Miyuki

Miyuki is very interesting when it comes to affection

He craves it, but avoids it

So you'd be in a weird cycle where neither of you show affection

Which you might not be bothered by, but it leaves Miyuki a little tense

I think he'd eventually hit a point where he'd just bombard you with affection, but then he'd see your reaction and completely cut it off again

He's just . . . a weird guy

You'd both have to sit down and discuss your feelings (another difficult task for him) regarding physical touch

You'd find a common ground though and would start working on getting used to showing affection

Kuramochi

Mochi would start out strong with his affection

(bc that's quite literally how he rolls; headfirst or not at all)

But the second he picks up on your aversion to his touch (which happens very quickly bc of his perception) he backs off

Kuramochi would never dream of making someone he cared for uncomfortable and he understands immediately if you explain your behavior

Mochi would want you to take your time in warming up to affection, but he would also very slowly and subtly introduce it to you

Light touches and warm, gentle hands <3

The progression of physical contact feels natural and doesn't leave you feeling shy or uncountable at all!

Sawamura

Sawamura is a very touchy person

Like, even with his friends he's very physically affectionate, so it's ramped up to 100 with you

I don't think he'd really notice you shying away from touch

he kinda just throws his arms around you whenever he sees you, so he doesn't exactly register your reaction because he's just so happy to be near you

Once he becomes aware of your hesitance towards affection he feels awful

He'll apologize a million times for just assuming you were ok with embracing or being touched

Sawamura is very upset with himself and worries that he might have made you uncomfortable or hurt in some way

He refrains from showing you affection for a while

He eventually asks what you are ok with and always asks permission before giving affection

Haruichi

Haruichi is such a sweetie; you don't even have to worry about surprise affections from him

Haru was: A.) Raised to be very respectful towards people and B.) Just as nervous about affection as you are

He is just a little gentleman :))

For months the extent of his affection is limited to linking arms with you

That's it . . . Boy can't even get the courage to hold hands with you (mostly bc he's nervous and his hands get sweaty, but he'd never admit that)

I feel as though the both of you would warm up to the idea of affection together, so you wouldn't be stuck in an Eijun situation

But if you happen to take longer in coming out of your shell, Haruichi wouldn't judge

He's patient and let's you come to him

Hi there! Could you write a reader insert story where Miyuki comforts and encourages the reader after an intense shoulder surgery? I was thinking reader-san to be a star softball player who she got in a collision in a big game and has to get surgery to try and fix it. I imagine reader-san would have a lot of anxiety and doubts about going to back to play once her sling is off.

“The surgery was a success, y/n-san,” the doctor said with an encouraging smile. “If you rest and follow all of my instructions your shoulder will heal nicely. However, I’m not going to lie. It’s not going to be an easy road since you have to start physical therapy. But I’m confident that after that you’ll be able to play softball just like you wanted.”

You gave the doctor a small smile. “Thank you sensei,” you replied. “I’ll be sure to follow all of your instructions. 

Your parents thanked the doctor and quickly excused themselves, saying that they needed to meet with him to get detailed aftercare instructions. 

You just nodded with the same small smile plastered on your face. The corners of your lips were starting to hurt but that was nothing compared to the possibility of anyone discovering the truth. You just knew that nothing good would come out of saying it to anyone. They wouldn’t be able to understand. You were supposed to only feel grateful and nothing more. But the truth was that you were utterly terrified. You turned to look at your left shoulder which was bandaged with the string of the sling. 

‘If I go through the recovery process and physical therapy, am I going to be able to play softball?’ you asked yourself. Anxiety starts to course through your veins as all of the anecdotes that you’ve heard and read about other athletes getting injured and not being able to play again. And if they do, they never go back to being the same kind of player. 

‘Is that going to be my fate once the sling comes off?’ You just had surgery so you knew that a small part of you was definitely overthinking this. First, you had to rest and let your shoulder heal from the surgery, But you couldn’t help it. You’ve been always the type of person who rushed into action without thinking about anything else. Kinda like another fellow southpaw that she was great friends with. Sawamura Eijun. 

Fortunately, Sawamura had not gone through a physical injury as you had. But he did go through yips which a lot of people would argue it’s the worst. Since it’s something that ultimately only players themselves can overcome. He was strong enough to do it. 

