you were hanging out with the hughes brothers while the canucks visited the devils. your boyfriend was in the kitchen, grabbing you a glass of water while the other two tried to one up each other with embarrassing childhood stories.

"okay, but you were still the one who cried because you wanted to try pistachio ice cream and then didn't like it," quinn muttered.

jack's jaw dropped, causing you to laugh even harder at that.

luke watched you interact with his brothers, heart full and happy that you all got along the way you did. he handed you the glass of water, dropping down in the seat next to you with a sigh.

his brother's didn't pay him much mind, continuing on with their conversation as they watched t.v.

you nudged his shoulder, "what's wrong? why're you sighing like an old man?"

luke shrugged, picking at the sofa cushion. "no reason. just, you know, my girlfriend likes my brothers more than me."

you rolled your eyes, flicking him in the arm. "oh shut up. i love you more than them, they're just funny."

"i'm not funny?" he asked, placing a hand against his heart as if he was hurt.

"you are, but they give me funny stories about you," you answered.

luke's eyes widened in horror and he muttered to himself, "oh god. what did they tell you this time?"

Re reading the original hunger games is so funny bcus katniss can literally read haymitch's mind like what. I'm dying of thirst but haymitch hasn't sent me water, that must mean that there's some nearby!! And one kiss is one pot of broth!! Like she even acknowledges that it's strange when she's like oh to peeta this would just be a pot of broth. Haymitch will give her one look and katniss knows immediately what he means and she's right every time

“why do you ship them? I thought the ship wasn’t canon?” bro we’re talking about fictional characters, who don’t actually exist in real life, from a media that focuses solely on fictional events that are not real either. so what if these two made-up characters didn’t kiss in their source material? they have lots of nasty gay sex on archive of our own and thousands of novel length slow burn enemies to lovers fics written about them. the fanon content at this point far exceeds the whole canonical franchise. the problem isn’t “it’s not canon” the problem is that you don’t allow yourself to let go of canon and enjoy the wonder of fan contents that are just as good / valid

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

it’s unfortunate that (some) people in fandom spaces are starting to get too comfortable complaining and being rude to writers and artists who create contents they personally don’t like (“why are you making this character a top when he’s obviously a bottom? omg do you even understand his character?” “I’m so sick of seeing fan art and fanfic where this character is portrayed as a sadist when he’s actually misunderstood in my opinions, therefore anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and should be shamed” just to name a few I’ve seen) instead of curating their own fandom experiences by engaging only with contents they do like.

you want more fics where (x) is written in this specific way? either write one yourself or politely expressing your opinion about how you hope there will be more fics where (x) is written in this specific way instead of making fandom a toxic place by being rude to writers and artists who dare make contents that are not to your Personal Liking.

if the universe does not revolve around you, strangers and fandom spaces don’t have to cater exclusively to your personal preferences either.

to all my beloved writers and artists, write whatever you want, draw whatever you want. portray that character in whichever way you want to portray. I hope you have fun doing what you love. don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t do with the blorbo. go wild. I will always support you

Conclusions were drawn from their dialogue sounds and manner of speech in general in addition to my personal flair and interpretation.

And here's an incomplete list of mental notes on actually writing dialogue for characters:

Curly

expresses genuinely what he feels and what he means, though he's reserved and leaves a lot unsaid

casually playful and whimsical when talking to others or commenting on things

smooth talker

speaks delicately and de-escalatory when faced with a stressful situation

using british slang on occasion, yeah?

Anya

often encouraging or reassuring those she talks to

teasing, witty and playful with anyone not named jimmy

stutters when speaking to those named jimmy but outside of that, speaks smoothly with enthusiasm

speaks with implications, basically says iconic deep meaningful shit in a non-direct way

Swansea

mean, harsh, sarcastic and taunting

like anya, he says some deep shit but in a poetic and direct way

reminds me of Disco Elysium dialogue in terms of vibes

speaks grandiosely

" ain't, goin', el capitano, downstairs longnose, hear hear, ol' codger, rumb-a-tumblin' " very fun to write

speaks at the same time as he thinks, most of his dialogue feels like a stream of thoughts

it was your bi-yearly family get together, and everyone was having lots of fun. you hadn't seen some of your cousins in months, which was hard considering how close you were growing up.

but everyone was here today, including some of the new boyfriends. most of them were walking around the house, helping with the dishes and putting things away.

connor and you'd been dating for a few years now, so he was considered one of the older boyfriends. he had no one to impress anymore.

he sat with some of your uncles and cousins, talking about the cfl season. the nfl season was over for months, and now it was time for them to think about the cfl.

you nodded along to some story your cousin was saying, explaining that time that someone accidently sent her a christmas card, but she'd already spent the money.

suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you in. you tried not to giggle as connor hugged you from behind, resting his chin on your shoulder.

around you, your cousins continued their conversations, not even surprised by connor's sudden appearance.

you smiled to yourself, leaning back against his chest, and surrounded by the people you loved most.

it was perfect.
