It's time forrrrr weekly fic recs! These are my top 3 (to me) fics by some of my favorite authors, but please check their AO3/masterlists because they have so many amazing things to read and sometimes what I love most isn't what you might love most!

This week is transmasc Steve truther, Sleep Token cult leader, @steves-strapcollection/@gerrystamour! Gerry is probably singlehandedly responsible for the transmasculine Steve Harrington tag on AO3 and I couldn't be prouder of his hard work. He also is responsible for the creation of quite possibly the hottest OC to ever exist: our boyfriend, Tig (more below). Cannot put into words how special Ger is to me and this fandom as a whole. here i have found some peace of mind Rated E | 60,434 words I can't put into words how incredible this is. The moment Ger announced this fic, I was hooked like a damn fish. It's his pride and joy, his magnum opus, his gift to the world. One of many favorite lines: “Steve, you just sucked my soul out of my cock , don’t be fucking modest,” Eddie laughed, lifting his hands to dig the heels of his palms into his eyes. “We didn’t even make it to my bunk, Steve. I had everything set up, then you came in here and got on your knees like the perfect wet dream you are, and you’re gonna act like you don’t know exactly how good you are?”

i could be honest, i could be human Rated E | 48,581 words This fic. HOOOOOO BOY. This fic has it all. It has the angst, it has the soft boys, it has the idiots, it has the gentle tender nasty fuckin'. And its follow up properly introduces TIG. i can't tell where you end and where i start is the first time I read anything so focused on an OC, especially when it's Steve and an OC. Tig is built different. He is and always will be our boyfriend. And let me just say, for the record, he is even hotter than this fic gives him credit for. He's been even MORE developed since and god help us all. Favorite thing: Just the fact that we've been given an OC that is so incredible. He's inspired people to do more with OCs and I think it's great. Tig is my hero, and Ger is my hero for making him THE hottest fictional man to ever exist.

you're in the walls that i made with crosses and flames Rated E | 7,659 words This was a birthday fic for @legitcookie (who will be featured on a rec soon!) and I would venture to say it may be one of the most romantic tender fuckin' scenes I've read to date. Ger sent me the scene from Atonement and I...changed as a human. Favorite lines: “Stevie,” Eddie breathed, the corners of his mouth ticking upward in something close to a smile, even as the next fluttering blink had the tears barely clinging to his lashes falling down his cheeks.

And Steve was helpless, staring up at the beautiful man in his arms, and he had to blink his own tears away as they blurred his vision. “Eds,” he said, not even bothering to hide just how awed and overwhelmed he was to have Eddie like this again. Steve made a promise to himself that he would make up for every single day he made this man feel unwanted, unworthy, unloved.

hi sry this is a lil long but i just felt like giving my own comments about ur post re: feeling left out/regarding more detailed work, and wanted to say that your work singlehandedly has inspired me SO much to the point that because of your more simplistic coloring/shading and focus on movement/body language, i was finally able to find a coloring/rendering style that i actually like aesthecially and enjoy doing! i've struggled w replicating color in a way i like digitally for over 6 years but your work, and especially so your sketchbook scans on patreon have been so useful for inspiration and for my own understanding of anatomy and what not. we're always our own worst critics with comparison and whatnot, but please know that your work and your style are a huge accomplishment and skill in their own right, and your comics inspire me to keep studying so i can one day make my own!!! i'm so thankful you share your work with us and to have come across it and be able to draw inspiration off it! your colors, expressions, and the palpable intimacy and dynamic character interactions are so amazing and specifically unique to your work, never doubt the impact it has just because of other's having a different style or approach or something <3

This is so extremely nice I don't even know what to say!!! I honestly feel so hyped that my style inspired someone else, I feel like it's not something I expected and its SO COOL. I sometimes feel like my style isn't particularly STYLISH you know, I often admire really strong punchy styles, so it's nice to hear my own kind of chiller style is inspiring! And that the things I enjoy come across as strengths, too! Also I am so happy to hear someone enjoys my sketchbooks haha, they're really precious to me but I also try not to be too fussy about my art in them which means it's not 'beautiful'*- they're for studying and/or chilling out, so it's SO nice that it's inspiring nonetheless! Wishing you the best in your art journey and also I think if you want to make comics you should just give it a go! Make teeny tiny comics! [it does not have to be good] [tangent oh my god] I feel very hypocritical because for the longest time comics were something my friends made and I didn't know how to, and I felt like my style didn't work for comics, but honestly when I eventually sat down and started a long comic the style happened out of necessity, I Had to simplify or I wouldn't be able to keep up. And you can see from the links that I just did sketchy comics before and that was fine! I think it was just as valuable as making polished pages. I actually probably ended up making comics For Real because I made a silly fandom ask blog, where I kept wanting to say more than I could do in one image, and that gave me the confidence to try something longer with OC's.

