“I’m sorry.” His words were out before she could argue. “I’m sorry - for everything.” He took another step closer to her, casting his eyes nervously around the room and stuffing his hands back into his pockets, before tilting his head up and considering the stars for a moment. “I got a new therapist. Started attending some veteran support groups.” He gave a rough chuckle as he followed a shooting star speeding across the sky above. “Turns out that futile and broken relationships are a common trend among people with repressed PTSD.” Lucy’s heart lurched in her chest and she started to reach for him, but he was still looking up at the sky, his fists twitching inside the leather of his jacket pockets. He was fizzing with nervous energy, his jaw working hard, and she pulled her hands away, clasping her own fingers together tightly to give him time. “I thought I had it together, y’know? Thought I had enough experience and distance from deployment to counsel people like Mitch, or Officer Barnes. Long enough a grown-up to be able to handle DV cases.” He shook his head, a look of self-disdain crossing his features. “I was completely blind to my own issues.” He looked down from the stars suddenly, catching her gaze, his eyes dark and unreadable in the dim light. “You could see right through me though. From that first time you stopped me leaving narcan in Isabel’s apartment, right up to that stupid lie-detector test. You’ve always known me better than I knew myself.” Without warning, the screen above them flickered, the stars quivering violently in place for a second before changing abruptly into a sinuous green and purple river of colour. The aurora borealis took the place of the constellations, and Lucy felt a shiver run down her spine as if the arctic air itself had settled in the room with them. “I didn’t recognise myself after the whole Ray Watkins thing. Lying to Grey and Commander West. Keeping you in the dark. Putting Tamara in danger.” He let out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes against the memories. The aurora sent shadows flickering across the angles of his face in shifting patterns. “All I ever wanted to do was keep you safe. Give you the best parts of myself. Become the man you seemed to see when you looked at me.”

Ummmmm evil jimmy au stuff.. The au takes place during the whole silverskull thing where he was meant to be used for scrap. The commander doesn’t come for him first and instead recoups the other Aquabats, but by they time they get to jimmy, it’s too late

He gets scrapped and sort of rebuilds himself with what he can in the junkyard, his memory gets all jumbled up, and he starts feeling a resentment towards the aquabats for forgetting him and he basically snaps and goes after them with the minimal memory he has left

Tim's been the Fierce Protector™️ his whole life. Of Genny (and mom?), of his squad, of his wife, of his rookies; He can't turn it off.

But... it hasn't been working.

He lost two soldiers to Ray. He lost Isabel to addiction. His attempt to protect Lucy actually PUT her - and Tamara - in danger. And this isn't even the first time he's done that!

Compound that with his cover-up to his military superiors and his lies to his LAPD superiors, and who even IS Tim Bradford anymore?? I don't want to be an apologist for his self-centered-ness, but I'm slowly working to see where he's coming from.

His protectiveness is telling him to send Lucy away so she's SAFE. For all the 'incredible' women that surround him, he's failing to see how Lucy is Worth. Fighting. FOR. Fighting AGAINST his own protective instincts.

If his love for her is blinding him to that (and we got those hints with the Teska case and the lie-detector test), then they need to address that to build a solid relationship. He's going about it ass-backwards (MEN) but it's all caught up to him now and hit him like a tonne of bricks.

Again: it's unfair that Lucy has to be the clear-headed one here. But she IS. We've seen her mature in her romantic relationships over the years to the point that she IS the sensible one. The one who sees they need to TALK.

We were insulted when Isabel and Tim had a giggle over Lucy's suggestion that Tim meditate after a fatal shooting. But! Of the three of them, who adjusted best to life after trauma? Ms I-Survived-That-Chen! That's who. 🏆

They're going to work this out. They're going to survive. Writers don't build seasons of subtle and complex moments and toss it all away on a whim. Chenford are the most important people in each other's lives.

They're going to get through this. ❤️‍🩹
