okay yall i fell down a rabbit hole of people on tiktok criticizing chappell roan and now im all worked up so here i am giving my opinions no one asked for;

so something i've been noticing a real influx of is people bringing up her hot to go performance at outside lands (a festival) where she says something along the lines of "vip thinks they're way too cool to do this.. you're not fun!" mfs have been getting online to talk about how chappell was being SO RUDE!!! and NOT EVERYONE KNOWS HER MUSIC WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS!!!! but like anyone with common sense who has seen the vid/heard the audio can tell she was being playful?? like come on now. i also saw someone post abt how she was being mean to jimmy fallon?? 😭 first off, while im not sure abt this one in particular late night shows are usually scripted and secondly im starting to believe more and more that these people have just never interacted with a drag queen before. chappell roan is a STAGE PERSONA and the majority of drag queens are characterized by having this larger than life attitude- take for example that one rupaul /jimmy fallon interview (u guys know which one) like idk i feel like it's very obvious that chappell is playing it up for the sake of entertainment, not cuz she genuinely believes she's above everyone else.

the other thing i've seen ppl whining about is how a) she doesn't wanna take a picture with fans, therefore she believes her shit doesn't stink and b) the two tiktoks she posted a day ago where she was voicing her struggles openly without policing her tone. first off, CELEBRITIES DONT OWE U PICTURES. don't get me wrong, taking a picture with a celeb u are a fan of can be a great experience and a fun story- but people are acting as if it is their god given right to get a photo with whoever they want whenever they want. "oh well she brought this on herself it's the price of being famous" are u stupid omfg acting like chappell signed a contract giving up her autonomy in order to get on the billboard charts. she quite literally did not choose this and even if she did that doesn't mean ur automatically entitled to a pic with her as if she's some kind of zoo animal like?? the two vids she posted to tiktok essentially telling ppl to leave her alone was met with backlash because she 'sounded rude' again im going to put this in perspective for everyone. her family is being stalked. she is being harassed both online and in real life. being upset because she comes off a little brash in a video where she is practically begging yall to stop with the harassment should be the least of your concerns. this is a twenty six year old who was virtually unknown six months ago- her meteoric rise to fame was not something she could have been prepped for in anyway possible. i feel like some people just aren't trying to wrap their heads around how insane the reality of this situation really is. the phrase "fifteen minutes of fame" used to be a lot more hyperbolic than it is now. i'm exhausted

Yes, it's a little sad the way George is being called out because he wants to say the things he didn't like about HotD, specifically season 2. He was more than satisfied with the first one, although the changes were more or less criticized, but he didn't say anything bad and now that he wants to give his opinion as a writer/creator of the Song of Ice and Fire universe, they call him unprofessional (because they name him as a producer) and that he owes us more books, I even saw someone saying how he should have written the dance.

The thing is, does it really matter when, if we're talking exclusively about any sort of material prospects that GRRM could have to have more of his work adapted into TV/streaming OR the show's viability/popularity in streaming:

HBO owns any and all ASoIaF adaption now and in the future

HBO will continue to make adaptations even after he's gone most likely no matter how "unprofessional" he acts, bc they are getting rich from it and that's all they care about anyway

and GRRM is an old man who's now richer than he needs to be

yes, he is focused on ASoIaF, and this is his more famous as well as the only (I think) adapted part of his oeuvre

if he really has signed away his own work to be HBO's material forever and ever (as I heard) and has not assured that he could be the final authority for stuff NOT having to do with costs and those practical things AND if people really feel as if nothing he could say abt the show could deprive them of loving the show...why the claims of "unprofessionalism" if you're just going to watch the next season and keep HBo's pay up?

a) some of the actors don't even watch the show OR they avoided knowing too much abt the orig story so they wouldn't compare and be disappointed or stay focused on Ryan's vision (out of the mouth of Steve-Corlys' actor); b) some don't watch bc it's just a thing among actors to not watch what they are a part of, therefore how are their feelings really hurt, esp when the running line among fans who criticize the show is that the only or one of the few things abt it that were nonnegotiably good were the actors? When people ride and die even when some say Emma is not that good looking or BR-ugly or they say Matt is ugly and the responses are ranging from "no" to "no one else can play Daemon, I just can't see it"? The critiques are never abt the actors; c) GRRM has ALWAYS praised the actors, esp Paddy and Phia; d) the critiques were ALWAYS abt the writing or choices in STORYTELLING, not the fucking actors and non-writing crew! I swear to god, things get fed into the "Machine of Fandom Disengnuity" every other week: most recently it was why people disliked how HotD did B&C and some said "oh you wanted it to be bloodier, you just want to se a kid die a gory death" (as if what was presented on screen, even just by audio, wasn't "gory" by itself since hearing a literal child's head get sawed off instead of quickly cut off still presents an "image", one with even more physical suffering--again, gore).

