The mention of the word "temporary" pulled Lucile back into reality. "What do you mean, temporary? If it even comes to that, we'll just bury Ma and Pa here."

She hated even having to talk about this so soon.

Silas took a deep breath, trying to choosing his words carefully.

"I understand how you feel, Lucile. But we need to be prepared. The doctors aren't hopeful, We can honor them properly and keep them close. "

"It makes no sense to move them to a cemetery when they can be laid to rest here!" Lucile protested, her voice trembling with emotion.

Silas rubbed his temples, trying to remain composed. "Lucile, you need to think ahead! My work isn't going to keep me here forever. I'm planning to move to New York, and once that's finalized, the land here will be sold."

" It will be easier to move when they are properly accommodated in a cemetery. "

Rage boiled over in Lucile. "You understand how I feel? I've been the one tending to Mother and Father since before they fell ill!

"I've bathed them, changed their sheets, fed them medicine and have been doing all the farm work myself! "

" And now this is how you tell me that after Ma and Pa's death, you'll sell off the land?"

"I'm the one paying for everything!" Silas finally shouted back. "The medicine and taxes all fall on me! The house is barely standing, and no one will want to purchase the land with a old property on it!"

"It's your fault you failed to marry someone to help with this burden. Instead, I'm saddled with the obligation to accommodate you! "

"All I've ever done is take care of our family, This is all I have Silas!"

"You don't have anything!" he shouted. "The land belongs to me! You're being hysterical. I can never talk to you because you're always like this. If you wanted to live here, you should've made something of yourself, like I did!"

Lucile was so angry she couldn't speak... the stress of this and all that was to come was just too much to take in right now.

Silas finally calmed at her silence.

"Now that we agree-"

"More tea?" Josephine's voice sounded from the parlor doorway, bringing their argument to a sudden halt.

Silas straightened up, his tone abruptly changing. "No, we were just finished. Clean this up, I'll be in my office." He rose from his seat, avoiding Lucile's eyes, and walked out of the room.

Once the slam of his office door could finally be heard Lucile took a deep breath, trying to steady herself as Josephine began tidying up the papers and teacups.

"I'm sorry..." Lucile murmured, her voice shaky.

" Don't be, we're here for you. "

Ghost

I really like this comic created by @ffuscous so I wrote this little blurb. Definitely shorter than my other little blurbs, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it. -Silas

[Steddie]

There are ghosts in Hawkins, Indiana.

Eddie drove down the road with Black Sabbath blaring from his speakers. Hellfire had gone well, but the kids were all on edge. He had seen it in the way that they would each drift during the session. Eddie sighed.

Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley had been missing for three months now. Eddie still roamed the streets trying to find them. Looking for the two and putting missing posters up everywhere. He’d gotten cornered by Jason Carver and his crew a couple of times, but Eddie wouldn’t stop looking, even if it left him vulnerable to his tormentors.

 His eyes widened as his headlights lit up a lone figure standing in the road. He pressed his foot to the brake, luckily stopping short a couple of feet. Eddie jumped out of his van and called out to the figure.

“Hey man, you ok? You need some help?”

Eddie’s brows furrowed as the stranger mumbled unintelligibly. Eddie’s doe eyes hardened as he took in the bloody Scoops uniform and disheveled caramel brown hair. 

“Steve?”

The figure turned still talking unintelligibly. Eddie flinched at the dead, cold gaze of Steve. This was not the Steve he knew.

“Steve, how can I help? Please, Steve,” Eddie pleaded, his heart racing.

Steve’s bloodied hand raised and pointed in the distance.

“NO, ROBIN, PLEASE! GOD, ROBIN, ROBIN! AGHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHH! PLEASE GOD! ROBIN PLEASE!”

Eddie flinched at the bloodcurdling screams blaring from his car and turned to it in horror. Eddie turned back quickly, hoping to get Steve into his van. Yet, Steve had vanished before he could turn back around. Something horrifying was happening and he would find Steve and Robin; even if he ended up dying in the process.

There are ghosts in Hawkins, Indiana.

“Just interested in…gin.”

“You’re an accessory to murder at best. Might be you’re a killer yourself. And mark my words, I’m going to prove it.”

“And the part where he purchased the tahini. Where on Earth does one buy tahini?”

“This may hurt a little.”

“But no, it’s not for me. I need coffee, and crumpets, and a good book, and for nothing exciting or interesting to happen to me for a very long time.”

