Hello~ it's me again (i'm the problem, it's me~)
So I have a kinda angstt request
So headcanons for Naruto characters x reader, where reader and Naruto characters break up, and the next day around evening, reader calls them and leaves them a message:
"Hi, it's me. I know I'm not supposed to be calling but I am not doing really great right now, and I was just wondering if... Do you remember in "The Way We Were" how Katie and Hubbel broke up because his friends were laughing and joking and the president had just died, and she yelled at them, and he was mad and he was going out to Hollywood, and, I mean which she hated and, and he broke up with her. And she was really upset and she called him, and asked him if he would come over and sit with her, because he was her best friend, and she needed her best friend and he did. And, and they talked all night, and they went out to Hollywood, which was a disaster but it was good at first, with the boat and, uh, and the putting the books away. I've seen this movie a lot so if you don't remember the putting-the-books-away scene, don' feel stupid or anything. I was just sitting here thinking about it because, I, um... I'm in my house and I was just, uh... could you please come over? I-, please, really need to see you and talk to you and please come over... please"
So the boys listen to the message and the question is: what do they do? Do they go and come over like reader asked?
Kinda angsty, but please do whatever you want to do with it <3
Toodles~

Sasuke Uchiha :  His ego took a big hit when you broke up with him. He's hurt. But he suspects that his behavior and his coldness undoubtedly had a role to play. When he listens to your message he shakes his head "Of course you can call me, Silly Girl" then continues smiling bitterly at how you apologize again even though there's no need to. He's told you so many times not to apologize to him. His hands tighten around the phone to the point of breaking it when he hears you begging him to come over. Suddenly there's hope for him, for both of you. He doesn't waste a second before he gets up and puts on his sandals before running to your house. He runs from roof to roof, knocking loudly on the door. And as soon as you open it, he looks at you as if you've just disturbed him. And then in a rush he grabs your face in his hands and kisses you "Not without you... impossible" he says between kisses. But maybe none of this happens and he decides to leave the village after you've broken up. There's no point in staying and hurting each other.
Sasori : He doesn’t want to look at his phone. Probably didn’t even notice he got a text. If he knew maybe he would have checked. If he knew it was you maybe he would have been faster. He sees your text something like 3 or 4 days later. And he panics. He rushes to where he knows you are. He doesn’t even bother to settle inside his big armor puppet. He needs to be sure you’re okay. He already hates himself knowing he let you waiting and he hates this more than having to wait himself. He doesn’t knock, he just enters. Once he sees you there standing in front of him he feels a pang of regret in his heart. How did he ever think he was able to go on without you “I won't waste any more of your time” He is also considering making a puppet out of you if this situation of breaking up ever comes back.
Genma Shiranui : He just doesn't take it seriously. He is too much of a child in his behavior yet. He knows he is handsome and that he can get bitches whenever he wants. The need to settle down was never really felt. So when you broke up well he was almost relieved, it was like a return to freedom. When he got your message though he felt bad. He knows he won't be able to be the man you want him to be for the time being. So he does one of the worst things - in my opinion - he sends you a text back “I’m sorry for what I’m making you go through. I love you and you know that. But you also know that I can’t just change like this and be happy with it” he doesn’t want to conclude his text. He secretly hopes that one day one person will suffice him. On the other hand of the line though, you cry. You knew from the beginning you wouldn’t be able to change him. It’s hope that brought you there
Naruto Uzumaki : He is so sad when you break up. He even stops going to Ichiraku’s ramen shop. He feels lonely like he never did. But he has hope. He knows it can’t be over just yet. You have so much more to live. When he gets your text he doesn’t even open the notification he just runs to your house. He doesn’t know why you reached to him but his instinct is telling him to get there as soon as possible. When you open the door he has a goofy smile on his face as he pulls you in a bone crushing hug. it’s only when he feels you sobbing that he pulls away to wipe away your tears with his thumbs “Hey why are you crying ? I’m here now”
Rock Lee : He is crushed since you broke up with him. He trains even harder. He doesn’t even hear his phone ringing once, twice. He doesn’t hear the notification signaling your text either. It’s either Neji or Tenten who tries to catch his attention. Once they do though and he actually focuses on your text there is no going back. He is going to scream your name in the whole village to find you as soon as he can. He will hug the hell out of you and apologize more than enough for not being the best boyfriend he could have been “No please let me hug you longer to make up for the time I was away. I’ll be 10- No ! 30 times better than before you’ll see !” Don’t worry he’s forgetting you two broke up as soon as he’ll feel your skin against his. Though he’ll always remember that your love is not granted. He is going to be even more the best for you.
Kakashi Hatake : He didn’t want you two to break up, but he couldn’t help but chuckle sadly. He knew this was going to come at some point. I mean look at you, how could he ever deserve all that to be his to love and cherish. Though when he gets your text his heart is close to jumping out of his chest. His mind starts wandering. He thinks about his father and he hopes. He just hopes it’s a genuine want to see him again and not the final plea for help before you… “No no don’t be stupid” he shakes his head “Y/n is strong” The pace of his strides betrays his growing anxiety as he rushes to your home “Please please please” he ends up being the one pleading When you open the door, the need to be sure you’re okay is too strong. his eyes explore your body to see any trace of injury. it’s only after that he pulls you in a gentle embrace as if scared to break you “I can’t leave without you. I couldn’t never. Let’s restart with something new. I couldn't take you to dinner tonight. How does that sound ?”
Sai :  When you told him you wanted to break up, he replied, "Well, you're entitled to whatever I think", rather matter-of-factly. I mean he was right, but it wasn’t what you wanted, needed to hear at the moment. He wasn't really very good at navigating relationships, and this was representative of his lack of experience in the sentimental field. Every intense moment was counterbalanced by laborious moments when he struggled to find his feet with you. So it's no surprise that he's not sure how to react to your voicemail. He takes a few notes - still behaving like a ninja of the Root - and even if he doesn't know what he would have done under normal circumstances. There's a clear message at the end of the audio "Please come over" and so he follows the order and goes to your place. He can't account for the turmoil in his heart or the way his hands become clammy and fidgeting at his sides as if something important were at stake. Finally, when you open the door and he sees your tear-reddened eyes, he can't help but say "I love you too"
Gaara : His eyes impossibly widened when he got your text. He thought everything between you two was over. He didn’t think about any possibilities of luck that will bring you back together. You on the other hand needed to know. When you mentioned breaking up he shut himself off. Yes he tried to speak back a little but he made sure not to talk over you nor at the same time. It wasn’t the greatest solution. Sensing the urgency in your tone he just can’t help but leapt off his chair and run - literally - throughout the corridors. You, on your side also thought about the possibility of him hesitating to come over so you also decided to make your way to his office. you ended up bumping into one another in a corner “Sorry, are you okay ?” he mumbles. But when he notices it's you his arms wrap instinctively around you as his head nestles in the crook of your neck. He doesn’t want to let go anymore, and he doesn’t care that he is in the middle of a public passageway. He shudders in your arms as he loses his grip on his emotions. You pull him in a gentle embrace as you drag him to a more quiet place to have a much needed discussion. Maybe you two would be able to work after all.
Iruka Umino : He lies awake in his bed the night that follows your break up. He just can’t wrap his head about what happened. It was just so unexpected and out of frustration. The day after, everyone knows that something is wrong with him. He lost his smile, he loses his temper rapidly and he is constantly lost in thoughts. When he gets your text he is actually on his phone. He was about to send you something similar. his heartbeats are ringing in his ears as he stands up suddenly. It doesn’t matter where he is at the moment. If he is in class, he is going to find an excuse, push some kids aside and zoom to where you are. As he runs to your house he can’t help the tears streaming down his face. He is just so sensitive. As you open the door you both fall into each other's arms crying. You start kissing sloppily as your tears stream towards your mouths. You both made a mistake by considering the mere thought of breaking up, and you’re not doing this mistake ever again “I won’t let this happen ever again. I won’t let go. Never”
Tobirama Senju : Probably screams “Okay fine you wanna break up ? Well just get the fuck out of here then !” when he feels you slipping from his grasp. He loves you, he really does. But he has too much pride. His little heart is crushed. His brother notices and tries to speak with him but Tobirama tells him to fuck off. When He finally gets your text his pride is still wounded and he doesn’t know if he pushes it aside and gets over to you or if he deletes the text and acts as if he didn’t see anything. Well he doesn’t do both. He doesn’t come to see you but he keeps the text. You’re extremely hurt that he doesn’t come. Until one day you hear a soft knock on your door. It’s Hashirama who comes to apologizes for his little brother’s behavior. Seeing you this sad makes him snap and he actually goes back to his brother and lectures his brother with the Hokage tone. Tobirama is shocked but at the end it reminds him that you’re more important than any pride he could ever have. It takes time for you to forgive him but slowly you start building your future together.
