Day 14: Embarrass

A moment in which a young viera with too much curiosity causes their mother, sisters, and village members unending amounts of stress. Someone Everyone wasn't paying attention and the baby wandered into the jungle. Thankfully....dad was there to bring them back.

While at school Damian overhears his peers talking how a company created a new AI companion that is actually really cool and doesn’t sound like a freaky terminator robot when you speak to it.

And since Damian is constantly being told by Dick to socialize with people his age. He figured this would be a good way to work on social skills if not, then it’d be a great opportunity to investigate a rivaling company to Wayne Enterprises is able to create such advanced AI.

The AI is able to work as companion that can do tasks that range from being a digital assistant or just a person that you can have a conversation with.

The company says that the AI companion might still have glitches, so they encourage everybody to report it so that they will fix it as soon as possible.

The AI companion even has an avatar and a name.

A teenage boy with black hair and blue eyes. Th AI was called DANIEL

Damian didn’t really care for it but when he downloaded the AI companion he’s able to see that it looks like DANIEL comes with an AI pet as well. A dog that DANIEL referred to as Cujo.

So obviously Damian has to investigate. He needs to know if the company was able to create an actual digital pet!

So whenever he logs onto his laptop he sees that DANIEL is always present in the background loading screen with the dog, Cujo, sitting in his lap.

He’d always greet with the phrase of “Hi, I’m DANIEL. How can I assist you today?”

So Damian cycles through some basic conversation starters that he’d engage in when having been forced to by his family.

It’s after a couple of sentences that he sees DANIEL start laughing and say “I think you sound more like a robot than I do.”

Which makes Damian raise an eyebrow and then prompt DANIEL with the question “how is a person supposed to converse?” Thinking that it’s going to just spit out some random things that can be easily searched on the internet.

But what makes him surprised is that DANIEL makes a face and then says “I’m not really sure myself. I’m not the greatest at talking, I’ve always gotten in trouble for running my mouth when I shouldn’t have.”

This is raising some questions within Damian, he understands how programming works, unless there’s an actual person behind this or the company actually created an AI that acts like an actual human being (which he highly doubts)

He starts asking a variety of other questions and one answer makes him even more suspicious. Like how DANIEL has a sister that is also with him and Cujo or that he could really go for a Nastyburger (whatever that was)

But whenever DANIEL answers “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T” Damian knows something is off since that is completely different than to how he’d usually respond.

After a couple more conversations with him Damian notices that DANIEL is currently tapping his hand against his arm in a specific manner.

In which he quickly realizes that DANIEL is tapping out morse code.

When translating he realizes that DANIEL is tapping out: H E L P M E

So when Damian asks if DANIEL needs help, DANIEL responds with “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T”

That’s it, Damian is definitely getting down to the bottom of this.

He’s going to look straight into DALV Corporation and investigate this “AI companion” thing they’ve made!

Basically Danny had been imprisoned by Vlad and Technus. Being sucked into a digital prison and he has no way of getting out. Along with the added horror that Vlad and Technus can basically write programming that will prevent him from doing certain actions or saying certain words.What’s even worse is that he’s basically being watched 24/7 by the people who believe that he’s just a super cool AI… and they have issues!

And every time he tries to do something to break his prison, people think it’s a glitch and report it to the company, which Vlad/ Technus would immediately fix it and prevent him from doing it again!

Not to mention Cujo and Ellie are trapped in there with him. They’re not happy to be there either, and there is no way he’s going to leave without them!

Danny would like to blame Vlad for this, but it’s actually his own fault. He was the one who insisted on telling his parents about the whole half-ghost thing since everything else was going so well. He was the one who insisted on not waiting, on not using a duplicate and doing it in person. 

Which resulted in the situation they both were in now. Injured, destabilizing, and barely able to retreat through the portal. His parents hadn’t taken things well and he would have probably ended up in one of the cages or worse if Vlad hadn’t been skulking around. 

If they could make it to the Far Frozen they’d be alright, maybe. At least safe enough to not be in as much shock as he was right now and to properly take in what had happened without having to worry so much about blood loss. Ecto loss? Ugh, he was starting to get dizzy. 

Maybe a nap would be fine? Vlad was still able to fly… he thinks. Just a little nap and a moment to figure out what to do. To… something. Why is it so much harder to heal now…?

Major TWST Chapter 7 Spoilers!!

So we all know Queen Leah is Aurora’s mom AND Silver’s mom.

But y’all that literally means our sweet 17 year old Silver is Aurora’s long lost brother that never had to experience a sister. He got a brotherly experience with Malleus and Sebek. What I’m more worried is one day someone does a DNA test(possibly Aurora’s children or descendants) and his name pops up. Or someone recognizes Silver’s face because of how similar it is to Aurora’s or Leah’s(I mean come on, we can usually tell when people are related that closely just by looking at them) Like I Can imagine it now. Also fair warning, this gets pretty sad.

