Alex pouted, her brows knitted in a frown as she stared blankly at your post; constantly refreshing it to see whether or not you replied to her comment yet.

But every time she does, she gets disappointed—not seeing your reply just makes her grow fonder of your presence.

With a deep sighed, Alex turned off her phone and buried her face in y/n’s favorite pillow. The one she uses every time they sleep, the one that has her lingering smell on it, and the one Charles and Alex coddles up whenever they miss you. Which is constantly so they fight about whoever gets it.

Alex stared blankly at the ceiling, her mind was clouded with the thoughts of you. She just misses you so much it’s killing her. Literally.

The only reason you were out was because of your job; you love modeling that’s why they couldn’t have the guts to stop you from going. But now they just wished that they stopped you.

“Ughhhhh” she sighed, dragging the h along the tone of her boredness. Her voice echoing around the empty room which caught the attention of their boyfriend.

“What’s the matter, bébé?” Charles asked, peeking his head into the doorframe.

Alex lazily dragged her head up to face charles. “Everything’s cool, i just miss her is all” she mumbled, her voice laced with sadness and longing.

Charles smiled emphatically, he knows what it’s like to miss you— he’s going through that too but he’s not taking it as hard like Alex though. He’s trying to act strong for the both of them, i mean someone has to, right?

Alex felt the couch dipped down as Charles sat besides her frame. “Should we call y/n and see what’s she’s up to?” He asked, rubbing soft circles around her back.

“No” she replied all muffled due to her head still facing down and resting on your pillow.

She wanted them to call you; to hear your sweet voice. Alex wanted nothing more than that, but then again she doesn’t want to disturb you and ruin your fun.

“Let’s just watch a movie and try to get our minds of her, yeah?” Sighing defeatedly, alex nodded her head and muttered a low ‘sure’ making Charles smile happily.

So that’s what they did, they watched a movie, and ate all the food they could find in the house until they fell asleep.

They woke up the very next day— saw your recent post and started to miss you like crazy again.

Soshiro hadn’t shut up since you agreed to marry him.

He was always a talker, but your engagement to him sent him into a perpetual state of gleeful frenzy. 

He’d wake up everyday and immediately snuggle closer to you, murmuring how lucky he was over and over again. He’d brush his teeth, mouth filled with foam, and gush about how excited he was to marry you. He’d pick out his outfit for the day then ask you a million times what you thought you’d wear on the wedding day. You responded by telling him it was a secret to which he’d pout but then he’d grin and say “Okay baby, I can wait for you.”

And you were sure your friends and your coworkers were sick of him skipping around, drunk on love, as he told literally anyone and everyone who walked by that you were his fiancee. He talked of nothing else and everyone was done with it but you.

Okonogi, as sweet and as caring as she was, had already scolded the two of you many times, telling you to get a room before she barfed. She had even slapped Hoshina with a rolled up newspaper when he asked her if she’d help you pick out lingerie for the wedding night and then secretly tell him what you’d gotten. She said she absolutely did not want to know what you were going to wear when you got freaky with the Vice Captain. 

Shinonome had always been jealous that Hoshina was so much more verbal of his love than Narumi was, but after hearing him word-vomit for hours on end about how much he was obsessed with you, she was glad Narumi wasn’t a talker. 

Nakanoshima held out the longest- she was used to crazy antics, having usually been the one perpetuating them. But at some point, even she thought that Hoshina was way too down bad for you. “Is it even possible for someone to be that love crazy?? It’s not natural.” 

But you thought he was perfect. You thought it was so cute that when the mail carrier dropped by with packages, Soshiro dragged you over so he could show you off to the guy before he signed off on the packages, exclaiming “Isn’t my fiancee such a beauty??” (of course, when the guy agreed with him, Soshiro then proceeded to protectively pull you closer to him, saying “Yeah, but you can’t have her, she’s mine”). And when the takeout guy delivered your food, when the cab driver came to pick you up, Soshiro did the same exact thing, over and over again. He just couldn’t stop parading you around. He was in love, and this was how he showed it. 

He was so high on happiness, that even when he had to work, when he had to fight, his adoration and devotion continued. He’d walk right up to a Kaiju and say, “Now, the love of my life is going to kill you now, but it’s okay because it’s an honor to be killed by someone so gorgeous. I mean, I’d die by her hands too.” Then you’d bash its core in, giggling like a schoolgirl and he’d admire your handiwork, showering you with compliments about your form and your talent. 

Eventually, Captain Ashiro gave you both a week off of work, just to save the base from the cheesy, flirty banter the two of you so publicly displayed, so frequently. Even she had grown tired of the lovey-dovey routine, happy as she was for you both, and she hoped you’d take this small vacation far, far away from the rest of them. Give them a bit of respite, so that they could still like you when you came back. 

Soshiro took this golden opportunity as a chance to take you back to his hometown. He wanted to show you where he grew up, and to introduce you to his family. He’d even made preparations so his brother, the Captain of the Sixth Division, would be home to meet you. He was beyond excited, even “ecstatic” didn’t begin to cover the extent of his feelings. 

He couldn’t sit still through the train ride. At first, he tried to- he snuggled up to you and rested his head on your shoulder, letting the train shift you back and forth against him. But then he wanted to show you the view as they got closer and closer to his town and he’d run back and forth across both sides of the train car to point out different sights to you. And then eventually he got so giddy he couldn’t sit back down anymore, he would just hum to himself as he paced beside you. You weren’t surprised, you’d been with him in bed, you knew how much energy he had. He was like a little golden retriever and you adored him for it. 

Finally, you arrived at your destination. 

You thought that he would be in a rush to take you to his family, but to your surprise, he wanted to give you the entire tour of his town first. He showed you the tree he had tried and failed to climb when he was younger, breaking his arm when he hit the ground wrong. He had been scared it wouldn’t heal right and he’d never be able to wield a sword properly again. He showed you his favorite places to train, his favorite places to run away to and avoid his family, his favorite places to hangout. You met all his neighbors, you met the owner of a convenience store that Soshiro frequented a lot when he was younger, you even met Soshiro’s barber (and thanked him for making your fiance look adorable every single time). 

