tragic heroes
he sees it in the way you look at him, at the way you see passed all his bravado, all his helpless insecurities, hidden behind a firm exterior, or an easy smile, or a wink and a kiss to the cameras.
the first time you ask if he’s tired, he almost breaks down.
“exhausted,” he says, finally admitting it to himself, letting the height of his body curl in on itself till he’s sure he could fit comfortably in your arms and stay there.
“shh…” you tell him, “it’s okay…”
“everyone gets tired sometimes, even superheros like you,” you say, reaching for him, pulling him into you, into your chest, holding him like a breath, carrying him in your arms as though that’s where he’s always belonged.
“i’m not a superhero,” he says, his voice small and tight and terribly different from the way it usually is.
“of course you are,” you say, pulling back to look at him, to cup his cheeks between your hands like water in a stand storm, like something beautiful, something precious and perfect — something made so by it’s mere existence.
and when he tries to shake his head, to open his mouth and tell you how wrong you are, you shut him up with a kiss. you kiss him so hard and so deep that for a moment, he can’t remember a time when he wasn’t kissing you. you kiss him hard enough to bruise, hard enough to forget.
when you finally pull away, he looks down to find you smiling and he leans down to kiss you back like acceptance, like pain and knowing and remembering.
“you’ll always be my hero.”

the ultimate act of futility it is to argue about the rightness or wrongess of the jedi and their world view only through a watsonian lens with in-universe information, without taking into consideration the doylist perspective that this is fundamentally a cosmology constructed by a guy whose self-described religious views are those of a 'buddhist methodist' who was hopped up on campbell. friends we are never going to get something entirely coherent out of this b/c what went into it wasn't either and that's fine, that tension is probably part of what makes the franchise so enduringly interesting, please stop tearing each other apart I'm so tired

I am begging Disney to stop doing stuff like this with their live action remakes.
So what you mean is you’ve changed the themes and beats of the story so that it’s no longer recognizable as that story. Gotcha.

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Badhai Do (2022)
(Title translates to “Give the Good News”)
(The two main characters hiding in a closet, from a promotional poster.)
Badhaai Do is an Indian comedy movie about a gay police officer and a lesbian sports teacher, who get married in hopes of getting their families to stop nagging them about being single. Hijinks ensue, as they both pursue their own romantic relationships on the side, try to keep up the semblance of a good couple, and need to find an explanation about why after a year, they still don’t have any children.
It is a funny movie, that is clearly made with the aim to humanize queer people and champion equal rights, which it is really good at. It also has a very realistic feeling to it. I have no doubt that many queer people have lived, and are still living, this exact same life. It is especially nice that, all in all, it is a happy story. We as a community do tend to have a slight tendency to assume that the only way of being happy is to be 100% out, which is why we really need more stories like this or The Blue Caftan (2022), where gay people in more traditional societies live perfectly happy and fulfilled lives.
Badhaai Do is available on Netflix.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

21st century contemporary folk music is such a mystery. i could list like 50 different 21st century folk artists who ive listened to or heard of and the only ones with any real like mission are the folk punk people. the 20th century revival was extremely heavy on ideology (contemporary bits) or actual traditional folk stuff. what even is folk music these days. pop music but with added mysticism? where are we & what is going on. and along that train of thought why isnt there a uniform. if a majority of contemporary folk could become political we would totally get a uniform

Please share all your Jopping thoughts! I am now exceedingly curious.
L;AKSDJF;LASDKJFL;SDAKJF ANON I LOVE YOUUUUU
i dont remember if i kept this in my maximalist kpop post or not but i had wrote a whole section about how the concept of superm as a group is maximalism and everything that they did is probably the purest form of kpop performance spectacle that we've seen in the last several years. kpop has always been about taking random americanisms and extrapolating them into a weird and altogether new conglomorate of cultural hybrid bizarreness and superm ramps that up to 100 (pun intended). the disparate visual western touchstones (cars/motorsports, cowboys, big tech + machines, superheros, military, collegiate gear) all crammed together with choreo that goes extremely hard for no reason, stupid and cringe (complimentary) english lyrics, completely over the top studio set pieces, and all done by a group that's literally assembled from defining groups of the last three generations, from the company that pioneered the industry? how can it be anything except the pinnacle of modern kpop? people can make the arguments all they want that sm was attempting to pander to the west in the vein of bts, but what those people miss is that superm was never totally westernized in the way that bts has been in their recent endeavours. superm maintains a sense of koreanness throughout not only their music (promoting i can't stand the rain on the ellen show along with jopping, none of their title songs being fully in english) but also visually with tiger inside, which has become their most popular song second to jopping. sm was very careful not to sacrifice the threads of what makes kpop korean with superm, and that's what makes everything about what they were doing work.