On a cold night in Hoelbrak, Hazel accompanied Willow’s quest to find more stray cats, because the ten that already roamed the Grove were obviously not enough. During their journey, they found a cave beneath a waterfall. Venturing into the cave, they found two humans, one scared shitless, and the other taking a nap.

The awake human introduced herself as Sophie, and her unconscious companion as Ben. They somehow ended up in the alcove after something called a “cruise ship" crashed into it. As Hazel asked Sophie a million questions about what a cruise ship was and how it worked, Willow left to continue her search for a cat. She found what she was looking for out in the forest: a small, gray tabby.  But when Willow attempted to coax the “cat" her way, a wormhole opened up and the cat jumped through.

The “cat" was not a cat at all, but an ageless interdimensional being. He grew tired of roaming Tyria and sought a different land to explore: one he visited before. He crept from under his minion, Peter's, bed.

“There you are!” The man with a missing eye cooed as he spotted the furry critter. “I've been looking all over for you, Mittens!”

Mittens quickly gathered why Peter was eager to find him, and why Sarah was staying with her former abuser. She originally intended to simply visit him, see how he was recovering from the Easter Incident. Then a huge blizzard hit Ohio and they all got stuck inside.

Just great, more cold.

Meanwhile in Detroit, another ill-tempered group was snowed in: not in a rickety farmhouse, but an elaborate mansion.

“Norman was supposed to be back with firewood half an hour ago,” Officer Wong grumbled through chattering teeth.

“Well, you know how traffic around here is on a good day,” Steve countered.

“I knew we should've found a better way to dispose of the bodies,” Isabelle whined. “I don't think Kenny or Manny would burn all that well, but it'd at least be something!”

Just as Manny's name left Isabelle's mouth, five bolts of lightning struck the mansion at once, killing everyone inside and leaving Norman, who was waiting in line at Whole Foods the entire time, homeless.

Many years later, paranormal enthusiasts Aaron, Joshua, and Selena were investigating the burnt remnants of the Murder Mansion. They needed to do something to unwind – especially Selena, who had to singlehandedly kick Azrael and Melani's monster asses.

As Aaron entered the remains of what he guessed was the living room, a loud crackling boom echoed right behind him

To Aaron's surprise, Selena was not fighting more monsters behind him. He'd never seen the two people standing behind him in his life. One was an older man with reddish-brown hair and scars around his eye. The other was a microscopic little guy dressed in black denim with bandaged hands.

“Well shit, this isn't the void,” Mark noted.

“See, I told you that wouldn't work,” he chided the kinda sorta saint.

With another boom, the two soft grunge boys vanished.

A few months later, Cain was down a Wikipedia rabbit hole. He was researching the case of the Vanishing Duo while he had Llywelyn's laptop precariously perched on the side of the bathtub.

Just as he was about to see if anyone else was talking about the case on MySpace. Llywelyn was thrown through the bathroom window by the Fisherman, who was still salty about him taunting the dumbness of trying to waterboard a fish. Jumping from sheer shock, Cain dropped the laptop into the bathtub, which started an electrical fire that blew up the whole house.

Years later, YouTuber Elijah Hardy made a video about the Exploding Fish Boy Incident, which got him cancelled on Twitter for the fifth time in a row. His sixth cancellation, however, was the one that finally stuck. It was cause by him making his first True Crime Video – covering the case of Roderick, Kevin, Sam, Jeremy, and Rachel mere hours after it went down. The Red Dragon Productions crew – Leah, Joshua, and Isaac – also got cancelled for defending Elijah. They didn't know about the plot of “pull your hands away!” by missr3n3 yet. Madeline also got cancelled for defending RDP.

This feud drew Cairyx's attention to Twitter. He figured out he could get into people's houses through their Twitter accounts, told all of his electric spider alien buddies about this, and they all banded together to murder every Twitter user.

This basically caused an apocalypse, with only a few people who didn't have Twitter accounts surviving. One was Jessie Simmons, who never made a social media profile beyond her Facebook. This same strategy is what saved Ida and Proto. Arthur was too young to be allowed on the internet unsupervised. Wes exclusively used Pinterest. Brandon's abusive parents wouldn't let him go on the internet period, lest he figure out they were also involved in the Peace Cult. And the incredibly lucky Dr. North deleted her account a week before the world ended.