With all this socializing, you felt you had to be prepared to meet his family now, you were already in the groove of things. But as you stood at the doors to the Hoshina manor, you felt your nerves seeping in. You remembered how Soshiro would tell you that his father had wanted him to give up on joining the Defense Force because it wasn’t logical. If he didn’t bless this union, if he didn’t see a future for the two of you, would he ask you to give up Soshiro? He’d have to suffer through his disappointment if he did, because you would never give Soshiro up. You were selfish, you couldn’t live without him. And you were greedy enough to hope he couldn’t live without you either. 

So you took him by the hand, hopes and dreams piled high, as you stepped into his childhood home. You could face anything, as long as he was beside you. 

He must’ve felt the uneasiness weighing you down, because he pressed a kiss to your hand, whispering, “It’s alright, I’ve got you.”

His parents are the first to greet you (they explain that Soichiro will be joining later).

They welcome you more warmly than you imagined they would, and it allows you some slight respite from your fears, your breath coming more naturally to you now.

You notice he got his looks from his mom, and presumably his strength and his skill from his dad. As you talk with them more, you discover his skill actually mainly came from sparring with his brother, and his stubbornness was a result of losing those spars with his brother. 

You wish you could’ve seen little Soshiro, sulking after another lost round, demanding for a rematch over and over until his body ached. You’ve only ever known cocky Soshiro, smug Soshiro. Soshiro, who was never unsure that he’d prevail in a fight. Soshiro, who was never afraid to challenge those who were supposedly better than him, butting heads with even the famous Captain of the First Division. Soshiro, who upon first seeing you, immediately began pursuing you with a frightening amount of fervor. Or it would have been frightening if it had been anyone but you; in actuality, you thought his passion and intensity were endearing, or at the very least, intriguing. You couldn’t wait to see what he had up his sleeve next. And he kept entertaining you every single day until that entertainment became fondness and that fondness became love. 

And now, here you were, begging his parents to like you, to accept you, to bless your union. You knew it was usually the man asking the woman’s family for their blessing, but you couldn’t help but feel the need to reassure the Hoshinas that you would take care of him. You would love him all your days. You would treat him the way he deserved, and support him the way that he needed. You wouldn’t just move mountains for him, you’d move solar systems. You needed them to know that, and you needed him to know that.

So, as Soshiro and his parents enjoyed their tea, you thought you’d take advantage of the silence. 

“I love your son.” You blurted out, causing everyone at the table to turn to you. “I love him more than anyone ever has or ever will. I love him so much it hurts, I love him so much that the hurting is blissful. I love him more than I did yesterday and the day before, and tomorrow I’ll love him more than I do today. I love him in this universe and every other one. I love who he was, who he is, and who he will be. I love every version of him, every detail of him, everything that there is to love- I love it all. I love him so much that I came here, with hopes high, even despite my fears, to meet you all. Because I want to know him more. Because I want to love who he loves. And if you could find it in your hearts to allow me the privilege of marrying your son, I’ll love him to the ends of the earth and back and never stop. And if you somehow don’t approve of our marriage, I want you to know that I’ll keep on loving him regardless. I love him so much that I don’t physically know how to stop. And I’d never choose to stop. I’d choose him in a million lifetimes, without a second’s hesitation, without a single doubt in my mind, he’s the one for me. So. Anyway. Please let me marry your son.”

You ramble and you ramble, but suddenly, as you’re nearing the end of your rant, you find your confidence stumbling. You’ve said too much and you’re hoping they’ll still hear you out. You wonder if they stopped listening after the first few sentences. You wonder if Soshiro is embarrassed. You wonder if you’re brave enough to look at him. You’re not. You pick at your fingers and stare into your cup of tea, waiting for someone, for anyone to break the silence. 

“Well, I think that pretty much covers everything. Sounds like you’re a lucky guy, Soshiro.” A voice from behind splits the silence. You all turn to see Soichiro Hoshina sauntering towards you, excited to join in on the conversation. He grins from ear to ear as he slaps Soshiro on the back and ruffles his hair, calling him “little bro,” to which Soshiro responds by shoving him away, grumbling. 

With him here, and having so publicly approved of your little love declaration, his parents seem to relax more. They speak their agreement and your hands finally stop shaking. 

You did it. You got their blessing. And you also earn yourself the most loving gaze Soshiro has ever bestowed on you in the process. He squeezes your hand as he continues beaming at you. The man is practically overflowing with love for you and now it’s evident for everyone else to see. 

His family exchanges fond glances with each other before finally offering up their congratulations and best wishes to you both. 

His adoration gives you the confidence to say what you’ve been thinking for a long time now, and you’re so glad you can finally say it.

I've been meaning to post this one for a while, as it's honestly in my top ten Comte events of all time. For this Collection story event, it was basically all the suitors comforting MC when she's stressed/tired/overworked. And lbr, who doesn't need that in their life?

I do love how, especially in recent events, MC notices his gestures more and more 🥺💛💛💛💛💛💛 I think it's really cute that he wants to be sneaky sweet and supportive, and whenever she realizes it he's like. C'est moi? You're not fooling anyone pretty boy!!! I know you have brain cells up there!!! But also the sincerity in that last line, of how he really does also just want to spend some time with her. How he's always saying the most wonderful thing she can give him is her time.

I was enveloped in the sound of his voice, warming my heart, and my feet stopped involuntarily. Comte: MC? Can I just ?????? Say????? How much I love MC being teasing/catty with him as the events go on. I LOVE it here. I think I really like how she grows into her own strength, and how she feels comfortable expressing her shyness without ceding that integrity. One thing I've noticed that I love in relationships is this ability to air grievances in a playful way, where the stakes are low--but the person can still express their feelings and be comforted. I think I like how it's not about putting pressure on the person, but getting it out in the open and resolved all the same. It just fills me with warm fuzzies c:

Oh i feel like she would actually be into all this creepy, unsettling stuff! Horror movies, urban legends and of course haunted dolls! You are perfect match tbh. Jane is obviously curious about your collection, its impressive and she just love hearing you talking!! My favorite Manga and Graphic Novels I Read in 2022

I read 54 different manga and graphic novel series in 2022 (you can see them here, from the beginning until the print novels start with Hench. I only included one from each series for my own weird reasons but I'm up to date on everything except Adachi and Shimamura and Prince Freya, which I dropped for now). You can also see my favorite novels of 2022 here!

