Wanted to try my hand at designing some slightly older duck kiddos!!! Headcanons and insane ramblings under the cut:

I designed these to be around 14-15, so early high school age (y'know in a hypothetical scenario where they actually end up going to high school). I imagine they still adventure with Scrooge and the fam, just moreso on the weekends (cut to Huey on the floor of the Sunchaser frantically trying to finish his biology homework while they're being shot at by sky pirates). Donald and Della are also both a part of the school PTA. Nobody else in the PTA is happy about this. Now for individual headcanons:

Huey:

Straight A student that's kinda neurotic about his grades, will freak out if any of them drop to a B.

I like to think of his hat as his comfort item so he still has the same one and if it was up to me he would also wear it to adulthood. even if a grown ass man in a lil baseball cap looks silly.

He's sooo mad about Dewey being taller than him lol.

Dewey:

Solid B student with the occasional C.

Couldn't join the drama club and the basketball team at the same time so he chose the drama club (the actual reason is that he tried out for the basketball team and didn't make it but he won't admit that). He still likes to carry around a basketball and practice on the court by himself.

Grows cheek fluff like the others he just cuts his off out of insecurity.

He's the tallest.

Louie:

Has pretty shitty grades, not because he's not smart, but because he doesn't really try (I mean, kid already has it made, why bother?).

Still wears the same green hoodie every day like he did as a kid but this time it's a little bit bigger and baggier. Does he wear the same clothes underneath too???? We will never know.

He's the shortest.

Webby:

Also a straight A student like Huey but seemingly puts in way less effort than him (which bothers Huey greatly).

Has to carry all her supplies in her arms because she's not allowed to bring a bag to school anymore (she kept trying to bring weapons in. Not because she planned on using them, but because you can never be too prepared.)

In at least 5 different clubs, probably started like 3 of them.

Like you have to have some fucking balls to really rip the rug out from someone like that. And that someone was so ready to get back into that suit and rebuild Superman and the universe he would be in… only to just let him down so fucking hard.

And not just Henry.. we, the fans! The ones who wanted him back in the first place, and the ones who were excited or at least somewhat hopeful about this whole rebuilding of the DCU! You go and do us AND him dirty like that? Fuck you, man. Honestly, go fuck a cactus.

Something compelling to me abt kipperlily who like. Against all airs and appearances. Does care abt her friends. So much, actually. But what she cares about and how she cares is so. Different. She wants them safe and close and protected and Lucy threatened that and she didn’t mean- they didn’t mean to- it got away from them. And now it can’t be undone (Lucy was their healer) but kipperlily can fix it. She can clean it up and protect the others. She finds a new, pliable kind of cleric and finds the spaces between the unbending rules so she can slot him into the space they have in their group and she mints a new name and a new face and goes big and brassy and runs for student body president and. Yeah. Maybe ivy doesn’t really talk to her anymore and maybe Mary Ann is even more inside her shell than she was at the beginning of freshman year and Oisin does that thing where he takes off his glasses and stares into the middle distance for an hour at a time but- but it’s nothing kipperlily can’t handle. She can fix it. She can make sure no one knows what happened and she can make sure Lucy stays forgotten and missing and uncertain and she can keep their group on the rails professionally and academically and even though they all still have to go back to those woods. And kill those rats. And remember the tree Lucy is hidden under- it’s fine. She’s fine. Kipperlily has got it under control.

I do just want to say for anyone unfamiliar with the american education system, this is a pretty accurate portrayal of junior year. you would think college and scholarship and adult life concerns would be more senior year stuff, but, at least in my experience, junior year is like the worst year of your academic life. you're trying to balance applying for schools and keeping your grades up and getting scholarships and standardized tests and extracurriculars. then, in senior year, you usually know where you're going to go after you graduate and only really have a couple necessary classes. everything is a lot chiller, you basically just have to show up enough to get credit and you'll be fine. all this to say, from the academic standpoint, it's a fairly realistic depiction of junior year.

i dont mean this to spark a night vs crow debate but doesnt the ultimate guide state that nightcloud's "bitterness toward Crowfeather tainted Breezepelt with its poison" (directly quoting this). i agree that we shouldnt take crow's word on this bc hes a biased source, but the ultimate guide doesnt have a character pov. what are your thoughts on this? idk if its a retcon since its been forever since ive read the mainline. i like the idea that the two fucked up in their own ways.

Generally inaccurate and sometimes containing information that outright contradicts canon, Field Guides should considered very low in a canon hierarchy.

The same field guide completely fails to mention that Crowfeather wasn't only neglectful to Breezepelt, but actively emotionally abusive to him, and doesn't even MENTION that he suddenly blamed everything on Nightcloud.

So I DO feel justified in saying that the field guides probably did contribute in some way to how absolutely obtuse WC fans can be towards the text.

It just Makes. Shit. Up. These authors have had SHAMEFUL levels of misogynistic bias for YEARS and it's never more apparent than when they're writing bullshit summaries like "Ashfur was soo nice and sweet and only loved too much :(" and "Clear Sky was simply being fierce when he was shoving his son's face in a sloppy wound" and then turning around and saying "actually it was the nearest woman's fault"

I pull from earlier field guides as inspiration, but exclusively treat the "summary" ones as insight to what is bouncing around in the brightly colored Moonjump Castle that is the author's minds.

Like the idea that they're "both fucked up" or not, it doesn't change the fact that what the Erins put on the page was an abusive father who tries to deflect blame to his WIFE for making a bratty son, and then took the abuser's side in supporting material for years.