‘Will I? Will be strong enough?’ Tears were forming in the corner of your eyes, threatening to fall. Softball was everything to you. It has been everything since you discovered the sport when you were just mere eight years old. You loved to pitch. There was nothing more exhilarating than getting on the mound. How life would be if you had to end up quitting the sport you love so much? 

‘Knock Knock,’ you heard a light tapping on the door. You quickly wiped your tears with your right hand. The last thing you needed was to someone see you cry. “Yes?” you replied timidly, craning your head to the side to see who it was. The door opens but instead of seeing someone, you’re met with a bouquet of blue irises. “How are you feeling, y/n-chan?” she heard a masculine voice ask as he moved the bouquet to the side to reveal his face. 

“Kazuya?” you asked in mild disbelief. Sure, you expected him to come to visit you since he was your boyfriend. But not this soon. “What are you doing here?” 

The catcher flashed you his signature smirk. “What? I can’t visit my girlfriend after she had surgery?” he replied with a question of  his own.

 He turned to go to the small bathroom that was in the room to fill up the vase that he already had. 

You snorted. “It’s not that,” you said. “I just wasn’t expecting you to come this soon. I thought you would come after practice,” you explained, following his every moment. He placed the vase on the nightstand next to you, before taking a seat. “Thank you. They are very beautiful.” 

This time around he shot you a sincere smile. “I’m glad you like them.” 

Your heart skipped a beat. Miyuki never ceased to cause that effect on you. Even when you were feeling at your lowest, his presence was always warming and comforting. However, that didn’t mean that you were ready for his visit. If he noticed that something was wrong with you then he would find a way to make you talk which you were not ready for. 

Aside from being insanely handsome and insufferable, he was also extremely good at reading other people.

‘Why did I have to pick a catcher as my boyfriend?’

“You didn’t answer my question,’ Miyuki pointed out, now in a more concerned tone. “Are you in pain?” he asked. 

“Oh sorry,” you averted your gaze, feeling flustered. “I’m not in pain. At least not yet. I’m still a bit groggy due to the anesthesia.” 

Miyuki nodded. “Should you be sleeping then?” 

You giggled while you playfully rolled your eyes. “I’m fine, mom.” 

The catcher grumbled. “That’s not a nice attitude, young lady,” he played along. 

You let out a small laugh. Your underlying anxiety was seeming to subside a bit. “Hai, Hai.” 

“You should get plenty of rest so you can recover soon,” Miyuki said without a trace of playfulness in his tone. “I mean it,” he added. 

“Will I?” you whispered, mainly to yourself. Your concerns were starting to bother you again. 

“What was that?” he asked. 

You shook your head in response, turning your head in the opposite direction so he can’t see you. You were starting to feel emotional again and didn’t want to risk crying in front of him. 

“Y/n-chan, are you okay?” Miyuki asked, worried. 

“Yes,” you replied without turning to look at him. 

“Y/n-chan,” he called out your name in a firmer tone. 

“No,” you shook your head with tears streaming down your face. “I’m not okay,” you break down. 

Miyuki didn’t say anything as he got up from the chair and sat next to you on the bed. He gently wrapped your arms around you, careful so he wouldn’t hurt you, and started stroking your hair. You desperately hugged him back and sobbed in his arms. 

“I’m scared, Kazuya,” you said in between sobs. “I know it’s silly but I’m scared. I’m scared that I’m not going to be ever be the same. That I’m not going to be able to pitch again,” you confessed your darkest fears. 

The catcher shook his head. “It’s not silly,” he said firmly. “It’s completely normal that you feel scared.” 

You looked up at him. “Really?” 

“Of course,” Miyuki said, wiping a tear away from the corner of your eye. “Every athlete that gets injured has that same fear,” he added in a matter- of- fact tone. “Especially you since pitchers are the most selfish players,” he said in jest. 

You pouted and rolled your eyes. “And you catchers are control freaks.” 

Miyuki let out a dry chuckle. “Maybe we are,” he half-admitted. “I was scared to y’know? When I got injured. Yes, I was being reckless and still played when I wasn’t supposed to, but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t scared. Even when the doctor said that it would just take a few weeks to recover. I was scared that the team was going to leave me behind.” 

