I hope they weren't rude, that you still had fun, and that you learned something from it on how you want to proceed going forward with people requesting things from you.

I dont think people who approach me are shit or anything, it can be a little rude or disrespectful at times, but I boil that down to a few people. It's not the majority. Most people are nice and behave like they would if this had been in person.

I like drawing things, and it helps me fill my day with something.

Sure, It can be a little hurtful when people take advantage of that by just throwing a request/ptompt at me like they're putting paper into a copy machine, without consideration or empathy for me and my time.

Some people come in with the energy of "since you have the time you should do things for me, you're nobody without my attention, and if you don't appease me I'll be upset and think you're a selfish bum." Which is, yknow, unpleasant to put it mildly.

Like, sure, I've put myself here. I post things online, and I like when people are interested in my work - who wouldn't be? I do think it's fun to take prompts. It gives me cause to be social and creative at the same time. But just because I'm willing and open for something doesn't mean it gives people an allowance to be entitled to demand things. They speak as though they have paid me enough with their approach alone.

Yes, I spend between 10min-5hours on pieces depending on if they're doodles, fully rendered pieces, or comics.

I think it is especially a bit entitled to go "I NEED PART TWO GIMME!!!!!!" Right after something like a comic, as though I didn't just finish something that took a while to make. It's not very empathetic.

But I don't take it to heart. People show who they are in their actions. I'm within my right to ignore, block, or politely decline. It doesn't serve me to sulk or get sad over people getting mad, calling me names, or get too pushy about what I should or shouldn't draw.

I understand its excitement, but please behave, yknow? You're not a toddler at the toy isle who hasn't developed a temperament resistance yet. Some people, I think, have an issue with instant gratification.

Have some respect in how you treat and speak with people online. The way you treat others reflects who you are.

If you wouldn't yell at someone irl to make you something, don't do it here either. I promise it doesn't reflect well on you, and I don't care that this is online and we are time zones apart; I will judge you. As will others.

You don't treat people like that.

And I won't let anyone treat me like that either. I've had enough of that in my life, and I'm tired of people calling me gullible and dumb for being polite and kind or giving people a benefit of doubt.

What I have is self-respect. It has taken me a lifetime to build it up, and I still wobble a little on whatever or not I can defend myself sometimes when people are mean. But nowadays, I can more confidently say, "You don't get to treat me like that. It hurts, and it is mean."

If you are the sort to take advantage of someone who is willing to do things for the fun of it, and who don't mind the effort it takes sometimes: then you are most unwelcome here and I host no guilt in removing you however I see fit.

But, like I said, the majority of people who approach me are friendly and level-headed, even when they're awkward or excited.

There is a difference between; "I need X so give me X!! Raarghargh Im going to die!!!" And "aaaa! I really enjoyed Z, if you have the time, I'd love to see more of Z!"

wally x gn reader (pt.2)

Warning : ( grammar mistake , and first time writing a fanfic )

After you finally arrived at the picnic place you can see the others already arrive before you, you can see Wally with his canvas and other art tools that he bought, Frank brought his favorite book to read while Eddie sits next to him leaning against his shoulder, Barnaby bought his favorite chew toy, and poppy brought couple food for everyone else while sitting down just enjoying the view.

Wally takes a moment to look at you and smiles a bit and continues with his painting, out of curiosity you take a look at what Wally was painting you thought to yourself 'It's probably a beautiful view of the sunlight or the atmosphere everyone around here

You take a peek at what he's painting, it was a painting of a red flower, "A painting of The red chrysanthemum flower " wally stopped and sigh, the painting was finally finished.

"Oh my! I love your artwork ...gee, maybe you could teach me some painting lessons next time !" "Ha.ha.ha.. what a great idea neighbor! " "You know my cousin is also a great painter but he uses charcoal instead ..blah blah blah.." you went on and on talking about your cousin while Wally just enjoying hearing you talk

You pause and noticed wally staring at you , you realize that you've been talking for straight couple of minutes for none stop "ah- sorry did I talk too much? maybe I should stop now haha-" you scratch your head

"oh dearly no need to apologize for that, it's okay friend hearing you talk like that made me happy as you do while talking " "Ah..well thank you for saying that" You were relief, but still you were thinking about it

Wally looks at your frown face and think

"Here what don't you try painting dear?" he offers to sit next to him "Me? Painting? But I have a horrible skill of painting?? How am I going to do that?" "dear dear painting doesn't have to be perfect or beautiful, you do them for fun for me I quite enjoy them because they are relaxing for me, I heard it reduces stress and anxiety. Why don't you try it, neighbor ?" Wally looks at you with a smile while handing you one of his canvas and paint tools.

"Hmmm...I mean I guess. I could try" You sat down next to Wally and started painting something, Wally smiled and also started to doodle in his sketchbook.

A couple of hours has passed.

And you finished what you made, you sigh "Finished neighbor?" Wally asks you tense a bit "Ah yeah" "May I see it?" you look at Wally nervously "Why nooooooouuuh not yet" "C'mon on is not that bad right?" you look at Wally and sigh, and nervously hand out the canvas to wally.