As I reach my nearly two-year anniversary of this blog, which will be on February the 28th for any who are curious, I thought it would be appropriate to share a list of blog recommendations. Whether it simply be blogs I am enjoy currently, in the past, or anything else of the like, all deserve even more recognition, believe me.

@egcdeath -- By the gods, words cannot describe how absolutely awestruck I am by your work. The way you articulate emotion and action and just- everything? It's a work of art. I fell in love with your 'Love In Bloom' work months ago, and finding you again with your Soccer Parents series makes me ecstatic. I'm always left rereading and hungry for more of your work because it's just that good.

@robynlilyblack -- My absolute favorite Harry Potter writer I've ever read from. You have singlehandedly made me fall for characters I never would have thought about falling for. The emotion you put into your work leaves me weak at the knees sometimes, and the angst, oh boy, does it hurt when I read it. And there's so much comedy in your works, at times I find myself giggling whilst staring at my screen.

@quirkfics -- You write for some of the most underrated characters and I'm so happy that you do just that. I have, many a times, scoured the internet for works relating to specific characters that, unfortunately, almost nobody writes for. And then there's you! I cannot tell you how many hours I've poured into reading and re-reading your works because, truthfully, it's a little embarrassing.

@tired-teacher-blog -- My favorite Aizawa blog bar none. The way you write is, truly, mesmerizing. Every time I read something from you I'm always left in awe, whether that me with a grin or a flustered face or anything else of the like. You are doing the work of the gods.

@simpliao -- One of my favorite jschlatt authors on this website. Everything you write is adorable and fills me with warmth every time I have the blessing of reading through your blog. Everything you do is stunning and I am in love.

@jschqtt -- Another stunningly amazing jschlatt author, though I do love your other works with all the same adoration. Your works are so adorable and I cannot stress how seen I feel with some of your works. The prompts you write from just hit so close to home and the emotion behind them make them all the better.

@slxthxrxn-sxmp -- I initially found you from your Jurassic Park works and by the gods I fell in love with your writing so quickly. Just- every word I see on my screen when I read through your blog is captivating. I truly need to read through all of your works some time because I know how beyond worth it it will be.

@jschllatt -- My favorite jschlatt author on tumblr, easily. Though your blog is/has been, for the time being, inactive, I hope you know how much you, both as an author and as a friend, have impacted me. I still strive to write as amazingly as you do, though I reckon I have quite a bit of work to do before I create such art. You singlehandedly made me fall for more people than I can count by your work and I hate you for it. /j

@dreamwvrld -- The best author I've ever had the chance of reading from. And I mean that in all facets. You have been my idol ever since I started reading from you. The way you create such vivid scenes and the emotions you give the characters in your work leaves me at my knees. I still aspire to be like you, and even though you have left the fanfiction community, as I've told you, I can't wait to see and support you and your future endeavors. You have a fan for life here.

Writing, especially for a niche group as fanfiction writing is, is difficult and at times grueling work. The prospect of creating something designed specifically for a group of people to enjoy can be filling, but it is important to note the time and effort that goes into such work.

I'm apart of such a wide variety of fandoms and seeing so many people create content for them, spilling their thoughts onto a screen- it's beautiful. I'm sure many authors have seen me ramble in adoration about their works before, but it's important (at least in my eyes) to yell to the world 'look at this person and their amazing work!' from time to time.

To every author on this list (and to those who aren't yet), even if you're not currently or no longer active, even if you're only written a small number of works, even if you don't think your work is good (stop that, it is good and so much more), I, as well as the community(ies) you're apart of, adore you. <3

2- my three favorite characters and why I love them so much

You cant make me do this. This is so incriminating dear fucking lord

I really like I have a lot more favorites than this I promise I appreciate the good hardworking men and elves that don't kill people. But my top three are Sauron, Melkor, and Fëanor, with Túrin and Maedhros tied in fourth.

The reason that I love Melkor first of all is that Tolkien is a Catholic and I feel the need to sympathize with the fantasy devil because his original intentions were extremely relatable and I think he was right to rebel against them, and the reason most of the things turned out the way they did was directly because God Wanted Them That Way. And just as much so, I love seeing him go down that path of destruction and slowly lose more and more of himself to his hunger, anger, and pain. He's also just a fucking pathetic loser and I like to make fun of him.

Liking Sauron obviously goes hand in hand with Melkor, but I must place him in the #1 spot because there is much more material to work from about him. What is compelling about him is not only in the beautiful handcrafted bdsm servant/master relationship he has going on, but the descent of how he slowly becomes Melkor as the ages go on. I could obviously go on about this at length, but in short, seeing the way in which he grieves is endlessly terrifying. He's got everything. He's a tumblr sexyman. He's a furry. He's allergic to women. He's a cult leader. He's a weeping widower. He lost a fight to a dog.