Yamato : Well he lowkey thought that the idea of breaking up would provide you both with more time to train and increase your already impressive level. But he was so wrong. Now, even more than before all his thoughts were turned toward you. What were you doing ? With who ? Were you sad ? Happy ? Thinking about him too ? Did you still love him ? Would you forgive him if he were to tell you that his idea was the dumbest ever and that he regrets and wants you back ? Then his phone buzzed and he got that frightening text. He, in fact, didn’t understand it the way one normally would. He thought you were rambling and that someone broke into your house and you needed help. He leaves in a rush and once in front of your door kicks it off its hinges. Damn, you panicked because you thought someone was breaking in “Y/n ! Are you okay !?” “Yamato ? My door ?!? The fuck ?!?” Well let’s just say that after repairing it he offered to take you out tonight and catch up around some delicious ramen.
Neji Hyuga : He literally didn’t see it coming. First thing, there was a rumor. And then he found himself single. He is going to investigate to know who the hell did this. When he receives your text though he panics at the clear need in your tone. He uses his Byakugan to look for you throughout the village, to make sure you’re okay. Before going over to your house he takes his time buying you flowers and whatever you might like. But he always keeps an eye on you despite the distance. Then he finally gets to your door and he takes a deep breath before knocking “Hello Y/n. I’ve got you these. I hope we’ll be able to talk this out- oof” you took him in a bone crushing hug almost tackling him to the floor. He shushes you as you cry against his chest saying how sorry you are. Next thing you know he is taking you inside and you’re gonna get spoiled rotten.
Minato Namikaze : Bro is fast, yes. But not so fast anymore when it’s about women’s feelings. And sometimes it’s almost as if he was managing to drown a fish. When you broke up he kinda knew it was going to happen because of how clueless he was most of the time. While reading your text he can’t help but feel sick when he sees how desperately you are pleading him to come. Just like you’be pleaded to him to understand your point that day. He doesn’t lose a sec to rush to your favorite bakery. He takes some snacks and literally throws the money on the counter top. When he arrives in front of your door he almost goes through like a Cartoon “Hey my Love I brought you some- sorry maybe you don’t want me to call you that. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have-” He doesn’t have time to finish speaking because you pounce on him and crash your lips against his. He will need to do a lot of effort to improve his ability to talk in a relationship but this is a good first step.
Itachi Uchiha : That was only a story of pressure and expectation. You thought yourself not at the level of an Uchiha and that was what made your couple burst. He is literally so mad at everyone that participated in putting these thoughts in your sweet mind. He hâtes himself even more for not seeing it coming. When you leave him the voicemail he gets anxious of what may be happening. He almost lost his best friend once and he wasn’t going to lose you too. So he immediately dials your number “Hey Y/n Don’t move an inch you hear me ? I’m coming over right now” And he is true to his word because not even 4 minutes after he is at your doorstep, panting. He takes you gently against him as his face nuzzles against your hair. Your scent helps him ground himself in the present. You didn’t know yet but he was going to change the traditions, for you he would do anything.
Hashirama Senju : He feels ashamed and sad. Sad because he doesn’t want to spend a single day of his life without you. Ashamed because he has always lowkey thought that something like this could only happen to his brother. And here he was getting a lecture from his younger brother, about how he isn’t the confident man he displays himself to be as the Hokage. Tobirama’s words were unnerving and actually pushed Hashirama to get some courage to talk to you. Tobirama’s plan worked just well. He is actually in front of your door when he gets the text. you wonder how the heck he got here so fast. You both talk things out and it gets better for both of you. He reads the text later on and ends up crying “I-I’m so so sorry sniff I didn’t know it made you feel like this sniff” Your fingers comb through his hair as you try to calm him down. He ends up sleeping on your lap with his arms tightly wrapped around you.
NSFW starts here :
Orochimaru : The mere idea of breaking up with him was always foreign and distressing to him. How you, his adorable Pet, would find yourself with this idea. But it happened. A mixture of several ingredients meant that the two of you finally parted ways. and as luck would have it, the mating season had begun. He couldn't stand jerking off without having his soul mate to fill with his seed. And then finally, like a miracle, your message arrived. If he could run naked into his hideout, he would. He got dressed in a hurry and headed for your room. Once inside you weren't in as good a shape as he was "Oh no look at you Pet. So wet and ready for me. Here I'm going to fill you and you''l get so much better" In the end, the break-up was mainly due to your hormones going all over the place. But if he gets you pregnant, I don't know if that'll help your hormones or his possessiveness.
Shikamaru Nara : For someone who doesn't like to stress out even in critical life-or-death situations, in this case he did.He couldn't breathe for a moment. Your voicemail sent a pang through his heart. He couldn't breathe for a moment. He remembered your break-up, and at the time he'd just said something like "Ah, women and their emotions'' He hurried to find you. When you opened the door he almost tackled with a strength he wasn't the first to display in common days. You found yourself pinned against a well as he spoke lowly "I'm here now. what do you need" and when you said you needed him, you didn't know it would end up in one of the best sex you ever shared with him. You're a keeper and he is never going to take your feelings not accordingly.
Hidan : Bro doesn’t care at all when you break up. He’s probably just going to get some bitches to make up for your absence. Of course you’re going to know about it. either by yourself, by other people or him bragging. You wonder what being in a relationship means for him. What this whole thing brought you at the end. Were you just some cum dump ? You needed to know, so you sent the text. He comes over like you requested but he isn’t a liar. He tells you right away that he isn’t the one to fall in love. Having sex with you is just convenient as you know how to touch him and bring him to ecstasy. He isn’t against becoming your sex friend if you’re still up to it “It’s a great reminder to how everything started between us, don’t you think Princess” - those fucking nicknames, he doesn’t how much pain they do to you. But you love him and the whole thing seems toxic if extended. Though you answer yes, at least you’ll get to spend more time with him. And maybe he’s going to grow up at some point. you’re not losing hope. And that’s what may destroy you.
Madara Uchiha : He always thought that besides loving him you needed him in your life. Just like he loved and needed you. But after the break up he is not sure anymore. He spends days passing back and forth trying to understand what brought you to this. Your text brings a smile of relief on his lips as he feels his shoulders release some tension. You did need him. So he comes over. And he handles the solution like a good head of a clan. He breeds you. Like that your thoughts will be turned towards another life. A life you’d cherish unconditionally. It will give him time to process things before it actually gets out of hand again. I mean that was the only way right ?
Deidara : For him breaking up was ineluctable. If for him art is an explosion it’s because he manages to find the beauty in things that just can’t stay beautiful forever. It was the same in your relationship. It was intense, full of passion but short. For him that was the perfect amount of time to enjoy the beauty of it, but for you it was just not enough. That’s why you set an ultimatum but to your surprise he agreed on breaking up. After getting your text he came over and reiterated his intention on not wanting to delve into a more serious relationship with you. Though the attraction between you too stays really strong. and it’s not uncommon to see him sneak out of your room in the wee hours “I just can’t get enough of your body. it’s intoxicating” You just can’t help but keep jumping each other’s bones, that’s the way it is for now. No strings attached for now. You just hope that someday he realizes that love is one of the rare things that get even more beautiful as time follows its course.

