💭 —

MBTI || Atlas is an INTJ-A and Alastair is an INTJ-T.

The INTJ-A (or “Architect”) personality is characterized by being introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging, making them strategic, analytical, and independent thinkers who value logic and systems.

The INTJ-T (or “Turbulent”) personality is characterized by being success-driven, perfectionistic, and eager to improve, often noticing small problems and striving for constant improvement.

💯 —

Atlas is very musically inclined. He plays the guitar and the drums, and later on joins a band with Kokoa and Kau’i. They have frequent gigs and for a while it’s his one source of employment throughout everything.

He loves junk food. His favourite type of food is surprisingly McDonalds, as that’s what he first tried after getting out of Eden for the first time.

Atlas is obsessed with movies. Although he’s not very media literate (what being apart of a cult all your life will do to you), he loves watching them for fun. Some of his favourites are old cheesy rom-coms, something you’d least expect from the hardened soldier.

Alastair cannot handle spicy foods at all. He’s someone who has only ever eaten food from the church and the orphanage so he has built up no tolerance. Wren had him try a hot cheeto once and he almost cried and gagged on it for a minute straight.

Thinks dogs are really cool. He’s never seen one in real life before though.

He developed no hobbies outside of studying files in the archives so when he leaves the church, he finds himself unable to pass the time and tends to spiral in his own thoughts. This often results in panic attacks but he doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of Atlas and Wren and so he hides his face in his shirt and holds in his own breaths until he’s gagging and shaking.

🩹 —

Atlas and Alastair both have a myriad of mental issues/disabilities. A large part of their arc revolves around this, and it’s something that the both of them have to overcome over the course of the story.

Atlas is formally diagnosed with both c-PTSD and PTSD, resulting from extreme trauma throughout his childhood and the result of living through a war, and becoming a prisoner to Eden. He is also diagnosed with amnesia from brain damage when he is 18, something that affects him for many years after the fact. Because of his brain damage he is also very susceptible to concussions and migraines, and especially sensitive to light. This grows worse as he ages.

Atlas was also written to be autistic-coded, although he doesn’t ever recieve an “official” diagnosis for it.

Alastair is diagnosed with depression by the time he is about 23, although it was something he struggled with for most of his life. He also deals with heavy suicidal ideation by the time he is 21, and it only becomes worse as time wears on. Alastair, although never formally diagnosed, is selectively mute, something which he’s had to deal with since he was about 5-years-old. He develops agoraphobia in his early 20’s as well, something that dictates his life for a long time.

Overall Alastair deals with a lot of mental health issues, although he doesn’t actually get a name for a lot of them. Like Atlas, he is meant to be autistic-coded, though he is also OCD and anxiety coded, and could be read as having paranoia. And as a result of the war, he does deal with PTSD symptoms.

tldr; atlas and alastair are extremely mentally ill and do NOT have the time to deal with it

Atlas and Alastair also end up with quite a few physical disabilities, as result of living through a war.

Atlas ends up losing his right arm when he is 18, and wears a prosthetic for the rest of his life. He also suffers from nerve damage in his right hand, having very bad grip control and frequently experiencing tremors. His vocal cords suffer a lot of damage from the electric collar he was forced to wear at Eden, and he ends up losing his left eye, later wearing a prosthetic. Overall his body ends up pretty damaged by the time the war is over, and he deals with chronic pain for the rest of his life.

Alastair struggles with extreme chronic pain post-canon. He loses his left leg near the end of the war, as well as suffers severe burns to the left side of his face which renders him blind in that eye. His body never fully recovers from the injuries that he sustains while in the final battle circa 2043.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever fully went into depth with what exactly their powers are, but both of them are Magicus, which means they were born with a power.

Atlas has power absorption. He can mimic others abilities and use them as his own. While this is ability is activated the other person’s power is weaker than it usually would be. In some examples he can mimic physical abilities of humans as well, which in turn drains their energy. And while his power is in use, his eyes glow.

Alastair has void. He is able to change the mass of his body into literal shadow. While in his shadow form, he can see everything — time, space, the makeup of the universe itself.

Although they both have powers, their ideologies when it comes to magic contrasts greatly.

