Here the first chapter.
▪️▪️▪️
Five years.
One hundred and fifty letters exchanged.
About three hundred stamps, including those for priority and international mail. Ireland, Netherlands, France, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Spain and the Canary Islands, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey, Armenia, Egypt, Cape Verde, the island of Cyprus, Morocco, and back north to Norway and the Svalbard Islands — yes, he had read them all.
And he had kept all the dozens — dozens, dozens — of photographs, tickets, newspaper clippings, pamphlets and so on and so forth; he had had to empty a trunk to put everything away.
Severus had never considered himself a sentimental man, yet he'd never allow any of his old friends to cross the threshold of his study only to discover the inkblots on the scribbled parchment, signed with his first name and, on top on the page, that usual «My dear Licorice». My dear — it had become ridiculous how he had found himself waiting for her letter, punctual every two weeks for five years, coming from all over Europe and beyond.
Severus knotted his tie glancing at the invitation, opened on the table in front of the fireplace. It was going to be a formal event, the Quibbler's twentieth birthday, the Lovegood's magazine; it had been unexpected, she hadn't warned him of the precedence of her return to England. A flush of heat tinted lightly his cheeks red, and he found himself berating — an old fool, that's who he was. Fortunately, Albus was no longer there to tease his idiosyncrasies.
Severus closed his eyes, inhaled deeply and grabbed the card with the typical annoyance that had accompanied him for a lifetime; the flames in the fireplace trembled and the Headmistress shrill voice called to him. "Are you ready? I'm going now with Filius but I very much hope you want to join us, Severus."
He nodded. "I'll be there, Minerva."
The flame vanished with a puff of ash. His hand hesitated over the jar of Floo Powder. Another mirror check, just to make sure the knot is neat. Severus had never considered himself a vain man — good Merlin, no, no. He had never found anything particularly interesting in his physical appearance of him. Nothing worth paying attention to more than the five minutes it took to brush his teeth twice a day and shave three times a week. Yet now that he was wearing a new midnight blue suit (and had combed his hair, had shaved even though it didn't seem necessary, and had tried — unsuccessfully — to choose a perfume) he felt decidedly uncomfortable. He cursed the girl, again. Severus squeezed the invitation in his pocket thinking he would give up, but the very idea of missing this opportunity made him miserable. You won a war, get some self-love good God. And with a final flash of resolution, Severus grabbed the Floo, stepped into the chimney, and traveled to the Quibbler's London headquarters.
—————
It was a warm evening on the rooftops of London. From that terrace lit in purple and gold one could admire the whole city; the artificial lights of the Muggle streets were magically extinguished under the transparent dome that hid them from prying eyes, and entire constellations unfolded in the sky like a mantle of precious stones set in velvet. Severus avoided the crowd. Minerva had dragged him here — to congratulate the Lovegood family, and to rejoin old friends from Hogwarts — and there — to shake hands with the members of the Ministry who had been invited; it had been forty-five unbearable minutes of intercourse and pointless chatter, with the one exception of Luna Lovegood — surprisingly. The girl had always had an aura of genius around her, from a certain point of view, and the newspaper had achieved new popularity in the wizarding world thanks to her.
She approached him — saving him from the gang of little journalists who were hoping to extort him who knows what interview - and offered him wine. "I knew you were coming, Mr. Snape" Luna affirmed with a dreamlike smile. "Although I also know that you aren't particularly interested in the company of the other guests, nor in mine." Severus nodded, without adding anything. "Have you met Licorice yet? She is very impatient to meet you, but they keep interrupting. So rude, isn't it?"
"Is she?" he asked, sounding more interested than he wanted. Too many years had passed, it was unlikely to be true — even though he didn't remember Miss Lovegood having ever lied in her entire career.
She brightened up. "It will be a splendid reunion, yours. This evening is surprisingly devoid of nargles, there is a very positive energy." And then she began to tell about the latest edition of the Quibbler which was to be published the following week; she revealed the titles of the articles to him in advance, and only at the end did she promise she would find Miss Hatch for him.
"There is no rush, Miss Lovegood. I'm sure Miss Hatch will have other impediments to deal with at the moment."
Luna shook her head. "Nonsense, she has done nothing but ask about you since she came back" and with these words she disappeared.
He sighed, keeping himself from brooding too much. The glass of Syrah in his hand was infinitely more attractive than his thoughts. However, hiding behind the shimmering crystal of his goblet hadn't been enough to escape Mr. Potter; the boy had grown up, undoubtedly, and if he were really interested about him the wedding ring on his left hand would have had a strange effect, but Severus had seen many students grow up, become adults and start their own lives over the course of nearly twenty years of teaching. It wasn't new.
Harry approached with an outstretched hand and a friendly smile. "I'm glad to see you here, professor. It's been a while."
Severus returned the gesture. "Since Granger and Weasley's wedding. And I don't have to remind you that I'm no longer a Hogwarts professor, do I Potter?"
"No sir. The Devon is good for your health, you look good."
Severus nodded. The boy — that young man — at least seemed as uncomfortable as he was. For some reason Harry had never stopped insisting; letters, invitations, Christmas cards. He never answered. "And how is Mrs. Potter? I haven't seen her yet."
"Oh no," Harry replied, with a smile "Ginny stayed home, the pregnancy is starting to be tiring and she needs rest." So they exchanged a few more words: Harry was excited about becoming a father, told him about their new home near the Burrow and how Hermione and Ron had preferred to move to London for the time being, and had the decency not to ask him many personal questions. When he confessed he had read his publications on Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts, Severus rolled his eyes and didn't even try to look flattered. His gaze ran bored over the crowd as the boy continued to speak.
"...another drink?" Potter asked.
The terrace slowly emptied as the remaining couples moved to the center. The speeches of thanks had stopped, light classical music floated in the air; Severus knew it was time to move and accepted another glass of wine with a defeated sigh. The bar was packed with people, many crowded in line for yet another cocktail and it was the perfect — terrifing — opportunity to reconnect with old, unpleasant acquaintances.
Harry raised his hand and greeted someone. Obviously, Severus thought. Two pairs of eyes turned towards them: Sirius Black approached, clutching a Campari with ice in his hand and accompanying a young, beautiful woman beside him. Snape was sure he hadn't seen her before; she wore a long black dress with two dizzying slits showing her tanned legs. When Sirius hugged Harry, she smiled at him.
"Ah, Snape" Black commented. His small black eyes giggled, studying the unusual blue suit - which actually fit him perfectly. "I heard you moved to the country side. How's life in the middle of nowhere?"
Severus didn't even waste the breath he needed to snort. "Torquay is hardly the middle of nowhere, Black — if I were you I'd think before I utter even a single word."
Harry had to intervene, for the umpteenth time, trying to avoid the nascent discussion and turned his attention to the music, commenting on the lovely evening that Luna had organized. Sirius nodded. "You are absolutely right, Harry. Dearest," Black turned to the young woman, showing off his best smile "would you like to dance?"
She grinned, a light of resolve illuminated her gaze. "Indeed yes" she replied, but she refused Sirius's hand when he offered it. "I would very much like to dance with you, professor Snape."
Sirius gasped, shocked. Snape smirked.
Oh, Severus wouldn't have let an opportunity like that pass by; rarely — perhaps never — such a beautiful woman would have preferred his hand to Black's, and now he could enjoy this little revenge. He slipped his hand down the woman's back, touching the bare skin with his fingertips to the hem of her dress, and led her onto the dance floor giving Balck one last defiant look. Then, finally, he moved his eyes to that lovely creature.
She was young, much younger than him. And she was smiling, still. She wasn't hesitant, but her hand rested on his shoulder with reverence, so light he could barely feel her through his jacket.
"I must inform you" he said, "that I'm not a professor, not anymore. It's been five years."
She giggled and nodded, starting to swing in his arms. Someone had given them a few curious looks, but he pretended not to notice, as always. "Yes, I know" she replied. "How do you find the evening?"
He shrugged, looked around to glare at the newly weds Weasleys, and sighed. "Dreadful. Still, the wine was delicious."
"That's all?" the whispered question sounded more like a challenge, a playful provocation. "Only... the wine?"
She was delightful. She was warm, bright. Severus had learned not to ask himself why a pleasant thing could happen to him; he spun her around before taking her back into his arms, she laughed and it was a sweet sound. And she looked at him. Her eyes were greedy, as if she were eagerly trying to quench her curiosity, to steal all his attention and the more she smiled at him like that — completely enraptured — the more he forgot everything that was around them. Delicious, indeed.
"I would say my evening has definitely, if unexpectedly, improved" Severus replied. His eyes darted to Sirius for a moment, enjoying his palpable nervousness, and he smirked.
She shook her head. "Hmm, that's so unfair," she muttered, amused. Severus lost himself in her bewitched gaze, mesmerized by her. He didn't know what to think; he just held her a little closer to his chest. She smelled good, lovely — familiar and comforting, somehow. "You take pleasure in the little revenge against your enemy, yet you have a young, beautiful woman in the palm of your hands, literally." And it was true. The song had changed, but she didn't let go: she took his hand and did another pirouette, leaving him baffled as she came closer and put both hands behind his neck, playing with the ends of his hair. If he blushed, she didn't notice. "And you didn't even ask me my name, did you?"
Severus was ashamed. It was in his habit to be rude and intractable, but not in his nature to be so terribly distracted. His back suddenly stiffened, his gaze turned hard and stern, but she just giggled in amusement, shaking her head. "God — you haven't recognized me yet, have you? And I thought you were waiting for my return!"
Words echoed in his mind and memories. Severus paled imperceptibly. His fingers dug into the hips of the young woman in front of him and he pulled her away to look at her a little better; she blushed, guilty.
"Licorice Hatch" he breathed.
Her eyes were filled with tears, but she didn't cry. "Finally, Severus."

Daylight a Severus Snape fan fic
Previoous chapters:
1   2  3  4
Ch 5
The week leading up to Halloween Sinead was busy with decorations and setting up the festivities in the Great Hall. Severus only saw Sinead at meals and at night when they were together.
"Sev, have you picked out a costume?” Sinead asked coming into Severus’s room.
“Costume?” He asked as she put her hands on her hips.
“For Halloween? There is going to be feast and a celebration.” Severus looked up from his book with a scowl.
“I don’t wear costumes. I’m sure other professors will not be joining in-“
“Everyone else is wearing a costume. I have personally checked.”
“Sinead, as much as your enthusiasm is well received by the other staff and the students I will not be wearing a costume.”
“Oh, ok.” She said clearly showing her disappointment. “Well… I’ll leave you to your book.”
“Your not staying?” He asked closing the book.
“I should go work on my costume.” She said with a smirk before disappearing back into her room.
The day before Halloween Sinead spent all day at the shop in Hogsmeade. She had released a new line of products and everything was flying off the shelves between orders from all over the world and witches making the trek to the shop in hopes of meeting her. Trent found it funny she was becoming a celebrity but that day a few Death Eaters appeared in the shop he began to fear for Sinead’s safety.
“Hello, how can I help you?”  The shop was about to close.
“Just looking around.” The taller man all but growled. Trent who was getting ready to leave the shop paused.
“Oh forgot those notes I need to review.” He said walking back further into the shop and back towards the workspace.
“All of the products over there are for the women’s line. The men’s line is over here and all general purpose items are in the middle of the shop.” Sinead said forcing herself to smile.
“Not to many shops are open here. A young witch like you shouldn’t be left alone.”
“I’m here all the time.” Trent said coming out of the back.
“Hmm… why not pack things up and return to America? It would be safer for a mudblood like yourself.” The taller name sneered. Trent was about to draw his wand when Sinead mouthed no.
“Sorry you feel that way. If you don’t like mixed blood wizards then maybe my shop isn’t for you.” Sinead said crossing her arms.
“Wouldn’t want anything here anyway.” The shorter man said opening the door and slamming it shut as the walls rattled. The taller man sneered.
“Watch yourself, mudblood. It would be a shame if something happened to you or this shop.”  Trent was about to open his mouth as the man stalked out the door.
“Sinead, you really had to push them-"
“They were going to have a problem no matter what we said or did. We need to up our protection spells.” Trent followed her lead setting an even more complicated spell on the shop. Sinead flooed back to the castle and Trent flooed home. When Sinead walked through the flood Severus was pacing.
“Why didn’t you send a Patronus for help? Where were the Aurors? They are supposed to be protecting Hogsmeade?” Sinead frowned and let out a sigh.
“Sev, this was going to happen. I’m honestly surprised it’s the first time they showed up and tried to intimidate me. Trent was there and everything is fine.”
“Sinead, they would do horrible things to you if they could.” Severus said wrapping his arms around her shaking. “I was about to go there myself-“
“Sev, it’s ok. I’m fine and maybe I need to close the shop earlier if it would make you feel better.”
“Your safety is a priority. Even if Trent is there he wouldn’t be able to stop them. I doubt some of the Aurors would be able to stop them if they wanted to hurt or take you.”
“Shhh…let’s not worry about that.”
“Sinead, all I do is worry. Every time you leave this castle I worry.” He whispered as she rubbed his back.
“I will be more careful. I promise.”
“If anything ever happened to you I don’t know what I would do.” He said softly.
“I worry every time you leave too.”
That night Severus couldn’t sleep. Every time he closed his eyes he saw Death Eaters torturing Sinead and he was forced to watch. After not being able to sleep he made his way out to Hogsmeade using an invisibility spell. He checked on the defenses of the shop and when he felt satisfied with his improvements he went back to the castle and worked in his study till the early hours of the morning and he made sure he returned to bed so Sinead didn’t wake up alone.
Sinead’s fluttered open a small smile on her face and it faded when she saw how tired Severus looked.
“You didn’t sleep again.” She said softly.
“It’s fine. I’ll be fine.”
“Severus, you need to sleep. Tonight you should take a sleeping draught. You need your rest.” He forced a nod.
“Today is your big day. The whole school is excited for the costume ball.” Severus said changing the subject.
“Yes, did you changed your mind about a costume?” He shook his head and Sinead grinned. “Ok, I made you something incase you did. It’s hanging in your closet.”  A rare smile crossed Severus’s face as he chuckled.
“Don’t you know I need to keep my reputation as the most hated and feared professor at Hogwarts?” He said pulling her close. Sinead frowned. She hated when he spoke badly about himself.
“Everyone does not hate you. Slytherin House respects you as do your peers.”
“Sinead, I learned long ago I cannot care about who hates or likes me.” He said with a sigh.
“Well… I love you. I have seen the real you, Severus and if more people saw that-“
“No, that is not something I want to share with the world. I am not a people person, I never have and I doubt I ever will be. The world has not been kind to everyone, Sinead. You have led a charmed life where things have happened easier for you and people love you. Just walking into the room and smiling you win most people over.”
“Oh, Sev. It’s not that always that easy-“
“It’s getting late and we should get ready for the day.”
Sinead nodded knowing that was his way of “ending” their discussion. It was a discussion she had tried to have several times before and it had always ended in a similar fashion.