You widened your eyes in shock. “Why didn’t you tell me that back then?” 

“Why didn’t you want to tell me how you were feeling just now?” he countered.

You bit your lip. “It’s not easy to talk about it.”

“No, it’s not,” he said in agreement. “Y/n you’re the strongest and most determined person I know. I believe in you and your strength. So I know that you’re going to do even the impossible so you can start playing again. You’re not going to give up,” he said with a gentle smile. 

You couldn’t help but smile back at him, feeling a warm fuzzy sensation all over you. Immediately feeling that his words were lifting up your spirits. You didn’t know how he did it, but he always knew what to say in the most difficult moments even with his awkward phase. 

“Thank you, Kazuya,” you said in gratitude. 

“You don’t have to thank me. I believe in you and I’ll be there for you every step of the way. Even when you don’t believe in yourself.” 

A single tear streams down your face. “Do you promise?” you asked, sticking out your pinky finger.

Miyuki wrapped his pinky finger around yours. “I promise.” 

You didn’t know what the future had in store for you during your recovery process and you knew that Miyuki couldn’t promise that everything was going to be alright. But knowing that he was  always going to be with you brought you the comfort and confidence you needed to face this challenge head-on.

daiya no ace / ace of the diamond characters as edm genres + examples

raving is a common past time of a lot of asian americans so in an alt universe where they're as-am im gonna predict what subgenre they'd be into / what genre would represent them.

sawamura kuramochi and isashiki are def headbangers. sawamura would def ride the rail. haruichi would def be an illenium simp. miyuki and furuya would def be into john summit. idc.

im gonna focus on seido for this ! doing all of them would be hard so im just gonna pick a few characters i could definitely categorize.

overall, i think seido would be dubstep, but a specific type (subgenre of a subgenre???) like edm songs that have very melodic verses but have a hard dubstep drop in either the middle or at the end. two songs came to mind.

for act I seido, i thought of dont look down (hold on) by excision, wooli, and codeko.

i feel like i can imagine the players singing the verses to each other: holding each other up, keeping each other focused, reminded each other of everything they did to get to the place where they are now. for both this song and the next song, i think the hard drop represents the burst of energy or passion they feel during critical points in a game.

for act II seido, i thought of shivering by illenium and spiritbox.

similar to the last song, but i think this song is more angsty and intense, in a sense. i feel like the verses refer to a past in which they suffered or endured something difficult. i can feel this song being representative of the new team as they fight for their old third years and rebuild themselves from the bottom up. i imagine singing this song to their opponents and also each other, about what they've learned and the intense determination to succeed that they hold.

with their loud personalities and fiery attitudes, i think kuramochi and sawamura would be hardstyle.

i dont think theres a moment in this song where it truly slows down. the pounding bass represents his footsteps, and the quick tempo represents his speed. truly encompasses the cheetah.

as for sawamura, his take on hardstyle would definitely be the songs with epic sounding narration.

sub zero project has many songs like this, but path of the warrior is definitely sawamura's type. he would definitely call himself and his teammates warriors 💀💀

jokes aside, this type of hardstyle is also very uplifting. as "epic-sounding" the narration in the song is, it fits into his role as ace of lifting up the teams spirits. it also reminded me of his pre-game speech of asking for his teammates to prepare for any balls. best boy eijun :)

literally just scrolling through my edm playlist while brainstorming and it hit me that furuya is so the dominate vip by space laces. i'd say this genre has both dubstep, techno, and big room influences.

[for those of you who are unfamiliar with edm terminology, vip stands for variation in production. similar meaning to remix, except a vip holds more of the original song content (i think lol)]

though his personality is not as intense as say, sawamura or kuramochi mentioned above, i dont think this means he's exactly a wallflower either. this song is more "laidback" in the sense of perhaps tempo, but the hard-hitting drop and the quick intervals between them reminded me of furuya's pitches; nonstop, heavy pitches. despite his chiller demeanor, do not underestimate him on-the-field.

switching gears, haruichi is a quite positive and uplifting character that nicely balances out sawamura and furuya. as such, i felt that he would fit progressive house. still energetic, but has softer elements to it. i think he's pretty encouraging to his teammates and genuinely cares about them a lot, so superhuman by tritonal and codeko came to mind.

the lyrics make me imagine haruichi saying these uplifting words to his teammates, such as in moments when they doubt their abilities or begin to place blame on solely themselves. i think he'd be one to remind them that they're all in it together.

