After weeks of recovery, you were finally allowed to sleep in your own room. Though, to your surprise, all of your belongings were moved from your room at the SHIELD base to one inside the compound. The thought of being in another foreign place instead of the comfort of your familiar bedroom was almost as bad as knowing a team of agents had gone through all of your private things.
You were brought up to a room on the third floor. It wasn’t completely on purpose, but it had just so worked out that floor two housed the males on the team, and floor three had the females, which was just Wanda and Natasha, and now you. Nat wanted to keep you close during your recovery and introduction to the team. She also felt it was fitting for you to be close to Wanda if she was meant to be your mentor.
Nat made sure to show you around the entire floor as she introduced you to your new room, “I’m sure you’re tired so I won’t stay, but if you need anything I’m right down the hall, and Wanda is right next door,” she assured.
“Thanks, Nat,” you said genuinely, thankful for everything she’s done for you throughout this experience. She was the best friend you had and she always earned that position with the way she cared for you. The two of you were soulmates in a way that sometimes, only friends can be.
Once you were left alone in your room, you quickly realized how tired you truly were. It was late in the afternoon by this point and you had a long day as doctors came in and out to give you dismissal plans and best practices. While it wasn’t your typical bedtime yet, you decided that you’d rather get rest now so that you could have a full day back to the real world tomorrow.
As you moved around the room to get ready for bed, you appreciated the effort of whoever transported your things. It was clear that they attempted to put everything as closely as possible back to the way it was in your previous living arrangements. The room was a different layout so it was impossible to be exact, but you could tell that they put care in settling you in.
Even in the new environment, it felt nice to go through your nightly routine again. It really made the moment when you finally sunk down into the fresh sheets that much cozier. You put on some sitcoms from the 2000s, but you knew you’d fall asleep before it was over. The television was loud enough to understand with captions and soft enough to allow you to drift off to sleep as you wished.
About a week goes by as Nat familiarizes you with all of the amenities and protocols to get you adjusted as a permanent resident of the compound, and when she’s busy, she has Wanda take over. You notice that your tiredness isn’t improving at all. You’ve always been known for being chill and easygoing, and you always felt tired in some way, that was just normal for you. Since the incident, though, your exhaustion has felt like it’s grown tenfold. The doctors expected that you’d be nearing full recovery by 2 weeks, but you felt something must be off track.
By the end of the week; you’re getting sick of being babied, and even though you haven't fully recovered you think you might just go crazy without some fresh air. You didn’t make your way down to the kitchen for breakfast until almost 11:30am, where Wanda was already preparing lunch.
“Got a full night’s sleep?” Wanda sarcastically pondered aloud as you tiredly shuffled through the cabinets for some ceral.
“Doesn’t feel like it,” you grogily answered as you added milk to your frosted flakes.
“Maybe you should go back to bed then,” Wanda suggested
As if the suggestion alone gave you a burst of energy, you sprung back, “Oh no. I am done laying around like a potato! I am not spending a single solitary second in my room until I get outside for some fresh air.” there was a beat of silence once you finished your short rant, as if Wanda felt like you needed a breather after your small outburst.
“Alright- Well we can go out back and work on controlling your powers,” she offered once the silence ran its course.
“Yes! Perfect!” you confirmed as you took the first bite of your cereal.
Once Wanda finished up her lunch, she sat across from you to eat in mostly silence. It was a comfortable silence though, the crunch of your cereal breaking it ever so slightly. The two of you sat there and scrolled on your phones until your food was finished. You thoroughly cleaned your plate while you waited for Wanda to finish up her meal.
Even though you were quite familiar with the compound, visiting Nat often. You had no idea what surrounded the area. Adversely, Wanda spent a lot of time exploring the terrain that the compound sat within, especially when she was first adjusting to her new home. She explored to take her mind off of the events that led her to reside at the compound and forget about the clinical aesthetic that lacked any personality or comfort. It gave her an outlet that felt like an escape from reality.
“Where are we going?” You felt like she was leading you to some secret secluded area where no one could hear you scream, and in a way, she was.
“To work on your control,” that wasn’t the answer you were looking for. So you did what you do best, offer a snarky response.
You huffed, “That’s exactly what someone would say before leading me to certain torture, where no one can hear me scream,” you said with a dramatic undertone.
She looked back at you, slightly chuckling, “If I wanted to torture you, I wouldn’t drag you all the way out here to do it,” she bit back confidently with a sly smile creeping up, giving you a shiver down your spine that you blamed on the wind.
The spot that she settled at overlooked a mountain in the distance with a river flowing between the perch where the two of you stood. By the lookout, there was a long log makeshift to act as a bench, which Wanda frequently used to sit and ponder her thoughts and feelings. No one else really knew this spot existed other than her, she never spoke about it or showed anyone else until now. She wasn’t too keen on showing you her sacred getaway spot, but it was the safest place she could think of to practice your powers.
You gushed over the gorgeous area as soon as the overlook became clear and revealed its true beauty. The trees became more sparse as you walked, and the view opened up for you showcasing the natural landscape, “Wow, this is- it’s beautiful out here. I never knew this spot existed.”
“Yeah, no one does and I’d like to keep it that way,” Wanda said pointedly, ensuring that you weren’t going to start blabbing about it to the entire compound. If Tony got wind of it, surely he’d start building infrastructure around it and Wanda would lose her favorite spot.
Your hands shot up in defense, “Of course, I won’t tell a soul,” you confirmed.
Wanda, with an unamused look in your direction, “Not even Natasha.”
“Oh. Yeah, uh. Well, glad you clarified. Not even Natasha. Where should we tell them we are?” You asked, trying to come up with a story now because you aren’t very good at lying or even withholding information from your best friend, especially if you have to think it up on the spot.
“They won’t ask.”
Unfortunately for you, even if she doesn't ask, chances are high that you’d offer up the information accidentally anyway. You needed to come up with a cover story now to get it out of the way so that you dont have to come up with an explanation on the spot, “Well, what if they do? I just feel like we should be on the same page here.” you pushed.
“Y/N, it’s not that deep. Just say that we went to the other side of the compound grounds. See the river here?” you nodded, shifting your focus to the flowing water, “It spills into a massive lake on the other side of the compound.”
You acknowledged her explanation and with that, you were able to carry on with whatever Wanda had planned for you. She didn't have a particularly thought-out plan in place, but she had an outline of the steps she figured you would need to go through to grasp control of your abilities.
In order to help you, she needed to know what she was working with and how much power you truly wielded. After plenty of hesitation from you and coaxing from her, you outstretched your arm toward the mountain, “Go on, give it everything you’ve got,” Wanda encouraged.
Try as you might, nothing happened. Your muscles tensed as you attempted to make something happen, but you were stood there looking like a fool, “It’s- nothing’s happening!” you grunted as you let your arm fall back down to your side in frustration.
Wanda couldn’t help but chuckle, “Wow, finally something you’re not perfect at on the first try.” she claimed.
This hit a bit of a soft spot for you, “Contrary to popular belief, Maximoff, I’m rarely good at anything on my first try. I spent countless hours of practice and training to be where I am today.”
“Try again then” Wanda responded plainly, not fully convinced of the pity card you were playing.
You outstretched your arm again, trying to make something happen, but nothing did. Frustration began taking over and you tried again, with all your might you were trying to make something, anything, happen.
Wanda saw the way you became aggravated and quickly put a stop to it when she noticed your face getting red. Even though she enjoyed watching you struggle, she was nervous the effort you were putting in could become a hazard if you suddenly released the right type of energy.
“Ok, that’s enough. Take a breather,” she said as she reached out to put your hand back at your side and gently rubbed your arm in a soothing motion to calm you down. You took a breath, gathering yourself back together.
“Let’s try this,” Wanda started as she captured your gaze, “Close your eyes,” she waited for you to follow suit, but you hesitated, afraid of the vulnerability, “come on. Just do it,” she pushed, and you starkly fell into line. Wanda couldn’t help but smile at the way you jolted to follow her command.
“Good,” she approved, which brought that same tingle to your body from earlier. You’re not sure that you’ve ever heard praise leave her mouth directed your way. The redhead reached out with a featherlike touch and glided her pointer finger along your arm, “Now take a deep breath and focus on this feeling,” she moved from your left arm to the top of your neck, dragging down the middle of your back. It felt like your skin was on fire at this point, every small touch reverberating 10-fold across your body. “Feel how the energy in your body moves.” She practically whispered in a hushed tone.
You could feel it, everything was so sensitive. You weren’t sure if it was because you were actually paying attention to the way the air met your skin, or because of the way Wanda was gliding her fingers across, “Do you feel that?” Wanda questioned, barely audible so as to not break your concentration, causing you to slowly nod in confirmation as you continued to breathe slowly.
Removing her fingers from your skin, Wanda took a step back from you, “Now keep that same focus and raise your left arm out in front of you.” You did as you were told, slowly raising your arm and letting it hang until she gave further instruction, “Perfect, now shift that focus to your left hand. Don’t pay attention to anything else,” she stated firmly, “just my words and the feeling of energy flowing to your hand”
She could tell you were concentrating hard by the way your brow furrowed ever so slightly. “Now, imagine the energy flowing from the tips of your fingers. Concentrate everything to your hand and imagine it pushing out.”
You did as she said, and you were so focused on the feeling in your hand that any minuscule movement felt similar to a creaky floorboard. Soon enough, your hand started to tingle and you even felt the temperature begin to rise.
“That’s it, now push it through, get rid of it.” Wanda guided. You could feel the energy slowly reverberating from your hand in waves, it was slow at first but once it was out you quickly ramped up to a more sizable wave of low-frequency acoustic energy.
You were quickly losing control of it as the seismic waves grew quicker than you anticipated. Without even knowing what happened, you felt a comforting fog take over your mind, and your arm quickly dropped to your side. You stood there in complete bliss until the fog faded fully from your mind, “Y/N?” Wanda interrupted, “How are you feeling?”