Claire shivered as she looked down at the water flowing beneath her, glistening red in the pale moonlight.
‘So, the rumours are true.’ She whispered.
The snow crunched under her feet as she made her way across the old arched bridge, and then started following a small path through the park that followed alongside the river upstream.
There were rumours that every year without fail, on the fourth of January, the river always turned red for a few hours in the evening. And now, she had finally been able to confirm that rumour.
Claire had always been fascinated by Demsdale, a city rumoured to have a large vampire population, if you believed in vampires that was… Claire’s rational side didn’t really believe in it, she knew there had to be a reasonable, scientific explanation for it all. But at the same time, she had always been intrigued with the idea of vampires being real.
It was said that many authors of vampire books had come to Demsdale for inspiration. More-so the borough of Redbridge, where Claire stood currently, because of the red river. So, even if the rumours weren’t true, just being where many great books were born was quite exciting in itself.
Claire had just moved there between Christmas and New Year, due to start her new job tomorrow as an assistant teacher.
She continued her way through the park, keeping in line with the river until it came to an abrupt bend and went through a forest situated at the edge of the borough. Although, as she continued following it through the tall trees, she soon found she couldn’t go any further as an intimidating, high barbed wire fence blocked her way.
‘Damn it.’ She hissed and pulled her jacket in closer around her neck as the cold began creeping in.
A loud noise, similar to a bone snapping, came from behind her and made her jump, she spun around quickly and tried to get her eyes to focus. Whilst there was some light that came from the lanterns in the park, it was still dark enough for her eyes to play tricks on her. She could’ve sworn she had just seen a large shadow ducking behind a tree not too far from her.
Calm down, Claire. It’s just your eyes playing tricks on you… Just make your way back to the park. She thought to herself, trying to calm her nerves.
Inhaling deeply a few times to try and steady her shaky breathing, she began making her way back to the safety of the park. She kept her eyes on the ground to follow her footprints back out towards the path so she wouldn't get lost.
But just as she neared the edge of the trees, it sounded like there was footsteps following her through the snow. Her back stiffened as she hastily emerged from the forest, even though the noise abruptly stopped, she kept moving to get plenty of distance from the intimidating trees.
Once back in the light of the park, she bravely turned around and looked at the dark forest. Now that she was looking back at it, she mentally slapped herself for going in there in the first place. Redbridge was, after all, well known for murders and kidnappings. Not that there was a crazy amount regularly, but just more so than anywhere else in the city.
There was no sign of anyone now, allowing her to relax. But her calm moment didn't last long, when a deafening noise filled the whole area. It sounded like high-pitched screams and leather slapping all at once. Claire’s heart immediately began racing again. She turned on her heels and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Seconds later, a group of bats flew overhead out from the trees and dispersed around the park.
‘Bloody hell.’ She gasped as she stopped to catch her breath again, hand clutched to her chest.
‘Time to go home.’ She muttered and finally made her way out of the park. She felt better being back on the streets, with cars and plenty of people going about.
It didn’t take too long for her to get home either, she stayed just on the borderline of Redbridge. It was ideal as it was in close proximity to the school she was going to be working at. As soon as she had locked the door behind her, she grabbed one of her history books and flicked through the pages until she found the one she had been looking for.
Articles about the history of the city. They claimed that the bridge Claire had stood on just minutes earlier, was where the very first five vampires were turned by a spiteful witch looking for revenge on people of the former village of Demsdale, for brutally murdering her sister. She had trapped five men on said bridge and cursed them into blood sucking monsters, hoping they would bring terror and death to the villagers.
That was apparently why the borough earned the name Redbridge, and where the rumour of the blood river started too. The book said the curse was brought upon the men on the fourth of January, where every year thereafter the river turns red on that very night, but just for a few hours.
Claire hadn’t truly believed it at first, but after seeing it with her own eyes tonight, she wasn’t sure what to believe anymore. She had hoped to find some kind of logical explanation, but she wasn’t about to go trespassing over barbed wire in a freaky forest to find out.
She decided that she'd had enough adventure for one night and went to bed with her book. She hadn’t closed the curtains yet, but ended up so engrossed in her book that she never noticed a bat at her window, looking at her from small, black eyes.
-
‘It’s barbaric.’ Matt uttered, shaking his head.
‘It’s fun! They don’t feel anything.’ David replied with a shrug, stirring his tea.
‘Yeah, maybe not when you do it, but we all know there’s some that enjoy torturing the poor humans in the process.’ Matt argued back.
Loki had just walked into the teacher’s lounge in the morning and couldn’t help but overhear their bickering.
‘Well, I wonder what it could be you’re talking about.’ He grumbled, making himself a cup of tea.
‘In our defence, it was mostly humans that wanted to end their life that were used last night…’ Jessica chimed in with.
‘Mostly is the word that’s the problem there.’ Loki huffed. ‘I read online there’s six humans that mysteriously went missing yesterday.’
The others went a little quiet. Then Severus, who usually keeps to himself, spoke up. ‘Still, less people were killed than in previous years. That number is going down, if only a little.’
‘Hey, how come you weren’t there? It’s not like you to miss out on the yearly hunt.’ David asked.
Severus’ eyes twinkled a little. ‘I was… otherwise engaged.’
‘Yeah, getting it on with his new girl.’ Jessica smirked.
‘Right, I forgot a human has got you wrapped around her little finger now.’ David laughed.
‘At least I have someone that loves me for me.’ Severus countered.
‘Don’t tell me she’s turning you soft, old man!’ Hannibal teased.
‘There’s nothing wrong with loving a human.’ Loki snapped.
‘I never said there was.’ Hannibal said in defence.
‘Well, Severus is right. At least things are still going in the right direction, it’s less numbers than previous years. Your father’s ways are really starting to get out there more.’ David tried, hoping to calm Loki down a little.
‘I guess so. I just agree with Matt. Hunting terrified humans just to drink for fun is disgusting. Especially when we have access to the blood bank whenever we need.’ Loki stated.
‘Plus, with all the bars we have deals with. There’s just no need to be hunting to kill and terrify anymore.’ Matt agreed.
Loki nodded. ‘Exactly. Even if most of the prey are willing to be there, there’s still no need for it. It needs to end. It’s a ridiculous tradition.’
‘Well, I made sure none of them felt any pain. It’s an old yearly tradition, but at least it’s less barbaric than it used to be. And I’m sure in the next few years it will be only the willing humans there.’ David shrugged.
‘Not with Chris still running it, it won’t be.’ Loki growled.
‘What won’t be?’ Came Chris’ voice as he entered the room.
‘We were speaking about the yearly hunt. That each year there’s less and less unwilling humans there.’ Hannibal said.
Loki stiffened and focused on drinking his tea, angry eyes not leaving the cup in front of him.
Chris smirked as he stalked across the room to the kettle. ‘Indeed, they are getting less… which is a shame, as it’s nowhere near as fun when they’re there of their own accord.’
Loki and Matt both bit their tongues to keep quiet. They knew there was no point fighting with him, they wouldn’t win anyway. No one could win a physical fight against Chris. Being one of the original five vampires, he was one of the most powerful vampires in the world even. There was only two of them left.
‘But we do need to keep the peace with the humans.’ Jessica said calmly.
‘True.’ Chris nodded. ‘However, that’s why having the hunt when we do is ideal. Everyone just thinks that people have ran away or killed themselves after spending the depressing holiday season on their own.’ Chris said calmly as he turned to face everyone with a grin.
‘Didn’t you enjoy yourselves?’ Chris then asked, looking at David, Jessica and Hannibal.
‘Of course, we did. It’s always fun, even with the willing humans. It brings us back to our carnal nature after all. Let’s us live out our little fantasy every year.’ Jessica said with a smile.
‘Well then. The vampires are happy, the humans that went there willingly are happily at peace, and the few I picked off because they were lonely, well… I am sure they are happier wherever they are now.’ Chris gave Jessica a charming smile.
Loki struggled to remain calm, his jaw clenched and his free hand balled into a fist. He tried his best not to crush his cup.
Everyone went silent when they heard the only two human teachers making their way down the corridor towards the room.
Redbridge secondary school was run by vampires, and most of the teachers were vampires too, with just two human teachers. The pupils were 60% vampires but only a few of the human pupils knew about their existence, mostly if they were best friends with a vampire or dating one.
As the school’s headmaster, Chris was almost in total control of the place. However, the school also had a set council of vampires that had the ultimate say in big decisions. The school had been set up by Loki’s father, Lucius. The income they received from family’s that sent their kids there could go into the blood bank at the hospital down the road.
The hospital was founded and ran by Lucius too, and the blood bank was for vampires to have a way of getting their feed without actually having to drink from humans. The humans got paid for their blood donations, of course thinking it went to fellow humans in need. Which part of it did, because Lucius did run a proper hospital too, bustling with humans working there, glad they had a well-paying job.
For the last one hundred years, Lucius has had a vision of humans and vampires being able to co-exist together, with the humans mostly being unaware of the vampire’s existence. It had been a hard battle getting vampires to change their old ways, but with more vampire hunters entering the scene, the vampires realised that they couldn’t keep feeding off of human’s as they pleased without consequence. There was one vampire hunter in particular who had proven to fight the especially cruel and unrelenting vampires with the same, if not more cruelty. In the end, most of them realised that Lucius’ way was the right way, especially if they wanted to stay alive.
Some bars had policies for vampires, they would send the drunk humans out the back where vampires could take their fill from them. Providing they didn’t kill them. So when the human woke up, whatever they would remember from the encounter just seemed like a lucid dream.
While there were still lots of vampires that enjoyed feeding from humans in one way or another, there was a few that not only enjoyed feeding from them, but enjoyed torturing them too, not fearing the consequences or the hunters. Vampires could release endorphins while they were feeding, resulting in the humans to feel drowsy and happy, but some vampires choose not to. They loved hearing the cries of terror and pain while they were drinking from their prey far too much. Often, they would not stop after the human passed out, they would suck the human dry.
And Chris happened to be one of those vampires.
The human teachers Michael and Jeremy entered the lounge and happily greeted everyone. The vampires all put on smiles and everyone shared what they got up to over the holidays. Well, the human friendly parts, at least.
Loki was still uncomfortable about being in the same room as Chris, especially after what had happened last night. So he left the room as soon as he could.
‘I’m away to get my lessons planned for the day.’ He hastily said to everyone.
‘Oh Loki, before you go...’ Chris called to him, making him stop but Loki didn’t turn to face Chris. ‘You’ve got a new assistant joining you today. She’s just passed her teaching exams from across the country and is going to be joining us for a couple of years.’
Loki turned and looked at Chris with an eyebrow up. ‘You didn’t think to tell me before now?’
Chris hid a smirk behind his tea as he took a sip. ‘I didn’t know about it until this morning when I came in. It’s not a problem, is it?’
Loki kept his cool and shook his head. ‘No, not at all… I could do with the assistance actually.’
‘Good. She’ll be in your classroom, waiting.’
‘She? Finally, another woman in the mix.’ Jessica cheered.
Loki turned around and continued on out of the room with his jaw clenched. He was pissed that he was only being told now. He thought it would no doubt be another vampire, if Chris had something to do with it. Loki only hoped she wasn’t old school type with her feeding. Or they would end up not getting along well at all.
As he opened the door to his classroom, the most intoxicating, mouth-watering smell, instantly hit him like a ton of bricks.
‘Oh, hi! You must be Mr Laufeyson. I’m Claire, Claire Mason.’ A young woman said brightly as she walked up to him with her hand outstretched towards him.
Oh no. She was no vampire… This was going to be much, much, worse than he had thought.

I would really like to share this story for all the Snape-fans and 'Harry Potter'-fans out there!
It's a beautiful and very well-written story with an OC and delightful references to art and history. It's a colourful and beautiful world to me and I wanted to share that if you like fanfictions like this too. It features Pureblood society, which is a personal favourite of mine. 💝
I hope you may enjoy it, I very much love the author's stories, they're basically usually novel-length. :)

Hi lovelyyyy, I remember seeing ur post about wanting to write something desi x harry potter vibe related and as a desi myself I LOVE THIS IDEA SM and have always wanted to read something like this!!
So I wanted to request - could you do something Severus x reader (who are already in an established relationship), where reader is an indian girl and has a indian boy best friend. They sometimes talk to each other in Hindi (or whatever indian language you speak) so ofc they seem super close to everyone + one day in Potions class he starts teasing her about Severus in Hindi and she starts blushing, laughing and hitting him playfully etc and Severus notices and gets jealous?
Severus can like confront her about it later and she reassures him before she starts expressing her love to him in Hindi, giving translations too and then its just full of fluff
If not dw!! Just really wanna read something desi related and im a killer for jealous severus fics ahah
Absolutely love all ur work btw :)

Severus Snape x Indian! Fem! Reader
Severus clenched his quill when he heard Y/n giggling. Normally his heart would fill with warmth when he would hear her laugh but now that her new friend Aditya was making her laugh, his heart burned.
It had all started a week ago. It was supposed to be a lovely day, just him and his Y/n, enjoying the pleasant weather with him laying on her lap as she gently massaged his scalp. But as they were walking towards the black lake Y/n bumped into Aditya. He told her he was lost as he is an exchange student. As they talked more Y/n realised Aditya belonged from her native place. Now she wouldn't budge from her place even if Severus tugged her sleeve with a pout on his lips as they talked about their favourite places to visit.
He looked up from his notes to see Aditya whispering in Y/n's ear and noticed her cheeks blush from his words. Severus got irritated and scratched his nose as the scowl deepened on his forehead. Severus got up with a huff as soon as the class got over, ignoring Y/n's voice calling his name despite feeling fireworks in his heart at how his name sounded in her voice.
"Sev, wait." The speed of his footsteps increased as he heard her call his name again, the sound of his heartbreaking was louder. He was on the verge of tears the thought of losing Y/n clouded his mind so much he didn't realise when she caught up to him.
Y/n tugged his arm and her heart shattered at the sight of his tear-filled eyes. She went to comfort him by touching his arm but he avoided her touch. His glare was cold. "No need to put up with me. If I have started to feel like a burden to you, you can leave. I won't stop you." He spat the bitter words at her, finding it easier to do than confront her.
"What are you talking about Sev? What's the matter?" Y/n asked trying to hold his hand to calm him. Severus couldn’t retract his hand, he always felt grounded whenever he felt her hand in his.
“You don’t have to be with me because you pity me Y/n. You are free to be with someone you actually love.” he diverted his eyes trying not to let her see his teary eyes.
Y/n tried to pull his chin up but he looked away again. “Sev please don’t look away from me. Tell me what’s wrong?”
“Do you love Aditya?” the way his voice cracked made her heartbreak. He thought this was an endgame and that this will the last time he will get to look into her eyes.
“Oh, Severus.” Y/n tugged him closer and cupped his cheek. “Why would you think like that?” Severus sighed as Y/n hugged him. He gave up all the fight as soon as he felt her hands massaging his scalp.
