universally applicable problem solving guidelines:
are you making up a guy in your head who will be angry at you for doing a thing?
stop doing that. the imaginary person who hates you should not be a determining factor in anything. "making a guy up to be mad at you" is a step below "making a guy up to be mad at" and it's not good for you.
are you denying yourself joy because of some arbitrary goal you are making yourself reach first?
stop doing that. you are allowed to be kind to yourself without needing to earn it, and putting things off for some nebulous "better time" to do them just means you won't ever do them. live a little.
if there is nothing stopping you from doing the thing right now, do it.
there are no workarounds for this you've just gotta do it. even if it sucks. especially if it sucks. sorry.

I've been trying to work up the nerve to at least give a little information about this, both because of embarrassment and anxiety, but my mom and I have lived with my abusive (verbally, emotionally and especially physically) grandpa since I was born and escaping that seems impossible for right now. We're just trying to survive. My mom can't get a job because he refuses to let her leave the house and I'm disabled. Anything helps, and please don't feel pressured. Thank you very much for reading.

Today I:
-made it up to campus for scanning even though I extremely did not want to
-took a spontaneous tea break with H&Al which was delightful
-had a call with someone about a potential artifact handling contract gig for a tight 2 week installation in late April and I hope it works out bc it would make me a lot of money in that short period of time which would be amazing
-picked up my meds. they took a while to be filled by the pharmacy this week which had been making me anxious so I am relieved to have them
-caught up with one of my cousins over text. he's in the middle stages of writing a musicology dissertation and it was good to hear how he's doing and share what's up with me after finishing
-did 20 min of yoga and felt stronger and lasted longer in the stretches of downward dog than I did yesterday

I can personally attest to the effectiveness of vinegar in treating mold. Bleach works for a while, but the longest lasting solution I've found was vinegar.
Thank you! We don't have any vinegar in the house, so tonight's solution will probably be bleach (because there is some in the garage), but if it starts being an issue again we'll try vinegar next time
Edit: looked up the bleach dilution ratio and according to clorox's website you aren't supposed to use it on unsealed wood? So uh. Y'all might be right that this is a vinegar kind of problem

Theres a lot of bike helmet discourse on my feed again and I'll weigh in just this once because this debate is really annoying from all parties involved.
Bike helmets are important and you should wear one. There is no good excuse to not wear a helmet. Also helmets are NOT the be-all and end-all to bike safety and its really tiring to see people in this debate pretend like it is. These two ideas can coexist.
Most cycling accidents that result in injury are two-sided accidents. Meaning there's multiple people involved, either multiple cyclists or a cyclist and another road user. Most of these two-sided accidents are cyclists getting hit by cars. Wearing a helmet in this scenario will greatly reduce the risk of injuries to your head, the thing where your brain is. So consider wearing one.
However, you're still greatly at risk of injury whether you wear a helmet or not. The part from your neck down to your waist is filled with very important organs and when you get hit by a car the part where you get punted is often that area.
So what does this mean? Wearing helmets is pointless cause you can get gravely injured anyway? No, not in the slightest. It means that the primary safety precaution to take to make cycling safer it to improve infrastructure for bikes and get them further away from cars, the thing most likely to kill you. However, that is a long-term solution that can't be implemented overnight in most places. So a short term solution would be the secondary safety precaution, wearing a fucking helmet cause doing something is better than doing nothing.

I think tumblr is going into a direction where it hates any way ai is implemented because its ai and i dont think that is a productive stance. Like you can criticize how its developed under horrible labor conditions and with little regard to the environment but this is not inherent to ai technology. It is perfectly possible to develop it while trying to do minimal harm to the environment and good labor conditions for the workers, but its not happening because it cuts into the profits of capitalist who are in charge of the development of ai technology. And tbh this applies to any piece of technology, from computers to water bottles. AI technology is already used for good purposes like aiding doctors to find cancer in mamograms and making art more accessible to physically disabled people but because its in the hands of capitalists it has the horrible shortcomings it currently has