You turned around to face her, “Tired,” you said with hooded eyes. Using your powers took a lot out of you, especially when you were already tired to begin with, “-but, that felt amazing!”
Wanda smiled in return, “I know, getting a hang of your powers is a really good feeling, I remember when I-”
“No, the feeling that came after, it was like my brain shifted and went into a different state. It was so relaxing. Does that happen to you when you use your powers too?”
That wasn’t the answer Wanda was expecting, “Oh, no Y/N. What you felt was me, using my powers on you. I noticed you were having trouble keeping pace with the volume of waves, so I stepped in to break off the outburst,” she explained.
“Oh.” that made sense, you weren’t sure how you were able to stop so easily when moments before it felt like you were losing control. That feeling though, god it felt amazing. Part of you craved it as if everything fell into place in that moment. “Can we go back now? I’m so tired,” you asked as a yawn escaped like a bookend to your query.
“Already? We just got here.” Wanda teased before she remembered you’re still in recovery mode. “Yeah, I’m really tired,” you slurred as fatigue slammed into you similar to the force of a freight train and you visibly stumbled trying to keep upright. Wanda quickly caught you and guided you over to the nearby rock to sit for a moment, “I-I’m sorry, I just-” you started to apologize but Wanda cut you off, “Y/N stop, you don’t need to apologize.” she reassured you, and when you looked up to meet her gaze you were surprised to see the complete absence of anger or disgust, something you weren't used to.
Once you got ahold of your bearings, the two of you headed straight to the compound. Upon entering, you immediately plopped onto the nearest thing available to sleep on, which just happened to be the couch in the common room, not even bothering to make the trek upstairs to your bedroom.
“Y/N, I think we should go to the med bay and get you checked out,” Wanda stated trying to urge you off of the couch.
“Mmm, later,” you responded groggily as if you were half asleep already.
“Come on, surely your bed is cozier than this,” Wanda persisted, but there was no response this time. She stood there for a couple of seconds longer, staring at your form and waiting to see your chest rise and fall a couple of times before heading off to the medbay to get Bruce’s opinion. She didn’t want to make a big deal out of nothing, and she would surely never admit it, but she cared about your well-being.
Bruce assured Wanda that she was right in bringing this to his attention, while not urgent, it would be best to get you checked out. You should be recovered enough by this point that extreme exhaustion shouldn’t come so easily.
You woke up a few hours later and after pouring yourself a bowl of cereal, you headed up to your room. Hearing the movement, and soft noise of the TV turning on through the walls of your room, the woman next door made her way over to knock on your door.
“Come in!” you called from the bed, as you kept your attention on the TV knowing it was only Nat coming in to hang out.
“How are you feeling?”
Taken off guard by a different voice, you did a double take, “Wanda? Sorry I was expecting Nat. You just caught me off guard. I’m feeling better, just needed a nap.” you explained, trying to straighten your posture and appear like you’ve miraculously healed with that short nap.
“That’s good! I spoke to Bruce and-” Wanda began, before you cut in, “Spoke to Bruce? What? Why? I’m fine!” you blurted out, hating the thought of being brought back to medbay for further testing, you’ve always hated doctors, and especially hospitals. With how much time you’ve spent in a hospital the last month, if you never went back, it’d be too soon.
“He said you shouldn’t be tired anymore, and it’d be good to get checked out.” She explained.
You shook your head, “I’m fine Wanda. This is nothing new for me, being tired is my normal. Now, if you’ll excuse me, the best part is coming up.” You say motioning to the sitcom you had playing on the tv.
“When Clair tells Phil that she was too lazy to wait in line for his iPad?” Wanda challenged knowing exactly what episode you were watching, figuring you were just trying to get rid of her.
“No. Well, kind of I guess, but after that Phil goes to the batting cages as a coping mechanism.” you clarified.
“How is that the best part?” Wanda pushed for a more in depth explanation.
Part of you felt like you shouldn’t have to explain yourself, but another deeper part of you almost wanted to open up and let Wanda into all the details of your life, “Softball was a big part of my childhood, so it always felt like the batting cages were a safe place for me too, a place to stop overthinking and just focus on things like my stance or the angles I caught the ball at.”
It’s not the answer Wanda expected, but it made a lot of sense now, “You crash birthdays there too, or is that just a Phil thing?”
You both let out a laugh, “No, no. Phil takes the cake on that one.”
“Mind if I join?” she phrased it as a question, but she closed the door and moved to sit next to you on your bed before receiving an answer, and treating it more as a statement.
Not knowing how to decline at that point, or if you even wanted to you just kind of shook your head awkwardly and turned the volume up. The two of you sat in silence, other than the crunch of your cereal and the laughter you shared at the funny parts.
Together you watched about 2.5 episodes before the cozy atmosphere lulled you into a peaceful slumber. Wanda hadn’t even noticed you were sleeping until she glanced over because you weren’t laughing anymore. She couldn’t help but take note of your contorted position, clearly uncomfortable.
Concern etched subtly across her features, Wanda gently shook your shoulder, trying to rouse you from your deep sleep. "Hey, Y/N," she whispered softly, "you're sleeping in a pretty awkward position. You should move."
Y/N stirred, emitting a soft whine in response, but made no effort to adjust her position. Wanda sighed softly, realizing that coaxing Y/N awake might prove to be a challenge. With a gentle touch, she brushed a strand of hair away from Y/N's face, a fond smile tugging at her lips.
"You're stubborn, you know that?" Wanda murmured affectionately, her fingers tracing your cheek. "Fine, I guess I'll take care of you then."
With careful hands, Wanda eased you into a more comfortable position, tucking a pillow under your head and arranging the blankets around you. As she watched you settle into a deeper sleep, a warmth that she hadn’t expected filled Wanda's heart.
With that realization, she hurried out of your room as quickly as she could without disturbing you and pushing any positive feeling she suddenly felt toward you as far away as she could. God, she couldn’t stand you. Once she got back to her own quarters she asked F.R.I.D.A.Y to send both you and Bruce a reminder to look into your exhaustion so that she wouldn’t have to bring it up with you again.

Your footsteps quickened as you rounded the corner, hoping to evade Bruce's watchful gaze. The prospect of returning to the medbay filled you with a sense of unease, a heavy feeling you couldn't quite shake.
Bruce, Wanda, and now even Natasha had all been insistent on your follow-up examination, but you continued to make excuses and delay the inevitable. The sterile scent of antiseptic and the cold, clinical atmosphere of the medbay sent shivers down your spine, stirring up memories you'd rather forget.
With each passing moment, your anxiety mounted, a knot tightening in your stomach at the mere thought of facing medical procedures and probing questions. You knew Bruce and Nat meant well, you were still on guard with Wanda, but the fear of hospitals and medical procedures was deeply ingrained within you. Years spent avidly making sure no one else was privy to this fear because being a SHIELD agent requires bravery and courage, so how could you be a good agent and simultaneously be afraid of the doctor? You couldn’t. No one could know.
As you ducked into a nearby corridor looking over your shoulder, you were relieved to find Bruce's figure out of sight. But the guilt gnawed at you, knowing you were avoiding someone who was only trying to help for the sake of your own discomfort.
Yet, the fear of hospitals felt overwhelming, you felt a sort of primal instinct that seemed to grip you tighter with each step. You couldn't bring yourself to face it head-on, not yet anyway.
With a heavy sigh, you resolved to ignore the issue until it went away. For now, you’d continue to dodge Bruce's attempts at persuasion.
Days passed with you mostly keeping to yourself, Nat was away on a mission for a few days so that made things a bit easier. When you did venture out of your room for things like food and drinks, you made sure to scout out the area before entering to ensure you wouldn’t run into anyone.

As Wanda busies herself in the kitchen, the air is infused with an enticing medley of aromas that dance and mingle, creating a sensory symphony.
The rich, savory scent of sautéed onions fills the air, their sweet fragrance wafting from the skillet as Wanda expertly caramelizes them to perfection. The gentle sizzle of the onions echoes through the kitchen, a comforting sound that signals the beginning of a culinary masterpiece.
Next comes the earthy aroma of garlic, its pungent essence mingling with the sweetness of the onions to create a harmonious blend of flavors. As Wanda minces the garlic cloves with practiced precision, the kitchen is enveloped in the warm embrace of this aromatic duo.
“Hey Wanda, Have you seen Y/N?” Bruce asks, entering the kitchen and immediately bing hit with the aroma of Wanda’s Solyanka dish, “Mmm, smells good in here!” he added
Wanda smiled at the compliment as she turned to Bruce, “Not in a couple of days, how’d her check-in go?” she asked while continuing to stir the dish.
“It hasn’t, I think she may be avoiding me.” He deadpanned
“What makes you think that?”
“Well, when I first mentioned a follow-up examination to her. She very suddenly had a bunch of things to do and ran off, and I haven't seen her since. This was 4 days ago.” Bruce explained as he rummaged through the fridge for a drink.
Wanda nodded as the gears began to turn in her brain, she let out a hum, “Interesting. F.R.I.D.A.Y where is Y/N now?” she spoke aloud to the artificial assistant.
“Y/N is currently practicing archery in the training sector,” F.R.I.D.A.Y informed.
“Well, at least she’s not in bed,” Wanda dryly chuckled, adding the last bits of tomato to the pot.
Bruce nodded, “Yea, I’d still like to get that follow-up in though. I have a meeting in about 10 minutes, do you think you could talk to her?”
“What, why me?” she practically whined.
Bruce smiled, almost devilish, and simply said “You’re her mentor.” before leaving the room with his glass of mango juice.
Wanda rolled her eyes as she turned back to the pot on the stove, it was almost done. She just needed to put it on low to simmer for a bit. Though, as she made her way out of the kitchen, she almost felt a sense of excitement. Must’ve been because her dish was coming along so nicely, because there’s no way she would ever be excited to see you. Right?
