh, thanks, Matilda.

Matilda: You know my name? Right.

Ben: And Daphne's and Fred's. (Scooby taps his shoulder with his tail get to his attention on him and Shaggy) (Chuckles) And Scooby and Shaggy of course.

Scooby: (Giggling)

Flik: Wait, Mystery Inc. with Mystery Teams? Right.

Ben: I've admired your work unraveling supernatural mysteries for some time now. I mean, basically we're in the same business of mystery and the occult, right?

Flik: Hm, it’s supernatural horror mysteries... same business is a mystery... true.

Velma: Oh please, what we do pales in comparison with the sheer palpable fright of your novels.

Ben: I wouldn't say that.

Velma: I mean, take the Dead Mall for example; oh, that creepy jewelry store owner was an incredibly complex character.