“I was scared. He is so much better, you understand each other better and you were blushing when he spoke to you"
Y/n cupped his face with both her hands, looking deep into his dark eyes. "Severus, my love, my life…I was blushing because he was teasing me how I act like lovesick puppy around you and it's the truth. Yes it's nice that he speaks my language but you understand me better than anyone."
Y/n wiped his tears "Severus, jab tumhe dekhti hu na lagta hai jaise subah subah ki dhoop mil gayi ho par jab tum nahi dikhte to lagta hai jaise main akele thand main khari hu"
His lips involuntarily smiled at her words. He couldn't understand anything she said but the way she looked at him like he was the only person in the corridor right now.
"It sounds beautiful. What does it mean?" He asked brushing her cheek with his thumb.
"It means that when I see you it feels like early morning sunshine and when I don't I feel like I'm standing alone in the cold."
"I'm so sorry lovie. I let my fear win over my trust. You are always so patient with me, so loving. And I always push you away with my insecurity. Honestly it felt like my worst fear came true when I saw you getting close with Aditya." Severus wanted to embrace her but with so many students in the corridor he was only able to hold her hands.
"Sev-"
"No, let me finish. I doubted your love. You are so kind to me and I doubted you. You take care of me and this is how I repay it by doubting you. I'm so sorry my love." Severus almost wrapped his arms around her waist but retracted his hands quickly noticing eyes on them.
His eyes widened when she placed his arms on her waist. "I'm yours, Severus. I love you so much." She confessed peppering his face with kisses, his chuckles encouraging her more to kiss him.
Severus smirked as he tugged her closer to him but Y/n pushed him away. "Wait, you said you were going to make it up to me for doubting me."
"Y/n'' Severus jokingly groaned. "Ok tell me what can I do to win you back. I will do anything."
"Anything?" She teased him by nudging his nose with hers.
"Anything. I promise."
"Get me chocolate ice-cream in a chocolate dipped cone."
Severus let out a relieved sigh. "For you my love. I'll bring 10 ice cream cones.. maybe more."
"I just want one and promise me that before you decide to have the great idea that I don't love you, talk to me before you decide to distance yourself from me."
Severus guiltily kissed the back of her hand. "I'm sorry, love. Come on, one chocolate ice-cream in a chocolate dipped cone is waiting for us."
"One? You won't be having ice cream?"
"No lovie, I'll take a few bites from your icecream." Severus teased her back by bumping his shoulder with her. He felt like his cheeks warm up when she squeezed his hand, falling more in love with her.

Fred was completely, and overwhelmingly, lucky. He knew he was. He knew from the moment that Arlet said 'yes' to being his girlfriend. She was gorgeous, had the prettiest sparkly blue eyes and the plumpest cheeks he'd ever seen. She had bangs when they met in Hogwarts, giving her an extra touch of cuteness.
Arlet arrived with her younger sister to Hogwarts in '93 and because of her late birthday, she was to start as a 5th year with her sister. She was intelligent, very intelligent. She showed everyone when Snape asked her to list the ingredients of a potion they weren't supposed to prepare until the following week. There weren't many students who could say they had bested Severus Snape (not that Arlet would ever boast about that).
Now, Arlet was shy, but her sister Aracely was the stark opposite. Aracely was an avid quidditch fan and because she tried out for the Gryffindor team, Arlet's path inevitably crossed with Fred's. He had the perfect opportunity to get to know her.
It was still a laugh between them and the rest of their friends and family that Arlet had struggled to tell Fred apart from his twin. She made the mistake many times in the beginning. But ultimately, she got the hang of their differences and then suddenly, things had changed. She sought him out and he sought her out. They gravitated towards each other no matter what. It was an unnatural ache to be away from each other. So, the only solution was to...become boyfriend and girlfriend.
And two months into their relationship, Fred was absolutely in love with her. The type of love that made it hard to breathe when she was around yet simultaneously making him feel like he was walking on clouds. It sounded ridiculous — that's what his brother told him countless times — but Fred insisted that it was an actual feeling. And as soon as it became possible after the war, he asked her to marry him. She didn't think twice about it, much less about the date. Less than a year after their engagement, they were married. And now years later, when things were more than established, there were still things that Fred was coming to find out about his wife. Every day, actually.
Arlet was known for being proper and graceful and just about everything that Fred knew he was not. But he knew a secret that nobody else knew...
"You're a right ole troublemaker like myself," he would tell Arlet in the privacy of their own room. Because every once in a while, when they were alone, she would pull a harmless little joke on him.
Fred suspected that she was getting tips and advice from George.
Arlet giggled each time her joke came to fruit. One time, she left Fred's hair stark blonde.
"Not that I don't appreciate the color, but I really don't fancy the idea about looking remotely like Malfoy," Fred told Arlet very calmly as he admired himself and his blonde strands in the mirror.
Arlet had laughed for hours that night. But in the morning, proper Arlet had returned and helped him get rid of the color and so nobody knew a thing. Nobody knew that Arlet Weasley liked dipping her toes into the prankster life too.
The closest anyone would come to finding that it was when they happened to vacation with their friends and family and on occasion her jokes would last through the morning. What drove things home was Arlet warning Fred that nobody would believe him if he said that she pranked him.
She was a little bit of an evil mastermind. Fred said it many times. He loved it. Spiced things up every once in a while.
He especially liked the adrenaline when they were traveling. Arlet's mother was from Mexico and with that came a lot of vacationing spots in the area. They visited a lot of ranches, countrysides and beaches. Arlet would take advantage of his lack of spanish and trick him into trying the spiciest things ever, or getting him into the stupidest performances when they were in hotels.
Now, Fred loved going to the beach and it wasn't just because he would get to see his darling wife in bikinis or he would get to turn her pranks into his own show. No. He loved the salty smell of the air and the passing vendors with sweet coconuts and fresh fruit and the passing muggle trinkets that always caught his eye. He loved doing all of that with his wife.
And Arlet loved it all too. She loved that her husband loved it all and shared it with her.
They started making it an annual trip, whether it was on their own or with friends and family.
When Arlet wasn't planning on secret, totally evil, pranks against Fred, they would watch the sunset on the beach. They could do anything else in the day but at sunset, they would come back to the beach, sit on the sand, and watch the orangey-red sky as the sun went down the horizon.
"You know, one day, I say we should renew our vows here," Fred said to her one year as they sat on the sand together.
Arlet's laugh was like a sweet melody to him. "Even if I make your life miserable? I have plans to turn your hair purple next week, you know."
"Funny, I had plans to turn yours a bright rainbow next week too," Fred remarked. "We'll see who gets who first but in the meantime, I was very serious."
Arlet still laughed. "You would come all this way to get married again? You're—" But she had stopped when she glanced at him and saw him holding out a ring box to her. Her sparkly blue eyes went wide with shock. "Fred, you're not — you already gave me a ring. You do remember that, right?" She even raised her hand where her wedding band rested.
Fred chuckled. "I promise you that the firework fumes have not given me amnesia. Yet. But we can always do with an upgrade, right?" The shop was doing far better than it was when he first asked Arlet to marry him. He could afford a better ring for her. "So, Arlet Weasley, would you marry me…again?"
A soft smile spread across Arlet's face. "Anywhere, anytime. But it better be with you."
Fred smirked immediately. On the day of their wedding, just a few minutes before she was supposed to marry him, George met her with the rest of her bridesmaids pretending to be him. Arlet had not been amused with their switch-up trick at all. Molly Weasley smacked both of them that day.
"You think I would let my idiot brother marry the most gorgeous woman in the world? I think not. But it did make for a funny trick, right?"
Arlet shoved a hand against his chest. He laughed as he nearly slipped back but when Arlet lunged on him and kissed him, he had all the fuel he needed to laugh through the rest of the night.
The vow renewal announcement spread like wildfire amongst their friends and family. They chose to tell them in that same vacation spot, making it a whole party out on the beach. There were cheers and applause and all the good stuff that usually came with such news. There were plenty of 'why now?' too.
Arlet would put it all on Fred to answer since he was the one who came up with the idea. It was her attempt to make him take care of all the nosey people and free herself. But of course leave it to Fred Weasley to come out with the mushiest things to say when she was being such a bad wife.
"She makes me fall in love with her even more every single day."
"I learn new things about her and I'm a sucker all over again."
"It's like voodoo or something because I swear I wake up loving her and by night time, I love her twice as much."
Fred kept catching Arlet's eye from across the party, letting him know that she was hearing every single word of his. He would wink at her each time. When he was free, Arlet approached him with two tequila shots.
"You want to party with me, Mr. Weasley?" She offered him one of the shot glasses
"Oh, I don't know, my wife might get a little mad…" Fred said, taking the shot glass.
"Mmm…" Arlet hummed and leaned up on her toes, brushing her lips over his, "We can keep it a secret…"
It wasn't always that Arlet was that bold out in public. Fred suspected that it had something to do with the tequila in her hands. She loved tequila.
"Oh honey, you're going to be in big trouble tomorrow," he mused. He wrapped his free arm around her waist.
Arlet chuckled. "I'm not that drunk yet, Fred. Just happy, that's all."
"Oh, well in that case—" Fred drowned the tequila shot and shook his head. Arlet laughed louder. "Where's the next one?"
Arlet was happy to show him, after she drank her own shot. After that, it was a frenzy of celebrations and drinking. They danced together, shared kisses here and there, and the touches as if they were a newly engaged couple. It was true what Fred said. He always loved his wife twice as more by nighttime and tonight was no exception.
He remembered being so hyped up on tequila that even as they were leaving the beach and coming back to their hotel, they were still dancing. They danced in the lobby, Arlet a full giggly mess, and all the way up to their room.
Inside, they were a tangled mess of kisses and touches. Clothes were thrown every which way. There was a series of 'I love you's' exchanged between them, moans and names yelled out. But, as drunk as they had seemed to the others, the following morning they both remembered exactly what their night had looked like.
Arlet felt her husband's strong arms wrapped around her bare body under the sheets when she woke up. Soon, she felt his soft kisses on her neck.
"Buenos días," Fred whispered in her ear.
"Mm, nice Spanish," she mumbled, refusing to open her eyes just yet.
"Well, you made me speak in a whole new language last night," Fred remarked. He planted a kiss on her cheek.
Even though Arlet knew it was impossible, she felt her whole body heating up like it was summer. She opened her eyes and tilted her head up to meet Fred's eyes. "Hey…"
He smiled down at her. "Hi."
"We have to leave today, don't we?"
"Yes…" No sooner had Fred had answered than Arlet let out a groan. He laughed lightly. "Just remember, there's someone waiting for us back home."
With that reminder, Arlet did perk up. She was out of bed before him, and the first one to finish packing as well.
"LET'S GO!" She yelled at him excitedly when they left their room.
Fred laughed as she dragged him away. They had someone waiting for them, after all.
They couldn't possibly get to the Burrow any slower, at least that's how it felt to Arlet. Fred pointed out that they made great time on the sole fact they used the Floo network but alas, she was just too eager to see—
"Where is she?" Arlet's eyes swept over the Weasley's living room frantically. "Oh my goodness! What if they're not home? We told them we'd be back at—
They suddenly heard an excited babble coming from the kitchen and in a few seconds, the babbler herself had come wobbling into the living room — trying to run, it appeared — with two soggy cookies in her hand.
All the franticness washed from Arlet's face. Fred had started laughing when his mother came running in after the 2 year old girl yelling "'Cookies are for dessert, Siena! Give them back to grandma right now!"
Fred brought a hand over his chest. "Ah, it seems like it was just yesterday when I was doing the same thing."
Arlet threw him a look. "That's because you did that last week."
Fred grinned. "Oh, yeah! Siena!" He swept up the two year old into his arms and kissed her bright red hair. "Cookies are most definitely for breakfast!"
Molly reprimanded him on the spot. "Don't encourage her! She stole those cookies when I wasn't looking!"
"How terrible," Fred said with an overly seriousness. Of course he turned away from his mother with Siena in his arms and mumbled to her "That's my girl."
Molly welcomed them back and offered them to stay for lunch, although she warned Fred not to let Siena eat the cookies. She then headed back into the kitchen.
"How could I say no to you?" Fred tickled Siena's stomach, earning the giggles he loved hearing so much.
Siena Weasley was a spitting image of her father and that spelled future trouble…'for those who don't have a fun bone in their bodies' as stated by Fred himself. Arlet had yet to decide if she was worried as well.
"Oh, a troublemaker you'll beee…" Fred cooed at Siena. She had already offered him one of her cookies and then to her mother. "Hey Arly?"
Arlet had started gathering Siena's toys off the ground to alleviate some of the work for Molly. "Yeah?"
"I was just thinking…you're lucky I'm your baby's father."
Arlet paused, then shot her husband a deadpanning look. "Seriously?"
"Aha."
"And why is that?"
"Well, first of all, look at us," Fred turned so Arlet could see him and Siena together. "We're adorable."
Arlet shook her head. "You're something alright."
"And because you know that Siena will be anything but boring!"
At that, Arlet has to laugh. "That's what I'm afraid of, honestly." She walked over to the two, kissing Siena's forehead. "She's got your adventurous bug. My poor baby."
Siena leaned towards her mother and so Arlet took her into her arms. "Hi there, mi nena preciosa!" Siena responded to her mother with squeals. "Tan bonita y traviesa!"
Fred watched as Arlet continued to speak to their daughter in Spanish, a smile growing on his face. Words couldn't describe what he felt seeing his girls in their blissful bubble. He was so lucky, he knew it.

heya! i just finished reading "mistaken" and im absolutely in love with your writing. i saw that your request was open so im here!!
i rlly liked mistaken so i was thinking if i could request another one shot for it but this time the marauders decided to use the reader in one of their pranks ? it would be consensual ofc, think of it as a way for james to make it up to the reader for the confusion (by showing them how fun their little pranks are)
sirius does something openly bad towards snape and when snape tries to run after him he "accidentally" thought the reader was sirius.
thank you so much!
ohmygee thank you so much!! i love this idea! thank you for being my first ever request!! i really hope this is something you were looking for, i had a lot of fun writing it!! i hope everyone enjoys a small continuation of MISTAKEN !!!

you weren't exactly sure how you got here.
one moment, you'd been sitting in history of magic, writing the notes and trying to pay attention to whatever professor binns was droning on about, and then suddenly peter pettigrew is running into your classroom, demanding that mcgonnagall needed to see you at once.
however, standing in an empty classroom with now three of the marauders staring at you, it was obvious that wasn't the case.
you let out a huff at their antics, ready to storm away and return to the class you really weren't that interested in, but instead you ended up face to face with james potter.
you'd been avoiding thinking about the stunt he pulled at breakfast, but now that he was staring at you with that half-lidded smirk and his arm resting on the door frame and his hair over his eyes-
"going somewhere?" he cut you off from your thoughts, running a hand through said messy hair before quickly sliding onto one of the empty desks. you cleared your throat and crossed your arms.
