one last one
❄️ firmly holding their hand in public with sidney
because as reserved as he would totally be about pda, you bet your ass he never lets go of your hand
oh definitely! hope you like this!!
you laughed at sidney's tie, stepping forward to fix it.
"you've been doing this for eighteen years," you laughed. "how the hell are you still so bad?"
sidney grinned, "maybe i pretended to do it badly so you'd fix it for me."
you rolled your eyes, "i can believe that."
sidney laughed at your reaction, reaching out to take your hand. your slipped your fingers into his, allowing him to lead you out of the hotel.
it was the day before the winter classic, and the teams were allowing a family skate. media was going to present like always, but there were no interviews or anyone besides family allowed on the ice.
you followed him down to the stadium, which thankfully wasn't far. it'd snowed a little before, which was the ideal weather for any outdoor skating.
sidney picked up both of your skates, tying his own and then yours.
you could tie them yourself, but you let him do it. it was one thing he enjoyed doing.
you noticed some of the media clicking pictures of you and sidney. it was rare that the two of you made such public appearances like this one, so the media liked to take advantage of it.
"it's you and me," sidney brought your attention back to him as he helped you to your feet. "ignore them. it's just us."
he gripped your hand firmly, leading you to the rink.
it was just the two of you.

Chapter 7
It was Thanksgiving , we pulled in front of my parents house. I took a deep breath.
“Are you ready for this?” I asked
“Are you ?” He asked me.
We walked into the house taking off our coats, I hung them up.
"hi baby" my mom said, walking in the hallway
"Hi mom, mom this is Sidney, Sidney this is my mom Karen"
"Hello Mrs. Taylor" he said
"It's nice to meet you, and please call me Karen." she said, hugging him.
"okay"
"hi" my dad said behind me.
"Hi dad, dad I would like you to meet Sidney, Sidney this my dad Dan."
"hello Mr. Taylor" he said shaking his hand
“Sidney Crosby is my house . “ he said
“Oh god.” I put my face in my face
“nice to meet you, you got skills on that ice."dad said
"Thank you sir."
"Oh my god" Sara said. I looked at her, and grinned
"Sidney this is my sister Sara " I said grabbing his arm. "and Sara this is Sidney"
“Oh wow” Sara said I rolled my eyes.
"Hey everyone." my brother said coming
in the house.
I looked back at him with a mean look.
"Why do you look so pissed off?"
"What do you think?"
"Oh, what is she doing now?" he said, coming up to me. He looked at who was standing next to me, he did a double take.
"Dude, you're Sidney Crosby."
"yeah I am"
"I'm Adam, I'm a huge fan.
"thanks man" Sidney shook his hand. M
"What are you doing here?" he asked, looking at me.
I laughed
"He's with me." I said
"really?"
I nodded.
Around 2:00 we all were sitting in the living room, minus Sara . Me and Sidney were sitting on the couch. My hand was on his lap and his hand was on my hand. Adam was sitting on the other side of me.
"Is he treating you okay?" He whispered
"Adam yes"
"I'm going to check on dinner" my mom said
"I'll help" I said
SID'S POV
I was having a great time with Brittany's family. Her sister is a bit hard to read. Adam is a really good guy and her parents seem like normal mom and dad. Brittany went to help her mother.
"we weren't sure if you coming" he father said
"why?"
"because Karen had to call Brittany a couple times, to see if she asked you."
"She didn't want me to come or something."
"I don't know, I think she was nervous, Brittany can be a nervous girl.” Her dad told me.
"but there is something I want to tell you." Adam said
"You better treat her right."
"I will, I promise. I really like your sister"
"You have to be patient with her, you can't force her to do anything she doesn't want to do."
"trust me, I know she has been through a lot”
“She told you”he said I didn’t say anything.
"thanks man, Just don't let anything happen to her."
"I won't"Adam nodded to me
I went out to the kitchen, to see Brittany and her mom were sitting at the table.
"hey" Brittany said,
“hey” I smiled
“Dinner is almost done,” her mom said. Dinner was great, we talked and laughed, her family wanted to know how we met and  how things were going. It was a great night.
Britt’s POV
The day after Thanksgiving, Sidney had a game. I went to the arena. I had the same seat as always behind the penalty box. The First period Sidney got the first goal right off the bat. Tyler Kennedy right after that. In the second period sid got another goal. almost at the end of the period. Sidney got a penalty. I Stood up with everybody else.
"boo!!"
He went into the box and he looked up at me and shook his head. I smiled and shook mine. The third period Geno scored. They won 4-1. I went down to the locker room, and waited for Sidney, who was one of the last people out.
"hello" he said to me.
“H-“
"Sid" a girl yelled for him.
"oh vero hey."
"hi" they hugged
"this is my girlfriend Brittany, Brittany this is Vero Marc's girlfriend."
"hi, nice to meet you."I said,
"So you're the one who's making him so happy."
"I hope so."
"Let me tell you I have never seen this guy so happy before." she said. I looked up at him. I smiled and he kissed me on the forehead.
“We’ll i'm glad to hear that.” I put my arms around Sidney's waist.
"So how long have you and Marc been together?"I asked her, and Sidney walked away and left us alone.
"Since High School"
"wow"
"yeah"
Me and Vero talked for a while and we really hit it off. I went to find Sidney.
"hey" I said
"hey you and V really got along, eh." he said
"yeah, I really like her."
, “we should go too."
We walked out together.I smiled and put my arm around him. He held me tight. He kissed me. I put my head to his chest. I didn't want to let go. I took a deep breath and looked up at him.
“Wanna come over ?” I asked him
“Yes” he laughed
Two days later, Sidney went on an eight day trip. We were together, we spent the whole day together. We were at my place sitting on the couch watching tv.
"Britt, can we talk for a second?” Jessica aske coming out of his room.
“Yeah.” I got up and followed her to the kitchen.
"i'm going school" she blurted out
“what?"
"i;m going to school, the next semester after christmas, I know we have a apartment together, and we pay-- "
"no i'm proud of you, you alway wanted to go to school, where?"
"New York"
"New York?"
"yeah"
“New York city?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh wow, ummm did you tell max?"
"Yeah, I don't know what he thinks, he really didn't say anything."
"I'm glad your going"
“Thank you” she said
Sid's Pov
I was lying in my hotel room. My phone rang.
"hello"
"hi" she said in the sweetest tone.
"What are you doing?" I asked
"nothing , i miss you, how about you?"
"i miss you too”
"I looked at an apartment today.” She told me, she Decided since Jessica was leaving for school she didn’t need a two bedroom apartment. A one bedroom would be cheaper. “ I put an application I really like it“
“That’s great baby “
We got back two days later. I got home around 2:00 am. The next morning I went to Brittany. She opened the
"hey" i said with the biggest smiled
"Sidney," she said, putting her arms around my neck. I laughed. I put my arms around her, lifted her and walked into her apartment.
"I've missed you so much" I felt her say on my neck.
She looked at me. I kissed her as hard as I could.
“I missed you too." I said I put her feet on the floor. I looked around and there were packing boxes everywhere.
Britt's Pov
We were sitting on the couch.Watching tv "so Mario having this Christmas Eve party, do you want to come with me?" he asked, rubbing my back.
“ I would love to.”
“Great”
“Is it fancy ?” I smiled
“I wouldn’t say fancy fancy but definitely dress up”
“Alright.”
“Is that okay?”
“Oh my yes that’s fine “
Two weeks later It was Christmas eve I was getting ready I was nervous really nervous but I was worried Sid wasn't looking any better. He has been really tired this season . was wearing a black dress pants, with a red thin sweater.
"hey" he said looking in the bathroom
"hi" I said as I walked out of the bathroom.
"Do i look Okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah, you look beautiful. How about me."
"handsome." I said, fixing his tie.
"here" he said pulling a box out of his pocket."merry Christmas" he said,
"Sidney, we said no gifts" I told him.
"I know, but I couldn't help myself."
“Sidney" I I touched his shoulder.
"Just open it." He said, I smiled
I took the box and opened it. I saw the most beautiful bracelet.
"Sidney, it's beautiful.....but cant...I can't take this."
"Yes you can." he said, taking it out of the box and pulling it on me.
"thank you" I kissed him.
"your welcome baby.” He pulled me close, I giggled.
"you nervous"
"yes" I nodded
"It’s okay" he said
"are you okay" i asked
“yeah"
"you look really tired"
"I'm Okay, it’s hitting that time in the season.” He rubbed my back, and kissed my forehead “went to head downstairs.” I nodded.
We were there for a while. Vero and I were talking in the corner and Sidney went to talk to somebody. I was kind of day dreaming I felt left out, nervous. I didn't know what to do.I saw two girls standing on the other side of me. I think they think I can't hear them.
"Who is she?"
"I don't know, I think she came with Sid." The blonde said
"There is no way."
"Look at her .. maybe I was wrong I don't think Sid would date someone like that." I pulled my sweater , I messed with the bracelet on my wrais
"Yeah, she is not even that cute."
I didn't know what to do but I had to get out of here. I looked around and I saw Sidney. He smiled at me. I smiled back. I told V I would be back. I looked around again and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I went up the stairs to Sidney's room. I walked in, I looked around, sitting on his dresser were pictures of his mom, dad , his sister and him, and there was one of him and his sister.
"Hey what's wrong" i turned around to see Sid standing in the doorway, looking worried."what's wrong" he asked again
I shook my head and looked at him. "I don't know, I just had to get away for a little bit."
he nodded “britt"
"I'm fine, Sidney," I said walking across the room.
"Brittany, come on, I know something up"
I sat down on his bed.
Brittany?"
"I'm scared, Okay" I kinda yelled feelin
"of what?"
"of us."
"us?"
"you’re the first guy I've ever gotten close to since you know when, the closest I ever got close to any guy. When I was down there. I felt so left out, When I looked at you I knew why I was there. But it also made me wonder why would a guy like you want a girl
like me?” I put my hands to my chest, and looked down at my feet.
“What do you mean?” he grabbed my hands
“I’m a big girl. Average looking.”
“No”he said “ there is nothing average about you, and the fact you're a big girl means nothing, you're sexy babe curves for days and if someone has a problem with that. That is their  problem.” He stepped closer to me.  “Not ours, and sure as hell not yours. He pulled us over to the bed , and sat down, he put his forehead on my head.
"Brittany"
"huh?"
"I love you" he said I was shocked. the fact that you're a ‘bigger girl’ as you say has a little to do with it. Thought these thighs drive me crazy.” he grabbed the inside of my thigh.” I giggled , I was crazy about this man. He was becoming my world.  I turned my head and looked at him.
"I love you too" I kissed him, he put hand around the back of my neck, to pull me close as possible. We pulled apart for air. I ran my hand down his chest
"and I understand why you're scared, and I'm not going anywhere, you can tell me anything." he said, i nodded " You hear me , you can tell me anything, and I'll always be here." he  kissed me again.
"Okay" he grabbed my hand “want to head back down.”  he walked me down the stairs.
I was there for about another two hours. When I grabbed Sid's hand.
“I gotta go”
“No” he stuck his bottom lip out.
“Yeah.” I said, I had to get on the road to my parents house. “I love you “ I whispered in his ear.
He smiled "i love you too" he kissed me
"Call me when you get to your parents." he pulled me into a hug
"i Will, get some sleep."
"I'll try"
"See you in two days" he kissed me hard.
"Yes” I smiled against his lips.
"bye"
Like a week later , a couple days before we left for the winter classic, we were at my place, now emptier from Jessica moving. .
About an hour later we ordered some food.
"I never knew how to use these things" I said, trying to put my finger right on the chopstick.
"here" Sidney Laughed helping me. "put this finger here and this one here."
"okay"
"Now try it," he told me. I was contrading really hard.
I had a piece of chicken. I went to put it in my mouth, and it flew across the table. I put my hand over my mouth, Sidney busted up laughing.
"it's not funny" I was trying not to laugh.
