YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching grey’s anatomy for the first time (season FIFTEEN, bc i’m actually not sick of these yet)

-i don’t like this whole “she’s not really your sister” thing. like, it’s played for comedic effect and teddy is clearly just hormonal and panicking so whatever but i don’t like that.

-i don’t want to rehash owen x amelia. yawn. nor do i want to rehash owen x teddy. yawner.

-i like that we’re getting a *little* deeper into helms crush on meredith and that it’s not just comic relief

-why are there no doctors above the age of 45 in this entire hospital besides richard? they’re all so pretty, but at what cost?

-something is going to happen to this pregnant nurse… there’s a lot of focus on her out of the blue

-i love that almost this entire intern class is at least mildly gay

-the shepherd family dynamic is so interesting to me because we’ve heard about it from two different perspectives over the years (derek’s and things amelia has said mostly in PP) and what we’ve seen of them is mostly from derek and meredith’s perspective in which they seem nice if a bit overbearing.

-okay jeez kathleen is a piece of work. i’ve always liked nancy even though she is “mcbitchy”. i also can’t help but to think about how addison fit into all of this when she and derek were married lol.

Way behind, doing it anyway!

1. When did you discover OFMD? A little later than everyone else. I think I started watching it after all the episodes had dropped, and people were talking about the Gay Pirates.

2. What was your first impression? I didn't quite hate it, and I wasn't sure I'd watch past the first three episodes. That was a surprise to me because I like Kiwi humor. I think the problem was I'd been hearing all about how the show was Amazingly Gay and the End of Queerbaiting and a Big Gay Romcom--and that's just not evident the first time you watch the first three episodes. Amazingly Gay gets a reasonable start, to be fair, and all of it is impossible to miss on rewatch. But the first time through, the End of Queerbaiting and a Big Gay Romcom feel like ridiculous oversells. And even with all the casually depicted queerness in the first three episodes, its amount of Amazingly Gay felt like not enough somehow? It might be partly that Stede presents as such a Camp Gay, and Thor Ragnarok made me a bit suspicious of Taika's handling of that type (in retrospect, that was almost certainly the fault of the MCU). That said, I was totally here for Taika, and he doesn't fully appear in the first three eps.

4. Reasons you like OFMD I love OFMD for all the reasons I thought I wouldn't make it past episode 3. 😂

I love the pervasive, matter-of-fact presentation of queerness in all its rich variety. I love the Big Gay Romance, and all the other supporting queer romances. I love the Revenge family. I love their deep, multifarious, matter-of-fact diversity. I love that these characters exist within and sometimes rub up against a world that, like the one we know, is deeply antagonistic to them. I love that OFMD handles racism with the same gently brutal realism as it does anti-queerness. Those two elements of the show break me so hard, in such a good way. I also love the hard switch Rhys gives Stede between Bumbling Bumbler and Daddy in Charge, and I love how he adapts it as the situation calls for. (It's literally the biggest thing that convinced me to keep watching despite my misgivings. It takes 20 minutes into S1E1 to first see it, and then, damn.) I love Ed's wet cat energy. I love Stede's hair. I love Ed's hair. I love the Revenge. I love the shifting flashbacks and dream/story sequences. I love Izzy as an antagonist, and the painfully realistic toxic relationship between him and Ed that fuels the antagonism. And I love how Izzy constantly shoots himself in the foot. I love all the supporting male characters of color: Frenchie and Olu and Fang and Roach and Ivan, and how most of them are big guys and are so sexy and I just....yeah.

5. Favorite main character

Ed. I am Ed coded to the absolute max. And he's sexy AF, in all his guises.

6. Favorite supporting character(s)

I am both glad and not to see that "(s)." Could I choose just one? No. Since I am allowed to choose multiple, is it going to look like I'm naming the whole cast? Yep!

Followed closely by Olu, Mary, Lucius, and Fang.

Honorable mentions: Roach, Nana, the Swede, Buttons, Evelyn, and Alma.