Snapdragon by Kat Leyh

A young girl gets involved with a witch who has has lots of skeletons (animal and otherwise). I’ve always loved Leyh’s work, and this is her usual super queer fantasy that has everything I adore- cute art, cool witches, animal magic, older butch lesbians with eye patches, lovable characters and lots of sweetness.

SHWD by Sono.N

It’s refreshing to see a dark sci-fi yuri about incredibly ripped adult women fighting monsters, and it really pulls off the horror of the monsters well with some gripping action. The characters were pretty charming too and there was a lot of attention paid to the trauma of the situation.

However, it does have a 'character who looks like a child', which is not my favorite trope for a lot reasons. It bothers me a bit less than other series because the art style does not do cutesy. She just looked like a short adult. The reasoning for having her there was...interesting, I'm not sure where they'll go with that, but it's original, though potentially weird?

Anyway, I like what it's doing and I'm interested to see where this goes. I hope we continue to get a variety of yuri like this published over here!

The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This by Takashi Ikeda

Two ladies- 32-year-old anime screenwriter and 22-year-old newbie anime voice actress- live together and navigate their romantic relationship. It’s mostly done in short vignettes, but the central couple has a fun dynamic and the art is nice, and some plot threads slowly develop as the books go on. It’s a cozy read, and it’s nice to see the ups and downs of an adult relationship where they share living space. I also find the 32 year old attractive, to be honest, I’d date her.

Until I Met My Husband by Ryousuke Nanasaki, art by Yoshi Tsukizuki

An autobiographical story of the first religiously recognized gay marriage in Japan. It’s not super lengthy or meaty, but it’s a sweet read.

Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe

You might have heard of this book based on how it was banned in a lot of places, it’s simply an autobiographical story of growing up genderqueer. It’s a breezy read with some nice evocative art, and Kobabe is pretty relatable.

Nubia: Real One by L.L. McKinney, Art by Robin Smith

I read a bunch of the DC standalone YA offerings from the library this year and found most of them to be a let-down, but this was a good one. It follows a young Nubia, a black girl who discovers she’s an Amazon related to Wonder Woman herself, and uses her abilities to confront some very real dangers and injustices, while also struggling against racism and other forms of prejudice. Satisfying, solid YA.

Who Killed Jimmy Olsen? By Matt Fraction, Art by Steve Lieber

Another library read. A fun riff on the zaniness of Silver Age Jimmy Olsen comics with a healthy does of humor, it follows the bizarre life of Superman’s BFF as he tries to avoid assassination and does some viral YouTube videos .I especially liked the weird but sweet relationship Jimmy and Clark had in this, and the gentle dunking on Batman.

Run Away With Me, Girl by Battan

Maki’s girlfriend, Midori, broke up with her during her high school graduation, saying she had to “move on” to dating guys now that she was grown up. Ten years later, Maki runs into Midori and finds she’s in an abusive relationship with a man she’s engaged to after getting pregnant. Maki asks Midori to run away with her, but will she?

This is definitely a darker yuri- the abuse Midori faces escalates, and the dude she’s with is basically an incel- but it’s handling the subject matter well so far and I’m really interested to see where it goes. There’s been a notable amount of yuri lately that’s tackled the belief that love for other women is just a childish phase, but this is the first one I’ve seen that explores what happens to a woman who believes that and forces herself into a heterosexual relationship. The abuse Midori faces is not at all framed as her ‘just desserts’ or anything, but a tragic circumstance that happened to a woman who was desperate to fit in and not be alone. The art is also fantastic and distinctive. I really hope it sticks the landing!

She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat by Sakaomi Yuzaki

A slice-of-life foodie yuri manga! Nomoto cooks more than she can eat, and she notices her next-door neighbor is a big eater and invites her over. A very slowburn romance strikes up. I got interested in this because of the authors marriage equality activism, and it’s a cute read. It’s laid back and slow paced, but there are nice moments of realism that make it very grounded- the way the women talk about being mistreated at work, Nomoto complaining that all the fashion articles she look up talk about impressing men- it was relatable! I also liked that Kasuga is large and butch and doesn’t have to look conventionally ‘cute’.

Cheer Up: Love and Pom-Poms by Crystal Fraiser

A cute YA about an acerbic young lesbian joining the cheer squad and repairing her relationship with her people-pleasing trans friend. It’s for a younger audience, but it’s a sweet romance with adorable art.

I Want to Be A Wall by Honami Shirono

I’m interested to see where this one goes. An aro-ace woman and a gay man in love with his (seemingly, so far) straight best friend enter a marriage of convenience. Yuriko’s obsessive BL fandom can get annoying, but it’s always refreshing to see the ace character represented and the manga is realistic about the struggles we face. I’m rooting for this one!

Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon by Shio Usui

A slow burn office lady romance, it’s just downright cute. It might be a little slowpaced for some but I enjoyed it!

Catch These Hands! by Murata

I’m a huge sucker for delinquent girls, so the story of two former delinquent girl rivals who meet again as adults, only for one to challenge each other to a fight with the condition that she’ll date her if she loses? Sign me up! This is, unfortunately, a little uneven- the second volume was kinda eh and introduced an annoying side character with some questionable tropes-but the third volume picked things up again and included a wonderfully absurd training montage. Though it starts with one of the women wanting to change and appear less like a delinquent and more ‘normal’, the clear message of the series is she doesn’t need to. If you don’t like any kind of violence, no matter how weird and divorced from reality, this isn’t for you though, as there is the whole challenge-to-a-fight thing, but it’s tongue in cheek and wacky enough I don’t mind.