"yes it is" he said, he picked up the chicken and popped into his mouth.
"I'm just going to stick with this." I said, picking up my fork.
"You know what that might be better for you." he said I laughed." so i got a question i know i should have asked sooner, but Do you want to come to the winter classic?"
"Do I?I've been trying to find a way to go." and I have, and I haven't said anything to him. I was going to try to surprise him, but it wasn't working.
"What do you mean?" he asked
"tickets, money, hotel room, work."
"I can get you a ticket."
"Yeah i was hoping" I laughed
"i can help you with a hotel r-"
"No”
"Britt, come on. It's nothing, I just want you there" he said “there's a family and friends skate and it will be the first time you get a real feel of my world” he took a bit of his food, and lifted his eyebrows.
"oh okay" I rolled my eyes at him. "Now I just have to find out about work."
We cleaned up everything, I was fixing up the kitchen. Sidney came up behind me, wrapping his arms around me. I smiled softly. He kissed my neck, I swallowed hard.
"I should get going" He said
“What?” i turned around grabbing his hips, he laughed
“Unless you don't want me to leave. “ he gave me a grin.
"No” I started undoing his belt.
Okay" he kissed me, and we made our way to my bedroom.
I called Sidney about three day later, sitting at a booth on my break.
"Baby, i was just thinking about you “ he answered
“Guess where I'm going?" i pretty much yelled into the phone
"Where?" he laughed
"the Winter Classic"
"Really? You got it off"
“Yes sir.”
“Ohh i like the yes sir.” he voice got low, i giggled. "I'm happy your coming"
"me too baby " I smiled,
The couple days before the winter classic, me and Jessica got into our hotel room. We were staying at the same hotel as the team. This was Jessica’s last game before you moved to New York.
"what do you want to do now?" jessica asked me
"We can go watch them practice, Sid said we can come watch."
"Okay" we got our coats on, and I got my hat on. I looked in the mirror.  It was a new powder blue color, a 87 on the front. I smiled to myself, and I felt pride for the man I love.
When we got there, and made our way around showing multiple people our passes. We went in, it was amazing, we walked up to the glass, Max was standing there he wasn't playing he was hurt. Sid saw me and waved. I gave him a small wave and smiled.
"I never seen him this happy about a girl." Max said, walking up to us.
"really?"
"Yes, he talks about you all the time." he said , I smiled and looked at Sidney. He looked like a different guy out there (in a good way). The way his body moved, I never really noticed it before. We watched the rest of the practice. they were getting off the ice.
"Hello," he said, giving me a sweaty hug.  Started rubbing his face on mine. I laughed, “he looks good on you.”  he said “but you know what would look better on you?” he whispered
“What?” He pulled me close and put his lips to my ear. “Me”
“SIdney” i whispered
“Just think about that the rest of the day.”
“You're mean,” I told him, and he kissed me.
"Will you two give it some rest, save some for later." Colby said
I laughed, and put my head to Sidney's chest. He was already taller than me, but he skates one he is towering over me.
"I'm going to get a shower and change and we can go to lunch if you want"
"yes" I said
Almost an hour later, Sid and I were on our way to the restaurant. When we got there he opened the door, put his hand on the small of my back and led me in. When we sat down, and someone  boo's. I put a small smile on my face.
"that's not funny" he laughed
"I know, I'm just not used to it. Normally when we walk into place you get gasps, an people staring you down" I laughed
“Well were not in pittsburgh”
“But you're still Sidney Crosby “
“Babe”
“I love you” i said
“I love you too,” he said, “now this is going to be good for us.”
“And you're going to kick butt at the winter classic” i told him, he shook his head “what?”i asked
“I love having you cheer me on”
“I'm your biggest fan right here.”
“God” he smiled “ i love you”
“I love you “
The rest of the day we were together. We checked out my shops, got hot chocolate. Enjoyed the sites. We were lucky Sidney had a lot of down today today. Tomorrow it was the family and friends. I was looking through racks of clothes.
“So my parents and sister are going to skate tomorrow.” Sidney said, stopped and looked at him.
“What?”
“If you're not ready, it’s okay? He told me. “No, i'm excited”
“Yeah?”
“Oh yeah, I just hope they like me.”
“They're going to love you.”   I bit my lip.
The next morning, Jessica and I were getting ready for the family skate. I was messing with my hat.
“His parents,” I said to myself.
“You okay?” jessica asked
“Yes, no  I'm going to be” I told her, and I grabbed my coat. “I'm meeting them in the lobby. I have to go. “
“Okay, see you there” i walked into the lobby, i took a deep breath, i looked around and didn't see Sidney yet. I started pacing, back and forth. Back and forth.
“You're pacing” I jumped , Sidney had a hold of my waist, and kissed my ear.
“Hi,” I said, turning around.
"relax" he said
"I'm okay" I took a deep breath , he nodded,  his parents were standing behind him
"Mom, dad, I would like you to meet Brittany, my girlfriend, and Brittany. This is my mom, Trina, and my dad troy."
"Brittany, it is so nice to finally meet you." his mom said, going into a hug
"It's nice to meet you too mrs. Crosby” I said, taking in her hug.
"oh, please call me Trina"
“Of course” I nodded "Mr. Crosby, it's Nice to meet you too."
"You too" he said and Sid shot him a look.
"So Brittany what do you do?" his mom asked, we were on a bus on the way to the field.
"I'm a waitress"
"Do you plan on doing that your whole life?" his dd asked
"Dad!" Sid said under his breath.
"I don't really know"
"You don't plan on going to college."
"I.....college...it wasn't right....at the time."
"Dad" Sidney said again but not under his breath.
“It's okay” I touched Sidney's leg. “I don't see the point of a college degree if I don't know what I want to do. I don't want to waste the money.”
We got to the field. . i sat next to Sid on the bench. I put skates in front of me.  his mom was on the other side of him, and his dad was next to her, and this girl with blonde hair walked up.
“Hi”
“Taylor .” sidney got up and hugged his sister.”tay this brittany”
“Hi it's so nice to meet you.” she said, sitting next me.
“You too, I've heard alot things about you.” I said, untying my shoes.
“So have i, I can't believe my brother has a girlfriend “ she said, i smiled at sidney, he rolled his eyes.
“Do you need help?” he whispered to me.
“Maybe, i;ve never really done this.”
“Oh my god,  i never thought about that.” he said , i looked over at his parents.
"Your dad doesn't like me." I whispered to him, as he was in front of me tying my skates.
"gave him time."
I looked at Sidney and bit my bottom lip.
We got on the ice,
“You're bad.” Sid told me, I had a grip on his arm, he was holding me up.
“The last time I haven’t been skating since,  I was like 10.” i said, “ and skating then was holding on to the wall, and going in circles.” I said, he busted out laughing.
Sid's POV
I helped Britt to the bench, and she made her way to the bathroom. My dad skated up to me.
"Dad, gave her a chance." I said, looking at him, he looked at me."Dad, I love her.
"Sidney, I just don't want to see you with one of--"
"She is not one of them."
"You don't know that she seem quiet"
"Dad, she has a past. She can be quiet, but she is independent, smart, funny, and beautiful."
"She's got baggage, are you sure you--"
"It's not baggage, it's her life, it's a part of her." "Will you give her a chance?" I asked him if he wasn't saying anything. "Dad, I love her."
"Of course" he said
"thank you" I nodded and saw someone in the corner of my eye. I looked.
"Brittany" She put her head down. I went up to her.
"How much did you hear?"
"all of it"
"Are you Okay?"
"Yeah I am " she said, she put her hands on my shoulders, and kissed me.  “I don't know if i can't go back out there though.”
“Yeah I don't need you breaking something.” I laughed.
“Ha ha “ she smiled “ go skate”
“Yes ma'am” I said, taking off.
Britt’s POV
I did hear everything  his dad said, and I think a couple months ago, it would have messed me up, but these last months have made me a different , and better woman and I'm not going to let some words upset me.
"So Brittany" Sidney’s dad sat next to me. "How long have you been a hockey fan?"
“Umm my whole life” i smiled, I grew up as a sports fan and hockey was just on tv all the time.” he dad nodded, and smiled
His dad and I talked like I heard Sidney ask him to give me a chance, and he was. All were standing at the bench again.
"It was really nice to meet you both." I said
"you too Brittany." his mom said, hugging me.
"Brittany, can I talk to you?" his dad asked me.
I nodded, and walked over to the side.
"I just wanted to say, I'm sorry for the way I acted towards you earlier."
"It's Okay, you were just watching out for your son."
"he Loves you, I can tell"
"I love him too, you raised a good man."
"thank you" he said
"Your welcome, Mr. Crosby, and thank you." i said walking away
"Brittany" I turned around "call me Tory"
I nodded, andwalked and  grabbed Sidney hand
"what was that all about?" Sidney asked as we were walking out.
"he apologize"
"He did?"
"Yeah" sidney smiled at me.
I'm laying in bed in our hotel room that night. . Jessica was sleeping. I was wide awake, thinking about Sidney. I truly never felt this way about anybody. At midnight, it was now 2008. there was a knock at the door. I looked at the door.
"Who the hell would that be?" Jessica said half awake.
"I don't know" I got up, and cracked the door to see who it was, then I opened up all the way. I saw Sidney standing there in shorts and a T-shirt.
"Sidney, what are you doing here?"
He kissed me, he put his hand through my hair. I put my arm tight, our lips broke apart. I looked at him.
"what-" I said
"happy New year" he said, I laughed "and I really can't stop thinking about you"
"me too" he put his forehead on mine.
"i love you" I said
"i love you too" He kissed me again
"I'm gonna go back to bed, I'll see you tomorrow."
I nodded, and “okay” I smiled, we hugged, and we went to bed.
The next day we were on our way to the game. It was really cold outside. We got our seats. The game started when Colby Armstrong got a goal as soon as the period started. Buffalo got a goal in the second period, nothing in the third. they go into overtime. The snow came down. They went into a shootout. The snow came down even harder. It came down to Sid, he went down the ice and shot the puck, and he put his arms up and started jumping up and down. When he did that I did the same.
Me and Jessica made our way to the locker room. Jessica went to find Max. I was waiting for Sid. He was with the press, he came out of the room.
"you guys won!" I said, i through my arms around his neck
"Yes we did," he said, putting his arms around me.
"your cold" I said rubbing his back
"so are you" I laughed
"All I want is a shower and a hot chocolate."  I hugged him tighter
"well you know what go get a hot chocolate and get a shower, and i'll see you when your done"
"Okay" he kissed me and went to get a shower. I watched him walk back into the locker. I was happy for him, and so happy I got to be here for him.
Three days. Jessica was leaving. She was all packed, and her stuff was sent away to her place in NEw york.
"I'm going to miss you" I said
"me too"
"don't forget about me."
"I won't " she said we hugged
"Be careful" i told
" iwill bye" she got in the car with Max, and went to the airport.
The next day I went to look at apartments, and I found the perfect one bedroom apartment. I got so lucky it was ready to move in the landlord is so chill.  I picked up my phone and called Sidney.
"Sidney, I'm standing in the middle of  my new apartment."
"what?"
"yeah I got in today, i was looking for a while but yeah i found it."
"When are you going to move in?"
"the guy said whenever I want to."
"Need some help?"
"I was hoping you would"
he laughed.
A couple days later we got all the furniture in the apartment, now we were unpacking, it was kind of late. We were in my bedroom. I was putting things on the dresser.
"Now this is hot, eh" I turned around and saw Sidney sitting on the bed , holding one of my bras.
"Give me that" I reached for it, I grabbed it, he still had it, and he pulled me towards him. He laid on the bed, I was on top of him, I put one arm around his neck, I put the other hand on his cheek and kissed him and kept kissing him. He ran his hand up and down my back and legs. I run my hand down his chest. i tugged on his shirt, and pulled it over his head, he did the same to me, we rolled over. He kissed me down my neck. I reached for his belt.
