...a...lot. Most recently? MDZS/SVSSS, Trigun (er, sorry for the weird stuff), and 13 Sentinels (PLAY 13 SENTINELS). Long term oldies but goodies? Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Overwatch, Supergiant games, Evangelion

Recovery (SVSS, Qijiu --woah, that one pulled ahead in the last few months) Husband x Husband (Hunter x Hunter -- I did this as a yuletide treat to make up for defaulting one year and it's the gift that keeps giving) Minor Delays (SVSS, Qijiu -- wait really?) The Way Back Home (SVSS, Qijiu -- ....Qijiu nation represent. This one doesn't surprise me though, Chira did an amazing comic for it) Hold the Baby (MDZS -- okay this one was just where I was dumping the old twitter threads of a VERY specific Xiyao fix-it AU but you know what, thanks everyone)

5. do you respond to comments?

I try to. If I don't succeed it's often because life kicked my ass.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably On Your Six (Reaper & Soldier 76, Overwatch)

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This is hard mostly because all of my fic tends to be some kind of fix-it in some way to give someone an obscenely happy ending. If you had to have me narrow it down based on what my most blatant fix-it to some miserable canon character ending was? I'd go with either Happiness Exists (As Long As You Believe in the Possibility) (Qijiu again!), and the Recovery-verse as a whole, or maybe Abstraction White Rose (Revolutionary Girl Utena), because by god I needed Utena and Anthy to kiss and I MADE THEM DO THAT, A LOT.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Xiyao troll hit me once or twice and I got a few cranky dudebros who got mad at me for my Eva fic on a message board once, but nothing all that bad if I'm honest.

9. do you write smut?

...well, I've tried but the plot gets in the way.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?

The first that come to mind are the MDZS/TGCF crossovers, but those are the same authors so I don't know that that counts. I DID write a very silly How The Grinch Stole Christmas/Nightmare Before Christmas short once upon an internet. It has since been lost to the great yawning of time and collapse of several social media platforms.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

Someone once scraped the awful Naruto fic I wrote when I was like 15 and changed the names to make it a Samurai Champloo fic which, um. Why? But that was pretty damn funny in hindsight.

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! In Russian, Chinese, and French. And I love every time it happens.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

My dayjob these days is cowriting with people. But on the fanfic side -- well, in short, yes. With the usual suspect (that would be Chira) and with my wife, who has once or twice dictated an entire story outline to me which I write in a day.

14. what's your all time favorite ship? Internet, I am old and you cannot expect me to pick one. Utena/Anthy maybe?

15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I still need to do the last story for the A Troublesome Charge series which I SWEAR will happen it's just I had a literal baby.

16. what are your writing strengths?

Character voice. I love character voice and I am told I am good at it.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Smut.

18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

To be honest if I don't know it I don't try. But I like bilingual writing when it's done well (see also: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once) -- but when it comes to fangirl Japanese or Chinese, I tend to leave that to the experts.

19. first fandom you wrote for?

mumblesBeastWars and thank god that was on a platform that crashed and burned. The Beast Wars fic I wrote for Yuletide was way better.

20. favorite fic you have written?

On Your Six, despite how I feel about Overwatch nowadays, I feel was probably one of the punchiest stories I've ever written. I would have absolutely used this story to audition to write for Blizzard's tie-in novellas if Blizzard hadn't...well, read the news on what happened at Blizzard.

The other one I'd probably say is Ghost Roads in my Troublesome Charge series (MDZS). I just feel like I nailed all the multiple plotlines and characters involved in that one and I'm super proud of it. I'm not tagging anyone because I have anxiety about this kind of thing, but please feel free to do this meme yourself if it crosses your dash!

A wild 2023 recap post appears!

Stuff I made this year:

Fiction: Nope. Work continues to consume me.  I DID write like 33k that maybe will be publicly accessible in the future, but who can say.

Playlists: I think the only two I remembered to share were Oleander (a playlist for my Wickedness character) and the vast and the void (what it says on the tin).

RPGs: Also a nope.