Continuing favorites:

Witch Hat Atelier- Can't believe Witch Hat punched the 'funny anime pervert' trope to dust like it deserves, while also exploring and denouncing victim blaming in a genuinely affecting way. This manga is legendary. Also I'm very worried for everyone.

Yuri is My Job!- Really escalated wonderfully with it’s tangled web of relationships, rich backstories, and commentary on how people, especially queer people, often put on a performance. What IS the true self? One character’s commentary on how she wanted her work place to ‘like romance without the romance’ (a la class S) yet can’t suppress her true romantic fantasies was especially well-done. There’s also a character saying ‘friggin’ heteros’. The accurate representation we need, clearly. I just really enjoy this cast of characters.

Spy x Family (A Yor arc! Finally! And there’s just as much murder and mayhem as that should entail!), My Love Mix Up! (continues to be adorable), Yona of the Dawn (dramatic backstory reveals!), How Do We Relationship? (it’s really interesting to read a gay romance where the central relationship is acknowledged as not good for both of them and they try to move on), Delicious in Dungeon (the dungeon adventures are ramping up!), A Man and His Cat (more kitty cuteness), The Way of the House Husband (more hijinks), Bride’s Story (another volume of the beautiful historical epic! It’s been a while.), The Adventure Zone graphic novels (continue to be a lot fun with fantastic art), I Think Our Son is Gay (continues to be a sweet look at a mom supportive of her gay son), Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun (I’ll always love these idiots) and My Wandering Warrior Existence by Kabi Nagata (another entry in Nagata’s moving autobiographical series about the struggles of mental illness, self reflection, and queer exploration).

I finally started watching A*TLA (the animated series) 19 years too late, but here are my thoughts so far on the characters:

A*ang: He’s so sweet & adorable. I love him. He’s like a little brother to me. Has the purest heart.

K*atara: Truly a breath of fresh air after watching countless useless heroines in other media. I think she’s beautiful, tough, highly intelligent, observant, not afraid to be bossy or angry, and calls people out on their bullshit—but she’s also very caring, loving, and kind. She reminds me a lot of Devasena from the Baahubali films (and myself, hehe). All heroines should be like this!!!

S*okka: Never has a character made me laugh more. I think he’s hilarious and I love his sense of humor.

T*oph: I absolutely adore her. She’s so cute, funny, and tough.

Z*uko: In another life, he and Sasuke would’ve been besties. Z would be the nicer of the two 😂

I*roh: I think he’s funny & witty and I like how he treats his (sometimes mannerless) nephew as his own son.

O*zai: DILF in a “Dad I’d Like to Fight” way but he’s also a baddie?

A*zula: Everything about this character annoys me (especially her voice) and I don’t like her at all.

T*y Lee: She’s cute but gives off certain vibes…iykyk

M*ai: UGLY AS SIN!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

Princess Y*ue: So gorgeous and her story was sad yet beautiful :(

Usually I tend to dislike the heroes and often side with the villains, but the ones in this show annoyed me and I found them unlikeable. I love the main gang and was rooting for them at all times. I also really love the world building, lore, and cultural references. It’s all so fascinating.

From what we know so far, she’s kept her virtue for so long, and the Devils in Gehenna are very straightforward when it comes to what they want”. Bael blinked. “How do you know all of this?!!” “Oh? She texted me! I asked her, that’s all”.

Kayleigh walked through the Palace and hummed. “I wonder why no one’s here”. Beelzebub then walked in and he was covered in Angel Blood. “I-I’m here. Like I said I would be! Just needed to… um… take care of… something?!” She gasped and asked, “Are you okay? You’re covered in blood! Did someone hurt you?” He laughed and poked her head. “So adorable! You’re so oblivious to the Angels trying to kill you! Haha!” Then her face went pink and she mumbled, “I was just too excited… since I get to see you, Beelzebub”. His eyes widened slightly and he felt his own cheeks go pink.

“Oh… well, I’m happy you’re here~! Let’s go out~!”

“Yeah~. I’d like that~”.

Beelzebub then glared at the four Devils who had all been spying on the two this whole time. Bael pushed all of their heads down and he ducked. “Do you think His Majesty saw us?!” “What do you think, idiot…?!!!”, Bael scolded Stolas before sighing. “We’re all idiots”.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 28 Review + Final Thoughts - No More Frieren Fridays For Now

Milet is asking me if I’m alright. No, I am not alright. Frieren is done. This is the final episode. No more Frieren Fridays until a second season is fully announced. What will my Fridays be like without Frieren now?

The finale of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s end continues off from where the penultimate episode ended. Serve eventually passes Fern, Denken, Ubel, Land, Wirbel and Methode. They all impress Serie in different ways. For Fern, she’s naturally talented in magic. For Denken, he’s old, but still has youthful passion for magic. For Ubel, she passes her because she can sense her psychotic nature underneath; it’s more of a “here, have it and now go away” or some sort of equivalent. For Land, she passed him because he had the biggest titanium balls to show up to the exam as magic clones; the Land in the exam all have been clones as the real body happens to be at his hometown sipping tea. The fact that his clones can produce more clones is a crazy spell in itself; no wonder Ubel is so fascinated with him. I want his power; it’d be cool to make my clones go to work in my place while I just laze around at home; I’d still be multi-tasking at the end of the day. For Wirbel, she passes him because she finds him the most ideal of the first class mages she’s seen. He has no likes or dislikes when it comes to magic as he sees it as a tool for killing at the end of the day. For Methode, she calls Serie small and cute and that unexpectedly causes her to pass. Serie’s methods of passing is quite unusual, but it does make sense as the ones she passed were the most competent mages of the bunch.

After the exam, it’s nice to see the main party interacting with other characters. We have Stark and Fern interacting with Denken and Laufen. Denken tells Fern and Stark about how he spoils younger people because he never had children or grandchildren; his wife died young, and the grave he’s most likely going to visit is hers. Denken enjoys magic because he admires Frieren from the hero’s party. Wirbel and Frieren interact. This is an unusual pair, but Wirbel approaches her in order to ask why she didn’t help the old lady. He then talks about how Himmel was the reason he became who he is now because the stories of his adventures motivated him to be able to protect something. Their backstories seem to indicate that they’ll meet Frieren again.