Atlas sees nothing wrong with his powers, having been raised in an environment where it was normalized. He frequently had to train using his power, and activating it is like something as simple as breathing to him. He uses it almost every day as it gives him an advantage on the battlefield, and isn’t afraid to use it if it means winning a fight or completing his mission.

Alastair, on the other hand, doesn’t want anything to do with his powers. He hates using them — refuses to do so, actually. He has sworn to himself that he won’t become like what everyone else had thought of him. He doesn’t have really any control over them because of this, and is not nearly as experienced as Atlas is. He views his powers as more of a curse than a gift, opposite of Atlas.

(Ironic, considering Atlas comes from Eden, which is strict about magic and thinks it’s something to be controlled, not used. While Alastair comes from the Congregation, which is proud about their status as Magicae.)

Announcing Chapter 1 of On the Edge of the Knife now on AO3!

Father Primo Emeritus, having faked his death for the Ghost project, has spent the past several years as the head of a tiny Satanic church in a crumbling small town. A former resident of that town approaches him with an offer: human sacrifice to try to fix a few things in the world. As a bonus, with such a sacrifice, he could ask Satan to make his own world a little less lonely in his last few years.

Primo doesn't have any problem with human sacrifice. But as he coaches Eden towards the ritual, he does find himself reluctant for other reasons. But there are many ways to take a life...

Primo/OC story. Sacrifice-to-lovers involving slightly dubiously consensual D/s, kinky sex, a risotto-cooking ghoul, family of origin versus family of choice, and how no matter where you go you can't escape yourself—but sometimes, if you're lucky, you can find someone to love you exactly where you are.

There had a been a time, not even too long ago, when he still dreamed of the warm Mediterranean winds, carrying to him the aroma of ripening grapes, the rustle of olive leaves, the salt-taste of the sea. In those dreams he was young again, strong legs and strong back, a whole world open before him. But he was too old now for such foolishness. Closer to the sunset of his life than to the warm honey-soaked dawn, his dreams now were as cold and still as the Midwestern winters that inhabited his waking hours. Perhaps once he had bitten into the promises of life and found them sweet, but now the fruit of it bruised and rotted under his fingers.

Eden tapped her pencil against the metal cafeteria table, looking around at the sea of students filling the tables, engaged in meaningless conversations about who was going where for the weekend. Laughter and chatter bounced off the pale brick walls, but her focus shifted from her thoughts when Jayce approached with his food in hand.

"Hey, I heard you’re actually going to make an appearance in science club after school today. Is that true?" he asked, hope in his eyes as he sat down and began to eat. She looked up at him, eyeing the amount of food he managed to fit onto his tray, before giving a sarcastic smirk. She tapped her chipped black nails against the table, a playful glint in her eyes. "Maybe. It depends on how fast you get on my nerves today."

He stopped mid-chew, looking up at her with amusement. He swallowed quickly, taking a swig of water before smiling back at her. "Right. Well, if you decide to come this time, maybe you’ll finally meet Viktor. You two are so alike, it’s actually really weird. I’m telling you, it’s like you’re the same person," he remarked before returning to his meal. She rolled her eyes at his statement.

"You keep saying that, but I’m not sure I believe you. You know what happened the last time I got involved with a 'genius,'" she said, making air quotes, her face falling slightly at the memory. Jayce swallowed slowly before looking up at her. "Right, I’m sorry, Eden. But I promise, Viktor’s different. Not just from that asshole, but from… well, everyone, really," he said, scratching the back of his neck nervously, trying to get out of the hole he dug himself into.

She looked away for a minute, her eyes spotting a squirrel scurrying across the courtyard outside the window next to their table. When she looked back, she saw Jayce’s apologetic expression and decided to give him some mercy. It wasn’t his fault anyway. "You know," she began, trying to lighten the mood a bit, "you keep telling me how alike we are, but if we’re so similar, where’s he been hiding?" She flashed a smile that she hoped conveyed that she wasn’t upset with him. He took another swig of water, getting the hint.