When I was a kid, my favorite characters in Naruto were Gaara, Sasori, and Naruto. Now, after having read, finally, all the manga at 28, that drastically changed. Now, without a doubt, my favorite characters are Obito and Kakashi, and the main reason is: they are human. I'm not saying that the other characters of the story are not human, but they all have that indistinguishable "fantasy" layers on them. But Obito and Kakashi? Their story, their motives, their emotions, their responses at the events of the main story, are so intrinsically human. Probably what I'm writing make no sense, but Ill' try my best to explain, even if I have difficulty to write this in english. This is my opinion, and naturally everyone has their take based on their own culture and their life. When I say they are " intrinsically human", I mean that if someone else was in their place, they would have made their same choices and actions. Because, their response to destabilizing and traumatic events (the third ninja war as child soldiers, Kannabi bridge, Rin's decision, and so on) it's different, but also understandable. Who could have act differently? No one can say with confidence and no hesitation how they would act in certain situations. I'm no therapist, but people have different reactions to traumatic events. We are not the same. So, seeing how Obito and Kakashi had so conflicting reactions to the same events, conflicting with their own childhood self even though you could see even then there was something, something that you could see and say "yes, this is only the tip of the iceberg," because we are not the same as our child selves, but our child selves had something that made who we are today, and the "we" of today have something that it's a reminder of our child selves. I, have so much more to add, but don't have the words in english to say it. I don't even know if what I wrote make any sense, it was something that I wanted to say because this two make me cry, and I hardly cry for fiction. But this two made my cry like I haven't cried for years, just because their story is so viscerally human and close to what I feel in general, that I don't even know anymore.

how's sasori obligatory round of book club go?
bc his role in reborn au is "mildly stalks team 4" i'm imagining 1) he's never actually formally invited, but 2) he just shows up for random meetings. it gets to the point where it's like "oh, akasuna no sasori shows up as a side character in this one, are you inviting him?"
but the FIRST time, tori has been busily "befriending" a random woman she found in the chunin break room. she walks her from work to get drinks before the meeting so her "friend" absolutely cannot escape. and then at the bar, fucking sasori shows up
tori: how did you even get in here?!
sasori: i was in the area. what are you doing i want you to look at improvements i made to one of my mind control seals. maybe find itachi too he's into this
tori: NO i'm DOING SOMETHING
tori: here if you can't just wait a couple hours, we're doing a book of short stories this week. read at least one of them
the woman recognizes sasori and she's like. um i would like to leave? and tori is like NO NO BOOK CLUB IS STILL ON and then blocks every single attempt to leave or flag down ANBU. we are going to book club, okay, new best friend????
(sasori: this is a random desk-nin? wouldn't even make a good puppet)
so the three of them go to book club, which is hosted in the hokage's house, and kushina opens the door and is like. hmmm. then she goes to minato making a vegetable platter and she's like
kushina: hey yeah so you know how sasori is stalking my students
kushina: well he's here for book club
minato:
minato: did you let him in?
kushina: i mean yeah? he had a copy of the book
minato:
minato: huh
so sasori is just. there. he's read three out of six of the short stories and he was very strong opinions. also itachi shows up so book club turns out to be very convenient for sasori? so he's fine. he behaves. he doesn't take the drink kushina offers him. minato DOES go drop naruto off at sasuke's so he's not in the house, but like. sasori is a fine edition to book club. he has well articulated and thoughtful opinions and has no problem telling kakashi his opinions are stupid, which is a pretty good litmus test for not being someone who's cowed by authority
tori's new best friend is losing her mind. what the fuck is happening. why is hokage-sama okay with this. why does respected famous jounin hatake kakashi think one of the most infamous missing-nin alive being here is funny. only shisui looks even slightly concerned. and then she can't even SAY anything because what is she supposed to do? talk back to her boss or the three separate anbu captains present??? she thought tori was a civilian
as they're leaving book club, itachi vaguely wanders after tori and the rando woman (who tori will NOT let leave her) because sasori said he wanted to talk, and sasori is like "well if YOU'RE not going to use her as a test subject, can i?" and tori is like NO OBVIOUSLY NOT SHE'S MY BEST FRIEND
(itachi: your best friend is a 30 year old career chunin with a child?)
the chunin lady finally successfully executes the emergency alarm jutsu and itachi is like "hi, i'm the nearest anbu" and then "why did you even bother, did you really sit with him and hokage-sama in the same room and conclude this was an appropriate response?" so he's. unhelpful and mean.
so the woman has a breakdown right there in the streets and tori has to be physically dragged away from her. they go find deidara. tori is mad the whole time but sasori considers the evening a success
tori several days later: can you BELIEVE she doesn't want to talk to me anymore? she tried to get minato to ban me from the chunin break room

PROPAGANDA
SAKURA HARUNO (NARUTO)
1.) 1.) It is repeatedly stated throughout the series the areas in which she excels. We are told over and over again that she is gifted (early on in the series) or tremendously strong (end of the series) and yet with the exception of of the Sasori fight, there seems to be a staunch refusal to actually SHOW her being competent in a fight. 2.) her backstory ties into nothing plotwise as far as the overarching world and history of the village and its families. The three other leads (Sasuke Naruo, Kakashi) all get their own relevant backstory that gets delved into. But Sakura? Neither has one nor goes off and embroils herself personally into one of these overarching plot points. She is constantly forced to just be a companion/side character to the stories of her male counterparts. 3.) She’s given so much potential for a great powersuite and those all either go unrealized or she gets shown up by other characters. idk if this is what was meant by propaganda but its what i got
2.) Despite becoming the world’s best surgeon and doctor at age 17 (including doing open heart surgery in the middle of an active battlefield), her achievements are routinely undercut and underplayed by the canon.
It’s all the more disappointing because in some ways, she’s a very realistic and humanistic depiction of a teenage girl. Unlike her teammates, she grew up in what we would consider a pretty average family situation (two living parents who love her, even if they don’t understand her choices), and has relatively average goals at the beginning. Compared to her teammates who are orphans from dynastic ninja clans, who were basically born to a lineage of massive amounts of powerful ninja magic; Sakura’s civilian family has given her no genetic predisposition to being powerful. Despite this, she’s shown to be highly intelligent, achieving top scores on exams and having a deep knowledge for theory and concepts.
She begins the story having a crush on Sasuke Uchiha, a boy who has no interest in her, and hating Naruto, their village’s Omelas Child. However, as she works with her team, she bonds with them on a deeper level, and works very hard to meet their natural level of skill and not be deadweight on their team.
However, despite the fact that trios are treated with deep cultural and narrative significance throughout Naruto, the narrative quickly abandons the “Team 7 Trio” framing in all the ways that matter, becoming the Naruto-and-Sasuke show in all ways that matter. When Sakura gets her time to shine, she’s always undercut. Her massive physical strength and strong sense of self in Shippuden are never treated with the same reverence as her teammates’. Despite the fact that she can easily shatter rock and manipulate the ground with her sheer physical power, and that she was originally presented as good at genjutsu (illusion magic); she becomes a field medic/doctor – a carer/support role, rather than a DPS. Her decisions to advocate for herself and the people she cares about (such as trying to kill Sasuke) are treated as foolish and naive, not a heroic choice to try and help her friends at a large personal cost.
She also basically never gets to fight a man, except for one important case: Sasori. This is important, because the female characters in Naruto are routinely presented as less powerful and less of a threat than male characters. While her fight with Sasori is a fantastic arc, it ends with Sasori undercutting her victory by being like “well actually I wanted to die”, implying that he’d chosen to let her win, not that her win is well deserved. This is at the start of Shippuden, she doesn’t get a solo fight arc after that.
Of course, the most egregious thing done to Sakura is that she’s married off to Sasuke. Despite the fact that Sasuke is never once shown to give a shit about her, and the fact that her character development in a large part was about her giving up the childish and misogynistic desire to be a wife to the cute guy in her class, suddenly they’re together. Sasuke is a deadbeat husband, however, and immediately fucks off, to the point where he doesn’t recognise their child when he meets her, and tries to kill her. Sakura-the-housewife-waiting-at-the-window-for-her-husband’s-return is again now deeply in love with a man who doesn’t give a shit about her. The only photo she has of them together is shown to be a cutout of another photo of Sasuke stuck on a photo of her. She’s again trapped in a housewife box, her achievements and skill sideline to her ability to rear a child for the male lead. And worse, despite the fact she’s a very confident person who otherwise has no issue advocating for herself, she doesn’t really seem to fight back against this awful status quo in her relationship, grateful for the scraps of affection Sasuke delivers to her once a decade.
