It's not mentioned in this clip, but the cheerleader who was critically shot was born with only one lung. So she was her parents' miracle baby and wasn't expected to be able to do any sports... ends up beating the odds and becomes a competitive cheerleader, only for something completely stupid and nonsensical like this to happen!

And it is so fucking scary like. Going back to the 20-year-old who was killed in her vehicle while backing out of the wrong driveway-- Do you KNOW how often I get lost on a rural road and have to turn around in someone's driveway??? There are no other turnarounds! And fucking everyone here has guns. Country folks especially!!

And getting in the wrong car??? I go to the wrong vehicle without realizing all the time!! Because my vehicle looks like so many others!! And it's mine, so imagine being a kid in a carpool!!

"SELF-DEFENCE IS PLEA IN SHOOTING AT SOO," Toronto Star. October 5, 1933. Page 4. --- Slain Man Had Been Acquitted of Killing Prisoner's Brother ---- Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Oct. 5. - Positive identification of Frank Piromelli as the man who shot Frank Vena last April was made by Joseph Falbo at the murder trial of Piromelli yesterday.

Falbo, chief crown witness, denied the suggestion of C. W. Bell, К.С., Hamilton, defence counsel, that Vena threatened Piromelli before the shooting. Falbo admitted serving a ten-year term in Italy for killing a man.

Vena was shot shortly after he had been acquitted of slaying Tony Piromelli, brother of the defendant.

"You knew Frank Vena had killed Tony Piromelli," Mr. Bell told Falbo.

"And yet you stood there with him, you self-confessed killer, in a vacant doorway, waiting on Frank Piromelli. Is it not true Vena said, as Piromelli came up, 'Now you will get what your brother Tony got?"

Falbo denied there had been any conversation between the men before the shooting and said he did not see a gun in Vena's hand.

Was there ever a news event in our lifetimes that the media fumbled more aggressively than Columbine. They genuinely got every single detail wrong

From reporting that they killed someone for saying she believed in God (a different girl who said she did survived) to not reporting that they sought out students of color while yelling racial slurs - on Hitler's birthday & a day after the anniversary of OKC and Waco - while promoting the idea that you have to watch out for loner bullied nerds. Even though later research shows that the shooters were, in fact, bullies themselves, who had a wide social circle, and they were, you know, Nazis motivated by racism and not the video game Doom (1993).

It's a generational fuck-up, the GOAT of bad reporting bc it's still with us. The narrative of persecution after "she said yes" is a huge reason the evangelical right is like how it is today (they made a biopic that uncritically repeated it just a couple years ago!) & they still push the idea that it's primarily victims who do that sort of thing and not aggressors & people still shared that stupid video of Marilyn Manson saying he'd "listen" until a couple years ago (though the shooters being abusive Nazi creeps would uh, not diminish Marilyn Manson's desire to befriend them, I feel)

Wilkinson ---- Son Says She Was Threatened By His Uncle ---- Glace Bay, N.S., Nov. 27. - (CP) - Search went forward to-day for the weapon that sent a bullet crashing through Mrs. William Wilkinson's head as she sat in a neighbour's room Thursday morning.

Police considered having a diver explore the flooded Hub colliery, suspected as a possible hiding place of the death gun. A mysterious occurrence about the old shaft on the night of the murder led to this belief.

A miner walking homeward in the early morning darkness told Chief Joseph McInnis he had seen a car drive up to the pit mouth. It stopped for a few moments and then the door slammed and it moved away.

The weapon was believed by police to be an important factor in their investigation. Mrs. Wilkinson was shot with a rifle, and a flattened soft-nose bullet was found lying on the floor near her body. Simultaneously with the murder, her husband's hunting rifle disappeared.

Brother-in-Law Held To-day Walter Wilkinson, the husband's brother, was held on a murder charge. Evidence submitted at the preliminary hearing Saturday told of quarrels between the dead woman and her brother-in-law and of a "row" in the Wilkinson home the night of her death,

Thirteen-year-old Douglas Wilkinson, who saw his mother killed, said Walter had threatened to shoot her. Before they fled to Daniel McLeod's home they had locked themselves in a bedroom and barricaded the door. He was not sure whether his uncle was carrying a gun.

I feel like comic writers and some fans have forgotten that Young Justice is mostly about the girls. The main storylines were about Secret/Greta, Cissie, and Anita. The boys were there but they had their own runs. Take Young Justice Dark Crisis, yeah it's all about the boys IF you only read the first 5 ish comics. After that it's either big comic events or about the girls. Really the girls are the main characters of Young Justice, the boys are there to draw people in.
