Winter 2024 Anime Review

Solo Leveling - 24 Episodes

This has been and will be my most anticipated series. We've only scratched the surface of the story and people are going nuts. I've been reading the light novel translations for a while now and I'm not even a little ready for when certain things are animated.

Easily one of the best anime adaptations out there. More to look forward to.

Sidenote - A1 is killing the animations considering it's one of their bigger ones in a while.

Also - they did a really solid job with the sound design, a lot of the timing made certain scenes feel just that much more intense.

9/10 - Amazing

Frieren - 28 episodes

Such a unique watching experience.

I think so many shows these days are fast paced, and action oriented, especially within the fantasy genre. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable watch.

The story is moving and the animations are warm and fuzzy.

Not much I'd change about the series.

10/10 - Masterpiece

The Apothecary Diaries - 24 Episodes

The second half of this series kept up with the flow of the first half really well. I feel like that shouldn't be a feat but it really is these days.

I genuinely love watching the subtleties of the romance in this series and the medical mystery cases are just as fun to watch.

The story has so many little bits and pieces working throughout the show and the last episode had me wrecked for reasons I never saw coming.

Just overall a big fan of this series.

9/10 - Amazing

Delicious in Dungeon - 12/24 Episodes

This series has no right to be this much fun.

The animations match the energy of the show so well and I think it's one of the best "entertainment" series of the season.

I was worried it would start to repeat itself but found that the characters become the highlight of the series and I looked forward to every episode.

(This is the series this season that I'm high-key obsessed with.)

Shangri-La Frontier - 25 Episodes

One of the most fun looking MMORPG animes I've seen. I remember reading the teaser manga a while ago and was stoked to see it animated. Just a genuinely well done gamer oriented series.

They do such a good job at showing exactly the kinds of small things gamers pay attention to and some of the combat learning is stellar.

Not to mention the sound track honestly did not need to go as hard as it did?!

Really hoping they continue on with this for another season.

8/10 - Very Good

Bucchigiri?! - 12 Episodes (Updated)

I haven't seen any coverage for this show for some reason. It's a one shot that Mappa animated. The story felt quite slow but I personally had fun with it, the character design was satisfying - gives a bit of Jojo's and SK8 vibes. After a few weeks I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back - it ends up being a decently satisfying story. It's rare to see single season shows and I think that was really refreshing.

(Opening and ending are both bangers)

Mashle - Season 2 - 12 Episodes

I decided to watch this once all the episodes had aired. I found that it's not one you can be in the mood to watch all the time, but when you are it's just as hilarious as the first season.

I've enjoyed the pacing of the story and I'm looking forward to future seasons.

Unwanted Undead - 12 Episodes

Another series I read the manga for when it premiered. There's something about this series that gets me hooked. While the animations aren't anything of note, I find the story is oddly unique and I ended up bingeing all the episodes in one go. Definitely one I'm curious to see where it goes.

Mr. Villain's Day Off - 12 Episodes

This is purely for my own personal interest in attractive moody villains with alter ego's. It's a lot of fun to watch and it's just so wholesome.

- tachigin: do u ever think about how they’re both liars. how they both have a hidden identity. how they both found family within the mafia not as the person they really are, but as the person they pretended to be. how the betrayal felt like when tachihara dropped his mask. OUGH

It's my number 1 right now, like i love them so much! Their ship is really cute and i love the contrast between them and how they work so well together as friends and more! I'm always giggling and shit when i think about them even if they're doomed by the narrative :(

Zolu (One Piece Live Action/Animanga)

I really liked their dynamic after watching the live action so i mainly ship opla! zolu, but any content of this ship is cute and catches my interest! This ship literally made me write fanfics again lol More Zolu please!

Miyusawa/Misawa (Ace of Diamond)

Miyusawa my beloved ❤️ The first time i watched this anime it had been an instant ship, their chemistry is amazing, the pitcher/catcher dynamic is chef's kiss and just the development of their relationship throughout the show was the highlight for me! I watched everything again recently and i still love this ship very much, fave fave fave :')

Sk8 was the anime of the season when it came out, the serotonin was just high with this one, especially during covid time. Reki and Langa's friendship was the cutest thing to watch and it was so genuine and then ep 7 happened and the ship just sailed really hard for me! So many cute moments while a beautiful relationship blossomed in front of our eyes!! Love!!