"Hmmm... I think it's quite nice neighbor"

" Really? " you squint your eyes suspiciously at him

"yeah! It's a nice painting for a beginner I gotta say " he smiled

Sigh "Thanks"

"here" Wally hands out you a piece of paper, while you were painting he drew you

Your heart feels like been hit by an arrow. "OH-my thank you, Wally, I look adorable " You admire the little detail that Wally put in.

"you could keep it, just say this was a little gift from me to you" he smiled

You wanna scream and cry bc it was so sweet of him "I- thanks you so much wally" .

After for a moment you look back and saw everyone has taken a nap except frank was still reading his book. "Awww frank and Eddie looks so sweet under the tree ee couple goals frfr"you thought to yourself.

You decide to take a break and kay down. On the grass field , you point out to wally that could looking like barnaby running away from a big giant evil shoes you two giggle and then enjoy the quiet moments.

You close your eyes enjoying the sound of the wind and the grass movement, and some birds.

It was peaceful. You still feel like someone is staring at you, but You try to ignore it and Enjoy the moment...

Suddenly wally ask while looking up the sky

"hey neighbor did you fell asleep ?"

"..." You didn't answer

It was silence for a moment.

"you know somehow every day I see you, it seems I can't take my eyes off your neighbor , heh sounded weird huh.."

"...," no response from you, you were surprised and tried to hide it.

"..."

"feelings are weird " wally said

And then suddenly you could hear wally getting up and going somewhere? You still have your eyes close and wondering should I open them or not.

You heard footsteps coming back, and you could feel Wally has placed a flower next to your ear.

It was very silent after that, you feel like you needed to scream from embarrassment .

You thought to yourself should I open my eyes?nooooo?? maybe?? Uhhhhaahahahahaaaa- feel like I'm going crazy

You decided to open them and saw Wally was nowhere to be found.

You were confused and looked around and heard someone calling you.

"neighbor."

You look back and right front if your face was Wally's face, your lips made contact with his. You panic and move away fast from his face.

Your face was red as a tomato after that. WTFFF WAS THATT JSFC you scream inside.

"Were you awake?" he ask

"...yes?"

You feel like want to run away, you saw Julie behind wally back rooting for you both Julie was lips sync " don't run away y/n!!" "aren't you happy?"

Your heartbeat is even faster after she asks that , of course your happy .

"I..i uhhh.." your face was red

" yes" with a small voice you said

"what was that neighbor?" wally tilt his head

"yes, maybe we could go out sometime and plan something together after this to get each other know well"

It was Wally making happy noises while his face was red.

For reasons, I’m doodling a PF2e dwarven pirate druid from the Shackles on pathbuilder.

(These reasons are almost entirely related to the existence of the NPC Pirate Lord the Master of Gales, who won the Free Captain’s Regatta, the annual race-for-lordship among the pirates of the Shackles, for five years running owing to being a druid captain in a ship race, and only stopped winning because they made him the judge instead. I just love this. Being a druid in a ship race has to be basically cheating? Or, rather, natural advantage. But we’re pirates over here, so that fully tracks. I just love that this guy exists. Pirate druids. What an excellent concept. I’m stealing it immediately).

And, I don’t know how many of these are from the recent remaster and how many were original, but if you’re trying to play a piratical storm druid (could have gone wave, but given location and profession, I’m feeling storm more) from the pirate archipelago where they go racing annually in the outer reaches of the perpetual hurricane that is the Eye of Abendago, the primal spell list has some boss stuff on it. If you want a general stormy, nautical sort of theme.

Like, as I’m going through pathbuilder and levelling this dwarf up, picking my spells as I go, there are some fantastic things on there. I’ve no idea how good and/or practical they are in play, but the vibes are incredible.

Starting from cantrips, we’ve got things like Deep Breath (hold your breath for the duration, starting from 10mins at base), Rousing Splash (give someone temporary hit points by dumping a splash of cold water on their head to ‘invigorate’ them) and Slashing Gust (what it sounds like, you cut one to two people with blades of air).

And then as we climb spell levels, we get things like Horizon Thunder Sphere (throw ball lightning at someone), Brine Dragon’s Bile (a vicious little reaction spell where if someone takes slashing/piercing damage within range, you spit a gob of caustic salt water at them to scour their fresh wounds with salt, dealing persistent acid damage), Obscuring Mist (fog cloud, but on a nautical character fog cloud is always welcome), Voice on the Breeze (whisper a message and send it to a specific location you know within 10miles, where it’ll whisper in a 10ft burst regardless of who’s actually there), Scrying Ripples (watch people through bodies of flowing water within 500ft – does this work with the sea?), Coral Eruption (AOE that sends up razor sharp coral growths), Grasp of the Deep (grip someone with the ‘phantasmal pressure of the deep sea’, crushing them for bludgeoning damage), Misty Memory (summon memories in the mist of what a body of water witnessed within the last 24hrs), Mariner’s Curse (you afflict the target with the ‘curse of the roiling, unforgiving sea’, aka you make them seasick, is this a good use of a 5th level spell, IDK, but I’d do it, in a heartbeat), Hungry Depths (you open a miles-deep maelstrom of ‘dark corrupted water’, teeth and eyes that chews people up), and, for a 10th level capper, Summon Kaiju (very much what it says on the tin, I think I’d go either Agyra, the Forever Storm, or possibly Vorgozen, the Shapeless Feeder, for them, but most Agyra, because Eye of Abendego).