As for Fëanor, he's just a deeply complex and deeply flawed character. The word that always comes to mind with him is catalyst. He is the reason the events of the Silmarillion occcur. He is an anomaly, so horrifically overpowered and overproductive he singlehandedly started a fucking world war. And yet despite the immensity of his hubris you cannot say that the results of his choices have not had profoundly positive impacts on the world. It is unimaginable to see what the landscape would looklike without him. He is insane. He BURSTS INTO FLAMES AND DIES

Little blurbs for Maedhros and Túrin too , just cause I really do care for them. Everyone loves Maedhros, so I can just gesture to the rest of the fandom for that, but there's so little Túrin love. It's very easy to explain why I like him. It's because he's literally Hamlet. Túrin is Hamlet. I'm so sorry.

5- the scene from it that lives in my head rent free

Obviously we all love the dramatic mythical History Moments but I must highlight two of the most stupid ass fucking scenes I will never get over.

Sauron sending out a comedically large number of increasingly ferocious werewolves to fight Luthien's bitch ass dog and then eventually revealing his hot werewolf form only to be immediately curbstomped and made to listen to the most soulcrushing diss track in the world about his relationship with Melkor

Melkor showing up 20 feet tall to Fëanor's doorstep ready to give his extensive presentation on, to summarize, "can i try rizzing you up. pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease", only to be insulted and have the door slammed in his face

6- which is my favorite platonic or familial relationship in this world

Perfect question for the Silmarillion because fucking everyone is related even the people who are married to each other. But seriously the importance of familial relationships in this thang is immense

I believe it would have to be the relationships between the sons of Fëanor, especially Maedhros and Maglor, the power duo of kinslaying bros. The relationship between them and their father as well as between Maedhros, Maglor, and Elrond + Elros is honestly just as important to me. These are evidently a fandom favorite. It's so fucking heartbreaking I can't do it I love doomed siblings so fucking much my fucking god. And the parenting and the generational trauma and the fatal flaws and AAAARGH.

17- the worldbuilding aspect of the story I have greatest admiration for.

You can't not have admiration for the sheer fucking scale of Tolkien's goddamn world. Not just the quantity of it, but in the attention to detail, the decades of work gone unpublished until after his death, the purposeful folkloric and language resources he uses to create it. I don't need to say more about this it's quite evident.

Just wanted to say thanks for your thoughts on the fandom for Astarion ❤️ It's really enlightening to get another perspective as someone really new(I'm not yet out of Act 1, and this is my first time playing a DnD game). I noticed this weird thing where people in his fandom specifically are bashing people for Ascending him. I don't know too much since I've been avoiding spoilers but I think *every* character is complicated. As excited as I am to be focused on romancing Astarion this route- I'm just as curious and excited about the other companions. Just makes me sad to see how divided the fandom seems to be.

Again, I'm not focusing on the other quest lines yet cause I'm so early, but I do wonder if there's a divisive moment in any of their storylines like Astarion's, and if there's just as much outrage about it. Ultimately I don't think there's a wrong or right way to play the game- part of the joy is seeing the way different choices change these characters we've come to know and love, and how they react to the circumstances and adapt.

...Also, unrelated, but you've singlehandedly gotten me into human kink and male drow specifically. Didn't think that was possible but your scenarios are...absolutely peak. Thank you for the food, and for dragging me more into DnD lore seperate from bg3! You're a gem! ❤️

And yes I remember the ascended bashing incidents- those twitter threads were so long my god. The other companions do have something similar! I won't spoil anything but you will start noticing the patterns and shared themes in their storylines with each other.

But no, there isn't really any outrage around the other companions ultimatum moments, just Astarion. He is the star of the show in the fandom.

And it makes me really happy knowing i successfully infected someone with my human kink and drow propaganda <333 they live in my brain rent free, the world needs to hear about my theories on how the humans are clearly the most fuckable speices in dnd, in this essay I will-

It really boils down to humans being the most adaptable honestly, at their core every other speices is in some way or form, exclusive and closed off. Being friendly by nature and seeking out others, having strong bond with non-human creatures has always a huge part of humanity.

And I think that's lovely, also how we are the weakest in dnd, it's hilarious since we are fucking up every genepool we charm our way into.