As Wanda made her way to the training sector, her steps purposeful and determined, she couldn't shake the nagging worry that had been gnawing at her since Bruce had mentioned your unscheduled appointments in the medbay.
Spotting you across the training room, Wanda approached with a gentle smile, hoping to broach the subject delicately. But as she drew nearer, she noticed the tension in your posture, the furrow of your brow, and the restless energy that seemed to radiate from your figure.
"Hey, Y/N," Wanda greeted softly, her tone gentle as she approached, "I was looking for you. Bruce mentioned you haven't been to see him yet. Is everything okay?"
Your reaction was immediate, a defensive edge creeping into your voice as you shrugged off Wanda's concern. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just been busy with training, you know how it is."
Wanda wasn't convinced. She could see through the facade, recognizing the telltale signs of agitation and avoidance. Something was clearly bothering you, and she could see it was something you weren't ready to share.
"Wanda, I'm fine," you insisted, your voice tinged with frustration. "I don't need to see Bruce. It's not a big deal. I’m not even tired anymore, I’m literally shooting arrows right now. Would a tired person be doing that?" you reasoned in a rambling fashion.
But Wanda could sense the underlying fear in your words, the unspoken truth you were trying so hard to conceal. She also knew better than to push, because she knew better than anyone that some wounds ran deeper than others and required patience and understanding to heal.
With a reassuring smile, Wanda reached out to gently squeeze your shoulder and before she could even filter her words, her mouth started spewing, "Okay, Y/N. Just know that if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here for you. No judgments, I promise."
Your tense expression softened, a flicker of gratitude in your eyes before confusion came crashing in, “Uh- are you feeling ok?” not only was that possibly the nicest thing anyone had ever said, but you were pretty sure it was also the only nice thing Wanda has ever said to you.
Trying to build back her stone-cold composure against you, Wanda snapped back, “What? Have you never had someone see that you’re hurting and be nice to you? God Y/L/N, don’t read too much into it.” she scoffed and turned to leave the training gym, “Class at 6:30 tomorrow morning, don’t be late!” she yelled out on her way to the door, without even turning back around to face you, “OH! And meet up with Bruce!”
“I AM FINE!” you shouted back.
Tumblr media
You made sure to go to bed early that night so that you’d be able to get up early enough to make your meeting with Wanda without some sarcastic comment about your tardiness. It was still difficult but you needed to be on time to help prove your point that you don’t need Bruce, and you don’t need a follow-up exam.
The spot was a lot chillier than the last time you were there, you could still see the morning dew on the grass as the wind softly whipped through the clearing with crisp morning air.
Wanda was already there when you arrived, it was still dark but you could see her scarlet magic carrying her through the air as she set up targets across the way.
“Oh good, you’re finally here,” Wanda commented as she landed back on the ground on your side of the clearing.
“Hey, I was ON TIME. You can’t complain about that.” you defended.
She looked at you with a devilish grin and smugly claimed, “Does S.H.I.E.L.D. teach their agents anything anymore? On-time is late and 10 minutes early is on time.”
You just rolled your eyes in response as you changed the subject to ask about the new additions to the terrain, “What are those for?” you said pointing across the river.
“Something for you to aim at. Come, follow me.” she gestured as she began scaling a nearby boulder. It was easy enough to climb up the side of, almost like nature created it’s own version of stairs. The top provided an even better view of the clearing and a clear visual of where the sky hangs over the mountain.
Wanda made herself comfortable sitting at the top, leaving enough room for you to sit next to her as she patted the ground gesturing for you to join her, “What are we doing up here?” you asked, cautious of what she had planned for you.
“Gosh, what’s with all the questions Y/L/N? Why don’t you just go with the flow for once in your life”
“Fine.” you agreed as you took the spot next to her.
A couple of beats of silence pass as you both stare into the darkness that still covers the sky when Wanda finally turns to you, “Mornings are my favorite time to be out here.” she admitted.
“Why? It’s cold.”
Instead of immediately addressing your question, she turned back to the sky and took a deep breath. As if on queue, the sun slowly started to peek out from behind the mountain and paint the sky with warm hues like a work of art, “That’s why.”
“Wow,” you took it all in as you sat there in awe. The two of you shared a comfortable silence until the sun had completed its ascent over the mountain line.
As you struggled to harness your newfound powers, frustration simmered beneath the surface. Despite Wanda's surprisingly patient guidance, controlling the unpredictable energy coursing through your veins proved to be a daunting task.
With each failed attempt, your frustration mounted, a knot tightening in your stomach as you grappled with the overwhelming force of your abilities. But amidst the chaos, there was a flicker of something else—a thrill that coursed through your veins whenever Wanda intervened to take control.
Wanda watched you closely, her brow furrowed in concentration as she assessed the situation. She could sense your struggle when the raw power of your abilities threatened to spiral out of control. With a steady hand, Wanda reached out, her telekinetic powers weaving through the air as she penetrated your mind, guiding her movements with a gentle yet firm touch.
As Wanda assumed control, a wave of relief washed over you, a sensation that was both exhilarating and disconcerting. You surrendered to Wanda's influence, relinquishing control with a sense of surrender that both frightened and intrigued you.
But beneath the surface, there was a secret you dared not admit—a part of you relished in the feeling of giving up control, the intimacy of connection ignited a fire within you that couldn't quite be extinguished. It was a forbidden thrill, tainted by your tumultuous history and the unspoken tension that lingered between the two of you.
As the training session continued and you started to get the hang of it a bit more, there were a few times that you feigned a lack of restraint, the occasional slip-up, a deliberate ploy to elicit Wanda's intervention once more. To relish in the feeling of her control. You were ashamed of the forbidden desires that stirred deep down whenever Wanda's telekinetic touch enveloped your mind, binding the two of you together in ways you couldn't even begin to understand.
Wanda was quite literally inside of your mind, she knew what you were doing, and still, she played along. She recognized the subtle cues in your behavior. She understood the unspoken desire that lingered beneath the surface, mirrored in her own developing longing for intimacy.
Instead of reprimanding you for your deliberate slip-ups, Wanda chose to covertly lean into the unspoken tension that crackled between you. With a subtle flick of her wrist, she amplified her telekinetic influence. Your mind clouded with a thick fog, nearly impossible to see through, keeping your thoughts tame as you subconsciously followed Wanda’s lead.
Loving the feeling of having a complete hold on your mind, she reveled in not only the way that you hung on her every command, but also in the way you enjoyed it. She was going to have fun with this, give you small tastes until you’re begging for more.
Slowly, she released the hold she had taken over your mind. As the fog started the thin out, the first thing you heard was Wanda calling out your name with an artificial tinge of worry, “Y/N?” You blinked rapidly a few times before fully coming back to your senses, “are you ok?” her words were soft and endearing.
“Yea, uh,” As if the world instantly got the right prescription, everything cleared right up, “Think we can call it? I need to go lie down,” you admitted. Wanda wanted to decline your request, she was actually really enjoying herself, “Yea, of course.”
Tumblr media
You had been laying in your bed for 20 minutes now, unable to rest because your mind kept replaying the events of your training session with Wanda. You weren’t sure if it felt so good for her to take over your mind like that because it was something you craved or because it was her. It could’ve been both, but surely she doesn’t feel the same about you. In fact, with the way you constantly get underneath each other’s skin, surely she despised you.
It wasn’t fair to her, for once she tried being helpful and you’re practically drooling over the thought of more. You had to remove yourself from the situation before it became too much and you made a complete fool of yourself. Getting up from your bed, you decided the only thing that could get you out of your mentorship with Wanda would be found in Tony’s lab.
“Tony!” with his back to the door, you noticed the slight startle in his figure, he wasn’t expecting anyone, “How’s the device thing coming along for my powers?” you asked, taking the seat across from him.
Once you were seated across from him, he raised his gaze from the object in his hands to meet your eyes, “The inhibitor?” you nodded, “yea, that.”
“I thought Wanda was teaching you how to use your powers? I stopped working on it because I figured you didn't need it,” this was the last thing you wanted to hear, this was your way out. You needed this thing as quickly as possible.
“Oh, Wanda agreed that it would be good for me to have it. That it would actually help me to learn how to tame them.” you lied through your straight-ass teeth but Tony believed you. While someone like Natasha would’ve seen right through that charade, Tony sure as hell wasn’t an Avenger because he was a super spy, intelligence can only get you so far in the detective game.
“Ok, i’ll have it to you in the next couple of days. I’ll just need to run some tests on your blood to callibrate it correctly, can you go down to the med lab today?”
Oh here we go, you’ll either have to face your fear of medical or keep hiding your budding feelings for Wanda. Surprisingly this is exactly what it took for you to get your follow up exam and run even more tests.
Bruce was surprised to see you, and even though your attempt at convincing him you werent avoiding him fell short, he decided not to pry. He was just happy you were here now.
The follow up exam wasn’t nearly as bad as you had built it up in your head. They just asked a few questions, took some tests and sent you on your way. That’s how it always is though, and next time it’ll be the same way. You conjure these irrational thoughts and then it builds and builds.

As Natasha returned to the compound , you could hardly contain your excitement. You missed her presence, and you were looking forwards to hearing all about her mission.
"Nat!" you exclaimed as you spotted Natasha entering the common area, a grin spreading across your face. "You're back!"
Natasha's lips curved into a warm smile as she greeted you with a hug. "Hey, Y/N. It's good to see you too," she said, returning the embrace.
The two of you settled onto the couch together, the familiar comfort of your friendship easing the tension of Natasha's recent mission. As you caught up on each other's lives, swapping stories and sharing laughs, you couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude that your friend was back.
"So, how was the mission?" you asked, leaning in with genuine curiosity.