Knitting: Made a shawl!  And a hat, technically, that I forgot to take pictures of.

Other stuff: Taught 5 classes, 4 of which were new preps!  Did fieldwork in Japan for the first time since 2019! Gave an hour-long talk in Japanese!  Presented on two conference panels!  Finished two academic book reviews! Survived somehow!  The period between August and December sort of doesn’t exist in my memory?  I was doing things but almost all of those things were work, so. The isolation has been wearing on me, but with the combination of A. not having any time to do anything other than work and B. for Various Reasons questioning whether I want to stay at this job, it's been really hard to build local community. I'm going to try to work on that next year, but also I'm going to have two new preps again in the fall and one of my spring classes is already overenrolled, so who knows how effective that'll be.

Media I enjoyed this year:

Books: I read 46 books this year apparently!  Top picks in no particular order: The Singing Hills Cycle (embarrassingly my jam), The Southern Reach Trilogy (shocking that it took me this long to read this), My Own Devices (even MORE shocking that it took me this long to read this), Imperial Radch (so AGGRESSIVELY my jam), She Who Became the Sun (this was a hilarious accompaniment to one of my fall classes), Camp Damascus (read this on a plane back from Japan which was An Experience), The Tale That Twines (loved the first book; the second book is even better), System Collapse (yeah, no one is surprised that I loved this).

TTRPG: Wickedness!  This was the only new TTRPG I played this year, but it was really good.

Video games: Mask of the Rose and Saltsea Chronicles, both of which I want to/should poke at more. Special nod to 13 Sentinels which we enjoyed 90% of a lot.

Manga/comics: I think the only thing I read was The JOJOLands?

Fanfic: I didn’t actually wind up reading that much fanfic this year again, in part because I was reading so many books.  A few picks, in no particular order: The Gardener (CR C2), Keys to the Castle (CR C2), Whistle Song (CR C2), pieces of (you) me (CR C2), Descriptions of a River Flowing (CR C2), Slip the Blindfold (CR C2), Heart to Heart (JJBA: JJL--PLEASE read this if you care about JJL at all), riverside beatitudes (JJBA: SDC), Fully formed, ready to run (ExU: Calamity).  Honorable mention to Asking for More (Stranger of Paradise), which is a WIP but made me laugh so hard I hit myself in the face with my phone.

Films: I actually watched like eight movies this year!  All but two of the new ones on a plane, to be fair, but.  Top picks: Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse and Shoplifters (『万引き家族』).  Honorary mention to Suzume.

TV: Finally finished Stone Ocean!  It was good!  Rowan and I are also like halfway through catching up on TGCF and it is also very good.

Podcasts:  Continued to listen to way too many of these.  Top picks: The Silt Verses, Trice Forgotten, Within the Wires (hey can we talk about the newest season? truly wild), and Re: Dracula.  Honorable mentions to The Evaporated: Gone with the Gods, 『なんかIWAKAN！』 (WHICH IS TRAGICALLY ENDING???? where am I supposed to get my chaotic Japanese gender and sexuality discussion now :(((((), Cry Havoc! Ask Questions Later, Critical Role, and Worlds Beyond Number.

Music: Dessa's Bury the Lede was excellent, of course.  I also apparently listened to Maisie Peters' The Good Witch a lot (it was in my grading rotation in October). And then this past month there's been a lot of Hozier's Unreal Unearth. But a lot of my listening this year was either albums on the bus (rotating mainly between Quiet Company’s We Are All Where We Belong, Bury the Lede, yorushika’s entire discography that I can purchase, Wednesday Campanella, and various soundtracks) or putting something on loop and falling into a fugue state.  Apparently my top song of the year on Spotify was “Square One,” which I think I put on looping while grading in the spring.  My Spotify top songs list was even more inexplicable than usual this year.

I’ve been reading through your blog while reading through Mtmte. In the ttb au, does hotrod take the moniker of rodimus while in the functionalist universe? Is that marked by any significant character design difference, or is everyone too busy trying to get home/survive?

He does not in TTB!