     “How’s she holding up?” Silas asked, arms crossed over his chest from where he leaned his shoulder against a nearby post. He always grew restless whenever he was away from Bounty for two long; the companion an extension of his very self at this point. Nellie was the only person in Silver Creek that Silas trusted to look after her, however, and she happened to be the only reason that he hadn’t called in sooner. All of this business about Morgan Harrington eyeing up their town had most of it’s homesteaders keeping Silas busy with no end of work; if something were to go down, they all wanted to be ready and he couldn’t blame them. He too, would fight if it was necessary. “I brought you something” the corner of his lips turned up into a lopsided grin, a tanned hand raised as he presented a brown paper bag that Silas didn’t hesitate to hand over to his oldest friend. “For your trouble” Not that he thought Nellie minded having Bandit’s twin around to keep him company, of course, but more so because he knew that Bounty could be a handful at best. Still, he wouldn’t trade her for the world. “The best moonshine in town”

The Harrington family continues to function as normally as possible.

Gardening has slowed, having missed the crucial spring planting season while attending to the family's health. Silas, meanwhile, continues to dedicate long hours to his factory work.

Mr. Coombes, the factory overseer, is a stern taskmaster, his booming voice resonating throughout the factory whenever errors are made. Despite this, Silas feels increasingly at home and confident in the leadership role he has been entrusted with among his fellow workers.

[Steddie]

Steve didn’t know how he had gotten himself into this situation. The night had started normally. Eddie and Robin were staying over to watch some movies and hang out. 

“Dingus, I think Eddie is gonna burn your kitchen down.”

Steve turned to Robin with an unamused stare.

“Rob, I’m sure he can figure out how to use the microwave to make some popcorn. He’s not helpless.”

“Steve-o! How do I work this thing?”

“You were saying, Steve,” Robin questioned with a raised brow and a smirk pulling at her lips.

Steve fixed her with a glare before getting up and moving into the kitchen. He leaned in the doorway and watched with a bit of amusement building as he watched Eddie press random buttons on the microwave trying to figure out how it works. 

“Need help?”

Steve let out a chuckle as Eddie jumped and whipped around with wide eyes. Eddie narrowed his eyes at the younger boy before nodding his head with a sigh.

“Yeah, I need help,” Eddie mumbled with a slight pout.

Steve glided over to the microwave and made sure everything was properly in place. Eddie had managed that, but the buttons were what had stumped him. Steve began to hit the correct series of buttons and unconsciously trapping Eddie against his body and the counter. Steve grinned as the microwave began to whir in a mechanical countenance before he finally became aware of the position he was in. 

He glanced down at Eddie and took in the blush that coated Eddie’s face with a color almost comparable to the cherry red sweater Steve was currently wearing. Steve tilted his head to the side before a small grin made its way to his face. He let his wander to Eddie’s waist and grip it firmly. He felt his grin widen as Eddie’s hands rested in his hair and on his neck.

“Steve?”

“Eddie.”

“Want a kiss, gorgeous?”

Eddie grinned up at Steve with a sweet glint in his eyes.

“Do you even gotta ask, big boy?”

They both leaned in and felt their world shrink to just the two of them. Steve pushed into the kiss, finding the taste of stale cigarettes and runts (the candy) intoxicating. Eddie’s lips were plush and just slotted perfectly against his own. Steve nipped at Eddie’s bottom lip and slid his tongue in to clash against Eddie’s. Steve could kiss Eddie forever.

“Split.”

The two pulled apart with one more peck as they focused in on Robin standing there with an eyebrow raised and seasoning held in her fingers. 

“I would actually like some popcorn to go with my movie, thank you very much.”

Steve grabbed the bowl from the microwave and followed Robin as she moved back to the living room. He turned back and grabbed Eddie’s hand, planting a kiss against the cold metal of one of the rings. 

“Come on, Eds. We’ll finish this later.”

Eddie’s eyebrows shot up.

“You inviting me to your room, Stevie?”

Steve didn’t answer. Instead, he moved Eddie forward and planted a smack on his backside along with a kiss on the cheek. Steve sat down and smirked at the shock on Eddie’s nuclear-red face. Eddie moved to the couch after a minute or two sitting on the other side of Steve that Robin hadn’t claimed. He leaned over and nipped at Steve’s ear.

“You’re a dick, Harrington.”

“Yeah, but you like it.”

Eddie huffed, rolling his eyes before settling back into Steve’s side. Steve focused on the movie and held his two favorite people close with the promise of fun later.

He couldn’t think of anything better than this moment.