Like. If you want to be a vicious, vindictive pirate druid who shrouds themselves in mist to attack people, crushes their enemies with the phantom sensations of the deeps, whispers words in their allies’ (or enemies’) ears across miles of water, curses people with sea sickness when pissed off, wields all the myriad elemental wraths of the storm, and also on occasion likes to literally throw burning salt in their enemy’s wounds …

This is a thing you can do, basically. If you want a thematic spell list for a vicious salty sea dog, the primal list definitely has you covered.

I love Pathfinder spells. They’re so gnarly and descriptive and evocative. Also vicious. Literal salt in the wound. Good gods. Or neutral gods, I suppose, hi Besmara! And/or Gozreh. Heh.

Chapter two: Time

This one's rather easy to explain. That's why this chapter won't be that long as the previous one.

If you're an artist, busy with other things like work, school, family or friends related things, as well as other hobbies, you know how hard it can be to find time to draw. Especially if making a drawing or similar takes a lot of time and effort.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that just 10min of practice per day, can change your art and make you better. You most likely won't see any huge changes after doing this for only two or three days. But after a month? A year? I'm pretty sure you will. Meaning that you should try to dedicate 10-30min per day to doing just art and really focuse on it, if possible.

Advice:

Since many struggle with finding the time to practice, I'd recommend to do at least a few quick sketches and doodles per day. Since you can easily do them on the side or in just a few seconds to minutes with pretty much and kind of paper and pen. They don't have to be perfect, they don't have to be fully rendered, they don't have to be detailed or complicated, nor proportionally correct. All they're suppose to do is "keeping you in the rhythm".

Try to find a good balance between work/school, life, friends, family, other hobbies, art, etc. I know it's easier said than done, but it's not an impossible task, if you try to find some kind of rhythm or routine.

During the time you dedicate to your art, you should try not to distract yourself. Don't get me wrong, listening to music or watching a movie or show on the side can really help to spark your creativity. And it's totally alright to do so. I hate drawing in complete silence too. But maybe put your phone away and put it on "silence mode", or at least ignore all of those (social media) notifications. Reading them 10min later will prob not change anything, except that you finally found the time to draw.

Don't forget to take breaks. If you realize that you can't really focus on what you're drawing or you just get frustrated, it's ok to take a break. This break can last for minutes or hours, but also for weeks or even months. If you realize that doing art now only feels like another chore, pressuring you, you should always take some time off. Of course this won't be possible for all artists, especially those who do it as a full time job, but if you can, then do it. The only important thing is that you get back to drawing eventually, if getting better is still a goal you want to achieve.

You could also try to make some kind of "daily plan". Try to set yourself one goal at the time, planning when to do what, how much you want to do and maybe even what exactly to draw/work on. This way, you don't "waste" time having to search for something that you want to draw and you can immediately go to work. Try to achieve your daily goal. If you can't, work on it the next time. And if still have some time left, you can use it to start a new project.

That's all I could think abt when it comes to that point, but I'd love if you guys would add a few things or similar!

Don't try to do multiple huge projects at once. This will most likely lead to you being overwhelmed and feel even more pressured. Which is never a good thing when you're struggling with time limits. If you want to work on multiple projects at once, either work on many small and simple ones or one larger project and just a few smaller ones. Focusing mainly on the larger project.

He did horrible things in the past, gets sort of redeemed but still has a hard time regaining his family’s trust, the only one who usually gives him the time of day is Shea, but his days of ““greatness”“ aren’t over quite yet!!

Originally, Balthazar was my gf’s character but she gave me the okay to develop him and his story properly. I’m having lots of fun with it and wanted to share lol. On a day like any others, you entered the class for your first course of the week, which was geography and you saw as usual that your desk mate Hyunjin wasn’t here yet. Actually no one was coming early to that course, the teacher was mean and such a bad pedagogue, that everyone hated her. But as a bad habit you had, you didn’t like coming late so you and a few students were always the first to enter the class.

Hyunjin was your desk mate and a bad boy. Although not the one to look for troubles, more like the chill one with sometimes a cocky side. He was just living his life the way he wanted to with no one to tell him what to do. Of course, if you mess with him, he would make sure you know that it isn’t safe for you to do so, but in a nutshell, he wasn’t as bad as people was describing him, just independent.

The teacher came in the room at 8am and started her lesson. She gave us an exercise to do, linked to the previous lesson of Friday to see if we were learning them. Head in my book when I heard the door. Hyunjin opened it slowly and crawled to his desk, wishing the teacher didn’t hear him. She did.