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

as i was writing haruichi's entry, hollow by dabin, kai wachi, and lo spirit came on. immediately thought about okumura. it has elements of both dubstep and melodic bass.

the lyrics made me think about okumura being inspired by his seniors, particularly sawamura and miyuki. especially sawamura, who seemingly teaches okumura the art of being in a battery. when he was just getting used to the team, okumura did come off as hollow, but after getting to know sawamura, it seems that he's gaining valuable experience and knowledge in both life and baseball. i think the melodic bass aspect signifies the beauty of a baseball battery while the dubstep signifies okumura's solid presence and pressure on the field.

lowest of keys had trouble of thinking of something for miyuki, but i decided on make u sweat! by knock2 !! this is bass house.

i think knock2 is pretty revered in the edm community for being revolutionary in his music. with this song, i go beyond relating miyuki to just the song, but also the dj, as both are highly respected/well-known in their communities. both are young with big careers ahead of them in their respective fields. as for the song itself, i felt like sweat in itself pretty much represented him in both a game and in practice LMFAO but i also think miyuki is clever and playful, much like this song and other of knock2's works. catchy (no pun intended), addictive, and unique. that is miyuki kazuya. that is knock2.

high praise as knock2 is my fav dj and miyuki is my fav character

as a character, i thought chris you as comforting, soothing, and reliable. he's a little more lowkey, and so i knew to categorize him as house: miracle remix by calvin harris, ellie goulding, and mau p.

chris was vital to the series, not only to seido as a whole, but also for being a role model and inspiration to miyuku and sawamura, two very key players in the current seido team. his presence is a miracle as the song suggests. when i first heard this song, i was entranced by it; i was relaxed, yet i was also filled with energy. i think chris has the same effect: a comforting presence, but he inspires you to do more.

as not only an anime/daiya no ace post, but also an edm post, i dont think this list is complete without mentioning subtronics. (dubstep)

isashiki is def subtronicscore: scream saver by subtronics.

this song bursts your ears; it's intense, heavy, ear-splitting, but you can't help to listen to it.

isashiki is loud, hence scream saver. particularly at the moment where it says "target marked," it made me think about him hitting the ball with his bat, sending it flying. he plays for "the kill," or for the win, in other words. i imagine him challenging his opponents and securing victory for his team with this song.

I thought of an idea that I’m sure has been done before but imagine:

Karasuno as baseball players — what positions would they be??

I have my own ideas but I thought maybe you’d like to brainstorm with me!

anon!!! i love this thank u so much for letting me brainstorm with u. i’ve seen a few hq baseball au’s but most of them don’t really go into what positions people would play other than who the main battery would be. i’m trying to think about what positions would suit them physically but also fit with their growth as characters. i got SO into this and i loved thinking about how their skills as volleyball players translated to another sport lol. it got SO LONG though so i had to put it under a read more 💀💀💀

of course we’re going to have the kagehina battery. i know everyone makes the setters the catchers in baseball aus but kageyama was made to be a catcher okay. super agile and has great reflexes, great lower body strength, strong arm, amazing game sense, quick thinker. superrrrr high baseball iq. it’s perfect. and we’re obviously making hinata a pitcher. almost all of hinata’s motivation comes from him wanting to prove people who look down on him wrong and i think that would translate nicely to him being a pitcher. he definitely would’ve still been looked over because of his height and body type. i hate to compare him to eijun in dna because i’m trying not to compare characters too much but i think he probably definitely has something very special about his pitching that kageyama witnessed during his last at bat against hinata in their middle school game. their dynamic just fits perfectly for this. i honestly could go on and on about a kagehina battery lol.

suga’s going to be our relief catcher. i think he has a good eye for baseball and pretty good reflexes but not the best throwing arm. until kageyama comes around to challenge him he probably struggles with making risky calls especially late in the game.

as for other pitchers, im going to make asahi a pitcher. he probably has a really heavy fastball, maybe also a curveball. our beloved asahi just starts out with the spine of a limp noodle and doesn’t necessarily have the mental fortitude it takes to be a pitcher. i think he and suga would make a great battery but i think before kageyama and hinata came, suga would have definitely prioritized asahi’s mental state over his play calling in order to keep him in the game as long as possible. him being a pitcher also allows he and noya to still have their whole “dont you know i’m right behind you” dynamic.

