Many times I've written scenarios where PK lays curled up around PV when they're sick or hurt (either physically or emotionally), or simply just bonding and lounging together as wyrms do. Finally decided to draw how I imagine how in the hell he's able to curl up around them with their height difference. The answer: Compress! That! Bug!

Plus, that stretch that cats do, with their legs stretched out and covering their muzzles with their paws? So cute, I imagine PV does that often

Shipping aside, I'm surprised by how Laios + Marcille even as friends doesn't get as much fan attention as I expected considering how heavily the series focuses on their development? I consider Laios to be the protag and Marcille to be the secondary protag but I can see the argument for the two of them being dual protags especially starting from around Thistle's house arc / Marcille becoming the dungeon lord. The protagonists are party members who bond over losing and finding a loved one. They save each other multiple times and live with each other in the end. They get copious amounts of screentime together and separate. They clearly care for each other and love each other (in whatever way). And there's no forced romance.

Before I read the manga, I saw all the yuri on my TL and was like YESSSSSS I'M READING THIS FOR THE YURI WOOOOOO and finished the Red Dragon anime episodes like "wow that was soooo good and gay. Let me go on Tumblr to see what people are talking about— people are shipping Marcille and LAIOS??? Probably annoying straight people who cannot conceptualize a friendship between a man and woman 🙄". So I started out with a squick for the ship. I think the fan perception made me believe F/M is canon and anything else would be like queer erasure? Except I later learned no ship is canon and was genuinely confused when the manga started giving us L/M crumbs (like the succubus chapter) because I thought the shippers were pulling this ship from thin air lmao.

The more I read, the more I was like.... "okay.... why are they kinda... okay I get it now... why am I.... oh shit... I'm really in it now" and I apologise because I really get it now 😭 and it baffles me to see people who have seemingly finished the manga going "Laios and Marcille have NO CHEMISTRY their only line of connection is through Falin". Like, okay, maybe that was how they were at the beginning (but I would argue they have chemistry even from the first few chapters), but that's the POINT and we get to see them evolve and get closer because they both love and miss Falin. Laios moves on from being "Falin's brother" and Marcille moves on from being "Falin's friend". L+M know about each other's deepest, subconscious desires. Marcille lives with the siblings at the end. No matter the bond, they are the two most precious people to her.

I was still squicky about romantic L/M even at the succubus chapter (which I know is probably the starting point for a lot of shippers) but THEN THE RABBIT CHAPTER. And after that when the Canaries found Marcille and she immediately jumped onto Laios I was like "Oh fuck. I'm really in this now fuck fuck FUCK". (Nothing makes me get into a dynamic more than having an initially squicky reaction because I'll need to have a strong enough conviction to overcome the squick LOL)

Anyways. Seeing people being annoying and pissy about L/M only made me like L/M more 🤡 because at least the shippers appreciate their bond. I'm a little desperate here. Even their platonic bond is kind of a rarepair in the English fandom 💀

I'm so glad the anime is going at the pace it is now because this is only the beginning of the L+M development!!!! The anime onlies will understand later!!! I made the same mistake and judged too early and I'm sorry!!!! So many anime L+M moments and panels and crumbs yet to be seen 🥺

Anyways. Laios and Marcille's bond is absolutely central to the plot and character development. But I wouldn't have guessed that if I didn't read the manga and just based it off fan attention.

Some days you want to work hard on your little fanfic epics, spending hours detangling the lore and timeline and plans for stories crying in the night for an update, and some days you're sick off your rocker and just hacking a lung out while haze-blinking into the horizon as you halt reading someone else's fic summary mid-first sentence to hard left turn into a very blurry but detailed daydream about the dwarves thinking Bilbo died in the Battle of the Five Armies while Bilbo--unaware of a king and his company upending their own mountain in a fit of grief as he heals among the Men or Elves--ends up in an awkward Race to Mordor with a Sauron he is barely aware of alongside his own ironic Nine, made up of himself, Gandalf, Bard, Legolas, Tauriel, and a trio of dwarves (Dís, Gimli, Gimli's mom) plus an unexpected favorite cousin (Falco Chubb-Baggins) who all broke off from the first convoy of Blue Mountain immigrants to Erebor to go along and protect Bilbo.

Place bets now on how Thorin & Company hear of their burglar's survival and latest insanity (highest bids placed on the remaining Blue Mountain travelers passing along word vs a smarmy message from Thranduil), how quickly they shake off their shrouds of mourning and royal pseudo-widowhood, and where exactly on the path between Erebor and Mount Doom they manage to catch up to and dog pile an unwitting Hobbit.

