Design round ups for the week!

Obi is getting a revamped magical girl phantom fusion form with Riddle's Phantom. I decided it needed to be more Obi so I mixed in more elements of a jester into the design. And of course the guy gets a big hammer to smash things with. I bet he says stuff like "It's time for you to lose your head!" and then bashes you with the hammer. (I likely wont make any finished pieces with the phantom fusion designs it's mainly for fun and for lore)

Obi can fuse with the phantoms depending on their relationships with him. Each one gives certain added abilities. However, these forms are unstable. The longer Obi maintains these fusions the greater risk he is at losing himself in them. (Imagine he's fighting an overblot and his face starts to melt) The phantoms all have different relationships with Obi and have differing perspectives on it.

OOf, I want to draw Obi fighting malleus so bad, switching between fusions to the point where he loses track of them. And starts mutating. (the body horror! the angst!!)

Next up is my very traumatized son Tenjin. He's getting a less goofy hairstyle now. And I'm thinking of making him more of a short king. He's still built like a brick shithouse that can fuck you up. But he might not be as tall as you would expect. (Nothing is set in stone yet, but I do enjoy characters who take up the room without needing to be physically the biggest)

In the interest of keeping my ideas in a place I'm gonna monologue some of Tenjin's lore here.

Early childhood: Tenjin grew up with a parent who was definitely not equipped to take care of a child. Due to his parent's narcissistic tendencies, Tenjin was often neglected and put down. His involvement in gangs led him to find a dangerous but sought after sense of community and safety.

He holds himself in very low esteem and has internalized very rigid power dynamics. Tenjin believes that there are only two kinds of people in the world: those who were meant to lead and those who are meant to follow. He believes himself to be a follower, the muscle for most people.

Tenjin initially did not want to go to NRC. But when his acceptance was discovered by his parent, they flipped out. Tenjin and his parent had a big fight that resulted in his facial scar. (I'm not going to go into too much detail on what went down here) After being practically kicked out and with nowhere else to go, Tenjin begrudgingly goes to NRC.

(hehehehe.... can you imagine how bad this is going to get before it gets better? Let me tell you, its only down hill from here for a bit.)

What is your opinion on Hermione and Helen relationship?

Complicated? lol

No, but... ok, it's like this for me;

Many of the (often early) sources that say anything about the moment Helen leaves Sparta generally cast it as, well, leaving/abandoning, and Hermione is always mentioned, whether first among the little list of what Helen is leaving behind. Helen herself in the Iliad says "I left/abandoned", and in, for example, Sappho 16, the case gets doubly stated with an additional "with no thought for her parents and child" (paraphrasing lightly); the Bibliotheke again goes with pointing out that she (helped to) packed the ship and left her daughter.

Now, obviously it's not strange that this should be something emphasized in the source texts; a (married) woman's greatest function and task were her children. A (married) woman (apparently or explicitly) willingly abandoning her child/ren in any way would be among the worst things she could do (aside from/alongside, well. sleeping with someone not her husband).

With that in mind, that's how I like to engage with Helen and her relationship with both the idea of children/her daughter, and Hermione as a real, living person who Helen has a relationship with.

The contrast and conflict inherent in Helen willing to abandon her two figurative and literal "most important" elements to her position as a married woman; her children and her husband.

So, it's more interesting to me to have a Helen who maybe isn't all that happy or excited about pregnancy, who doesn't like being pregnant. Who was maybe happy it took time for her to even become pregnant. (Since, for example, the Catalogue of Women casts Hermione as an unexpected child.)

A Helen who hopes the birth of the actual child will be a revelation... and then it isn't.

Does she love her daughter? Of course. But perhaps more as an idea than what the reality of an infant is. So it takes time for her to bond with her, and maybe it just never becomes easy, which would be difficult when you're then failing in something that is supposed to be your "ultimate purpose and function".

For my own ficverse, I ignored the majority version of Hermione being nine when Helen leaves Sparta, so my version of Helen there is still hoping a more grown up Hermione than her toddler-age self would let her bond more with her daughter. A Hermione that's nine poses a slightly different situation.

And then, of course, there's the whole question of Helen's return; she's been away from her daughter for 18-28 years at that point. 18 if we axe Helen's words in the Iliad and the timeline the Bibliotheke paints up, 28 if we don't. Whether Hermione was a toddler or nine when Helen left, Helen has, either way, missed her daughter's whole childhood.

Can they rebuild/remake something out of this, especially when Hermione leaves for Phthia two-three years after Helen and Menelaos comes home to Sparta? Do they want to? Do just one of them want to? Is it Hermione, is it Helen, who has been regretting and missing Hermione, yet struggled to bond with her before she left and now has to face the possibility they never might have any real relationship, as they "should", being mother and daughter?

... I guess my opinion is you can do a lot with their relationship, but to me it's more interesting if it's allowed to be complicated via Helen having Complicated Feelings about Being a Mother.

After seeing the release of HSR and UBW crossover event I have quite an unpopular opinion (that's why I'm voicing it here lol) that it would be more suitable if instead of Saber they took Gilgamesh and I'm not saying that because I'm bias to his character or that I'm Gil's fan but because it just makes more sense because in UBW Gilgamesh was like the main mastermind and antagonist in the story and he's literally Shirou's counterpart and he's Shirou's natural enemy while Archer is like a manifestation of Shirou's choices, regrets and etc. So those two are like key figures in UBW storyline.

And I'm not saying that Saber is not important when it comes to Shirou's character, she is but she had her key role in Stay Night while in UBW she was mostly on the sidelines.