karasuno is a team that probably struggles with finding pitchers. i think tanaka at least really WANTED to be a pitcher, but definitely had to come to terms that he would be better at another position. maybe not super popular but i’m kind of thinking about yamaguchi as a pitcher?? i struggle choosing between putting him as a closing pitcher that they only use in certain situations or a pinch hitter. i think both fit his character well. i could see him wanting to perfect a pitch that hinata and asahi don’t have but i can also see him working really hard on his batting. whhhdjdjdjd i can’t decide, let me come back to him later.

okay now, 1B we obviously have big man sawamura daichi. not tall but he’s broad which is good for first base. big strong man with good game sense and quick reflexes. BIG POWER HITTER. my guy probably breaks karasuno’s record for most home runs in a season during his third year. i love him.

okay second baseman is who i’m struggling with the most. i don’t see any of karasuno’s starters being on second base. they need to be quick, they need to have a good eye, they need to be skilled, they need to be consistent at bat. call me crazy but i’m kind of thinking narita? i originally had ennoshita at 2b and narita at 3b, but narita isn’t as physically strong as ennoshita, but he has pretty good speed and his game sense in haikyuu is 4/5, so i think he would do better at 2b.

short stop we obviously have noya. besides kageyama he’s probably the best player on the team. really could honestly play any position that’s how good he is. doesn’t have height but his inhuman reflexes make up for it. he’s fast and much stronger than he looks. he can jump. amazinggggg agility. noya is just amazing and probably got a million offers to play at different high schools.

third base, i feel like most would put tanaka here and i GET THAT but i’m putting ennoshita because i remembered that furudate said he was one of the strongest characters in hq even though his stats don’t really reflect that lmfao. he’s super similar to daichi though so i think if he beefed up a little he’s make a great third baseman. probably a big hitter but ennoshita strikes me as someone who struggles to get on base. strong arm though.

okay NOW FOR OUTFIELD. considering how fucking insane japanese high school baseball is, your outfielders have to be pretty good and narratively i think these people would also be good in outfield. i did kind of struggle with this because tsukki, tanaka, and kinoshita all have different strengths but are lacking in other areas.

i’m putting tanaka at center field okay. i think out of the three of them he makes the most sense to play center and is overall a little better technically than the other two. his power stat in hq is 5/5 so i think that would translate well to him having a really really good throwing arm and also being a good power hitter. tanaka’s game sense sucks but he makes up for it with strength and being able to jump.

kinoshita is going in right field. tanaka is stronger but kinoshita is faster. he’ll definitely have to work on his strength and if he was better all around i would rather have him in center field but i think he’ll do well there.

and then we have tsukishima. i think tsukishima should be in outfield not only because of his skillset but because i think it makes sense with his character arc. tsukki probably was put in the outfield as a kid and became a little complacent because “oh i’m in the outfield i don’t have to try as hard because this is where they put the bad players.” it works well with his “it’s just a club” mindset. i think he would learn pretty fast that at the level they’re wanting to play at, outfield isn’t where they put the bad players. so he’s going in left field because of how good of a defensive player he is. has the weakest arm out of the three of those and also isn’t a big hitter but he has great game sense and can be fast if he tries. i think he would definitely still have his ~moment~ while playing against shiratorizawa that makes him realize how much he actually loves baseball and wants to try to be better.

-yamaguchi (?????)(ph) (i’m going to have to think on him, i kind of like the idea of yamaguchi wanting to be in outfield with tsukki but then after seeing shimada pitch during that game with the neighborhood association deciding that he wants to try pitching?? i think it would work well with the motifs we see of him running on “ahead” of tsukishima, with him being in front of tsukki on the mound but i think his position as a pinch server is more similar to him being a pinch hitter in the sense that if he was a pitcher, he would have an entire inning or two to prove himself but as a pinch hitter, he only has that at bat to do something, just like how as a pinch server if he doesn’t get the ball in play during that first serve then it’s over for him. i dont know let me know what you think!!!!!!!)

