so many twists in this show but my new favourite is them setting cobel up as such a complete and utter freak for a season and a half only for this episode to reveal she's actually SHOCKINGLY WELL ADJUSTED for what she's been through

Saying Harmony Cobel isn't an important enough character to have her own episode after it's revealed that she created the thing the show is named for is just embarrassing.

okay cobel is obviously still a nasty piece of work but my god, my god. seeing her in her school uniform picture with those twin braids, i gasped. because when we first saw her in that throat to ankle white nightgown (which uh, exact mirror of her aunt or what) with those braids i kept thinking it felt so strange for her to wear her hair like that. and then we see that’s what she wore it like when she was a child, when she was attending this kier institute and being brainwashed and drugged and worked to an inch of her life at eight fucking years old and my god ofc she wears her hair in the same braids. she’s carrying her childhood with her like an open wound, she’s never fucking outgrown the trauma she’s just fucking stuffed it down to writhe under the floorboards of her consciousness. in so many ways she still IS that little girl in the uniform, she still IS that little girl manning the vats for ten hours drugged out of her mind. and here we are, talking about hair and how it’s used to masterfully evoke characterization YET AGAIN i am foaming at the mouth.

lovelovelove the helena/helly debate cuz i can fully see both sides. like, yeah, it makes sense that the lying, the insistence that innies and outies are two separate people, the reassurance that there are no cameras or microphones, the fumbling with the computer switch, and her hesitation/confusion when mark hugs her would all be helena trying to fit in and have them trust her so she can find out anything else lumon doesnt already know about. on the other hand i can totally see helly being absolutely devastated to find out that she’s the cause of her suffering in an even more involved way than all the others and wanting to hide that fact. her family built lumon from the ground up, her father is the one who came up with the severance procedure, and helly herself encourages others to become severed. it must be soul crushing to learn that You and your whole family are the cause of your suffering AND your friends suffering. it would make sense for helly to being acting strange because of that revelation and it makes sense that she would want to see outies and innies as two entirely separate people. its just very neat i like it a lot its very fun to me :3

woke up in the middle of the night yesterday and couldn’t stop thinking about how lumon invented Misogyny 2.0. women get severed to have babies and let their severed selves manage their domestic duties. this labour is unpaid for, underappreciated, and never-ending. they’ve invented a woman who now exists only to fulfil her roles as a domestic servant. women don’t have access to contraceptives on the severed floor either, and unprotected sex is their only recourse if they want to experience sexual pleasure.

Things we've learnt from the latest episode

Lumon used religious propaganda to ensnare people into becoming severed.

Mr. Milkshake is now punishing himself to remedy his "shortcomings" listed in the performance review.

Lumon's strategy of working their severed floor, specifically MDR is keeping them overworked, overstressed, just on edge, so that they are easier to manipulate and intimidate. Ms. Cobel's insanity, at least part of it, makes sense now.

We still don't know what the hell is wrong with her though

Dylan's wife is having an affair with his innie, I don't even know where to begin with this mess so I will leave it as such.

Innie [Irv and Burt] are in heaven together, eventhough Burt became severed to be in paradise in the afterlife with Fields. Fields looks as though he's not far from a crash out.

Burt is definitely in leagues with the Eagans and is not to be trusted.

Devon cannot leave Mark alone for a second or else he's getting open brain surgery

finding out cobel invented the severance chip has me thinking about when helly looked her in the eye and told her “i’m gonna kill your company” in the season 1 finale… talk about foreshadowing

man sometimes I think about the fact that all the kids who were like me and [more] medically neglected are just dead now and it's depressing lmao

like I see posts about being medically neglected as a kid and how hard it was and it's like. fuck. the kids like me who didn't see a doctor are just not here anymore.

the eugenicist healthcare system kills infants and toddlers and sometimes I am brutally reminded of that

Do you ever think about how genuinely excited and happy Helena seemed to be undergoing severance in S01E02 only to end up looking and feeling more trapped and controlled and almost frightened when she was later forced to keep going down to the severed floor? I do. All the time.

The two things I think about the most from Severance are:

-Women who got pregnant cause her innie has sex which she didn't know about

-Innie whose entire existence is to be pregnant and give birth

I cant stop thinking about this too!!

What is bodily autonomy when you're sharing a body but not memories, and you cannot communicate or know anything about the other person who lives inside you?

It's not as horrifying, but this must be horrifying for family members too. There's another version of your spouse or parent or sibling that doesn't know you exist. If your innie falls in love/ has sex, does it count as cheating if you consider them to be an entirely separate entity?
