Thomas Blake has been having a day, well no, he’s been having a life actually, but he’s been good at not letting the self-loathing win these days and he’s not giving up on that progress today.

It’s the anniversary of his pride’s murder and Lawton’s face is hard to look at. 

Venice is a nice place to get lost in though, and he is desperately in need of some alone time lest he starts thinking too hard and ends up stabbing Lawton.

He walks up a bridge and leans against the railing, staring down into the water below, where the moon’s reflection shines.

"You got a lot on your mind?" a voice sounds from somewhere behind him.

He swivels but is met with nothing more than the canal.

"Up here," the voice sounds again and as Blake looks up, he finds himself looking at a white-haired flying little girl.

He blinks for a moment but the girl is still there.

"Yes?" The girl asks innocently. He narrows his eyes at the too-wide green eyes.

Ok, if she wants to play it like that. 

Blake consciously relaxes himself before shrugging. "Just memories."

"Oh yeah," the girl nods sagely. "Those are wild. Only been having them for a year, but boy are they a trip."

The man doesn’t offer any reaction behind a sympathetic hum to the weird info drop. If he’s playing the game and he’s damn well sure going to win it. "What about you, what’s kept you awake?"

The girl pulls a face. "Couldn’t find a bed I liked."

"Too hard or too soft, goldilocks?" His lips are pulling into a smile despite himself.

"Too haunted," the girl answers, deadpan. "This city is crowded, my dude."

Blake raises an eyebrow. "Is that so?"

The girl nods. "There’s gotta be something in the water, I’m telling you."

He looks down into the dark waters, as he remembers every warning he’s been given about taking a dip in the canals, and he’s tempted to agree.

"You got money?" The girl asks non-sequitur.

"Some," he says, wanting to see where this is going.

"I know a gelato place not too far that should still be open," the girl says. "I’ll show you if you get me a nocciola cone."

Blake looks up into the kid’s glowing eyes and smiles.

"Deal."

So having established that Shen "I can fix him" Qiao caught feelings first (not that he realizes lmao), but... this does still beg a question for me: when DID Yan Wushi fall, too? Because this guy flirts and teases and is so unserious, sure. But... when does it... kinda sorta start becoming real?

Now, I AM a believer that the Sang Jingxing deal was as much a sort of reactionary overcorrection as it was a logical escalation- like it makes sense to me as an escalation, but as YWS himself says, he wouldn't have taken the step if SQ hadn't declared him a "friend." And I do think YWS showed signs of softening before it, too- like, digging that grave for the unnamed boy? Without even an overexaggerated tease at SQ about it? YWS at the beginning of the story would Not have done that quietly and dare I say solemnly, he would have like... made some comment or tease, I think.

I think whatever moment comes for YWS though happens late, cuz iirc he was gonna leave SQ et al behind? But Xie Ling was the one who went back...

Just got home after ~20hrs of travel. Some advice for y'all who are looking for partners: travel with them before you get married (or sign a lease or mix your finances in some way). There's a reason this advice is given often. It will really give an insight to the other person, and vice versa.
