raaaandom thought since I haven't kept up a whole lot with your Vitalis AU and forgive me if you've already talked about this before but uh, how did Sun x Mercury come to be in that?
I know you tend not to talk about shipping a lot on this blog lol but I'm too intrigued. Sun x Mercury has really grown on me as of late and I'm 90% sure it's because of the one art you did of them along with Freezerburn for pride month so I'm curious to know the thought process 👁️👄👁️
i've gone back-n-forth with so many story ideas that at this point i'm honestly not that sure how it came to be lol but it probably was around the time i had sun travel / spend time with mercury and emerald for a while that it just kind of clicked in place?
like mercury is pretty jaded as a person, understandably looking at his childhood, and he doesn't really think there's anything else for him in this world than being an assassin. still, i think he knows, in a way, that his childhood was Fucked Up™, he knows his father hated him, but i think that's something that's like, he still had to prove himself, ya know? and that very easily leads to the kind of thinking that there's something wrong with him, that maybe if he was better, stronger, etc., his father wouldn't have hated him and the fact that he does is his fault.
and while he does occasionally drop these bombs, outright spitting them out sometimes, about his childhood that would make just about anyone to go holy shit are you okay?, he doesn't exactly keep the kind of company who would do that (bc they didn't exactly have great childhoods either).
so while he knows, it's one thing to kind of think it to yourself; it's something different to have someone else affirm that yes, it was fucked up and that he deserved better, even if his initial reaction to that would be poor bc people tend to be defensive of themselves and their life.
and i think sun could be that person to say it out loud? he's very much Friend-shaped™, he's sun "i go where i'm needed" wukong; while he's curious and definitely has plenty of questions, he's respectful enough to not prod, and if he thinks he overstepped he backs up while also making sure that he is there, ya know, whenever the other person is ready. but he's not a pushover, and he can also be very blunt and just blurt things out so him going "dude that's kind of fucked up" to something mercury says is definitely something i can see happening (without the swearing... maybe.)
he also doesn't exactly hold any moral high-ground or grudges on anyone, so mercury being one of the bad guys and an assassin wouldn't really be a problem for him lol
so, somewhere along the way i just thought sun seeing mercury and going "he seems cool" and then doing the completely opposite of reality and starting to orbit around him seemed like a good idea. and thus i sealed my fate in a rarest of rare-pair pits.

Best bastard in all of avantris?
Oh my god, this is such a tough question!!
Since I've essentially barely touched (or not at all yet) the other campaigns, I'm basing this entirely off of Once Upon A Witchlight. I like all of the characters for many different reasons, but one thing I love about all of them, is how quick witted they are. Like more than 5 minutes without someone at the table laughing? Unheard of. These people know how to make each other laugh and I love them for that, and in turn it makes for such enjoyable characters, like I can't think of any one thing about any of these characters that I actively dislike at the moment.
That said, I'm pretty torn between my favourite being Gideon or Torbek 😅 Gideon because the hijinks he winds up in (often to only partial fault of his own), plus I'm a sucker for big bearded characters with a sick ass fighting style, and of course Mace's charm that shows through Gideon (that LAUGH). Also those chains??? Honestly didn't even know about them for a few episodes, cause they weren't really referenced until his performance at the big top and I hadn't really thought about them when I saw the official character art, but I'm absolutely OBSESSED with his backstory and how he uses them to fight now.
and then Torbek cause he's such a sad, traumatized little guy that I want to wrap in a blanket, every time they start to talk about what he went through and he just wants to shut down and not think about it? Protect this guy at all costs. Plus Andy is a smart guy playing a dumb character and it makes for some absolutely hilarious instances, and I absolutely adore his character voice, his manner of speaking and inflection is so great.