Kazurei (Buddy Daddies)

A new favorite from last year! The premise of the show was so engaging to me when it first came out and even though i knew Kazuki and Rei weren't going to be canon, we were still fed so well? Like Queerplatonic, same-sex parentality, friends to lovers trope??? we got everything and more, especially last episode like omg they're canon idc!!

Dreamling (The Sandman)

Fell in love with this ship instantly with just one episode and little content... the fandom got my back though, i was well fed and shipped them even harder thanks to all the fanarts and fanfics! i want season 2 right now and more of them!!

EmiSue (Dickinson TV)

Not my first wlw ship but definitely my favorite! From the first episode i knew they were soulmates and i wanted more of them together! The show gave us everything we wanted and i'm glad i got to witness it :)

Satosugu (Jujutsu Kaisen)

They're not Itafushi but they are Itafushi in some ways?? like parallels we can't ignore. It's a big ship in the fandom but i'm not as invested as many stsg shippers are, though i really like the ship, i read fanfics about them and i love their story in the first part of season 2! So much angst though...

Nobamaki (Jujutsu Kaisen)

I love them together, i think their ship is cute and has a lot of potential! I don't obssess with them enough and i should read more fanfics, but they're amazing so they stay at the top of my list!

Ima just get this out the way, I hate Adam. I hate him. I can sympathise with his back story. And I find his past with Joe and Cherry intresting.

But man everytime he's on he's onscreen I am uncomfortable.

I'm glad he regained his love for skating but dear god stay away from these kids.

Snake, I don't particularly like him. But I find him and his motivations intresting. The insight he has into Adam and who he is, the fact he's his mentor in a way.

His entrance into S was amazing. I like how his conversation with Reki helped Reki realise his passion for skateboarding.... Really wish he hadn't taken him into a love hotel for that conversation though.

Cherry is great. I may have geeked over Carla a wee bit, I think Carla as a concept is so cool.

I love how Cherry tries to exude this image of refinement and prestigue... That gets immediately destroyed when Joe shows up.

I love the bond they have, I'd like to know more about their past. I absolutely get why Cherry wanted to race Adam and holyshit that race.

Joe is great. I love how both of them are mentors to the kids, but especially Joe. Seeing him reach out to Reki when he was at his lowest, because he understands is great.

Because as much as they try to paint Joe as a "simple minded gorilla" he's got a ton of heart and he's very smart. And I like that Cherry knows that, I just love seeing them interact and bicker.

May be starting to ship Joe and Cherry.

I love Miya. Miya is definitely one of my favourite characters. He's such a little nerd. I love seeing him with everyone else because you know he's having fun.

There's something to be said that Adam could've become Miya if he regained or never lost Joe and Cherry.

Miya is everyone's snarky little brother, seeing him open up and have friends is just great. When he convinced those women that Joe was his dad and Cherry was his mum 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.

Absolutely broke my heart when he told Reki he was breaking his promise to him.

Because it shows how much Reki and the others mean to him, he's afraid of losing them. I don't blame Miya or Shadow for their involvement in that.

Was it mean? Yes, but I think they'd have stopped if they knew how much it was affecting Reki.

Because they've made jokes like this at each other constantly and everyone was okay with it. I think they'd regret it if they knew.

I absolutely love Shadow. Shadow went from the enemy to stressed out single parent and we love to see it.

He didn't adopt these kids, they signed the papers and showed up at his house.

He's a great rep for alt people, looks scary but is soft on the inside. His crush on his co-worker is adorable, I love that his day job is as a florist it's sweet.

I love that for all he says he truly cares about them.

And not on the list but Manager Oka, love him. I love how he's always keeping an eye on Reki and Langa. His talk with Reki after the fight, I like him he's good.

1. wangxian (lan wangji x wei wuxian), from mo dao zu shi — they are THE moment, they are THE couple, they are THE goals. who ever could have imagined someone would come up and write a troublemaker who falls into demonic arts and gets reincarnated to fight together with a sucker-for-rules expressionless man and make it work? they fit into any au as well, this fandom rocks. my lovely cultivators!