“Hyunjin, late again…”, the professor said lazily like a mom scolding her child for the nth time in the day, looking from above her glasses, a sight escaping her lips.

He was running late as always, you never got the point of noticing it every time, Hyunjin didn’t care about being late or not, being there was enough for the school to let him be.

He took out at least some papers and pens to write with from his bag. He looked behind and in front of him to see what you all were doing, you saw he was lost and decided to help him. You never talked to him but today was the day.

“We’re doing this exercise about last Friday’s lesson…”, you whispered, pointing out the questions you were trying to answer on the book under your elbows. You headed to the exercise again when you feel him staring at you and at the book, when you understood that he didn’t have his book with him. So you put it between you two and you both started to work. At least that’s what you thought because he was just doodling on his paper. You tried to ignore him and continued studying.

Doing this exercise took the class almost the hour, when the teach decided to correct them but the school bell announced the end of the class. You packed your belongings and took the book who was laying between Hyunjin and you, but he had his elbow on it, so you pushed it when his head fell from it, you figured out that he fell asleep. You woke him up by shaking him.

“W-What?...”, he faltered half awake. He looked at you, not realising that the class has ended.

“It’s finished, the Geography study I mean…and you were sleeping on my book”, you answered trying to remember him where he actually slept. You were amazed by how much complacency he had.

“Oh, ok all the better then, I need to go now”, he put his paper full of doodles in his bag and left without even a ‘thank you’ or a ‘sorry’. You watched him left, astonished and speechless.

The other classes of the day were quite boring, but it was okay. You saw Hyunjin three to four times since then, once chatting with his friends at the end of the room, once sleeping again or just laughing. He has one of the prettiest smile you ever saw, ‘eye smile’ precisely and that was cute, for one minute you just wondered how it would feel like to be the one making him smile.

You were a bit day dreaming about him in the cafeteria, when your friend pushed you because she laughed too hard. She was literally crying.

“YA! What the heck is going on?”, you asked coming back to reality.

“Sofia was telling me about how her mom found out about his aunt fucking the neighbour, but you were so busy looking at Hyunjin that you didn’t hear it!”, she replied poking your cheek.

“I wasn’t-”, you suddenly wondered if it was that obvious and maybe it was.

“No need to explain yourself y/n, I mean he’s looking good, he’s tall, he has nice hair, he has plump lips and we can’t see it, but girl let me tell you, that boy is build under these clothes, I’m sure! And don’t get me wrong but he has that 90’s vibe and girls are falling for that”, she said.

You never were that observant about him and his features, but she was right, he has a nice frame. You started thinking about what can possibly be hiding under his shirt but that wasn’t safe at all, so you just stopped there and decided to leave to go to the last class of the day: PE.

“Girls, I’m going to the gymnasium now! See you tomorrow!”, you left with your plate, throwing the dishes in the bin and then putting it in the box next to the main entry.

“See you y/n, go see that perverted teacher!”, Sofia said laughing.

You decided to go to the toilet before doing any physical activities. When you entered the girl bathroom you heard muffled noises, like moans and whispers. You got closer to the sound and you saw Hyunjin and a girl making out, you dropped your book and Hyunjin turned his head to the sound.

“Oh my fucking god, I’m leaving, sorry for disturbing!”, you apologised looking at Hyunjin and running out of the toilet, heart pounding fast in your chest. You went directly in the locker room to put on your sport outfit.

Unfortunately, Hyunjin was in the same PE class as you, he had a basketball shirt with a pair of shorts on, where you could see his legs and arms flexing with every movements. Now that you see him making out, you cannot forget it, not like you didn’t try, but he was looking hot with his messy hair.

At the end of the class, the teacher gathered us to talk about a meeting your class would have against the other school, at the end of the year for both groups, girls and boys. When he finished, you walked back to the locker room, the boys were taking their shirts off and you didn’t miss Hyunjin doing it because you had your eyes locked on him. He had abs, the full eight pack.

You didn’t realise he was walking toward you until he snapped his fingers in front of your face. You looked at him bewildered.

“You left that earlier!”, he said handing you the book who felt from your arms in the toilet.

“O-Oh, thank you…”, you took it and started walking back in the room when he grabbed your wrist.

“And next time, knocked at the door before entering”, Hyunjin advised you. You went red when thinking back about it.

“There won’t be next time, ok I’m sorry”, you deeply atoned.

“Who said there won’t be a next time?”, he asked you with a smirk on his face, dropping your wrist and going to the locker room, leaving you stunned.

Finally, the end of the day has come. The night has fallen, and you were heading to the bus stop. You sat down on the bench and you stretched your sore muscles. You looked at the time, in 10min the bus will be here, so you just closed your eyes. You started coughing when you smelt an unpleasant smell, like smoke, someone was smoking near you and you didn’t like that. That person should at least go a little further away to respect you.

You looked in front of you, behind you, nothing so you looked at your left and you saw him. Hyunjin. He had his shoulder against the bus stop, his head up, looking at the sky, smoking. Oh gosh, how you hated when people were smoking that poison.