I really wanna know, WHAT is at real, deep stake here? HBO/HotD's reputation (S2 was mediocre, and I didn't like S1 but it certainly was just of shoddier quality than the last and people still loved it apparently) that they never really cared abt in the first place bc they know people will keep coming back for more? Or the justification for why they love ASoIaF?

Bc, again, if you really go by books =/= show, you'd be able to just enjoy the show for all of its flaws when they are presented to you as flaws OF when the AUTHOR OF THE ORG STORIES shares their opinion abt the work regardless! Why do you feel the need the label his actions as "unprofessional"

Why do you really care enough to try to argue the man--who said similar abt the separation of bk vs show atp--shouldn't give his two cents on the adaptation of his life's work? And esp if you argue that he doesn't have the obligation to give you more books/complete the series? So he's obligated to let us/you keep our blinders on abt the lore of his books, but not obligated to give us more books? Mayeb I'm missing something here.

Another thing, yes, he has been in the TV industry for long before ASoIaF; there have been some changes and he seems to stay back in ComicCons and writer's meetings. Still, if being "professional" means you need to shut up abt what you don't like abt an adaptation, point blank period, bc outstanding actors or non-responsible people will feel bad about it or the show will suffer or be your work is no longer yours to determine the meaning and themes of once you "sold" it...we're in serious trouble from self justifying capitalist interest.

Basically saying/dismissing fans' critiques for "I know what I'm doing" and "trust me, bro". How is this not "unprofessional" and actually, "Ryan is right? to tell bk readers to shove it"?!

GRRM's July inflammatory post mentioned Maelor [below] and how he'd talk abt that...Ryan's post above hasn't aged well.

And you can see that he already hinted at his writing a blog post abt his issues with B&C; how would he not add other stuff he felt strongly about?! This was a long time coming and some were genuinely surprised not at the strength of his language and his being so direct (that is actually surprising, considering how he said nothing abt how HBO did Dany, Catelyn, Jaime even, Tyrion, the Three Eyed Crow, magic in general, etc. dirty that I've seen) but that he dislikes or could dislike the show or aspects of it when they are so used to using his praises or exec seat as way to say the show is valid for MONTHS and now can't always feel comfortable using it.

And no, I don' think that many TikTok creators are being paid to say they loved the show. I watched and listened to many, and they genuinely love the show or certain aspects of it when they say so. Let's take them at their word. All the power to them, sometimes--as many current HotD fans of S2 have said--people just want to either see their favs onscreen and realized or they are there for messy-boots drama and "comedic", "unserious" entertainment (which is funny, bc HotD has served genuinely interesting and non-superficial tidbits here and there but what's aggravating is how they almost immediately tend to not develop or some fans refuse to get into really acknowledging the problems HotD creates with is storytelling decisions both out and in the universe [race, gender like how they wrote Rhaenyra's sons and the Velaryons or the women's....passiveness and dragging an inevitable war post-Lucerys or trying to maintain Rhaenicent]).

Slight vent/rant since I gen need to blow some steam off or wtv

I'm so fucking done with one of my best friends.(Let's just refer to her as K to not get confused) I love her so much but she's been pushing me to the limit for the past month.

For some context I used to mostly only talk to her and only her bc we got really close super fast, but recently I've gotten back in contact with one of my older friends and I've started talking to him a lot as well. And I'm not sure why, but K got distant after he commented on one of my videos on tiktok and I replied to him ofc. I noticed this really quickly, but she just became super dry and distant. So eventually I got tired of being the 'energetic' one since all she would reply with was : 'yeah', 'real', 'gn', 'mhm' etc.

So I started talking to her less, I still talked to her everyday but not as much.

After a while, she posted a video basically saying that everytime she gets a close to someone they eventually find a best friend and leave her. And in the caption she said "I know it's selfish but I just want someone to keep for myself'.

And tbh that pissed me off, because like I mentioned earlier, I used to only talk to her. But in that time she also talked to many other people, but apparently when I start talking to ONE OTHER FUCKING person it's not alright?? I don't understand this. I wanna talk to her about this but how do I even approach her abt this?? Istg I just wanna sob. I've communicated with her many times about some thoughts I've had but this one I just can't. I know we'll get even more distant if I do say anything. But it's so tiring since I'm basically stuck acting like everything when it's actually not.

A few days ago I posted a video saying "me after making every older person I know online my older sibing' and I tagged both of them. K asked who my online brother was and I told her that it was the other person tagged in the video. She then dm'ed me " omg... HIS NAME..." and said that she'll be keeping her eyes on him. What's your opinion on proshipping?

uuuuhhh idk really. So i'm gonna ramble for a second!

I'm aware of what proshipping actually means, something like ship and let other people ship, but things like tiktok and twt has kind of skewed my view on what proshippers are — which are weird noncon loving weirdos who like brothers kissing — but ik the rational side of my brain is telling me that what I just said is a fat generalisation. ofc some proshippers are like that, but ik most proshippers aren't and just dont care what other people do in fiction.

i do kiiiinnndddaaa believe that what you like in fiction does reflect your person in some way, since it does with me. for example, I consider myself to be very gentle and a hopeless romantic, and I project that onto the media I consume and create. but I have also written about some very harsh and dark topics in the past, just never in a way that glorifies or sexualises them.