2. kagehina (kageyama tobio x hinata shouyou), from haikyuu!! — i dont even play volleyball. i dont even like sports! why do i love this anime and this duo specifically so much? they are so passionate about their hobbies, the rivalry and frenemy relationship? the POTENTIAL. the STORY they have. the "someone better will come and find you" promise. sheer beauty. they are silly and fresh and cute and i dont think i'll ever get tired of it.

3. yizhan (wang yibo x xiao zhan), from the untamed cast rpf — i know all the problematics about writing real person fiction. i KNOW, okay?? but people, let me like them and support them in peace?? 😔 i have so much love for these men, and its overall hella fun following their life unfold, even if they are not working together anymore. nonetheless, they are my dose of serotonin when i need it.

4. daiharu (kambe daisuke x katou haru), from fugou keiji: balance unlimited — i will not scream for a seson 2 here. i will scream for more FICS of them here! there ain't enough! its not even about the 'sugar daddy' appeal, its more about the 'partners in (solving) crime' appeal. oh and also the 'i hate you you arrogant prick but i WILL do anything for you' part. everything and every detail of this show.... seriously though: gold.

5. hilson (gregory house x james wilson), from house m.d — oh, my sweet stupid and repressed doctors, i would do unspeakable things for you. wilson has been through every hard moment of house's life. you can name them, he's been there. through every ridiculous situation of his too. it is overwhelming, honestly. the ending couldn't have been more reasonable and fitting for them, in my opinion.

6. hannigram (hannibal lecter x will graham), from hannibal — this gif alone of them with scratches and smiling conspiratorily to each other sums up their entire dynamic. they're toxic and no one's doing it like them. like, yeah, no shit, who would even dare, right? murder husbands can do anything and eat the rude as much as they want, i will be sipping on my drink and watching intently. (man truly looked at this detective he framed for murder and said he would remember their moment together forever??? just dont throw him in jail then???)

7. shiguang (lu guang x cheng xiaoshi), from link click — these pretty boys traveling through time invented the concept of yearning, and i will not explain more to not give season 2 spoilers. i fell in love with them as soon as i saw the first shot of the anime. it doesnt help that they have the same dynamic as wangxian, too. cheng xiaoshi, my beloved, you would never do anything to harm anyone (not purposefully) and i (as well as lu guang) worship you 🙏

8. renga (hasegawa langa x kyan reki), from sk8: the infinity — let's be true tho, can they never do a sports anime without pulling up homosexuals?? not that im complaining at all. please continue, in fact. every couple in this story is valid (adam does not exist), and i love this spirited, young concept of redescovering the beauty of a hobbie. lovely, all of them, but most specially my langa and his admiration for reki. their dynamic has no complications, its just so sweet.

9. moshang (mobei jun x shang qinghua), from the scum villain self-saving system — i will not share a pic of moshang official art because i find shang qinghua appearence too much childlike and annoying, meanwhile i find him much more interesting in the book and fanarts. in any case, i love this couple more than the main couple simply because our airplane-bro can make everything so hilarious. there are fics of them out there which are peak entertainment (check this one!). mobei's tsundere attitude and shang qinghua's shamelessness are a great combo.

10. hualing (hua cheng x xie lian), from heaven official’s blessing — the longing is unbearable. hua cheng loves this man so much, for real. waiting 800 fucking years?? being his most devoted believer? can you believe the audacity?? my man, though he has low self-steem, does anything to protect his god. he doesnt care about any realm. he only cares for xie lian, his dear god. they are the cutest couple.

bonus: aziracrow, johnlock, tododeku, victuuri, blackbonnet, mafuyama, redblue (from this is how you lose the time war).

these are my favorite ships ever! they are what i scream about alternatively, and when i say so, i'm not joking. one week i'm freaking out over new link click content and in the other one i'm reviewing house m.d episodes. my life's a circle with my favorite ships in it and i ain't regretting anything.