Natasha's expression softened, a hint of weariness shadowing her features. "It was… intense," she admitted, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "But we got the job done."
“Intense, how?”
Natasha settled back into the couch, her gaze distant as she recounted the events of her mission. "We were sent to extract a high-value target from a hostile territory," she began, her voice tinged with a mixture of seriousness and intensity.
"It started off smoothly enough," she continued, her words measured. "But things quickly escalated. We encountered heavy resistance from enemy forces, and what was supposed to be a simple extraction turned into a full-blown firefight."
You listened intently, as your expression reflected the gravity of Natasha's words. Flashbacks of your recent mission sitting at the forefront of your mind as she recounted the events. You knew firsthand the dangers of fieldwork, but hearing Natasha's account reminded you of the risks she faced on a daily basis.
"We managed to secure the target, but not without casualties," Natasha said quietly, her gaze turning inward as she remembered the sacrifices made during the mission.
You reached out, offering Natasha a reassuring squeeze of your hand. "I'm sorry, Nat. That’s never easy," you said softly, voice filled with empathy.
She offered a grateful smile, appreciating your insight. "Yea," she admitted, her tone somber. "But we did what we had to do. That's the job."
As you sat together in the quiet of the room, the weight of Natasha's mission hung in the air. But amidst the shadows of uncertainty, there was also a glimmer of resilience, “So, what’d I miss around here?”
“Oh, nothing really,” you shrugged, “Same old things.”
“Oh yea? How’s your mentorship with Wanda going?” she pried.
Your cheeks flushed at the mention of her name, and of course the super spy sitting next to you noticed, “oh that? It’s coming to an end.” you responded vaguely.
“-an end? Why? What happened?” Natasha pushed for more information.
Avoiding eye contact, you explained, “Nothing happened. I don’t need her help anymore,”
Acting impressed, Natasha had a feeling there was more to the story, “Well, you got a handle on your powers pretty quickly then, huh?”
With a satisfied grin, acting as if you outsmarted some all knowing system, “Oh I don’t need to. Tony is fixing them.” you bragged as you removed yourself from the couch beside Nat to enter the kitchen which was still in clear view from where Natasha was seated on the couch, “you want a drink or anything? You must be exhausted.”
Nat stayed put on the couch, letting her brain catch up with what you just said, she was tired but that could wait, “Sorry, can we circle back for a sec? Tony is fixing your powers? How exactly?” she pressed, not letting you move on from the topic as she followed you off the couch and into the kitchen.
Using the refrigerator as an excuse to not meet her eyes, you pretending to weigh your options even though you knew exactly what you were after as soon as you left couch, “well, i dont know the technicalities of it, Nat, but he’s got gadgets for everything. Oh! And I had my follow-up with Bruce. He said that he’ll need to wait for the tests to come back but everything seems in order.”
Natasha hummed in response as she took a sip of the water bottle you slid over to her, “We’ll talk about this more later, movie night tonight? I’ve got to go take a shower.”
You nodded in response, “Oh, so that’s what that smell was!” you called out as she left you behind in the kitchen. She couldnt help but checkle slightly in response, “Oh shut it, Y/L/N!”
Tumblr media
You were looking forward to a proper movie night with Natasha, it had been too long for your liking since the two of you got to have time to yourselves and relax together like this. You even made sure to run to the store and grab lots of snacks in preparation.
You werent good at cooking by any stretch, but popcorn, you could handle. You got a bowl ready, and made sure to season it with the butter powder that Natasha loves as you put all the other junk and drinks onto a tray so you could carry it easily into the theatre room. To your surprise, Natasha wasn’t the only one there waiting for you.
“Surprise!” Nat haphazardly yelled once you noticed that Wanda was sitting beside her. Against your own will, your eyes widened as your cheeks flooded a light pink. You didnt want her here, “Why is she here?” you asked, speaking to Nat as if Wanda wasnt sitting right there to hear.
“Natasha invited me,” Wanda stepped in and explained for herself. It was difficult to hide your disgust at the situation, you were looking forward to having a cozy evening alone with Nat.
“Why?” You kept your eyes on Natasha, not paying Wanda any attention, she was intruding on your plans, and you hated the fact that you’d have to sit through an entire movie with her, an entire movie being distracted, trying to push away the thoughts that keep plaguing your mind.
Natasha knew that there was tension between you and Wanda that likely should be addressed, and who better to be a mediator than your best friend herself? After thinking over your approach to dampen your powers instead of learning to wield them properly, she believed that spending time together in a relaxed setting like a movie night could help you work through your differences and potentially mend whatever set you off from training.
Additionally, Natasha valued both you and Wanda as friends and continually tried anything to see you get along better. She hoped that by bringing you together in a more casual and friendly environment, you could find some common ground, “Oh stop complaining Y/N, come sit!” Nat patted the seat next to her. Wanda wasnt phased by your display, in fact, she somewhat expected it.
You reluctantly sat without complaining further, “What movie have you two decided on then?” you shot off, acting as if having Wanda there excluded you in some way.
Nat ignored the attitude in your tone, “We havent decided yet, I was thinking a comedy though,” she answered.
You and Wanda both decided against anything either of you chose, so eventually you landed on a movie that Nat suggested. As the movie played on the screen, you held back your laughter, a subtle attempt to maintain a sense of composure in front of Wanda. Feeling somewhat guarded in Wanda's presence, hesitant to show vulnerability or let your guard down completely.
But as the movie reached a particularly funny scene, you couldn't help but crack a smile, the laughter bubbling up from deep within. Natasha, sitting beside you, let out a hearty laugh, her amusement contagious as it spread to both you and Wanda.
Despite your initial reservations, the three of you were soon found laughing uproariously, the tension of the evening melting away in the shared joy of the moment. You felt a sense of relief wash over you, making a conscious decision to let go of your hesitations and embrace the joy of the movie. Letting your guard down, to laugh freely and openly.
Once the movie came to and end, the next suggested option was “Modern Family” and without a second thought you clicked play. Nat slowly got up from her spot in the middle of you and Wanda, claiming she was exhausted and going to head to bed. You and Wanda stayed seated as the show began to play. You’re not sure exactly when it happened but at some point, Wanda took over Nat’s seat beside you, “So, how did your follow up go with Bruce?”
You sighed, “It went well I guess, they uh- they found in my bloodwork that I have this disease called chronic fatigue syndrome, which explains why I’m always tired and stuff,” you explained.
Wanda tilted her head slightly as she took in the information, “Well, surely you already knew that from the tests SHIELD did on you to pass academy.” She questioned, thinking back to her internal reasoning as to why you knew that you’d be able to survive the chemical at the Hydra plant.
You’re not sure where her thought process was, or what made her come to that conclusion, “What? No, I never got to see the results of any of those tests, it was all confidential.” you explained, “It was just a pass or fail result at the end of the graduate year.”
As if all the walls that Wanda built between you came crashing down, realization flooded in. She had constructed this idea of you in her head, an idea that you always had some sort of ulterior motive and nothing you ever did was out of any sort of kindness or altruism, “Wait, so how did you know that you’d survive the chemical agent that we were sent to retrieve at the Hydra base?”
“I didn’t.” you stated as if it were obvious. Perhaps it was to everyone else. “Oh! Speaking of that, I have some good news!” you transitioned to the new topic, tone laced with mischief, “You won’t need to mentor me anymore,”
Wanda arched an eyebrow, her expression guarded knowing that you surely didnt have a complete grasp on your powers yet, she hummed, “Why’s that?”
You shrugged nonchalantly, a smirk playing at the corner of your lips, “Tony’s making me an inhibitor,” you nearly bragged, “I don’t need to bother with them now, and we can go back to hating each other, no need to keep up with this charade anymore. Just like old times.”
There was a sharpness to your words, a cutting edge that sliced through the tension. You knew that your relationship with Wanda had always been fraught with animosity, a constant battle of wills and egos.
But as you watched Wanda's reaction, a flicker of something crossed her features—was it disappointment? Relief? Sadness? You couldn't quite decipher it, but deep down, you couldn't shake the feeling that you were doing Wanda a favor by removing yourself from her life.
Wanda's response was measured, her gaze steady as she met your eyes. "Oh, this thing?” she said as she held out her hand, the inhibitor that Tony built for you appearing out of thin air, surrounded by red tendrils of magic. Your eyes widened, “I was wondering when you were going to tell me. Imagine my surprise when he told me it was my idea.” she glared, expecting an explanation.
You swallowed hard before explaining yourself, “Yea, well- I. I figured that this will make things easier for both of us. Things can go back to the way they used to be.” you stressed, avoiding eye contact with the girl beside you in favor of quite literally anything else in the room.
Your words carried a weight, so much had changed in the last month. Was anything really better off before any of this? “You want to go back to the way things used to be between us?” she clarified.
Of course you didn’t want that, but it’s what you convinced yourself that she wanted, “I- I don’t know,” you muttered as the wheels spun in your head, “No?”
Wanda couldn’t help but smile slightly at the state you were in, she found it cute. So indecisive and unsure, no trace of the snarky confidence you used to hold. Instead, you were shrunken in on yourself, merely a shell in her presence, “Then what made you lie to Tony for this?” she pushed for an explanation, as she gestured to the inhibitor she was still holding.
You were feeling overwhelmed now, not knowing the right thing to say. The last thing you wanted was Wanda upset with you. Your breathing began to pick up ever so slightly, something Wanda took notice of, “I- I’m sorry, I thought you’d like it better this way. Without me.” you admitted.
Spinning in her seat so that her entire body faced you instead of the tv, the device in Wanda’s hand vanished as she moved it to rest on your leg for comfort, “Y/N, Why would you think that?”
Your body tensed at the contact of her hand on your thigh, keeping your eyeline low like you were a child being scolded, “Well, it’s just- I feel like i’ve become this responsibility for you, and you shouldn’t have to. I know you hate me, and that’s ok. I deserve it, but it’s not fair for you.” you tried to find the right words to explain your thought process, you werent even sure if it made sense at this point.