I do believe that fiction does affect reality in certain scenarios... but I also know that some things are purely fantasy and it's fun to let go of morals and be gross and freaky (in a FICTIONAL SPACE!!!). but I don't think you're free from judgement from other people purely because what you do is fictional. If I found out that someone i followed on social media/or knew irl had a thing for noncon then I don't think I'd be able to look at them the same.

I wouldn't consider myself an anti (anymore) bcs they've grown a bit of a harsh name for themselves, but I certainly wouldn't consider myself a proshipper mostly because they have ALSO grown a harsh name for themselves and I've had very rough and weird experiences with them. I feel very strongly for fictional characters and their experiences, even if its a random oc that I see on my dash, and that in turn means that i cant really view fictional characters as little puppets in which we use to tell stories or project onto. idk whether it's because my imagination is vivid or something to do with autism, but it's hard for me to move on with my day after reading something abt my fav character being attracted to a child (even if it is technically canon... salad fingers...)

there have been times where I come across a darkfic, skim through it due to morbid fascination, and just regret it to the point that I feel myself physically restrain the need to type out my strong opinion furiously in the comments. but I know that no one forced me at gunpoint to read it and it was all my doing. I believe heavily in curating your own online experience, but have a hard time following that advice myself lololol.

and I think that's the problem with antis. they don't curate their online spaces enough and end up looking at the things that make them feel mad and weird. that was definitely my issue not too long ago and it just made my mental health terrible and life all dull and sad. but now that I've kinda realised that searching for the content that makes you upset and doomscrolling through it to the point it makes you seethe, and then venting about it isn't doing anyone good, I've instead channelled all that energy into finding people who share the same views as me and like what i like !!!! trust me, that is SOOO much more better.

but at the end of the day, I dont think I'll ever feel neutral about proshippers. If i see any terms like "proshipper" or "comshipper" or "anti-anti" I would feel that little ick in me, a hint of disgust... but I'll do my best to move on with my day !! people have the right to feel disgusted, grossed out, even sad about what proshippers do, they have the right to think of them as weird and strange because of proshippers liking what they like, and proshippers should expect that not everyone will feel how they feel. Especially since people who aren't in fandom spaces are sure to side eye you if they find out you post about twincest or dad x daughter relatiobships. but they do not have the right to go out of their way to bully and harass proshippers who are in their own little bubble with their own little audience, posting what they like. ofc you can vent about the things you don't like to people and on your socials, as long as you're not actively searching for it.

I have no idea if this sounds hypocritical or weird, I've read over it a few dozen times and I think I sound decently coherent. idk maybe someone wants to fill me in on some things, but I stand by my opinion.

hi! i have posted a few batcest fics but i was wondering if u had any tips on getting more involved with the community, mostly on twitter. i don't have a twitter acc dedicated to it yet but i follow some accs on my priv (yours included obviously) and the way people add onto threads and talk to eachoter abt it is really exciting. i'm nervous tho because i've never had an acc for something my irl friends aren't into and idk how to get mutuals or if it's okay to reply to tweets from people that don't follow you. i hope this made sense i'm just really scared abt reaching out to ppl

ive actually only been active on the batcest side of twitter for a few months (august was when i got more active and started following accounts)! before i got into batcest i didn't really go on twitter but so many talented people are on there and make such amazing tweets and au's i basically go on there once a day now haha 😄! that's probably because outside of places like discord there's really no concentrated communities or places to interact with people who like batcest in a way that feels more...active? on tumblr you can go weeks or days without every directly interacting with someone. tiktok is hostile to anyone with a brain plus it can show your videos to complete steangers outside of your intended audience which can be....yeah. instagram isnt bad but it would definitely be a weird way to interact. ive heard that facebook groups can be fun but how that pans out with 18+ content is...

from what i can tell most batcest accounts are pretty chill however i'm only speaking from the perspective of tim centric accounts. in terms of things such as "etiquette" there's only a few things most accounts do to sort of identify and differentiate each other.

- if you're following nsfw account or making nsfw tweets be sure to include that in your description whether that means having 'minors dni', 18+, 🔞, your age and an nsfw warning' it varies.

-you don't have to do this, in fact i don't even do it but it might make it easier to find mutuals, and that's to include your favorite ships in your bio as well! mentioning things like jaytim, jaydick, brutim, brudami, etc. a lot of batcest accounts have multiple ships that spread over different characters so them listing it makes it easier for people to see what they're about!

