A Sibling Sacrifice
The JL were having a normal, for them at least, meeting when suddenly a portal rips opens and spits out a young teen with snow white hair and glowing green eyes and he's carrying a bundle as he's stumbles out and lands on his knees in the meeting room.
The two main odd things about this kid was floating above the kid's head was a crown made of stars, ice, and the colors shifting like a aurora borealis and the bundle in his arms was strangely made of stars somehow, almost like a blanket of galaxies plucked out of the cosmos.
Before anyone of them could say or do anything, the kid turns around and screams towards the portal as he scrambles for it.
"JAZZ NO DON'T DO THIS! I CAN STILL FIGHT THEM! NONONONO!" but before he could reach the portal it snaps close.
The kid lands again onto the floor when he doesn't reach it in time, pleading for the damn thing to open again, and the bundle in his arms begins to cry from the jolting and noise.
The baby crying was the only thing that stopped the kid from pleading and instead focused his attention on the bundle in his arms.
"I'm sorry, I'm so damn sorry Ellie. I should had gotten us out of there sooner, I should had saved you bef- I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything..."
Those were the rushed, raw words the kid said down to the bundle. The kid curled inwards a bit, to both shield the baby, who was calming down somewhat into tiny cry hiccups, and for himself.
Those with advanced hearing could tell the kid was still whispering apologizes under his breath as he held the baby close.
"I'm sorry everyone, I'm so sorry. I tried, I tried so hard to save everyone but in the end... I'm sorry- everyone's gone... I'm sorry."

When Daisy half-sarcastically calls Coulson “dad” in that one episode of S7 when they’re searching for Enoch, is one of my favourite little moments from the entire show, I can’t lie (phildaisy are more important to me than anything I swear).
From that, I also love the idea of Sousa hearing that and assuming that Coulson is actually her dad. And later on, at some point, he says something to her in regards to it, like “oh, your father.”
And Daisy is like, “huh?”
Then Sousa clarifies that he means Coulson, because “is he not your dad?” Bonus points if he assumed May was her mother too (obv before he meets Jiaying), because wbk May and Coulson bicker like an old married couple, ESPECIALLY in S7, so who wouldn’t assume.
And Daisy would have to be like, “oh no, they’re not my parents. Not really…” and elaborate on what they mean to her while Sousa listens and just ahH I think it’d be a really sweet little moment.
We were simply robbed of more Daisy/Coulson/May family moments. They’re honestly my most favourite part of the show and we deserved MORE.

om gosh just- alister getting into some trouble with some mean people but then, out of no where- a odd looking & powerful Zoroark (Hisuian) comes out to protect them! and they're badass! they got one eye damaged, their body is littered in scars and maybe a arm is missing? they been through some tough stuff but they see Allister as one of their children. and surely, allister has them on their team now? also, what would the other gym leaders think of his new pal?
"How does a kid like him get a gym leader position?"
"It should've been me, I have way better ghost types!"
"And he's always wearing that creepy mask. What's he hiding from us?"
Allister could feel his heart hammering in his chest every minute he was out in public. All he wanted to do was take a quiet walk through the Slumbering Weald and not draw too much attention to himself.
He really didn't want to be seen by anyone right now.
It's already been a bad enough day for him; the last thing he needed were cameras and phones being shoved into his face--he's gotten enough of that during today's interview.
He was asked how he felt about Victor/Gloria defeating him in the championship tournament, and he didn't have a solid answer. He only found himself getting upset over the whole thing again.
Even though Leon always told him to take his defeats in stride..it was still hard.
So he cut the interview short and ran away, making it clear he wanted to be alone without the company of bodyguards.
Why would he need them when he had Pokémon like Gengar? They're the only ones who really understood him. They never gave him weird looks for talking to the dead.
Yet he suddenly began to second-guess his decision, considering he now had no shelter from the comments of passerbys.
They doubted him all because he was the youngest of the gym leaders and wasn't as confident as the rest of them..and it wasn't right. They didn't know him like the others did.
He worked so hard to get to where he is now....not to be heckled and ridiculed for just being a kid.
Luckily, the Slumbering Weald was rather quiet at this hour-
"Use Thief!"