I just had the absolute worst idea for a submas au.
WARNING LONG POST I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE READ MORE
Like. Ingo disappears, as usual. But people think Emmet killed him because of someone spreading misinformation that is taken as truth (no it's not volo i don't believe in evil volo. He's not immortal in this otherwise he would have come forward).
Emmet gets taken to prison while waiting for a trial and he has a rough time there for the little time hes in (i can't bring myself to leave him there for too long) because prison wouldn't be kind to a man like Emmet (autistic). But that's not even the main angst.
So unova is basically Pokémon America, right? I don't know about new York, or even how it works, but... There's death row in America isn't there?
Whatt if Emmet ended up on death row over false accusations? (HE DOES NOT DIE, I CAN'T HANDLE THAT.)
Ingo comes home with some of his memories on the day of his execution. He remembers Emmet, a little bit, and he's excited to see him again. He reappears at the station, and the depot agents are ecstatic to see him, before they remember what day it is and they realize Ingo has no idea. The very second Ingo realizes Emmet's in danger he starts sprinting across nimbasa towards the direction they pointed him in, hoping he isn't too late.
People who are gathered in front of the building, to say goodbye to Emmet, to protest, or even to get a good scoop, they see him coming and move to clear the way.
The security guards can't really do anything but yell at him when he climbs over the gate, there's too many people to shoot (tranquilizers. Pokémon police is only a little bit better ive decided) safely.
Ingo's coat becomes even more of a rag than it already is after that, but he doesn't really care. Be needs to find his brother.
Meanwhile Emmet is talking to his family for what he believes to be the last time. He is, understandably, a wreck. He's gone non-verbal, they took his clothes from him an the ones he's wearing now have a horrible texture and he's obviously inconsolable. Drayden and Iris (and Elesa, if friends are allowed in) don't say anything either. They know it wasn't him, that he could never do that but they couldn't prove it. How do you reassure someone who's going to die for no reason? There's still the matter of missing Ingo, too.
When an officer says their time is up he wordlessly gets up to follow her as his family is herded out of the room. Iris starts crying and he feels nothing but dread and grief.
Suddendly, they hear a door bursting open at the end of the hall, and yelling. And then someone tackles Emmet with enough force to break him out of the officer's grip, and then they've dragged him to the other end of the room, far away from anyone else, and then his vision is covered by a familiar, albeit tattered coat, and then several Pokémon burst out of their pokeballs to protect them, and then he finally, finally lets himself realize who tackled him, because despite how they're clearly out of breath they shout, at a volume he hasn't heard in years:
"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HIM!!!"
Emmet looks up to his savior. "...Ingo?" When did he start crying? It doesn't matter. Ingo is here now and everything will be alright again.

rohan is so cute as frank. and not enough people talk about it!! just wanna hold him and tell him everything will be okay 😭
he is !! anon, you are so right !! 💗 i could talk all day about how pretty rohan is and his boyish good looks, but i could spend just as long talking about how much i love frank and how interesting i find his character so i really wish there were more frank fans out there too (i guess we just have to stick together lol) !! season three is not available for me yet so this is based on s1&2, but my agenda remains the same: protect frank hardy at all costs.
i think what i love most about frank is he is so earnestly genuine. i love how when he first meets callie and chet and isn't sure how to respond to callie's playful scrutiny. i love when he can't take the rosegrave tour seriously. i love how he understands the need to hone his detecting skills through fenton's books, rather than joe's intuitive approach. i love when his voice goes all soft when he realises he was wrong about tom ellroy (and also how it signals the first inkling that he is getting too reliant on the eye). i love how when fenton comes back from finding rupert, his reuniting with frank is so different to his one with joe; he tells frank "it's okay", over and over because frank's reactions are so much more internal than joe's (for the most part).
frank is honestly just very well-written. he's athletic but not a jock. he's studious but not an academic. he's romantic but he isn't particularly flirtatious (i'm not sure it even registers to him that he is handsome, beyond the "clearly biased" opinions of his mom/grandma/aunt). he's level-headed and has a check on his external displays of emotion, but his internal emotional experiences runs very deep. he is rational and measured, but he can also be one-track minded.
i love how there are so many facets of his character but none of them are ever really contradictory, and when they are it just highlights how he is a teenager who is struggling with this huge trauma and sometimes makes irrational decisions because of it. he's a skeptic, he's level-headed, but he's also not had the support he needs in order to grieve his mom properly so all of his skepticism goes out of the window for a chance to see laura again. he's selfish in his grief because even though he knows joe is hurting too, it's difficult to see past his own hurt because (as everyone points out) he was laura's counterpart, and joe is fenton's. the fact that he really is a perfect fit to be gloria's heir but he's so deeply compassionate that he could never be ruthless enough for that sort of business.
where was i going with this? i don't know, but i agree with you, anon. i really want to tell him it'll all be okay. frank really has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and he is struggling so much but it's revealed in much more subtle ways than with joe. in the first season, he's lost his mom, he's in a new place and his dad has left. i think part of him feels like he has to stay grounded and reasonable, for joe and fenton and trudy. i just want him to be supported and happy. in the second season, he's still struggling, and now has to try even harder to keep himself grounded even with unimaginable influences working again him in his very own brain. he's trying so, so hard to remember that it is the eye that manipulating him, he tries so hard to ignore george even when he's starting to see him everywhere. he can feel himself going mad and there's nothing he can do about it.
by the end of season two, before the sleep room, frank feels like he needs to save himself because no one else will. he feels like he needs to save his mom, because no one else wants too.
the show is really about, amongst other things, how grief can effect people. and even more so, it's about grief effecting people in different and unexpected ways. joe clearly channels his grief into solving mysteries and helping people. sure, he's a little bit gung-ho about it but it makes sense for his character -- optimistic and impulsive. frank, on the other hand, who is shown time and time again to be skeptical and level-headed, is the one who becomes irrational and unstable and emotionally volatile. of course the eye has some influence, but i also think frank's more reserved nature is being strained by the grief that he isn't given a chance to deal with and ultimately it makes him desperate and scared.
what i'm trying to say is: frank is so very cute and caring and earnest and i love him very dearly.