Mainly because a lot of MTMTE stuff doesn’t really happen in the narrative, and HotRod doesn’t wield the Matrix at any point.

So TTB!HotRod is actually pretty unbothered by the whole thing + TTB’s Matrix doesn’t have the storied legacy of the original (Prime never even wanted it, he woke up from a near-death experience essentially with it shoved into his chest to save him, it actually ends up being something akin to a technological philosopher’s stone with the souls of former Primes who were basically Quintesson war heroes unwillingly distilled into by Liege Maximo) for him to even desire it.

ok ok i think a lot of it would depend on like. the group dynamics/how the group was formed/what everyone else is like. but, if i had to just take the idea and run with it, what i think would be important for irelia in terms of story/characterization would be:

i think her being put on a pedestal as a hero and not handling the pressure well but still forcing herself to meet people's expectations and standards and trying to shoulder everything alone could easily be translated to a scenario where that was more fame-related. especially if we're talking idols there is a lot of pressure, and many of them begin training to be idols when they're still very young. i think it could be the case for her in this verse (first as a dancer, when she was very little, then training to be an idol, when she was a bit older), and that she'd still be very harsh on herself trying to not let anyone down, inevitably letting people down because it's impossible some people won't be disappointed, and still feeling responsible for it.

but yeah going from that i think, like with ahri and kda, irelia in 1shot would've been an idol in solo career before the group was formed.

i also think she still can come across as cold/haughty at first, like in base verse, even though she'd be very warm and attentive towards fans and stuff. around the group itself she'd likely be a lot more open and warm (maybe not at first, or not toward all of them, but given time and working together probably)

on that note though i really don't know how well she'd get along with someone like vayne. like. they are in the sentinel event working together but they? don't even really interact and honestly i don't think vayne's usual attitude goes well with irelia's aksjfnsjknf i think they'd either be super efficient together or clash and that might just always continue to happen regardless of how long they've been working together

in part that's also because i think she'd still be very prone to take the lead. for all the pressure she puts on herself and how much she doesn't want it, in every verse irelia just continues to take the lead nonetheless lmao and i think in this verse she'd be far less reluctant to do it. and i don't think it'd be purposeful, or that she'd mean to take the center or anything of the sort, just that she can be a bit commanding and take charge without that being a conscious decision and more because she gets carried away. but i can see it not going well sometimes (and vayne seems to me the kind of person who wouldn't take very well to that?)

i can see her being fine with talon actually. again, it depends on how he'd be in that scenario? but even if he's still broody and edgy and not very friendly i can see irelia being ok with him. maybe not at first, but eventually? not sure. she doesn't really have a reason to hate all noxians so she'd be a lot less aggressive regardless.

same thing for phel in that depends on how he'd be. i honestly don't know much about his personality? but i feel they'd get along. and that alune is always around even if she's not part of the group, and that irelia would like her too

i might be biased because of your yone also but i always think irelia would love him kajdfkan i said that to you before but it's the big brother vibes. if ocean song was also in the same universe, i imagine the group would've been formed fairly recently/after they're all already adults, and that it was after yone first started to share his work as a lyricist (and maybe now is singing his own songs?) which i think it's nice and that she'd be supportive of. they could even have met before 1shot was formed, considering yone's involvement with music and her own. either way, i think irelia would love to be around him and they could talk about music and lyrics and dance routines and choreographies and that even when it isn't work related she'd enjoy his company. just chilling in silence is good too. and i also think yone seems like one of the few sensible people she'd easily listen to? so there's that. (actually..... with vayne, irelia, kayn and talon in the same group i feel yone might. have to be the voice of reason there sometimes kjdfnkjsandf)

and then. there's kayn. they of course end up dating. kayn might be a little too supportive of her being mean, but i also think the idea of him being someone with whom she doesn't feel pressured to be perfect (which is very important for how her feelings for him developed, i think) would still be present. i like to think no one expected they would get along well because they have significantly different personalities but they surprisingly work well together from the start.