It can’t be Frieren without an action scene, which is shown when Lernen tried to engage in a duel with Frieren. Although there wasn’t a big brawl between the two, the animation was rather crisp. He did this because he was worried that Serie would not remember him. Frieren tells him that she’s just a big tsundere and that she always remembers her disciples even if they didn’t make a mark in history. I think this was rather nice to let him know that Serie isn’t all that she seems.

The flashbacks with Himmel were rather soothing. They shape up why Frieren does what she does. She treasures every memory she has of him, which is sweet as she is learning to appreciate her time with him. I’m going to miss these flashbacks.

Also, it was hilarious that the magic Fern got from her promotion was laundry magic. Serie’s face as she gave her the grimoire was priceless. It was also hilarious knowing that Serie banned Frieren from any building associated with the Continental Magic Association for the next millennium out of petulance. These elves are at a civil war with each other.

It was also nice to see a glimpse of what Stark had been doing as the mages were taking the exam. He was playing with the city kids, befriending other city folk and merchants adore him to the point that they want to give him samples of their products. I do like how he’s like a people magnet. He attracts people of all kinds, from kids, to men, to elderly men.

The ending of Frieren is calm, soothing and very fitting for what the vibes of this show gives off. The good-byes are short because they’ll meet again. The reason why they say it’s embarrassing if they meet again is because a dramatic farewell would be awkward if you met the person who received the dramatic parting with. What are your thoughts about the finale?

Final Thoughts

Frieren is a very unique take on the fantasy anime. While there are classic fantasy tropes, Frieren’s story primarily focuses on how life is ephemeral and how each encounter should be treasured because you may not be around when they pass on.

It’s a unique fantasy story because the story begins after one big journey comes to an end. The premise itself is unique. On top of that, the main protagonist isn’t a human, but an elf, so she lives much longer than her peers. She sees people live and die all the time, but it’s because of Himmel and her travels with him for the past 10 years that she learns that there is a lot more she needs to know when it comes to life, hence why she starts a new journey to seek out Heaven.

Frieren is already an experienced protagonist. While she is OP, she still has flaws like having juvenile weaknesses and an obsession with treasure chests. The people traveling with Frieren, past and present, all have unique personalities that help them stand out. They aren’t exaggerated caricatures as they have various personalities that make them feel human—well, socially awkward humans. My only issue with the characters is that I sort of want to see more of the other races. We’ve seen elves, demons and dwarves. Are there more out there? When will we get dwarf lore? Mimic lore?

The people and experiences Frieren goes through in this story is her appreciating the memories of the past and the people around her. Whether it be helping people by eradicating demons that she still has yet to kill off or doing menial tasks because she knew their ancestors, it’s nice to see the stoic Frieren grow as a person too.

The animation was amazing. Madhouse really showed off why they’re powerhouses in action scenes. My personal favorite was Episode 9 where Fern and Stark were battling Lugner and Linie. The way they moved around was amazing. Not only that, Episode 15 was a spectacle in animation as they animated the Fern and Stark dance scene, which wasn’t shown in the manga.

The music was beautiful. I never heard of Evan Call until now, but I know that he’s definitely one to watch out for anime soundtracks now. I love the addition of flute when it comes to the battle scenes. It gives a rather unique flair to it.

The voice acting was great! The choices for each character is really good! Atsumi Tanezaki has always been versatile, so for her to voice the rather stoic Frieren and make her sound rather different from Chise Hatori from The Ancient Magus’s Bride was really something. I’ve never heard of Kana Ichinose until this anime and I really like how her voice sounds! Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark was nice too. Himmel, Heiter and Eisen’s voices fit them so well. Everyone else in the cast had very fitting voices too. The mages were voiced by rather new faces mixed with veterans, but they did a good job too! I think the stand out performance was Mariya Ise as Serie because I didn’t expect her to use her “boy” voice when voicing the female Serie. It was a nice twist. Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel stood out too because he voices him as a young adult and as a grandpa in the first episode.

Overall, I really enjoyed this unique take on a fantasy anime. I normally don’t watch fantasy anime despite being a huge lover of the genre, but this one is definitely a kickstarter that I should watch more. I know that the fantasy genre has been saturated with isekai, but I’m sure that some of them will be hidden gems. I totally recommend watching this show if you want to watch a chill fantasy anime. Let’s hope that a season 2 is in the making. What are your thoughts on the anime as a whole?

For ship ask: Mary/Matthew and Sybil/Tom

First of all, I would like to say a great big SORRY for answering this so late! I’ve finally got round to answering this.

So.......Mary/Matthew.

What made me ship it: Strangely, this question is difficult to answer because I don’t know where to begin. I suppose.... what made me really ship them in the first place was that they are so healthy, and both during their convoluted courtship and their married life, it’s so obvious that they respect each other. They bring out the best in each other. They complement each other and accept one another just the way they are, flaws and all. They enjoy each other’s company. They share the same sense of humour. Their love is unconditional, their chemistry explosive and unlike anything I’d ever seen before. Their adoration for one another is so beautifully GENUINE and believable. More than anything, though, I think I ship them because they made me believe for the first time in true love.

So all of those factors morphed together and made me fall hopelessly in love with them, both individually and as a couple :)

Favourite things about the ship: All of the things mentioned above, plus some other stuff. Such as the fact that when they do fight and argue, the fights are always, always healthy. They get into a furious argument and still get into bed with each other. They hold their love above everything. There’s also the fact that they can be emotionally vulnerable with each other. They are the only people who can access the other’s heart and they know the deepest core of each other. There’s such a deep level of intimacy they share which is so beautiful to watch. I love the way they work as a team, they are in a partnership together and they are really good friends who are so comfortable around each other. All of this in addition to being physically attracted and having spades of sexual chemistry. They can be silly and goofy around one another which is adorable! (MATTHEW’S BED FLOP. AGH. And Mary’s silly miming during charades in the S2CS. She looked so cute!)