-inluding the link of your ao3/linking your twitter in your ao3 fics is a good way for people to follow your work! a lot of people might recognize your fics if they click on your ao3 fic and you can become mutuals like that!

in terms of how to interact with other accounts i get being nervous!! i definitely was when i first started posting my tim tweets!!! even now when i interact with mutuals i've been interacting with for a while I still get a little nervous sometimes!

but i do have some tips that I think have helped interact with others and keep it fun for everyone!❤️❤️❤️

- if a tweet talks about 2 specific characters or a specific ship and you really like the idea but don't care for the ship don't directly reply to the person saying something like "THIS but with x- instead would be so good!". i know wanting to give recognition for an idea is tempting but it's rude to try and change the intent of someone's tweet.

instead: you can make your own tweet and include something like "just saw someone on my tl talking about x-topic and now i can't stop thinking about y+z in that situation-" that way you're acknowledging the outside source but also not changing the tune of someone else's tweet

- if a lot of people on your timeline are all talking about the same idea and they're all coming out with their own spins and you have no idea who started it that's okay! twitter can be a bit of an echo chamber sometimes and no one's going to go through all their mutuals and find who tweeted what first. plus the very nature of art is that it often repeats itself.

if you want to join in: you can say something like "my tl is full of people about x and let me just say that-"

- emojis are your friend! i use them a lot because i have a hard time reading tone from text and think everyone else might too. when you're reading something it's hard to pick out whether someone is joking or saying something sarcastically without any indicators (ex. /joke /sarcasm at the end of a sentence, wrItInG LIkE tHiS tO MakE suRe someone knows they're being mocked/made fun of).

adding an emoji can really help change the tone of what you're saying making it sound less like you're stating a fact or making a demand or some other misinterpretation.

you can tell there's a few tonal differences between the statements which helps ease the slide of interaction (at least I think so!) by making it clear you're joking or being humorous.

- it's common to see people adding onto each other's threads and while you may be nervous about who is okay with it at first, the general rule of thumb is that on twitter anyone can add on to anyone's thread or respond whether you follow them or not (i don't think anyone will even notice who is following who) but if it does make you anxious you can click on their profile and look at their replies to see if they've replied to other people's threads or been replied to.

you can reply even if two people are already having a convo, you can just split off and start a new one! ive seen and had multiple split off convos with different people from the same original thread who all had different ideas or things to add on.

ultimately a lot of conversations on twitter are people prodding each other's brains for their shared interests and mutuals come about from people seeing that someone has similar interests and is talking about them and so follow because they also like that thing and would love to see more of people talking about that thing!!!

try following people who share a lot of your interests in terms of ships and characters.

mutuals may take a little while (in some cases ive done two scrolls of a person's account and immediatly followed them back without any interaction because we both clearly had the same interests) if you want exact steps of how that might happen you could start with

a. commenting on people's threads. telling them you loved it, reacting to it, sending emojis. etc.

b. send tweets about your thoughts, headcanons, aus, etc. don't feel discouraged if no one likes them yet you're just starting!

c. after you've gotten comfortable with commenting with an account you can start adding more to the interaction, adding on, proposing a direction for the tweet, etc.

these are just a few of the things ive learned and seen and nothing here is fully concrete either so if you feel more comfortable doing something else then feel free!!!

besides in the first conversation i ever had with one of my current mutuals i revealed to them that i'd secretly written an entire fic about one of their tweets even though we'd, until that point, never talked even once 😭

i guess what I'm trying to say is: go for it!! you never know, it might go a lot better than the worst case scenarios you may be thinking of!! ❤️❤️❤️

It's a disaster through and through. This is a long one so please hear me out.

If I wrote this shit in my exams I would get 0 points simply because of how this was structured, or rather how it wasn't. It is one block text, and while the topics are pretty divided I cannot see how it was written to be anything but provocation. Too many topics in one place, some that might have nothing to do with one another(the doxxing, I'll come back to this later.), and some that should not be put on public. (Quackity going no contact) One of my biggest pet peeves in online discourse is how texts are written with no rhyme or reason, just word vomit like in a Discord server's vent channel. Not to mention that this was an unfortunate time to post this.

The fire between the Usmp community and the Qsmp fandom was starting to die down, no one would have said shit if he kept the server the same as he planned because there was no way it was precisely the same. Sometimes people have the same idea at the same time. Happens, whatever. He didn't need to bring it up. Dream has stirred up drama that the communities have already started to put to rest.

In the post Dream also addresses the fact that he has been getting harassed, doxxed, and threatened. Of course, I feel sorry for him, and in that regard, I wish him and especially his family the best, but the fact that he mentions it in the same post he specifically speaks about Quackity and even mentions his name instead of just referring to the Qsmp can lead to connections that should not be made. Quackity had nothing to do with Dream getting harassed, he might not even have known, especially when he doesn't interact with Dream, and by extension maybe his content and comment sections, if he doesn't have to. We can debate if Quackity should have said something (in my opinion he should have) but it isn't his fault. In fact, I don't remember either of them speaking up about the other Dsmp members(or even their fanbases) being harassed. To make matters worse Dream talking about both topics in the same thread makes it seem like he's implying that Quackity is at fault for the attacks when there is no evidence that he is, no mentions of people wearing Quackity merch whatsoever. Quackity is not at fault, and chances are he might not even have known.