i think she always needs to go through the traumatizing event of having her entire family murdered so she can't have nice things here either. idk how (maybe i could take a page from what i already have in my modern verse for it but idk). either way. they're all dead. or maybe one of her brothers is alive so at least she had. someone looking after her...... i think i like that idea better so either kai or zelos survive to raise her c':

she'd be ridiculously attached to whichever brother survived, but i think it's fair to say her brother would also be very protective of her because they did lose all of their family, so.

and without getting into specifics it's also always fundamental irelia made swain lose his arm somehow (she could have cut if off depending on how/when it happened, or just damaged it enough he lost it anyway). in every universe. every single one of them. this one included. she has to do it it's mandatory it's a canon event askdfnksajdfn

but yeah either way i think she keeps the Tragic (and Violent) Backstory, that's probably not widely known. i could say her family is fine, like, kai'sa is w kassadin and everything in kda lore but. i don't want to, i think she needs to be a little tragic and violent actually. at least a little bit. as a treat.

hmmmm like i said at the beginning she started dancing when she was very little (very very little. like. 5 years old or something). but with her solo career and training i think she can do everything well, including singing and acting.

strict training and management also mean there's a lot she didn't have the chance to experience as a teen. i think the group would also give her a bit more freedom that she'd greatly enjoy.

On Earth-1827, World War 2 went on like normal. Steve Rogers didnt get to fight on the frontlines, but was one of the greatest military minds the United States has ever seen. And Bucky Barnes was his right hand man.

Fast forward to the 1964, the Cold War, tensions are high between the US & the Soviet Union. Project Gladiator is commenced in a joint operation between the US & Germany(they were right in the middle of the 2 superpowers at the time), to have super humans in place so nukes would be a very last resort.

On the US' side, Steve, Bucky & others chose "The Tommygun" Thomas Acres. Same morals as Steve, but with Bucky's viciousness. He stood out because in a mission during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, he stopped things from getting heated between his platoon & a Russian one. Unfortunately, his former superior had him thrown in the hole for that, despite the lives saved.

On Germany's side, Jaegar Asher Erlösung, was chosen. The middle name stands out because he's part Jewish. His father was German, his mother was Jewish. His father served during late WW2, but was one that was a part of Operation Valkyrie, to kill a certain you-know-who, because prior events during the war, he was never with that. In fact, he helped his wife & a few other Jews flee Germany. That real operation unfortunately failed, Jaegar's father was executed.

After WW2, no one's trusting Germany. Jaegar knows the atrocities will never go away, but intends to help his country get a better image, a long road of redemption. His morals are like Steve's as well, difference is he wont kill unless its absolutely necessary, because he doesn't want anyone to think he's just as bad as the German soldiers & higher-ups in WW2 that committed war crimes.

Project Gladiator was a success, The Summer Marine & Lieutenant Germany were born. For 3 years, the two succeeded mission after mission. With the first one being a mission that was off the books, getting all US troops out of Vietnam. Notes on the serum were intentionally destroyed, so Russia or anyone else couldnt replicate it exactly(didn't stop Russia from trying, they messed with gamma radiation later on).

The two got along very well, mainly because the stuff they had to put up with were similar. Jaegar had to earn trust from EVERYONE & keep that positive image for himself & all of Germany. Thomas, although he was handpicked by Steve & Bucky, he was a black soldier in the 60s. So, alot of white soldiers were jealous of him. He had to keep a positive image & not beat the absolute shit outta racist soldiers, for himself & all black people.

The two got the Adamantium shields(yes, we're switching Vibranium & Adamantium), from research lab of Z.M.E.I in Africa, that they stormed alongside soldiers they resuced in Vietnam. Z.M.E.I stole that from Dorado. And the two did bump into the 5th White Puma, D'Aapo, and let the two keep the shields because they earned his respect.

In 1967, the two were deployed to stop Z.M.E.I from succeeding at their plan of world domination. They had different goals compared to the Soviets & didnt give af about what they were doing. They had one of the Infinity Stones & tried using it as a power source for mechs, that were basically man-driven Sentinels. Thomas & Jaegar stopped most of the mechs from launching. One remained & it had to be stopped from landing in the US. They destroyed it while it was over the North Pole, but Thomas seemingly sacrificed himself. All that was left of him was a severed left arm.