“You shouldn’t be smoking!”, you said louder than normal so he could hear you. He turned his head to that voice he heard, and he saw you.

“You again, my…hum desk mate, right? The girl who entered the toilet without even knocking right again? Mind your own business would you”, he answered bitter. Smoking again and even more just to make you piss.

“Yes, it’s me! First you shouldn’t have gone to the girl’s toilet and second, I have a name, that you should know by now since I’m your desk mate since September!”, you replied irritated.

“Ok! So, tell me your name baby…”, he asked you shamelessly. You were taken back by the nickname he gave you.

“…y/n”, you responded coyly.

“Ok so y/n, tell me why I shouldn’t be smoking, when I absolutely have the right to do so!”

“It’s bad for your health”, you said back, trying to not choke on the smoke.

“Why would you care my health actually?”, he asked sitting next to you on purpose, he was just being a brat.

“You know what, you’re right, I don’t care but at least respect people and be as far as possible from them when you smoke for fuck sake”, you coughed waving your hand in front of your face.

You were getting on his nerves honestly. He threw his cigarette away and squished it on the ground. You got up and backed up against glass of the bus station and put your hand above your mouth. You don’t know why you weren’t leaving.

“What if I don’t?”, he said looking up at you.

“What?”, you were a bit puzzled by his question.

He got up, got closer to you, took off your hand from over your mouth and put his hand above your head. Hyunjin was towering you. He took your chin up and made you look into his eyes.

“What if I don’t want to be as far as possible from people, what would you do, y/n…?”, he asked daring you to answer something.

You blushed, you felt his body heat, his breath fanning over your skin. You wanted to push him away but your body refused to respond. He looked at you for a moment, his eyes flying across your lips and let you free so you could breathe.

“So quiet suddenly…, here’s your bus I guess, see you tomorrow y/n!”, he left without saying more. You took two minutes to think about what just happened, did he think about…kissing you?

The next days everything were same: studies and PE and you almost never saw Hyunjin. The few times you saw him, he was staring at you and when you had class with him, he didn’t sit next to you.

That Friday, you didn’t have class with Hyunjin, so you barely saw him across the corridor or at the cafeteria again. You couldn’t really look at him because every time you were doing so, he was looking back at you, and he wouldn’t left you. So, you tried your best not to stare at him, not for too long at least. He was making you feel…things with his stare and you weren’t used to that feeling.

As the days have passed you may have developed things for him, you can’t figure out what it was yet, but you knew something has changed since that Monday night.

You went out in the park next to the school after you ate to get some fresh air and you saw Hyunjin lying against a tree, smoking again, his eyes closed. You got closer and kneeled in front of him.

“Smoking again I see, you didn’t listen to me”, you said as he opened his eyes because he felt someone beside him.

“y/n…, no I didn’t. I don’t see why I would have though”, he replied laughing as he watched you sighed.

“Maybe because for once, something really care about you…”, you tried to answer without blushing too much.

Hyunjin watched the details of your face closely, trying to figure out why you were there in front of him, looking for his smoking habit he took one year ago when everything went wrong in his life. And maybe for the first time ever he was thinking about tomorrow. So, he tried.

“Then make me stop?”, he challenged you, pulling you closer looking at your face, into your eyes, the curves of your lips and the shape of your nose.

“H-How?”, you asked. Your heart was beating faster than usual, he was so close, you could see his long eye lashes, his beautiful shiny eyes and how plump his lips were this close.

“Kiss me?”. You swallowed hard and you had difficulties to breathe. He asked you to…kiss him? He was waiting for you, would you dare? Why didn’t he kiss you first? You had so many questions left unanswered.

Hyunjin thought for one minute that you wouldn’t kiss him, but you did. You pressed your lips against his, they were soft and as plump as you thought they were. Hyunjin put his hands around your waist and brought you on his lap, one hand behind your head to put more pressure into the kiss.

The kiss started to get heated, he asked for entrance with his tongue, lightly biting on your bottom lip, you whimpered, and you let him in. You were fighting for dominance, but he was winning whatever you were trying to do. Your hand travelled his upper body and to land on his chest, where you felt his abs. He let you breathe to go down on your neck, while his hand went on your upper thigh, he sucked on the skin below your ear.

“H-Hyunjin…, p-please…”, you panted hard. You felt him getting aroused, but he stopped before going too far that quickly and in the park. You hugged him recovering from your make out session and he hugged you back. He left a sweet kiss on your cheek and looked at your flushed face. His hair was messy, so you brushed it back to normal.

“We just kissed and you make me go crazy y/n…”, he said his face hidden in the crook of your neck, leaving feather kisses that make you giggled because it was sensitive area.

“Now stop smoking ok? Please Hyunjin…I’m down to try everything to make you stop”, you begged, pleading him with your eyes.

“I promise I will start smoking less and then I’ll stop but… I need your help baby, so…”, he waited for your approval.

“Yes? Tell me Hyunjin”. He stared at the hickey he just did and asked you.