"can i ask about what was so important that you four decided to drag me out of class for?" you were hyper aware of the way james was staring at you, leaned forward with his forearms on his thighs and squinting at you.
you still had his glasses.
"you, dear mini me, are you going to help us prank silly old snivvy."
now that you had a moment to think about it, you and sirius did look similar. the way you'd styled your hair this morning was exactly how he'd done his own, and the fact that you'd forgotten your tie and he never wore his.
"you mean severus?" all four of them groaned.
"oh come on," you refused to turn at the sound of james calling you name. "don't tell me that you're friends with him to."
well, you weren't. you stayed quiet.
"look, all you have to do is sit still and look pretty, from the back." remus smacked sirius in the back of the head. "what? no, i meant look like me, moony!"
you rolled your eyes.
that was how you ended up in this situation, sitting at one of the tables in the library with a book covering your face and back towards the entrance of the room. you weren't exactly sure how you'd feel about all of it, but it did give you the chance to stand a bit closer to james.
james sat on his chair, sitting with his feet up on the table and his eyes on you. you'd given his glasses back as you walked to the library, meaning now he wouldn't have to squint to admire you.
"sirius is laughing at you," james spoke in a hushed tone, a snitch pressed between his fingers before he let his feet fall to the ground and scooted closer to you.
everything gave you a rush, being next to james, being included, godric you might pass out.
you heard the bucket before anything else. sirius had thought it funny to fill a bucket with shampoo and conditioner, as he walked through the halls, and lead him to the library where a final bucket of water would pour, to fix his "ghastly greasy" hair.
you held in a laugh as james leaned in, a half-smile on his face.
"you've done it this time, black!"
"what, you've never heard of a shower, snivellus?" james called, leaning back on his chair. you'd all expected him to use a charm or spell, so you'd already put up a few protection charms.
unfortunately, severus was not against throwing down the wands and fighting old school style.
he told you this much when he grabbed a fistful of your hair and dragged you backwards, down onto the floor with a crash sounding throughout the library.
james was on his feet in an instant.
"shit, you okay?" you nodded your head, leaning back and catching a glimpse of severus snape's terrified face. madam pince chewing him out for starting fights and dragging water throughout the library.
you glanced back to james and neither of you could contain your laughter.

omg those AI images of Alan and your OC are so cool! How do you create them? Is there a particular AI image generator you recommend and do you have any tips?
Hey, first of all thank you. I just found it today too. It’s called bing image creator. I had to sign up with my Microsoft account and then had like 15 Lightning bolts which apparently generates your images faster. But after you have used all of them you can still generate some it only takes longer. Your “boosts” reset after a week.
This ai is powered by Dall e 3. I don’t know about you guys but when I use open AI to generate pictures I only can use Dall e 1 so I’m really happy that I found this today.
So for the prompts for Snape I just said that it should give me an image of Alan rickman as Severus Snape and it worked. Bevor I just said Snape and it looked nothing like Alan so maybe it used the book as reference. After that I described the oc and the background. I found the more in detail you say what you want to see the better the images.
For the one with Alan and the girl in the field I tried using Alan rickman as colonel Brandon (that’s how I imagine him in my fic “The new lady at Downton Abbey”) but it did not work quite as right after that I put Alan rickman in the style of 1915 and that worked better. So basically trial and error.
Sometimes when I put a prompt with many celebrities it said that I am violating the guidelines. Haven’t read them so I’m a bit confused there but after deleting some of my sentence it worked fine again. Also I tried to do some Pedro pascal images it didn’t work.
That’s what I found out today. Have fun trying it yourself;)
For those that would like to read the fic:

The Surprise of a Lifetime
Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Snape x Professor Reader
Word Count: 784
Warnings: Slightly suggestive content
Masterlists
Ever since Snape had told you his birth date when you two had begun dating, you had placed a reminder of it in the back of your mind, carefully filed away for when the time came. That special day of his was soon approaching now and you had a devilish surprise planned for him.
You dare not mention his birthday, it’s better he thinks you have forgotten as you want him to have the surprise of a lifetime. Snape keeps dropping hints that something is coming up but you continue to play dumb. You can tell he is beginning to get pissed off at you, deciding to ignore his snappy attitude you continue with your planning. You know it’ll be worth it in the end, perhaps he will even rail you as thanks.
“Do you have any plans for tomorrow?” Snape nonchalantly asks the evening before his birthday.
“Not really. Why do you ask?” you respond, not looking at him as you begin tidying up the coffee table of your drinks from the night.
“Nothing,” Snape mumbles under his breath, trying to hide his disappointment. “I just figured we could go out on a date or something.”
“I’m sorry, Sev. We both have a lot of work to do tomorrow. The closest thing to a date we will get will be us cozying up on the couch grading papers together,” you say leaning down to give him a kiss on his forehead.
“I suppose that will do. I’m really tired (Y/N), I’m going to head to my chambers to go to bed. Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Snape says in a quiet voice, his head held low, as he exits your chambers.
Sighing to yourself and feeling terribly bad about upsetting him, you finish up your nightly chores before heading to bed yourself.
~~~
The last class of the day, double potions with the Slytherins and the Gryffindors, Snape’s least favorite brats to teach solely because their rivalries tend to transcend classroom borders and there are often petty fights and arguments between students that occur.
Mid-class there is a loud knock on his classroom door. Rolling his eyes he yells for them to come in, he is surprised to see professor (Y/L/N) strut in, their hands behind their back.
“Do tell me, why are you interrupting my class, Professor (Y/L/N)?” Snape sneers causing his students to go dead silent.
“Well, Professor Snape,” you say slowly, emphasizing his proper title and name, “I have something for you.” You remove your hands from behind your back to reveal a small birthday cake and a balloon with ‘Happy Birthday!’ written on it. “Happy Birthday, Severus!” you cheerfully shout.
Snape’s students stare in awe at what is unfolding before their eyes and several have their mouths open in a silent gasp of confusion.
“Y- you remembered? You actually remembered my birthday?” Snape stutters, his eyes brimming with tears which he quickly wipes away.
“Of course, I remembered, Sev! How could I forget my wonderful partner’s birthday? I love you!” You say placing the cake on his desk and tying the balloon to his chair before placing a quick kiss on his cheek.
Snape’s hand rests on his face and lingers for a moment where you kissed him before dropping back down to his side. “You love me? Are you sure?” he asks in a concerned whisper, his eyebrows furred together in thought, his eyes darting back and forth across the classroom skimming over the heads of his students in a panic. He is sure they will spread rumors about this encounter as soon as their class is over and he is worried about what they might say.
Placing your hands on Snape’s elbows to gather his attention you nod. Snape’s eyes widen and he takes a deep breath.
“I love you too, (Y/N). Thank you for my birthday gift and surprise.” Snape says quietly to you before looking back up at his class to see their dumbfounded expressions at what they have just witnessed. “Class is dismissed, tell anyone what you saw here today and I will have you scrubbing my cauldrons clean by hand for the rest of the year. Understood?” he snarls.
The students glance around at each other before nodding and gathering their things, practically fighting each other to get out of the door.
“That was a little harsh don’t you think?” you tease as the last students exit the classroom.
Snape takes one look at you before he entangles his hands in your hair, hovering his lips inches from yours. “I think it's better they leave now so they don’t see what I’m about to do to you,” he growls before kissing you roughly.
Daylight- A Severus Snape fan fic
Previous chapters: 1   2   3
Ch 4
The weeks leading up to Halloween were filled with excitement for both the students and faculty except Severus who seemed to be dreading the ball. Sinead was spending hours planning the ball. When she wasn’t teaching, her apprentices were coming to the castle to work with her in her study so she could plan the ball. Albus was in a pleasant mood humming and the free elf Dobby who was helping plan the menu for the feast was in out and out of the rooms bringing dishes to try. Minerva and Filius offered to help decorate the Great Hall and some hallways freeing up some of Sinead’s time. Sinead’s plans were full scale and Dumbledore was impressed with the student drawings and costumes he had seen at the workshops he had walked through. Each costume workshop was full and Sinead held an information session that almost every student attended.
Severus was walking the halls when he heard a group of girls whispering about surprise guests at the ball he was about to start deducting points when he spotted Maggie and Caleb entering the castle. He didn’t have the patience to deal with the woman and quickly disappeared before they saw him. Maggie glanced around the hallways Caleb holding her hand tight. An Auror who worked with Tonks had walked them up from Hogsmeade before they needed to return to their post.
“Mommy, I love it. I want to go to school here.” He said looking around.
“Let’s see if I remember the way…”  Maggie stopped and looked around. She noticed a short man that she assumed must be a Professor. “Hello, sorry to bother you. I’m looking for Sinead O’Neil. I’m her friend Maggie.”  The man nodded and smiled a bit.
“I’m Professor Flitwick.”
“You teach Charms.”  Caleb said excitedly as the man grinned.
“You must be Caleb. Sinead speaks about you all of the time. I’ll show you to her office. Hogwarts can be difficult to navigate.”  The professor lead the way chatting about the castle and pointing things out. Caleb was in awe at the decorations and Maggie smiled knowing her friend must have loved setting this up for the students. “Well, this is the hallway to her classroom. I have a lesson I need to be teach in about 10 minutes or I would bring you to the door. It is the third door on the left. I sent my patronus along. It was nice to finally meet both of you and I hope to see you at the ball.”  With that he hurried off.
“Mommy, let’s go!” Caleb said running down the hall mixing in with the students that were now in the hallway.
“Caleb!” Maggie started to panic not seeing her son. “Caleb!”  Maggie tried to move through the crowd of students to see Caleb scamper into the office without knocking. Maggie made it to the doorway several moments later to see Caleb perched in Sinead’s arms while Sarah and Max worked in the adjacent classroom.
“Mommy, I found her! Auntie, I have missed you so much. Bill has been reading me to every night but he doesn’t make the silly voices like you do.”  Max snickered a bit as Sarah chuckled. “Auntie, we met Professor Flitwick. He was telling us about Hogwarts but he had to teach his class. Can I stay and see you teach a class?”
“Oh, Cal… I taught a class this morning. But I have a tutoring session later if you stay for dinner. Maybe if you stay for dinner in the Great Hall you can stay and help me tutor.”
“Mommy, can I? Can I have a sleep over? I want to sleep over in the castle! I want to sleep over in Gryffindor tower, maybe can I stay with Harry and Ron.”
“Cal, that is a lot to ask. Yes, you can stay for dinner but no to a sleep over and I’m sure Harry and Ron will not want you up in Gryffindor Tower and I’m sure that’s not allowed. Come give me a kiss and a hug, I guess I’ll go and get ready for a date night. Sinead, are you sure-“
“Professor O’Neil, I hear you had some guests.” Professor Dumbledore said from the doorway as Caleb gave his mother a quick kiss and hug.
“Professor Dumbledore, you’re famous!” Caleb said half in awe.
“Maggie, I can walk you out. I’m sure Caleb will enjoy his time here.”
“Excuse me, Sir. I have a question.”  Sinead bit her lip trying not to laugh. “If I come back for the Halloween ball do you think I could maybe have a sleepover in the Gryffindor Tower if Harry and Ron let me?”  Albus chuckled as Maggie frowned a bit.
“I’ll talk to your mother and Harry while I think it over. Enjoy the time in the castle.”
“Thank you, Sir.” Caleb said with a wave. Sinead chuckled as Maggie was ushered out of the door by Albus. Sinead kept Caleb entertained in the classroom for the remainder of the school day. When it was time for dinner Caleb walked up to the Great Hall with Sinead. As they entered the Great Hall Harry and Ron came over.
“Hi, Caleb. Professor Dumbledore said you would be here. Would you like to sit at the Gryffindor table?” Caleb looked to Sinead who nodded.
“Go ahead.” Caleb followed Ron and Harry to the Gryffindor table as Sinead walked to the head table. Sinead chatted with the other professors and they all commented on how quickly Caleb was fitting in at the Gryffindor table.
“If he stays here with his mother. I’m sure he will be sorted into my house.”  Minerva said as Filius frowned.
“Maybe he would be sorted into Ravenclaw.”
“From what I see he could be a Gryffindor but he may be more of a Ravenclaw like his aunt.”  Albus said as Sinead smirked.
“I had almost forgotten you tried on the Sorting hat.”  Minerva said with a chuckle. “I imagine you would have made a decent Gryffindor too.”
The Redbridge Hunts, Chapter 33
Tumblr media
Just under a few weeks later, Chris had organised some interviews for potential teachers, to take over Jeremy’s role. Lucius was involved in the process, too. As well as Loki.
They held it one evening, on Wednesday after school hours. Loki came back in to the school with Bat on his shoulder.
‘Why have you brought Bat?’ Lucius asked with a chuckle as he happily greeted the cat.
‘She’s been alone all day, I didn’t want to leave her alone all evening either. Since Claire is away visiting her sister tonight, I just thought I’d bring her here.’ Loki smiled.
‘BAT!’ Jessica squealed from down the corridor and began running to see her.
Bat leapt away from Lucius and jumped into Jessica’s arms.
Jessica had been working late, marking some practice tests they’d held during school time. So was a few of the other teachers.
‘I’ll keep her company if you want while you guys do the interviews.’ Jessica offered.
‘Are you sure? Was you not about to head home?’ Loki asked.
‘There are still some tests to mark, I was just stretching my legs. Once I’m finished, I’ll put her with Severus if he’s still here.’ Jessica said and then headed off back to her classroom with Bat, without waiting for an answer from Loki, making him chuckle.
‘Chris has the forms for the potential candidates in his office. We’ve got half an hour before they arrive. He already has his eye on the only vampire that’s applied.’ Lucius sighed.
‘Figures.’ Loki rolled his eyes.
While there was only one vampire that applied out of five candidates, they were all qualified enough. Though even Chris agreed after interviewing them all, that one of them stood out the most and seemed that he would be the best fit for the school. His name was Alex and he was a human.
After they dismissed all the candidates apart from Alex, they gave him the good news and asked him to start straight away. Which he agreed to do, happily.
Loki went to go fetch Bat now he was finished. Jessica’s classroom was empty, so he went to Severus’ class, knowing she would be there.
As he reached his room, the door was half open so Loki paused just outside and peeped in a little when he heard Severus talking in an odd voice.
‘You are such a cutie. My girl would absolutely adore you. Yes, she would!’ Severus was cooing over Bat, who was lying on his desk, loving the attention. Severus leaned back to take a picture of Bat, to send it to his partner, then he was back fawning over her.
Loki pushed the door further open and walked in. Severus instantly straightened himself up and his face fell serious.
‘Ah. Come for your cat?’ He asked with a cough.
Loki struggled to resist from laughing. ‘Yes, come to get my cutie cat.’ He smirked.
Severus glared at Loki then abruptly stood up. ‘Well, it’s not a lie, is it?’ He shrugged sheepishly.