I also love the native community on shipwreck island, Hornberry, and Mister "We Could Have Made Magic." (Jim is too past-me coded for me to love, and Jackie doesn't rate for me yet; I suspect both will change with season 2.)

11. Hina Logic from Luck & Logic. - based on a game, very gay, very cute, and very funny lmao. perfect to watch all at once and end up with a mushy feeling inside

12. Akanesasu Shoujo. - a very eneterteining one with an odd premise oO travelling through other dimensions, love and friendship. and it ends actually GAY lol when first watching i wasnt expecting it ngl,but it was a lovely surprise xD

13. Otherside Picnic. - horror, and when i say horror i mean it lmao. prepare for some disturbing shit. also interdimensional travel and Gay :) what else can you ask for?

14. The Executioner and her way of life. - great story, very nice characters, very gay, very entertaining isekai with some twists oO and this just season one.

15. Lycoris Recoil. - a lot of you could argue on how this one is not GAY but i could spend two days defending its gayness and no one will convince me otherwise. there's a reason why Chisato and Takina have become one of the favorite couples of the last years as long as they appeared and with only one season. this one is full of comedy, girl assasins, inmaculate action, beautiful animation and ITS GAY! lmao istg

16. Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch from Mercury. - when ppl say its Utena in space is bc thats exactly what it is lol. this past season has brought a lot of good entries but this one is the jewel of the crown OO jesuschrist. Gundam is a franchise with more than 30 years of history and for the first time a female protagonist and also the whole argument revolving a gay love story. as a longtime Gundam fan myself saying that i was excited af is an understatement. on top of that the story is SO FUCKING GOOD! the animation, its dark undertones, THE GAY, like holy fuck. and this is only season 1 of what is gonna be IMO the best anime of the season and all the seasons to come.

17. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady. - another gay isekai bc thats like the new normal lmao. this one just started airing but its so good lmao purely gay and funny af. go watch it right now! i have read the manga and the novels and you won't be disappointed. lol very worth it!

now speaking of manga, there has been a wave of gay manga about to be animated SOON which has been the highlight of my year LMAO i've read all of these and I CANT FUCKING WAIT im so excited! now watch out for :

18. Im in love with the Villainess. - another gay isekai cause dreams do come true sometimes!. girl dies and its reincarnated on her favorite dating game but she doesn't want any of the male love interest, her gay ass wants the villainess lmao. idk how far the anime is going with the story but i've read the novels and it ends SO GOOD! (airing summer 2023)

19. Whisper me a Love Song. - music gay manga that also received the green light for animation. very cute, highschool piece of life drama and gay as it can be <3 (airing sometime this year)

20. Yuri is My Job! .- comedy gay manga to be animated this year as well ^^ cute girls, nice storytelling, comedy and of course gay drama! (airing april 2023)

This is gonna be long, so buckle up, pardner. These are just my headcanons so don’t take anything too seriously. 

Florida/Louisiana:

How did they first meet?

TL; DR: They were childhood besties

I'm a firm believer in "the states used to be kids," so long story short, they met as kids. Not to get too much into the history behind it (because I’m definitely rusty on this region), but the gist of it is that Florida was kind of ignored and saddled with a bad reputation surprise, surprise and Louisiana was always kind to him despite that-- and despite the fact that they spoke different languages. They became closer in 1762 when Louisiana became part of the Spanish Empire. Florida taught him Spanish and Louisiana taught Florida to speak French. (Despite being super ditzy, FL knows a bunch of languages and learns them quickly; I stand by this propaganda.) But they eventually just ended up kind of making up their own secret language, taking elements of both and weirding out any adults who happened to hear them-- especially Spain, who at this point has to be regretting the whole “global empire” thing.

If you had told either one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think?

I think they both would have laughed and said something like, “well he’s my best friend, but that’s not the same thing…is it?” 

Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?