I have not finished the episode yet but I've just gotten to the Fukufuku backstory (specifically the part where they just met and its night and they're lying on the floor together) and, these two are fucking dark timeline Renga from sk8! 'The way of the sword is enjoyable!' and 'I'm going to master the sword alongside you' vs 'skating is fun!' and 'I want to skate with you infinitely' I swear Fukuchi even did the same hand movement that Reki did at some point. Energetic sunshine (at least at the moment) x calm and collected. I am getting such strong Renga vibes from that scene and it's driving me insane.

OK I JUST WATCHED TWO (2) SECONDS FURTHER AND NOW WE'RE IN A FUCKING SHOJO ANIME! BONES LOVES OLD MAN YAOI SO MUCH! THIS IS SO GAY! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHERRY BLOSSOMS!!? A CHERRY BLOSSOM PETAL IN THE SHAPE OF A HEART JUST FELL INTO FUKUZAWAS SAKE(?) AND THEN BROKE INTO TWO. God, Fukufuku are so gay. I know that stabbing someone isn't exactly romantic but he Fukuzawa did the thing where you grab onto the other persons clothes and after Fukuchi stabbed him his head ended up resting on his chest. This is PEAK romantic tradgedy.

Teruko, I love you. She looks so pretty and she is so hecking smart and I just adore her. She let Atsushi go! Woohoo!! Also, Atsushi's hallucinations are really coming in full force, huh? He is seeing so many people.

Dazai and Sigma are so silly, I love them, Dazai stop flirting for two fucking seconds challenge. Also, it's fun to hear that Dazai is screwing around with Sigma while thinking of Kunikida! Truly every ship is being fed this season! Except sskk, but we did get Aku in Atsushi's hallucinations doing a thing so that's kinda a win for the gays!

I must say, I don't really have much to say on the Meursault section. It was good! The animation was great as it usually is for the Meursault sections, Sigma was so pretty I love him and! Dazai did the thing where he played with Sigma's hair! Woo! Fyodor was his usual level of kinda ugly in anime form, Dazai is showing emotions! more of the sillies, Dazai fucking stood on Sigma, which is delightful, aaaaaaand it's started to flood! Fuck!

Anyways, back to the very start of this episode before I was overcome by the homosexual-ness of Fukufuku, Aya Bram Kunikida and Tanizaki got yoinked! Fuck! I still have a theory that Tanizaki could be doing an illusion and I will make a post about it one day. And also, please excuse me for saying this because while I am still upset about Ranpo being hurt... watching Fukuchi pick him up by the scruff of his neck like a cat was kinda hilarious. Also, Teruko I love you. You're the only hunting dog that heard about Fukuchi's real identity and didn't immediately die. Girlboss fr. Also also, where are Lucy Kyouka and Yosano :D? W-where did they go? Asagiri please I need to see my girls.

And to once again revisit the old gays, Holy Shit that was so gay. Nobody told me that the Fukufuku backstory was a Sports Anime tm that turned into a war drama in the second season! I knew we said they were divorced but I never realized just how married they were before the separation! Wow! Fukuzawa smiled so softly at Fukuchi! They were such sweet kids! Aagh!

This was a good episode! I liked this! Excited for next Wungo Wednesday!

LGBTQ+ Representation: Beyond an Unreasonable Doubt

I wrote a thing about something annoying that I noticed in queer media representation a while ago and I decided to post it here, because I feel Tumblr is where it belongs. I might have gotten the details of some of the shows wrong, as I haven’t watched most of these in while.

Whenever someone tells me to watch a show because “It’s gay,” I ask them two questions. “Is it gay beyond a reasonable doubt?” and, if they say yes, I ask “Is it gay beyond an unreasonable doubt?” The first question is my standard for something being gay enough to warrant that particular sales pitch. The second question is to determine if it will be 100% certified grade-A representation. Now, to explain what I mean by all of this, I need to talk about some gay anime skater boys.