“Night stand draw” i said, he reached over
“Oh  my baby is prepared” he laughed, “and now let's break in this apartment.”
“Sidney.” he rolled me over so i was on top.
Sid's POV
The next morning I woke up, I looked over at Brittany. She was still sleeping with just a pair of underwear and my t-shirt. I covered her up more, kissed her on the cheek. she pressed her face into the pillow. I got up and took a shower. When I was done I walked into the bedroom. she was standing there with her back towards me, getting into the dressers.
"hi beautiful" I wrapped my arms around her. she jumped. I laughed as she turned around and put her arms around my neck.
"Well, hello" she said, then kissed me.
Britt's POV
About two week later. I was at a game, i was sitting with Vero, ever since Jessica left me and vero been hanging out alot. It was early in the first period, I watched Sid go into broads, I was waiting for him to get up. He got up on his knees, and got up very slowly, he went to the penguins runway. They helped him go down the runway. I stood up.
"he'll be okay" vero said
"i hope so"
I had to go through the whole game not knowing anything, when the game was over i went to the locker room, i was pacing biting my nails. Max was coming out of the locker room. I went up to him.
"Is he okay, is he in there?" i asked
"okay calm down, they took him to the hospital, to get a m.r.i"
"m.r.i"
"yeah, you know where they-"
"I know what an m.r.i is."  I raised my voice.
"just go home, and he'll call you when ever he can"
"Okay" I went home. I waited, waited, and waited. I did fall asleep around three in the morning, on the couch.
The next morning, i got to get ready for work, and I thought about calling him, but he could be sleeping. i was getting to leave, my phone rang.
"hello" I said
"hey babe"
"Oh my god, are you okay?" I asked,  I sat on the couch.
"I'll be okay, i got a high ankle Sprain, I would have called you last night but they gave me something that knocked me out."
"It's okay, but you're gonna be okay?"
"yeah"
“I was worried.” i said "how long are you going to be out for?"
"they said about two months."
"wow"
"yeah, tell me about it, I heard you were scared."
"i wasn;t scared, I was worried" I said “I gotta get going, I got to work."
"Okay, I'll call you. I don't know if I can come over today, but I'll call you."
"Oh no i can come to you, let me know if there is anything you need. okay, love you "
"Okay, I love you too."
weeks went by since sidney’s accident,  he was in a boot now, we've watched every game together so far. Whether it be on Tv, or at the arena. He now had a key to my place, and spent most of his time there. I got out of the shower, and went to my room. I was getting  clothes out of my closet.
“Babe” I heard the door open and close.
"hello" I said, fixing the towel that was around
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" he yelled, walking into my room.”oh” he said, holding an iced coffee, and a bag of something in the other.
"thank you” i said, he smiled, and put the coffee, and bagg on top of the dresser.
“That towel needs to come off.” he told me
“Does it now?”
“Oh yeah.” I stepped closer to me. Grabbed the towel and pulled it off me. He picked me up
“Sidney, you're ankle.” i gasped
“Let me worry about my ankle.” he said, laying me on the bed.  He spread my legs wide, and kissed all the way down my chest stopping to suck on one of my nipples and fully handling my other breast, and slowly squeezed it.  He slowly worked his way down my body. He kissed the inside of my thigh, then his tongue made its way inside me, my head went  back, like I had no control over it. He was controlling my body,  and that's what he did for the next few minutes. I completely blacked out , all
I knew it was amazing. As I came my hand grabbed a blanket on the bed, and toes pointed, while my back arched and he was staring up at me with a grin all over his face.
“Happy birthday “ he whispered
“Oh my god. I laughed , he stood up and I grabbed his hand. “Where are you going ? It’s your turn”
“Baby I’m good it's your birthday “ I got up off the bed and picked my towel back up, and wrapped it around me. Sidney handed me the iced coffee. “I got bagels” he held up the bag.
"okay, so what are we doing tonight" he asked, as we were sitting on the couch , I took the last bite of my bagel
"i don't know"
"well it's your birthday, so we got to do something"
" low key”
“Would you like it to be just us?” Sidney asked
“Please, I would actually love that.”
"you know what I'll be back , Okay" he got up,
"okay? Where are you going ?”
“I said I’ll be back.” He kissed my cheek, and went out the door.
“What the hell.” I said to myself
A couple hours later Sidney was back with bags of food.
"what are you doing?" I asked him.
"I'm making you dinner" he smiled
"what?" I said as kissed me on the cheek, and went into the kitchen.
"yeah. I'm cooking."
“You know how to do that?”
“Believe it or not I’m not that bad. “
"okay. Do you want some help?" I smiled at him.
"nope, i got it, you go relax, watch TV, read a book, go do something."
“Can I read my book here ?” I asked touching the breakfast bar “ and I can be near you”
“Of course baby”
"Okay" I went to get my book. but it was hard every five minutes he was asking where stuff was. He was rather organized and looked a little out of his element.
"Are you sure you don't need any help?" Iasmed .
"Yes I’m sure”
"Okay" I said , I looked down at my book, and I saw something sitting in front of me.
“It’s a really sweet wine, I think you’ll like it.”  He said leaning across the bar for a kiss.
“Thank you.” I smiled and leaned in for the kiss.
"I'm going back to reading my book." i said,
“Okay” he smiled
About 10 minutes later, he sat a plate down..
“Babe this looks amazing. “
“Thank you chicken, garlic green beans, baked potato, and there's a salad.”
“You're perfect.”
“No that's you.” he said, walking around the bar with his plate and sitting beside me.
"Sidney, This is really good, thank you" he smiled at me,and touched my knee. I  kissed him
"I almost forgot." he said, getting up and getting into his coat pocket.
"Happy Birthday" he handed me a box.
“Sidney”
“Open it”
I opened it, it was a gold necklace with a Diamond pendant, with a small 87 hanging from it.
"it beautiful, thank you" i hugged him
"You're welcome, do you like it? "
“ I love it.”
“It's like mine.”
“I can see that.” I smiled "Can you help me put it on?"
"yeah" he put it on me.
"I love it" I kissed him
"I'm glad"
After we were done with the dishes, we put things away. We were lying in bed. He had his arms around my neck playing with my necklace.
"So where did we leave off this morning?" i asked, he smiled at me
Sid's POV
Her arms were around me. I looked down and she was sleeping, and not too much longer I was sleeping.
When I woke up the next morning,  I rolled over, Brittany wasn't in bed. I got up and found her  in the kitchen with my shirt and a pair of shorts  on. She was cooking. I put my arms around her. she laughed and I kissed her neck.
"what are you doing?"
"Well, you cooked dinner and now I'm cooking breakfast."
"okay" I kissed he again
"What are we doing today? I have to work the late shift today." she asked
"the late shift" i said
"yeah"
"you never work the late shift."
"I know"
"Today I have to go to the arena. I got to see the doctor today."
"Okay, when?"
"here in a little"
"Ughh" she leaned her head back on my shoulder.
I went to see the doctor then that night we had a game I wasn't playing of course. I left the game during the second intermission, and went to the diner. There were like two other people in there. Brittany had her back towards me. I sat down. The other waitress came over.
"hi my name is Lexi, how may I help you?"
"I'll start with water.
"Okay coming right up "
I nodded, she walked beside Brittany.
"Guess who I just waited in." The girl wasn't quiet at all.
"who?" Brittany said not looking up from what she was doing.
"Sidney Crosby"
"really?" Britt said, and turned around, and she smiled
"hey" I said
"What are you doing here, the game isn't even over yet." she asked, pointing towards the TV.
"it was boring"
"boring?"
"Yeah" i said, she leaned over and kissed me
"here you go." Lexi came over with my water when she went to put it down, she dropped it. The water went everywhere. Brittany gasped. I jumped up before it got on me.
"oh my god, I'm so sorry"
"Lexi, go get something to clean this up with."
"Sid I'm sorry, she knew."
"it's okay"
After it was all cleaned up, and the shift   was over, me and Brittany Left together.
"I'll meet you at your place, I have to go home first."
"okay"
When we were both at her place, we went right to bed
The next morning, I woke up to Brittany mumbling something into my chest.
"what?" I mumbled
"nothing" she said into my chest "I'm so cold" she said pressing her face into my chest. I grabbed the covers and covered her back up and put my arms around her.
"I can't go back to sleep" she said
"me either"
We just laid there.
"How did the doctors go?" she asked, playing with my hand.
"oh, good! He said I could be on the ice within a week."
"that great Sid"
"I know I was thinking, do you work today?"
"Yeah, the late shift again."
"Then today I was thinking of going to the rink to try some skating, do you want to come?"
"yeah"
"Okay" we got up and got dressed.
When we got to the arena. I got all geared up. I came out Brittany was sitting on the bench.
"how's it feeling?"
"pretty good" I was shooting pucks.I went to the runway, opened the door, and grabbed a pair of skates.
"What are they for?"
"you"
"no"
"yes"
"I'm going to make a fool of myself."
"No you're not, it's just going to be me and you out there”
“Remember the winter classic?” i asked
“Yeah, that's why you're going to practice,” I said, placing them in front of her.
“okay”
"That's what I'm talking about baby “ I knelt in front of her , and grabbed her foot "now come on let me put these on you." she  smiled at him.
"Okay" I put them on her. we both got on the ice, she was holding on to both of my hands. she almost fell. I put an arm around her to hold her up.
"I gotcha" I said
"I can skate, I just have to get used to it again."
"okay"
"I can mr. Crosby”
"Ohhh okay"  i let go of her one hand
“No, Sidney,” She laughed. I pulled her towards me. she lost her footing and she fell into me, when she did I fell, she landed on top of me, We both laughed.she went to roll off of me, and held her tighter. She ran her hand down my face.
"What?" I asked
"Can I tell you something?"
"Of course"
"I know, I've told you that I never felt this way about any other person, but every time I look at you my stomach flips, my heart races, and I haven't been this happy in a long time, but.....”
“But?”
“Stop, it's not bad. but I keep waiting for something bad to happen, because this seems too good to be true.
"Britt, nothing bad is going to happen, I'm not going to let anything or anybody hurt you, and I'm not going anywhere, just remember that."
A tear fell down her cheek, I wiped it off, she kissed me.
"I love you" I told her, and slowly closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"I love you too."
"and you know what?"
"What?" she smiled
"I'm getting cold."
she laughed "oh yes me too”
She got up and I followed and we stayed on the ice as long as we could until, I took her home so she could get ready for work.
Britt's Pov
Two weeks later me and Vero went out to do some shopping.
"how about this?" Vero asked, she asked, holding up a red dress.
"Hot, Marc would love it."
"you think?"
"yeah"
"So you and Sidney are doing good?"
"were great" i smiled
"You two are too cute together." she said
I laughed “thank you”
“You know what, what size are you?”
“What?” “You need this dress.”
“V , no”
“Yes, you and sidney are new , and you two are most likely still in that stage where you can’t keep your hands off each other”
“What would even wear that too.”
“Come on” she put the dress on the rack, and I followed her into the intments section.
“Vero” i said “no”
“Why not?”
“Because no because just no”
“Girls, you got curves, show them off.”
“I… I can not. I'm too big for that.”
“Stop something like this” she held up a red lace piece, that was so pretty.
“It's classy, but sexy right in the middle.” she said, i bit my lip, and touched it. Next I know the lady was wrapping it up for me.
“I can’t believe I got that.”
“I can” v smiled We went and got something to eat. When we were done we were walking out of the restaurant. I stopped when I saw someone that I haven’t seen in years. I felt sick to my stomach
I stared at him through a crowd of people.
"It can't be" i whispered to myself
"Britt!" Vero yelled for me. I looked at her and looked back and he was gone.
"what were you looking at?"
"Umm nothing" I shook my head.”nothing”
A week later Jessica was visiting. We were having lunch.
"Are you and Max doing okay?" i asked
"good the long distance thing is working okay, you and Sidney?"
I nodded, staring off into space.
"Brittany?"
"Huh?" I jumped “what?”
"you and Sidney?"