But what really happened was the explosion sent Thomas to 2008. He & his shield were found in a frozen state. The first person he saw, was his son, who is an agent for the organization that found him, S.P.E.A.R., lead by Don Sorrow.

The Tungsten Gentleman Richard Lanister, hooked Thomas up with a metal arm.

In those 41 years, Jaegar continued as the Lieutenant Germany. Once he started to get old, it was time for the mantle to be passed on. He had a son too, difference being it was after becoming a supersoldier. The powers were genetic, his son wanted to follow in his footsteps, so he was trained for years, and by 2008, was the 2nd Lieutenant Germany.

The US tried making another super soldier in those 41 years, they had the remaining arm to research, and Thomas' son was ready to volunteer for the project. Richard's father, Edward Lanister, was the lead mind behind it. Was so close to replicating it exactly. But Z.M.E.I also continued after the Cold War, and had him assasinated by one thats curently only known by the codename, The Jade Mongolian. The project was locked away.

Personality

Choi Ji Won is a Complex Figure. He is a product of North Korea's elite, and is a man of contradictions. He gives off an appearance of confidence and authority on the surface, which is a reflection of his background and his leadership position in Squad E.T. 12. He is a natural charmer, able to win over even the most skeptics with his attractive looks and refined manner.

Beneath this polished façade, though, is a man whose allegiance is divided between his developing misgivings about the organization he works for and his commitment to his own life. In his interactions with those he cares about, his kindness—a characteristic that is typically hidden under a soldier's frigid exterior—is shown. His acute sensitivity and compassion regularly conflict with the violence of his profession.

As the leader of Squad E.T. 12, Choi Ji Won is a demanding and uncompromising figure. He pushes his team to their absolute boundaries in order to secure their success and demands nothing less from them. Yet, he is also a fair and just leader, recognizing the sacrifices his team members make and treating them with respect. Because he can balance his demanding and sympathetic sides, he is a well-liked and successful leader.

Background story 

Choi Ji Won was born into a Rank 1 elite family in North Korea's defense sector. His father, Choi Ji Wook, was one of the founding members of Squad E.T 12, alongside the then-reigning leader 𝙺𝚒𝚖 𝙸𝚕 𝚂𝚞𝚗𝚐, with military assistance from China and the Soviet Union. As China and the Soviet Union competed for influence in North Korea during the Sino-Soviet split in the 1960s, North Korea sought to maintain good relations with both nations. Choi Ji Wook subsequently became the person responsible for the E.T 12 project, along with two other elite Rank 1 individuals, Kim Nam San and Lee Hyun Jae. Over time, Squad E.T 12 evolved into a powerful official North Korean organization, its existence becoming the stuff of myths.

Choi Ji Won is the second successor in the Choi Ji Wook lineage and the 22nd generation, having been groomed from birth by his father to become an agent of Squad E.T 12. 

The genesis of it all

The clandestine operations that Choi Ji Won would subsequently supervise were not at all like the environment in which he was reared. He had his early education in North Korea in esteemed schools, where he distinguished himself academically, especially in the study of political science, history, and military strategy.

His father, recognizing his potential, arranged for Choi Ji Won to study abroad at Oxford University in England. He became well-versed in Western political philosophy there, reading the writings of philosophers such as Machiavelli and Clausewitz. He also became quite interested in the history of international conflicts and international relations.

One Oxford professor that Choi Ji Won met had a significant influence on his outlook on life. He was first introduced to the idea of a society devoid of inequality and violence by this professor, who is a well-known expert in peace studies. Choi Ji Won's preexisting assumptions about the world were challenged by the professor's lessons, and they inspired a desire to change things for the better.

His time at Oxford helped him prepare for his future with Squad E.T. 12, but the professor's influence also kindled an idealistic flame in him. It was also around this time that Choi Ji Won started to have doubts about the organization's practices and the effects of what they were doing on the globe.