Eijun peered up the snow-covered submit; wonderment and anticipation warred within him, the new norm now whenever they begin a raid. While the mountain itself was aesthetically beautiful, with its snow-covered caps, and especially the intricately designed castle that was built into the side. The arching pathways leading to said castle, however, were rather daunting. While most mountains had their fair share of danger, what with the chance of avalanches or rock slides; this one, in particular, was much more perilous if one considered what all lurked upon the paths. 

The portal for Shogun's Keep let them out, not quite at the bottom of the mountain, but on a smaller plateau that was leveled off before the real climb would begin. While they won't need any equipment to scale it thanks to the two branched-off pathways that bordered around a deep, crystallized chasm. The edge of each path was dotted with plinths —roughly as tall as Eijun— where clawed braziers rested atop, the flames flickered whenever a particularly fluffy snowflake was unfortunate enough to drift lazily into the heat. The snowfall had been mild, yet consistent; and thankfully, it didn't obscure their vision. All it would take was one misstep to plummet down the gorge. Eijun wouldn't want to imagine what it would be like to maneuver through Shogun's Keep during a blizzard; that was if the weather actually ever changed. Some raids had cycling weather, while others were in a perpetual state of rain, shine, snow, or even night or day.

A/N: This is just a filler for the start of the series. It's been a while since I posted from any of my other stories beside my 'Love Yourself' series. It's a little rocky and boring but I thought it would be good to introduce the two love interests and a future dynamic that'll help shape the OC into a better version of themselves. Also, a small warning that this is based off a sports anime so I may end up writing summaries of the games since they play a factor into the characters and how they react to outside stimuli beside baseball.

The match against Yakushi was an intense match that made it hard to look away from. Emiko especially enjoyed the match, getting to see not only the loud mouth first year in action but also seeing her old friend. When she saw the once indifferent Sanada show a change in his attitude on the mound it was exciting to watch. She had always said to him that if he actually tried he would go far in baseball but he would always wave her off, or just throw a sarcastic remark.

She worried about him constantly after they went their separate ways after middle school but seeing the team’s dynamic and positive influence on him made her feel at ease. Maybe she won’t bother him so much now. She would always message him to check up on if he were slacking off again. She knew he was inspired by the passion of his coach and new teammates but she didn’t realize to the degree until that match. Getting to see it all first hand made the negative thoughts she had originally go away.

While she wanted to approach her old friend after the game she realized that their reunion can be postponed for another day. The team was in tears when she saw them gathered together so she decided to make her way back to her group of friends she came with from Seido. They were all on the other side of the stadium congratulating their school. By the time she made it over to the group the team had started to pile on to the bus. By chance she was able to catch Miyuki’s attention so she aimed a small wave his way that made him smile and wave back before climbing on to the bus. “Oooo, looks like someone got their crush’s attention.”

“Crush? Nah, he’s just a friend. He is cute though isn’t he?” The nonchalant attitude made all her friends shake their heads at the amorous girl. It was hard to fluster her since she was pretty outgoing but also a bit of an air head. She probably wouldn’t even realize she had a crush on the guy until it hit her in the face. “Whatever you say. Let’s go back to the dorms now. It’s been such a long day,” Ichika says while fanning herself from the summer heat. “Let’s get ice cream on the way back!” Emiko exclaims while dragging the small group of girls along with her.

Meanwhile, Miyuki was watching her from his window with a smile on his face. He was so immersed in her that he didn’t realize that Chris had sat down next to him. The older boy could tell that he was infatuated with the familiar face. It was interesting to see him focused on something else other than baseball. “I think she’s gone now.” He finally speaks up, startling the catcher. “When did you sit down?”

“A while ago. You seem really interested in her.” He didn’t have to look over at him to know that Miyuki was blushing. “She’s just a friend.”

“I know.” It was quiet for some time until Sawamura decided to put his two cents in, “Who is she? You never tell me when I ask.”

“Yeah cause I don’t need you bothering her. She already thinks you’re an idiot, probably.”

“She is always hanging out with my classmate, I could always ask her to introduce me.” The idiot was starting to tick Miyuki off but he wouldn’t put it past him to bother Emiko’s friend. He just rubs his temple in annoyance before saying, “Why are you so interested in knowing about her?”