"oh great"
"has he moved in yet?" she asked
"what? No!" I said, she laughed.
"I thought since I was gone."
"No, not ready for that” i smiled
"I called Max, Sidney and he are going to join us."
"Okay" I mumbled
"Are you okay?" she asked
"ahhhh...yeah...no.. I think I saw him."
"who?"
"Kyle”
"what?.....Kyle"
"yeah"
"where?"
"at the mall like a week ago I don't know if it was him, but it  really looked like him, and i've been freaked - "
"You saw him" I heard a voice behind me, I turned around.
"Sidney"
"You saw him, and you didn't tell me." he said, he looked hurt
"I don't know if it was him."
"you still didn't tell me"
"Sid" he shook his head, and turned around and walked out of the cafe.
"babe?" I ran after him. "Sidney" I grabbed his arm and he shrugged me off.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he turned around, raising his voice.
"i didn't want you to get worked up"
"No, Brittany you could have been hurt" he yelled at me.
"i don't know, if it was him" I yelled back
"That's not the point" he yelled, opening his car door.
"Sidney, please
he shook his head, getting into his car.” i cant talk to you right now”
"where are you going"I asked
"home”
I put my head down and felt a tear go down my cheek. I looked back at him, he closed his eyes, shook his head, opened his eyes back up, and drove off. I didn't go back to the cafe. I went to my car. I put my head to the wheel and cried. A little while later, there was a knock on the door. I wiped the tears off my face, and I looked up. It was Jessica, Max was behind her. She opened the door.
"are you okay?, what happened?"
"I'm okay, I just want to go home." i told her
"Do you want me to take you?"
"no, I'm good, thanks"
I went home and I didn't know what to do.

When I first started reading MattDrai fics on AO3 I remember thinking “wait what the HELL is going on why is this the most consistently well-written fanfiction I’ve read in any fandom? Is this a thing? Do people know??” And apparently it is and they do.

Note
i just saw your last call post, so not sure if this is late or not- which it’s totally fine if it is!
but if it’s not, can i please request, from the touching prompt list, 3+15 with sidney crosby?
Y/N Y/L/N'S HOCKEY BOYFRIEND
after this blurb, only two more to go for my tumblr-versary! also, i have no idea where this idea came from. i'm just thinking about ross macdonald a lot (24/7), so introducing famous singer!reader x sidney crosby lol
3. "hiding face in neck" 15. "hugging each other" (from this prompt list)
your eyes danced around the crowd of people as you strummed your guitar before closing your eyes with a smile and singing the rest of the song. you could feel the electricity in the atmosphere, even with your eyes closed.
when you strummed the final note, it felt like the floor was vibrating with all the screaming and cheering from the crowd. you didn't think the smile on your face could get any bigger.
"thank you, pittsburgh." you spoke into the microphone, "you've been amazing. you always are." you took a breath, "now, pittsburgh will always be a special place for me. it's where i moved into my first big girl apartment, where i got my first dog. where i met sid." you smiled, "it's home."
"sid is here tonight." you added and had to stop talking due to the amount of yelling and cheering, "i don't know where he is, he didn't tell me. so, if you see him, turn on your flashlight or something. "you joked, covering your eyes to block out the big spotlight in favor of looking into the crowd.
you scanned the pit, but you knew he probably wouldn't be there, so you moved up higher towards the seats until you finally spotted him, "there he is." you pointed, waving to him, "he didn't tell me where he was sitting, but he did request a song tonight. he requested 'eyes like yours'." you, once again, had to pause before speaking because the crowd was screaming so loud.
"i know there's a lot of speculation on this song and who it's about. well, i'm here to set the record straight." you beamed, "this song is about sid and i wrote it in 20 minutes after i got home from our first date. so, would it be okay if i performed it for you?" the crowd screamed in response, "all right." you looked back to your band and gave them a nod.
you performed the song, looking over in the direction where sidney was standing, a smile on your face the entire time. you strummed the last note, and you felt the walls shake. the crowd screamed even louder, their attention on something on the other side of the stage.
you looked over and saw sidney walking on stage with a bouquet of flowers. you smiled, taking off your guitar and setting it down, making your way over to him and hugging him, shoving your face into his neck. you had seen him a few hours ago, but he had apparently forgotten to mention his surprise appearance on stage.
"sidney crosby, you never fail to surprise me," you laughed, kissing his cheek and taking the bouquet he was holding out for you. you pulled away and made your way back over to the microphone.
"pittsburgh, i love you forever and always." you blew a kiss to the crowd and waved, "thank you, good night." you turned back to sidney, who was smiling.
he held his hand out for you, and you grabbed it. he waved to the crowd as you made your way off the stage. your band said their goodbyes, tossing picks and guitar sticks to the crowd, before following you off.
"i love you, you crazy man." you smiled as you looked up at sidney.
"i love you right back, crazy lady." he kissed your head, pulling away with the biggest smile on his face you'd ever seen.
taylor's tumblr-versary!

just a lil firefighter!sid fluff for y'all :)
gif from @ehghtysevenarchive + per this ask and others
Surely, the chief of Canada's oldest fire department has more important things to do on a crisp morning, the last one preceding a fresh week, than this. He most definitely does. And, yes, Chief Crosby is known for his pragmatic approach to, well, everything.
But neither carries weight here—not when she calls.
Leaky faucet, dead car battery, unreachable spider... It doesn't matter. One ring, and he's rushing home. He can't pin-point when the pattern began, likely sometime shortly between the day you moved into town and his first off-day, but it's a routine he's come to enjoy despite the extra strain on both his schedule and his body; Sidney never thought sharing a property line could be so tedious or time-consuming.
He knows he shouldn't enjoy the distraction as much as he does. You aren't together, Sidney doesn't ever allow his imagination wander that far, but he can't help it. He can't help but help. He rarely turns down anyone in need, which has done wonders for his reputation within the community, but with you... With you, it's different, and embarrassingly so.
He doesn't have the words to explain it. Not that he needs to, it's written plainly across his face.
There's a reason you're regular fixtures in the town's gossip column.
When he arrives on scene—not ten minutes after his F-Series crawled down the gravel drive—Sidney shakes his head and laughs. Collecting his cell and his radio, he slips out of the truck, watching as you fret like a mother hen.
Still in your slippers, you're stood at the base of a decently-sized red spruce wedged between his yard and yours, your crumpled face angled up into the yellow-green needles. You're the very picture of worry, wringing your trembling hands and muttering to yourself.
A stray kitten caught in a tree, that's what's got you in a such a state.
"Well, this is a new one," he bellows in lieu of a greeting, slamming the door shut as his boots hit the ground.
Briefly, your glassy eyes dart in his direction. You're midway through your customary apology when he arrives at your side and quiets you, just as he always does.
"They're more than capable of holding down the fort for however long it takes to rescue our new friend, okay?"
"I know, but what if—"
"But nothing," Sidney huffs, and he dares to take you by the shoulders. And, externally, he ignores the way you shiver under his palms. "If I didn't think it was safe for me to step out for a couple of minutes, I wouldn't. You believe me, right?"
You nod, bottom lip pinched between your teeth.
"Good. Now, how 'bout you keep an ear on this," Sidney sets the clunky satellite radio in your hand, "—and I'll grab the ladder from the shed?"
He doesn't really need your help monitoring the channel, but he knows you'll feel better if you feel like you're doing something. Like him, you find comfort in your utility.
In less than a minute, Sidney re-emerges, rounding the corner with a ladder in hand. You're in the same spot, now fidgeting with the radio, anxiously dumping it from one palm to the other and back again. He follows your gaze to line up the simple equipment necessary for the rescue operation.
Sidney's heart swells as you quietly step forward to spot him.
Lucky for everyone, the ball of orange fur is on the branch nearest to the ground. Sidney needs only to step up onto the first wrung to safetly coax the frightened creature into his waiting hands, he's back on the ground not long after.
He gives the kitten a gentle parting scratch under the chin, then transfers the purring fluff to you. The soft bundle takes to you immediately, nuzzling into your chest like that's where it wanted to be all along.
"I think he likes you," Sidney observes with a cheek-numbing grin.
Your lips are tipped up at the end and there's fan of happiness rooting itself around your eyes. Your mouth opens to reply, but before the words come—
"Well, would you look at this?"
Across the quiet street and a few houses to the left sits an audience of two. Both of which are now cooing as loudly as two ladies in their sixties can manage. Coffee cups in one hand and their cellphones propped up in the other, they fawn over the two of you as if it's live theater.
Sidney curses their sons, who he'd completed the explorer program with as teens, for enabling this technological torture.
"Smile, you two! Oh, Denise is just going to eat this up," one of them, a spitfire in a 4'11 frame by the name of Mrs. Bouchard, exclaims to her co-conspirator, Ms. Johnston.
Then, to no one's surprise and Sid's chagrin, they giddily type out their respective messages to the local paper's equally-nosy editor-in-chief.
"Looks like we're front-page news again," you hum bashfully.
The tabby mewls in your arms. You curl into the little bundle of fur, lips landing between its delicate ears.
Sid studies you in his periphery as he slips in and out of heady contemplation, ultimately deciding he doesn't mind as much as he once did. "That we are..."
eek! wait, why do i luv them already 🥹
as always, i would really appreciate if you reblogged my work, left a comment or dropped by my inbox w some feedback :) fandom runs on engagement, and so do writers!! thx a mil in advance!

“Fuck!”
The front door slams and you’re startled from your place on the couch. Setting your book down you listen to the sounds of bags being carelessly tossed onto the floor, shoes hitting the back of the hall closet, little grunts of frustration.
You’d watched the game, you knew why Sid was pissed. But in truth, you’d never seen him this upset, never heard the frustration he emitted with one word, never had him slamming his bags down in anger.
“Sid?” you stand from the couch just as he rounds the corner into the living room. He’s ditched his shoes and suit jacket but his posture is stiff, his shoulders tense as he stands before you. “Oh baby-“
Your words are cut off as Sidney takes a step forward, chest pressing to yours as his dark eyes scan your face. He’s pissed. Not with you, never with you, but you know in an instant that tonight you’ll be the one bearing the burden of his anger and the thought excites you.
“What can I do to make it better,” you ask quietly, eyes still locked with Sid’s.
“Strip.”
Silently you comply, your ratty sleep shirt and cotton shorts being tossed aside easily. You watch Sidney take a seat in the leather armchair in front of you as you tug your panties down, stepping out of them with his icy gaze locked on you.
“On your knees for me, princess,” Sid’s voice is barely more than a growl as he unabashedly runs his eyes up and down your body. “C’mon show me how much of a slut you are for me.”
You kneel in front of Sid’s chair, wide eyes staring up at him. His fingers curl into your hair softly then pull. You gasp, Sidney using the opportunity to dip two fingers into your mouth. He doesn’t have to tell you what to do as you close your lips around his fingers and suck harshly. Satisfaction pulses through you as you swirl your tongue around and take his fingers deeper, his eyes going dark at the sensation.
“Just like that,” Sid groans as you blink up at him. “Give it all to me, such a good girl on your knees for me.”
With a tug on your hair, your chin is tilted up, Sidney’s fingers popping out of your mouth. He watches you for a moment before letting you go, hands going to his belt as he unbuckles it and unzips his pants.
“C’mere, want to fuck your face,” Sid groans. “Want to see those pretty lips wrapped around my cock.”
Not wanting to waste any time your hands fly to Sid’s pants, pushing them down just enough to free his already dripping dick. You wrap your hands around him, preening as his head drops back in a moan. With a smirk you lean forward, bringing him into your wet and waiting mouth. His hips thrust up and you moan around him at the feeling of his dick hitting the back of your throat.
“Aren’t you a good little slut for me,” Sid pants out, eyes never leaving you as you work him with your mouth. “You’re taking me so well, so fucking good.”