He also talks about how he tried to contact Quackity and Quackity didn't respond. This usually means the person who doesn't answer doesn't want to interact. The fact is we can't be 100% sure why, but everyone with connections to youtube, Tiktok, Twitter, or even Tumblr should know a good reason to go no contact with Dream. He is an alleged groomer. I know that we can't know for sure whether he's innocent or not, but that also means that Quackity has decided that he simply doesn't want to be friends with someone who might have directly harmed others. Furthermore, we don't know what either has said off-camera. Shit can happen. Even if nothing happened, I do not fault Quackity for not wanting to interact with Dream, an alleged groomer. I feel like many are forgetting or dismissing that fact and the number of allegations and drama Dream has on his track record.

I am with Quackity on this one. His crime was staying silent and out of someone else's life, he didn't openly communicate to hate Dream, but I don't think he wants to be friends either.

But one thing is that Quackity didn't stop talking to Dream after Dreams allegations. Just a while after Squid Craft they were still on stream together being good friends. And that was long after the allegations started. So there must have been another reason. Just an observation.

Of course Quackity is not at fault. Nobody can deny that. He surely did not know what was happening to Dreams family or Dream himself unless Dream specifically told him. Which I can't rlly see happening.

Hi! First of all I’d like to say how much I love your blog- it’s always the first one I come to when I log on. Also, feel free to ignore this message if it seems redundant or something, but I feel like maybe you could explain the reasoning for my feelings abt this?

So I’ve been a casual fan of 1D for a long time but in the start of the pandemic I become a really big fan of both 1D and all of the boys, and over the past 2 years I notice now that I feel almost disconnected from Harry - like if he isn’t performing on stage he just doesn’t interact with us at all- even his tweets seem like they are coming from someone else and his signature at the end of his posts/tweets seems disingenuous now if that makes sense? I completely understand his wanting to keep his personal life separate from his work life and to make time for other activities than his career, and not to compare him negativily to the other boys but I feel like they, especially Lou and Liam value the efforts the fans put in for stuff like fundraisers or when goals get met like with Lou’s livestream. I don’t know, maybe this is all incoherent but I often feel isolated almost compared to previous years with H.

Hi darling. I think this is a really complex topic and I don't think there's one answer for each person – you'd really have to dig into this for yourself. But I'll give you my thoughts.

Perhaps it's because I'm older than a lot of people in this fandom and I grew up in a time where we really didn't have 24/7 access to the celebrities we liked, but I just am not bothered by his lack of social media engagement. Would I like it if he did it? Yeah, for sure. He's hilarious and charming and I really liked getting a glimpse into him as a person. But I completely empathize with how fucking traumatizing it must have been for him to be so scrutinized and picked apart and criticized for so many years. The idea of feeling as though absolutely nothing about you was just yours, but that you owed all of it to your fans – but no matter how much you gave they always wanted more –  must have been really awful.

I don't think any of us can imagine what it's like to be one of the most famous people in the world and to have everyone making assumptions about you and telling stories about you for their own personal gain and to not really know who likes you for who you are vs who likes you for what you can do for them. I don't think any of us can really understand how what he's gone through has affected him and why he chooses to cope with it differently than the others. But that's how I see his lack of social media presence – it's a coping mechanism. And I just don't feel that my enjoyment of his tweets or my wanting his acknowledgement of anything I might do as a fan, trumps his mental health.

IMO, he's made it abundantly clear, over and over, how much he appreciates his fans and how much he knows he would't have the life he has without his fans. I don't need him to tweet every few weeks and check in on me. I don't need him to do a TikTok live to be make me feel like he cares. To me, personally, all of that means very little. It's fan service. It's nice. I would love to see him more, but I don't need it to continue being a fan. For me, he bares so much of himself in his music and in the way he talks about his music when he does interviews. That's how I feel connected to him. But if you need more interaction with someone, then maybe he's not the artist for you.

What I notice in my own life is that when I set boundaries and I don't do things that other people have been accustomed to me doing or no longer behave in ways that others have grown comfortable with me behaving, they don't like it. I am making them uncomfortable because their sense of what's "normal" is being disrupted and they're forced to change. I tend to look at the way many of Harry's fans react to his lack of social media presence in the same way. You (general you) want more of him, he doesn't feel comfortable giving more, you (general you) get angry and decide that he's become too good for us/distant/disconnected/fame-hungry [insert any complaint you want].

Do I think his team could do a better job? Sure. There could be a middle ground. But I tend to think that it would only look like connection and not actually be real. And my impression of Harry is that he'd rather give you 100% or nothing at all. So, for now, this is how he's dealing with that.