“Cause she’s pretty,” The simple answer made Miyuki look back at the younger pitcher in annoyance while he continued, “Plus she’s always going to our games and sometimes passes by during practice to say hi. Oh and Hina was reading an article about her in some magazine. She seems really impressive. Hina also said she sometimes acts like me so I just wanted to know if that was true.” So it wasn’t because he had taken a romantic interest in the girl. Miyuki realized he was just intrigued by the declaration that they were similar. He didn’t want to admit it but there were a lot of similarities but she wasn’t on the same wavelength of stupidity as him. She was witty and her personality wasn’t overwhelming to him like Sawamura was sometimes, (all the time really but he was used to it). Finally giving in, “Her name is Emiko Onishi.”

“Onishi. You should introduce me to her.”

“Not a chance in hell.”

“Oh come on! I won’t say anything to her! Miyuki!”

“Shut up Sawamura!” Kuramochi yells from the back of the bus. “But he won’t introduce me to Onishi-chan!”

“Onishi? He finally told you her name.” The hyena laugh that followed made Miyuki stand at attention. He was definitely up to something. “You can just introduce yourself. Emi is like that. She’s been wanting to meet you too.”

‘Traitor’, Miyuki thinks to himself. “No, don’t introduce yourself to her.”

“But she’s been wanting to meet me.”

“What the hell!? Why only that idiot?!” Jun exclaims, “You need to introduce us all to her.” This was exactly why he didn’t want to introduce Sawamura to her, because once he opened his big mouth the rest of the team would bother him about it. Kuramochi was dead when they got back to the dorms. The bus ride home felt longer than before since everyone was now asking about the girl. He wasn’t too happy about the thought of having to share her attention with even more people.

When they got back to the dorms everyone went to the bathhouse to relax and clean up. Miyuki was drying his hair when he got a message from Emiko.

‘You did good today’

He smiled at the simple message. It was funny how simple her messages were in comparison to her boisterous personality. She never sent anything longer than a sentence. ‘Thanks. I didn’t know you were coming today.’

‘Wouldn’t miss it.’ That sentence alone made his heart stop for a moment but knowing her she didn’t really mean it in the sense that he originally thought. ‘You guys were playing my friend that invited me.’

That made him stop. Who exactly was this friend? ‘Who’s your friend?’

‘18.’ Well that made his entire mood drop. Her friend just so happened to be that guy. Miyuki wasn’t one to think less of himself. He was confident in himself, but even he could recognize that the guy was good looking. It didn’t help when he remembered the girlish screams in the crowd when he went up on the mound. He wanted to know where they even met in the first place and just how close they were but it wasn’t like he had any say in the matter. It wasn’t his business to know but he really did want to know if he had something to worry about. He lays down on his bed annoyed with himself. He sounded like Sawamura and he was annoyed with that fact. Looking at the screen with their messages pulled up he decided to reply, ‘The pitcher?’

‘Yup the best one.’ His annoyance rose after that comment so he avoided the conversation instead. He was just lucky she wasn’t much of a texter. She would go on for hours about another guy if they were talking in person and he wasn’t sure he would be able to control his facial expressions at that moment. ‘Speaking of pitchers, Sawamura said he wants to meet you.’

‘Cool when are you guys free?’

‘We could slip away now if you’re free. We don’t meet up until a little while later in the evening. It’ll be quick though.’

‘Sure, where at?”

‘Just outside the boy dorm area. Meet you there in a few minutes.’

‘See ya.’

With that he went off to find Sawamura. It didn’t take long considering he had three main places he could be. This time he happened to find the simple minded kid in his room resting before their meeting. “Yo, you wanted to meet Emi right?” That made the ace pop up off the bed fast. “You really mean it?”

“Yeah, turns out that way. Hurry up, she's already on her way over and we have some time before we have to meet up with the team.” Sawamura rushes to get his shoes on to meet with the girl that has piqued his interest for some time now. First with his battery partner and then ironically with his seat partner when she kept comparing him to the mystery girl. “Try not to say or do anything embarrassing.”

“Yes sir!” Miyuki couldn’t help but think that it was a good thing that she's already aware that he’s a loud mouth.

Walking to the entryway of the boys dorm room they were able to spot the girl in the distance, looking around. Her eyes landed on Miyuki and a huge smile made its way onto her face while she waved at him. Looking at her now, she really did seem similar to Sawamura in terms of personality.

