Drawing For Nothing is out!

Forgot to announce this here but the first ten chapters for Drawing For Nothing have been released! For those who missed the last post, this is a free, digital art book for animated films that were either canceled or bombed due to complicated issues.

Things I've seen tumblr memeing about James Somerton doing à la "How did no one see how bigoted he was!" as if those things haven't been a significant part of tumblr culture for over a decade :

Presenting untrue and bordering on conspiratorial versions of (queer or otherwise marginalised) history without any sources

Completely disregarding and disrespecting any expertise on socio-cultural topics/humanities and distrusting academics and historians (incl. acting as if no academics or historians could be queer or marginalised)

Downplaying the role misogyny played in the historical oppression of queer women and concluding that queer men must have been more oppressed than queer women

Bi women are, at best, not as queer as "real" queer ppl, and at worst, simply equivalent to straight women

Despite nominal trans inclusivity, transmasculine ppl are functionally women when convenient (combined with the above, bi transmascs are functionally straight women)

Despite nominal trans inclusivity (bis), shamelessly attacking, threatening and actively endangering any trans woman who questions them or smth they find important (often by unfairly presenting her as violent or as a threat)

Having absolutely fucking wild and reductive takes about ace ppl, the oppression they face and their place in the queer community

Stating that marriage equality is an assimilationist fight while completely ignoring its direct roots in the horrifying consequences of the AIDS crisis for partners of ppl who died of AIDS

Praising western media creators from the past for queer coding even under censure and in the same breath condemning current non western media creators for being homophobic bc their representation isn't explicit enough

Blaming China for all existing homophobic censoring in western media

Assuming all queer media would be better told by western creators and by western standards

Only out queer ppl get to tell queer stories

Heavily criticising almost all queer media created by women or ppl they see as such (see above points about trans ppl) or involving/starring a significant amount of women for any perceived or real amount of "problematicness", but fawning over and praising and negating criticism of queer media created by and starring mostly or even functionally exclusively men (even when it could be argued that, you know, not involving/seriously sidelining women is a pretty clear example of misogyny which should probably be considered "problematic")

And I'm probably forgetting stuff or there's stuff I have internalised myself and don't recognise as an issue

Like idk but I feel like the takeaway from Hbomberguy and Toddintheshadow's videos should maybe be "be aware of such patterns in your communities bc they definitely exist" and not "this guy is uniquely awful" and I feel like a lot of the discussion I've seen surrounding this has been severely failing at that. Most ppl who've spent any significant amount of time on tumblr prob either have internalised at least one of those thought patterns, have had to de-internalise them, or have had to be extremely vigilant to not internalise them (which is done by, you know, seeking out other sources, which also seemed like an important takeaway from the videos)

So once again here are some more of the creatures found in our book~ Some of them are more aggressive creatures, but a few are more passive~ As always.

Banburr - "term used for referring to the gentle giant cow"

These creatures are extremely compassionate and expressionate beings. They honk, whistle, and whiffle as a means of communication. They can form strong bonds with their owners and can live up to 200-300 years. So long as they live a long healthy lifestyle. They can run on four legs or two. But because their bodies are so massive they can only sprint on two legs before needing to trot on four. The males are mainly used for their strength and are primarily the choice steed for merchants. But nomads and travelers will typically choose the female for her milk over strength. As they are not needed to haul large loads. The female's milk is subtly sweet and floral tasting, but in general, the Banburr's milk is creamier and can be used for cheeses and other cooking. Though like most creatures from the primordial realms, again these creatures bones, claws, horns, and beaks are made up entirely of a crystaline keratin. Which is prized by human game hunters but not to the Abnormal society.

Kaddacus - "term used for referring to the one who is gluttonous"

The Kaddacus is a dangerous and unpredictable creature. They detest any sort of light. The Kaddacus is a subterranean monster that lives in water. Much like an amphibian, though for these creatures direct sunlight dries out and fries their skin on contact. So these creatures will only hunt at night to get their prey. When they do find prey they will swallow them whole and store them in their first stomach till they get to their den. Which is usually a dark deep crevice where they can regurgitate their food while they're still alive. Then leave them to find more. These creatures do not need to eat but only once a week. Because their digestion is so slow. So they will eat one big meal when it is time for them to feed. But once enough prey is collected they will gorge themselves and fill both their stomachs. While the second breaks their food down the second will feed in the remaining prey stored. Though they do have teeth, they do not use them. Their teeth is mainly superficial. Only for display purposes.

Wulkinth - "term used for referring to the one who is deathless"

These creatures are never good to come across. Whereas they are slow-moving and usually just threatening to look at, their blood is extremely toxic and can infect you with a flesh-eating fungal infection that can quickly spread if left untreated. They are notorious for their endless movement as they drag their bodies along. Because they are deathless in a sense. But not immortal in body... So as a result their bodies decay and rot while they still move. Parts of them will break off as they go and help to fertilize the earth, but still toxic should you touch it while it's still wet. They will continue to move even if the bones have tendon and muscle still attached. They will only finally stop moving when nothing is left but bone. But their brain will continue to work till it too rots away...

There we go~ A few more creatures found in my husband's and my story. I will likely still show more creatures or really start showing the various Abnormal species in our lore as well.