Suddenly you felt Wanda’s fingers pulling your chin to force you to meet her gaze, “Hey. I don’t hate you.” she clarified, “Sure we bicker, and get under each other’s skin, but I thought things were getting better.” she affirmed, and you nodded gently in response, “Good girl,” she whispered almost inaudibly, sending a shiver down your spine noticing the hold she had on you without even using her magic, “Regardless, it’s the least I could do, the only reason you even have these powers in the first place is because you saved me.” she admitted.
You didn’t have a response, staring back at her with doe wide eyes waiting for her to make the next move. She removed her grip from your chin and lifted the barrier from between your seats, “Come here,” she patted as she lifted her arm for you to scootch closer. You did as she said, nuzzling into the space she provided. Your shared focus shifted back to the sitcom on the tv as you relaxed into her embrace, “Wanda.” you muttered softly as exhaustion began weighing heavily on your features, and she hummed in response, “I never hated you either.” you admitted.
“I know.”

The sun cast its warm glow over the tranquil morning, illuminating the Avengers' headquarters. Wanda Maximoff, dressed in a stunning white gown, stood before the mirror, a smile gracing her lips as she admired her reflection. Today was her wedding day, a day she had dreamt of, and it was finally here. The room buzzed with excitement as friends and teammates bustled around, making the final preparations for the ceremony. Among them was you, Wanda's closest friend, and perhaps the one who knew her best.
You had been a constant presence in Wanda's life since your paths had intertwined at Hydra. From the first moment you met, there was an instant connection, a deep understanding that bound your souls together. Through trials and tribulations, you had leaned on each other, forming a bond that could never be broken.
As Wanda's maid of honor, you had the task of ensuring everything went off without a hitch. You moved gracefully around the room, orchestrating the final touches with your usual calm demeanor. But beneath the facade of serenity, your heart was a storm of conflicting emotions.
Wanda turned from the mirror, her eyes alight with joy. "Y/N, can you believe this day is finally here?"
You smiled, your gaze tender. "Who would’ve thought that one day, one of those scared little kids being tested on in the Hydra facility would be getting their happily ever after? Here w-you are, defying all odds, you deserve all the happiness in the world."
Wanda's gaze softened as she reached out and took your hand. "And you, my dear friend, have been there for me through everything. I couldn't imagine this day without you by my side."
Your heart skipped a beat at the sincerity in Wanda's eyes. How you wished you could express the depth of your feelings, but you had always been skilled at hiding your true emotions.
The ceremony was a blur of beauty and emotion straight from a fairy tale, and soon Wanda and Vision were pronounced husband and wife. The reception was a lively affair, laughter, and music filling the air as the Avengers and their friends celebrated the union. You watched from the sidelines, your smile bright, but your heart ached. You had always been content with your friendship with Wanda, but the realization that you could never truly have her stung more fiercely today.
Tumblr media
As the night continued; Tony Stark, his inhibitions loosened by alcohol, became increasingly boisterous. You tried to keep a low profile, but Tony's attention landed squarely on you.
"Ah, Y/N! Always the bridesmaid, but never the bride," Tony slurred, a sardonic grin on his face, as he hooked his right arm around your shoulder and squeezed you into his side so that you were forced to listen to his remarks.
Your cheeks flushed a mix of embarrassment and hurt flooding in. Forcing a laugh, hoping to brush off his comment. "Well, someone's gotta support our happily ever afters, Tony."
Tony's gaze sharpened, and he took another swig of his drink. "You know, it's a shame, really. All that unrequited love you've been harboring for Wanda."
“Tony.” Natasha warned after hearing what was being said through earshot.
Your heart stopped, panic gripping tightly around your neck. How could he know? You had kept your feelings buried so deep, you could argue that sometimes you even forgot they were there.
The party around them seemed to fade into the background as Tony's words hung in the air. Your mind raced, searching for a way to salvage the situation, to hide the truth that had been laid bare.
But Tony wasn't finished. "Oh, come on. The way you've always dropped everything to be there for her, the way your eyes follow her whenever she's in the room and shy away under her glance. It's obvious."
“Tony, Enough!” Natasha said much louder, garnering more attention than she had hoped for.
Your world shattered. Someone you had trusted, one who promised to be on your side, had just exposed your most guarded secret. You felt exposed, vulnerable, and utterly lost.
Wanda approached after hearing Natasha raise her voice, concern in her eyes as she noticed you in distress. "Hey, what's going on? Is everything ok?"
Tony smirked, his voice dripping with malice. "Just having a little heart-to-heart about our dear Y/N’s feelings for you."
Wanda's gaze turned to you, a mixture of surprise and confusion in her eyes. Your heart raced and your throat constricted with a flood of emotions you couldn't put into words. You could feel the tears start to well in your eyes even if they hadn’t become noticeable yet. The embarrassment was gobbling you whole at this point, the only thing you could think to do was run, you didn’t want to sit there and see Wanda’s reaction. You couldn't. You didn’t want her pity, her anger, her disgust, whatever lay beneath her gorgeous green eyes. You couldn’t wait around for it, so you flung yourself and weaseled out from Tony’s far too tight grasp and booked it.
“Tony, What the fuck!” Natasha scolded him as Wanda chased after you, still in her wedding dress and heels.
“What? We were all thinking it. Someone had to say it.” He brushed off with no remorse.
“You’re unbelievable, keep this up and you won’t have any friends left, Stark,” Nat spat back.
Eventually, your running ceased as you fell to your knees in the garden behind the reception and past the courtyard. Your tears became uncontrollable as you sat there sobbing as quietly as you could, hoping you had run far enough away that Wanda wouldn’t find you. The feeling of embarrassment still replaying in your brain on repeat along with thoughts swirling around in your mind that Wanda would hate you for what Tony said. How could she be your friend after that? You hadn’t known life without her for quite some time, and before her, it was all terrible. The only joy you ever found in life came after she lit up your world. How could you go back to that?
It didn’t take long for Wanda to find you, she could read you like a book. As soon as she spotted you sobbing on the ground, she immediately ran up to you and knelt down to wrap you in her arms to try and stop your sobbing, “Y/N, shh, it’s ok,” she whispered in your ear as she gently rocked you.
Once the sobbing slowed you attempted to break your silence, "Wanda, I..." you began, your voice barely above a whisper.
But Wanda held up a hand, stopping you. Her expression was a complex blend of emotions – surprise, curiosity, and something else you couldn't quite decipher.
"Wanda, I never meant for you to find out like this," you managed, your voice trembling.
Wanda's gaze softened, and she dipped her head down closer, reaching out to cup your cheek. "Y/N, you've always been a constant in my life, a rock when everything else was uncertain. I've leaned on you, and I hope you know that you mean the world to me."
Even though the sobbing had slowed, new tears began to well in your eyes, a mix of relief and regret flooding you. "I- I didn't want to complicate things. I cherished our friendship more than anything, and I never wanted to put you in an uncomfortable position."
Wanda smiled a sad but genuine smile. "Love is never something to be regretted, priyatel'. You’ve been my go-to, my best friend, the one I can share my good days and bad days with. Soulmates aren’t just lovers."
Your heart ached with a bittersweet blend of emotions. You had lost your chance, but at least you hadn't lost your friend. Wanda's acceptance meant more to you than you could even express, “I’m sorry,” you said as you dipped your head away from her gaze.
“Knock it off, priyatel'. None of this is your fault.” Wanda assured you as you both stood from the ground.
“Your dress is ruined and your wedding night, all because of me,” you noted.
“Y/N, you’re worth so much more to me than some stupid dress, and the night is still young.” she said extending her hand for you to grab as she escorted you back to the party.
“Come on, lets at least get your dress cleaned up,” you said taking her hand.
Tumblr media
As the venue emptied and the night drew to a close, you found yourself sitting alone on a quiet balcony, the stars above offering a soothing embrace. Wanda joined you, the sound of her footsteps soft against the night.
"Mind if I join you?" Wanda asked, her voice gentle.
You shook your head, managing a small smile. "Of course not."
The two of you sat in silence for a while, the weight of the unspoken conversation heavy in the air.
"I'm sorry I never realized," Wanda finally said, her voice tinged with regret.
You looked at her, your heart aching for the pain you saw in Wanda's eyes. "Wanda, please don't blame yourself. My feelings were my own to bear, and I never wanted to burden you with them."
Wanda reached out, taking your hand in her own. "But you're not a burden, Y/N. If anything, I regret not seeing the depth of your feelings sooner. You've been a constant in my life, and I should have understood what that meant."
Your heart swelled at her words, as you squeezed her hand. "Wanda, you've given me so much already. I'll always cherish our friendship, no matter what."
Wanda's gaze was intense, her eyes searching yours, "And I'll cherish it too, Y/N. You're a huge part of my story, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Tears welled in your eyes, as you took a deep breath, trying to steady your emotions. "Wanda, you mean everything to me. Seeing you happy is all that matters."
Wanda reached out, gently wiping away a tear from your cheek. "And your happiness matters to me too. Life is full of unexpected twists, Y/N. Who's to say what lies ahead?"
As you both sat there, hand in hand, bathing in the moonlight, you realized that perhaps love didn't always have to be romantic to be meaningful. The love you held for Wanda, while unrequited, had shaped you into the person you were now, and that was a story worth telling.
And so, in the quiet moments of that night, two hearts found solace in the understanding that friendship, even when mixed with unspoken emotions, could be a powerful and beautiful thing.
Tumblr media
The night wore on, the moon casting its silver glow over the Avengers' compound. The celebration had shifted into a quieter phase, with small groups of friends and family gathered around, reminiscing and sharing stories. You found yourself engaged in a conversation with Clint and Nat, both of whom had been part of your journey since the early days of being rescued.