Words mean a lot to me than i can describe, and hearing from someone else about how they like something i made is better than a million likes and reblogs. I'm not an actor and for me it's impressive! next let's talk about vice versa bts. one of the most anticipated scenes in fandom (THE nomnom scene) exited everyone from the trailer. and you know what? jimmy improvised it. in the script puen should just feed talay. if it wasn't enough for you when episode aired it turned out that sea played along and improvised talay nomnoming puen's face in return! good for you? i have more! one of yours (and mine) most favourite moments from the horny puen: pillow scene? did you know that in the script puen only had to hug the pillow? the horny puen was all jimmy's creation actually. yep, live with this information. personally i adore this fact and want to pat him on his head for that. let's also talk about cheesy puen. the scene in ep 12 when puen wears talay's glasses and talay feeds him? yes that was jimmy again. isn't he so precious? mmm what else... episode 10 i think? when up and aou sleep and puen wears his llama hat and says 'should i wer it like this?)' jimmy (agaaaaain) thought it'll be nice to make a parallel to the scene from episode one and sea played along and straightened his hat. as you can see the most iconic scenes in the series are jimmy's creations and i love him for that so much. in kazz interview jim also said that he improvised really a lot but the most scenes wasn't included in the end. what else his cool mind could have thought up is anyone's guess. hope this helps :) *bites off wet cookie and sips tea*

last night was a blast! read through the last legs of act 5 oart 2 and started plowing through everything so now im... somewhere after act 6 intermission 1. as usual some thoughts :

-EVERYONE WENT GOD MODE??

okay okay so. the plan is,

1) john to retrieve the tumor which would blow up the sun

2) so dave would pilot the course and sent it to the green sun and blow it up. this is the plan rose cooked up after consulted doc scratch and the horrorterrors. wait why would they do that? If they want to kill jack they could just use the scratch right?

4) oh wait i remember. The scratch is to reset the universe. The tumor is to act as a homing beacon for the kids to meet up and plan whats next. also jack was kind of omnipotent so the scratch might not even be enough.

5) meanwhile the tumor was prepared, the scratch, found in dave's lava planet, is meant to be scratched by either john or dave using rose's knitting needles

6) meanwhile jade is doing genesis frog breeding, and she consulted with her denizen after a discussion with kanaya. and she found out something that could have been a reason why their universe is so messed up. jade was also given a tip from her denizen echidna of a way to leave the scratched universe and stay alive, but on the condition that her and her planets are brought along.

7) after this is revealed, karkat wails in regret after realizing that he unknowingly gave cancer to the universe. gamzee who have somehow become corrupted claims that it was his doing that sabotaged karkat and kanaya's frog breeding to a dave in the past

8) while jade is juggling the responsibility of trying to do frog breeding even as the end of the world is approaching + trying to save the denizens and their people + keeping bec noir under control, she gets murdered by one of the exiles john sent to give the tumor over a misunderstanding

9) while all of that is happening, the great terezi and vriska showdown happens, and karkat singlehandedly pacified a rampaging gamzee by pats and kisses like its an episode of gumball and darwin. they are now moirails that are off the rails. a knocked out sollux is too busy talking with aradia over the dream bubbles. because a gemini's special Like That™ (GEMINIS REPRESENT)

10) current surviving troll count : terezi, karkat, gamzee, kanaya, sollux, aradia. sollux dies to pilot their hideout to the green sun so theyd get a head start to go to the new session

11) anyway, back to the beta kids. jade is dying. an angry bec noir flies her over so she could die in her quest bed. using the time capsule, an angry bec traveled to the exile's future timeline and killed everyone. he also uses his omnipotence as a first guardian to spread the cancer on the universe, the red miles, causing its destruction. he donuted my boy WV. and so to avenge everyone and defend herself, PM becomes the new white queen and she gets bec noir's powers too.

12) while jade is taking her time dying from the stab wound, the derse kids got the tumor and is trying to pilot it to the green sun on a suicide mission. dave was supposed to do it, but rose knocked him out so she could do it alone. yet he still followed her, and they both end up on the same ship and found their quest bed, and the realization of their imminent death finally sinks in.

13) as the universe is imploding on itself, they found out a strange machine. The machine shows two universes, the left out remains of alternia and earth. apparently it all has been a trick all along from doc scratch. The tumor, piloted to a course between universes because its heading to the green sun, caused the destruction of the two universes and subsequently, the death of rose and dave. But it does not destroy the sun. So, the trolls arrived at a not exploding sun, and both the derse kids went god tier.

14) meanwhile, before dave and rose's epic showdown, jade went god mode too, fuses with her sprite, and found out a way to escape the doomed universe to the new session. her new powers of omnipotence made her capable of saving all of the planets and its denizens and brought them along with her on the ride to the new session. she brought john along as well, after he fully completes the scratch

15) so. the gang, they finally met up. sort of. theyre heading to the new session and it would took them three years to arrive. dead sollux decides to go back to his dead friends in the dream bubble. aradia, as the maid of time, has some shit to do so she had to leave as well. wv is dying but there might be a way to save him (THANK GOD) rose and kanaya continued making heart eyes at each other but this time its even worse since they do it in person. karkat suffers out of his own hubris and wishes he was dead.