I don't know if any of that resonates for you, or makes you realize why you're feeling disconnected, but that's how I see the situation. Hope it's a bit helpful.

hi roswell i'm finally deciding to answer this after sitting on it for like 2 weeks bc i think this idea is very good and i wanna walk it out with you.

bc like. the setup of a first kiss for these two sounds like a Nightmare. just how does one give berdly enough confidence to even make those big of moves??? kris certainly isn't going to do anything abt it. not that they can't; they just simply don't want to. they know they like berdly, and they understand that there is a definite possibility that the feelings are reciprocated. but they're not rlly a...confession person. they'd rather sit with the feelings until it withered up within them or they died (though, with berdly, it seems like the latter is becoming the more likely outcome).

but i think it would happen and i think it would be very dumb and completely unexpected. they don't go on a date together--they're not even somewhere private for christ's sake, they're seated in the living room of berdly's house bc he needs to babysit his step-sister (aka make sure she doesn't die and isn't upset) and kris wants to play Babysitting Mama on the blintendo wii just to rub the salt in berdly's prideful wounds. so now berdly is sitting with this dumbass fake baby doll as he fails miserably to rock it to sleep, meanwhile kris is laughing under their breath like the evil little bastard they are, and robin (berdly's step-sister) is matching crying-frequencies with the fake baby on the television.

berdly gets so frustrated that he Does end up chucking the baby doll at the wall and hastily storming up to the wii to snap the game disc in half (he doesn't end up doing that bc Gamestop Resale Value, but he does very angrily place the cd back into its case). kris' laughter dies down bc they can see berdly is very much tilted, but it doesn't stop them from teasing him about being so "ungentle".

"i am plenty gentle!!!" berdly squawks back, crossing his arms as his feathers puff out (a deeply-ingrained intimidation tactic that all bird monsters do). "a-and the word isn't ungentle--it's just 'not gentle'." kris points out how his step-sister would probably disagree with that slightly, which is when berdly realizes robin is still very upset. so he sighs, quickly getting to his feet so he can walk over and pick her up out of her little playpen (she's like 2 or something. very young). as much as he outwardly loathes having to deal w her, berdly is very gentle as he bounces her in his grasp and mumbles soothing words to help her calm down.

kris watches this happen and feels a completely normal amount of completely-definitely-platonic fondness swell in their chest. berdly looks up at them and nods up the stairs, indicating that he's gonna try laying her down for a nap. kris decides to follow him bc they assume the two will move into berdly's room to play something else while she naps. they watch the bird monster carefully climb up the stairs, taking extra care to not jostle the young one around in his arms too much, and then follow behind. by the time kris makes it up there, the door across from berdly's room is open just a crack, so they approach the door carefully.

robin's room is simple and neat, but still full of things that a kid her age would love. the walls are painted a soft cream color, with some small paintings of clouds scattered across the open space. the ceiling is dotted with glow-in-the-dark stars, and kris spots a few of berdly's old plushies (they know they were berdly's bc most of them are old anime stuffed animals, like those cute lil ones tiktok kids destroy on my fyp) stacked in a corner of the room with a bunch of other toys. they watch berdly (with that same sticky warm fondness rising up their esophagus--are they sick or something?) lay his step-sister down in her crib, pressing a little birdie kiss on the crown of her head as he then clicks on the baby monitor. he turns around and spots kris, giving them a small wave (so unlike his usual greeting, which is loud and bold and full of false bravado).

kris feels like they're gonna throw up.

they don't, luckily, but the feeling doesn't go away as berdly slips out of the room and faces them. it feels like kris witnessed a switch be flipped from "on" to "off" in their friend--he looks tired but content, not really attempting to make himself look bigger or be superior. as much as he complains about having a baby sister, he's taken the role of big brother quite nicely. kris can't help but fall for that.

"do you want to play super smashing fighters or something?" berdly's voice is still a bit quiet (probably due to the pair's proximity to robin's room) and it does no favors for the warmth building in kris. they feel like they're going to explode if they don't do something. impulse control has never really been their strong suit, anyhow, (it's why them and susie are such good friends--enabler to enabler communication) and their usual no-emotions-necessary attitude is crumbling under the intense urge to do anything to rid themselves of this awful, wonderful feeling.

they manage to nod as their grip on sensibility loosens, and berdly smiles brightly (as best as he can with a beak, but kris has learned to pick up on other ways that show his happiness. like how he puffs his chest out, or how his eyes crinkle at the ends. or how a faint hum buzzes from the back of his throat and--jesus almighty what is wrong with them) and they finally snap when they're both standing in front of berdly's door, berdly facing away from kris as he opens the door and waits for kris to step inside.

this is when the misunderstanding happens.

you see, kris stands there too long. they're too busy staring at berdly and asking their brain you want me to do what now for them to even notice the door being opened. and, well, berdly's just trying to be polite! but when kris doesn't immediately step past him to enter, he gets confused. so he turns his head to ask kris if they're alright--

--just as kris leans forward to press a kiss to berdly's cheek.

and now they're kissing.

