The Best Travel Scuba Dive In Malapascua
Tumblr media
So you’re off on your next big Scuba dive trip, but you’ve got one problem – how are you possibly going to fit all of that dive gear on the plane?! Don’t panic. Nowadays, there are plenty of options when it comes to travel-friendly dive gear. From lightweight regulators to the perfect scuba dive roller bag, take a look at some of our favorite travel scuba gear that will reduce the hassle at the airport.
Mask and fins
Even if they choose to not bring along any other dive gear, many divers will still bring their own mask and fins at a minimum. These items are perhaps the easiest dive gear to bring along on your travels (at least the mask, as fins can sometimes be cumbersome). Many divers decide to bring these items along based on the need for a more personalized fit. Sometimes, rental masks and fins from a dive shop won’t fit just right, making for an uncomfortable dive. Who wants to be clearing their mask the entire time, or constantly adjusting their fin straps? These recommended masks and fins are perfect for dive travel
TUSA Zensee Mask
As TUSA’s first frameless mask, this product is perfect for the on-to-go diver. Able to fold flat in your bag, this mask is lightweight and compact, but doesn’t compromise on performance. With a special fitting ring integrated into the mask skirt, this mask provides a perfect fit for faces of all shapes and sizes. The sleek design and color options will also keep you looking cool underwater.
TUSA M-1010 Zensee Scuba Diving Mask, White
Also consider grabbing a neoprene mask strap cover for increased comfort, as the silicone strap can pull your hair.
These fins are specifically made to be travel-friendly. Sized to fit easily within International Air Transport Association (IATA) compliant carry-on bags, these fins can go with you anywhere your dive travels may take you. The fins include Scuba pro’s special Piggy Back Stack system, meaning the fins snap together to make them easier to carry on the go.
They are lightweight, yet still strong and durable enough to give you the power you need underwater. These fins come with a stretchable bungee heel strap, making it super easy to slip them on and off. Made to be worn barefoot, these fins can also be worn with a neoprene sock if desired. This style is also suitable for snorkeling, for those dips in the ocean in between dives.
Out of all scuba dive gear, BCDs are perhaps the hardest to bring along with you on vacation. Many are heavy and bulky, and don’t easily fit inside your suitcase. These special travel models will make your life easier:
Cressi Travelight
The Cressi Travelight BCD is a great addition to your travel scuba gear. Incredibly lightweight and easily foldable, this BCD will fit in your suitcase with no issues. Designed to keep you balanced both underwater and at the surface, divers will find it easy to move around in this BCD. It has a built-in integrated weight system with additional trim pockets on the back. The adjustable shoulder straps and cummerbund will ensure that you have the perfect fit. Available in black with either blue, pink, or yellow accenting, this BCD will add style to your travel dive kit.
Designed with travel in mind, the Oceanic Biolite BCD is incredibly lightweight at only 5.5 pounds/2.5 kilograms. Available in black with either blue or pink accent colors, this BCD is perfect for just about everyone. It comes with an integrated weight system, capable of holding 7 pounds/3.2 kilograms in each of the two side pockets. With an incredibly low profile, this BCD is easily foldable to pack away in your dive travel bag. Despite its compact design, this BCD does not compromise on lift, and will keep you at perfect neutral buoyancy during your dive.
Oceanic BioLite BCD - LG
Likely one of the heavier pieces in your dive kit, you may choose to not bring a regulator along with you on your travels for fear of going over your luggage weight limit. However, today there are many options out there for high-quality, lightweight regulators that are perfect for the dive traveler. Check out these models to see if any look right for your next dive adventure:

Apeks XL4+
The Apeks XL4+ is the perfect compact regulator to bring on your travels. Low in weight and small in design, this regulator won’t put you over the weight limit when you head to the airport check in desk. Besides being a great lightweight regulator for travel, the Apeks XL4+ also delivers superior quality. Compatible with Nitrox up to 40%, this regulator is also capable of being cleaned for use with up to 100% oxygen.
Perfect for all diving conditions, this regulator comes with an environmental seal, meaning it won’t freeze up at cold temperatures. It’s a great option to have for travel, and can be upgraded for use in your tech diving kit should you ever choose to go that route. The Apeks XL4+ comes in both yoke and DIN designs.
Aqualung Mikron
The Aqualung Mikron is many divers’ top choice when it comes to travel regulators. Small in size and compact in design, this lightweight regulator easily fits into your carry on luggage. With 2 high pressure ports and 4 low pressure ports, this regulator can handle a lot of extra accessories, like an air pressure transmitter. The second stage is pneumatically balanced, making for easy breathing no matter the conditions. The airflow level is adjustable, allowing you to alter the flow to suit your needs. Equipped with a Comfo-Bite mouthpiece, this regulator won’t cause added strain on your jaw.
Travel-friendly dive bags
Now that you’re equipped with a travel-ready set of dive equipment, you need something to put it all in! These dive bags are perfect for the scuba jetsetter – versatile, lightweight, and with enough room for everything you’ll need on your next dive adventure.
Aqualung Explorer II Duffle Pack
The Aqualung Explorer II Duffle Pack is the ultimate bag for dive travelers. Designed as an International Air Transport Association (IATA) compliant carry-on bag, you are guaranteed to be able to bring this bag in the cabin with you. Complete with outside straps for your fins, this bag is equipped with all of the space you’ll need for your travel dive gear. Available in black, blue, glacier, orange, red, and yellow, this bag is suitable for everyone.
With corrosion-resistant zippers and a two year warranty, you won’t have to worry about damage when it comes to this duffle. There is a mesh pocket on the outside for drying all of your scuba accessories on the road. The adjustable duffel straps can also be converted into backpack straps for alternate carrying options.
Cressi Moby 5 Roller Bag
The Cressi Moby 5 Roller Bag is perfect for those who would prefer to wheel their scuba dive equipment, rather than carry it on their back. However, for those who still prefer a backpack style, this bag also comes with storable straps that can be hidden when not in use. The scuba shop has plenty of luggage space, including a large main compartment, two front compartments, two side pockets, and a small upper pocket. Large diameter wheels make it easy to roll even the heaviest dive equipment using this bag.
Traveling with dive gear in tow doesn’t need to be a huge hassle. With these travel-friendly dive equipment options, you can get to your destination with ease.

This school of scalloped hammerheads was not a sight we expected to see, but what a sight it was! Experts are actually unsure why scalloped hammerheads school, but some theorize they school this way as juveniles, and continue the behavior into young adulthood!

getting emotional over footage of an amateur scuba diver interacting with a coelacanth. they are hunted by large deepwater predators, and here comes a large creature bearing the brightest lights it's ever seen, making strange noises, but it does not shy away. it hovers, calmly, as the diver reaches out and trails a hand down its back. im strongly against the anthropomorphizing of real life animals but the stupid emotional part of me loudly insists this is because it recognizes us, the alternating movements of its four paired limbs matching the diver's four paired limbs, & it is thinking, "hello, cousins, we missed you these 66 million years, it's so good to see you again. welcome back, welcome home."