Loki decided not to tease him further on it. He walked over and scooped Bat up. ‘Thanks for keeping her company. She does love people.’
‘No problem.’ Severus said quietly, then sat down again once Loki left the room.
Loki headed towards the entrance, he saw Alex just ahead of him who was just leaving, too.
‘I look forward to working with you, Alex.’ Loki called to him.
Alex spun around and smiled. ‘Thanks, you too.’
Bat then did something that Loki had never seen before. She let out the loudest yell Loki had ever heard from her, but it was an angry yell, and she threw herself out of Loki’s arms and bolted towards Alex while hissing and growling at him.
Alex backed up, but Bat launched for his lower legs with her claws out, she kept spitting at him and yowling.
Chris and Lucius came running down the corridor at the noise, Severus rushed out of his class too. They were all just as stunned as Loki was.
‘I’m sorry, she’s never done this before.’ Loki said quickly in a panic as he ran forward and grabbed Bat.
Though Bat wasn’t happy. She squirmed so much that Loki couldn’t keep hold of her, and as soon as she was back on the floor, she launched for Alex yet again. Alex ran out of the school and stumbled down the steps, Bat continued to chase him right across the grounds and she only stopped once he was out the school gates.
Loki, Chris, Lucius and Severus ran out after them.
‘I’ll… see… you tomorrow.’ Alex called out, shaken, as he bolted down the road towards his car.
The vampires just stared in complete shock.
‘Chris... I think you should probably organise a thorough background check on that guy.’ Severus muttered, still staring at Bat.
‘Definitely.’ Chris muttered back.
‘Bat. Are you ok? Are you hurt, ill?’ Loki asked as he picked her up, worried over her.
‘I don’t think she’s hurt, Loki. I’d say she just senses something very off about Alex.’ Lucius hummed.
‘She’s never done that before.’ Loki said as he turned to face them, though Bat was settled again and began licking her paws as she relaxed in her owners’ arms.
‘We’ll look into the guy. If he’s clean, then perhaps worry about if she’s ill or hurting.’ Chris said calmly.
‘Hm.’ Loki huffed, still not convinced there wasn’t something wrong with her.
-
The following day, Lucius went to the school and informed Loki that Alex turned out to be a hunter. He was trying to get close to the vampires of the school, to build up a trust before attacking from the inside.
‘So, Bat’s judgement was right. He was a bad man with bad intentions.’ Claire said and Lucius nodded.
‘Loki, what’s wrong?’ Claire asked, noting how he didn’t seem happy.
‘I just… She’s never attacked someone like that before, or even displayed anger towards someone. If she is like that with bad people, why is she always all over Chris?’
Claire’s face softened and she wrapped her arms around his arm. ‘He did save her, remember? I bet she remembers that.’
Loki grumped in response.
‘I’ve told Chris to re-interview the other candidates, he can decide who he wants to hire.’ Lucius said.
‘What’s happened with Alex?’ Claire asked.
‘He’s been dealt with.’ Was all Lucius said. ‘I’ll see you later, I need to get back to work.’
‘Thanks, dad.’ Loki called to him as he headed out.
Loki sat down on his chair and ran a hand down his face. Claire went over and perched on his lap, he put his arm around her and smiled. ‘Thanks, love. Sorry for being grumpy.’
Claire draped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek. ‘I love you even when you’re being a Mr grumpy gills, don’t worry.’ She teased.
Loki chuckled. ‘I was just really worried about Bat. Never seen her act like that before. She can fairly go into attack mode, I never knew she had it in her.’
‘Well, she obviously just never needed to. At least she’s acting on her instinct and let you all know that Alex was bad. I know the way she is with Chris upsets you, but to a kitten that had been abandoned and was on the brink of death, the person to save her will always have a place in her heart. Whether you agree with that judgement or not.’ Claire said softly.
‘I know. You’re right.’ Loki sighed.
‘I’m always right.’ Claire grinned.
‘Don’t push it.’ Loki smirked at her.
‘Not interrupting, am I?’ Came Chris’ voice, making Loki tense up and his jaw clench.
‘You always are, though that's never stopped you before.’ Loki growled at him.
Chris smirked and walked into the room, hands behind his back. ‘I’ve called the other candidates back for tonight.’
Loki waited, thinking there was more to it. Though Chris never said anything more. ‘Ok… So? You don’t need me to be there, do you?’
‘Not necessarily… but can I borrow Bat?’
Loki’s eyebrows almost shot up off the top of his head. ‘What? No! You’re not using my cat.’
‘She clearly has a good sense of who’s good and who’s not. Wouldn’t you rather a new teacher working here had her approval?’ Chris asked, folding his arms over his chest.
‘Well, of course. Though I don’t want to stress her out more.’ Loki argued.
‘I promise, if she acts the same way with any of the other candidate, I will chuck them out instantly. I’ll even take her back to you after we’re done, to save you coming back in.’ Chris said calmly.
Loki was speechless, he looked at Claire, who shrugged.
‘I mean… I don’t think it would be a bad thing to let Bat meet the others, to make sure there’s not another hunter trying to get in.’ Claire said softly.
Loki growled a little and glared at Chris. ‘No… it’s not happening.’
-
That evening, the first candidate to return walked into Chris’ office in the evening and raised an eyebrow upon seeing a black cat sitting on Chris’ desk, with seemingly judging eyes.
‘What’s with the cat?’ He asked with a chuckle and leaned over to pet her, Bat gave an appreciative purr, but kept professional.
‘She’s my assistant’ Bat let out a displeased yell. ‘I mean, my… deputy head for the day.’ Chris chuckled a little.
Bat sat a little prouder, looking as pleased as a cat could.
‘Ok…’ The guy trailed off, slightly confused as he sat down.
The interviews with the four candidates went well. Bat didn’t have a bad reaction to any of them, which Chris was relieved about, he wasn’t really in the mood to fight with his little brother tonight. While the candidates waited outside, Chris put their forms out on front of Bat.
‘I like them all. Who do you think is best?’ He asked and folded his arms over his chest.
Bat looked at the forms with the little profile pictures of each one in the top corner. She took a moment before putting her paw on the third guy, Spencer. Chris picked up his paper and glanced over it with a hum.
‘What did you think of this one? He’s the only vampire. Unless my senses are mistaken, the other three are humans. Right?’ Chris asked.
Bat chirped her answer, which he figured meant yes. Though she walked over to Chris and batted at the form in his hands again.
He sighed and looked at Bat, she stared back at him, neither of them blinked or broke eye contact for a minute. Then Chris sighed again and nodded. ‘Alright. I’ll offer Spencer the job.’ He said with a little reluctance.
Bat let out a happy chirp and brushed her head against him. Chris rolled his eyes but had a little smile as he petted her.
When he popped out of his office to see the four candidates, Bat was perched on his shoulder.
‘Thank you all for coming back for another interview. It was difficult to choose between you all, as you all have great skills and experience for this school. However, Spencer, I’d like to offer you the job.’ Chris put on a smile and walked over to shake his hand, deliberately leaving out the part that he’d only gotten the job because of a cat deciding.
‘Thank you very much, Sir. I really appreciate it.’ Spencer grinned happily.
When the candidates and Spencer left, Chris took Bat straight home. To avoid Loki’s wrath.
‘Well, did you pick one?’ Loki asked when he answered the door.
‘Yes. Gone with Spencer, the one from down South. He’s starting in a week.’ Chris said as he handed Bat over to Loki.
Loki raised an eyebrow. ‘Really? Well, good choice.’
‘You went with a human? I thought you’d have picked the vampire.’ Claire said from behind Loki as she wandered through.
Chris' jaw clenched a little in annoyance. ‘Let’s just say, a cat’s sense is even better than a vampire’s sense. So sometimes it’s wise to go with your head instead of the heart.’
Loki couldn’t believe his ears. ‘Are you telling me that you let Bat pick?’
Chris shrugged in response, turned on his heels and began making his way down the path without another word.
Loki and Claire looked at Bat, who had made herself comfy in Loki’s arms. She looked up at them both and chirped at them. Loki and Claire then looked at each other, in slight disbelief, before closing the door.
‘And you must come straight back, you understand that?’  ‘Yes Professor,’ Daisy and Sirius said in unison.  ‘And you know exactly where you are going?’ she said.  ‘Yes Professor,’ they repeated.  ‘Right,’ Professor McGonagall said her beady eyes watching them both. She was sitting behind her desk but stood as she finished speaking. Then she gestured to the large fireplace in her office and walked towards it, her students close behind. She gestured for them to step inside which they did, Sirius taking a handful of floo powder as he went.  ‘Just one more thing,’ McGonagall said, ‘please don’t do anything silly. Daisy, I’m trusting you.’ ‘Of course Professor,’ Daisy said sheepishly feeling Sirius roll his eyes beside her. McGonagall nodded throwing them a tight smile before Sirius dropped the powder to the floor and said, ‘the Leaky Cauldron.’
Seconds later they were spinning through countless fireplaces, catching glimpses of all the wizarding lives going on throughout the country, until finally they became stationary and the dimly lit main room of the Leaky Cauldron came into focus. As Daisy stepped out there were a few glimpses from people sitting throughout the pub but they were more or less ignored. Sirius stepped out quickly after her, slotting his hand into hers, as they headed for the entrance of Diagon Alley.
It wasn’t too busy in the Alley today. Whenever Daisy had been it had been the summer holidays meaning that most of the street was jam-packed with students who had flocked to it in their downtime as a way to flee their homes and get some much-needed relief from their families.
‘Do you know where we’re going?’ Daisy asked turning to Sirius who was looking at the piece of parchment McGonagall had given him with the solicitor's address on it. ‘Yeah I think so,’ he said as they headed down to the end of the street. Daisy felt a flip-flop in her stomach as Sirius lead her down Knockturn Alley. She’d heard about this place but she’d never been there before. Knockturn Alley wasn’t forbidden as such but the calibre of wizard that frequented the shops down here was definitely not the type she was used to. They were the type Sirius had known. The ones he talked about with disgust. And as she thought about that worry overcame her. If his uncle was associated with a solicitor down here maybe he wasn’t as far from the Black family as Sirius thought.
‘Up here,’ Sirius said as they got to an old rickety metal stairway. Tacked onto the bars of the bannister was a sign that said ‘J.M Thicknesse and Associates first floor’. Sirius started walking up the old staircase and Daisy followed until finally, they were at a door. Sirius pressed the buzzer and waited, looking at Daisy with a small smile. She smiled back and slipped her hand back into his, her thumb caressing the back of his hand gently. Then the door opened and a thin-faced middle-aged man was facing them.
‘Mr Black?’ he said.  ‘That’s me,’ Sirius said. ‘And you are?’ he said eyeing Daisy suspiciously.  ‘My girlfriend,’ Sirius said with a tight smile. The man looked between the pair of them for a moment and then nodded, opening the door fully so they could walk through. He shut it as they entered a long thing hall which was decorated with ancient wallpaper and old oil paintings of various witches and wizards. He led them down it without a word, turning into a room at the end o and gesturing for them to take a seat. There were two rickety chairs in front of the desk that he went to sit behind shuffling through the countless files and papers which were cluttering it. As he rifled through everything Daisy looked around. It was a small room made even smaller by the fact that bookshelves and filing cabinets crammed two walls of it. The man however didn’t seem to notice the chaos of it all as he produced a file and opened it.
‘So you’re Sirius?’ he said looking at Sirius who nodded, leaning forward in his chair, ‘and you’re aware of why you’re here.’ ‘I’ve been named in my uncles will,’ Sirius said.  ‘Yes, yes, awfully sad business all that,’ Thicknesse said. Sirius’ eyes narrowed at the statement, ‘he wasn’t much older than me but alas we never know when our numbers up.’ ‘Right, yeah,’ Sirius said.  ‘Still, it doesn't do well to dwell on things when there's business to attend to,’ he said shuffling his papers, ‘now I don’t suppose you’ve been to many will readings before.’ ‘No,’ Sirius said.  ‘Well, I’m going to read through your uncle’s last will and testament and then we’ll chat about what’ll happen afterwards, okay?’ he said receiving a nod from Sirius, ‘well then. Let’s get to it.’
He popped his glasses on and thumbed through the papers in front of him before clearing his throat. Daisy and Sirius shared a look but turned back to him as he started to speak, ‘I, Marius Perseus Black, resident of the city of London, being of sound mind, not acting under duress or undue influence, and fully understanding the nature and extent of all my property and of this disposition thereof, do hereby make, publish, and declare this document to be my Last Will and Testament.’
He paused for a moment, looking at Sirius and Daisy who were watching him their brows furrowed, and said, ‘with me so far?’  ‘I think so,’ Daisy said. ‘Yeah,’ Sirius said.  ‘Well, let me make it a little simpler,’ he said, ‘first to be dealt with is expenses and taxes. Your uncle already saw to his own funeral and burial and that was already prepaid so there’s nothing to worry about on that front. I bequeath my property both real and personal wherever situated as follows. Sole beneficiary; Sirius Orion Black, my nephew, currently of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Property to be bequeathed; my motorbike, my flat and all its contents as well as the contents of my Gringotts vault in its entirety. I do declare that Sirius is free to do as he likes with these assets once he comes of age. Until then I require my assets to remain under the supervision of J.M. Thicknesse and associates.’ ‘Wait, he’s left everything to me?’ Sirius said dumbfounded.  ‘That’s about the top and bottom of it,’ Thicknesse said, ‘obviously things will have to remain under my care until you come of age but that will give us time for everything to go through probate.’ ‘Right,’ Sirius said stunned.  ‘I know it’s a lot to take in,’ Thicknesse said.  ‘Yeah just a bit,’ Daisy said.  ‘Why me?’ Sirius said, ‘I mean there’s like ten people he could’ve left everything to.’ ‘Lineage isn’t everything Mr Black,’ Thicknesse said placing the papers down on the desk. Sirius continued to look confused. Thicknesse interlaced his hands in front of him and leaned in, ‘I know this is a lot to take in and it may not make a lot of sense right now. But I’ve known your uncle for some time now. And whilst you may not have been close I can assure you that he saw the best of the Blacks in you.’ ‘You mean I’m the only one that’s not an outright idiot?’ Sirius said earning a small smile from Daisy and Thicknesse.  ‘That’s not for me to comment on,’ Thicknesse said, ‘but there's a reason he chose you. A reason he bestowed you with these assets.’
As Thicknesse leaned back Daisy slipped her hand into his and squeezed it earning a smile from Sirius. Thicknesse relaxed in his chair and took off his glasses before he said, ‘so shall we talk about your new assets?’
✵✵✵
‘And the bathroom is just through here,’ Thicknesse said gesturing through the french doors that led from the living room to the bedroom, ‘now the bike will take a little longer for me to arrange. It’s currently in a storage facility and it’ll take a few days to transfer it to your name, but seeing as you cannot ride it yet, I don’t suppose there’s much harm in it.’