You hollow your cheeks just as Sid thrusts his hips up again, taking him deep as he keeps up a fast pace. His hands grip your hair tightly as he fucks your face, tears streaming down your cheeks, “Choking on my dick, princess? You love it don’t you, bet you’re soaking wet right now.”
Dipping your hand down you run two fingers through your dripping pussy then hold them out to Sid. He groans as he pulls your fingers into his mouth, sucking hard on the flesh as he tasted your juices.
A gasp leaves you as Sidney moves his hands down to your hips and hauls you off his dick, placing you on his lap.
“Ride me, princess.”
You don’t need to be told twice. You only give him a few tugs before lining yourself up with Sid’s cock, slowly taking him all in. Moans escape both of you as you take a moment to feel Sid inside of you.
“So big… Fuck baby you stretch me so well,” you gasp out. “Holy fuck…”
Sid’s hand comes to deliver a harsh smack to your ass, another gasp coming from you at the painful and pleasurable feeling, “Stop fucking talking and ride my dick. Show me how much of a slut you are.”
You nod but Sidney shakes his head and grabs your face, pulling you closer to him, “I need words, baby.”
“Yes, sir,” you breathe out just as he thrusts up into you. “Ohhh-“
Another slap hits your ass and you whimper, taking Sidney’s punishing thrusts in stride. You keep up with his thrusts, grinding your hips down into his as you move as one. One of his hands comes to your waist while the other pulls your hair back, exposing your neck to him. His lips find purchase there, biting harshly before he soothes the spot with his tongue.
“Need to show everyone how much of a slut you are,” Sidney whispers against your sweat-slicked skin. “Show them who you belong to. Who do you belong to baby?”
Sid snakes his hand on your waist down to where he’s thrusting into you and slowly rubs your clit. The sensation has you near tears as he watches you on his lap.
“Answer me,” he growls. “Who does this pussy belong to?”
“You! Fuck only you, Sidney,” you cry out as he leans forward and sucks your nipple into his mouth. “Baby… So close…”
“You don’t come till I say you can,” he says in your ear, voice low and dangerous. “Okay?”
You nod and give an affirmative sound as Sid continues to thrust into you. Your fingers are digging into his shoulders, grinding into his hips to get that last bit of friction you need to trigger your orgasm.
“So hungry for my dick, aren’t you baby? Fuck you’re so tight, riding me so well,” Sid’s words make a lewd moan fall from your lips as your hips meet his again. “C’mon princess, give it to me. Come with me.”
“Sid-“
“That’s it, baby, let me feel you clench around me,” he groans, pressing his face into your neck. “Milk my cock, it’s all for you princess.”
With a moan, you throw your head back as your orgasm rocks through you. Sid gives you a few more sloppy thrusts before he stills, teeth brushing against your pulse point as he holds you close to him. You both take a few minutes to catch your breath, clinging tightly to each other.
“Thank you, baby,” SId murmurs into your hair as his fingers dance along your back. “I’ll draw a bath?”
“I’ll pour the wine.”

Tumblr media
i. (1994)
you'd known sidney your entire life. one of the first memories you had with him was fighting him for the last hockey stick in the store.
well, it wasn't the last hockey stick. but it was the last one of all the types you used to play. it just so happened to be the only one sidney used.
after a game of rock, paper, scissors (you won), sidney got mad and demanded a best of three. maybe it was the defiant look in his eyes at only seven years old, but you decided he could have the stick.
"are you sure?" he asked, now looking hesitant about taking the stick.
you nodded, "i'm sure. they'll get one of the sticks i use in a few days. you can have this one. i'll just steal my brother's stick until then."
sidney grinned, "thanks, y/n."
you smiled back at him, feeling the start of a friendship. you'd lived near him your entire life, but you'd only begun talking to him because of hockey.
"just don't forget to send me a card when you go to one of your tourneys," you told him.
you and sidney laughed over that, before heading back home with your parents. it was after this day that you began to say hi to each other in the halls of school, that you decided to pair up for projects, that you became friends.
over the two months it took until christmas morning, you forgot about what you'd told him. but sidney didn't forget his promise.
and it was on december twenty fifth, that you received a post card in the mail from some place in quebec. a seven year old sidney had tried his best to make the letters look pretty, writing on the side, 'merry christmas, and thanks for the hockey stick, y/n. it helped me win!'
you peered in the envelope, finding a picture of sidney hoisting his giant hockey trophy. you smiled at that.
even though he was so far away, it felt like you were celebrating christmas together.
--
ii. (2004)
'sidney patrick crosby, you have got to be kidding me! you have a huge hotel, you're in finland, and you've got some of the best people with you. and yet, you're saying you wished you were here playing pond with the rest of us? you're crazy. anyways, make sure you score a goal or something, and have lots of fun! honestly, not scoring is fine if you have fun. good luck at the world juniors! i'll be cheering you on from back home :))'
you signed off the letter, sealing it and placing it to the side to deliver later.
at seventeen years old, sidney had become the only under-18 player at this year's world junior tournament for team canada. it was a thing to celebrate, but sidney was upset he would be missing the town's annual christmas pond hockey game.
you and him had played together on the same team for the last nine years, winning every time. this was the first time he wouldn't be here to help your team defend the title.
but that was okay, you thought as you packed up your christmas gear and made your way to the pond.
because sidney was going to play on your t.v. tomorrow, at the national level. it was his first time playing for canada, and you knew he was excited for that.
he just wasn't a fan of missing the small things.
it was why he'd began sending you letters and post cards as he moved around for tournaments and hockey games. they were cute souvenirs, and you didn't mind sending him a letter back.
you just wished he could've been here to celebrate christmas with the rest of you.
--
iii. (2009 - pretend ft was invented a year earlier)
"merry christmas, love."
you smiled, "merry christmas sid."
sidney adjusted his phone, fixing the facetime so you could see him better. you laughed as he struggled for a minute, finally getting a proper angle.
"don't move!" you said. "there, perfect. now your entire face is on my screen."
he laughed as he shook his head to himself.
the two of you had been friends for thirteen years before he worked up the courage to ask you out. and for the last two years of your relationship had been amazing. there were ups, like seeing him win the stanley cup, and there were downs, like seeing him take some uncalled for hits.
but you were happy. and so was sid.
the two of you had planned to celebrate christmas together in pittsburgh, until a family emergency had you coming back to nova scotia last minute.
everything turned out fine, but it was just too late to get a ticket back to pittsburgh.
even so, you and sid had found a way to work around that.
the two of you spent most of the day on the phone with each other, talking and laughing together. it wasn't what either of you had planned, but you made it enjoyable.
it was a great christmas.
--
iv. (2012)
"sidney, will you get down here already?"
"i'm coming, i'm coming," he called from upstairs.
you sighed, waiting for your husband to get up and get downstairs. christmas morning was the one morning you were happy to get out of bed, but it was also the one morning sid wanted to sleep in.
sam, sidney's dog, came down the stairs, curling around by the christmas tree as he waited for sid with you.
a few minutes passed before sidney made his way downstairs, eyes half closed but a sleepy smile plastered on his face to greet you.
"good morning, love," he pressed a kiss to your forehead. "merry christmas."
"merry christmas," you smiled, pressed a kiss to his jaw. "we eating breakfast first or presents first?"
"mmm, breakfast," sid decided.
"i knew you were going to say that," you laughed, pulling him along to the kitchen.
you'd already prepared breakfast before he came down. some eggs, sausage and bread. it was a good way to pass the time as you waited for sid to get downstairs.
the two of you took your seats, laughing as you ate breakfast and discussed how far you'd gone in life together.
"you almost tripped on the ice," he reminded you.
"no one told me i had to go out on the ice after you guys won," you argued. "i was so excited over you guys winning the stanley cup, i didn't even notice i was being ushered to the ice until i took my first step."
sid laughed as the two of you slowly made your way to the living room.
"here, open my present first," he said, rummaging under the tree to pull out a long, rectangular box.
the two of you had started the tradition of opening all of your sentimental gifts before the other cute ones. and even though you wanted to go first this year, you supposed it was alright if sid got this one.
you unwrapped the box, pulling out a familiar hockey stick. one that you'd given sidney eighteen years ago.
"oh my god," you muttered, tears building up in your eyes.
"i found it in my parent's garage last summer," he shrugged a little. "i remembered how badly you wanted it. and even though it's too small now, i thought you'd like the memory."
"i love it," you grinned, wiping the corners of your eyes. "it's absolutely perfect. i'm putting this up next to that picture of you holding up the trophy."
sid laughed at your response, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
"you can do whatever you like with it."
you put the stick to the side, your hands slightly shaky as you grabbed another, much smaller, box. "here. now open my present."
sid took the box from your hands, unwrapping it and opening it. he stared at the contents of the box, unable to form a sentence as he looked between the box and you.
"you -- this -- seriously?" his eyes shined as he stared at you.
you nodded, feeling the tears build up yourself. "we're having a baby."
sid laughed, pulling you in for a hug. "oh my god, this is amazing. a baby, you and me."
the two of you held each other that day, celebrating christmas together.

Chapter 8

Sid’s POV
I went to the rink after I left the café. The last thing I wanted to do was fight with Brittany, but she could have been hurt, if it was him, and if she can’t tell me something that important, how are we supposed to be together. I am mad at her.
I was shooting pucks, skating around, I could be back in the game in a week. I was doing laps trying to get my mind off of Brittany, but it wasn’t working. I turned the bends when I saw Max coming out of the locker room.
“hey” he said
“Hey, how‘d you know I was here?”
“you were upset, I kinda thought you‘d be shooting pucks”
“I‘m not upset”
“yeah, right”
“Did you talk to her?”
“no, but I saw her, she was crying.”
I didn’t want her to cry, but how could she not tell me?
“dude, I don‘t know who this Kyle dude is but I don’t think she would have cheated on you.”
“what! You think she cheated on me, no dude no it was something else…. I can’t tell you.”
“oh”
“Where is she now?”
“her place, you going to see her?”
“no”
“why?”
“because, I‘m still mad at her, she could have been-- never mind.”
There was a game that night I went to. I asked Brittany to come earlier that day. I kinda figured she wouldn’t come , but I didn’t blame her. Then I heard a light knock. I looked at the doorway. Brittany was standing there. You could tell she was crying. I waved for her to come in. She sat down next to me. I was still upset with her, but I do love her.
“Sidney, I‘m sor--” she started
“no”
“What?” she asked, turning towards me.
“I don't want to talk about it right now.”
“Then when”
“I don‘t know, but not now”  I put my hand on her knee.
We sat there the whole game, we barely talked when the game was over, we just stood there.
“I should get going” she said
“Okay” I lightly kissed her cheek. She looked up at me then quietly looked down, and walked away. I grabbed her hand.
“Umm, Brittany, I'm not going to lie, I'm still upset with you for not telling me, but I love you."
"I love you too, but please don't be mad at me."
"Britt,I just don't want anything to happen to you?" I grabbed her other hand.
“I know,  I'm thankful for you, I think the whole thing freaked me out and i didnt want to really think that it could be him.”
"Britt"
“Yeah” I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. “Sidney please don't be mad at me, it's killing me not talking to you."
"and you don't think it's killing me. Babe we’re okay” she let out a breath. “Promise me no more secrets”
“Promise.” she wrapped her arms around me. I smiled and kissed the top of her head. I pulled away and looked at her, she smiled and I kissed her. She giggled, into the kiss.
“Come on, let's go down to the locker room.” i said
Britt’s POV
We got down to the locker room. We hung out for a little bit.
“I’m gonna head out, i gotta work in the morning” I whispered in his ear
“Okay, i'll walk you”
“No stay , i’m parked in player parking im fine”
“Babe”
“Babe” i mocked him, i smiled
“I love you” he wrapped his arms around me.
“And I love you” he kissed me. “I’ll call you “
“Okay, be careful” he smiled at me
I walked out of the arena to a dark parking lot, smiling from ear to ear. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I was this happy. I was finally feeling comforable with myself. I giggled to myself, then I felt someone put their hand over my mouth. I jumped, dropped my bag and he put his other arm around me, and carried Me to the back of the parking lot. I tried to get out but his arm was very tight around me. He held me against the wall. Still with his hand over my mouth he came in front of me, and removed his hand I screamed.