A flash of black and orange suddenly dashed in front of Allister, causing him to help as he stumbled forwards and collapsed to his knees, scraping them hard into the stone. The shock of the surprise attack led to his mask falling off and clattering to the ground.
Before he could reach for it, a Thievul snatched it up in its jaws, darting back to someone who was whistling for it.
He looked up, a hand over his face as he stared at the duo who attacked him: a teenaged trainer boring a smug grin, and their dark type by their side, holding his mask hostage.
And they weren't alone, as another trainer showed up with their Obstagoon, who took the mask from Thievul and wore it on its own face as mockery, laughing.
"You better give that back!" He cried out, horrified and angry. "Y-You two don't know..who you're messing with.."
"I think we already know." The Thievul's trainer sneered cruelly. "You're just a weak little kid. Did you know that you're the most unpopular gym leader in this week's poll?" They waved around their rotomphone
"..I-I don't care about popularity.."
"Pssh. That's a bloody lie if I've ever heard one." Obstagoon's trainer huffed. "Ya really showed your fans how selfish you actually are. Ya wouldn't stick around for autographs and just ran off...how do ya think Leon and the rest of 'em will feel when they hear about that?"
"Stop it..please." Allister begged, his hand grasping Gengar's dusk ball in preparation.
"I doubt they'd want someone like you representin' the-"
"VUL!!"
Out of nowhere, a blast of dark purplish energy careened into Theivul, causing it to slam into the nearest tree and flop to the ground like a ragdoll. Its trainer looked bewildered, confused as to where that shot came from.
Then a blur of white appeared and snatched the mask straight out of Obstagoon's hands, much to its shock as it looked all around...unable to see who it was.
But soon they all heard a spine-chilling howl, spinning their heads to find out that the source was you.
A white Zoroark standing in the fog.
Yet while you certainly looked like one, your hair was drastically different compared to the usual tied-back look of normal Zoroarks. Instead, it appeared as long shaggy wisps with red streaks waving all over the place and covering one of your eyes.
Not only that, but your whole body looked as though it's been through the toughest of battles: scars littered your torso, some patches of fur were entirely missing, and--to Allister's shock and sadness--you only had one arm. The other was nothing more than a stump.
Even so, you weren't backing down as you stalked towards him, the bullies, and their Pokémon, teeth gnashed in anticipation.
Thievul and Obstagoon both took up protective stances, ready to attack on their trainers' commands.
Except..
No commands were uttered for a few long moments, and they looked back to see the sheer horror plastered on each of the humans' faces.
"I-It's...a...a....IT'S A ZOMBIE!!!" Thievul's trainer shrieked, forcing their fox partner back into its ball. "So the rumors are true..y-you really CAN summon the dead!!"
"...huh..?" Allister blinked in immense confusion.
He didn't summon you..
"W-We were just kiddin'. You're great!! You're worthy of wearin' that ghost badge!!" The other stammered, recalling Obstagoon. "We won't bother ya..e-ever again...just...."
They took one look at you, and as you growled lowly, the two trainers screamed and ran away.
"WAAAAAAHHH!!!!"
"DON'T EAT OUR BRAINS!!!"
After their voices faded and Allister watched them disappear for good, he looked back up at you in wonder. No longer was he covering his face, so you could see his eyes practically sparkling.
"They were wrong." He whispered. "You're no zombie. You're...the Hisuian Zoroark I've read about."
Of course you were. He's heard about this variant from what he believed were just myths of the Hisui region that existed long before Sinnoh. From what he knew about them, and judging by your current appearance...the agony you suffered in life was also reflected in your death.
Had he not been a ghost trainer with such a unique connection to the type, he would've thought you were a zombie, too.
As your gaze pierced through his soul, he remained on the ground, feeling as though he got hit by a frozen status effect. He didn't dare to move, knowing that a Hisuian Zoroark's anger was not to be trifled with.
Perhaps you saw him as just another human to take your rage out on.
For you likely held the same grudge as all the others of your kind...
One that was bitter, eternal, and cold as the frost that took your life after you've spent all your energy and hatred in battle; your scars and lost arm were simply the products of you flinging yourself into vicious fights with humans and Pokémon alike--no self-preservation instincts to be found.