The anime “Sk8 the Infinity” is an excellent example of something that is gay beyond a reasonable doubt, but not beyond an unreasonable doubt. “Sk8” is an anime about using the Power of Friendship to break the laws of physics in dangerous underground skateboarding competitions. The first episode introduces us to Reki, our protagonist and the archetypical teenage skater boy. And Langa, a 17 year-old Canadian snowboarder who moved to his mother’s hometown of Okinawa after the death of his father. The main cast of the show also features a sassy pre-teen catboy, a very buff Italian restaurant owner, and a wealthy calligrapher with an A.I. skateboard. Throughout the first half of the show, Reki and Langa are implied to have romantic feelings for each other, mostly through visual language, which isn’t quite enough for less observant straight audiences to pick up on. In episode 8 while Reki is sulking because of an argument he and Langa had in the previous episode, Langa participates in a skateboarding race for which Reki was not present and realizes that skating isn’t fun without him, because when he skates with Reki his heart races and when he skates without him, he feels nothing. The two reunite in episode 10 with a reunion that my original, chaotic draft of this post described as “very cute and gay.” The final (twelfth) episode, ends with a narration monologue by Langa mirroring Reki’s monologue from episode 1. In the opening narration, Reki talks about happiness and expresses the idea that there is something scary and unknowable about the question of “What is your happiness?” He says that he knows what his happiness is, and it’s implied that his happiness is skateboarding, as the sentence is visually punctuated with a shot of Reki skateboarding. In Langa’s version of the monologue, he also claims to know what his happiness is, and the shot visually punctuating the sentence is one of Reki, implying that Reki is Langa’s happiness. I don’t know what kind of friendships you’ve all been experiencing, but the relationship between these two skater boys seems more than platonic to me. But they don’t date, or kiss, or say they’re gay, so the show has been deemed queerbait, which it effectively is. There are still some people who think these characters are straight, but those people had to do some impressive mental gymnastics to come to that conclusion. Those mental gymnastics are what I mean by “an unreasonable doubt”.

One of my personal favorite examples of something that does meet the threshold of being gay beyond an unreasonable doubt is “The Owl House,” which is so gay that Disney shortened the third season to three extra long episodes spread out by several months. The main character, Luz, is explicitly stated to be bisexual in season 3 episode 1, “Thanks to Them”. Even before that she had been officially dating another girl, Amity, who kissed her in season 2 episode 20, Clouds on the Horizon. No amount of cognitive cartwheels can deny that these girls are not straight. The Owl House also has a non-binary character named Raine whose identity is never named, but everyone refers to them as “they” and no one ever uses any gendered language to describe them. No one could in good faith assume that they’re a man or woman because nothing in the text at all implies they are either. They are non-binary beyond an unreasonable doubt.

Lastly, an example of something that I think is gay, but isn’t quite beyond a reasonable doubt. “Infinity Train” is an anthology series, where each season follows a different set of protagonists in the same setting. The fourth season is set in the 1980s and follows Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park, repairing their relationship and re-forming their band. The relationship between the two characters can easily be interpreted as romantic, but I can see how someone might interpret it otherwise without any psychological splits. Gay, but not beyond a reasonable doubt.

This method of categorization is a problem, albeit a somewhat unavoidable one. It shouldn’t have to work like this. Queer media should not have to include a kiss or someone outright stating their sexuality to “count” as gay. Even things like Sk8 that are practically beating you over the head with how gay they are aren’t considered cannon representation because they don’t include that explicit confirmation. The lack of queer representation combined with the prevalence of queerbaiting has made it so we have to gatekeep queer content by drawing arbitrary lines. Some people say that anyone who looks at media without explicit confirmation and comes to the conclusion that the relationship between two male characters is romantic are “destroying platonic male friendship by making everything gay” or something. The more you hear those mental gymnastics the more it gets in your head, and queer people start doubting themselves whenever they interpret something as queer when it isn’t outright stated. I have no idea how to solve this problem, or if it’s even possible, but I can point it out and give it a name, which might help smarter people than me to think of a solution or a deeper analysis.

Okay, I'll do 3 since I also want to answer for SK8! First, BNHA!

My favorite characters are (and should be no surprise to anyone who has been following my blog long enough 😆)...

Miruko - hands down she easily became my favorite the moment she graced her presence in the story. She's the #5 Pro Hero who just hops around and kicks ass. She's a "no nonsense, let's get this done" character and I have to applaud Sakaya Kinoshita and Anairis Quiñoes for providing such great voices for her. Both women really put "I'm a badass and I know it" into voicing Miruko. There's also the fact that rabbits are one of my favorite animals.