•she’s the type to stay up trying to finish her art really really late into the night, just because she doesn’t like it when her art takes more than one day to complete- that does vary depending on how big and small it is, and how complex her artwork would be

•makes really small sculptures when she can’t sleep, or make pieces that are going to a bigger work- it distracts her from whatever is keeping her up

•usually draws before she builds, if she doesn’t know how something is gonna be put together, expect copious amounts of thumbnails or even finished illustrations to figure it out

Muriel:

•sculpting is his favorite thing to do- where he carves out of various mediums or if it’s clay, he builds it

•despite always sculpting, he has a sketchbook filled with various forms of still life. animals, the woods, even people. surprisingly really good at gouache and watercolors

•the favorite part of his works is the time put into them, not the outcome of them, as long as he’s busy, he’s at ease

•going back to to the various mediums part, he’s able to carve out of ANYTHING, give him time 

•his hands are dirty constantly- especially when he works with clay. he’s completely alright with the mess, prefers his hands being dirty sometimes- when he looks down it fills him with a sense of calmness may or may not have consumed whatever he was carving out of by accident

•he and Asra have art sessions where neither speak for hours and just sit/stand and create

•the longer it takes for him to complete a piece, the more content he is, tbh

•digital artist- the only time she uses paper is when she can’t use her laptop, or if it’s something she’s just Got to jot down (although when she has severe art block she sits with her brother and idly doodles with one of his pencils and scraps of paper)

•muted pastel colors, neon fucked the 80s, or black/white/gray- THERE’S NO IN BETWEEN

Hello ! I’ve been wanting to start drawing but to really learn. Do you have any tips ? How did you start drawing? I love your art !! 💕

Hello friend!! So sorry for the delay, I’ve been p busy and also was a little shook that anyone would ask ME for art advice??? bc tbh i’m hardly at that level yet LOL but also maybe it’s a good thing you asked me bc BOY have I struggled and BOY am i struggling now!!  putting this under a cut bc i tend to ramble

So one thing I won’t say is “JuST pRActICE” which is what a lot of tumblr artists say and that irks me even though it’s true and valid advice it’s just…not that helpful. At least for me. Another thing I won’t say is “I popped out of the womb with a pencil in hand!!” because I can’t relate. Being from a pretty conservative Asian family/country kinda suppressed what desire to pursue art, even as a hobby, in me as a kid. I started learning how to draw in sophomore year in high school because I got REALLY fucking obsessed with One Piece LMAO. I lived and breathed OP, I was watching dozens of eps a day at one point. That one tumblr post that was like “the best way to get better at drawing is to become obsessed with something and draw it a million times”? Probably the most solid advice I’ve come across. Anyway, that obsession led me to wanting to create fanart for the first time (that was my starting point for wanting to become an artist, which eventually led me into stop motion, thanks One Piece)! I did start attempting to draw the characters right away, but I also started watching a bunch of youtube videos and using figure drawing sites to practice anatomy. I’d recommend starting off with learning anatomy! Learn the proportions of the face and body, it’ll help a TON. but you’ll have to learn how to enjoy the process of studying bc there’s so much studying to be done if you want to learn how to draw. Other tips (that helped me personally): 

-don’t aim to finish a drawing 100%. By that I mean skip rendering the details, it’ll slow down your improvement. try to aim for 60 or 70%. also, some may disagree with me on this but try to avoid using color at all when you’re starting out! you may get overwhelmed and it’s fact that drawing and knowledge of values are far more important. i’ve heard a professor compare color to icing on a cake: it makes the cake pretty but why would that matter at all if the cake base tastes like crap??

- don’t doodle mindlessly. a tip i hear often is to doodle lots and lots but…i don’t think it helped me improve at all. you need reference, something to compare your drawings to so you can throughly analyze how to improve them. nearly every single artist i know, including myself, uses reference for their drawings. it’s ok to doodle to jot down ideas and stuff, just not for learning. 

 - draw from life as much as possible!! it’s more helpful than drawing from photos or art because translating from 3d to 2d really trains your brain by forcing it to analyze more. also, photos tend to be distorted and alter reality. copying/referencing art can be helpful but only if they’re master paintings (sargent, monet, etc.) IMO. please don’t copy from tumblr artists, even for practice LOL. try to avoid their tutorials as well if you’re a beginner you probably won’t be aware of the mistakes they make, and unwittingly incorporate them into your drawing habits. there’s tons of art book PDFs out there, they’re your best bet! 

- carry a sketchbook around and just draw as much as possible. use your free time to draw from life. make it a habit. the more you draw the more you’ll add to your muscle memory and visual dictionary

- find out what interests you about the world, and incorporate those interests into your art! is it the way clothing falls across the body or the way light casts shadows? do you have a particular interest for teeth or hands?? i think hands are quite amazing 

- idk if i’ll be able to explain this clearly but whether you’re drawing comics or making “aesthetic” work, CONCEPT will always be more important than how your art looks! by concept i mean idea, message, etc. The clarity of your message is also important! it needs to be readable

- don’t blame your tools for your lack of skill. when i was starting out i wasted so much time researching and accumulating a bunch of art supplies that i didn’t even use, thinking that better tools would increase the quality of my art. the only tools i needed turned out to be pencils, pens, some watercolors and later, a basic tablet. award-winning films have been made with iPhones alone.