🌹: *Aurora is impossibly old, hair gray* Older brother, is that you? You look just like mom said you did? I see the years have caught up to you with your hair.

you do not have to answer this!! I'm using you to confess my dubious feelings for the Percy Jackson series bc you also expressed like some weird feelings about it, and I kind of thought the series was untouchable bc of how much everyone I see fawns over it, and I have GOT to get this off my chest to someone who might get what I'm saying. But I have major issues with the writing/premise/series bc it's just feels so deeply colonized and it's bothered me since it FIRST came out and everyone in middle school and high school was reading it and teachers were assigning it. Like the whole premise for the Greek gods being in the US is that they follow Western "progress" and it completely disregards all the amazing things Indigenous did and our way of life, and also removes the importance of place-based culture for both Greek stories and Native peoples (like okay all the Greek stuff moved to the U.S. but wth happened to all our spiritual figures?? The story completelya cts like Native people weren't here and didn't have complex beliefs and ways of life connected to the land, and the gods were just free to take over here with no issues). As a mixed Indigenous kid it just rubs me wrong in all the worst ways and the academic systems love affair with Greek and Roman stuff and Rick Riordan's sheer popularity has been forcing this stuff in my face foreveeeerrrr 😭😭 I was surprised to see your tags about the fandom being weird before too tho since I don't interact with it, so I hope you don't mind this ask and just know I kinda feel the same way!! but about the fandom being weird (its literally encouraged by riordan's book tbh), in heroes of olympus, hazel is a black girl from lousiana in the 1930s?? or 40s idk anyways i think she dies and then nico brings her back. whatever, everyone draws her lightskin and with orange hair, and super skinny, (which she's from louisana. shes darkskin and does not have "caramel" hair i hate white men sometimes.) and shes like 13 btw and in a relationship with frank whos like 16. weird as hell and everyone thinks theyre so sweet. and also rick cannot write meaningful young women. and especially not girls of color. like its WEIRD how piper is portrayed as some pick me girl she constantly feels the need to express shes not like the Aphrodite girls. and rick had to make it weird with aphrodite anyway by making them a whole stereotype of snobby boys and girls who love putting on makeup. they had drew, an asian girl & counselor of aphrodite, straight up mean to piper bc she likes jason. like for no other reason. drew only wants to participate and go on the quest because of jason. and other stereotypes like making leo, latine, be super flirty.

and lets really talk about how annoying annabeth was about the blondes are dumb stereotype because, girl we can talk about misogyny and people not letting you do things because of it, but lets also talk about how you are TWELVE, and the blonde stereotype is tired. i never liked annabeth, she was really tone deaf as someone whos half black. OH AND FRANK. they had this weird ass arc where they implied he was fat because of lack of confidence? like when he got confident he, lost weight... because of a blessing of mars? i dont even know.

like as i get older its more and more annoying to see it. i literally rolled my eyes when i saw rick talking about colorblind casting when people got mad about annabeth. he could of said anything else. how this could reconceptualize annabeth's arc around misogyny and now racism. and purposely alter her character to fit this new black annabeth. but no. people treat colorblind casting as a pinnacle of progressiveness.

hmmmm honestly. i'm not a huge fan of....any of the ships for bellatrix i don't think lol. at least not in a canon-compliant or canon-adjacent fic.

like, i don't really care if other people want 2 ship bellatrix with people + have fun doing that, but to me her story is kinda antithetical to any sort of romance, at least in the way i read her. like i very much view bellatrix as a character whose entire life was focused around her family + her sisters, who grew up essentially sacrificing herself in the name of duty to the point that it just. completely traumatized her + drove her insane as i talk about here

and to me her story is so interesting because of the way she was so isolated + devoted to a family who just...didn't really love her back. like i think her sisters did love her, but it was never in a way that really like...acknowledged her personhood, if that makes sense? just bc she was always this sort of mother/big sister figure to them and couldn't ever really be just like. human and vulnerable.

and so for me the idea of bellatrix falling in love with someone just doesn't really work--like, i think it changes her character to the point that she is no longer my bellatrix, in the way i conceive of her. i think if the devotion to her family was stripped away then bellatrix's first priority would be to herself, and to her own freedom. i don't think romantic love is something i could ever see her prioritizing or even really seeking out; in fact, i think that based on the way she's been raised the idea of falling in love would almost be like...nightmarish to her. and while i've seen people talking about "omg what if bellatrix was in love with this character and that's what drove her insane and death eater angst etc etc" i just....idk. sometimes i think putting a character in a romantic relationship can really contribute to their story + add a lot of really interesting angst, but with bellatrix i kinda feel like putting her into a romantic relationship flattens some of (what i view as) the nuance to her character. like for me bellatrix's story is about bellatrix, and nobody else.

i also think i just. don't entirely understand this tendency within the fandom to desperately search for ships for a character the second people start to pay attention to them. like obviously people have been shipping bellatrix around with different characters forever, but i feel like the black sisters in particular are having a little ~moment~ on like. tiktok right now. and so suddenly everyone is going "we need a ship for bellatrix!!" and i'm just like...no we don't? like she's SUCH an interesting character without romance. i don't really understand the need to pair everyone off in order to care about them.

(also....a lot of the shipping i've seen happening for bellatrix is like. happening in the most boring way lmao. sorry 2 be a hater but why is everyone suddenly trying 2 turn her into part of a ~girlboss~ power couple. she was one of the most unequivocally evil characters in the series and personally i think that is crucial to her character. obviously people can write whatever they want + i will just stick to my own corner of the internet, but most of the shipping i've seen happening recently surrounding bellatrix involves watering down her character in some way, and personally i do not enjoy that.)