3.) Despite being on a team of three, she’s always side lined for the other two. Her whole thing is healing, then in a major arc at the end of the main series a character gets hurt and when she goes to attempt to heal them, she is pushed aside so Naruto can do his amazing magic healing that he just learned and is already better at it than her.
HINATA HYUUGA (NARUTO)
1.) When Hinata was introduced she goals, weaknesses, interesting interactions and relationships with characters other than naruto and a personality of her own. Post timeskip in shippuden, however, she was reduced down to simply ‘naruto’s future love interest’ and little else. The entire Hyuuga plotline was dropped and she no longer had any relevance or personality outside of naruto. Part 1 hinata was shy and insecure on the surface but underneath that she was determined & hardworking, even to her own detriment. Her struggles were compelling. Her interactions with neji and her family are something you look forward to seeing more of. In shippuden she’s like a flat carboard cutout of hinata. Her shyness exaggerated, her relationship with her family suddenly perfectly fine and boring. In part 1 naruto inspires her to keep trying but he isn’t the reason she’s working so hard, in shippuden he’s pretty much all she thinks about. Her change in character design really highlights these changes - the perfect little wife for cishet men to fantasise about.
2.) Her entire personality and arc is boiled down to “shy uwu waifu in love with Naruto” and basically any development she gets, which is barely at all because Kishimoto hates women, is as attributed to NARUTO and Naruto only. Even her reaction to her beloved COUSIN’S DEATH makes her be like “omg I love Naruto” and serves to further NaruHina, which is absolutely insane she would Not react like that. Naruto only starts being romantically interested in her at the beginning of like, The Last movie, which is after 500ish episodes of her being treated as the sidelined love interest who is devoted to a guy who only cares about her when she’s a damsel in distress on a fight.
There are so many parts of her character that are/could be interesting, like her part in the Hyuga Clan due to being born as a superior and her dynamic with her cousin Neji as a result, (which could have had SO many great moments of reconciliation and standing up for each other grrr grrr) an exploration of the impact of her bullying & being looked down upon (even when she’s supposed to be a superior member, which adds to the shame) LIKE MANY OF THE CAST, seriously the people Naruto trauma dumps to are mostly consisted of people unfairly treated like that and it could have been used to further NaruHina WHILE showing her struggles
She is an incredibly capable fighter but the moment Naruto is there, she instantly becomes defenseless and needs to be saved by her crush, mostly as a “wow look at him isn’t he so brave and kind to do this for her?!”
There’s an episode where she is literally used as a defenseless punching bag for Pein by trying to sacrifice herself for Naruto and telling him she loves him, JUST so he can be more angry and have more motivation to beat Pein’s ass (aside of the yknow. Killing his loved ones thing) AND her confession is ignored by Naruto for the rest of the series. Just like any moment she shows her crush for him is met with obliviousness, which would be fine if they weren’t the main couple and didn’t go on for THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!!
In Boruto, the shitty sequel, Naruto is basically her deadbeat husband in her bland lavander marriage and Boruto is rightfully mad about Naruto’s distance from the family and even says he left her basically a single mom and barely pays time to the family, and Hinata’s role in the show as the housewife is being like “no you see Boruto you have to understand your father’s pov as the Hokage” and the narrative treats NaruHina’s marriage as a Good, Healthy Thing as if the characters are not miserable in this marriage.
3.) Man I don’t even like her that much but she deserved SO much better. She was introduced as the heiress of a really powerful and renowed clan with complex dynamics, yet the author somehow decided to do almost NOTHING with the potential she had, and gave her very little personality besides being shy and fawning over the protagonist. She gets slightly more active in Shippuden (part 2), but her character still pretty much revolves around her love for Naruto, which sucks because again, she has so much potential. It’s no secret that women in Naruto are badly written, and Hinata certainly is no exception. The male characters get dozens of episodes/chapters about their motivations, their backstories, what pushes them to keep going, and Hinata gets almost nothing besides her lifelong crush on Naruto that we are reminded of literally every time she’s on screen.

Ok idc if I get hate for this but I HATE Sakura haters. “Oh she’s so useless oh she doesn’t do anything she lets naruto and sasuke do everything” I-
Sakura is the only main character we see who’s not overpowered in some way or part of a shinobi bloodline. We know how important those are in terms of powers, allies, mentors, etc. sasuke unlocks the sharingan and gets powerful. Naruto has the nine tails and also incredible heritage. Her best friend ino is from a major clan with special mind jutsu. Everyone else- shikamaru, choji, kiba, hinata and even neji, shino, even gaara + sibs, most of the main characters have some sort of familial/clan support and power. The only other one we see who doesn’t is rock lee but what does he get? The unwavering dedication of guy sensei. I love Kakashi but damn he did Sakura dirty with training when he focused on naruto and sasuke.
So she comes from no shinobi background, masters chakra control before naruto and sasuke to climb the tree, is one of the only if not the only person to solve the written part of the chunin exam without cheating just because she’s so smart, and people have the audacity to shame her? Oh she’s scared in fights YEAH OF COURSE SHE IS? Naruto and sasuke aren’t scared of zabuza and haku and orochimaru but she’s not a 12 year old boy with unlimited power and even more audacity?? She’s a girl who has no special abilities and learned a week ago to climb a tree.
She was done really dirty in shippuden too bc she finally got tsunade to be her master after being ignored by kakashi, mastered healing and was the only one of her disciples to actually master the thousand healings and she’s still relegated to being useless bc she’s not as good as naruto and sasuke. The first arc of getting gaara back shows what she could’ve been as a character: a selflessly brave shinobi who’s intelligent enough to think of new solutions like forming the antidote to sasori’s poison and letting chiyo control her to fight sasori. She’s the one who formulates the antidote to save gaara. Yes she’s manipulative at times and uses Naruto’s crush on her to try to get him to come back to the village but yk what? She’s a fucking shinobi. That’s what she does. She manipulates and fights and uses all her resources to complete her goals.
I’m tired of seeing her called useless bc she doesn’t stack up to classmates with clan support, is weaker than the two overpowered main characters in the show, and has appropriate fear responses to things.
Edit to add this includes boruto era Sakura hate. Ppl hate bc she wears the uchiha insignia UH YEAH she married into the clan and also do you remember what happened to the last kid who was the only person who wore the uchiha insignia hint his pain of being alone got to him and he ran off to orochimaru. Oh but hinata/temari/ino don’t wear their husbands’ clan insignia YEAH BECAUSE they’re already part of powerful clans they can’t switch up on loyalty like that Sakura has no clan so she can. Oh lol Sakura’s the only one who could have an uchiha kid who needed glasses yeah ykw she’s the one who can make her vision perfect with healing I’m betting this comes from sarada’s dad who destroyed and switched up on his eyes like 1836283 times. Also she’s a brilliant doctor and tsunade’s best legacy it’s not her fault that sasuke is an absent husband and father when she’s done nothing but be a present, active wife and mother who doesn’t hold back on her love for her family

Naruto keeps getting promoted to the top of my twitter timeline for some reason but today it seems naruto fans are in-fighting about Sakura/Chiyo vs. Sasori being one of the best fights in the entire series, and frankly it IS. I give Kishimoto a lot of shit justifiably but the dude is amazing at fight choreography and has a great sense of motion and panel flow within a fight (most 90% of the time).
Even among all the really good fights, the sasori fight still remains uniquely original and uniquely naruto. It wasn’t the first fight with against an akatsuki member but it was the first decisive full fight with one and It was also the first time we got to actually see Sakura in action since honestly the chunin exams.