Porsche and Chay are so strange to Kinn. Like he’s gotten a full profile of their entire life and is just baffled by how close they are.

Porsche and chay get into a play fight once (they chase each other around the compound, chay bites a bodyguard, Porsche accidentally pushes someone into a pool—it was a whole thing), and Kinn is just astounded.

He and his brothers aren’t openly affectionate or emotional so he watched them closely when they interact

His whole speech was so upsetting to read through and I have a feeling its only going to get worse from here. Bad time to be a saeyoung MC huh.

stan is the only member of the pines twins^2 to never make a deal with bill and i think he needs more credit for that.

ford makes, just, so many deals with his demon boyfriend

dipper literally trades his body to bill in sock opera

and while i will die on the hill that it was never her fault, mabel is tricked into making a deal with him for weirdmagenon.

but stan never gets tricked. the only time he comes close was when he was pretending to be ford but that was with the sole purpose of getting bill erased. never does bill get to him or twist his thoughts. for being the "dumb one" he's surprisingly rational in this was.

nobody matches bill intellectually, ford's fatal flaw is that he thought he did, and the pines family wins because they have an emotional core that bill never had (the power of sibling bonding saves the day and i love it) but ill go out on a limb and say that out of everyone, stan is the only one to match bill's street smarts.

bill's a master manipulator but stan is a professional con-artist with no respect for the law, you tell me who's coming out on top.

stan successfully faked his own death, ran a business for 30 years, taught himself some sort of advanced engineering to repair the portal, evaded local, federal and international authorities from the age of 18, and did it all without any support.

and going back to when he pretends to be ford to get bill to enter his mind, that scene makes stan the only character to ever outwit bill.

getting haunted by a guy who has existed in my head for less than a week

One thing about TME’s manhwa that I like is you can tell the artist listened to people’s criticisms of the original story and created a story that actively addressed all those flaws, therefore creating a story that’s much better than the work that inspired it

Lyla isn’t constantly bemoaning her situation or taking actions that seem dumb, such as insisting on the idea the royal family should just magically print money after just being scolded for that exact line of thinking because of the effects of inflation (whereas in the manhwa Lyla’s like “oh shit that’s illegal to do? My bad” just as the narrative calls her out for being the leading cause of inflation). 

Lyla’s obsession with Fian also (thankfully) gets mellowed out and more focus is put on her relationship with other people - including characters like Phillip, Rosalyn, Odelia, etc - rather than her overdependence on Fian for happiness (siiiiiiiiiiighs). The only thing I miss is that this means she doesn’t get as many interactions with Paris which was one of the relationships I actually really liked more in the novel than in the manhwa. 

The Emperor and Empress are still shitty people, but it’s hard to truly hate either of them in the manhwa when you can tell where they’re coming from whereas in the light novel they’re honestly not redeemable and I’m glad Lyla took vengeance on them. Characters like Angelina and Odelia are also fleshed out more in the manhwa, though Tyrone is more fleshed out in the light novel.

The inclusion of Daniel/Ellie, Rosalyn/Phillip and Paris/Helene in the main plot is actually so welcomed and clever. The fact none of these relationships are canon to the original story yet have so much chemistry is bamboozling, especially because it’s Helene’s playfully hostile relationship with Paris that made me drawn to this story in the first place. 

I also like that Phillip was lent more staying power in the manhwa narrative and that he became intertwined with Fian in seeking Lyla’s affections, so much so that for once I like that a second male lead with no chance exists and he feels like a character that isn’t a waste of time to the plot. Light novel him in comparison felt underwhelming, though him teaming up with Helene in reforming Belliana was a dynamic I enjoyed

Also the manhwa plot is is very well crafted because it takes the same events that happen in the LN - from Odelia and Helene’s fight over the hunting festival’s rewards to Lyla’s savior hood of Phillip and Ellie - and threads them into a much more cleverly cohesive narrative, with every addition made to the story - such as Fian’s accompaniment to Lyla during the runaway arc or Helene “randomly” seeking Lyla out to have tea with her - enhancing the story’s experience as a whole.

I think the only thing the manhwa has done better is showing how certain characters think and operate. Also Paris is, imo, written a bit better in the LN, if only because he’s genuinely understandable and sympathetic and his interactions with Lyla felt meaningful and it sucks he got stripped of his time with her (though on the other hand him getting more moments with Helene more than makes up for it lmao).

Also I kind of liked the politics and engagement of modern values in a more conservative world in the LN and while it went a bit over my head, seeing stuff happen like Helene becoming the Chairwoman of a cabinet of advisors that helps doing stuff like distribute territory seized post-coup was just,,,, wow,,, I really think it was interesting to see Helene dismantle the empire she grew up in out of disgust for its outdated and harmful practices and I’m curious if manhwa!Helene will do the same since the manhwa eliminates a huge portion of her motives to break up the Belliana Empire (I.e the practice of polygamy and how such a practice basically fucked up her life and Lyla’s as well as the Belliana traditions that lead to ostracism and generational trauma).