Allister had no clue what you were thinking, but as you suddenly crouched down in front of him, he flinched back, arms shielding his face in fear of what you might do.
"Zo...."
"..wh-what..?" Uncovering his face, he was stunned to see something familiar in your grasp being handed over to him:
His own mask.
Of course. He forgot you swiped it from that mean Obstagoon earlier.
Yet he didn't take it back right away, instead looking up at you and seeing nothing but warmth in your eyes. He noticed the one covered by your hair was blind, given the milky look and the deep scar that went through it.
Despite seeing how you've suffered countless hardships, likely endured an agonizing death, and came back out of pure spite and hatred for humans...
You reached deep into your cold, dead heart and rediscovered strength and kindness--both of which you used to protect this young ghost trainer when he needed it most.
You knew he wasn't like those who exiled you.
No.
He was a friend.
He reminded you of all your children back at home: the Zoruas who followed you in life, death, and the after..fearful of what they've become, but feeling safe when you were around.
You couldn't reach them anymore, yet you wanted to protect someone. Anyone.
And you found Allister.
A small sniffle and whimper snapped you out of your thoughts, noticing the tears rolling down the young boy's face. You frowned a little, looking down at the mask.
Was this not his?
"D-Don't worry, I'm....so happy, Z-Zoroark..thank you.." He whispered shakily, smiling as he took it back, putting it on to hide the rest of his tears. "I..d-don't know how you got here, but you saved me. You put those bullies in their place. Nobody takes me seriously as a ghost type gym leader..much less a trainer..but you do, don't you?"
"Ark-ark.." Nodding, your gaze went to the dusk ball clipped to his belt, and you tapped on it with a rugged claw.
At first, he flinched at the sudden motion, before realizing you just wanted to see the pokeball. "Oh, this? I-It's a dusk ball..a version of a pokeball that helps me catch Pokémon at night. Or in caves.." He showed it to you, allowing you to sniff it curiously-
Only to accidentally boop your nose against the button, causing it to open and capture you.
At first Allister panicked, dropping the dusk ball to the ground as he watched it shake several times, scared out of his mind.
A million thoughts were running through his head right now:
Was it going to break?
Were you going to be angry?
Did you want to be captured?
What if-
*click*
'Huh...?' Bewildered, he looked down to see that the accidental catch was successful. And he picked up the dusk ball, opening it and letting you back out, expecting you to be enraged.
Yet..you seemed content.
You looked surprised, sure, but you soon smiled upon seeing him and nodded your head.
Indeed, you wished to become his partner Pokémon.
"O-Okay..I guess you're coming with me from now on." Allister quietly laughed, brimming with joy on the inside. "But first you should meet Gengar. I think..you two will get along well."
"Zor...ark, ark!"

honestly one of my biggest disappointments with the black widow movie was how they tried to make kiddo!natasha into this, like, ~quirky~ blue-haired kid with a fairly normal childhood before they had to go back to the red room. when like. aren't you guys interested in a natasha who has never once known a normal life and yet can parody it perfectly? don't you remember the horrified delight of seeing the red room girls learning american english from copying snow white? why are you so insistent on giving natasha "real parents" and an attachment to yelena based on a childhood in OHIO when you can instead talk about natasha living in ohio as just as much of an undercover agent as her "parents". don't you see that the best horror of natasha pointing a gun at her handlers is not that she's holding a gun but that she knows how to use it???

I wish Voyager had explored why Tuvok chose to go into Security upon re-entering Starfleet. He was a science ensign in 'Flashback' so it seems he made a conscious decision to be in security and it's such a potentially interesting field for a Vulcan since (to my knowledge) every other main Starfleet Vulcan introduced is a scientist first and foremost.

You look just like your mother…
Tumblr media
Pairing - Father & daughter - Mia & Arron
Tumblr media
Summary: First meetings aren’t that easy…
Note: Out of the 4 father figures in her life, Arron is on the bottom of that list oops 😅 and Coulson is on the VERY top 😁
——
When she woke up, all she felt like a pounding headache near the side of her head.