Midoriya - He's unique to me. He has a range that I like. He could look like he couldn't hurt a fly and then the next he looks out for blood. His green curls and freckles are nice touches to his character. He's sweet, kind and has a sharp mind. But he's also stubborn, quick to anger, irrational. Out of all BNHA characters, he is the one I do relate to the most when it comes to having emotions. Again, I'm applauding voice actors here because Daiki Yamashita and Justin Briner bring Midoriya to life on the screen for me. I could not imagine any other voices but theirs for the sub and dub, I just can't.

Rock Lock - I'm giving Rock Lock love here because he just doesn't get enough of it. He's one of the few adult characters that really did bring up a good point about the kids in season 4 and yet does recognize their potential. He immediately gave me Dad vibes and I was right that he was indeed one. Which is another element to his character I love. He thinks about his family, he is really a softie. I love that for him. When he thought about making it back to his wife and son, I teared up a little. And I'll bring race into this for a bit because it is not often we do get Black characters in media with a softer side, let alone in media not created by Black people. So it was nice to see an actual family man with a job like his where it doesn’t affect said family in a bad way like Endeavor's does or even Captain Hero's in Vigilantes where he was having some martial problems. He's #1 Dad and husband in my book and I take no arguments on that. Also, anytime he talks I gotta to listen. Again, yes, voice actors, Yasuhiro Fujiwara and Gabe Kunda, love them. And his quirk, I actually love that quirk. It's a fun one.

Now for moments!!! Again, doing just three. And I'm sticking to just the anime here to avoid spoilers.

Ya'll already know I'm going to say the Miruko vs. High End Nomus fight. Out of all the fights in season 6, that is one of the best ones. Even leading up to her being Shigaraki's containment. I was actually surprised that made it on one of the recent Watchmojo anime videos for anime fights that caught the audience by surprise or something along those lines. Of course, not mad about it because oh my gosh, just watching her kick ass in a purple lit setting really just... I loved it so much.

I gotta bring up the dorm room episode here. It's one of the episodes I can rewatch and not get tired of it. There's so many funny moments in that episode and to be more specific my favorite scene is when they got to Tokoyami's room. From him trying to stop them from checking out his room, be overpowered because it was 2 to 1 and he is still fairly small (doesn't even have muscles until later) to the showcasing of the room. His room is my favorite. Gothic setting with black and purple lighting? Hell yes! I also love his "GEEEEET OOOOUT!" Don't blame him.

For the third one... hm... I have a lot of moments I like and I'll pick season 4 for this since not a whole of people talk about that season. And I'll choose... okay, when Eri finally smiled. That scene actually made me cry, did it. She's been through so much and all it took for her to smile was to see Midoriya on stage and have a fun time. Honestly, every time Eri smiles I want to or actually do cry. I did it in Mirio's flashback of his when she smiled at him in season 6. She's just so precious!

Now onto SK8 the Infinity! Starting with the characters which was hard to do because I do love them all as a whole.

Reki - he's literal sunshine who really has some great artistic skills. And out of all the characters, his design is my favorite out of everyone else's. I would wear his hoodies and I love how he wears many colors. He had a signature outfit, but he does change his clothes and his aesthetic is something I would wear. I am a sucker for colors and hoodies. Also, love hearing

Sketchy - Yes, that little pet is a favorite. He's just so freaking adorable??? Sassy little creature.

Nanako - Langa's mom is just so amazing. That woman really is just trying her best to be a good mom and you know she really does love her son and her late husband. She reminds me of Inko, Midoriya’s mom. Just a woman who has a kind heart and wants nothing but her son to be okay and safe.

And now for moments!!

The beach episode is overall is a favorite. I love that episode as a whole. It was a very funny episode... then episode 7 happened. I never thought the number 7 would betray me.

I really love that part where Reki and Langa were fixing skateboard, it's such a sweet moment.

The part in the epilogue with the Kyan family! As a big sister, it warmed my heart seeing another big bro Reki moment with the twins! IT WAS SO ADORABLE!!