like, kissing kissing. not a cute lil peck on the check; no, this is full on mouth-to-beak contact. and neither of them really expected it, so when it happens they both freeze. their eyes are also both blown wide open, so they can watch the embarrassment rise on each other's faces. once berdly's brain kickstarts to life, he manages to pull away (more like "jerk his head back so fast he bangs it into the door and nearly collapses", but i digress). leaving the two to just...stare at each other.

an incredibly long pause follows the kiss. neither are sure what to say. should kris apologize? should they explain what they were intending to do? what can of worms would that open? meanwhile, berdly's brain is short-circuiting on the fact that--after fantasizing about making his move and wooing his human friend into falling in love with him, bestowing on them a wonderful first kiss in some grand display of affection--this was how their first kiss was. how his first kiss was! after a moment of playing any improvisers worst game: "Who Is Going To Initiate This Fucking Scene?" they both open their mouths in unison and squeak out:

"don't forget to like and subscribe!"

then they stare at each other, unable to believe that that also just happened, and immediately burst into laughter. it's enough of a breather that berdly doesn't feel too weird when kris finally moves around him to enter his room, their arms brushing past each other in a way that gives kris goosebumps and makes berdly's soul practically rattle around in his chest, and he just hopes he can keep his heartrate to a minimum during his intense gaming battle with his rival-to-friend-to-lover(...?).

i'm sorry it took a bit to respond to this you caught me having a bad mental health week and hating my npd specifically. But i think talking about it with a character i wholeheartedly adore would actually help. Also i love doing additional research on npd for Light because i read the articles and i just stare at it like looking into this weird cosmic mirror.

anyway, to get to the point. I've said what I think Light has and everything before, but i'll say it again: narcissistic personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, obsessive compulsive personality disorder (different from OCD, i have a post on it!), psychosis , and anxiety. I'm sure there's more that i would consider him having, like anti-social personality disorder which i dont have and have not done any research on so i cannot say if so, uh oh I know people also love Light being autistic alongside L. Honestly i really like that because it shows off different sides to autism, because you can be exactly like either and still be autistic.

but anyway, specifically with NPD, the general symptoms are a not caring about other's feelings/low to no empathy, sense of entitlement, not being able to take criticism at all, and wanting praise, recognition, and admiration at all times. Also with a majority of personality disorder, psychologists are not 100% how it's developed but most narcissists raise narcissists. My mother is a classic narcissist, and my dad hides his narcissistic traits better than her. However for Light, I don't think it was genetics but more-so environmental, but not to any fault of his parents.

Narcissists have a huge inflation of self worth, and coupled with a god complex, it can be overbearing. Light's "quick descent" into him being this all powerful god and him thinking he was CHOSEN for this job with the death note, him immediately going "im the only one that can do this" did not just come from no where when he picked up that notebook. L, the task force, near, etc never had that level of self importance and inflated view on themselves. Light had npd before he picked that notebook up. His disorder helped the curse of the notebook take hold much quicker and harder than everyone else, because Light was looking for a reason to be the person he thought he should be.

Also when I say "god complex", as opposed to what many people seem to believe it is not just believing you are god. or in tiktok users' cases, it does not mean you like to look at yourself in the mirror or you think you look good. A god complex is when you feel like you are owed something. The world, the universe, the people in your life, everything owes you something. you have an insatiable feeling of privilege. god complexes are an extenuation of narcissistic personality disorder. Also god complexes are not generally recognized as something to be diagnosed, lumping it in with narcissism. it's not recognized by the DSM it isnt a clinical term. An example of Light feeling this type of privilege is when he asks ryuk why he chose him. he was practically on his knees begging for Ryuk to say some grandiose thing about Light on why actual living God's chose him and only him for this 'job'

here for anyone still confused: A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility. A person with a god complex may refuse to admit the possibility of their error or failure, even in the face of irrefutable evidence, intractable problems or difficult or impossible tasks. The person is also highly dogmatic in their views, meaning the person speaks of their personal opinions as though they were unquestionably correct. Someone with a god complex may exhibit no regard for the conventions and demands of society, and may request special consideration or privileges. (source: wikipedia because again, not a recognized, diagnosable disorder)

also my favorite thing to point out about npd is how behind all of this intense self importance and self righteousness and blahblahblah, is that it's all delusional, and im sure you know that. but listen, narcissists are delusional because we have this deep and vicious hatred of ourselves and are so so insecure that (im explaining this incredibly simply) just starts creating delusions of "no you're not, you are in a world full of idiots. you are better than them all. no one is better than you" blahblahblah (this is why i hate those tiktok videos where it's literally just "telling" the viewer this type of stuff and pass it off as confidence boosters or whatever like no girl knock it off) anyway, that why when anything in Light's plan goes wrong he has an utter meltdown, he cannot handle criticism and in this moment his only critique is himself since no one else knows about kira and if they do, they praise him and see him as a higher being.