He was educated in England from a young age and underwent military training at 22 in "Desert Storm". The location is unknown unless they are directly involved in the E.T 12.  (under construction). After being appointed as his father's successor, he began being sent to or taking on missions in conflict zones in the middle east like Palestine, Yemen, Syria and Iraq sent by the leader of the country himself to overthrow the Western Geopolitical Influence by supporting various factions in the Middle East and to do a military testing ground: The Middle East provides a potential testing ground for North Korean weapons and technology.

The zenith of it all  

Rather than returning to North Korea, Choi Ji Won remained stationed in the Middle East, overseeing Squad E.T. 12's operations in the region. His continued presence allowed him to firsthand witness the devastation caused by the conflicts and to implement his vision of a more humanitarian-focused organization.

In the Middle East, Choi Ji Won and his team worked to establish relationships with local communities, humanitarian organizations, and foreign governments. They provided aid to displaced populations, supported infrastructure development, and advocated for peace and reconciliation. Choi Ji Won's efforts to build bridges between warring factions and promote dialogue were met with mixed results, but they nonetheless demonstrated his commitment to a more positive role for Squad E.T. 12.

Despite his accomplishments, Choi Ji Won encountered major hurdles. The organization's traditional mission and the entrenched interests of certain members within the North Korean government continued to pose obstacles to his reforms. And, the complex geopolitical landscape of the Middle East made it difficult to achieve lasting peace and stability.

Choi Ji Won's determination was put to the test when a horrific betrayal happened during Operation Oasis, a humanitarian expedition organized by Squad E.T. 12. A member of his squad was proven to be working for a rival organization, jeopardizing mission security and killing numerous team members.

Choi Ji Won had no choice but to reassess his plans and objectives after suffering this crushing defeat. He was given a new assignment: breaking into Interpol's operations in Italy. The necessity for a new viewpoint and the urgency of the situation were reflected in this abrupt change in his function.

That did not stop Choi Ji Won in the face of difficulties. Efforts to establish a more equitable and peaceful society, even if little ones, were desirable in his opinion. His unwavering commitment to his objective motivated his comrades and won him the admiration of both opponents and allies.

Choi Ji Won became an inspiration to many people in the Middle East as he carried out his purpose, displaying the force of tenacity and the relentless effort of a better future.

The decadence of it all

Upon his return from the Iraqi outpost, Choi Ji-Won was summoned to Geneva by his superiors. He was assigned a highly sensitive mission: to infiltrate several key Western government agencies, including Interpol in both the United Kingdom and Italy. The goal was to acquire intelligence on the flow of weaponry to certain Middle Eastern countries and determine their willingness to join the NATO alliance. And to sabotage Western plans was designed to ensure that Middle Eastern countries would join NATO. This would allow North Korea and Russia to continue their interventions in the region with less fear of Western retaliation. Thus, with Middle Eastern countries joining NATO, the oil supply would be more secure, which would benefit North Korea through the free trade agreements they had devised. However, intelligence reports indicated a high likelihood of Western counterintelligence attempting to thwart this mission, causing great unease for 𝙺𝚒𝚖 𝙹𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚄𝚗.

To facilitate this covert operation, the Italian government, through a high-level contact, provided Choi Ji-Won with a diplomatic cover. He was granted an identity as an Italian diplomat, allowing him to operate within Western diplomatic circles for five years as "La più giovane promessa della diplomazia orientale". This diplomatic immunity would shield him from scrutiny until Senato della Repubblica conducted its routine background checks on all diplomats.

During his time in European countries, he worked both as a diplomat and as an informant for North Korean intelligence. He was assigned a partner, a man of Russian and Polish descent named Marko, who was also a 𝙺𝙶𝙱 agent. Marko, like Choi Ji-Won, was a protégé of Oleg Vassily Orlov and had received extensive training from a young age. However, Marko was born in Italy and placed with a Russian diplomat's family there. He grew up to become the mastermind behind several remote attacks on Ukraine and was instrumental in facilitating Russian operations to steal sensitive data and weapons servers from Italian-American joint ventures, causing significant harm to Italy.