Why Lucifer is A Good Brother

*Somewhat chronologically in order everything is canon and if you want the reference I’ll give it to you*

*Heavy spoilers*

All angels consider each other siblings but out of the millions, possibly billions of angels. Lucifer chose to take five brothers and a sister (originally) under his wing.

He gave Mammon a challenge to become his apprentice and when he succeeded he welcomed Mammon with open arms and never rejected him afterwards even with all the trouble he caused.

He gave Asmodeus the nickname “Jewel of the Heavens” something he still loves to this day even as a demon.

He made Levi feel seen and useful even after the peace treaty between realms made his position obsolete.

He bonded with Beelzebub who was originally his guard and took him and his twin under his wings. He also introduced Lilith to the twins who became inseparable.

When Lilith fell in love he visited the Human World to see if this man was good and kind.

When Lilith broke a Celestial Law this man WENT TO WAR WITH AN ENTIRE REALM and GOD to save her. He asked his brothers to side with him and carried guilt for doing so after the war.

After the war, he pledged eternal loyalty to the man in control of the realm he was at war with for most of his existence all to save his sister despite the humiliation. He saved her even though she wouldn’t remember him and he could never see her again and he carried the burden for thousands of years until MC’s ancestry was revealed.

The Devildom and Celestial Realm hold very strict laws so he took whatever means necessary punishment-wise to correct their behavior. In the Celestial Realm, it was so his brothers weren’t outcast and in the Devildom it was so they weren’t imprisoned or killed.

His brothers believe he’s more loyal to Diavolo than to them but he does this FOR them.

When the brothers struggled with becoming demons he was there to comfort them.

When he accidentally created Satan he took full responsibility for the absolute murderous maniac and did his best to raise the personification of hatred.

He cared about Satan so much that when the brothers were offered the chance to return to the Celestial Realm, the realm he once ruled, he told them to return and he alone would stay with Satan so he wouldn’t be alone. Even though this decision meant he wouldn’t be able to see his brothers and they’d be seen as enemies, he wanted what he believed was best for them and what they wanted.

Lucifer did everything he could to master new demon magic, insert himself into Devildom politics, and befriend his enemies all for his brothers’ sakes to give them the same position of respect they had in the Celestial Realm.

In Nightbringer when he was incarcerated in Cocytus the fact his brothers were being held too enraged him to the point he broke free and even fought Diavolo believing he had something to do with it. And when Raphael cried having to sentence him, Lucifer wasn’t angry he felt sorry for Raphael—a former brother.

Lucifer continuously fights those many times stronger than him all for his family’s sake.

Even though it pained him to see his former angelic brothers for the exchange program he remained cordial even though it was at first awkward and a reminder of all the pain of the past. He did this for his former brothers.

When Belphegor threatened treason and war, he lied to the ruler of the Devildom and hid Belphegor away to PROTECT him.

He lashed out at Mc and nearly killed them because he saw them as a threat to his brothers. First when Luke held the Grimoire that could control them and MC got in the way; then threatened them because they were making pacts with all his brothers; then why they betrayed him and found Belphegor because this could reach Diavolo and Belphegor would be punished for treason. In Nightbringer he originally remained suspicious and cold because MC could control his brothers without a pact and then had the grimoire which could control them. Lucifer only attacked MC when he was being protective of his brothers.

When Lucifer had amnesia he immediately bonded with his brothers again and revealed many things he’d done secretly to help them like pulling strings to get Mammon the car he worked so hard for.

He was even willing to sacrifice himself to let MC live who became family (or romantic interest—up to you) and his final ask was that they take care of his brothers.

Lucifer’s methods seem strict, unforgiving, and cruel but remember this is HELL, the DEVILDOM. Law only recently was created and Diavolo may be forgiving but who’s to say his father or descendants would be just as lenient? If his brothers don’t behave it could mean the worst and he refuses to lose another family member.

thinking about chimney and eddie as brothers-in-law because they would be SO silly. their dynamic is already perfect but add in that extra sibling component? Mayhem. eddie would be 10x more torturous to chim, chimney would be 10x more indignant to eddie, AND they’d both bond over their shared buckley love interests. also there would inevitably a scene at some point where chimney nudges eddie and goes “buckley’s, right?” and eddie laughs along before both maddie and buck turn around to give them a Look that leaves the both of them begging for forgiveness. i Need it.