God I hope either the OVA or Season 2 gives us more Cherry and Joe backstory cause fuck do they deserve it.

Cherry, honestly, you have extended your hand to Adam far too many times. Honestly, what has he done for you other than take? You try and give your friendship, you try and give a helping hand, you try and give love, and you try and offer a chance to be better, but he won’t take it. It’s not your job to fix him, and at this point it’s hurting you more than you realize.

I wish Sk8 was longer cause we deserved more serious beefs for Joe, Cherry, Miya, and Shadow. Really amp them up to show why their the top skaters of the place.

Not gonna lie, when I first watched Sk8, I actually put a little hope into Adam, watching him lose his voice after he pulled Cherry’s card. His little “Oh” had me thinking he actually had a soul for a hot second.

The one outcome Joe didn’t want coming true. God can you imagine, even if he won against Langa, he’d still have had to watch Adam and Cherry’s beef?!

Cherry: I’ve been waiting for this day. Adam: I didn’t want to compete against you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.

I do actually like that Joe can flirt with people he only probably expects a passionate one-night stand, or something of a short relationship from. But, when it’s someone he truly loves, he loses his voice and becomes flustered.

Adam: Hey, how long is this little skit of yours going to go on? It’s about time to start. Me: Aww, is someone jealous he gave up his only two friends and that they still find happiness in each other? Sounds like a you problem.

I like the way that Sk8 shows that Cherry’s current feelings for Adam aren’t romantic. When he gets hit, the image that shatters isn’t the one of the two of them looking into each other’s eyes or when Adam calls them special. It’s the one of him with Adam and Joe. The one of them laughing and being happy, something that he wishes that they all could have again.

I’m so gonna make a post on Adam’s boring comment. Like, how can I not? He’s so full of shit it’s actually insane. Like, I’m sorry you’re not letting yourself have fun.

On another note, I’m also gonna make a post on why I think Kaoru can’t go into the zone. And it’s not because of the way he skates either.

A shonen where (as far as I've seen throughout S1) the female characters aren't oddly hyper-sexualized, are as unhinged as the male characters, are stupid as the male character, where the main girl is given absolutely spine tingling fight scenes within the first season itself!? No obvious love interest!? Also gorgeous animation & bonus points for outright referring naruto & bleach

1. Haikyuu

NOTHING HAS EVER GIVEN ME THE HYPE THAT HAIKYUU HAS!? No anime OR show has ever had me at the edge of the seat as watching a haikyuu match! No anime protagonist has ever made me feel genuinely proud of them the way hinata & the others have! I think it's because haikyuu actually gives you a (respectively) more realistic look into what progress looks like? How gruelling and even embarrassing it is when you're trying to get better at something everyone says you can't do. And the hype it creates during the matches? *chef's kiss* The opening songs are gorgeous too and it somehow makes me care about an insanely long list of side characters. Plus I usually always watch the sub for anime but this is definitely one of the moments where the dub is just Art™. I've never heard teenagers in anime sound more like teenagers

I also really like bnha & kkm but not the anime? I dunno, there's a disconnect between the manga art style & the anime art style that put me off the anime. Plus kkm's anime was gay in a lowkey homophobic way while the manga (& novels) were just gay? There's also, weirdly enough, quite an overlap between kkm's MC & OM!'s MC

I wonder how much of the manga the anime will cover now that there are only a few episodes left. I really wanted it to cover the whole hacker/m family arc of winter confronting ron, I think that would've been a perfect ending and setting up another season but now i'm not too sure bc that arc has a lot of chapters in the manga. Maybe they'll cut the arc and leave us on a cliffhanger. (Eventho I'd really hate that). The only reason I expected them to cover it is bc they made the choice to animate both winter and milo only for them to appear just for a couple seconds. I think if they covered that arc the animation would be more worth it. I mean IM STARVING FOR WINTER CONTENT HERE!!