And it might be because of the nature of puppet fights, the ability to do random bullshit, and the fact that literally every attack was drenched in poison. Kishimoto did a great job making every attack feel as lethal and cheap as possible. Fights between ninjas should feel dirty and unfair so this fight really did have a different vibe to it then many of the fights that came before it. The entire fight itself felt unmistakably miserable to be a part of which was awesome. A dire time all around and also a great reintroduction to a character that was both massively hated and loved by fans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a shame that Kishimoto never brought this kind of Sakura energy back and frankly it’s ABSURD that he just simply never wrote her to be this cool again. Like, he proved to himself and the fans that Sakura could have great fights and to open shippudden with this kind of Sakura and almost immediately lowball her for the rest of the series after this arc is still incredibly baffling and frustrating even after so many years.
Okay naruto talk over.

Ever since the poll started of who had the best fight and sakura vs sasori won but In my opinion I feel like it was favoritism. Like it feels like they don’t care about the fight just Sakura, If they were another fight with sakura they will choose her because it’s sakura not because of they fight just sakura they care about. Sakura and Lady Chiyo was good but they were better fights than Sakura and Lady Chiyo vs Sasori, Like sakura failed to defeat and the only reason they won is because Sasor let them win or Sasori just killed himself.
One thing that really annoys me about some sakura fans(not all of them but some of them) say that Hinata vs Pain was weak and it was a filler fight
Tumblr media
While This scene of Sakura vs Sasori was also a filler fight because this part was never in the manga
Tumblr media
So I find it funny of how some sakura fans will make fun of Hinata for having a filler parts during her fight while their favorite character had filler parts during fights as well.
Tumblr media
In the manga hinata gets one shot by pain.
There’s sometimes Naruhina and Sasusaku stans arguing about which relationship is better or which relationship had filler episodes while in reality they both have filler episodes. Sasusaku Stans would make fun or shit on Naruhina and that they needed a movie for their ship while Naruhina Stans will shit on or make fun of Sasusaku for needing two or one novels for their ship but in reality Naruhina and Sasusaku are both terrible canon ships to ever exist because my personal opinion about this canon ships are two woman who doesn’t understand about their crushes and two guys who were traumatize and had a terrible pasts and were guilt tripped to be with them.
It’s funny of how some sakura fans get mad when people don’t like sakura and say they still in og Naruto or they will call you a misogynist for not liking her or say shit like “Sakura saved Naruto life many times”!!! Some sakura fans needs to accept that not everyone is going to like sakura, Same with Hinata fans. Just because you don’t like a female character from a show does not make you a misogynistic, Learn to understand that and accept it instead of attacking, harassing, and bashing them or trying to get them to like your favorite female character.
What also annoys me that whenever someone says they don’t like Sakura and have value reasons to dislike her but not because she’s useless, Some of the Sakura fans are like “How come you can like Bakugou but not Sakura”!! Like what does Bakugou have to do with anything not liking Sakura? At least Bakugou doesn’t play with his friends feelings.
(I don’t watch Mha(My hero academia) so I don’t really know about Bakugou much)

Hm so as I’ve seen many people lump Sakura in with Naruto and Kakashi as ‘bootlickers who ignore all the state’s atrocities in favor of keeping that status quo’, so as both a radical and a Sakura fan I’d like to share why and how I think Sakura could be turned into a radical character.
This isn’t gonna go very deeply into her fighting abilities or any of that, it’s more an analysis of her personality and narrative role than anything.
So I think one of the main points that attracts me to Sakura taking a radical direction is, unlike Naruto and Kakashi, she’s so rarely allowed any agency outside of male character’s desires. Like there’s multiple points where Sakura is about to do something or go fight, especially during Pt 1, where she’s stopped by someone while Naruto, for example, isn’t given any of the same opposition. While her willingness to drop her plan as soon as an authority figure demands it are something I’m going to further address, the fact remains that more often than not Sakura is only allowed agency so much as it benefits the male characters (ex, yelling at Sasuke to spur him out of his fear to fight Orochimaru).
This lack of agency is continued on throughout Shippuden. While Sakura’s delegation to the sidelines isn’t as noticable (as it’s often just that she’s barely there at all or is visible but doesn’t contribute to the plot), Shippuden Sakura is again not allowed her own voice in the narrative. She’s never given vital pieces of information (ex, the truth about the Uchiha massacre) that would allow her to actually position herself within the story the way Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi are able to do so. We don’t really know what Sakura’s reaction to the truth of the world around her would be, unlike Sasuke (fight again the oppressive forces) or Naruto & Kakashi (favor the status quo), because she is never able to find said truth out.
What damns this even more for me is that there are instances of Sakura breaking out of the Shinobi conditioned mindset sometimes!! The clearest is during the Wave arc, where her sobbed uttering of the Shinobi code as she thinks Sasuke is dead is used outright to question the morality of the shinobi system (side note there’s a reason Wave is imo the best arc). Sure, you could chalk it up to her being a wimpy and emotional 12 year old, but her emotions are directly used here to point out the cruelty of the shinobi system. There’s a moment like this again at the end of her fight with Sasori as well, where Sakura demanding the value of life is met by Sasori asking her if “that’s what a shinobi should be saying”. Again, this is proven by Sakura’s hesitance to stab out Obito’s eye - Sakura’s value for life and compassion have, multiple times, been used to question her position in the shinobi system. But we never really get to see this come to fruition because Sakura is not given the agency nor the information to do so.
In fact, I think if given the information like the true cause of the Uchiha Massacre, Sakura would become radical fairly quickly. She’s very good at memorizing and researching huge amounts of information, she’s noted to be observant and good at noticing details, and she’s incredibly stubborn and wouldn’t be put off if the information was hard to find - the qualities that made her an excellent academic student and medic would make her very good and finding out what she needs to. Additionally, Sakura is shown to have very little loyalty to the state at all. She offers to choose her friend/romantic interest/cared person Sasuke over Konoha twice and seems to genuinely mean it, which shows me that the only real reasons she remains loyal to Konoha are a) many of her precious people (ie, Ino, Tsunade, Naruto, Kakashi) are in Konoha, b) she’s grown up there and it’s easiest, and c) she’s been given no real reason to question it. The violence she seems at least a bit uncomfortable with could be a reason, sure, but as far as Sakura’s seen almost everyone partakes in that, even the revolutionaries.
However, I think if given something that forces her to seriously reconsider her worldview of Konoha as, if not the good guys then a lesser evil to be loyal to, something that forces her to choose between her value for life and her care for her precious people and the state, I think she could very well be turned into a revolutionary. Sakura’s not against enacting violence, but she is shown to have a value for life that the shinobi system ordinarily discourages (one that I do believe she had even prior to her apprenticeship under Tsunade). Playing on this as the catalyst and using her academic skill could turn her into a radical character easily.
However, in order for that to happen, her arc would have to confront what I said I’d address earlier: Sakura’s adherence to authority regardless of her personal wishes and lack of faith in herself.
These, I think, play into each other. While there’s speculation about Sakura’s family and abuse, what we do know from canon is that Sakura was both a teacher’s pet and a bullying victim from a young age. Both of these reinforce this part of her personality; the bullying hurt her self esteem and her faith in herself (and if we go by the anime movies, her emotionally abusive parents sure weren’t helping in that regard either), and being a teacher’s pet allowed her to get the validation her broken self esteem craved so long as she did exactly as the authority figure told. I think for a lot of ‘gifted kids’, we either grow up strictly abiding by authority as it’s what got us positive reinforcement growing up, or we go in the complete opposite direction and trust no authority at all when it inevitably fails us.
Is it as exciting a backstory or reasoning for her personality as some of the other characters? No, but it’s what we have. Sakura is one of those kids, with an academic performance that got her validation as long as she was obedient, and her peers (and parents) hurting her self esteem so she couldn’t trust her own opinion anymore. I think this is why she’s so quick to back down whenever someone she sees as more qualified or in a higher position than her demands it. I don’t think this was ever actually addressed in the show or manga, tbh. I think this would be Sakura’s main barrier to radicalization; her arc would need to be her gaining confidence not just in her abilities, but in her own opinions and personality, and learning that authority figures are not to be trusted.