"Hey, Y/N, remember that mission in Budapest?" Clint chuckled, a nostalgic glint in his eye.
You laughed, leaning back in your chair. "How could I forget? That was the mission that involved the cat, right?"
Natasha smirked, her gaze thoughtful. "Ah, yes, the infamous cat incident. You've always had a way of turning the most serious situations into something memorable."
You grinned, the warmth of their camaraderie washing over you. Despite the turmoil of your own heart, you were grateful for these connections, these moments that had shaped your life.
As the night continued, Your gaze kept drifting toward Wanda, who was surrounded by well-wishers and friends, her laughter ringing through the air. The sight was both heartwarming and heart-wrenching, a reminder of what she now had and what you could never have.
Tony, his previous intoxication now replaced by solemn sobriety, approached you, his gaze apologetic. "Hey, you, about earlier..."
You held up a hand, your expression softening. "Tony, it's okay. I know you were just speaking your mind."
Tony sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I should have been more careful with my words. I didn't mean to hurt you."
You smiled, offering him a reassuring pat on the arm. "Don't worry about it, Tony. Water under the bridge."
“Oh Y/N, you let him off way too easily,” Natasha teased.
As the night drew to a close, the guests slowly began to disperse, their laughter and conversation fading into the background. It was bittersweet, being part of this day, surrounded by happiness and love, yet feeling an ache deep within.

Tumblr media
“If all goes to plan, this should be textbook stuff,” Steve explained to the team waiting to unload from the Quinjet, “we get in, get the package, and then get out. Understood?” The team consisting of Wanda, Tony, Clint, and Nat all nodded on queue.
At that point, they felt the landing gear make contact with the ground just a couple miles out from the Hydra base they planned to invade. The exit door began to lift and they all filed out of the vehicle to get into position. Wanda and Tony took to the sky for surveillance while the other 3 followed behind on 2 motorcycles.
The plan was to be as discrete as they could for as long as possible. They knew it wouldn’t be a stealth mission, but to draw the least amount of attention until they had the package was ideal.
Wanda took out the guards at the gate before they could trigger an alarm while Tony blasted the surveillance cameras. The ground team was free to move into the base, all was going according to plan. It didn’t take long for them to draw attention to themselves once they infiltrated the entrance. The opposing team sprung into action, sending as many goons as they could to slow down the invasion long enough to escape with what they needed most from a helicopter on the roof.
Tony saw the blades of the helicopter slowly start to spin as they warmed up and quickly blasted them off with his repulser to prevent them from leaving. Quickly making his way to the helicopter to retrieve the package, that he assumed they were trying to escape with.
“Oh, no you don’t” he quipped toward the scientists as he took them out and snatched their briefcase.
“Steve, I’ve got the briefcase, time to boogie,” Tony exclaimed over the comms.
“Briefcase?” Steve repeated, confused.
“Yea, in my hand. Let’s go,”
“The package won’t fit in a briefcase, Tony.” Steve rebutted, “Does it say HS12?”
The briefcase was silver and had no distinct markings on it other than the hydra symbol at the top adorning the combination lock, “er- no, but they were trying to leave with it so I just-”
“Keep looking Stark” Steve commanded.
Going through the same doors that the scientists came through on the roof, Wanda went in to search the building for the real package they were after. The only thing she knew about it, is that it’s labeled HS12 and it’s extremely dangerous. Making her way through the dimly lit halls of the base, she saw weapon labs labeled with a W and corresponding numbers. Initially, she went into one hoping to find what she was looking for but everything in the room began with a W so she knew she was likely far off from her target.
Coming up empty handed she decided to ask for help. The room that she went into initially was empty, so she found one that wasn’t, “Excuse me?” she said with feigned innocence, “I’m looking for something specific, can one of you help me?”
The scientists tried to scurry away knowing exactly who they were speaking with. Wanda Maximoff was spoken about widely throughout Hydra, she was one of their greatest successes after all. With little effort; Wanda trapped the men in the room with her, locking the doors shut with her magic, “HS12, Where can I find it?” Wanda sternly queried, she hated being back in the house of hydra after being experimented on by the same people just a couple of years prior. Reminding herself that she was a misinformed volunteer helped quell the hatred she held for them in her soul. Some of these people may be of the same fate, thinking they're changing the world for the better, only to be helping the wrong team. Or even worse, some of these people may not even have a choice in the matter at all. Doing work to protect a loved one from threats of torture or even death.
As silence stained the room, she decided to give her audience some incentive to answer. Using her magic, she lifted the scientist with the most badges displayed on his lab coat up into the air. Judging by the badges, he’s likely been there a while, meaning he should have the information she’s seeking. While in her grasp, the red wisps moved up to his throat as they squeezed into each other, cutting off his oxygen supply, “I won’t ask again”
Merely seconds later, the scientist was already squirming, “th-” he tried to gasp out, Wanda loosened her hold on his throat just enough for him to speak the answer, “third fl- floor” he squealed out; desperate for air, and scared for his life. Wanda wasted no time, abruptly dropping the scientist to the linoleum tile that sat below him as she turned to head for the staircase.
The entrance to the third floor from the stairwell was locked, needing a keycard for entry. The door read Authorized Personnel Only in bold red letters. This didn’t do anything to stop Wanda, as she blasted her magic through the door swinging it open. Similarly to the rooms on the upper floor, each one was labeled with HS and a corresponding number. The first door to her left reads HS37, so she continues down the hall to look for 12. The first chunk of rooms are empty, it isn’t until she gets down around 15 that she realizes they aren’t weapon rooms, they’re cells. Then it clicks; HS = Human Subject.
Her heartbeat picks up as her mind starts to conjure images of what type of monster could be waiting for her behind the door. Whatever it is, whoever it is, she’s sure she can handle it, in fact, she’s slightly relieved that she’s the one to find it because she’s probably best suited out of the current team to face a dangerous creature. With only a few doors between 15 and 12, she arrives quicker than her mind can prepare, so she stands there for a couple of seconds, inhaling deeply before blasting the locked door with her magic.
As she enters, the building starts to tremble, shockwaves radiating from the room. She’s met with quite the opposite of what she was expecting, a small child scurrying to huddle into a fetal position in the corner of the room terrified of the stranger that just entered. Most of the time, people visiting your cell were unwelcomed, but at least they were familiar. Their visits often resulted in needles being poked into your arms which made you dread the sound of the hinges on the door.
Wanda’s features immediately softened in an attempt to calm you, “Hi there, it’s ok malyshka, I’m not going to hurt you,” she gently assured
You nuzzled your head deeper into your legs seeking any comfort you could get as tears threaten to spill from your eyelids.
“Steve, you didn’t tell us HS12 is a child,” Wanda said angrily over the comms to the super soldier.
“A what?!” Natasha chimed in confused
The increase of Wanda’s voice jarred your nerves even more, and it was noticeable by the way the shake of the building picked up.
“Wanda, what’s your location?” Steve queried
“Third floor.”
“Stay there, we’re coming. Be careful, she’s dangerous.” Steve warned
Deciding not to heed Steve’s comment, Wanda continued on with her attempt to calm you down, “Shh, it’s ok. What’s your name?”
“y-y/n” you squeaked out
“Y/N, such a pretty name. I’m Wanda,”
“Wan-da?” you tested the name on your tongue, still unsure about the woman standing before you.
“Yes!” she exclaimed excitedly, “I’m here to help you,” she conveyed with a genuine smile. Her brows raised slightly as she spoke.
“No poke?” you whimpered, wanting to trust Wanda because she felt motherly but still reluctant.
“No, no poke.” she reached for you, “come on.”
You hesitantly took her hand as you stood on grounded feet beneath you, “where we go?”
“Home,” Wanda assured
Confused, you furrowed your brows and looked at the redhead, “I no have home”
Hearing you utter the words broke her heart, not only the fact that it may be true, but it was the way you knew it to be true that left her heart in little pieces, “That’s going to change, dorogoy.”
“No, no leave,” you shook your head side to side as you removed your hand from hers and backed up until you made contact with the wall, “I be good, no ouchies,” you stated, worrying what they would do to you if they caught you trying to leave.
Wanda kneeled down to your level, “no one will hurt you, ill make sure of it.”
Within a couple of seconds, the rest of the team arrived at your doorway. Seeing Steve and Clint in the doorway was enough to send your nerves into overload. Men, in general, scared you, everyone that you recalled causing you harm had always been male so you were much less likely to trust them. Their suits and weapons only helped to give you more anxiety that they were there to cause you pain, “NO! PLEASE!” you screamed as sounds of stray items hitting the floor echoed through the hallways.
“Wanda, we have to get her out of here” Steve stated in a stoic tone
“Y/N, I need you to calm down for me, can you do that? Look at me,” she said trying her best to diffuse the situation without subduing you.
All you wanted to do was cry out for your mama, you wanted to be held and told it will all be ok but you knew that wasn’t an option. You lost your mother and she’s never coming back, no one was coming to help ease your emotions, you’re all on your own and you only have yourself to protect you.
At that moment, a crack bellowed through the ceiling causing a chunk to fall above your head. Without a second thought, Clint drew an arrow from his quiver and shot straight through the debris, breaking it into smaller pieces in an effort to protect you. From your point of view, you saw a man draw an arrow on you and miss just above your head, who knows what he’d do next?
The action, in an involuntary attempt to protect yourself, caused shockwaves to erupt from your tiny form as you squealed and folded in on yourself. The building had already started crumbling, but this was the final straw that rained trauma on every support in the structure.
With the building on the verge of swallowing you all whole and Wanda’s attempts to calm you falling short, she knew she had to stop you, for your own safety. The crimson tendrils of magic flew out from her fingers to seep directly into your mind, quelling your thoughts instantly and leaving you in restful sleep. The building stopped shaking the second you were out, some damage remained but the structure was still standing. As your legs gave out underneath you, Wanda was there to catch you from the impending floor and bring you straight into her arms, holding you tightly.