- lastly…JUST DO IT. technical skills are important but what’s even more important is your passion and desire to create. what’s holding you back? fear of being judged? that’s dumb! the best art-related quote i’ve heard is by andy warhol:

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”

isn’t that beautiful? this changed my whole outlook on making art! i mean, you won’t ever be able to make art that appeals to everyone but you sure can make art that some people will like! there’s an audience for everything! so don’t be needlessly burdened by what you think others think of your art and make art for you and you only. one thing that i did that i deeply deeply regret is quitting drawing for 2 years up until this past summer, and that’s only because i didn’t think i’d ever be good enough at drawing. so i just gave up. it makes me so sad because even if i drew for just 10min a day i could’ve improved so much in those years! please don’t do what i did

- some helpful websites/youtube channels: schoolism (the best and most affordable online art class i’ve come across, $35 a month but they have legit instructors from disney, pixar etc.) Line-of-action (for figure drawing) croquis cafe (more figure drawing bc you can never do enough) sycra (youtuber who makes tutorials, one of the few that trust completely. i especially like his video on iterative drawing) 

man that was long! but there’s so much to talk about still! btw it’s admirable that you want to learn a new skill! i believe that if you truly want something to be better at something, you will, 100%. if you ever have more questions, feel free to shoot me a message, my inbox/DMs are always open, even if i might take a while to get to it :)

Holy macaroni, March has ended!

So as per usual, recapping my life for my future self.

1st Mar 2021 One of my ways of picking myself up is by buying myself flowers.

Do I sense an episode coming? Or am I just hormonal? It’s too early to tell. It’s 10mins past midnight as Im typing this and I feel like something is missing.

2nd March 2021 Surprisingly mellow day. Heard some tea from work :( Distracted and calmed myself down by photoshopping this foto we took on my birthday back in Jan lol

3rd March 2021 Had significant progress on the deck that I was supposed to be done with, 2 weeks ago. Also impulsively ordered cookies from twili......

4th March 2021 J’s birthday! & not to blow my own trumpet BUT I actually love this foto I took of him lol:

Earlier today I played chauffeur for my Dad to and fro UMMC. So thankful. Next month when Im finally back to WFO, I wont have this much excess time with my folks again 😢

5th March 2021 Some work mishap enabled me to only start working after lunchtime. Dentist day. COD my shoes to my carousell buyer afterwards. Received cookies I ordered 2 days ago. Delicious but fat and tomorrow is my weigh-in :(

6th Mar 2021 Hospital. Managed to not gain from my previous visit. Grabbed groceries while waiting for Mars to finish class & we bumped into Naqi! 💙 Lunch was fatbirdramen 😋 I spent my night doodling & trying to sell myself to illustrate for Y’s book! My last commission for a book was for TJ how many years ago.. Im praying this will turn out well 😅

7th Mar 2021 Stayed home because I felt my mood going down so I wouldnt want to ruin it for others through my forced socializing. So stoked that Ocean’s 11, 12 AND Thirteen are now on Netflix! 

I love the team! Cant decide whether my favourite is “the mormon twins”, Basher, Rusty or Rueben? Or maybe even Danny himself!

8th Mar 2021 Finished my very first drawing with my apple pencil 😊

Im not sure how it looks like on other people’s eyes but I personally love it primarily because it was a fun experience 😊😊

However as usual I do not gain as much traction on my instagram anymore. Id be lying if I say Im not sad about it, because I am. I use instagram to share my story to broader people because a) I dont have that many friends in the first place so I can’t be bugging these same few friends all the time otherwise they’d be annoyed 😅 hence instagram to dump my stories and doodles in; and b) Because of point a), I quite enjoy making new friends albeit online. BUT due to the new algorithm, no traction = no engagement from my online buds ☹️

9th Mar 2021 I ordered taco from some random taco place I found while searching for “taco” on Grab and realised it’s Taco Tuesday!

10th Mar 2021 Im still on my Kings of Leon binge.. I am obsessed. They make me feel young and hopeful, just like how I felt back in uni, when everything was easy. Roads felt wider. I was carefree. 

11th Mar 2021 I can’t recall what happened :(

12th Mar 2021 My work email was acting up all morning so couldn't get jackshit done. Left for lunch at teppan which tasted “healthier” due to lack of MSG (I assumed). Came back to 90 emails in my inbox 🤯 so as soon as I clocked out I went out again for my usual gtl & whitebox because I deserved it! Spent my night browsing for handbags that can fit my ipad..