Anyway, I think Sakura is a very interesting character to take a radical route. You just need to understand her character and motivations.

I had stopped being able to read the naruto manga way back near the beginning of shippuden (it was still coming out at the time) due to the store I had access to not bothering to carry the volumes anymore (man am I old 🤣) then different fandoms caught me and years go by so my mind has the sasuke naruto meeting with sasuke draping himself over naruto to threaten him and sakura being competent with healing kankuro and fighting sasori... so I was...confused when I recently fell back into the fandom why sakura would even be with sasuke...as I felt mature medic nine fighter girl would have understood that she'd had a crush and moved on.
Like, Naruto and Sasuke had so much stuff between them I get why they haven't let each other go.
So it seemed weird as hell that sakura would even still "like" sasuke... as her original feelings stemmed from childish "he's so cute and broody" which is okay in a 12 year old girl but less okay as an adult woman...
The naruhina I though, ah, he and hinata must have had many moments in all the parts I've missed, and bonded...oh...she just...endangers herself and confesses to which naruto doesn't react at all...and then their married...
As a shonen manga I figured we wouldn't get a blatant narusasu ending (even though they are the best) ...I'm even a cheery multishipper often for characters I like but...it was so sad. I'd of been happier to have it end with shion just randomly turning up to have naruto keep his baby making promise...
Anywho sorry for blathering on.
I adore your art as well, it's super pretty and I need all the naruto x sasuke content to heal my shipper soul...
Hi @roseunspindle ! Oh gosh!! You couldn’t read past the reunion scene??? I would’ve gone crazy 😭
Yeah, Sakura never matured in that department. Even in the sequel where she’s supposedly married to Sasuke, Ino derisively says she’ll forever stay a girl in love. Like the story had to spell it out for readers. There is this weird vibe between her and Sarada when it comes to Sasuke.. I don’t even know how to describe it but it’s creepy. Even when there is a kid involved somehow and they speak of marriage, Sasuke gives her no reason to love him romantically and it surprises her still that he showed no concern for her life whatsoever. Sasuke, who expresses through action in most cases, is still as indifferent as ever towards her.
Sakura has moments where she shows some care for characters, mainly driven by her being a medic, but emotionally, it is bizarre how little she cares about Sasuke and yet, at the same time seems to only care about him... if it involves herself. She doesn’t even question why Sasuke does what he does or tries to understand how he feels. Even when she gets fed little snippets of his pain or the source of that, she doesn’t try to find an answer. In the very end she doesn’t even give a shit about his reason to travel or defend his words regarding "redemption". She felt entitled to an apology while she was the one going up to him with the intention to kill him. Even when he tries to explain why he wants to travel, she just cuts off his words because she wants to go with him regardless of his intentions or goals. I get why some people wanted a development for Sakura where she’d be able to let that crush for him go, but story-wise? That would take a lot from Kishimoto because there is also a lot of insecurity involved too.. And frankly, she's very much a red herring :')
Meh, nh... I have nothing to say.
Well, SNS-fans often say their story is very tragic. But that’s not just how we feel, it IS a fact that Naruto and Sasuke went from receiving a semi-sweet/bitter-sweet (depends on how you look at it as we got a resolve but not a clear resolution yet) in ch 698/699 to a bitter ending in 700 where they suddenly not only didn’t have what they wanted, but certainly not what they needed either. To combat that in the sequel, they shoved all the problems of the world onto a bunch of aliens... distracting everyone from the hypocrisy of the system. Neither Naruto or Sasuke got to work on the thing they wanted and their internal desires were completely massacred for the sake of these kids. And both of them have shown that if they don’t have what they need, they will fail the thing they ultimately want. Meaning, the Shinobi world will forever stay the same while spitting on their dream for the future and the trauma they had to go through because of it. It’s not even about SNS or the story being Shonen... but the concept, which Sasuke talked about at the end that was supposed to be a vehicle for a better world is completely retconned.
... but I’m happy that besides that, SNS is still widely and largely celebrated regardless. And that says a lot! I’m happy to hear you like my art 🥰💕 that really means a lot, thankyou so much!! (I’m trying to heal myself through them too ;-;!)

Chiyo and Sasori - She neglected him out of guilt and fear
Tumblr media
Sasori is a character who was introduced early in the first part of Naruto Shippuden. His parents were killed by Hatake Sakumo when he was young, and he was consequently under the care of Chiyo (and her brother - and his granduncle - Ebisu, most likely…yet their relationship is not shown on-screen), his grandmother.
Chiyo, however, does a grave mistake when it comes to Sasori’s parents. She learns of the fact that they were killed, and…
Tumblr media
She keeps this information from Sasori, believing him to be “too young” to know about their death. On one hand it is considerate of her to do so, on the other hand she put herself in a very uncomfortable situation emotionally.
Not only because she had to lie to him every time he asked about his parents (and I can imagine that he asked ever so often), but because she probably had no true idea what to do the moment Sasori might/would figure out the truth.
Instead of telling him the truth she tells him that they are away on a mission (or that they were given a new mission, as stated in ep. 27) and that they will eventually return. Even worse, the one scene we get to see Chiyo says “well, they’ll be gone a little bit longer…”
They will be gone a little bit longer.
The lie itself is a terrible thing, but to phrase it the way she did - a little bit - makes it taste even more bitter.
That is giving Sasori a hope that does not exist.
She keeps him waiting, and Sasori obediently does just that. Growing up very lonely - and impatient (not liking to keep other people waiting, nor liking to be kept waiting) - as a consequence.
Tumblr media
Look at him - he’s so sad…
While Chiyo did her best to be there for Sasori, her constant lies were actually cruel.
What is the greatest insult to Sasori, however, is the fact that Chiyo treats him as if he is stupid. He might be a child - and of course it would have hurt him to know that his parents were dead - but he is not stupid. Far from it.
He was hailed a prodigy in the art of puppetry, after all.
And…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He created puppets in the likeness of his parents to not feel so lonely. And yet they could do nothing to ease the emptiness within him. They could not replace his longing for his real parents.
“Sasori had already figured out, that his parents were dead.”
Chiyo actually hurt Sasori more with her lies than if she had just told him the truth from the beginning. We do not know for how long the lie lasted either, but she probably lied to him for 1 to 2 years at best…and quite a few years at worst.
Chiyo was put in a very painful position, but her way of handling it was certainly not the best. Not only was she grieving the loss of her son and daughter-in-law, but Sasori was a constant reminder of her loss. Not only was he the child of her son, he looked just like him (but with his mother’s brown eyes).
But what she ends up remembering the most is the sorrowful - empty - gaze upon which he gazes at the puppets.
Tumblr media
Ep. 319 (filler - I am aware of such and yet I, for one, appreciate some of the fillers that the anime team gave us - this is one of my absolute favourites) expands on Sasori’s past. After the above scene we are shown how Sasori works on his puppets. The peace and quiet is being interrupted by Komushi - a young boy who is shown to treat Sasori like a friend. Komushi asks Sasori about the puppets requested by Chiyo (The Crow, Black Ant and Salamander), and this implies at first that his role is more than being just Sasori’s friend - he acts as a messenger between the two of them. This is later plainly stated by Chiyo herself.
“Oh well, I might as well wait until hell freezes over to get a response from you.”
One thing that is of interest is the fact that Sasori ignored Komushi for a long while. Only when Komushi mentioned that he “has a message from Granny Chiyo” did Sasori stop his tinkering and listen. The message in question was about the above mentioned puppets, and that they were needed quicker. Sasori only points towards said creations, resuming his tinkering near immediately thereafter, while also mentioning that he “does not like keeping people waiting”.
That Komushi acts as a messenger indicates that the relationship between them is strained. Extremely so even. But does it come as a surprise?
Not really.
Chiyo could have asked about Sasori’s invention herself, no? He is her grandson after all. But that she did not.
And the proof just how strained their relationship is follows the above mentioned scene. Komushi mentions that Chiyo wonders about the poison for the Crow puppet, and Sasori hands him a sheet of paper with the formula for the toxin he intends to make. The toxin in question must be approved, however, by his superior - who is Chiyo herself.