"Robotics club, science club… take your pick." He shrugged before discarding his now-empty food tray and then sat back down. Eden sighed and ran a hand through her coarse brown and blue curls, twisting a strand absentmindedly. Another name in the crowd, she thought. Another genius she wasn’t sure lived up to the gossip. They each had a story, a background that was meant to tug at your heartstrings. How different could Viktor be?

Her mind wandered to her recent past, which involved a 'genius' who had promised her the world. In the end, all he did was lie and hurt her, treating their relationship as if it were nothing more than an equation to solve. She had learned her lesson; she would never let anyone do that to her again. That’s why she had sunk all her time into chemistry and music lately. Not only was it something to preoccupy her time and mind, but it never lied to her. Chemistry had rules; music had emotion — both things the self-proclaimed prodigy had never graced her with.

In a world full of uncertainties, she could call them a comfort, a home. She sighed and shook her head, discarding the remains of her food before heading to her math class. Today felt like it was going to be long, for sure.

Across campus, Viktor entered the science lab with Ekko, adjusting his guitar strap before leaning against the wall with his backpack. His fingers tapped rhythmically against the desk, rings clinking—a quiet habit he barely noticed anymore—as he waited for more students to file in. He glanced around at the posters lining the walls, his sharp eyes scanning without much interest.

Ekko finally sat down next to him, pulling out a notebook and some pens before turning to Viktor. "So, you’re actually going to the gig this weekend? For real?" he asked with a smirk. Viktor responded with his own small smile; his eyes reflected his dry wit.

"Of course," he said, pushing back a lock of brown and blonde hair. "Why wouldn’t I?"

Ekko rolled his eyes slightly as the teacher entered the room, preparing to begin class. "Dude, come on. You’re always too busy to go, but I’m glad you’re coming this time." Ekko glanced at the teacher to ensure class wasn’t starting just yet. "You know, Eden is going to be there. Maybe you’ll finally get to meet her." Viktor rolled his eyes, shaking his head slightly.

"I keep hearing about her. It’s starting to feel like it’s only a matter of time before we run into each other," he said, his eyebrow slightly arched.

Ekko chuckled lightly, glancing away from his friend for a moment. "Honestly, it feels like it, man," he said, facing him again. "You two are basically the same person. Smart, sarcastic, science nerds… Hell, she even paints her nails black." He gestured to Viktor’s nails, which, although slightly chipped, were also painted black.

Viktor chuckled softly as he pulled out his own notebook and pens. "Sounds like you’re describing a mirror." He looked back at his friend, his dry wit lacing his words.

"Pretty much," Ekko lightly swatted his shoulder with the back of his hand. "I can’t believe you haven’t met her. It’s like fate is teasing us or something." Viktor shook his head again; he didn’t buy into destiny — only hard work and logic. It seemed that people loved romanticizing things that didn’t need to be so complicated. After all, it was just meeting someone. How crazy could things really turn out?

By the time the bell rang, Eden was already making her way toward the science lab. As she walked through the hall, her conversation with Jayce earlier replayed in her mind. He always liked to draw parallels between people; he always liked seeing things that weren’t there. He was good at romanticizing things, that’s for sure. However, the way he described Viktor tugged at her thoughts. He was another name in a sea of names, which was certain, but the way Jayce had painted him piqued her interest. Smart, sarcastic, genius. What if he wasn’t wrong this time?

She shook her head at the thought, determined not to let another genius manipulate her. She’d learned her lesson the hard way, and she wasn’t about to fall for it again. She sighed as she approached the science lab, adjusting the rings on her fingers—a grounding habit she couldn’t seem to break. Jayce and Ekko had been talking about him for what felt like forever.

She opened the door slowly, noticing that it was mostly empty, except for one person holding a gold and black cane in their right hand. She caught a glimpse of the guitar case in the far corner, and as she set her things down, the person cleared his throat. She looked up, only to lock her light green eyes with his glowing amber ones.

"I didn’t hear anyone come in," he stated, with an accent evident with each word. She cleared her throat, trying to present herself as anything but surprised. "I’m a quiet person," she said, her face not reflecting much emotion.

He smirked, running a hand through his hair before taking a seat at the same table. "As am I," he started, facing her and holding out his hand. Their tattooed hands met in a firm shake. "Viktor," he said, locking eyes with her.

"Eden."