Unpopular opinion I have about the ship: An unpopular opinion.... Hmmm. I don’t know if this counts, but.... I just think Lavinia should not have been killed off. She should have broken it off with Matthew, leave and marry a man whose heart was hers and hers alone. That’s the only sort-of unpopular opinion I have about this ship. Other than that, no.... I love everything about them, even the angst and heartbreak and pining and when they are both being idiots!

Now for Sybil and Tom.

What made me ship it: I think they’re interesting together, but no, I don’t think they’re a truly good couple.

Favourite things about the ship: I like that they overcome all odds to be together... the daughter of an earl marrying a chauffeur was, needless to say, a massive step down in society and I admire Sybil for having the guts to do it. I also like that (in the first season) they have a shared interest in politics and women’s rights and the way Tom encourages her :) Also, BABY SYBBIE. That moment between them after the baby was born was very sweet.

Unpopular opinions I have about the ship: Now for the unpopular opinions. I have a few. (To all the S/T shippers.... I’m really sorry, I don’t mean any offence :))

During S1, I liked them and I thought their slowly burgeoning love was cute and sweet. During S2, though... I didn’t care for them much. Much of the season was spent by Tom being a bit pushy, badgering Sybil and trying to convince her to run away with him, and on some occasions even putting her down, showing his resentment towards her family and acting like he knew better than her, which sort of rubbed me the wrong way. The adoration and tenderness was missing in S2.

I also got the feeling that Sybil didn’t fall in love with Tom for the person he was. While agreeing to marry him, she says, “I’m ready to travel..... and you’re my ticket.” It sounds like the only reason she married him was because she wanted a way out of her life, not because she genuinely cared for him as a person.

Plus, there’s the fact that compared to the other main developing couples on the show in the first three seasons (Matthew/Mary and Bates/Anna) Sybil and Tom are the couple that gets the least amount of screen time. They spend S1 being friends, with Tom slowly developing a crush on Sybil. They receive permission to marry near the end of S2. We don’t get to see their wedding. They briefly return in 3x01 for Mary’s wedding. They’re absent in 3x02 and play a minimal part in 3x03. 3x04 is completely overshadowed by Tom’s exile from Ireland. That’s the last episode they’re together before Sybil dies in 3x05. So we don’t get to see much of their married life, which is another reason why I couldn’t fully get behind them and ship them wholeheartedly.

rosaline is a verbally abusive yet so caring kind of girl . she will tear you down so you don’t think anyone but her would love you. even if anyone tries to get at you, she’ll send her henchmen to abduct and mutilate them. i’d categorize her as a sadistic yan.

“why do you bother making conversation with them, sugar cube? you know they don’t like you. they never will like you. they don’t want you like i do. must i blacken your other eye?”

vesperia is just… sick. she wants to kill you. she wants to turn you into a corpse. she wants to keep you in her morgue forever and ever and ever and ever and— i’d call her an obsessive yan.

“can… can you promise me you’ll come here when you die? please?”

elita is the kind of person that will stick to your side like a piece of melted chewing gum. it adores your company and wants to be your bestest friend in the world! besides, what if you inhale the product? what if you get high and it needs to care for you? it totally didn’t drug you to keep you around. clingy yan.

“there’s my sweet larva! i was getting worried about you. i got you a lil drink while you were gone! here drink it! …drink it. i said take the fucking drink.”

cy is similar to tiffany in the sense of guilt tripping, but she’s much nicer! she’ll baby you, coddle you, make you feel special, but the moment you try to stray from her grasp she starts the waterworks. also a manipulative yan.

“oh buttercup, i’m glad you called me back. i missed you so much! i brought your favourite snacks and movies and— ..what do you mean you didn’t want to do that today? but i came all this way to keep you company! surely you’ll let me hold you while we watch lalaland again :(“

aziel is the kind of guy who will act like you are already his partner! he believes you are already in love with him but haven’t asked for a label yet for some odd reason. that’s okay! no matter how much you push him away, he’ll always find a way back. he’s a delusional yan.

“oh my lemon bar~! can i get a kiss? please? it’ll help me with work! come on, just one? alright i’ll stop, i love you! …say it back. you know you love me. say it back.”

leviathan and lazaria are a package deal of psychos. (no they do not date they just share) they will helicopter and tease the sweet thing but at the end of the day that’s their sweet thing. nobody else gets to touch them lest they be brutally murdered by the two of them. leviathan is a masochist yan tho while lazaria is a sadist yan.

“my poison, you’re so adorable. you should carve your initials into my back so everyone knows i’m yours. come on, it would be fun!”

“i wanna make you bite the curb and suck your broken teeth out of your gums. you’re so cute!!”

konstantin is hostile and mean. he hates you, but he can’t get enough of you. he wants to put you in a glass enclosure like he does the insects he collects but he also wants to leave you dead on the operating table. he’s a mixed messages yan.

“your presence is excruciating. make yourself useful and hand me the scalpel. thank you. i love you. …i never said that. you’re hearing things. shut the fuck up.”

casanova is a show off. he wants you to be impressed by him. he’s kind to you, flirts with you, and will court you even if you’re already dating. but god forbid you reject him. he will indulge himself in you but as soon as you say no he becomes hostile and won’t let up. he will get you to say i love you back. self indulgent yan.

“mi vida! mi vida, i harvested an entire group of friends in two hours! isn’t that impressive? i’m so cool, aren’t i? i love you so much i couldn’t do this without you! mwah!!”

kastiel is infatuated with you. he has been for too long and he always will be. he’s so in love with you and worships the littlest of actions you do. you’re just so,, perfect. too good for him. are you real? are you just another cryptid waiting to take his skin? he’ll let you! he’s an obsessive yan.

Some Thoughts on GxK

So, now that I’ve had a bit of time to collect my thoughts regarding GxK, I figured I’d share them in more detail. So without further ado, here goes!

Pros:

- The action was absolutely fantastic, although I do wish some of the fight scenes had been a little longer.