Komushi tells Sasori that he will negotiate with Chiyo about the toxin - and to give him “some time”. Sasori turns away from his friend and immediately tells him that he does not want to wait. Komushi grins - tells him “then let’s go!” - before rushing off. Sasori merely watches him in silence - looking mildly dumbfounded at his friend’s suggestion.
Now, while Komushi urged both of them to go - Sasori could have remained in his workshop and let his friend handle something that Sasori himself could have done…and yet…
Tumblr media
This particular scene showcases just how little Chiyo understands her grandson. And it also showcases how she pushes him away - intentionally even.
This scene was a bit tricky to capture in a still frame. At first Chiyo only sees Komushi and so she asks him if he has “relayed her message” - and then Sasori appears. She becomes quiet, looks a tad surprised - apprehensive even - at the sight of her grandson. This indicates that he probably spent most (if not all) his time in the workshop and seldom showed himself. And that him being here now was quite the exception.
One could say that Komushi had a knack for persuading people to do his bidding, but considering Sasori being the way he is…he had probably another reason to appear before his grandmother.
Chiyo reads through the formula, and mentions that “there is not much I can say without knowing the blending ratio of the mixture”.
It is here that Chiyo makes another grave mistake.
Having read through the formula she looks at Sasori - remembering his empty gaze that gazed upon his father and mother puppets - before approving the request without asking for specifics. She could have asked about the mentioned blending ratio - Sasori stood right there in front of her - but she spoke as if that was not the case.
Sasori is shown to be a very tacit individual - he barely speaks and would probably be lost in his own world (creating puppets) if not for Komushi. When it comes to the toxin, Sasori went there personally (with some slight urging from his friend) but nevertheless…he followed him. The relationship between Sasori and Chiyo is shown to be terribly strained, even cold, so why would Sasori go to the person that lied to him for (presumably) years?
Because she was the only family he had left at that point. And he cared about her, deep down. He mentioned in ep. 27 that he would not care if Chiyo would die…and that alone indicates that there was a part of him that still cared about her. If he truly did not care about Chiyo’s fate, he would not have wasted breath mentioning it. He would have just gone ahead and killed her like he was capable in doing.
It is while Chiyo is healing Sakura that we get the clearest indicator that Sasori cared about Chiyo despite everything that had happened since he left the village 20 years prior to their reunion.
“It’s a jutsu I spent originally years creating for you…one that only I can use. With this jutsu life can even be breathed into puppets…In exchange for the life of the caster, that is…But in hindsight, it’s a dream that won’t be realized…”
Sasori, hearing these words, is visibly shaken. And there is a symbolic tear in the form of blood falling from the corner of his mouth.
While he probably resented Chiyo for lying to him - a part of me thinks that he could forgive her for that - as he sought her out (as shown in ep. 319) in an attempt to get an interaction between them, after all.
Him going to see his grandmother was Sasori’s subtle way of trying to mend a relationship that (not yet) was beyond repair.
But Chiyo - by approving the toxin immediately- denied Sasori the interaction he could not state plainly because he was extremely stunted emotionally and socially. He probably wanted her to ask him questions, show interest in him and his inventions (she was a toxin specialist when young and she was the one who taught him the art of puppetry in the first place) - but instead of threading on the path of reconciliation, she pushed him away. Intentionally.
Once the toxin was approved Chiyo near immediately dismisses the pair because she is “in the middle of research” but whether entirely true or not is hard to say. She was seen reading a document before Komushi (and Sasori) disturbed her, that’s true, but is it “reading” or “research”? Both most likely. It does not change the fact that she asked them to leave, though.
While Sasori hoped that Chiyo would understand the unspoken in him appearing before her, she misread the situation entirely.
Or…on one hand she did, but on the other hand she probably thought that she would make Sasori’s life easier if she just agreed to his request - she had denied him the most important “request” of all, after all (an answer/the truth). Agreeing to his request was partly done out of guilt I can imagine - so to ease her own consciousness. And part of her - as much as she tried to not show it - was terrified of that empty, haunted look in her grandson’s eyes.
Because she knew that she shouldered most of the blame for Sasori being lonely, for him feeling empty and trying to fill the void within him with his puppets.
She tried to cheer him up, but completely neglected the fact that Sasori needed human contact rather than only his puppets. He needed her.
Tumblr media
This scene follows immediately after the above mentioned scene. He looks so sad, disappointed even that he did not get the result he had hoped for.
It had to hurt having Komushi mention that Chiyo had to be “so proud of you” and that she was “always worried about you” - because from Sasori’s side he probably felt that the complete opposite was the case, as Chiyo did not talk to him. They did not speak with one another (if it was not absolutely necessary), she did not praise him (at least not in person)…he must have felt like an orphan despite having family left.
Did they live together? That is not made clear. If they did I can imagine that they both (perhaps Chiyo more than Sasori) went out of their way to avoid one another.
Chiyo approving the toxin - without questioning Sasori about details - would end up having severe consequences the moment Komushi was wounded during his guard duty - losing part of his arm.
He was given a puppet arm by Sasori. It was shown to be quite the invention, with a blade and the ability to release the very toxin Chiyo approved without much hassle.
Tumblr media
She is terrified of her own grandson. Of his empty gaze and his mind that was creating puppets terrifyingly close to real humans.
Now, whether Sasori wanted to murder Komushi intentionally or not, is up for interpretation. If we take Chiyo’s words at face value she is convinced that Sasori tried to get his only friend killed intentionally - that it was not just a “coincidence”. I personally do not believe that Sasori wanted Komushi dead, it was all just a terrible accident.
Komushi - knowing that blame would fall onto Sasori - mentioned that he “is not to blame”. That it was he (Komushi) who ingested the poison by accident.
But whether it was murder or not - Komushi dies under Chiyo’s care, as she does not know the blending ratio of the poison Sasori created, and therefore there is no antidote at the ready. What is even more chilling is the fact that Chiyo mentioned that she would clear it with the “Pharmaceuticals Division” and when Komushi is dying she asks about Sasori and if “we have the blending ratio for the poison yet”, this implies that either she did not speak with the division about the poison (perhaps because the toxin was too complex to find an antidote for?), or she did and Sasori later tweaked the ingredients.
One scene that can be used as an argument for Sasori wanting Komushi dead, is when the latter visits him and mentions that the puppet hand Sasori has created looks “real”. Sasori looks at Komushi’s hand (who moves his fingers to mimic the movement that Sasori made the puppet hand do). To me it looks more as if Sasori is contemplating how to make his puppets more “humanlike”, and it is here (most likely) that he began to contemplate the use of real humans and if it was possible to make them into puppets. But he was probably more inclined to do the opposite still: make puppets into humans so to say.
I honestly believe that Sasori at first had good intentions with him creating puppet parts that were more like human anatomy - but his pure desire morphed steadily into the worldview over which he and Deidara would fight over. Him making more real puppet protheses was very likely the first step into eventually deciding to make himself into a puppet. It was there it began in my opinion - his obsession with preserving “life” and “beauty”.
“Heal him! Please! You attached his right arm, too? Then his left arm can be…His legs, his body…You can even heal his soul, can’t you?! Give him back to me! Heal my Komushi and give him back to me!”
Komushi passes on and with him dies Chiyo’s link to Sasori. She contemplates the situation, before rushing to Sasori’s workshop when remembering how Komushi told her about Sasori creating human parts that looked like “real human hands”.
She finds him there…and she also finds that Sasori has made Komushi into a puppet - like it was “requested” of him by Komushi’s mother.
He has - in a way - restored his soul. Like he was “asked” to do.
Tumblr media
The beginning of the Sasori that we got to know in Naruto Shippuden all the way back in Ep. 21 when his real face was finally revealed.
Chiyo admits by the end of the episode that she, indeed, pushed him away. That she made excuses to not be there for him when he needed her the most.
While all he wanted was to be embraced by his parents once more, I think even an embrace from her - back then - would have done so much to keep him on the “healthy” path.
But Chiyo didn’t. And she realized her many mistakes only when it was too late to truly say how much she regretted her treatment of her only grandson.