However, the partnership was short-lived. Marko was abruptly recalled, leaving Choi Ji-Won to carry on alone with the dangerous mission they had started together. North Korea and Russia then dispatched a substitute for Marko as Choi Ji-Won's partner: Kim Nam San's daughter, Kim Min Young, who also helped establish Squad E.T 12. Together, they carried out operations across Europe, with Kim Min Young using the cover of being Choi Ji-Won's Malaysian fiancée. Two years into the project, Kim Min Young was assassinated by an agent of an American military officer who had grown suspicious of Choi Ji-Won and Kim Min Young's activities. It appeared that North Korean and American military leaders were playing a dark game with the goal of eliminating him.

Damien: og boi, has changed a lot since that first poorly written notebook page. Homoromantic asexual, biologically 19 chronologically around 150~ I can't do math in my head. Married to Ray. Constantly stressed, chaotic and enjoys breaking into people's houses with the express purpose of ruining their high scores on assorted video games. Obsessed with space and flying. Says he isn't the dad of the group but he is still the dad of the group. Very mischievous. Honestly there's a lot I could say about him but I might as well make a separate post about him so mOving on

Ray: original concept hasn't changed much but he's gotten a lot of depth. Bisexual and married to Damien. Age is the same as Damien, biologically and chronologically. Will work himself to exhaustion trying to help others, never puts himself first, was in denial about his issues but then Damien and Naomi repeatedly told him to get help and he finally (somewhat reluctantly) did. Loves reading, can tailor/make clothes incredibly well. Likes living in big cities.

Hazel: I'm honestly still working on her character but I still love her. The only straight character of the main group. Age biologically is 20-21, chronologically idk she was born in the mid 1920s so just under 100? Known Ray and Damien since WWII, closer to Ray. The only sensible one, definitely the mom friend. Look, she might not know what she's doing 100% of the time but she's trying. Not very suspicious, sometimes a bit too optimistic, and let's herself get pushed around by others. Also the only one with (modern) medical knowledge.

Skylar: probably my favorite to write. Has almost 0 resemblance to original which is honestly for the best. Nonbinary, uses they/them pronouns, panromantic and realizes partway through the story that they're grayace. Age biologically and chronologically 17. Pretty hotheaded and generally impulsive, will not hesitate to punch a homophobe/racist/sexist/anyone who deserves it. Loud and outgoing but also struggles with anxiety and can gentle when needed, though they're not the best at it.

Ari: was supposed to be like Skylar 2.0 but then somehow their personalities swapped so rip I can't control my own characters. Lesbian, and her age is chronologically and biologically 16. Dead inside and constantly tired. Still chaotic tho, and has canonically changed all of her English teachers lesson plans to the bee movie script and was never found out. Knows Skylar pre-story due to said English class. Also under a lot of development, I'm sorry Ari. Very stubborn. I want to say more but I'm tired and that's all I can come up with rn

Naomi: Damien's sister, dies 8-9 months before the main story. Is responsible for Damien and Ray getting together in the first place. Idk her sexuality at all so rip, 2 years older than Damien. Strong willed, and more but this is just a mention so :p

Emmeline: can't say much bc spoilers but she and Ray were in an arranged marriage (yes they were young but their parents were jerks) but Damien and Ray were secretly dating and it was a whole thing. Still nice, doing her best. Same age as Ray, straight probably. More perceptive than she seems

Sylvie: uhhh in non universe specific terms, she's Damien's mentor? I guess? Around mid to late 20s, aromantic bisexual bc heck yeah. A badass. Just, a badass. Somewhat reluctant to teach but definitely cares for Damien. Tough and strong and knows what she's doing. Unfortunately, she doesn't work great with groups so that's fun for literally everyone else.