Don't worry!!! I know it was about American Fundamentalism, but I'm simply SO SO SO SO tired of people throwing all that shit at CHRISTIANITY as a whole when it's this very specific form. ;)
Same as "Christians are all homophobic" - nah, dude, that's totally UNCHRISTIAN. ;) Says so in the new testament. You cannot be Christian and hate on other people. And the verses from the Old Testament (or the thora) are nowadays interpreted in the specific historical and social context. As far as I know, there are Jewish folks who interpret them similarly, with organisations like Kheshet, etc.
All fine!! ❤️❤️
No, but you do have a point. We're so used to hating on American fundamentalism, that we forget it's not the norm. You're correct for not wanting to be lumped together with those people.
And yes, there are many Jews who interpret the torah similarly. For example, it's only male homosexuality that's mentioned in the "old testament". Lesbians, and transgender people aren't mentioned at all, and thus aren't forbidden (also, Judaism has (what seems to be from my perspective) a more complicated relationship with the idea of predeterminism. So the idea of "this is the body god meant for you to have" doesn't catch quite as hard as in many christian communities).
There are also people who believe the "shall not lie with another man" (paraphrasing) refers more specifically to the practice of male prostitution other nearby cultures had. But to be honest, this one is more controversial, and there doesn't seem to be one agreed upon interpretation to the verse.
That being said, while there are many Jews who are LGBT+ allies, and see allyship as a part of their Judaism (yes, even in orthodox communities), I have to acknowledge There is still a lot of homophobia in Jewish communities. I'm not willing to let us completely off the hook yet!

“The Other Side” (Touchstarved OC Rewrite)
So I made a parody of "The Other Side" from The Greatest Showman with my Touchstarved Hound OC, Alon. Here, she's trying to partner up with Mhin to — as thieves are wont to do — pull off a Senobium caper, but it takes a bit of back and forth with someone who's so used to being on their own.
Alon: Right here, right now, I put the offer out.
I don't wanna chase you down but I know you see it.
We form a team and we will find the key
To all the answers we both know we’re seekin'.
So trade that tragical for somethin' magical (Mhin: Tragical’s not a word.)
And if it's crazy, live a little crazy!
You can try the same old schtick and hope that something finally clicks.
Or change the game and schtick with me…
Alon: Don't you wanna get away
From this Lowtown part you gotta play?
Then I got what you need, so come with me, we’ll pull a heist!
It’ll take you to the other side!
'Cause you can do like you do or you can run with me.
Stay in the dark or you finally take a leap.
Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly!
We’ll get us to the other side!
Mhin: Okay, my friend, you want to count me in.
Well, I hate to tell you but it just won't happen.
So thanks, but no. I think I'm good to go.
‘Cause I quite like the dark you say I'm trapped in.
I’ll say it’s bold of you, this crazy plot you brewed.
That nerve is something, really, it's something.
But I work best alone, and your plan sounds like a joke at most —
We can’t afford to play the fools.
Mhin: Don't you know that I'm okay
With this Lowtown part I have to play?
'Cause I take what I need and I don't need a ride-or-die.
I will take myself to the other side.
So go and do as you do. Run off and leave me be.
No need for change, you can go on and keep your key.
Oh, damn, can't you see I'm doing fine?
I don’t need your help to save my life.
Alon: Now is this really how you plan to get past those gates?
‘Nother vine, ‘nother try to carry all of the weight?
Mhin: If I join up with you,
Someone is bound to get hurt.
We could die, be confined, try choosing which one is worse!
Alon: Or we could finally win a little, finally breathe a little.
We could take back our freedom to dream
And it’ll clear a path to cure our achin'.
Take our curses, start 'em breakin'.
Now that's a change that seems worth embracin’!
But I guess I'll leave that up to you…?
Mhin: …Fine, you’ve intrigued me, but my services are costly.
So how much actual coin would you be offering?
Alon: Fair enough, you want insurance for the action.
Seven gold, come on, let’s shake and make it happen!
Mhin: I wasn't born this morning, eighteen would be just fine.
Alon: Ack! Why not just ditch the heist and try to bribe your way inside?
Mhin: Fifteen.
Alon: I'd do eight!
Mhin: Twelve.
Alon: Maybe nine.
Mhin: Ten.
Both: Don't you wanna get away
To a whole new part you're gonna play?
Then I got what you need, so come with me, we’ll take the ride
To the other side!
So you can do like you do or you can run with me.
Forget the gates 'cause we’re going to take the leap!
Oh, damn, suddenly we're free to fly.
We're going to the other side!
Mhin: So if you do like I do (Alon: To the other side)
So if you do like me (Alon: We're goin' to the other side)
Both: 'Cause if we do, we're going to the other side.
We're going to the other side!

Ran out of answer spaces but! I felt it was important to split off Team Plasma since there is a significant ideological difference between them (as far as I remember each ideation of Team Rocket has the same goals/beliefs, Giovanni himself just stepped down and changed his mind)
That said! This is less about favorite gen and more about believing in the beliefs -- especially interesting to consider if you align with the Main Villain and their outlook, or if you believe in the so-called "cause" that may or may not be true, or have some truth to it (like, if you wanted to help Pokemon like og Plasma and Aether Foundation).
Sorry to lump Yell and Star together, I was going chronologically!! You'll have to specify which and why in the tags haha (if you want to that is!)
And honestly that goes for any choice, sell it to me. Why should I join Your team?