for the controversial naruto question ask game thing
11, 13, & 19 (or just pick one, you dont gotta answer all of them)
11. Is Itachi a martyr, a victim, or a perpetrator?
answered here :)
13. Was Kakashi trying his best? Was he a "good" sensei?
answered here :)
19. Pettiest fandom opinion you've blocked someone for?
I don't keep track of people who block me. In fact, I don't even know an easy way to do that. I have had a few people be weird about me drawing adult Sasuke and Naruto together and calling them cheaters jokingly. Also, I get oddly defensive tags about calling Fugaku a misogynist, which I don't really understand. Of the men to defend, why him? Makes me laugh a little. I guess there's no proof he's sexist, but there's certainly no proof he feels different about women than anyone else in the series. He sure doesn't know how to love his kids LOL
edit: realized I read this question wrong LOL answered it as if it was about people blocking me. I block TONS of people. Not really on my art account bc I do most of my scrolling on my other one. I block anyone who shows up on my dash that posts things I don't like, don't want to see, am not interested in. Doesn't have to be things that offend me. I think people forget you can just block anything that junks up your dash. It's like not subscribing to things you don't care about. Seems like some folks only block when something pisses them off, but it can be great to block as a way to curate your experience. It's my space, so I use the block to only see things that I want to see.
But to get to petty blocks LOL I block anti accounts in the naruto fandom cuz they piss me off, I block naruto blogs that focus on the popular hetero-ships (sasusaku, naruhina, etc.), and I block accounts that focus too much on characters I'm not interested in (obito, sasori, deidara, etc.). As for my pettiest block? More than once I've blocked an account for drawing kakashi with his mask off too often LMAO I'm so insane about it I get offended on HIS behalf. LIKE leave him ALONE let him cover UP he doesn't LIKE THAT XDDD references my own let him eat his sandwich gdi post
Thanks for the ask :)

On Sakura
Tumblr media
I hated sakura so much when watching the show, yet when you list out her achievements it DOES LOOK LIKE SHE IS USEFUL, so why when actually watching the show does all of that disappear? Why is she so hated in the fandom?
(Ignoring the fact that this is a shounen based anime, where the main fanbase is a bunch of misogynistic men)
From a writing standpoint, kishimoto doesn't have the best outlook on women. In my personal opinion, I really dislike how women are portrayed in the series. A lot of it falls under the “nagging wife” archetype, which just reminds me a lot of those old boomer jokes abt hating women or hating their wife.
Also, when i talk about disliking sakura, I’m not talking about her in the OG. I mean, she was 12-13 then, and most 12yr olds are annoying. Comparatively to Naruto and Sasuke, she lived a pretty privileged life, so I think her attitude was justified. Both Naruto and Sasuke had their…moments…as well.
Tumblr media
I think in a lot of the filler, they trump up her personality to the point where its annoying, similarly with naruto but bc hes male and also a mega idiot already, it isnt talked about. Filler isnt present in the manga, so manga readers tend to appreciate her more.
here is where i get a little biased..
Comparatively to naruto and sasuke’s connection (they are literally soulmates, platonically or romantically), her romance with sasuke is so flat and one dimensional. Shounen in general as a genre focuses so much on male characters development. It honestly feels like their romance was hastily thrown together at the end of the series. This makes her devotion to him seem shallow and vain.
(This next part is only really applicable to shippuden and somewhat in the OG series i dont really expect a 13yr old with no jutsu to be the best fighter)
I feel like the series intentionally makes her, and really every woman character weaker in terms of endurance (besides Tsunade). Like it feels like the writers say "thats enough fighting for a girl, make her get knocked out" 20secs into a fight. I remember watching her battle with Sasori and being so excited for her to be a badass in shippuden..only for a bunch of episodes to pass and not really getting that same feeling again. To be fair, I wonder if i would have felt the same if I skipped filler episodes. Regardless, I think she could have been more involved in combat, I would have loved to see that from her. “But she’s a healer!!” she can fight also, doesn’t she do that in Boruto? She can do both.
Tumblr media
I also think the studio fucks her over a LOT. Theres a few other moments of her in the anime saying some pretty outrageous things, one of them being “I wish i had parents I could respect a bit more, I’d be better off without them….Why’d you have to be here now? If it was Sasuke, I know he would understand”, to an orphan, which is wild as fuck. I can’t remember if that episode was filler or not, but some of the lines they give her are just outright insane. I can’t think of a sane character that would say that.
In conclusion to this essay of a post..
Fuck The Writers.

Excuse my question, but you're like the only person who loves all sand sibs equally, so I know your answer is gonna be objective and unbiased. Is it true that Kankuro is the "most useless sibling" as many people claim? Cause he does get many scenes for a secondary character. Like, the Gaara rescue arc, the war where he not only fights Sasori, but in the anime, has extra scenes guarding Deidara and fighting Chiyo. People like to compare him to Temari a lot (ofc we know that none of them compares to Gaara), and say she's done more stuff. But in the Gaara rescue thing, she does nothing. In the war, I can remember Kank's fight vs Sasori, I can't remember Tem fighting anyone of relevance. So like, I don't get people who call him useless, or worse "the Sakura of the sand sibs", when Sakura ain't useless either. Idk, what do you think about this whole thing? Do you think Kank is the useless sibling?
Pd: I don't intend to make anyone mad, I really just want to know your opinion, since this whole discourse has been going on in the Naruto fandom for ages, and Kank has been called useless too many times to count, so I wanted to know your take on this.
I literally have never heard this take before so I’m not sure what branch of fandom you’re in. Granted, although I’ve been watching Naruto since 2006, I rarely engaged with the fandom and the point I am now is the closest I’ve ever been in fandom but I still ignore like 98% of it bc I don’t have the time or the energy to deal with such insignificant and petty discourse.
As for my opinion on the take itself…I think it’s ridiculous. Each of the siblings have their strengths and weaknesses and they are successful because they complement each other as a unit.
I love to joke that Kankurou suffers from Middle Child Syndrome but honestly he’s incredibly talented in his own right. He currently leads Suna’s terrorism division and is described to be a charismatic and well-trusted leader. Skill-wise, he’s the best puppet user in the village, if not in Suna history at this point. Yes he fell to Sasori during the Gaara rescue arc but he was like 16??? To Sasori being a whole adult with much more battle experience??? But by the time the 4th War rolled around, less than 2 years later, Kankurou had advanced in his puppetry enough to surpass both Chiyo and Sasori and be formally acknowledged by the two as having done so. He may not have a destructive wide-range fighting style like his siblings, but his precision and tactical strategy is unmatched.
Yes, he’s definitely the silliest of the three but that’s a part of his charm. His outgoing and approachable nature is something that makes him well loved by the village and his subordinates. Gaara is stated in his novel to envy Kankurou’s ability to built rapport and relations on a personal level with their people. Many people in the village actually wanted Kankurou to replace Gaara as the Kazekage. Honestly, I highly doubt Gaara would have been able to gain favor in the village as quickly as he did if it weren’t for Kankurou’s steadfast and open support. Temari’s as well, but Kankurou and Gaara had a particular bond as brothers, and he fiercely protective of his younger brother.
Anyway, that’s my rant bc Kankurou deserves better lmao

Sakura won the best fights poll the narutop99 posted up. Apparently the Chiyo, er Sakura vs Sasori fight was better than Naruto vs Sasuke, or the Gara Lee one, or the Madara Guy to name a few on the list. What's the point of them doing these polls anymore? The fanbase, myself included are getting mad they're letting this blatant cheating happen, all their doing is upsetting the main fanbase, it's almost like the franchise is trying to kill itself off.
Maybe it could wake them up and make them realize how easily bottable their polls are, but who knows. But you have to be pretty delusional to think the whole fanbase would prefer Sakura and Chiyo vs Sasori over fights like Naruto vs Sasuke (the first one), Sasuke vs Itachi, Naruto vs Pain, Rock Lee vs Gaara, Naruto vs Gaara, the list goes on.
A lot of shonen has useless female characters, but only Sakura and Hinata have insane stans like this lol