It absolutely had something to do with music. Louie lives for music, and of course he would want to share that with his “best friend.” In the super early days of jazz culture, he would invite Florida to different clubs where played. And at some point, while watching Louie in his element, Florida realized that he had more than “friendship feelings.” He suppressed these feelings for a long time, being afraid that they were unrequited and also it was like 1920 and being gay was not exactly socially acceptable. Until one night, when Louie asked him to go to dinner, then dancing. Florida got adorably flustered and nervous, despite knowing Louie pretty much his whole life, and basically blubbered like a nervous wreck through dinner. But when it came time to dance, the nervousness melted away as Louie patiently walked him through the steps. By the end of the night, they were dancing together like pros and getting all hot and bothered.

Who gets jealous easier?

This is a tough call. They both kind of strike me as the kind who will be flirty with anyone—whether intentionally or unintentionally. And they’re both okay with that. But I wanna say Louie is slightly more jealous? Florida gets a lot of attention, and with his personality, it’s easy to see how he could get a little too close to someone else and end up making Louie uncomfortable.

Who is more protective?

Louie 100%. I’ll never get over that Table News video where Louie is helping Florida hurricane prep. Florida has been through this a million times; he knows what to do, but god forbid Louie is going to let him get hurt on his watch. He knows a thing or two about hurricanes and he’s not going to lose Florida that way, damnit.

Do they prefer verbal or physical affection?

They’re both pretty heavy on physical affection. They both love cuddles, and have mastered non-verbal communication (it goes back to when they were kids and spoke different languages; they learned to rely on unspoken cues).

Do they have any pets?

A bunch of gators of course. They dress them in seasonal sweaters and buy them posh AF dog beds to sleep in. 

Who kills the bugs in the house?

Louie, because Florida is too busy trying to make friends with them. (The more dangerous they look, the better) Sometimes Louie relents and lets a spider stay in the corner because Florida has named it and made up a whole backstory for it and its whole family. He thinks it’s adorable.

So, Mickey's (the brunette) dad is homophobic af so one day he walked in on the boys doing it and he called this one hooker to "make him a man" (I know, I've been traumatized ever since). Long story short, she got pregnant, he was forced to marry her, and live a lie for almost a year. tbh, i'm not really all that invested in the love lives of the younger kids lmao (except im rooting for lumax bc i love them).

to preface my answer, i think both are cute in their own ways and both have their goods and bads, and i'm not here to promote one over the other or trash one over the other.

eleven. which season had the best ending?

it has been a hot minute since i've watched the endings (and by hot minute i mean a couple of months bc i did my big rewatch before s4 lol). but like i think i gotta go with the s1 ending. the first season is just Classic yknow? it starts off strong and it sets up the rest well.

(honorable mention to s3 ending tho bc the battle of star court IS fun to watch)

xmen 97 had no business being that good. it took awhile to adjust to visually. some things felt wrong for a continuation of a children’s cartoon. but the most important thing is it took the subject matter seriously. it was more than nostalgic. it felt like its own project while being a continuation of a classic.

things i liked (very spoiler tastic)

Magneto outfit change even if the M was goofy, showing skin (armpits, shoulders) was very slutty

Morph and Logan. Morph, Gambit and Logan coming out of the danger room, sweaty with high implications of them having a threesome is not in my dirty mind. Also Logan being down and in a tree and Morph bringing him beer and snacks and Logan turns his head away all stubborn, causing Morph to well morph into Sabertooth instigating Logan to wrestle with him and stab the beer with his claws. Gay af. also Morph telling an unconscious Logan he loved him even if it was with Jean’s voice.

Magneto was right is something that is said constantly. I also love seeing Magneto exercising patience in Charles’ absence and ultimately snapping at the right amount of pressure.

Gambit going out with a bang. Im still fucking pissed about this. This is a children’s cartoon. Granted spiderman ended with peter summoning ben from another universe to get Carnage spider man to “destroy himself” which is so dark, I can’t believe that happened. Still, it was the most bad ass metal death ever.

The brief cameo of Peter and MJ. Out of all the cameos, this was the one that hit me. The rest annoyed me. Like it wasn’t the scene of spider-man they showed. It was seeing my Peter again that got me. i don’t think i would have seen him though if I hadn’t saw MJ as her red hair and yellow sweater made her stick out much easier.