Do you mind explaining some of your thoughts on the cosplay post? I'm Asian too and have been thinking a lot about it. When you say white cosplayers need to listen to Asian voices, whose should they listen to? The Asians who are offended or the Asians who don't care? Is it not yellow face if cosplayers don't change their facial features but still wear black wigs like in those plays and movies? When does white people's access and comfort become more important than the Asian people who are uncomfortable? When does cosplay (attention, sometimes selling accessories, making money off YouTube revenue) become "profit" and therefore bad for white people to do in certain contexts vs good? Why are historically inaccurate cosplays less offensive than historically accurate ones?

hi nonny! i don't mind explaining my thoughts at all, altho i do want to be clear that these are just my opinions and how i view cosplay. but i think that these things are super important so here we go!

so yeah, what ur saying is totally right, and i honestly think it's a really fuzzy line between yellowface and just cosplay. personally, i think that so long as it's not purposefully offensive, and the cosplay isn't coming from someone who's looking to silence asians/mock asians, then it should be fine? it's not as if there aren't asian actors in china who are acting in plays such as shakespere, or others that take place in a primarily european background, or asian cosplayers playing white people.

ofc, it's different between having white people play asian characters and asian people playing white characters, because the system of oppression does come from white people taking things away from asian people. but my point is: i don't think we should gatekeep cosplaying if it's truly for an innocent purpose. i'm not going to stop cosplaying castiel, or peter parker, or dean winchester. who am i to stop white people from cosplaying wei wuxian or jiang yanli or whoever?

as for how far the cosplaying should go, in terms of simply wearing a wig or actually changing facial features using make up, my line of thought comes from how much people go to actually change their facial features with characters that are of their race. for the wigs, i just think that there's nothing inherently offensive about saying most asian people have dark/black hair? it's like this: gamora from gotg has red hair. therefore, many gamora cosplayers have a red wig. it's not offensive, it's just staying true to the character.

having black hair is not something that's used to target asian people, and it's not something meant to make fun of asian people. it's just a fact. therefore, if you're cosplaying an asian character, it makes sense if you have black hair.

on the other hand, for facial features, there is a long history of people making fun of asians for squinty or small eyes. it might not be true to everybody who's playing these asian characters, but it is often exaggerated, and turning people into caricatures of asian people. i just think that emulating and exaggerating facial features that have been used to mock asian people for their looks is maybe a step too far into yellowface. especially when the end result is something that doesn't even look real, and doesn't stay true to the characters.

as for the historically inaccurate clothing, i suppose i wasn't very clear in my last post abt this. all i mean, is that for historically inaccurate clothing, it is impossible to really do a lot of research into it. it might be a very complicated mix of styles from all different dynasties and time periods. i just don't think that it's very necessary? especially when a character isn't even from a specific time period like mdzs characters, and many chinese people view hanfu in a similar way europeans view victorian clothes.

also, when i say white cosplayers need to listen to asian voices, i mean, generally try to pay attention to what's being said? it's not about who's offended and who don't care -- if someone doesn't care, often, they wouldn't comment on the cosplay at all. i mean, if there's something extremely tone deaf, or something that squicks out asian people, the cosplayer does need to pay attention, and does need to understand.

it's kinda difficult in this situation, but even if i don't think that a white cosplayer is in the wrong for cosplaying an asian character, if an asian person is uncomfortable with a cosplay because they feel it's veering too close into yellowface, i'd still think the white person should take it down. on the other side, if an asian person is uncomfortable, i do think that it would be more beneficial to these types of conversations to explain why it makes them so uncomfortable, beyond just 'it's yellowface'.

now, as for profit, that's also something that honestly i'm not even sure about, and my own opinion changes from moment to moment. what i mean with profit, is in a major place like a hollywood movie, or something like that, shouldn't have a white person take an asian person's role. not only is it taking an asian person's place, it also just doesn't look right, especially when an asian person would play an asian character much better.

however, youtube/tiktok is a completely different story. i wouldn't go very far in supporting a white cosplayer playing asian characters, but i'm also not really comfortable with completely not letting them cosplay asian characters? same thing as above -- i cosplay characters that i like regardless of color, who am i to stop people from doing it? and for cosplaying on a social media site, even if it gives revenue for the cosplayer, it's very easy for someone to simply not watch the youtube/tiktok, and support actually asian people instead. idk. it's complicated, but i think that cosplay is completely different from actual movies and tv shows.

I prefer pan because of how it applies to my own gender identity; I am not a man or a woman so sometimes my own relationship to attraction feels complicated, in that I can be attracted to any gender and have no idea what that means in relation to my own. Is my attracted to men gay or straight? What about women? Who knows! I like it because it means I don’t have to define MY gender while clarifying that I’m attracted to all genders. I think a lot of people feel that way. I get that it’s a preference thing in terms of labels but still, it’s one I chose in reference to my own identity, not because I think it makes me better than someone who identifies as bisexual. And I’m really tired of seeing people act as though a niche subculture of hyperonline kids on tiktok is enough to justify speaking badly about all pansexual people as a group when really it’s a label that makes it easier for me to be comfy in my own gender…like honestly it makes me feel badly and a bit hurt 😔