And if he met Megatron? Oh he's really glad this is not the Megatron he’s fighting...then he finds out about Megatron and Optimus's history and he comes to 2 conclusions

1) He has got to keep his universes Optimus AWAY from Megatron (Ratchet makes this very clear DON'T LET YOUR UNIVERSE GET SADDLED WITH THIS PIT DAMNED DYNAMIC)

2)...this Megatron can never find out what he said to Optimus he will die.

Sentinel is convinced this giant ultra magnus has damaged his processor because he keeps saying Optimus should be leading the Autobots and Sentinel is losing it!

He also nopes out of the council stuff (because he's getting flashbacks to the start of the war...maybe it's a good thing Optimus is on earth because otherwise this might not end well) he keeps sending council calls to voicemail or pretending he has no signal

Then he ends up on earth and see's tiny Optimus and 'OH GOD HE'S GOING TO FIGHT MEGATRON SHIT' because even though he's young he's still Optimus and still so the most capable of all of them.

Optimus is so confused. (Especially when Magnus finds out about what the other said to him and is so apologetic it's awkward)

tldr; she's wary of her. as long as reyna's goal is to defend earth from attackers, she's good in her book. but nuniq feels that if given too much power she might turn on the protocol.

nuniq actually likes?? how serious neon is in battle??

granted neon can be a little reckless sometimes but its in moderation *glances at raze

she likes that neon is really peppy but knows theres a time and place for it

finally . no more babysitting duelists

neon reminds her a lot of herself when she first got her radiance; unstable, trying to keep up, trying her best

while nuniq hasnt completely mastered her abilities yet, she will hand over a piece of wisdom

surprisingly despite neons past in kingdom nuniq is willing to trust her

shes young and learning and theres so much more she can do

so she was definitely aware she’d see,,,well, herself in battle from brim’s briefing but

so theres a lot to unpack here

her home was kinda taken by kingdom fellas in suits

this guy is a kingdom guy in a suit

weapons designer, sure, but hes filthy stinking rich and he seems like the type to invest that into more projects involving radianite which could potentially hurt people like with what happened to her

ive established that nuniqs trust is an extremely hard thing to gain, and chambers case only makes it harder

as much as chamber claims to be an open book, she calls bullshit

shes familiar with pandering patterns and can tell genuineness from appeasement 

she will lessen her coldness to him overtime but deep down there will still be that deep, pit-like feeling inside her that shes being played

dont even get me started on the whole astra thing

astra is someone who she deeply cares about (doesnt even have to be in the romantic sense, she also sees her as a close friend) and for chamber to view her as an opportunity rather than a person upsets her

also raises the question of where chamber stands: what are his intents? motives? what does he plan with the other agents, especially the radiants? because if hes planning to weaponize people,,,,mmmm,,,,

brimstone is someone she grows to trust because he has people hes fighting for. chamber does not. so to think that someone she respects is putting the protocol’s hands in someone absolutely untrustworthy? oh my

astra is really good at lifting morale

missions with astra make her feel very safe and important

being around her in GENERAL makes her feel safe

really thankful that someone as powerful as her has such a kind soul

like no seriously the lady can control space itself theyre lucky she hasnt destroyed the whole universe yet

confides in her sometimes, astra is really good at consoling her

she motivates her to fight

they hit it off really quick

he's very warm and approachable and she likes that about him

Juulna’s ‘Hold Onto Your Sanity’ Fic, Book, and Music Recs for the 2020 Dumpster Fire... Part 3!

So you just crash-landed behind enemy lines in a war you know barely anything about except that your role seems infinitesimal and insignificant, and dumped into a year, 2020, that already seems fifteen years too long.

Before you drown your sorrows in some fantastic scotch or wine coolers for days (or weeks)… I have a proposal.

These fics are meant to take you out of your head (I’m including more plot/story-minded fics than PWP) for the next few weeks or months as the world goes to hell (even more) but of course there are some bits of solid angst in these as there is wont to be in many a fic. I’ve chosen to pick fics (mostly) off of AO3 for their easy reading access, though HP fics’ golden years were on sites like fanfiction.net and other independent archives like Sycophanthex and others which have closed their doors over the years, sadly.