‘No, I guess not,’ Sirius said as he ran his fingers across the dusty table that stood behind the couch. They were at his uncle’s flat. It was a small thing, one large room seemingly separated into three pieces. The main chunk of it was the living room which held a couch and tables as well as an old desk and some rickety old bookshelves. Attached to that, in a somewhat open design was a tiny kitchen that barely seemed to be able to fit two people in at once. And separated by double doors was a bedroom which held a large four-poster bed and an ornate wardrobe.
Daisy meandered through the room taking in every inch of it until she was by Sirius’ side. After meeting with Thicknesse, they’d gone back to Hogwarts and explained to McGonagall the long and short of it. And to their surprise, she had agreed to the terms that Thicknesse was suggesting, that she and Sirius be allowed to go and see the apartment themselves and sort through any items they may or may not want. Anything they decided against keeping would be sold on with the money going back to Sirius though Daisy was sure a tidy percentage would make its way into the solicitors' pockets. So, a couple of weeks later they’d travelled to Thicknesse’s office once more and he had used his floo network to take them to the apartment.
‘So, I don’t think there’s much else to tell you,’ Thicknesse said slipping his hands in his pockets, ‘you’ve got the day to sort through everything. I suppose you’ll want to keep the basics cutlery, furniture etc it’s just the personals that you’ll have to go through so it won’t take too long.’ ‘And what do we do with the other stuff?’ Daisy asked. ‘Bundle it into those boxes and I’ll come back in the morning to collect,’ he said, ‘I’ll keep your house mistress up to date with any progress as it's all very boring.’ ‘I’m sure Minnie will love that,’ Sirius smirked.  ‘Yes well,’ Thicknesse said clearing his throat, ‘I’ll leave you two to it. Just floo yourself back when you’re done. I’ve made sure the network is hooked up to Hogwarts so there shouldn’t be any issues.’ ‘Right, thanks,’ Sirius said walking him towards the fireplace. Thicknesse stopped just short of it and paused, reaching into his pocket and producing a set of keys, ‘you’ll be needing these.’  Thanks,’ Sirius said taking it from him.  ‘I’ll be in touch,’ he replied and then he stepped into the fireplace and dropped a handful of powder into it and disappeared into green flames. Daisy watched as the flames burned and slowed down revealing the now empty space he had habituated. Sirius turned and smiled at her, ‘let’s see what we’re working with shall we?’
They worked for a good few hours in that small apartment. Thicknesse had been right. Most of the stuff they needed to keep but the personals needed going through. Whilst Daisy busied herself with the bedroom Sirius stuck to the living room. She figured it would be easier for her to go through clothing and toiletries than things that might actually hold some sentimental value. She worked hard and by the time the room was complete, it looked quite bare. She’d stripped almost all the clothing out, most of it was wizards' wear which she doubted she’d be able to give to any of the boys, and there wasn’t much else in way of trinkets and knick-knacks. She did however snag a couple of nice blankets and pillows that she thought about taking back to school for the clubhouse.
Once she was done she headed out into the living room with the boxes she had packed to find Sirius. He was sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of a coffee table which was jam-packed with stuff he’d decided to keep. A half-full box sat beside him and he was holding a book in his hands. Daisy slid down beside him and put her head on his shoulder, peering down at the book he was leafing through. It was a photo album, mostly portraits of old stoic witches and wizards but as he went on it became more recent more relaxed photographs.
‘Who are they?’ Daisy said pointing at a picture. There was a blonde-haired witch standing by a man with hair just as bright and straight as her own. She recognised one of them from somewhere. ‘My cousin Narcissa,’ he said ‘Do they go to school with us? I feel like I know them,’ she said.  ‘You’ll know him,’ Sirius said thumbing over the picture of the blonde man, ‘can’t help but get his ugly mug in the paper. A right-hand man to the minister it seems.’ ‘I take it he’s not quite the upstanding citizen he appears to be?’ Daisy said leaning up off him.  ‘I can’t fault him,’ Sirius shrugged, ‘but that’s because I haven’t spent any time with him on principle. In fact, this is from their engagement party which I refused to go to.’ ‘How do you know its from then?’ Daisy asked curiously.  ‘Because my mother couldn’t help but show me all the perfect cousins I have. Just had to boast about how wonderful it was that Cissy and Bella had found such extraordinary wizards.’  ‘Bella?’  ‘My other cousin,’ Sirius said curling his lip in disgust. He flipped through a couple of pages and showed a picture of them. It was a large group, all kids. Narcissa was there, hair pin-straight, standing looking at the camera with a pouted smile.
‘A maniac who’s more in love with what’s his face than my mother despite the fact she’s just got hitched,’ he said pointing to the witch standing beside Narcissa who was looking at her from the page with bedraggled black locks and an eerie self-satisfied smirk.  ‘Who’s the other girl?’ she asked. ‘Andromeda,’ Sirius said with a soft smile, ‘about the only one worth anything.’ ‘She’s not…’ Daisy started realising mid-sentence that she didn’t know how to phrase what she wanted to ask. ‘What stark raving loony?’ Sirius chuckled, ‘no. She got out. Well, not so much left as forced out.’ ‘Why?’ Daisy asked. ‘She married a muggleborn,’ Sirius said looking at her with sad eyes. Daisy felt a small pit form in her stomach, ‘oh.’ ‘Did she want to leave?’ Daisy asked quietly. ‘As much as I  did? I don’t think so. I don’t think she hated them but she wasn’t all gung ho on blood status and what have you. She was actually alright to hang out with…about the only one of them I could stand,’ he said quietly.  ‘Do you miss her?’ Daisy asked.  ‘A bit,’ he shrugged, ‘never really thought about her much. She’s got a sprog and her and Ted are happy. Guess I’d rather her be happy than inside the nuthouse with me.’ ‘Well you’re out now,’ Daisy said. Sirius nodded. Her gaze fell on Andromeda for a moment. She looked like a mix of her sisters. Except there was no smile on her face. Like Sirius, she wore a neutral expression. One that couldn’t be determined as feeling either way about being on parade in front of the camera. But as Daisy peered deeper she could see the look in their eyes. The pair of them. Trapped. Both in the picture and in the family. Luckily, one was forever the other not. Her eyes moved off Andromeda until she noticed her hand was on the shoulder of a boy. He had familiar grey eyes and wavy brown hair but he was too young to be Sirius.
‘Is that Regulus?’ she asked. Sirius nodded. He was by far the youngest in the picture. He was beaming a smile, his two front teeth missing, as he stood front and centre as if oblivious to the others behind him. Out of all of them, he seemed to be the only one showing his true feelings. Sadness struck Daisy. Not only that the four of them could be no more than thirteen in this picture but all of them seemed aware of the facade they were meant to be showing. Stoic and proper. But sad as she thought about pictures she had of her and her sisters. Her relationship with her sisters wasn’t perfect, she’d never claim that, but there wasn’t a photo of them together where they weren’t smiling. Another wave of sadness hit her as she looked at Regulus once more. That cheeky grin and the smiley young boy were something she had never seen before. Since he had come to Hogwarts he had always been a moody teenager. Reserved and cold. The opposite of his brother or perhaps Hogwarts was the only place Sirius didn’t have to wear that mask. She ached for them all.
‘You okay Dais?’ Sirius said after a moment. He had been watching her quietly, watching as the sadness danced across her features. ‘Yeah,’ she said.  ‘You sure?’ he said raising an eyebrow. Daisy rolled her eyes. ‘It’s silly,’ she said.  ‘Try me,’ Sirius said closing the book and placing it on the coffee table.  ‘I just….don’t you miss them?’ she said. ‘What my cousins?’ he snorted, ‘hardly.’ ‘No that’s not what I mean,’ she said pulling away from him and moving to kneel beside him. Sirius leaned against the couch, turning to look at her.
‘They’re your family Sirius,’ she said, ‘I mean surely somewhere you’ve gotta miss them. I mean…even on her worst day. Even when she’s driven me up the wall or I’ve made her face turn purple from winding Vermin up I would never give up Tuney. And looking at that book it's like you don't even care.’ ‘What you’re getting mad at me because I don’t love some muggle-born-hating scum?!’ he scoffed turning his head away from her. ‘No I just,’ she said biting her lip and placing her hand on his bicep, ‘that’s not what I meant…I just don't want you pretending you don't care because of what they're like. It’s okay you know…if you do…even a little bit.’ ‘Dais,’ he said turning to look at her, ‘I don’t miss them. Cissy and Bella are horrible people. And Andromeda? Like I said I’m happy she’s happy in her own world. Just because we’re family doesn’t mean I’d want to tear her away from that.’ ‘And Regulus?’ she said nervously. ‘If it was going to be anyone I’d miss him,’ Sirius said truthfully. His eyes closed for a moment before he peered back at her and continued, ‘he’s my little brother and sure I love him. But you gotta understand my life wasn’t like yours. Me and Regulus weren’t like you and Lily. Hell, we even make you and Tuney look like best friends.’ ‘Now that takes some doing,’ she giggled making Sirius smirk as he carried on, ‘the only feeling I have for him is that I failed. I tried so hard to steer him out of that narrative but it was no use…’ ‘You tried your best,’ she said.  ‘Yeah but I could’ve done more. The truth is I gave up on him…because I’d found my own family. When you talk about missing them? It doesn’t resonate. I don’t miss them like you’d miss Lily or Petunia. But if it were James? Rem? Pete? I’d miss them like that…they’re my brothers, Dais.’
Daisy nodded. Sirius dropped his gaze for a moment, fiddling with his fingers before he placed a hand on her knee and looked up at her with a sheepish smile, ‘and you Dais. You’re my family.’ ‘You’re mine too,’ she said leaning in so their heads were touching.  ‘I mean it y’know,’ he whispered, closing his eyes.  ‘I know,’ she said quietly. Sirius shook his head and pulled back, Daisy watched him carefully. ‘I’m not just saying it…’ he said with a little sigh, ‘I know we love each other and everything…and I know we’ve got the boys and Lil and whatever. I know that we’re part of a family. But for me…you’re it. You’re my family. Wherever you go whatever you want I’m right there behind you…you’re my home.’ ‘Sirius,’ Daisy said in barely more than a whisper as tears glinted off her lower lid. Her heart was swelling with happiness. She loved Sirius. With all of her heart and she knew he loved her too but this felt like something else. Something more. She felt something burning deep within her forcing an idea to the surface. ‘You don’t have to say it back,’ he chuckled shakily, ‘I won’t break if you don’t profess your undying love for me.’
Daisy didn’t let him finish. Instead, she fell towards him and wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him in for a heartfelt tender kiss. Sirius kissed her back, pulling her onto his lap for a moment as they made out before the pair of them pulled back breathlessly.
‘I guess that’s your answer,’ he said with a small chuckle as they parted.  ‘Yeah,’ she chuckled, moving a strand of hair out of his eyes, ‘and I feel the same too.’ ‘Good to know,’ he said, his fingers idly dancing against her hips as he watched her.  ‘And that being said there’s something I want and I hope you want it too,’ she said.  ‘Anything,’ Sirius said. ‘Good,’ Daisy said, ‘because I’m ready.’ ‘Ready?’ Sirius asked watching as she stared at him pointedly, ‘oh ready.’ ‘Yeah, that’s okay, right? I mean I know I said I wanted to wait and stuff but what you said made me realise. I want everything with you. The whole of our lives. What am I waiting for?’ she said. ‘If you’re sure,’ Sirius said. Daisy nodded. ‘Yeah,’ she said kissing him quickly. And again. And again, ‘in fact, I do believe we have a whole flat to ourselves right now.’ ‘What now?’ Sirius said. ‘Like I said why wait?’ she giggled as she peppered kisses along his jaw before pulling back a little, ‘unless your uncle like died in that bed then definitely not.’ ‘I think we’re good,’ Sirius chuckled capturing her lips once more.
This kiss was slower than the last but just as loving. Sirius’ hands held onto her hips, his thumbs tracing gently against her skin. Daisy’s hands knotted in his hair enjoying herself as they made out for god knows how long. She could feel that spark from before inside her bubbling away gently. She couldn’t believe how scared she’d been of this. Eventually, she pulled away. Sirius watched her his eyes the darkest grey ever seen.
‘You alright?’ he asked. Daisy nodded and pulled back, hoisting herself up until she was standing and offering a hand for him which he took quickly following her movements. She didn’t say anything, instead, she led him through the living room to the bedroom. Once they were standing beside the bed she moved back into him, her hands around her neck as she kissed him. Then she pulled back. Sirius watched in awe as she pulled her shirt off over her head, marvelling at every inch of her. Daisy dropped her gaze, a little embarrassed before she unbuttoned her jeans and kicked them aside pushing herself back onto the bed. Sirius was following her movements in a shot. He flung his t-shirt off and dropped his trousers faster than he ever had before climbing onto the bed until he was hovering over her.
‘Sirius?’ she said quietly. ‘Yeah?’ ‘Kiss me,’ she said. It wasn’t a question. It was an order. And it was one Sirius couldn't ignore. It was hard to ignore the switch that had been flicked on between the living room and the bed. Everything seemed to be much faster now. Not with speed but with want. Sirius’ lips coveted every inch of her neck and chest. Daisy could feel herself becoming slicker by the second. Especially as she could now feel him, hard against her thigh. As Sirius unclasped her bra and pulled it off replacing where the fabric had covered with his mouth Daisy reached her hand down and palm him through the thin fabric of his boxers.
‘Dais,’ he groaned as she did making a tingle run through her.  ‘Is that okay?’ she asked as he pulled up to look at her. ‘Very,’ he said capturing her lips as she carried on. The more responsive he was the braver she got until she was pushing his boxer shorts down. Sirius moved back so he could remove them and Daisy moved to do the same with hers. He was back in a flash, kissing her neck, as her hand clasped around him. She teased her thumb across his head, smirking as his breath hitched, allowing the stickiness to coat her hand before she moved it. His hand was cupping her breast gently, his thumb running across her hardened nipple every so often causing that heat in between her legs to get all the stronger.
She moved her hand slowly, building up a steady rhythm as they kissed. Sirius was enjoying the way her dainty hand wrapped around him but as nice as it felt he was acutely aware they were on uneven footing. He wanted to even the playing field so against every urge he was having he pulled back. Daisy looked at him confused.
‘Did I do something wrong?’ she asked. Sirius shook his head. ‘No but I wanna do something,’ he said pulling back and kissing down her body until he was between her thighs.  ‘Pads,’ she moaned as he teased a finger through her folds. ‘You alright?’ he said chuckling as she nodded. He kissed along her thighs until finally, he licked hesitantly. He was nervous. For all his bravado and talk he’d never actually gotten this far with a girl. He’d had it done to him and he knew what he was doing with his hands but he’d never gone to this. He’d never had the interest, why bother if the girl was up for getting him off?