The twin towers. Yes I know it’s 97 but it’s hard to see the twin towers and not laugh. Ive seen too many 9/11 jokes, maybe they should have left those out. The editing video one comes to mind first.

Seeing that hot lady with the eye patch again.

Gambit’s slutty crop top. Gambit blowing shit up in a pink explosion. fuck it, Gambit in general. I miss this man.

I think that’s it. I didn’t really care much for the ending. it really is cashing in on nostalgia which is disappointing. But having a whole season say Magneto is right and go out of the way to prove it, especially when he’s trying to be patient like omg. Let this man kill. He literally is like “do not make me let you down” he’s trying for peace and humanity decides to fucking ruin it.

Like the original wanted to put emphasis on Charles’ vision while showing how faulty it was. This one was like Charles’ vision is completely out of the fucking question, nice dream but nah. The Genosha genocide was so hard to watch especially with what’s going on in the world but watching Magneto be all like “They shall be avenged!” and finally losing his shit. Oh i love you. I love you for giving Charles’ dream a chance but you were right, you were fucking right. And now everyone is fucking dead. Just aaaah.

There was no reason for them to go this hard. But it wouldnt be xmen if they didn’t. shame it’s still a part of modern marvel. I feel like almost ashamed for liking it and wanting to talk about it but “Magneto is right” is the message I needed to fucking hear in my children’s cartoon. Now go have gay sex!

how would you rank the episodes of the newsreader so far?

Okay I'm biased towards season 2 because I'm a Gerrygirl, obvs, but here we goooooo

1. S2E6 "Fireworks" - every acting award ever to Rory Fleck Byrne for his performance in this episode dear lord he was so good this ep. And THAT Gerrycarla moment!!!! Also Dennis and Lindsay's confrontation is one of the best scenes of the whole season, I will defend Dennis to the death!

2. S2E5 "A Model Daughter" - THE club scene!!! The awkward Christmas lunch with Rob's brother and sister in law! Helen spiralling! Ouggggh!!!

3/4. Can't decide between S2E3 "Greed and Fear" and S2E4 "The Hungry Truth". We learn so much Gerry lore in the former, and we see Dale and Gerry getting close which makes ep 6 so much harder, but ep 4 is such an amazing hard hitter that really delves into Australia's colonial narrative and the way we've treated our first nations people and though it's not my number one favourite its the one where I go "this is THE episode to watch if you only watch episode of the series".

5. S1E4 "A Step Closer To The Madness". THE Tim/Dale episode. Sam Reid and Chai Hansen were putting their whole pussies into that episode, and it features one of the best gay kisses by two straight actors that I have ever seen.

6. S1E5 "No More Lies". The episode where I realised the writers were dedicated to this show being a proper queer drama, that they weren't actually holding back from talking about 80s homophobia and the AIDS crisis and what that entailed.

7. S2E1 "Decision 87". The episode where we met Gerry!!!! By far the funniest episode of the series. The lines "god knows I'm partial to a quick scrute" and "the ABC is like a plate of veggies" are permanently etched in my brain.

8. S1E2 "Once In A Lifetime". THE Helendale episode, they were so cute in that episode! Also the little sprinkles of Timdale at the same time! Also Anna Torv's acting was brilliant in that extended panic attack scene!

9. S2E2 "People Like You And Me". The Rob episode of all time. Rob is far from my fave, but I really felt for him here, and it really was a good exploration of PTSD.

10. S1E6 "Meltdown". Dale finally starting to come to terms with his bisexuality, and that beautiful scene between him and Helen where they talk everything out! If only things could've stayed that way 😭

11. S1E3 "A White Marquis Matinee Jacket". Helen looked hot AF in Darwin, and Helendale was cute, and Tim was horny but it wasn't my favourite.

12. S1E1 "Three, Two, One". It's good at establishing all the characters and has some very cute Helendale moments, but it's pretty forgettable to me, personally.