Tumblr media
Wanda held you in her arms the entire flight. How could someone do this to such an innocent child, she thought. A part of her felt guilty for ever being a part of an organization that would go to such great lengths. You were sleeping, but the dreams swirling around in your head were far from quiet. To be truthful, being asleep was one of your favorite things, you were free to explore your own imagination in 4 dimensions instead of being confined to the cell the Hydra held you captive in.
Natasha, knowing how hard this must be for Wanda, made her way over to sit next to the Sokovian. She placed a reassuring hand on Wanda’s thigh to show her that she’s there for her while Wanda zoned out, deep in thought.
“She’s lucky you found her,” Natasha gently stated.
“I just, I don’t understand how someone could hurt her,” Wanda sighed, “To look into that little face and lock her in a cell,” her bottom lip quivered as tears threatened to spill over but she held them back.
“I know, but now we can make sure no one ever hurts her again,” Nat offered.
Wanda pulled her lips together and lifted her cheeks slightly to form a neutral expression of acknowledgment. After a beat of silence, Natasha wrapped her left arm around the redhead. Wanda melted into the Russian next to her, allowing her head to lean back onto her chest, “I’m not giving her up to Fury,” Wanda whispered.
“I know.”
Tumblr media
When the team lands, they immediately bring you to the medbay and Tony gets to work on an inhibitor for your powers. They gather a little blood so they can run tests and the only reason Wanda even lets them is that you're asleep and won’t be bothered. Once they've released you from the medical unit, Wanda takes you to her room to get cleaned up.
“Don’t get too attached, Maximoff. We have to give her to Fury,” Steve called out as Wanda ignored him and made her way up the stairs with you.
She gently lays you on the bed as she leaves to start running the bath water. As the water fills, she returns to your side and begins to shake you gently. The redhead was nervous to wake you before Tony finished the inhibitor, but she was confident that she could soothe you enough for a bath, “Y/N” she hummed to your laying figure on the bed, as you began to stir awake, “wake up, malyshka, it’s tubby time”
The words rang into your ears, and in your waking stupor, you imagined you were back in your home with your mother. You stretched your arms above your head before opening your eyes to the sight of a smiling redhead looming above you. The same one from your cell, she told you her name, what was it? Oh right!
“Wana” you blurted
“Yes! Wanda,” the sokovian punctuated the d in her name that you had missed, “Come little one, let’s get you all cleaned up,” she said taking you in her arms and bringing you both into the bathroom.
To her surprise, you had no negative reaction to waking up in a completely different environment. You felt safe with Wanda, and the room you were in was so much nicer than the cell you had been confined to that you didn’t see a reason to be scared.
“Where are we?” you questioned, knowing you were no longer at the Hydra base, or at least nowhere that you had ever seen.
“We are at the Avengers Compound,” Wanda explained, “This is my bedroom,” she continued as she took your clothes off, plopping them in the laundry bin and getting you settled into the tub.
“A-bengers?”
“Yes, have you heard of them before, Y/N?” Wanda wondered how much you knew
“No, neber”
“Well, the Avengers are superheroes, they save people.”
You let the words sink in as Wanda lathered soap into a cloth, “Abengers saved me?” you tried putting the pieces together.
“We did,” Wanda began, rubbing the soft soap-filled cloth along your shoulders, “and no one will ever hurt you again.” Your gaze traveled upward to meet hers as a small smile crept onto your face.
The feeling of being in a bath again made you so happy. The last time you had a bath, you were with your mother. Just being in the tub again brought back feelings of comfort. Wanda took her time to be gentle with you as she knew it was going to be a long bath. You had so much grime build-up in your hair from being neglected in a cell that she wasn’t sure if it would be best to just cut it off. Even though you needed extreme cleaning, she didn’t want to overwhelm you on your first day either. As long as she could get you clean enough to feel comfortable she would accept it for the time being.
You continue to learn more about the avengers throughout your bath as you asked Wanda lots of questions. Your personality was finally getting to show itself, after almost a year of being buried.
“Friday, can you ask Nat to bring Y/Ns clothes upstairs?” Wanda called out to the AI intercom, “Sure thing, Ms. Maximoff!” it quickly notated.
Your eyes widened and your face lifted at the robot's voice, “Who’s dat?” you pointed in the air to try and pinpoint the direction of the voice
“That is Friday, she’s like uh- a robot assistant”
It doesn’t take long for Natasha to arrive with your clothes, “How’d it go?” she asks peering into the bathroom before walking in.
“It went great! Y/N did so well!” she says beaming you with the brightest smile. The two girls get you dressed and bring you back into the bedroom.
Tumblr media
“She's a weapon and she needs to be handed over to the right people.” the three of you overheard Steve’s take on your custody as you entered the common room in Wanda’s arms. The redhead felt your body tense up as soon as the other Avengers came into view, “it’s ok malyshka, no one will hurt you here” she whispered toward you in an attempt to calm the anxiety that she knew was brewing within you. You nuzzled into her neck in response, feeling safe in her hold.
“She’s not a weapon, she’s a child,” Natasha cut into Steve’s conversation with Tony, better her than Wanda for Steve’s sake, “have some compassion, Rogers”
“-with unchecked powers that could destroy this planet” Steve added,
“So we keep them in check,” Nat stated without hesitation.
“You’re not seriously considering keeping her here?” Steve shifted his weight to turn his attention to Natasha.
“Why not? It’s the perfect place for her to learn how to control her powers.” A wave of relief washed over Wanda to see that she wasn’t the only one wanting to keep you around.
“Because we aren’t running a daycare” Steve doesn’t let up, “She needs to be handed over to Fury.”
“Yea, well Wanda and I both know what it’s like to be experimented on at a young age, it’s not something you just get over. We have a real chance to give her a better life, teach her how to control her gifts, and make sure no one ever hurts her again.”
“She’s staying here, and if Fury has an issue with that, he can come find me.” Wanda snarls as she walks through the common room with you toward the theatre.
Tumblr media
Wanda sat you down in one of the La-Z-Boy chairs in the front row as she set up the movie, “any requests, malyshka?” wanda offered as she scrolled through some options on the screen
Your face lit up at the sight of the golden dog, “Doggy!” you exclaim with an outstretched arm towards the screen.
Your reaction causes a chuckle from Wanda, “Dug Days it is.” She smiled as she started the first episode.
The show had you on the edge of your seat, excited about what shenanigans the dog would be up to. It felt so good for you to finally be able to act like a kid again. You couldn’t help the thoughts swirling in the back of your brain of going back to the bad place. Before Wanda had a chance to start the next episode, you blurted out, ”Dey want me to leave?”
“What?”
“Da man, is he gonna make me leave?” you meet her gaze with doe wide eyes.
“No sweetie, this is your home now.” she gently assured you as she rubbed your back.
“Really? Home?” you tested the word once more now that it had real meaning to you.
“Yes, come here” Wanda lifted the armrest that separated the two of you and wrapped her left arm around your shoulder allowing you to snuggle into her side as she clicked play on the next episode.

The Avengers compound hummed with activity as the team prepared for an important mission. The team was tasked with thwarting an imminent threat from a nefarious group seeking to exploit a powerful artifact. As the team gathered their gear and reviewed their plans, you watched with wide-eyed fascination. You wanted nothing more than to be part of the action, like your superhero guardians.
Wanda crouched down to your eye level. "Remember, sweetie, this mission is too dangerous for you. You'll stay here with Nat," she said, her voice filled with motherly concern as she saw the sparkle in your eye as you fantasized about being with the team.
You pouted but reluctantly nodded. You understood the dangers, but that didn't stop you from feeling left out. "Okay, Mama."
The mission was set to begin at sunset. As the Avengers geared up and made their final preparations, you watched from the sidelines. Wanda and Nat had promised to keep you safe, and they both took that promise seriously.
With a heavy heart, Wanda glanced at you. "I know you're disappointed, love, but I need you to stay here. It's just too risky for you."
Your big, innocent eyes filled with tears. You understood the need for safety, but your heart ached to be with your beloved Mama. "I'm scared, Mama." you mumbled out barely above a whisper.
Wanda's heart clenched at the vulnerability in your voice. She knelt down and hugged you tightly. "I promise Nat will protect you, Y/N. Nothing will happen to you, I swear."
“Not me, you.” You explained. You had no reason to worry about your own safety, but Wanda was going on a grave mission, you couldn’t help but worry that something may happen.
“Me? Detka, I’ll be ok. We all have each other’s back.” Wanda assured you, she hadn’t even thought about her own safety to be frank, too busy worrying about how you would react to being without her. Though, maybe that’s what motherhood is all about, always putting your child first. Their feelings, their happiness, and their safety.
“Pwomise?” you wondered looking up at Wanda with doe wide eyes and pure innocence.
“I promise that I will do everything in my power to come home to you safe and sound.” She clarified. Even though unlikely, Wanda couldn't bring herself to make a promise she didn’t have the full power to keep. There was always a chance something could happen to her in missions like these and you both knew it.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the Avengers embarked on their mission. You and Nat standing by watching them depart, your small hand tightly gripping Nataha’s. The compound felt empty and eerily quiet without the usual banter and laughter of the team.
Hours passed, and the tension in the compound grew palpable. Nat kept one eye on the security feeds, monitoring the team's progress. Unable to sleep, you pushed any hesitation you still harbored for Nat aside as you clung to her side like a lifeline. The minutes stretched into hours as you tried to find comfort in your stuffed animal and Natasha’s closeness.
Taking Natasha’s attention away from monitoring the team, an emergency alert blared through the compound. Her heart skipped a beat as she read the message: " Multiple intruders detected. High Alert. Seek safety immediately."