- I enjoyed all four of the main human characters in this one: I thought Ilene Andrews & Jia’s relationship was actually really well-done, and the dynamic between Trapper & Bernie was hilarious. Also, I feel like Trapper is definitely the Steve Irwin of Monarch in terms of how he views & interacts with the Titans. 😄

- Highlight was definitely the scenes that focused just on the interactions between the Titans, especially Kong & Suko, the first meeting between Kong & the other Great Apes, and the reunion of Godzilla & Mothra (which was absolutely adorable).

- Goji channeling his inner cat and taking that nap in the Colosseum was amazing, and the fact that he went back to take another nap there at the end of the movie was a perfect cherry on top. 😂 (Although I wish Mothra had gone back there with him at the end.)

- Skar King was a really fun villain; he might not be quite as imposing as Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla, but he’s just as scary, and I feel like he definitely made up for not being as physically powerful by having so much personality & intelligence.

- Shimo is so sweet, and I love her so much! 🥺 They did a really good job of making her sympathetic; I felt so bad for her while she was under Skar King’s control, and the way she acted after she finally got her freedom was so pure and sweet. Also, I love that she technically got to kill her abuser, even if Kong was the one who finished him off after she froze him.

- All the new Hollow Earth creatures were really cool, and Doug popping in and stealing part of Kong’s lunch legitimately cracked me up. 🤭

- Cool to see Scylla’s return and Tiamat’s onscreen debut, even if they didn’t last very long. I also couldn’t help but laugh a little at the fact that Godzilla killed both of them using his “Kiss of Death” tactic from the 2014 movie.

- I’d seen some of the rumors & leaks regarding Mothra beforehand, but I still got so excited when they finally name-dropped her, and her glorious return did not disappoint! Also, again, her reunion with Godzilla was super-cute, and I love the little detail that despite all of his aggressive behavior in the previous movie and most of this one, he visibly calms down as soon as she shows up and stays that way for the rest of the film.

Cons:

- Some of the film did feel kinda rushed. It wasn’t too bad, but I feel like they definitely could’ve extended it by a half-hour to expand some of the action scenes and some of the character development a little more. The Rio fight, in particular, felt a little too rushed & short compared to the final battles of the other MonsterVerse movies.

- Like I said, I’m really glad that we finally got Mothra back, but the whole “Iwi prophecy” explanation for her return felt kinda weird & unnecessary. Why is Jia somehow the only person who can wake Mothra up? Where did Mothra’s new incarnation come from, since it seems like it wasn’t from the egg that Monarch found in the credits of KOTM? Why is her cocoon invisible until Jia touches it? (I guess that last one’s probably for camouflage purposes, but it did seem kinda weird.) I feel like they probably could’ve just had her already be awake & protecting the Iwi in her new body, and ditch the whole prophecy subplot in favor of Jia just bonding more with the Hollow-Earth Iwi tribe instead.

- The fact that both Scylla and Tiamat were killed off as soon as they showed up was a bummer, although I did enjoy both of those fights.

- And although I do like the look of Godzilla’s new Evolved form, it didn’t really feel very important, if that makes sense? Like, when he unlocked his Burning form against Ghidorah back in KOTM, it was really important in terms of the story and also gave his character some additional depth by emphasizing his symbiotic relationship with Mothra, but here it felt like he could’ve played the exact same role in the story without that new transformation.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one! Not my favorite of the MonsterVerse films (currently, I’d say my ranking from favorite to least favorite is KOTM, GvK, GxK, G2014, and KSI), but it was still a solid, fun Kaiju film, and I’m definitely planning on seeing it again while it’s still in theaters.

Oh yeah, big same all around! I definitely also expected the Rio fight to have more going on, and it would have been cool if Shimo was the one to end Skar King rightly in repayment for the hell he put her through. Mothra just suddenly appearing out of nowhere like that had me tilting my head, like what if her egg (somehow) was brought to the Hollow Earth and was chilling out on that pyramid in the cocoon stage, finally releasing when Jia did her thing (I didn't read it as Mothra's cocoon being invisible... time for a second viewing!); also surprising that Ilene didn't mention "oh yeah, Mothra, she laid an egg last time she was alive" or at least work in some way that Mothra could feasibly show up. The sudden prophecy subplot was odd, but okay movie, you do you. Maybe this will get cleared up in the novelization?

Tropes I’d like to see less of:

- dumb immature guy x responsible uptight nerd girl. I don’t automatically dislike ships like this (some of these are my otps) but I’d like to see them fleshed out some more. Make the guy mature more before they get into a relationship (keep the goofy, though), and show me how the girl fell for him. How did she go from seeing him as obnoxious to cute and sweet?

- this is in line with the last one, but girl who hits the guy. It doesn’t matter if they’re friends or romantic partners, but it bothers me. This happens more in fics, thankfully, but just the way they portray it as cute and normal for a girl to regularly get super annoyed and hit someone she’s supposed to love doesn’t seem right.

- “x (magic, etc) thing killed my family so now I don’t wanna do it” look. I get it, but,,, it’s so overdone. Doesn’t mean it can’t be done really well and make an amazing story and if you like this trope then cool! But it makes me roll my eyes at this point.

- black widow archetype. I think everyone gets what I mean by this. Female character who’s supposed to be scary and baddass and probably wears revealing clothing and their emotional development is an afterthought to the writers because they were like “look! We put in a strong female character!”. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Natasha Romanov but it also bothers me to watch her in the earlier movies because it’s so obvious what they did wrong. This can be done well from the beginning if you actually intend to develop the character before you kill her off (see: Rosa diaz).