It wasn’t pretty.
Last thing she remembered was fighting a set of goons and being chased out before blasted across a field. It was a blur overall.
“You gotta stop waking up in strange places after being blacked out, Mia…” She said to herself sitting on the warm bed.
These past few weeks have been nothing short of spectacular for her. A headache, literally. Getting her abilities after that accident, hiding them away from everyone around her, going on missions and being unable to control them for any kind of work related issues. Hell, according to sources she was actually useful for once.
A human life detector, they called her.
Pathokinesis. That’s what they come to call her range of symptoms. Being able to sense, manipulate and understand others emotions to her advantage.
Some would call her an empathetic woman now. Harsh truth though, but with everything that happened in recent history, she became a bit darker than her usual tone at times.
Now here she stood—sat in a room where it seemed almost impossible to believe. The room had brownish walls and a red accent wall, but the doorway had a bright white outline that led to a set of greenery just outside. The sun peaked through the windows as well.
Where am I? She wondered, looking over her shoulder to a small nightstand that held her hands. Gun, rings, bracelets, and her phone. She looked down realizing she was in lighter clothes, not her usual fashion of black pants and brown shirts. Nor her red sneakers. She was in gray socks.
“You look just like your mother…” said a male griff voice that held a smile to his tone.
In came a tall man in a black jacket, gray t-shirt, jeans and boots. His hair was overcast with the sunlight of the morning sky, to his dark hair looked a shade lighter. His eyes were dark brown but his smile never faltered as he entered.
Mia quickly reached for her gun and raised it toward the man in front of her. She glared, sitting up and sliding down the bed to stand up.
“Okay, wacko. Who are you? And how do you know my mother?” She quipped softly, as she asked him.
He held up his hand in defense and shook his head, “I should’ve said a different sentence, huh? I see my reputation paid for no expense. Good. Please, put the gun down, I just want to talk.”
“Not happening. Start talking, name now.” She replied rapidly.
“Fine. Arron Morse. But my line of work has called me…”
“The Hornet…”
“Ah, so you heard of me?”
“They said you died. But you had a skilled shooting range, take out the target, in and out from afar.”
Arron Morse. Bobbi Morse oldest brother to date. In the spy world, he was a skilled sniper and interrogator. Often going on trips to help others seek refuge, take down drug cartels and other illegal weapons with his crew. Sometimes he would collect and destroy information when needed. Depending upon what the job needed him to do.
Despite his tough exterior and issues of sometimes challenging or abandoning others, for reasons he can only describe himself. He was a decent player in the field and cared for others. But he never really stuck around, not wanting to drag others into his life and limit himself to just his best interests.
Or that’s at least what she was told.
Tumblr media
All Arron saw in front of him was the little girl he seen from afar years ago. The daughter he never knew existed or claimed to say he knew. He watched for a long period of time before settling down to speaking again.
But his daughter was beautiful.
“Look, kid, I am not going to sugar coat this. You were on the fence and got hurt, so one of the guys here brought you in.’ He said simply.
“I am fine.” She said softly despite, her slight discomfort on her hip and shoulders from the fall.
“How about this? You go ahead with your ideas and i do mine. I just want to talk.”
“Again, not gonna sugarcoat this, angel. But we’re family.”
“One of Bobbi’s brothers?..my father?”
“Correct.”
“I’m not going here for a family reunion, dad. I got one—had one, depending on who you ask. Why are you here? How are you still alive?”
“I don’t need to explain everything to do. But long story short, after a mission gone south in the Pacific, I realized what I was really doing wrong on that trip and couldn’t make it. So I did not complete my assignment, instead I went undercover and took the dive into other things—work. I did not want to be involved in SHIELD anymore.” He told her.
She nodded, “As for Bobbi, me and mom?”
“Bobbi was better off without me and we barely had a good relationship over the years, I knew she was better off doing her own thing. As for mother…we were were in a rocky patch and when I returned a year later, she was with someone else…she moved on. Besides, me and May were never gonna work out.”
“Mom always did say, you never find your father..your father is the one to find you.”
“We were young, and whatever happened was in the past—”
“Did you know about me? Hmm? What about me?”