13th Mar 2021 Hospital follow up from last week. Lost a kg 😊 We went to Gardens for lunch and I sort of accidentally bought a bag 😳 It ticks off my important criteria of fitting the ipad 😊 BUT I still feel a bit guilty about dropping a significant sum even though Ive worked hard for it ☹️

14th Mar 2021 Met up with DLN! Always nice to see the face you used to always see every other weekend, again 😊 

15th Mar 2021 Succumbed to fever 🤒 So I just spent my Monday taking it easy. Received the cookies that I ordered from twili (again!) but this time I also ordered for J which I plan to deliver via goget tomorrow!

16th Mar 2021 Packed up the care package for J’s belated birthday 🥳 Runner was late, but he drove fast enought to reach J’s place at the end of the world in less than 30 minutes 😳 I wished I had taken a picture of the care package, it was really fun to do!

17th Mar 2021 I think few days ago I sent my first draft to Y for her book and I am currently progressing on the next chapter. Praying so hard she actually likes it and not just take it because she has paid a deposit for it 😩

18th Mar 2021 Slept really late because was trying to be as free as possible since I will be on leave tomorrow.

19th Mar 2021 Wasted my off day on a work call that lasted all morning ☹️ Was late to COD my dress to my carousell buyer. Brought my office laptop out with me so I can work while I lunch.

OU was quite empty and it never fails to make me feel 16 again. Unfortunately the shop I meant to go to for my Mom’s handbag had shut down ages ago when I asked the concierge where it was 😔 As soon as I got home, I immediately ordered the bag online.

20th Mar 2021 Happy birthday to Nadow 😊 & happy birthday to my bionic self! I had my scoliosis corrective surgery more than 10 years ago and until now it’s one of the best memories in my life.

22nd Mar 2021 So the bag that I ordered for Mom arrived, UNFORTUNATELY she finds it too big. I knew my first choice (which she eschewed in a flash) was the actual RIGHT choice for her, which kind of made me proud with the fact that I know her taste better than she knows her own taste 😂. But it’s still a very good looking, sturdy bag:

(Mom and I have a weakness for croc-effect bags lol). I did think about keeping this for myself but I already bought a bag last week! 

23rd Mar 2021 Budget meeting. Later that night my brother came back with bulletproof coffee which was apt because I had to get more work done.

I crashed at 130am which in my opinion isn’t that bad. I honestly thought the coffee would keep me up all night.

24th Mar 2021 Woke up to a very annoying email reply from his highness. & Im not sure if it’s placebo effect or not but Id like to think that last night’s bulletproof coffee gave me more energy today. 🤔

25th Mar 2021 Thanks to Sephora sale, total of the skin stuff I bought did not feel as daunting. 20% sounds little but it’s actually quite significant. 

26th Mar 2021 Off day! Also our budget meeting next Monday is canceled 🎉 Spent the day with @nevermind-doesntmatter​ ! Finally put the birthday gift card I received from my brother & spent them on office shirts & a pair of cord pants which I was initially very excited about until I tried them on at home and it’s SUPER high waisted (my rib cage does not bode well with it ☹️). Other highlight of the day was my parcel from Espanyol arrived 🎉 It’s the other new bag for Mom!

27th Mar 2021 After a year+, Mom finally got to dress up & go for kenduri today & she used the new bag so it was perfect timing that it arrived yesterday 🥰 Lunched & coffee at copper pot.

28th Mar 2021 Errands Sunday. Sent my carousold, dropped off old clothes at the clothes bin, got my matcha & HH suggested we go visit afiq @ movement. I love afiq’s coffee but since I was still sipping on my matcha, I had to forego his fix.

Also today made me look at the calendar and...

..I still have no idea what I plan to do with my life. I also dont think I have achieved anything since the past 3 months 😕

My dad used to be in the army and we lived several places. When we lived in Cyprus we used to visit the old ruins and amphitheatre and there were loads of lizards that used to hide in the cracks of the old buildings. I decided I wanted one of them to take home so I grabbed hold of its tail, but it was stuck and I kept pulling and pulling and eventually the tail actually came off of the lizard! Immediately I started crying.

One Christmas 9also when we lived in Cyprus actually) I wanted snow on the Christmas tree, but we didn't have fake snow, so I decided to use my mum's expensive face cream and smothered the tree in cream. 

The same Christmas, me and my brother woke up before my mum and dad and decided to “sneak” into the front room to open the presents. When we got to the front room door, the handle had been taken off the door and closed, so we decided to go around the back door, which was also locked. Then tried looking through the windows but they had put bin bags all over the windows and drawn the curtains. We went back in and decided to sit my the front room door until they woke up, but we fell asleep and they found us asleep by the door on the floor.

My mum and I are close (even though she annoys the hell out of me) But me and my dad not really because he left when I was young. We still always saw him, but it sometimes feels like I don't know him properly...IDK....

Nothing...because real friends and family support you no matter what.

Finish my degree, get a job, buy my own house, get married and have children

Seeing new things, trying new food, living!

Same as above - maybe invest half of it and buy a new house and treats for my closest

It was an awful nightmare - about my brother and mum being murdered in front of me

The woods - because it's peaceful

You need to make a decision for yourself. Never be pressurised into it. It may be a tough one to start with and it will probably make you cry for years and years to come. But somewhere it was the right decision for you.