But as he tenderly lapped at her, watching as she squirmed underneath his touch he realised he’d been missing out. It was like nothing he’d ever tasted before but he couldn’t get enough. Daisy was breathing heavier, making little moans every time his tongue hit a new sensitive spot, making him hard as a rock. He rocked his hips against the bed, his cock leaking onto the bed sheets as she writhed underneath him. As his confidence grew he introduced a finger, knowing that at the moment she’d never be able to take him. He worked in rhythm, his tongue spelling words out on her clit as he pumped two fingers gently in and out of her tight pussy.  She was coming undone, her hands knotting in his hair as she moved in rhythm with him. Then he changed tact, sucking on her sensitive bud for just a second.
‘Pads, do that again, Daisy whimpered. She had never felt this good before. She’d enjoyed everything they’d done up to now and she’d touched herself in the past but this. This was otherworldly. As Sirius obliged with her instruction and combined it with his fingers curving up against her she felt a wave crash over her. Her legs trembled around him, toes curling into the mattress as white-hot pleasure ran through her core and out to her extremities as if finding a way out of her body. She was panting heavily now, whimpering as she became tender against his touch, so much so she had to tap him on the shoulder making him pull back. He moved back towards her until they were laying on their sides facing one another
‘Did that feel good?’ he said with a small smile. Daisy nodded still unable to string a sentence together, ‘am I gonna get words or?’ ‘Shut up,’ she giggled pulling him in to kiss her. Her hand slipped between them both, coming back to where she had left off, except now he didn’t want that. He wanted her.  ‘Dais,’ he mumbled, reaching down to stop her. ‘Do you not want me to-’ she said nervously though she stopped as he shook his head. ‘I want you,’ he said, ‘if you’re ready.’
Daisy nodded and pulled him into kiss her as he rolled her onto her back. They stopped for a moment, as Sirius pulled back and lined himself up with her entrance, pumping himself a couple of times. ‘You’re sure?’ he asked. Daisy nodded watching as he eased in gently.  ‘Just go slow,’ she said feeling a slight sting as he did. Sirius nodded and tried to ignore the blissful way she enveloped him. He didn’t want to hurt her. Instead, he inched in slowly though he stopped as he heard her hiss. ‘Dais,’ he said but she shook her head. ‘I’m fine,’ she said. ‘I can stop,’ he said, he would if he had to but he longed that she didn't ask him to.  ‘It’s fine,’ she said, ‘just kiss me.’
Sirius nodded and leaned back towards her kissing her deeply. When he finally bottomed out he didn’t move. He couldn’t believe how incredible she felt around him or how unfair it was that she wasn’t feeling as blissfully happy as he was. ‘Are you sure you want to carry on?’ he asked, her eyes were closed but he could see the glisten of tears underneath her lashes, ‘Dais you’re crying.’ ‘I’m not,’ she sniffled. She wanted this. She wanted him. She just didn’t expect it to hurt so damn much. Even with the warm-up act, he was just so big. ‘You are,’ Sirius said, ‘that’s it I’m stopping.’ ‘No!’ Daisy said opening her eyes and throwing him a weak smile, ‘no it’s fine just go slow okay? I’m sure it’ll get good again.’ ‘Right,’ he said moving his hips just a tad. Daisy took a shaky breath. They watched one another, analysing every flicker of emotion that came across their faces. Sirius couldn’t believe how good it felt and he couldn’t stop himself from moaning softly. That made Daisy smile. It was feeling better now, not like before, but enough that it didn’t hurt.
‘Feels better now,’ she said stroking his cheek softly as if encouraging him. He moved a bit quicker now, that familiar feeling in his lower belly rearing its head. Though it wasn’t complete bliss for her Daisy was enjoying herself. Watching Sirius chase his high was enough. The way his eyes closed when stroked his cheek. Or the way his head hung as he uttered a little moan.
‘Dais, I’m not gonna last much longer,’ he panted looking at her. His grey eyes were almost black with lust. ‘Okay,’ she nodded.  ‘Need to pull out,’ he said though he longed not to. He knew that was too risky though. Daisy’s eyes went a little wide as she realised what he was talking about but then she nodded. As his hips started to falter he pulled back. Just as he pulled out he came, coating her as he fell against her. She ignored the stickiness on her inner thigh as she allowed him to tuck his head into the crook of her neck, running her fingers through his hair as his breathing returned to normal. As he pulled back she swore she saw the hint of a blush on his cheeks as he looked at the mess he’d made.
‘Sorry,’ he said bashfully. ‘It’s okay,’ she said, ‘quick thinking to be honest.’ ‘Yeah, I suppose it’s better than risking it,’ he said pulling back onto his knees, ‘one minute.’
He shuffled off the bed and headed to the bathroom. He brought back some loo roll and cleaned them up before grabbing his boxers and putting them on.
‘Pass us your shirt,’ she said. He bent down and handed it to her. She slipped it on over her head and as she pulled her hair out of the collar she found him standing by the bed something lacy in hand. ‘Your knickers,’ he smirked. ‘Such a gentleman,’ she said yanking them off of him and shimming them on as he climbed into bed beside her. Daisy came to cuddle into his side, her head on his chest. They stayed quiet for a moment. Sirius’ arm was wrapped around her his thumb stroking her arm as she traced shapes on his chest. He glanced at her but her eyes were closed a slight smile on her face
‘Dais,’ he said making her eyelids flutter open, ‘you okay?’ ‘Yeah,’ she said with a small smile as she leaned up to look at him. ‘You sure? Everything was alright?’ he asked. ‘Yes Sirius,’ she said rolling her eyes, ‘it was better than I could have hoped for.’ ‘Babe you had tears in your eyes,’ he said nervously though she waved him off. ‘I know, I know but that wasn’t important. It’s not like you meant to hurt me or anything you were just bigger than I thought,’ she said blushing as Sirius's face broke into a smug smile, ‘oh shut up.’ ‘No, no, continue,’ he chuckled, ‘where were you up to? Biggest and best you’ve ever had right?’ ‘I don’t think it counts when it’s the only one,’ she giggled. ‘Harsh Dais,’ he said, holding his hand on top of his over his heart. ‘Anyway,’ she said rolling her eyes, ‘I mean it. I’m happy this happened.’ ‘Me too,’ he said. ‘I think it was better this way,’ she said earnestly, ‘Lily freaked out before, during and after. At least this way we weren’t all in our heads about it.’ ‘Yeah, I get that,’ he said, ‘Lil alright?’ ‘Yeah,’ she said, ‘I think she just got her expectations up.’ ‘So I’m the best and biggest and a better shag than James Potter? This day is getting better by the second’ Sirius chuckled. ‘I didn’t mean it like that!’ Daisy said smacking him on the chest making him laugh even harder, ‘Sirius don’t you dare tell him that! I swear to god.’ ‘Or what?’  ‘Or we’ll not be doing this again any time soon,’ she said with a smirk which grew wider as Sirius’ face turned into a scowl. ‘Oh that’s harsh Evans, cruel really,’ he said.  ‘Well at least I know I’ve got that in my arsenal now,’ she giggled. Sirius’ eyes narrowed and then he was on top of her, flipping her onto her back as his fingers terrorised her sides making her laugh.
‘Sirius stop!’ she giggled as he carried on tickling, ‘pack it in!’ ‘Take it back,’ he smirked. ‘Sirius!’ ‘Dais,’ he challenged as she laughed, her breathing getting harder and harder by the second until she panted, ‘fine! Now gerroff!’ Sirius stopped and pulled back onto his knees watching as she pushed her hair off her face and sat up opposite him scowling as he smirked at her.  ‘You’re a right git you know that,’ she said trying to hide a smile. ‘A loveable one though,’ he said.  ‘Maybe,’ she said as he leaned down and kissed her. ‘Come on then,’ he said climbing off the bed as they broke apart, ‘Minnie will be out looking for us if we’re not careful.’ ‘We’re lucky she didn’t come looking for us ten minutes ago,’ Daisy giggled as she slinked off the bed and shrugged Sirius’ top off so she could change.  ‘Poor girl would’ve never recovered,’ he smirked.
Once they were back suitably dressed and everything they wanted to get rid of was stacked neatly in its boxes they crammed the stuff they wanted into a remaining box.  ‘Ready?’ Sirius said as Daisy took a spot beside him in the fireplace. ‘Yep,’ she said juggling the box into her other arm so she could slip her hand into his. Sirius dropped the floo powder into the grate and they were off, whizzing through the network until the familiar backdrop of McGonagall’s office came into view.
Though as they stepped out they realised that she wasn’t there. They shared a confused look figuring she’d be waiting for them as she had been last time, eager for every drop of information she could get, but he was nowhere to be seen. Nevertheless, they headed out of her office and  made their way back to Gryffindor tower. However, Daisy couldn’t help but notice the corridors were less crowded than usual on any given weekend.
‘Where is everyone?’ she said ‘I was thinking that,’ Sirius said, ‘it’s not a Hogsmede weekend is it?’  ‘No,’ Daisy said as they climbed the stairs.  ‘Probably too cold to be out. I’m a bit nippy even with my jacket on,’ Sirius said. ‘Maybe,’ Daisy said though her tone was still unsure. They were coming up on the portrait hole now and Daisy noted that they hadn’t seen anyone since McGonagall’s office causing worry to form in her stomach. ‘Mimbulus Mimbletonia,’ Sirius said causing the Fat Lady to swing open.
Sirius allowed Daisy to climb through first and she was no sooner through the hole before Lily was on her, throwing her arms around her sister, her red hair burying Daisy’s face. As she pulled back Daisy saw her sister’s face and the pit of worry grew to a chasm. Her eyes were puffy and bloodshot and her nose was red from sniffling. She noted James beside her, his hand on Lily’s arm as he tried to pull her back.
‘What’s going on?’ Sirius asked. He had taken in the scene quicker than her, not having his vision blurred by Lily’s mane of red hair. As she looked around the common room he could tell something had happened. It was full of students all huddled in different groups though all of them had the same sombre faces as Lily.
‘There’s been an attack,’ James said, ‘in London.’ ‘What kind of attack?’ Daisy said. ‘Death Eaters,’ Remus said appearing at Lily’s side, his hand sympathetically on her shoulder. ‘They’ve killed three muggles in broad daylight,’ Lily sniffled, ‘and a witch, muggle-born and young they said on the radio. I’ve been worried sick.’ ‘Oh Lil,’ Daisy said handing the box to Remus who took it form her graciously so she could hug her sister once more. ‘We said it wasn’t you,’ James said earning a scowl from Lily, ‘but they didn’t name her so.’  ‘I’m fine Lil,’ Daisy said pulling back.  ‘Yeah and anyway I can’t believe you’d think I’d even let them scum get a chance at hurting her,’ Sirius said putting his arm around them both. Daisy smiled at him sympathetically her heart swelling as she watched him trying to comfort her sister.  ‘I know it’s silly,’ Lily said, ‘I just panicked.’ ‘Well, we’re fine. I’m fine,’ she said as Sirius moved away to where the boys, Marlene, Alice and Frank were sitting ‘Right, right, yeah,’ Lily said wrapping her arm around her sister’s waist so they could sit down. James patted the seat beside him and Lily sat down though she didn’t lean into him as she normally would, instead she stayed stuck like glue to Daisy.
‘What else have they said?’ Sirius asked, he was perched on the arm of the couch beside them. ‘Not much,’ Frank said, ‘only that they can’t confirm it’s a specific group of individuals.’ ‘That’s bollocks,’ Sirius said. ‘They were wearing masks,’ Alice said, ‘so they couldn’t be identified.’ ‘But it has to be them,’ Marlene said. ‘How do you know?’ Daisy asked. ‘Because they’ve got a new signature,’ James grumbled, ‘that stupid tattoo they have is burned into the sky right above it.’ ‘They’re getting braver,’ Frank said. ‘Sirius was right,’ Remus said solemnly, ‘there’s a war coming.’
The group fell quiet for a moment after that. Thoughts spun around in Daisy’s brain like a washing machine on a spin cycle. She couldn’t take it all in. In the space of ten minutes, she’d gone from absolute happiness to utter terror. She couldn’t get a grip on it. She wanted to cry. Or scream. Or run back to that flat with Sirius and stay in there forever.
But she couldn’t. And she couldn’t go anywhere with him at the moment because her sister’s hand was still interlaced with hers, white knuckles peeking out from the end of her jumper. Lily noticed her looking and smiled at her, the weakest smile she’d ever received. Daisy smiled back, trying to be strong for her twin, but as Lily turned away she placed her other hand on Sirius’ thigh and heaved a sigh of relief when he placed his own over hers, stroking the back of her hand with his thumb. She could be Lily’s strength. As long as he was hers.
Severus never believed in soulmates or true love, until he met Lily Evans. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. She wasn't cruel like his father or distant and cold like his poor mother. Her auburn hair shined in the sun like an angel that had come down from heaven just to light up his miserable life. She was kind and soft like the flower she was named after. Yes, Severus knew that soulmates were real, and she was none other than his best friend.
That was, until his second year when he laid his eyes on Juliana Potter. Of course, he didn't know she was a Potter. No, if he had known beforehand, he wouldn't have felt this way. The moment his eyes met hers it felt as if he had been struck by lightning. Black eyes met the perfect combination of honey brown with a ring of green that reminded him of springtime buds.
His whole body had a visceral reaction to seeing her. It wasn’t like Lily, he felt butterflies and warmth. No, it was scorching and almost painful with her. For a moment Severus had forgotten all about his wretched life. He forgot about his family and his bullies; all that mattered was her.
Until that damned moment, Professor McGonagall called out her name and everything crashed down around him. At first, he didn’t believe it, perhaps he had misheard or she was not related to him. Life was never fair to Severus and this was another cruel joke to add to his already pathetic existence.
He watched her walk up to the hat looking nervous as any other first year. The similarities started to show as he observed her. She looked exactly like James. Her untamable black hair, the same hazel eyes. She was softer and more delicate than Potter, but the resemblance was uncanny.
Unshockingly, she was sorted into Gryffindor but by then, Severus had stuffed everything he had felt for the girl as deep down as he could. She would be just like her brother. He tried to convince himself that he felt nothing for her. She was just another pain in his life, she wasn’t even that pretty, not compared to Lily.
He knew it was all lies even at such a young age. He also knew this was going to be trouble. Having feelings for a Potter would only end terribly. It did not bode well for the remainder of his schooling.
His predictions had been correct after that fateful day things had only gone downhill. Even at what seemed like rock bottom, he somehow found himself falling deeper and deeper. By the time he reached his final year, he was all alone. Lily had left after he, in a fit of embarrassment and anger, called her a Mudblood. That had been the worst thing he had ever done. He would regret it for the rest of his life. Then, almost having been killed or worse, turned by Remus at the Shrieking Shack thanks to Sirius’ little prank. To this day Severus could still hear the horrid howls and snarls of that animal.
The only thing he had left was The Dark Lord and to become a Death Eater after he graduated. He spent most of his days skulking around the halls, between classes, he waited for nightfall to complete his dark spell designs and potions.