Arron sighed deeply, “…yeah, I figured out about you. It doesn’t take an idiot to notice that you’re their kid. Before you ask, I didn’t exactly stayed away and abandoned your mom. I just knew she wouldn’t want me around again after I left.”
“You’re rather open about this, more or less…” Mia said bluntly as she listened, slowly lowering her weapon slightly.
“Let’s just say I had time to think about it over the last couple of years. And I understand if you want to shoot me, I would.”
That caused a small scoff to escape Mia’s lip as a half smile appeared on her face. Arron gave her a half smile in return, still annoyed that she held the gun and he knew she wasn’t going to accept him that easily. He wasn’t exactly asking for acceptance or forgiveness of any kind.
“You didn’t think of trying to contact me?” She asked still holding her gun.
Arron shook his head, “No.”
“I would have at least liked to know…”
“That your daddy wasn’t dead? That your daddy wasted his time doing things instead of being there for his daughter? I can go all night!”
“I deserve a chance to know! Bobbi barely talked about you! I—”
“No, you did not! You had no right to be near me, I killed men and traveled a lot. I am not the father you wanted to bring to show and tell. I did the right thing here by staying away.”
Suddenly Mia’s powers went online. Her eyes flickered caching onto as many emotions coursing through Arron’s mind then gasped looking away, almost trembling the gun out of her hands.
She understood, or least she thought she did, onto why he did it. She didn’t need explanation for the rest.
“You have abilities too..you barely use them, one of the reasons why your were so good at your job…and you fell in love years ago..that’s how you ended up here…that’s where I am?” She mumbled in a sharp sigh and grasping all the feelings and throughts she could.
Arron was impressed by her ability to grasp it all and slowly nodded, “How did you know about the woman part?”
“I never said woman…but a man like you doesn’t end up in a pretty position like this, unless some woman came into his path.” She said, slight snark.
He smirked, “Clever girl.”
Amelia nodded and looked around, “Look I don’t need to know who she is or anything. I just need to get out of here and call Coulson.”
“Where do you think you’re going? You’re injured and here for a reason.”
“Look, Arron, dad, whatever, thanks for the save but I will be getting on your way. Bye.”
Mia did a peace sign with her fingers walking around before stumbling and almost falling down on the floor. Luckily Arron caught her bed she can hit the wooden floor and gently place her on the bed.
She was stubborn, understanding on what he did and whatnot, but she wasn’t going to stay in some unknown place with her newly found father.
She had Ben Parker, her dad who passed away and currently, as of right now, she had Phil Coulson and her friends.
In her eyes, Phil cares for her more than Arron did. He actually went out and bought her into a new place to live out doing something she wanted.
“Mia.” He started
“Amelia.” She corrected him, apologizing for her harsh tone.
“Amelia, kid, look, I am only trying to help you and your friend Skye here.”
“Skye? How do..?”
“She was brought in as well, she’s okay. She’s off doing something now. Try and give me a chance.”
“Why should I? I am not staying long. I don’t even know where I am exactly…”
Arron sighed, she was stubborn enough to give him attitude but he couldn’t blame her for it. Nor was he gonna stand out easily.
“I’ll give you an answer then. This place is called Afterlife, in Nepal.” He said simply, “The leader here name is Jiaying. She is a fellow Inhuman, or as some would call them, mutants.”
Mia nodded, “…she is the woman you love..?”
“I…yes. I care for her. It’s a long story.”
“Arron Morse fell in love with a woman named Jiaying..?”
Mia knew she getting on his nerves but she just needed to repeat it out loud and put it all together, to understand where she is.
“Sorry..” She mumbled and gestured for him to continue.
He nodded, “Yeah, so…it’s a lot to explain and I will do that later. But angel, I need you to understand that I am here to do a job and you stumble upon my path here today…can you do me one favor?”
“Depends, what is it?”
“Try and let me get to know you. Then you can be on your merry way and we never have to see each other again?”
“…sure, why not? But I’m not exactly calling you dad.”
~~~
That’s all folks! I know it’s kinda all over the place. But I hope you like it.