He covered my mouth again. I screamed into his hand and bit him. He moved his hand. He drag me to the back of the parking lot.
"bitch" i kicked away from him, and tried to take off running. but he grabbed me, and threw me up against the wall by my neck.
"let go of me"
"No"
“Kyle please”  I cried "what do you want?"
"Brittany, you know what I want," he said, grabbing my hips.
"let go" he started pulling my shirt. I hit him, and kept pushing him away. "Stop it" I said he smacked me across the face. I fell to the ground.
"get up" he yelled
"no"
"Now" he stood above me. I stayed there, trying to catch my breath.
"Fine, you want it that way" he said, getting on the ground, grabbing me to put me up straight. I screamed when he touched me.
"help! help!"
"Shut up" he hit. I was crying so hard.
"why don't you leave me alone?"
"I love you Britt, you know how hard it is to find you. I thought you would never leave your parents, and I know you still love me."
"no you don't'. and I love someone else."
"who that hockey boy"
I didn't say anything, and thought about Sidney, maybe he would come after me or try to find me.
"Sidney" I whisper
He ripped my shirt over my head . He started to unbutton my pants. I tried to kick him but he stopped me. I felt blood run down my face, and I could taste it on my lips.
"I said shut up" He slapped me across the face. then I felt him get lifted off of me.
Sid's POV
I came out of the arena, with Max, Marc, Jordan, and Geno, Thinking if I should go to Brittany's or not. I heard a light scream, must just be the fans, Then I heard it again, and it wasn't a fan. I stepped on something. I looked down at Brittany's bag. I Bent over and picked it up. I put my hand to make them stop talking. I listened again and screamed.
“What the -” Max said.  I dropped her bag, and ran down the parking lot.
"Sid," Marc yelled. I stopped when I saw a guy over Brittany, he was trying to unbutton her pants.
"I said shut up" he said, slapping her, when I grabbed him by the shirt off of her. I slammed him into a wall.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I yelled
I looked down at Brittany who was trying to lift her head and open her eyes, it broke my heart to see her like that. Then I looked at him, then back at her, then back at him.
"you’re Kyle," he nodded, and smiled. I punch him, again, and again
"how's it feel to get punched by someone bigger than you huh?" he punched me then i punched him. I kept punching him when someone grabbed my arm and Geno and Jordan held Kyle back.
"Sid Dude stop." Marc said
"you asshole." i said
"Sid we got him, Brittany needs you." Max said
"Let me tell you, as long as I'm around and in her life, you'll never go anywhere near her."
I let go of him, and went over to Brittany. I put one hand on the back of her neck and lifted her up a little. I put my hand to her side and she gasped.
"sorry" I choked , i took off my jacket, and wrapped it around her.
She shook her head. She has a cut above her eye, and blood on her lip.
"It's okay, now I gotcha ya." I pulled her close
"Sidney" she whisper
"yeah, baby"
"it hurts"
"I know, I’m gonna get you help" I said, holding back tears.
"I called  911" V ran up,
"Okay" I said, choking on my tears.
Within ten minutes they were there. They took Brittany to hospital and Kyle went to jail. I told the cops what I saw. Then I followed them to the hospital.
When I got there, I called her parents. I was going nuts, I was walking back and forth.
"Sid, why don't you sit down" Vero said
"no, i can't, she's in there, I don't know what is going on there won't tell me anything" she put her hand on my shoulder and sat me down.
"calm down, relax"
"i love her"
"I know, and she is one of my best friends now, we're all worried about her. We're all here with you Sid, and here for her." I sat there with my head in my  hands.
"Sidney" I looked up. Her parents, brother, and her sister, were coming in.
"have you heard anything" her mom asked
"no, they won't tell me anything"
"why?"
"I'm not family"
"we'll find something. Don't worry."
I nodded, I watched them go up to the desk, and the nurse took them to her. I waited an hour. Then they came back out. I walked up to them
"How is she?"
"She's gonna be Okay, she's tired, she looks really weak, she got some really bad cuts and bruises, and she got two broken ribs." I took a deep breath, and put my head down.
"She's been asking for you." i looked back up
"Can I go see her?"
"yeah, I'll talk to them, you can go back there."
"thank you" i nodded “thank you”
“Sweetheart” her mom grabbed my shoulders and stopped me. “Breathe,”  I took a deep breath “and Sidney thank you, you saved her life if you didn't get there. Who knows what he would have done."
I nodded and went to her room.
"Sid" her brother stopped me
"yeah?
"Really, thank you for what you did, Brittany she's my.... little sister she means alot to me.
"You're welcome, I just can't believe some would do that to a girl."
"I know, thank you"
I nodded, and went to find out what room she was in, then went there.
I looked into the room. I saw her sitting in the bed, playing with her blanket, with her head down. I took one step into the room, and she looked up. I looked into her beautiful blue eyes. I barely noticed her busted lip and cut above her eye, and the bruises on her face. Her blue eyes started to fill with tears. I walked up to her. I held her hand.
"I would say don't cry but you've been through alot baby" She put her hands around my neck very lightly. “So cry”
"thank you" she cried into my chest. I pulled her into a hug. she jumped
"sorry" I let go
"It's okay" she looked up at me. Her eyes were heavy.
"what?" she asked "I look horrible huh?" she put her head down.
"no" I slowly lifted her head back up."your beautiful"
"what?" she asked
"nothing"
"Sidney?"
"I don't know, I ....I um....It just.. I told you that I would never let anybody hurt you."
"Sidney, you got there just in time." She said "I'm gonna be okay, I might not look the same, or walk as fast for a while, but I'm going to be okay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," I nodded. "I’m just scared, I guess."
“he going away, you have nothing to be scared about”
she nodded
"why don't you get some sleep? Okay” i stood up, i kissed her forehead.
"Okay" she slowly laid down. I sat down in a chair next to her bed.
"Sid?"
"yeah?"
"Will you stay with me tonight?"
"Oh Yeah, I'm not going anywhere,"  I told her.
I got a little sleep last night. I just laid in bed with my eyes closed. I was in so much pain, every time. I moved or breathed. After hours of just lying there, I picked up my head, and looked at the clock. It was 6:00 am I looked over at Sidney, who was lying on the couch with his back towards me. I put my head back down and I fell asleep for like an hour.
I got up at like 7:00am. I got up really slowly trying not to move my mid section too much. I looked over at the couch. Sid was gone and my mom walked in the room.
“Hey sweetheart.”
“Hi” i whispered
“how‘d you sleep?” she asked
“I didn't”
“Tonight will better”
“I hope” I said “mom? Where‘d Sidney go?”
“He's still here, I think he went to get a cup of coffee.”
“okay”
A few minutes later Sidney came in.
“Good morning Miss Taylor, '' Sidney said, handing a cup to her.
“Sidney, what did I tell you to call me?”
“good morning anne”
“that’s better”
“morning babe”
“morning”
“How are you feeling?” he grabbed my hand,
“sore”
“Did you need anything?” he asked,
“no, but I do have to go to the bathroom.”
“here sweetheart I‘ll help you” mom said
“I got her” Sidney said
“Okay”
He helped my out of bed
“Ow”
“careful, careful” he told me, he lightly put his hand on my waist, we got to the bathroom.
“I got it from here.”
“Are you sure?” he wouldn't let go of me
“yeah, but if you hear me fall, come get me.”
“That's not funny” he looked at me.
“I know, ill be okay.”
When I was done, I opened the door, Sid was standing by the door, he jumped up from leaning on the frame. He helped me back to the bed.
“thank you”
“Of course, baby” he kissed the top of my head, he started pulling the covers on me.
“Do you have practice today?”
“Yeah”
“Are you going?” I asked
“I don‘t know”
“You should go.”I reached for his hand, and he grabbed mine tight.
“I don---”
“Did you get any sleep?” I asked
“no”
“go to practice, take a shower, take a nap.”
“Babe, I don‘t want to---”
“Sidney, I’m going to be fine.”
“Sid, she's right, I was talking to her doctor, he said that she could go home today.” my dad said
“really” I said
“yeah”
“so we can go to your place, get you packed up, and go home.”
“what?”
“You're coming home with us, you can‘t by yourself, you can barely walk.” mom said
“I don‘t want to go, I want to go back to my place.”
“I can stay with her” Sid said
“That’s very nice of you Sidney, but you have games, and stuff you won‘t be there most of the time.”
“Im on IR”
“Mom, I‘ll stay with him.”
“no, you're coming home.”
“Mom, no i'm an adult” i told her, i have to live my life the way i want i can't let this …. Stop me.”
“Okay…okay “ sidney whispered, he whipped the tears off my face. “Don’t get worked up” he told me  “Okay, I think I‘m gonna go to practice, then go to my place pack a bag, and i'll stay with you”
“Okay” he kissed me.
“I love you” I said
“I love you too, try to get some sleep.” he said, standing up, he turned towards my parents “keep me updated. My mother nodded.
Hours later which felt like days. I was finally released, my parents drove me back to my place, where my mother still tried to get me to come home with her, it didn't work. I opened my front door. Sidney was standing in the kitchen, the whole place was clean. There was a vase of flowers sitting on the table.
“Babe?”
“Oh” he turned around. “Hey why didn't you call? I could have helped you up.”
“We got her.” my dad
“What did you-”
“Oh I cleaned, and went shopping, did some meal prep, so if there is any time I'm not here you can just pop it in, and you don't have to cook anything.” he said, i smiled at him.
“Well i have been corrected,” my mom said “ we’ll leave you two alone. If you need anything let us know.`` I hugged them goodbye. I looked back at Sidney, I smiled and I grabbed my side.
“Okay, let's get you set up on the couch, so you can rest.” Sid came around to me, helped me to the couch, and bought me a blanket. “Want some water? I'll get you some -”

I'm still haunted by the memories - S. Crosby
Tumblr media
Summary: Maeva thought five years was long enough to get over Sidney breaking her heart. Apparently not.
Words: 5.5k
This is my fic for @senditcolton’s birthday bingo! I chose the bingo squares ‘wedding season’, ‘It was always you’, ‘free space – argument scene’, ‘second chance romance’, and ‘interrupted kiss’. I haven’t written a full fic for Sid in ages, so I really hope you like this!
Warnings: angst, past break up scene, exes to (potential) lovers
Title: Little do you know, by Alex & Sierra
~
“What am I to you?”
“What?” Sidney asked, confused.
“What am I to you? What do I mean to you?”
“What’s going on, Maeva?” he asked, frowning.
“Can you just answer my question please?”
Sidney frowned even more at the sharpness of her voice. “You’re my girlfriend. I love you. What’s going on?”
“You love me?”
“Yes! Mae, seriously…”
She could tell he was getting frustrated now, but that didn’t settle the gnawing feeling in her stomach.
“We’ve been together five years now. I love you more than I thought could’ve ever loved anyone. Five years of cheering you on no matter what. Five years of supporting you and the team and all the better halves as they’ve come and gone. Five years of always coming second but putting on a smile because I know hockey is your whole world. But I thought I would’ve at least had a part of it?”
“I don’t understand what you mean. Of course you’re part of my world,” Sidney said, confused.
Was he really going to be that cruel, to pretend he didn’t know what she meant?
“At the team get together this weekend, when we celebrated the latest Pens rookie getting engaged, someone joked to you about when you were going to put a ring on my finger too. But you just snorted and changed the subject…”
She trailed off, watching Sidney’s face pale a little bit, his reaction sinking like a stone in her stomach.
“I don’t…where did you hear that?”
“I was right behind you, Sid. I was right there and Kris & Cath saw me but you didn’t. They sent me pitying smiles and I hated it, Sid. Why don’t you want a life with me?” Maeva asked, her voice finally cracking as tears threatened to spill.
