very funny (irritating) to me that everyone whined and yelled about stupid rainbow capitalism and how performative wokeness/allyship is a net bad we should all refuse to support and now like.
tumblr is doing nothing for pride and target isn't selling much (if any) of their pride collection offline except at certain stores (in democratic areas, basically) and build a bear has a much tinier collection than normal and all the actual pride stuff is on their "adult" website (not sure if it's in stores, but pride = adult is a hell of a message)
there are genuinely good criticisms for performative allyship in all its applications. it shouldn't be the only thing we expect from people and companies. but if all the shit I see being called performative stopped tomorrow then in terms of the LGBTQ+ community especially we just. wouldn't talk about queerness or queer issues or celebrate pride or do anything.
open your fucking eyes. we are very close politically to having gay marriage rolled back. now companies are basically being let off the hook to even make a miniscule effort (which matters to the people who don't have access to any other kind of support in their communities! which normalizes the community in public spaces!) because the only reaction they have gotten over the last few years are negative ones from BOTH sides.
we are so entrenched in discourse at all times for the sake of our OWN performance of who is the wokest and who is REALLY an ally or a good community member that we have basically handed over all the work of activists of the last several decades to the other side because we'd rather scream at each other over fucking chicken restaurants and shit than the real life backsliding that's happening.
and this goes for other shit too. feminism, poc rights, all of it.
also. trans rights aren't discourse and aren't just culture war arguments. in case any terfs think they can spin this to be antitrans.

The doctors were happy for the business and are now facing lawsuits.
By Seamus Othot August 13, 2024
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has become the first major American medical association to express opposition to the controversial view that surgical interventions are appropriate for minors diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
The news emerged in a new report from Manhattan Institute fellow and pediatric gender medicine expert Leor Sapir.
Sapir revealed that ASPS, which represents the vast majority plastic surgeons in the U.S., has broken with the U.S. official medical consensus of support for transgender medicine for minors.
“The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, an organization representing 92% of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the U.S., becomes the first major medical association to break from the consensus over “gender-affirming care” for minors,” said Sapir on X.
Tumblr media
Sapir reached out to the ASPS for comment last month, soliciting their opinion on the leaked internal documents from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which sets the guidelines for transgender care for minors in the U.S., showing that the organization consistently violated medical ethics and based its medical recommendations on a forged consensus.
Sapir found that the ASPS does not accept the guidelines from either WPATH or any other organization on transgender medicine for minors and recognized that there is no clear evidence that transgender surgeries provide any long-term benefits to minors.
The rebuke to the WPATH standards is significant because, in many states, including Maine, Medicaid reimbursement practices have been crafted according to WPATH recommendations.
The organization also acknowledged that the evidence provided in favor of transgender medicine for minors is “low evidence” and “low quality.”
ASPS stopped short of condemning transgender procedures and medication for minors, but its refusal to accept the existing, extremely permissive rules shows that the U.S. medical establishment is less united in support of child genital mutilation than WPATH or supporters of radical gender ideology wish to claim.
Sapir believes that the ASPS is likely working to provide its own guidelines for its members, some of whom have faced lawsuits from detransitioners who received surgeries as minors that they now regret.
One plastic surgeon at Kaiser Permanente faces a lawsuit from a girl on whom he performed a double mastectomy when she was only 13.
Despite ASPS’s dissent, the U.S. remains one of the most extremely permissive countries in the world for transgender medicine, where minors are routinely able to receive double mastectomies, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones, and in some cases, genital mutilating surgeries.
Recently, Europe has begun to step away from transgender medicine for minors.
Even the U.K., which is controlled by the far-left Labour Party, has decided to stop almost all use of puberty blockers for minors after studies revealed that the drugs cause permanent harm to bone development.

Tumblr pet peeve 27: the people who apparently spend so little time in reality that they think the main appeal of fake leather is that it's vegan and not that real leather is fucking expensive. Seriously when's the last time you bought something made out of real leather? That shit costs so much money.

To list all the characters DC never reprinted would require me to sit here all day, but I can start a basic list: We should probably get all the Superman stuff from the 40s, 50s and 60s. We should get all the Captain Marvel stuff from Fawcett Comics reprinted. We should get the 40s Plastic Man stuff reprinted. All the 40s Green Lantern stuff. All the Justice Society characters stuff, honestly. Maybe even give us all the Green Arrow stories from the 40s to the 60s. Plus Johnny Quick and Ibis the Invincible and these other obscure 40s and 50s characters.
But even after we cover them, we have some great silver age comics too. Metamorpho. The Metal Men. Even thing like Sugar and Spike, if we want to reprint that fun old comedy series. Because DC had almost way too many comics, and we need to do something with them. We can't consign them to the scrap heap forever. That's just a waste of those old writers and artists, who put their hearts into their work!

I think end game for Tim is getting to push a withered husk of a geriatric Bruce around in a wheel chair, while he himself still miraculously looks barely 20.

when I was a small child (5-6 years old) I was terrified of police because I thought they would send me to jail for something I didn't do, or trick me into doing something wrong without me realizing and send me to jail for that. my family all reassured me that cops only send bad people to jail, and they dont trick people. imagine my betrayal upon growing up and finding out that cops do in fact, much more often than is altogether reasonable, send people to jail for things they didn't do and things they got tricked into doing