❤️: I think the most egregiously mischaracterized character in the fandom is Grace. lil gracie-poo. gracie face. Can you tell I adore her?? I understand why the fandom is divided about her, but I think there can and should be a difference between a character's personality and a character being poorly written. I think they really dropped the ball on Grace since she returned. I have always seen her as a complicated woman. On the one hand, she's very smart. She's capable. She has her shit moooostly together, but at the same time she's a bit of a wildcard and prepared to use her FUCKING GUN to say no means fucking no, you son of a bitch. She can be snarky, bitter, and vengeful. She's quick-witted and can push back at Tommy when he's being.....well, Tommy. On the OTHER hand, she is also so, so sweet. Grace prefers peace and love and family. She likes to be surrounded by good. She likes to DO good. She likes order and has a tendency to follow the rules, both social and according to her job. I think because she's a female character, this comes across as boring and unimaginative because that's what's expected of women (and I don't blame anyone for thinking this, but realistically we ALL know a pretty girl who's a total sweetheart). But I think she had a lot of potential as the lawful good reluctantly drawn into Tommy's chaos after her return, and unfortunately she was fridged because that moved the plot along. I do think it was the right decision for Tommy's resulting breakdown, but not giving us the time to remake that connection with her and learn what she's all about now that she has it all??? and then violently rip her away before many people have the chance to form an emotional attachment???? mannnn cmon. Overall I understand the criticism, because I too didn't really like her at first, but I honestly do think she gets the short end of the stick from the fandom because she's a woman. If we saw a male character doing the same thing (or, hell, also doing what society expects of him. cough cough) I can almost guarantee you that the reaction would not be the same.

💚: AUGH anyway. next one. My favorite character is Alfieee. I already had a bit of a ramble on TGoAS earlier and the details I wanted to analyze more from there, but besides that trauma, I think people honestly give him too much credit for thinking ahead. He is SUCH a good bullshitter. He schemes, yes, but many of those agreements with enemies and planned betrayals are kinda spur of the moment, entirely based on whether or not someone offers him something he likes more. I think the most planning we've seen him do to my memory has been getting Arthur arrested, and it really was mostly Alfie's love for theatrics and excitement that pulled it all together. Tommy figures him out quick as hell, but sees him as an equal. In my mind that means yes, he is incredibly smart and ambitious and a stellar leader, but he's a habitual enough liar that it's not hard to figure him out. Plus, as cute and ursine as his little quirks are, he's no teddy bear. That man is a serious danger and is more than ready to go grizzly mode at a moment's notice (i have thoughts on c-ptsd there too but that's for another time). I love the way people interpret him, because he IS silly and sassy and fun, but he also is kind of a motherfucker and more than a little recklessly impulsive. It's what "kills" him, after all! I've read some really good fics that tap into his rage and impulsivity while also giving him the room to feel disgust at his actions and experience the brutal gift of hindsight (as much as he hides the human part of himself, the section in TGoAS about his nightmares was impactful), but I can't remember which ones they were atm. Also, this is so niche, but I don't know how good of a dad he really would be. I think he'd be FUN, but I don't know about "good at parenting". But I'm gonna ignore that because it's the less fun hypothetical and I like to have fun sglkjslkgjsdl

The Night It All Happened

Corey Cunningham x fem!reader

Authors Note: I am sorry in advance cause this is kinda sad lmfao. This is a flashback in the Corey series, before the series started.

October 2019

You were sitting in your class, listening to whatever your lecture your professor was teaching on. You stared at the clock just waiting for it to hit six in the evening. Your prayers were answered once the lecture was over, and you gathered your things to head out. You were putting away your folder full of notes when someone came up to your desk. You didn’t even need to look up to know who it was.

“Hey Cunningham,” you said with a smile, looking up at your friend Corey. He beamed back at you, “hey, so I managed to get a babysitting gig tonight.” “Congrats! Try to make sure the kid doesn’t eat too much candy,” you teased. He snorted, “no promises.” You grabbed your stuff and got out of your seat, making some room for Corey to join you at your side as the two of you walked out of the classroom.

“It’s for Mrs. Allen. She needed someone last minute to babysit her kid Jeremy,” he explained, “figured I wasn’t gonna do much besides passing out Halloween candy.” You nodded, “that’s fair, you wanna come over after you’re done? Later I mean.” Corey smiled, “I’d love to. I’ll text you as soon as I’m done.” He looked at the time on his phone, “I should probably head home and get ready to go. She needs me to be there in around 30 minutes.” “Alright, have fun Corey, we’ll talk later,” you said, moving towards the parking lot outside. He waved as you went, watching you go with that goofy grin of his.

You looked back, your gaze lingering on him a bit too long. You wouldn’t tell anyone, let alone him, but you had been harboring a bit of a crush on Corey for a while now. How could you not? He was sweet, caring, and absolutely adorable. You sighed as you started your car, thinking it wasn’t meant to be. Things never worked out in the love department, so you just kept everything to yourself. Besides, what if Corey liked someone else? He told you everything and you hadn’t heard anything about him having a crush. But still, what if? You backed out of your parking space before heading home as the the last light of the day faded away.

You didn’t do much Halloween night, mostly just passing out candy on your porch. You didn’t wear a costume, but you wore a horror movie shirt and called it a night. Maybe if Corey came over you’d wear something else. You let out a small chuckle at the idea of wearing the bustier you had gotten at Spirit Halloween last week, and maybe with a cute skirt. Oh god, no you couldn’t do that. Corey would literally turn into a tomato. But it would be kind of funny.

Your thoughts were interrupted by a text message from your mom.

We need to call.

You gave your mom a call, feeling concerned. She never called you too often. “Hello? Mom?” you asked. “Baby, I- I just got off the phone with Mrs. Cunningham…it’s Corey…he.” Your heart dropped, “he what?”

“He killed a kid. He…killed a kid.”

Your mom didn’t have much information, saying that there was an accident or something when Corey was babysitting. “I don’t think it was on purpose, but they took him down to the station. It doesn’t look good,” your mom continued as you tried to hold yourself back from crying. You barely heard what else she said before goodbyes were said. You hung up, the sobs you had been holding back coming up all at once. You didn’t even notice you had dropped the candy bowl full of candy on the porch. You just knew that you felt awful, like throwing up. All the plans you had for the night were gone.

Once your breakdown was over, you glanced at the ground and saw the candy all strewn about. You quickly dropped down and began picking it all up, dumping it back into the bowl. Once that was done, you went inside and turned off your porch light. You didn’t even bother leaving a note outside saying that there was no more candy.

Halloween was over.