16) with the universe reset and destroyed, it brings the arrival of lord english from doc scratch's corpse. so, there is no guarantee this new universe is safe since a demon presides in it. The gang plans to arrive in the new session and defeat lord english in person.

Is that it? Is that all? There was a lot of information and it was pretty hard to follow. If im not distracted by the art im distracted by the music. For real the music is very very good. Its crazy that homestuck starts out from silly chiptune music and evolves into epic bangers like cascade. And the art, my god. they all look so anime. the faces are beautifully expressive. i love how everyone's clothes design gets an upgrade and even more details in that style. its appropriate for the gravity of the situation. also shout out for the backgrounds. i always loved the hyperrealistic images but the strategic lighting on this one is great.

and i understand why the fandom are insane about them. like, my current type nowadays is old and weird looking guys but i just knew teen me would have realized he's bisexual much earlier if she sees anime karkat and kanaya's cascade design at the tender age of thirteen.

-ANYWAY. Holy fucking shit! can we talk about jade? I dont care. WE'LL TALK ABOUT JADE. i knew she had the potential man. i knew it. she literally kickstarted the rescue mission of the citizens and save john and helped diagnose the problem of their universe and- SHE'S AWESOME. SHE'S THE BEST!!! she's so op and amazing and im taking her to those super expensive haagen daz ice cream because she's powerful and she cares about the citizens on the planets just as she cares for her friends and she stays positive despite the trolls badgering. i hope she had a great three years befriending everyone and catching up on stuff with davesprite and john :) she's the coolest

-also, wow. must have been weird being davesprite. you spent three months with your half sister trying to do the impossible, went back in time to see everything kickstarted to fruition while you get sidelined after doing the epic duel of all time with your brother against an omnipotent assasin. you saw him die, and then youre just kinda there chilling and giving tips for alpha dave and occasionally consoling jadesprite. and then she disappears, and you see her save everyone's ass while youre just sitting there and now you didnt get to die. you are going to spend three years becoming well acquainted to approximately a million people + jade and john. also your alt self went god mode but somehow you didnt fuse with him.

-and speaking of doc scratch. jeez. the reveal that the virus from the troll pov chapters is the one that bring lord english in is fuckin insane. we already know he and his lackey doc scratch was subtly manipulating all of the trolls from either direct manipulation of subconcious dream fuckuppery. the reveal that a karkat suffers gag was actually a doc scratch plot and the transformation of his dead body. FUCK.

6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?

Oh, God. Um. Most of the popular ones, if I'm being honest. There are a bunch of different ways I could answer this, from "it's everywhere" to "people misunderstand this canon dynamic" to "people make disgusting bigoted comments toward another, '''in the way''' character" to "most destructively moralistic" so I'll talk about the fanbase that historically has encompassed all of these, which is. The J*hnlockers.

I don't think I can EVER explain how utterly unhinged (derogatory) this fandom was when the show was airing. People straight-up labeling their analyses as a "conspiracy," convincing others that there was a Super Secret Actual Finale Episode that would "fix" their ship not being canon. They paired the main villain up with a character who didn't even exist in canon because doing anything involving the women was, presumably, too much to ask. The absolutely horrendous things they would say about the female characters, ESPECIALLY to fans of them who were minding their own business. (Also, they called one of the gay co-creators "actually a straight man" for not canonizing this ship which is completely and utterly WILD to me.) Genuinely there was NO space more unsafe fandom-wise that I have EVER been in. I cosplayed Irene for a con one time and, though luckily nothing happened, I was AFRAID FOR MY LIFE THE WHOLE TIME. Like. The level of vitriol and misogyny and biphobia (I'm not even going to get into that one) was UNREAL. To the point where genuinely I hope we never get new content of any kind so I don't have to think about people who act like this ever again.

7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

...........at the risk of getting murdered. MCU Steve. He was just kind of. There. To me. I didn't particularly care about him because he read to me as "generic good guy" which isn't an archetype that particularly resonates with me, but...then the fandom just. My God. Saying that EVERYTHING he ever did was right, that NO ONE had any points when they questioned him, that he EPITOMIZED goodness in a way no other character did ever, that anyone who liked Tony (or anyone who was ever perceived as being in Steve's "way" about anything, don't get me started on how people treated Sharon) was A War Criminal Apologist Irl and was Singlehandedly Upholding Every Type of Oppression, like it was. SO annoying. I went from indifference to borderline-hatred out of spite.