“We already have a life together. Why do we need to complicate it?”
“Complicate it? You think marriage is just a complication?” she shot back.
“I just don’t see why we need to put a label on things. We’ve got a good thing going,” Sidney huffed.
“Labels? Are you kidding me? I’m nearly 30, Sid, and all I have to show for the thing I’ve poured my heart into for five years is a couple of photos on your cup days? You won’t take me out in public, you don’t talk about me to anyone outside of your team and your immediate family, you can clearly drop me at any moment…are you ashamed of our relationship? Have I been wasting my time?”
“Damn it Mae, I’m not ashamed! I thought you understood that I like my privacy!”
That’s all he took out of it?
“I know you value it, Sid, but I didn’t think it would get to this point. I didn’t think you would go this far. I’m tired of being an afterthought to you!”
“And I’m tired of you being so insecure!”
Her breath hitched in her throat as a pang of hurt rang through her chest, and she could see a flash of regret immediately pass over Sidney’s face.
“Maeva…”
“I’m done. I can’t do this anymore, Sid. There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel appreciated and there is nothing wrong with wanting to know that I have a future to look forward to. Because apparently I don’t. Who knew that Sidney Crosby was such a commitment-phobe?”
~
Maeva glanced out of the airplane window, hazy memories passing through her mind as the plane started its decent into Halifax airport. It didn’t seem like it had been five years since her life with Sidney had fallen apart, almost as long as their just-over-five-years relationship. But the memories of that awful night still burned her heart like a hot poker. She may have left him that night, may have returned to Canada, but she hadn’t been able to move back to Nova Scotia. She’d tried, sure, but she’d only lasted a few months before the memories of their time there together was too much to bear too. It had felt right to flee to the other side of Canada, all the way to Vancouver where she was able to secure an apartment and a job where no-one knew who she was. Maeva had only visited her parents a few times in the five years since – and only when she knew he absolutely wouldn’t be there.
Everything had just hurt too much. It still did.
But now, for the first time in as long as she could remember, she was heading back to Cole Harbour in the summer. Her cousin Natasha was getting married, and her aunt had begged Maeva to come home to join her parents in attending. If it wasn’t for the fact that she and Natasha had grown up as close as sisters, Maeva would’ve found an excuse somehow – but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. All she had to do was survive the long weekend. It was late Thursday evening that she’d flown over, leaving Friday for wedding errands, Saturday for the pre-wedding celebrations, and Sunday for the wedding day itself - both ceremony and reception. She’d managed to book a flight home at midday on Monday, but she knew that this weekend was going to be a test of her strength.
Maeva had done so well to protect her heart for so long, and she didn’t want a few days back in Cole Harbour to ruin it.
It didn’t take long for her to pick up her suitcase and head to the arrivals area, a small smile crossing her lips at the sight of her dad waiting for her. Maeva could happily admit that she was a daddy’s girl, through and through, the two of them having the only blonde hair in the family, his quiet calm aura always making her feel happy and secure. That was one of the only things she regretted about not toughing it out in Cole Harbour – she didn’t get to spend the time with her dad that he deserved.
She made a mental note not to take that for granted this weekend.
“My little Maeva,” he said gruffly, warmth seeping into every word as he hugged her tightly.
“It’s good to see you. I’m…I’m sorry it’s been so long,” she murmured when they eventually separated.
“Oh don’t you worry about that. I’m just glad you’re home for the wedding. Lord knows I need a little more sanity in the house.”
Maeva just snickered, looping her arm through her dad’s as they started to walk out to the parking lot. “Mom’s succumbed to wedding fever then?”
“Happily skipped into crazy town, more like it,” he grinned, “I don’t think I can survive another day of folding bits of paper into little birds to decorate the tables.”
Maeva just grimaced, making her dad laugh. That sounded like her idea of nightmare chaos. “Any chance we can avoid most of the wedding prep tomorrow?”
Her dad just smiled indulgently. “Oh I’m sure I can figure something out.”
She really had missed him.
~
Just as her dad had promised, he managed to get the two of them out of the intense wedding preparations that the family were taking part in on Friday. The two of them went out for a long breakfast in the morning, before her mom could bundle her into the car and over to her aunt’s, and after a slow walk by the waterside, telling him all about her life in Vancouver and her small circle of friends and her low-key retail managerial career, they eventually made their way back to the house. Her mom was annoyed with them both, Maeva knew that much, but she couldn’t stay mad at Maeva for long, not really when she knew exactly why her only daughter never came home – and Maeva made up for it by ironing her dad’s shirt for the wedding and steaming his suit, her mom’s dress, and her own dress, while her father shined his shoes to her mom’s satisfaction.
There would be enough time to apologise to her cousin on Saturday during the welcome lunch up at Hatfield Farm, where 30 close family and friends would be staying overnight ahead of the wedding on Sunday (with the same 30 staying on the Sunday night). Thankfully the venue was only a 40 minute drive from her family home in Cole Harbour, so she would have plenty of time to make her flight back to Vancouver on the Monday.
She just had to get through the weekend first. One step at a time.
Saturday morning was as chaotic as Maeva thought it would be. Her mom had the three of them loading up her dad’s car like a military operation, checklist on clipboard included, to make sure that nothing was left behind, especially as their part of the family was in charge of the table centrepieces and fairy lights for decorating the reception hall. Once all of that, and their wedding outfits (and shoes and accessories) were ready, along with their overnight bags, it was coming close to midday, and with a picnic basket full of snacks and drinks for the little cabin that the three of them would be staying in, they hit the road.
Despite everything, it made Maeva smile as she recognised the other cars on their journey, all of them making their way to Hatfield Farm like a miniature invasion. The curse of a small town.
It didn’t take long to sort out the accommodation keys, and once Maeva had hung up her dress for the wedding (at her mom’s request to reduce wrinkles), she sprayed a little perfume and fluffed up her blonde hair before rejoining her parents.
“Ready to face the circus?” her dad grinned.
“Honestly,” her mom tutted, elbowing him.
But even she gave Maeva a worried glance.
“I’ll be fine. Cole Harbour may be a small town, but it’s not like Sidney can pop up everywhere,” Maeva said, trying to convince herself as much as them. “It’ll be good to celebrate Natasha’s happy day.”
“Atta girl,” her dad said gruffly.
Her mom just nodded, threading her fingers through her dad’s to silently lead them across the grounds to the main reception hall, where the welcome lunch was being held. They weren’t the last people there, not by any means, but they definitely weren’t the first. Maeva could see her cousin walking towards them with a big smile on her face, dressed in a gorgeous peach dress and looking radiant with happiness, and that joy was infectious.
Until Maeva glanced across the other side of the room, that is.
The sound of her breath catching in her throat was enough to make her parents look in the same direction, and her unflappable dad scowled in a way she’d never seen before.
“What is he doing here?” her dad asked lowly, lips pursing as he turned back to look at her cousin.
Natasha glanced over and cursed under her breath. “Sid wasn’t meant to be arriving until later. I was meant to have enough time to give you a warning, Maeva. Carl invited him but wasn’t sure if he could make it – they’ve been friends since they were kids.”
“Curse of a small town,” she murmured, her smile shaky.
She glanced back at him, thankful that he hadn’t noticed her looking yet, her heart racing in a way that made her feel sick as she took him in. Sidney looked good, of course he did. Broad shoulders, giant ass, and thick thighs filling out his suit so perfectly, hair dusted with grey in a way that only made him look distinguished. He was standing sideways, talking with Nate (of course Nate was here too) and a couple of other guys from their hometown, and as he laughed, head thrown back, the sound of his ridiculous honking giggle made her want to cry.
She wasn’t ready. How could she think she was ready?
Her mom subtly took her hand in hers, squeezing gently to reassure her, only making her dad curse under his breath again.
“Hey, you’re my cousin. If him being here is going to ruin your weekend, I can kick him out. I don’t care if his name is on the town sign – you are family,” Natasha said firmly, voice still quiet.
Tears stung at her eyes slightly at her cousin’s care, but she shook her head. No, no she had to face being in Cole Harbour at the same time as him at some point. She wasn’t going to let him ruin things, not this time. “It’s been five years. I’ll survive.”
Natasha just frowned, taking Maeva’s free hand in her own.
“You just say the word and he’s gone, okay? I haven’t had a chance to be bridezilla yet,” she said, grinning sharply.
Maeva laughed a little wetly, shaking her head again, squeezing Natasha’s hand and her mom’s to say thank you silently.
“Everything will be fine. There will be enough people here that you can just avoid him!” her mom said, smiling.
Maeva didn’t need to look at her dad as he huffed to know that just wouldn’t happen. But still, she had to believe it was possible or she wasn’t even going to make it through today. She could avoid him as much as possible – there was only so much her heart could handle.
“Drinks?” Natasha suggested.
“Hell yes,” Maeva sighed.
Drinks, then setting up the reception hall with the fairy lights, and bringing in all of the table centrepieces ready for the venue staff to set up in the morning. Then maybe some more drinks. She could handle that.
When she eventually went to sleep close to midnight, her heart was aching in the worst way – Maeva hadn’t expected to actually be able to avoid Sidney, but she also hadn’t expected to feel his eyes trailing her around the room for the entire day.
And she was dreading tomorrow even more, now that she knew he would be there.
~
Breakfast in the morning was a communal affair. The wedding ceremony wasn’t until 2pm, and the staff at Hatfield Farm were putting on a breakfast spread for all the guests from 7-9am, so Maeva was making good use of it, knowing she wouldn’t eat for hours after this. Her dress was a flowy one thankfully, so she didn’t have to worry about carb bloating – it was one of the reasons she’d chosen it, along with the fact at it was light and airy enough for the warm weather and a gorgeous shimmery gold colour that complimented her wonderfully. And it didn’t conflict with the beautiful lilac and cream wedding colours either, which was a bonus.
Her parents had already eaten and headed back to the accommodation, leaving Maeva to finish her orange juice in peace. Still, being back in Cole Harbour after all this time, surrounded by people that she’d left behind in her efforts to leave him behind…it was almost too much, and she found herself stepping outside for some air to clear her head.
One more day.
She could make it one more day.
But the moment that she heard footsteps walking over to her, she knew her luck had run out.
“I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get you alone.”
Hello to you too, Sidney.
“Why would you even want to?” Maeva said, voice cold and polite as she turned to face him.
Sidney just winced. “Mae, come on, you know why.”
Oh screw him. Shortening her name like he used to, playing with her emotions like that? No.
“No, Sidney, I don’t know why,” she said shortly, “We broke up five years ago, almost as long ago as the whole length of our relationship was – so what could you possibly have to say to me?”
“Please don’t be like this. I’m trying to apologise,” he said, frowning.
“Apologise for what, exactly?” she asked, folding her arms over her chest.
Sidney just huffed out a frustrated breath, putting his coffee mug down on a nearby table.
“Maeva, I’m serious. I’m trying to be the bigger person here and-”
“Are you kidding me? The bigger person? Our relationship ended because you couldn’t commit, Sidney, and you’re talking about being the bigger person like I’ve done something wrong?” she said angrily,
The nerve. What the hell.
“If you would just listen to me…”
“Listen to what? What could you possibly have to say to me?” she spat, cutting him off again.
“If you’d stop interrupting me then I could actually say it!” he shot back, shades away from shouting.
“Uh, guys?”
Maeva looked sharply to the left, seeing Nate standing there awkwardly looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.
“What, Nate?” Sidney said shortly, cheeks flushed.
“Uh, your mom is looking for you, Maeva,” he explained, grimacing.
“Thanks. We were done here anyway,” Maeva said coldly.
“No we…”
But she just stormed away, not letting Sidney finish, ignoring the hissed conversation between the two men, trying desperately to keep her composure until she was alone. Just as Nate said, her mom was glancing around, and the moment that she spotted her, her face fell.
“Let’s get back to the rooms to get ready, yes?” her mom said, pasting a smile on her face.