“So this is the kid you talk about?” She says when they got close enough in her vicinity.

“Yes ma’m! My name is Sawamura Eijun,first year pitcher. My favorite subject is sports, my favorite food is anything but natto, my hobbies are catching beetles and watching sumo wrestling, my-“ Miyuki cuts him off before he could keep going with more nonsense, “What did I tell you?”

While Miyuki was embarrassed by the boy, Emiko laughed in amusement. “Nice to meet you, my name is Emiko Onishi! Favorite subjects are science and sports, my favorite food is meat, and my hobbies are gardening and playing cards.”

When Sawamura received the same type of energetic reply he worked himself up again. Seeing the two go back and forth excitedly he realized what a mistake this was. Two high sprung extroverts will be exhausting to deal with but maybe they could entertain each other from now on. He could get some peace and quiet for once.

“Oh it’s almost time for our meeting. There was something I wanted to ask you, ace-senpai.” Miyuki was not sure when that nickname came up; he lost track of their conversation midway. His best guess was the fact that Maimi led the school team to go to nationals in her first year. This year's season seemed to be going in the same direction because of their star player. “Sure, ask away.”

“My goal is to become the ace of this team but today at the game I fell short.”

“Oh you mean when that kid hit a home run off of you?” Sawamura flinched at the blunt words from his new friend but he couldn’t say much back, “What about it? I thought it was a good pitch, but I guess I don’t know much about baseball.��� The older girl shrugs her shoulders.

That didn’t exactly ease Sawamura’s nerves or make him feel better but Emiko wasn’t the best person for that. At least for a normal person. “What made you become the ace your first year? What did you do?”

“Hm? Like what besides training?” The fact that he was asking this made her recognize the mindset he was stuck in. She remembers having the same problems in the first half of her first year. She wasn’t the star player everyone likes to sing praises about, in fact she was pretty far off from it. She had failed to handle the ball and was more of a liability than an asset. That season she fell so deep in a rut that she fought tooth and nail to crawl her way out of that deep abyss.

Thinking back to her days first starting off she did her best to figure out what was the best advice she could give to the boy. “Well…for you I would just tell you to stop overthinking too much. The weight of the ace position is a pretty heavy duty. You dwell too much in your past mistakes but it’s all part of the process. It sucks in that moment but you’ll come to realize that it’s more beneficial to leave those mistakes in the past. It just packs a bigger weight on top of an already heavy load.” Patting his shoulder to reassure him, “you’re a good pitcher. I’m looking forward to watching you so keep your head up.”

Sawamura admired the girl and her achievements seemed endless when Hina told him about her. She obviously looked up to her a lot and meeting her now in person made him realize why. Although he wasn’t feeling completely better he did start to feel lighter.

Miyuki could tell that Sawamura was starting to get back to normal and he hoped that he took her words to heart. “Alright time to go,” he says while pulling Sawamura away.

“Oh get my contact info from Miyuki! See you guys later. Good luck tomorrow!” The wave was cute but the smile was what got to Miyuki all the time. “Did you catch the sports broadcast last night?”

Eijun tries to hide his excitement when he asks you, he’s always bad at it though—especially over the phone. You can practically feel the buzzing around him.

“I did. You looked really cool.” You answer.

“I did, didn’t I!” He laughed loudly at his restatement, you had to hold your phone away from your ear when he did. “The camera captured my good side, huh?”

“All your sides are good, Ei.” You reply. You really shouldn’t feed into his ego but teasing him was always fun.

He lets out a nervous laugh and you swear you can sense that he’s rubbing the back of his neck with an embarrassed grin “Is that so!”

“Oi, Sawamura, call it a night. We’ve got an early morning tomorrow.”

You frown when you hear the voice in the background, Eijun immediately protesting loudly at the person. “Eijun, it’s alright.” You mutter, chuckling when you hear him grumble. “You get some rest, okay? We can call again when you’re not busy or supposed to be sleeping.”

“Okay.” He whispered. “I’ll see you soon.”

There’s more of a questioning tone in his voice as he says that, to be fair, he really does have no idea when he’ll see you again. He just hopes it’s soon.

“Yeah,” you nod, “I’ll see you soon.”