8. Common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

I love her, too, but this creation of her into some sort of suave or cool monarch lady genuinely baffles me. But then again, this play was my Capstone Research Project my final year of college and I wrote a 50-page paper on it, so maybe I'm a little too invested in how people present her, lmao.)

10. Worst part of fanon

Tbh, everyone who insists that two characters [usually (cis, white, abled) men] MUST be in romantic love because they care about each other. Like...don't get me wrong, I love looking at a LOT of non-canon pairings through a romantic lens because It's Neat™, but showing physical affection or willing to throw down/break the law for someone or calling them things like "admirable" or "amazing" are not? Inherently romantic?? Like by so many people's standards I'd be in romantic love with all my platonic friends, I guess, and that's very annoying. Romance isn't the only kind of love that exists!!! Nor is it the only important or significant one!!!

(On a more specific note, there's a fairly pervasive idea that Aki/Himeno is...a grooming relationship? When according to the established timeline and personal events that would. Literally be impossible. People take the "I'm not old enough to smoke" line that happens not long after they meet as some sort of confirmation that Aki was, like, fifteen or sixteen at the time? Or something? Instead of like. Nineteen. Dude has to have time in the three years he's known her to change significantly in appearance, become old enough to smoke (the legal age for that is 20 over there btw), and develop a substance dependence. And given the visual markers of Himeno's appearance when the two of them meet and how drastically her appearance changes in the intervening years, she can't be more than a couple of years older than him? People also take a comment that's meant to convey that he's been at his job three years longer than another character as saying that he's only three years older age-wise than said character. Which, again, given the timeline. Would be impossible. And also. There is an example of grooming in this story! It's really important to the plot actually! It's meant to be seen as horrifying! You would assume that the fact that this relationship is not presented in the same way means something! Don't get me wrong, Himeno's done her fair share of shitty things, but grooming her fight partner was not one of them. There are plenty of reasons this ship isn't for everyone, you don't have to make shit up, lmao.)

13. Worst blorbo-ification

Genuinely I cannot choose between these two, so we're gonna make this post even longer.

Why do people like K*lo R*n. I don't understand. He was given the barest hint of sort-of, hazy tragic "backstory" and people...very much disagreed with me when I said I didn't think that was enough from a narrative standpoint to actually mean anything. And that's not taking into account that this blorbo-ification happened before we even knew that. When all we knew was that he felt kind of lost sometimes and killed his dad while helping head up a fascist empire, people went wild, and not in a "I like villains" kind of way. In a "he's MEANT to be read as mentally ill" kind of way (my God, please stop saying this about every character who is mean and exhibits one emotion) and "his parents MUST have been abusive to him" kind of way. Neither of those things. Has any basis in canon. Just. Just admit you like a character who's not a good person. And that you like a ship that's a dark romance. You won't explode, I promise.

The other one is Light. People want him to be a tragic anti-hero SO bad, I am incredibly tired. He went from zero to beyond 100 in the space of a couple of in-story hours. He's not some misguided utopian visionary, he's a hypocrite with a god complex. I have met too many people like this irl to get behind any positive or sympathetic interpretation of this character. (And don't get me wrong. I think in order to most effectively present the Themes™ of the work as a whole, he had to be written like this. I don't begrudge the creator (in this instance, anyway), I begrudge the fanbase. There's actually a lot I could say about this piece of media and general reaction to it, but my God this is already long enough.)

how did u get into them?

by watching the games, honestly. LOL. i always enjoyed their relationship on the field (eli threw more touchdowns to odell than anyone else in his sixteen year career, which is an insane fact considering they only played together for like....five of those years) and as a giants fan obviously i was like “YES I WANT FIVE MORE OF THOSE LITTLE BLONDE BITCHES” because it was so, so fun to watch them.

but what drove me to shipping them romantically was a moment i first caught after the giants/dolphins game in 2015. the giants won (something they RARELY do, especially during the O years) and like always, at the end of the broadcast, the camera kind of meanders around the field to catch some post-game shots. and i saw eli and odell huddled real close together. i couldn’t figure out what they were doing but i knew it was kind of sus u know. upon further investigation (aka me desperately searching youtube for game footage) i found it.

how do you write a ship when no one else is - like what motivates u?

honestly i would say it was hard but tbh? it wasn’t hard at all. when you love a pairing enough and you SEE what they are enough, it’s easy to write because it’s all you think about. you know? i had a good little mini-circle around me about them which helped me generate the ideas, and i have always craved attention and validation so of course i was gonna post it to ao3 even if no one else cared. i wrote SO much more than the yyverse content up there, too, but i was terribly afraid of the way i’d put eli/odell on the filters section singlehandedly so i stopped lol. it all went to my e/o fic library archive on here (@eoverse).