Gonna change her father’s powers 🤔 any ideas let me know
Fun Fact! Jeremy’s FC is in this episode too 😉 along with a few other things
I tried drawing young mithrun but ended up with an attempt for a kbms lovechild so uh:
Tumblr media
MYRTLE (84)
Half-elf/born in Melini
Assigned female at birth/non-binary
Grew in tallman pace until they suddenly stopped growing at 20 years old
Currently working for their uncle (Kerensil Trading Company) in Melini but wants to be an adventurer
Close with their parents as a child but developed a strained relationship with Mithrun and Mithrun's struggles with rying and finding desires (worsened when Kabru died but they're both all good now)
More stuff under the cut:
Myrtle was actually an 'accident' and Mithrun carried them for 4 years (someone shared a HC that elves have a gestation period of 4-5 years so I'm borrowing that lol)
Myrtle spent most of their childhood in the Golden Kingdom and was visited by his uncle (Mithrun's brother) and Milsilril (who they call Auntie but at one point called her 'Grandma'). They are more familiar with Tallman/Golden Kingdom and Utayan culture, but not acquainted with their elven roots (they actually find Western elves intimidating)
Kabru did his very best sharing what he remembers of his hometown; Mithrun had assimilated into the Golden Kingdom way of life at this point and found some (most) of his elven noble ways too cumbersome
Myrtle was a kind child who grew up doted and loved by his parents and relatives. And they love their family with the same ferocity. But growing up, Myrtle was quickly made aware that his father, Mithrun, was 'not normal' - in most days, he was okay; in others, he struggled to get out of bed. In rare days, Mithrun was completely catatonic, and seeing Mithrun unresponsive, staring at the distance, scared Myrtle so much that he became somewhat of a troublemaker child, so that Mithrun always has to act and respond and not have anytime to be lost in his thoughts.
At some point, Myrtle 'disliked' Mithrun for the way that he is, not understanding his situation at all. Myrtle thinks that Mithrun does not love them enough to be better, feels ashamed that they cannot do anything to help Mithrun be better. But Myrtle's feelings on Mithrun comes from a place of love and ignorance - love because they do genuinely love their Father; and ignorance because they were never told why Mithrun was like that (Myrtle heard of what the dungeons were, but Kabru nor Mithrun never bothered to tell of the demon, Mithrun being the dungeon lord, or the full extent of the destruction of Utaya)
Once Myrtle became aware of their parent's pasts, they understood them a lot better.
Also thinking that a point of friction that Myrtle had with his parents was their dream of becoming an adventurer and fighting monsters (which were still rampant, though weaker) and Kabru insisting that they choose any other dream but that. Myrtle in their teenage years found Kabru too strict, too protective, not that Mithrun wasn't. But Mithrun at least was willing to teach them how to fight; Kabru made it clear Myrtle was not allowed near even a walking mushroom. Learning that Kabru was from Utaya, and what exactly happened in Utaya, made Myrtle understand why.
Eventually though Kabru concedes, knowing that Myrtle is much more capable, and surrounded by their own friends and comrades who will support them. I think in the last years of his life, Kabru made sure to prepare everything that will help Myrtle in his adventuring journey if they chose to embark once he is gone - such as speaking with guilds all over the content, ensuring a diplomatic immunity for Myrtle when they're in ally countries, writing an annotated adventure guide just for them, etc.
They work as a Vice-Manager of the Kerensil Trading Company (Mithrun's brother's merchant empire), but that's just a gloried name for the position of intern. Mithrun technically manages the Kerensil Trading Company branch in Melini, and is being pestered by Mithrun's brother to take over the main branch so that Mithrun will move back to the West. Mithrun is unmoved so Mithrun's brother has plans to declare Myrtle as 'heir' of the Kerensil merchant empire, all for the purpose of having his brother and niece move to the West (Mithrun's brother does not see the point of Mithrun and Myrtle staying at the Golden Kingdom any longer after Kabru's death)
(The beauty mark next to Myrtle's right eye is something that they got from Kabru's mother)
I was mulling over Harry Potter recently and I think one of the reasons it doesn't really appeal that much to me is the worldbuilding is not my cup of tea. In the context we are given wizards and witches are far too powerful to be hiding from Muggle nations. Wizards have the capability to mind control, memory wipe, easily create Muggle-repelling charms over entire locations that confuse and disorientate, as well as have teleportation, portkeys, Floo powder, spatial magic, invisibility, etc. Wizards sharing a planet with Muggles is positively Lovecraftian, like Cthulhu being just next door and closer.