He had heard her before she came into view behind him. She looked every bit of the ethereal goddess from the first moment he saw her. Her eyes met his and he felt his knees go weak. Heat engulfed him like a raging inferno as she came closer. He couldn’t move, only watched in awe at the girl that haunted his dreams for years.
Her hair was in its natural wild state, it hung loosely around her shoulders and down her back. She never wore her school robes or vest, only in the school’s mandated uniform of a simple button-up shirt and wool skirt. The nail in his coffin was those damn sugar quills she was constantly sucking on. She always had one between those perfect soft lips. She grinned, her eyes lit up as she began to circle him. It was unnerving and intriguing to watch her move around him.
He kept his expression neutral and cold as he did with anyone else. He refused to show weakness to her. “Potter, what brings you here? If you are here to taunt me like your brother, I assure you I have no qualms about treating you the same as I do him.” His hand twitched to move under his sleeve where he kept his wand, if she was looking for a fight he was certainly ready.
She only chuckled at his words continuing to circle him like a predator toying with its prey before striking. “Oh, Severus, you truly have such a brilliant mind. Yet, you act like a cornered animal when anyone comes close.” She stopped in front of him, popping the sugar quill from her mouth. Her eyes met his, unwavering from his icy stare that sent most others scurrying away.
“What do you want from me, Potter?” His voice dripped with disdain. The tension rose around the pair; it was almost palpable. He crossed his arms over his chest, sliding his hand into his sleeve the cool ebony wood of his wand brushed against his fingers. He tried not to think too much of her compliment. He felt his heart skip a beat and heat flood his cheeks.
“I want many things from you Severus, but it’s a shame it’ll never be. Besides, I’m sure you’re still brooding over Lily Evans and my brother's rumored engagement.”
His heart sank at the mention of the rumors. Everyone had heard about James’ plan to propose to Lily once they had graduated. He despised the fact that Lily had chosen James over him. “You must find it quite amusing, don’t you? Reveling in my suffering, while you and your brother get everything handed to you on a silver platter.” The familiar feeling of bitterness and resentment he always felt every time he thought of Lily rose in his chest.
She only smiled tapping the sugar quill on her plush lip, before she began to circle him again. “I find it amusing that you tied your whole self-worth to a girl who only saw you as a friend. It’s a shame.”
“Enough.” He sneered, grabbing her arms, pulling her closer, their noses almost touching. “You know nothing of my feelings or my feelings or intentions. But mark my words, Potter, I will not be defined by a failed friendship or your judgments.” His voice turned low as he uttered each word deliberately, he leaned in his aquiline nose brushing against hers. “I am destined for far greater things than you or anyone else could ever imagine.”
Juliana didn’t even blink her hazel eyes, not even reacting to his threatening tone. “I’m very aware you are destined for great things. I only meant that it’s a shame Lily threw you away like trash. I’m not quite sure what she thought would happen when she chose your tormentor over you. In my opinion, you are much better than James.”
His breath caught in his throat at her words. They echoed in his mind, you are much better than James. Her words struck a nerve as he stared into her eyes. His grip on her arms loosened slightly. He searched her eyes for any hint of mockery and deceit. He found none, only understanding and a glimmer of something else hidden deep, that he couldn’t quite place. It felt as if she could see through all the defenses he put up to protect himself. It was terrifying and yet for once he felt like someone truly saw him, past the sneers and cold words.
“Better than James?” His voice cracked his grip on her arm tightening. “Don’t you dare lie to me, Potter.” His eyes bored into hers he could smell her perfume being so close. It smelled comforting and warm, the vanilla and cocoa blending to make an intoxicating scent.
She smiles and nods with a confirming nod, “Yes I think you are much better than James. Perhaps I am biased, but I find you much more fascinating and mysterious than my brother. Such a shame you still are going down a dark path.” She sighs, biting her lip, and takes a step back.
He hadn’t realized how much warmth her body radiated, till it was replaced by the cool castle air. He felt a mixture of relief and disappointment. His thoughts swirled around in his head leaving him utterly confused. Her words echoed in his mind, shaking the foundations he thought were solid. His loyalty to the dark arts wavered ever so slightly.
He took a deep breath, gathered his thoughts, and regained control of his feelings. “The path I choose is not for you to judge.” His voice was steady and terse as he spoke.
He hadn’t missed her biting her lip either. The subtle display of desire lingered at the edge of their interaction. It made his heart pound and awakened feelings he had never felt before he met her.
“What do you want from me?” He asked again, his voice was quiet and full of vulnerability.
“As I said I want many things from you Severus, but it’s not meant to be. I also want you to know while I don’t agree with your…choices I do not judge you for them. I will admit I find the dark arts fascinating but, simply out of curiosity not for harm as you and your ‘friends’ like to explore them.” She air-quoted the word friends with her fingers. Her tongue peeked out between her lips to wet them, her eyes never leaving his.
Severus’ eyes narrowed as he absorbed her words. The complexity of her desires fascinated him and drew him into the mystery of her intentions. The mention of her curiosity about the dark arts intrigued him.
He could feel the growing tension between them as the unspoken desires swirled around them. His hands were still holding her arms. Seeing her red-stained tongue peaking out between her lips sent a shiver down his spine.
“Do you wish to learn from me?” He asked her, his voice tinged with the same vulnerability as before.
He stepped close, closing the gap between them, their bodies almost touching. “What do you seek from this dance we have found ourselves in?”
She smiles glancing at his lips before meeting his gaze. “What a wonderful dance it is, don’t you think? Too bad it must come to an end before it has even started.”
Her answer only frustrated and intrigued Severus. He longed for her to give him clarity. To reveal her desires and intentions openly. Yet, it seemed as if she relished in the ambiguity of their interaction.
A rush of boldness surged through him. His hand slid around her waist to the small of her back. He pulled her into his chest brushing her hair out from her face. Her soft skin under his fingertips felt like heaven.
“Why must it end?” His voice was low and husky when he questioned her. His words were laced with a potent mix of desire and curiosity.
He couldn’t deny how he felt for her anymore. Looking into her honeyed eyes he felt that familiar magnetic pull, this time it was stronger than ever before. He’d never been this close to her before today. A hunger ignited in the depths of his soul fueled by their proximity and desire.
“Tell me, what is it that you seek from this dance?” He leaned in his voice a breathless whisper, his lips brushed against the shell of her ear. He felt her shiver against his hand on her back. His nose brushed against her hair the smell of her shampoo surrounding him. The air crackled around them with the tension between them.
She leaned back to look him in the eyes. Her lips almost touched his. “Only you, but it is not meant to be.” She looks away pulling his arm from around her and stepping back again.
He instinctively reached to grab her arm, “wait.” He had given her a pleading look. It was a desperate attempt to bridge the gap she insisted on creating between them. His voice betrayed his emotions, the desperation in it obvious to both of them. His hand dropped limply by his side as she retreated.
Confusion and frustration churned in a debilitating mix within him. He wanted to pursue this intoxicating dance, yet he didn’t want to push her boundaries.
“Why?” He looked into her eyes searching for answers. “Why can it not be?”
“We are two sides of the same coin, Severus. We make a whole but will never be on the same side.”
Her smile was perplexing, it seemed almost happy but there was a deep sadness in her eyes. He knew deep down that she was correct. It struck a chord within him. They were bound together by a connection that defied conventional logic and understanding. But their paths diverged in ways that seemed insurmountable.
He looked her in the eye, he felt resigned to his fate but a small flicker of determination grew within him. “Perhaps you are right, we are fated to dance on opposite sides.” He mumbled his voice laced with regret. “But even so… I cannot deny the pull I feel towards you. I know you feel it as well. Tell me, what would need to happen to have our paths aligned?”
She gave him the saddest smile he had ever seen. “Nothing short of a miracle could have our paths merge.”
Severus’ heart sank in his chest, her words weighed heavily on him. The truth of her statement sobered him. The realization that their paths were destined to remain apart destroyed him.
He looked at her with a mix of yearning and resignation, knowing deep down that the dance they had shared all these years was nearing its end. The bitter-sweetness of the moment hung heavy in the air as he spoke softly.
“Then let us cherish this dance we’ve shared. For even if we cannot continue, let us make this one moment memorable.” His voice was tinged with sadness, his fingers reached forward to brush against her hand.
He noticed her finger twitch almost reaching back for his hand.
“It will be a dance I will always remember.”
A surge of courage coursed through his veins as he did what he had longed to do for far too long. His hand wrapped around her waist, the other cupping her cheek. “Then let us make this dance memorable.”
He pulled her into a tight embrace, his nose buried in her hair. The hand on her cheek moved down to entwine his fingers with hers.
She melted into his embrace resting her head over his heart. Her eyes closed as she spoke. “Every dance I’ve had with you, even if we were never this close before, was always memorable. Since the very first, when I saw you before I was sorted.”
Severus’ heart skipped a beat at her words. She had remembered him since the very beginning. Their bodies fit together with harmonic ease. It felt natural and comfortable to have her in his arms. He never wanted this moment to end. Their breaths mingled together, a symphony of shared intimacy.
He felt a surge of emotions well up inside him, his head dipping down to whisper in her ear. “Every dance we’ve shared has left an indelible impression on me. But this…this is different. It feels as if time has stood still when you are in my arms.”
His lips pressed against her forehead as they swayed to a silent melody. His eyes closed as well, basking in this moment for as long as he could.
She tilted her head up to look him in his eyes. Her hand came up to trace his sharp cheekbone. Her fingertips glided over his skin.
He savored her touch tilting his head into her hand. The gentle touch sent warmth through his body. No one had ever touched him like this. Not even Lily, no he wouldn’t think about her right now. All that mattered was Juliana. The world faded into insignificance as he focused solely on the woman before him. The weight of their connection weighed heavily on him, but he loved every second of it. It felt as if they were suspended in a timeless space where only their desires and emotions mattered.
“At this moment there is nothing else but you and I.” His voice trembled with the raw emotions inside him. His hand slid to cup her face, his thumb traced her bottom lip. “I will remember this forever.”
Their eyes meet her lips pressing into his thumb. “As will I, no matter how far our paths take us I will always remember this. No matter how we dance for different sides of a war, we will always be bound together in memory.”
A surge of desire passed through his body with her lips against his thumb. Her words echoed in his mind, resonating with the truth he had to accept. It was a bitter pill to swallow.
“You are right our dance may end, but our memories will last forever.” With a gentle but firm pull, he drew his body flush to hers. The world around him ceased to exist as he lowered his head capturing her lips in a passionate kiss.
He almost didn’t hear the sound of her dropping the sugar quill as her hands shot into his hair. Her fingers dragged through the inky strands.
This moment transcended anything he had ever felt before. Time and loyalties no longer mattered, as he felt her lips moving against his. His heart pounded wildly in his chest. The heat radiating between their bodies, the connection between them filled him with fire as hot as the sun, scorched in the sky.
He couldn’t help but moan into the kiss as he deepened it. Their tongues moved together in a sensual dance as both his hands cupped her face.
This moment was everything to him. A perfect union of souls, a testament to the power of love. At this moment, there was no difference between good and evil, no distinction between light and dark. Only the two of them lost in a dance of passion and devotion.
His hands moved down to her waist, “don’t leave me.” His voice came out hoarse, thick with emotion. His face buried into her neck, he nestled his nose against her soft skin breathing in her fragrance. “Please, never leave me.”
He felt a soft whimper against his lips on her neck, his fingers tightened on her waist. Yet, she never said a word and he knew why. She couldn’t make such a promise with how things were. The world was on fire and they had picked different sides to burn in.
He looked up from her neck staring into her eyes. His hand moved down to cup her bottom under his skirt. His palms rubbed the smooth skin as he pulled her closer. “Please don’t go, Juliana, don’t go.”
Her breath hitched but she still couldn’t speak. She looked down, biting her quivering lip.
His lips brushed her cheek before moving along the line of her jaw and down her neck. His fingers drew small circles on the edge of her knickers. “I won’t leave you. No matter what happens, no matter who wins, we will be together again.”
He felt her shiver in his arms. He almost smiled till he noticed her eyes filling with tears.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Severus.”
His eyes narrowed at her words, he let his fingers trace the hemline of her knickers. His nails ran along the line between her skin and the edging. “Promises I can’t keep? Must I prove myself to you?”
“Sev, I…I didn’t mean it like that. You don’t know if we will ever see each other again. No matter which side wins, one of us will have to fall.” The tears began to fall down her cheeks and it shook Severus to his core.
His hand came up to wipe her tears, pressing his forehead against hers. The nickname she gave him left a tiny smile on his face. “We will find each other again. Even if it takes years we will find each other again. When we do, I will never let you go again. We will pick up exactly where we left off.”
He leaned forward, his lips brushing against hers. “Please believe me.” His voice sounded pathetic as he begged her, but he needed her to believe him.
“I want to believe you, but I think we should be realistic. This war will change everything.”
He brushed his lips against hers again and lingered for a moment. “I promise you, my dear, no matter what happens we will find each other again. We will be reunited, and nothing will tear us apart.”
He pressed a tender kiss to her cheek. “I swear it, my love.”
She gave him that same sad smile as before hugging him tightly. “I’ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes. Until we can dance again.”
She leaned in to kiss him, it was softer than the ones before. A kiss full of devotion and sealing their promises to each other.
Severus' arms wrapped around her as they embraced his head resting against her shoulder. For a moment, he just enjoyed this feeling. The pain, and sorrow of his life disappeared. Replaced by unbridled joy and love for her, and only her.
“Until then, I’ll wait for you.” He kissed behind her ear as he whispered his promises.
They both heard footsteps behind them and pulled apart looking down the corridor. The space between them felt like oceans worth of distance.
“I should go before someone sees. I don’t want my brother to start terrorizing you again.” She looked back at him, before turning to the hallway.
“Go then, but remember I will find you again.” Severus tried to smile, bringing her hand to his lips.
——————————————————————
“Gryffindor!” The sorting hat echoed out in the Great Hall and pulled Severus out of his reverie.
Harry Potter had been sorted into his house. It didn’t shock him he was sorted into the same house as his parents and his aunt.
He looked so much like the two women in Severus’ life that meant the world. He looked like his father sure, but his features were softer like Julianas’. Even from this distance, he could see those bright green eyes, just like his mother.
The last time he had seen Harry or Juliana was at the Potters’ funeral. He had never seen such sadness, or so many tears from her. He wanted to pull her and baby Harry into his arms. But he couldn’t, it was his fault they both had lost everything. He stayed far away, watching the funeral from a distance.
Afterward, both disappeared from the Wizarding World. No one had seen them, most figured she had fled the country after Dumbledore tried to force Harry to live with the Dursleys.
He wondered where she was now and if he’d see her again. He still kept his promise, he waited for her. Even if he had tried to forget her it was impossible, no one had measured up.
Till then, he would watch over Harry, for both of his girls.
Until they could dance again.