First, I want to let you know that there are some days where I'm busy with work, or recovery, so sometimes when I get home, I just gotta take a big fat nap. Like seriously, my day consisted of watching the new episode at 8:30am, go to work, go to Dr appointment, get home, eat, pass out at 4pm and it is now 8:30pm. Before the first episode officially aired, I heard a rumor that it was going to be getting a part 2 soooooo 🤞 but yeah, the hacker arc really is where the story picks up, so, in order to really grab people, they HAVE to animate that arc soon. I'm actually feeling good on the Winter content right now, cause of how much I ate it up, but I do wanna be a pig and eat up more. We TECHNICALLY only got one full body shot with the front view, the shoes, and the back view. I'm sad they didn't animate her driving the boat, cause that's one of her really good looking panels, but I'm still glad we got what we did. Her just letting the man fall to the floor was SO GOOD and funny, whenever I need something more, I go back to the joke video I made on that and I'm just like, "thanks for the meal. 😌🙏"

2022 - WEEK 34 WRAP-UP

SK8 THE INFINITY IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 2 AND THERE WILL BE AN OVA. I am still processing the news! Been waiting for this the second the show ended last year. In celebration of the news, I made a small Matchablossom fics rec list. ❤️ You can find it here on Dreamwidth or on Tumblr.

Thoughts: Sola was already amazing by herself when they started the series, but when they added her husband into the mix? Gold. They are fun, chaotic, and such a joy to watch. And it's really satisfying watching two chefs who really know their craft cook. I can watch them all day. My recent favorite video is the hot dogs one. Go watch it. You won't be disappointed. My Anime Top Ten

After really getting into anime this year, these top ten lists off of tumblr really helped me find new stuff to watch, so I thought I’d add my own :)

10. Assassination Classroom

The first season: Hilarious, heartwarming, an enjoyable ride. The second season: Pain. 

An incredible story. This anime had such a good ending and I loved it so much. Still could not name all of the characters if you put a gun to my head. 

9. Bungo (u?) Stray Dogs 

This show, man. Since I wasn’t familiar with Japanese literature I had no idea it was a theme of the show. That is, until these American authors started showing up and I was like- wait why is my 6th grade reading list a character in this anime? Cue me doing a lot of research into all the character’s names. 

8. Barakamon

The sweetness of the anime... the humor, the happy feelings that it gave me. The relationship dynamics between the characters were so wholesome and fulfilling. I am a sucker for feel-good shows. Any scraps of serotonin does wonders. 

7. Kamisama Kiss

Can we just talk Tomoe for a second? This romance got me man. I was in, hook, line, and sinker. Where is my fox familiar that serves my beck and call? I want one. Now. The adoration that occurs is so... I just... simply must pass away. 

6. Attack On Titan

What a story, my dudes. A beloved favorite of the times and for good reason. Would not recommend to children. Would not recommend to those who do not enjoy intense shows, or ones with violence. Would recommend to literally anyone else. You start it, and you’re like, okay I see where this is going, and then you’re like, oh. oh no I do not. 

5. My Roommate Is A Cat

I love cats. I love slice of life. I love dark haired, kinda messy characters. Boom. Checks all the boxes. If you like cats, watch this anime. If you don’t like cats, seriously, why? 

4. Sk8 The Infinity 

If you had told me when I started this anime that it would have been in my top 5 I would not have believed you, and yet... This anime is about skateboarding, but actually it is about the best relationships you have ever seen. The wholesome love between this found family. I would give my kidney for those gay skater boys. It is like a shot of serotonin right to the brain. 

3. Monthly Girl’s Nozaki Kun

I know I said that Kamisama Kiss is my favorite romance, and that’s because I don’t consider this show a romance. It is so unromance and that is the whole point. I laughed. So hard. Every single character is incredible and so fun to watch. My only complaint is how short it is. I want ALL THE EPISODES. 

2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

What is there to say that has not been said about this absolute masterpiece? It is a favorite for a reason, that reason being it is a fan-fucking-tastic show. Blob Alphonse is my favorite thing. 

1. HunterxHunter

I LOVE THIS SHOW. It has such good re-watchability and makes me so happy. Like I watch it and grin like a fool because I am enjoying myself so much. Just being able to feel unbridled joy in this hell scape of an existence is such a plus. I love this show. I love it I love it I love it.