With basic evolutionary patterns, Darwinism, the fact wizards can be disappointingly human and their leanings to fascist elements in their history (so many Anti-Muggle Dark Lords), they'd have wiped Muggles out by the BCE period, or at least not be hiding from them in a way that's the equivalent of the United States hiding from Monaco. It wouldn't take that many wizards, and in the book we are provided no evidence of our Muggle tech being able to withstand something as dynamic, tricky and reality warping as magic.
Power Dynamics
Tumblr media
"They can strike anywhere at any time before anyone knows it."
The power dynamic from what we are shown in the books are very wonky and infinitesimally so unequal one begins to wonder if owls hide from slugs. Perhaps if JK Rowling had depowered wizards more by incorporating clearer weakness and faults in the magic system, such as perhaps no apparition (I mean, they already have portkeys, Floo powder, brooms, greedy wizards), more limits to the mind control like showing Muggles can fight it off, made wards and Muggle-repelling charms more fragile (maybe have that they can only be set up in certain geographical places either choking with magic or idk related to runic stuff and ley lines), as well as perhaps indicate that the average shielding charms can't withstand heavy kinetic onslaught from a heavy duty weapon like an AK-47, etc., it might have felt more understandable why the Muggle World and Wizarding World have the relationship they do.
Because, in the canon, we are given no concrete reasons why the wizarding world chooses to hide other than Muggles being a bother, probably asking for cures to cancer or something. In the canon, we are never presented with any Muggle technology that justifies the Wizarding World being under threat if the Statute of Secrecy breaks. We can speculated, but we can speculate either way depending on our mood. You'd think this would be more defined since the conflict centralises on Wizards and Muggles (including their offspring) existing.
Ethical Concerns For Mugs
Tumblr media
"With this rep, I guess we deserve to be mindwiped whatever our consent."
Regarding certain implications in the books, there are a number of ethical concerns that don't feel they're given the weight and attention they deserve considering the themes. One is the overuse of memory charms, a mental violation which are hinted to cause brain damage. Considering how much wizards obliviate and violate Muggles' minds as well as cover up their deaths, that's practically fridge horror. Wizards, both good and bad, also often subvert Muggle democracy and freedom of information, and are quite authoritarian and devil-may-care about this. The Harry Potter narrative never really fully tackles this or shows any real critiques or changes in regards to the Statute of Secrecy and Muggles.
Considering the over all message of the books is anti-authoritarianism, anti-fascism, freedom and even saying Muggles aren't 'lesser' beings, these actions contradicts the themes and kind of makes all the wizards look pretty morally bankrupt when they continue to do this even after the 17 Years Later epilogue. In all honesty, this actually impacts the characterisation of our protagonists in a way I don't particularly like, especially since Hermione is Minister For Magic for a period of time.
Muggles & It's Just Fantasy
Tumblr media
"Hi boring people we're fighting an entire conflict over, just passing through."
Suspension of disbelief is a tricky thing and so is the way a writer earns it. I think it would be more okay if Harry Potter was a purely separate fantasy world similar to Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, but the author has Muggle society (aka our 'logical' world) develop the exact same way despite sharing the planet with the logic-breaking magical world since the dawn of time and evolution. With all the factors shown in HP, these powerful, reality-warping wizards would fuck up our history and society so much we Muggles would either be dead or coughing out live elephants every time we ate a salad on a regular basis.
Over all, I feel the Muggles need to be more of a threat and have more going for them to explain why the wizards are hiding from them. Otherwise a wizard could teleport around the land of Muggles and just put Muggle-repelling charms on the British Parliament, all the nation's hospitals, police stations, banks, etc. and just watch the chaos. Okay, next stop, the Nuclear power stations and missile silos. By the Muggle world existing it intrinsically forces reality into a fantasy that doesn't want it.
