A/N: Another one of Gan's fantasies of what he could've done to Tan Qi in that cage (and outside of it). Inspired by the fact that in the original novel, Gan had a horsewhip and didn't hesitate to use it on people; it's what the Right Cavalry used for crowd control. Thus, he is quite adept at using it. And his belt. And his hands...

"Now, we're going to have some fun, you and I," Gan says, the silk tails of his cap bobbing; smirking, his eyes crinkled at the corners, his gaze glimmers black with evil. He wipes the drool from around Tan Qi's mouth with his gloved fingers and kisses her, slipping his tongue through the gag: he licks the roof of her mouth, tickling it, drinking in her helpless screams of terror.

"Why are you crying?" he asks, nuzzling her tears from her cheeks, rubbing his beard against them. "I haven't even hurt you yet," he laughs, like an adult who finds a child amusing.

He pushes four fingers in her mouth and presses down her tongue, tilting his head and frowning a little, inspecting her throat. "Yes... that's going to feel lovely around my cock," he murmurs. He chokes her with his fingers to give her a taste of what's to come, and to pleasure himself with the scent of wet leather; his nostrils flutter and his cock pulses sweetly as he slowly begins to stir into arousal.

With another sigh of delight, he hauls her up by the ropes, lifting her to her feet.

He opens the door of the cage and shoves her staggering out into the Chancellery courtyard, into the cold February night.

His men are standing in a circle around the courtyard, holding aloft torches and leering at her, taunting her and making lewd noises. She tries to escape into the garden, but even there, she is confronted by more cavalrymen swinging their torches, laughing and jeering at her: there's no way out.

She turns around, and the moment she sees what Gan is doing, her eyes widen in horror: she backs off, screaming for help through her gag, her spittle flying in the firelight.

For now, Gan lifts out his horsewhip: smiling sadistically, he strolls slowly towards her, running the tail of the whip through his left hand.

"Now, missy, we're going to play a little game." He snaps the whip taut between his hands. "Run!"

There's this sort of anthropomorphizing that inherently happens in language that really gets me sometimes. I'm still not over the terminology of "gravity assist," the technique where we launch satellites into the orbit of other planets so that we can build momentum via the astounding and literally astronomical strength of their gravitational forces, to "slingshot" them into the direction we need with a speed that we could never, ever, ever create ourselves. I mean, some of these slingshots easily get probes hurtling through space at tens of thousands of miles per hour. Wikipedia has a handy diagram of the Voyager 1 satellite doing such a thing.

"Gravity assist." "Slingshot." Of course, on a very basic and objective level, yes, we are taking advantage of forces generated by outside objects to specifically help in our goals. We're getting help from objects in the same way a river can power a mill. And of course we call it a "slingshot," because the motion is very similar (mentally at least; I can't be sure about the exact physics).

Plus, especially compared to the other sciences, the terminology for astrophysics is like, really straightforward. "Black hole?" Damn yeah it sure is. "Big bang?" It sure was. "Galactic cluster?" Buddy you're never gonna guess what this is. I think it's an effect of the fact that language is generally developed for life on earth and all the strange variances that happen on its surface, that applying it to something as alien and vast as space, general terms tend to suffice very well in a lot more places than, like... idk, botany.

But, like. "Gravity assist." I still can't get the notion out of my head that such language implies us receiving active help from our celestial neighbors. They come to our aid. We are working together. We are assisted. Jupiter and the other planets saw our little messengers coming from its pale blue molecular cousin, and we set up the physics just right, so that they could help us send them out to far stranger places than this, to tell us all about what they find out there.

We are assisted.

one of my favorite subtle implications in the series is that it seems the Titan Army was fully banking on Percy being the host of Kronos. Why else would they make their main base a cruise ship if their primary enemy is a son of Poseidon? Named after Andromeda, the wife of Perseus? Why would they work on Oceanus specifically being free so much? Side notably with other children of Poseidon? Why plant Zeus and Hades' items of power on Percy when Luke already had them? Why only Zeus and Hades' items, not Poseidon's? Well because they really need Percy as Kronos' host, that's why. (and Poseidon siding with them because of that would be a bonus as well)

I like to imagine Luke's cabin on the Princess Andromeda is fully decked out with like "WELCOME PERCY" and sea-themed sheets and everything and he hates it so much cause it's a constant reminder he failed and he was Kronos' second choice. Also then he gets his super special pegasus not even exactly stolen by Percy, but the pegasus willingly defects to be Percy's personal steed instead, which must just be insult to injury. Luke has immense one-sided beef with Percy and Percy has no idea.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