It was all Maeva could do to nod, letting her mom usher her along, the fire in her chest from their building argument fizzling away into an all-consuming black hole of sadness. Why would he confront her like that? Why would he want to unsettle her like that after all these years? She would never have thought of him as cruel, but this…this was the last thing she needed. Those few minutes were everything she’d been trying to avoid, and the wedding hadn’t even officially start yet – how was she going to make it through the rest of the day?
The moment that their cabin door was shut behind them, her mom whirled around to face her.
“Maeva, sweetie, what happened?”
She opened her mouth to explain, but all that she managed to do was start crying, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her mom let out an uncharacteristic curse, cradling her in her arms, only making Maeva sob harder. This is why she never came home. This is exactly why.
She didn’t know how long it took for her to calm down, for her sobbing and tears to fade to sniffles, and she was just glad that her mom hadn’t changed into her wedding outfit yet.
“Give me the word and I will get laxatives put in his drinks. I know people,” her mom said seriously.
Maeva choked out a laugh, smiling shakily at her mom’s attempt to cheer her up, but shook her head.
“It was stupid. Just stupid. I wish he wasn’t here but I’m not going to give him the satisfaction of leaving,” Maeva said sadly.
“You’re a braver woman than I am,” her mom said, huffing out a laugh.
“Nah, I get it from you, eh?”
Her mom just smiled shakily, giving her another quick hug before pulling back to rest her hands on her shoulders.
“Let’s get ready for this wedding. Have a shower and then I’ll help you with your hair,” her mom said firmly.
Maeva just smiled, nodding her head, heading towards her room as she heard the shower stopping. By the time she’d gathered her towels and underwear, her dad was back in the room he shared with her mom, leaving her to shower quickly. Leaving her with her swirling thoughts.
Even though minutes ago her blood was boiling with his audacity, her heart still ached for him. Up close the grey in his hair looked even better than she’d thought, the slight laughter lines around his eyes only adding to his appeal. His voice was a smooth as she remembered, his figure just as broad and overwhelming compared to her slight frame as it always had been. Even his intensity, his emotion, was exactly as she remembered, sending shivers down her spine.
She missed him.
And she hated it as much as she loved it.
She loved him. Even as much as she wished she didn’t.
It didn’t take her long to do her make up and put on her dress, and she blow-dried her hair to the point where it was manageable by the time her mom knocked on her bedroom door.
“Oh sweetie, you look beautiful,” her mom said, voice earnest and sweet.
Maeva just grinned back at her, twirling on the spot to watch her golden dress flare in the mirror.
Her mom laughed, rolling her eyes fondly as she guided Maeva to sit down on the end of the bed. She expertly twisted half of her hair up into an elegant bun, fixing it in place with a couple of bobby pins and a ribbon that matched the gold of her dress, leaving the rest of her hair to flow down her back in blonde waves. It was simple but refined, and she felt pretty the moment she looked in the mirror.
“Thanks mom. Let’s do this thing.”
“That’s my girl.”
~
The wedding was beautiful. Maeva didn’t know what else she expected though, if she was being honest. Natasha looked ethereal as she glided down the aisle, her fiancé crying a little when he saw her, and the two of them didn’t stop smiling at each other the whole ceremony. Maeva kept her eyes on them the whole time, even though she could feel eyes on her throughout the hour – she knew exactly who they belonged to, but she just couldn’t. She couldn’t, not at a wedding she knew she would never have.
All the guests moved into the reception hall, sitting at their assigned tables, Maeva sitting between her parents with each of them holding one of her hands like they didn’t want her to disappear. She could only imagine what her mom her told her dad about her breakdown this morning, but that was the last thing she wanted to think about right now. All through the wedding speeches Maeva sipped on her champagne, laughing at the appropriate moments, tearing up at her uncle’s heartfelt words, cheering the toasts to the new bride and groom. She could barely remember what she ate when the food came and went, but she dutifully ate under the watchful eye of her mom, making small talk with the other members of their table, answering politely to questions about her life in Vancouver, 6000km feeling even further away than ever before.
By the time the additional guests joined them all for the evening reception, Maeva was well on her way to being overwhelmed, but she joined the circle of people on the dancefloor to watch Natasha and her new husband in their first dance.
Just as the music started, a familiar figure stepped up next to her. Maeva froze, desperately trying to think of how to make a subtle exit, but Sidney gently pressed a flute of champagne into her hand.
“This is an apology drink,” he murmured. “I should never have lost my temper with you this morning.”
Not here. Not now.
She didn’t know what her face was showing as she glanced up at him but Sidney’s face just looked sad.
“Can we talk after their first dance finishes? Please?” he begged softly.
There was something in his voice that made her façade crack.
“Fine.”
She didn’t dare take her eyes off of Natasha and her husband for the rest of the dance, sipping the champagne flute, waiting until people started joining them on the dancefloor to slip away, Sidney subtly following her. Just off the side of the venue was a small courtyard, separated from the rest of the outside space by a trellis of flowers, just enough to give them a semblance of privacy.
Maeva put down the glass as Sidney joined her, wrapping her arms around herself partly as a guard, partly as comfort, her ex-boyfriend standing in front of her looking just as overwhelming as he always had.
“Thank you for agreeing to talk to me,” he started, smiling a little.
“What did you want to talk about, Sid?” she sighed.
“I messed up all those years ago,” he murmured.
No, no she couldn’t do this.
“Sidney I can’t,” she interrupted, shaking her head.
“Please, please just let me finish,” he begged.
She just bit her bottom lip, glancing away from him briefly to steel herself, before nodding.
“I have spent five years trying to think about what I would say if I ever got the chance to see you again. Five years playing the conversation over and over again in my head, going through every scenario, and right now in this moment, none of it is coming to my head,” he said softly.
That was so typically Sid.
“Forget what’s in your head. What’s in your heart?” she found herself saying.
He huffed out a laugh, nodding his head.
“I love you, Maeva,” he said, tears glistening in his eyes.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh god this was the last thing she’d been expecting.
He still loved her?
“Do you love me too? Is there any chance that you still love me?” he asked desperately.
He still loved her?
Running on pure instinct, Maeva choked out a sob as she leaned up and kissed him, hands clutching at his shirt.
Of course she still loved him.
Sidney didn’t hesitate as he kissed her slowly back, cradling her face with both hands, pouring everything into the embrace. Maeva’s head swirled as her blood surged and her heart raced…and then a couple of wedding guests stumbled outside too, clearly drunk. They were mostly giggling and falling into themselves, so they didn’t notice Sidney and Maeva springing apart, and as they stumbled around the corner Sidney quickly took one of Maeva’s hands in his, breaking her out of her frozen state of shock.
“You still love me?” Sidney asked hopefully.
“That was so stupid. I shouldn’t have…we shouldn’t have…”
His face fell.
“Please don’t run away. Please don’t leave me, not again,” Sidney begged, interrupting her rambling words.
She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t do this.
“We can’t just go back to how things were, Sid,” Maeva said sadly, “We’re different people now, we’ve both changed.”
“Then let me get to know you again. And you can get to know me,” Sidney said desperately, “We still love each other – isn’t that enough?”
Maeva’s face must’ve looked as incredulous as she felt, because he squeezed her hand a little tighter, eyes burning with intensity. She remembered that look. It still had the same effect on her, knowing that Sidney was leading up to something heart achingly earnest.
“You are right, I’ve changed – I’m not the same man I was before. I made the biggest mistake of my life taking you for granted, letting you go when I should’ve fought for us, and I regretted it the moment I realised you’d truly left. My stupid pride kept me from reaching out to you in the first few weeks, and when I got over myself, it was too late.”
“Sidney…” she murmured.
“No-one would tell me where you went. Your parents wouldn’t talk to me, or to my mom. Your friends blocked my number. All Taylor could find out was that you were in Cole Harbor for a few months before you left for good and that you’ve barely been back since. I searched for you, for any sign of you, wherever I went and it still wasn’t enough. I wasn’t enough.”
“Sidney,” she repeated, tears stinging her eyes.
“I am so sorry, Mae. I love you. I always have – it was always you. It was always going to be you, and I’ve spent five years regretting every single moment of that stupid fight and everything I did leading up to it. As selfish as it is, I can only hope that no-one else has your heart. Can you ever forgive me?”
Maeva swallowed heavily, letting go of his hand to run shaky fingers through her hair in an effort to compose herself. This was everything she’d ever dreamed of hearing from him and it was also everything she’d dreaded. She’d spent so long in therapy building up her walls, repairing her heart, learning how to heal herself and protect herself from falling into this kind of heartbreak again.
But she loved him.
She loved him so deeply that she didn’t know how she could ever stop. Sidney Crosby was so intrinsically part of her that she knew that, being honest with herself, she didn’t know what a life without him looked like. It was one of the main things she still talked about with her therapist, her inability to accept anyone new into her heart, and she knew deep down that no-one would ever replace him, not truly.
But was she ready to just fall back into his arms.
“I don’t know if I can,” she said softly, and wow wasn’t the devastated look on his face heartbreaking? “I want to, Sid, but I have spent years trying to move on from you and I don’t think I can handle going through what we did again.”
Sidney let out a shaky breath, smiling sadly as his eyes shined with tears. “The last thing I want is to hurt you. I just…I want to show you that I’ve changed. I want to show you all of the love that I should’ve shown you five years ago. You deserve that much. You should have someone love you in every single way that you absolutely deserve.”
“Sidney…” was all she could murmur again.
Maybe it was her lack of refusal, or the softness in her voice, but Sidney took one of her hands again, squeezing it gently.
“I know that we have separate lives now. I know that you have created something wonderful for yourself without me. But all I’m asking for is a chance to start over,” he said softly.
“But how would that work with you in Pittsburgh and me in Vancouver?”
“You’re a Canucks fan now?” he grimaced.
Of course that was his priority. Still, she found herself choking out a laugh, shaking her head as Sidney flushed a little with shame. “I haven’t watched hockey since I left Pittsburgh. Vancouver was just the furthest I could get away and still be in Canada.”
The look that passed over his face was a curious mix of sadness, regret, and frustration, before it settled into the determination she’d known for years.
“Can I call you?”
“What?” she asked, frowning.
“Can I call you?” he repeated. “I’m still not on social media, other than whatever the team makes us do. I’m getting better at texting. Emails are so-so. But I would love to talk to you, to hear your voice. I miss you, so much.”
How did he know exactly what to say to make her heart cry out?
“Sidney, come on,” she pleaded, trying to ignore the lump rising in her throat.
But he didn’t back down.
“Tell me no, Maeva. Tell me no, and I will walk away. You know I’m not that guy – no means no, and if you mean it then I will never bother you again,” he said seriously.
“You know I can’t,” she murmured.
Sidney just let out a shaky breath, squeezing her hand again as a smile hopeful smile crept across his lips.
“So let me call you. We can start with baby steps. I know you have a life in Vancouver now…but I just want to be part of it. I wasted five years of my life without you because I was an idiot who didn’t appreciate the incredible woman I had – all I want is another chance. Do you love me?”
He really was devastating, wasn’t he?
“Do you love me?” he repeated, running his thumb over her knuckles.
“I do love you. I don’t think I know how to stop,” she said, feeling like an idiot but smiling anyway.
Sidney just smiled like he couldn’t believe his luck, and slowly lifted her hand to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently, keeping his gaze locked on hers.
“I love you, Maeva,” he murmured.
He kissed her hand again before gently lowering it back down to their sides, so much emotion in his face that Maeva didn’t know what else she could possibly do.
“You can call me. I’m making no promises, but you can call me,” she said softly.
The smile that spread across his face made her heart soar for the first time in years.

Little do you know how I'm breaking while you fall asleep? Little do you know I'm still haunted by the memories? Little do you know I'm trying to pick myself up piece by piece? Little do you know I need a little more time?
Oh wait, just wait, I love you like I've never felt the pain, Just wait, I love you like I've never been afraid, Just wait, our love is here, is here to stay, So lay your head on me.