it also made it so much better when people who DIDN’T care about them suddenly did because of my fics?? which was SUCH motivation, too. being the one to open someone’s eyes like that is a special privilege imo. it’s power but in like...a tender kind of way. like holding someone’s hand and bringing them into the light. i was so addicted to that feeling.

how do u feel about them now??

oh, they devastate me. for a while i was so mad at odell after he got traded because it felt like he left me (and eli, ESPECIALLY, considering the fact that eli didn’t even know he got traded until ESPN announced it like he rest of us. dave gettleman i am in your fucking walls) and it kind of ended on a sour note. they didn’t talk to each other for a while. they never won anything substantial together which just felt like a deeper knife to the gut.

and then i moved on. and discovered that eli is actually rearranging the guts of the quarterback who replaced him after retirement (the elidj agenda is real and insane and you should not ask me about it because i have written, if possible, MORE about them than i did e/o) and for a while, kind of forgot. but my love for eli/odell never really faded, i don’t think. it’s nostalgia. i miss when odell was young. i miss when eli played. i miss how they hugged every pre-game, i miss how they would bump helmets tenderly after every touchdown, i miss the weird little sus quotes like “take me home, 10″ because who says that. who.

and now with odell potentially interested in coming back to the giants after all these years i’m like....this is going to be like tearing open an old wound, huh. they were my whole heart for so long. they are my BABIES. they are the first fics i wrote that truly, truly meant something real to me. so i think i still love them. not the same way, of course, but like...is it ever the same after a tragedy like they had?

my most recently watched show on this list, and my GOD am I insane about it!! this soft little jbl fills me with so much emotion I start vibrating at incredibly high frequencies if I think about it too much <3 this is one of the only shows I've ever given an actual 10/10 ranking - I don't think there's anything about it that would've been better different. I love it and absolutely recommend it to everyone but also - it's sad! so watch out!

Kamisama no Ekohiiki

jbl number two!! what can I say, your girl loves soft dramatic little guys :) kamisama no ekohiiki is truly a ql in the sense that it can't really be classified as a bl, but it's definitely super queer. it's so interesting and uses the trope of body switching (one I usually really dislike) SO well - it also has one of my fave girlies of all time, torii rin <3 this one too I think is a full 10/10, there's nothing I would change about it and I highly recommend!!

oh man. predictable as always huh. well what can I say, I am a complicated tragic realism enjoyer first and foremost, and no one does it like palmnueng!! guys of alllll time, I think about them constantly, they deserve the world. also, we need more mafia and bodyguard bls okay, the 'I would die for you (literally)' is soooo delicious. that said, nlmg for sure has its flaws, so I don't think I'd give it a full ten stars, but it's so incredibly good and its flaws only make it more endearing to me 😌 who up thinking about soft silly angsty little gayboys.........

last but definitely in no way least, the show of all time!! eclipse holds a super special place in my heart and not just because firstkhao are in it - it's such a beautiful show with some really interesting and three dimensional characters. it's so good it singlehandedly got me back into fic writing so. you get what I mean. the eclipse has its ups (like, most of it) and downs (a few things here and there), but overall scores a really high score on my list! if nothing else the yearning is just. absolutely delicious no notes

hi! I just wanted to let you know I accidentally stumbled upon 3 years later, and it was seriously one of the best things I’ve ever read! It made my day, and singlehandedly pulled me out of my reading slump, and now I’m rereading the pjo books. So thanks for that, really! I mean the concept as a whole, the mystery of what exactly happened, the Hawaiian pantheon, all of it! I love how it was a realistic version of what the “Percy being betrayed” trope could look like, and also, the Hermes and Percy duo is so underrated so I loved to see it.

I also scrolled through your blog and I’ve never read acotar (it’s been on my list tho as it’s been recommended by friends) and now I know that when I read it I’m gonna be going in heavily pro-tamlin thanks to my time on your blog lol

hi, anon! this is so sweet of you!! i haven't updated three years later in a while, as you've probably noticed, but that story was one of my favorites from when i first started writing fanfic. especially in big fandoms like pjo, i love taking stereotypically fanfic tropes and fleshing them out, making them work more naturally in a story, which is what three years later was intended to be.

after riordan introduced the other pantheons in canon, i wanted to use the hawaiian pantheon in a story as well. hermes and percy's dynamic in pjo was one of my favorite mortal-god dynamics that came from canon! i adore writing them in any of my stories.