Normally this wouldn’t phase Natasha, but with you to protect, fear gripped her nervous system, and she scooped you into her arms. "Stay close, kid. We need to go to the safe room." With you in tow, she rushed through the corridors, heart pounding with dread. Her first priority was getting you to safety, “How many are we looking at FRIDAY?” she said aloud to the Artificial Assistant.
“I count 7 armed soldiers and 2 unarmed, Miss Romanoff. Would you like me to deploy the nano recon drones for more real-time data of the base?” FRIDAY responded with limited emotion in her voice.
“Deploy the recons and the defense droids, and notify Fury!” she demanded as continued to rush you to safety. On the verge of tears, you waverly spoke, “Natty? What noise is dat?”
“We just need to go to the safe room, Y/N. Someone is here,” she explained as she tactically rushed you across the compound.
You wanted to ask who, but soon enough, you couldn't hold back your tears anymore. The loud noise, the frantic state that Nat was in, and the lack of Wanda all came crashing over you. Even when Natasha seemingly kept her cool as she checked corners and cleared hallways before ushering you along, you could tell that something was very wrong.
“Shhh, everything is going to be okay, I’m not going to let anything happen to you, ok?” Nat tried to reassure you but your tears continued to fall.
Once you got to the safe room, Natasha instructed you not to let anyone else in, no matter who they said they were and to be as silent as you could, before rushing back out to take control back of the building.
“Any idea on what their play is here?” she questioned FRIDAY, trying to put the pieces together, as she left you to gather the weapons she needed to take on such a group. There was nothing on the radar that would’ve led the team to foresee this event happening. Especially now, when everyone is away.
“Intent is Unknown,” FRIDAY informed.
Was that it? Everyone is away, in fact, everything they’d been following for the last 2 months pointed toward this weekend in Glasgow. Was it a distraction?
Pulled from her thoughts, Tony’s name came buzzing through her phone. “Romanoff,” Nat greeted like any other phone call as if she wasn’t in the middle of a dire situation.
“Nat, everything ok there? I’m seeing alerts come through.” Tony queried, optimistically hoping something may have unintentionally triggered the alarms, even though he had taken extra precautions to block unintentional triggers.
“Here? Oh yeah, everything is great. You know, except the gang of at least 9 trying to take over the compound. Peachy, really.” Nat sarcastically replied, she wasn’t upset with Tony, but it was one of her coping mechanisms in times like this, “How’s everything in your neck of the woods?” she wondered, trying to see if her theory had any ground.
“Surprisingly quiet. I’m sending you some help,” Tony said as he deployed suits and more equipment to help fight alongside Natasha.
“Thanks, I have a feeling Glasgow was a distraction,” she uttered as she marched toward the invaders.
Tumblr media
Amidst the dimly lit corridors of the Avengers' high-tech compound, The Black Widow stood alone. The emergency alarms blared in the background, casting eerie crimson lights that danced across her sleek black suit. The once-peaceful sanctuary had been infiltrated by a group of highly trained armed guards, and Natasha was the last line of defense.
“Hey, Fellas!” Nat cheekily shouted towards them
The guards, clad in tactical gear and armed to the teeth, advanced on Natasha with cold determination. They moved in unison, their footsteps echoing ominously against the cold, metallic floors. Natasha could hear their synchronized breaths, a chilling reminder that she was outnumbered.
With a flick of her wrist, Natasha activated her Widow's Bite, sending electrifying shocks coursing through her fingertips. The room's lights momentarily flickered, casting eerie shadows as her attackers closed in.
The first guard lunged forward, wielding a baton. Natasha sidestepped his attack with grace, her movements fluid as water. She delivered a swift kick to his chest, sending him crashing into his comrades.
A second guard opened fire with an assault rifle, spraying bullets in Natasha's direction. She rolled behind a nearby pillar, bullets whizzing past her. Her keen reflexes and agility kept her one step ahead of the deadly hail of gunfire.
From the shadows, she launched a pair of electrified Widow's Bite disks. They struck two guards, incapacitating them instantly. The room was filled with the acrid smell of burnt fabric as their uniforms smoked.
Tumblr media
Amidst the chaos of the compound invasion, as Natasha fought valiantly to protect their home, a sudden surge of determination welled up within you. Being safely tucked away in the secure room, you could hear the sounds of the struggle outside and it gnawed at you, filling your mind with a mixture of fear and courage. What if something happened to Nat? You could prevent it.
With small, trembling hands, you pushed open the heavy door of the safe room. Your heart pounding in your chest as you took hesitant steps toward the fray. You watched Natasha, in her awe-inspiring Black Widow suit, fighting against the row of heavily armed intruders with incredible skill.
Then, You watched her take some punches and you couldn't just stand there. You have powers too, powers you’re still learning to control. With a deep breath, you focused your thoughts, trying to remember what Wanda had taught you about harnessing your abilities.
As the guards closed in on Natasha, your eyes glowed with a faint, cyan hue. Your small hands extended outward, palms out, and concentrated. Vibratory waves emanated from your palm, a powerful force that rippled through the air like invisible shockwaves.
The sudden disturbance caught the invaders off guard. Staggering and stumbling back, their weapons falling from their hands as they tried to maintain their balance. Natasha seized the opportunity, delivering swift and precise blows to disarm them.
But in your determination to help, you had left yourself vulnerable. One of the guards managed to regain his composure and, in a desperate act, fired his weapon in your direction. The shot rang out, and a searing pain lanced through your left shoulder.
Before Natasha could even catch sight of the bullet, you were on the ground crying in pain. Both Tony’s drone and Natasha swiftly subdued the last of the guards and she rushed to your side. Her heart ached with worry as she gently cradled you in her arms.
Tumblr media
As soon as the bullet made impact, Wanda could sense that something wasn’t right, even from miles away. It was as though an invisible thread had been pulled taut, stretching across the miles that separated you. Her brow furrowed in concern as she continued to sense that something was terribly wrong back at the compound. She couldn't put her finger on it, but her maternal instincts told her that you were in danger.
Wanda began running through every option she has to get to you. Would using her powers be faster? What if she used her powers on the jet, could she make it go quicker without overloading the engines?
After weighing her options, she went with the latter. The team had already reversed course once they discovered it was a set up, “Hang on tight,” she said before supercharging the engines.
“Wanda, what are you doing?” Clint managed to get out as he was smushed against his seat from the G-Force.
“Y/N is hurt. I can feel it.”
Tumblr media
When she finally arrived at the compound, her fears were realized. The sight that greeted her was both heart-wrenching and heartwarming. She found Natasha cradling you in her arms, your face contorted in pain but also displaying a remarkable resilience.
Wanda rushed to your side, her eyes filled with concern. "Y/N! Natasha!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling. She knelt beside you, “Are you hurt?” she frantically asked, her hands glowing with a soft, soothing light as she assessed the extent of your injuries.
Natasha looked up, relief washing over her features as she saw Wanda. "Wanda, i’m sorry, i- i’m so sorry, i put her in the safe room and she tried to help-," Natasha explained, her voice laced with fear of wandas wrath and admiration for your bravery. "She used her powers to protect us, but she got hurt in the process."
“Mama, miss you!” you gasped through clenched teeth.
Wanda's heart swelled with a mixture of pride and concern as she looked down at you. Gently stroking your forehead, she used her powers to ease the pain. "You're so brave, little one," she whispered, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm here now, and I'll make sure you're okay."
Though clearly in pain, you managed a weak but heartfelt smile as you looked up at Wanda.
Even though Wanda was upset that you were caught in the crossfire, she couldn’t blame Natasha. She understood that Natasha, like herself, cares deeply for your well-being and did everything in her power to protect you during the invasion. The priority for both of them was getting you fixed up.
Tumblr media
Wanda paced nervously alongside Natasha in the compound's infirmary while you lay on a medical bed, receiving treatment for the gunshot wound.
Natasha reached out to gently place a hand on Wanda's shoulder. "She's going to be okay, Wanda. The doctors are doing everything they can."
Wanda nodded, but her brow was furrowed with concern. "I know, Nat. I just can't believe she came out of that safe room. She's so young, and she shouldn't have been in danger."
Natasha sighed, understanding Wanda's anxiety. "I get it, Wanda. I tried to keep her safe, but she's got that Stark stubbornness, you know? She was determined to help."
Wanda looked at Natasha with a mix of gratitude and worry. "I appreciate that you were here to protect her, I just wish it was different, I wish I had been here, we should have been more careful. She's just a child."
Natasha nodded in agreement. "You're right, Wanda. We should have been more careful about sending everyone on a wild goose chase. But you know how determined she can be. She wanted to help because she’s seen you and me doing what we do."
Wanda sighed, her shoulders slumping with fatigue and relief. "I know, and I'm proud of her courage, but I, I just hate to see her in danger like this. She can’t take after us, I never want her to be in danger again."
Natasha squeezed Wanda's shoulder reassuringly. "We'll keep her safe, Wanda. We're a team, remember? And we'll make sure she knows the importance of staying out of harm's way."
Wanda finally met Natasha's gaze, and there was a softness in her eyes. "Thank you, Nat, for protecting her. I don't know what I would have done if something had happened to her."
Natasha smiled gently. "We're her family, Wanda. We'll always do whatever it takes to keep her safe." she noted as she enveloped Wanda in a comforting embrace. Sinking into the hug, Wanda clung to Nat as she buried her face into her neck and relaxed into the arms of her lover.
As they continued to watch over your recovery, the couple knew that they would need to work together to ensure a balance between protecting the child they loved and nurturing your independence and bravery.

"I can't protect you."
"I don't know how much longer I can do this."
With Wanda saying both lines and if you could add a 'both' after you in first one.
And maybe its wanda being worried for yn who's pregnant with their daughter about whether she's strong enough to protect them both, and contemplating turning herself in to protect them. Or being retired but still being called. Something along those lines of whatever takes your fancy :D just happy ending tho lol
Thank you

The Avengers had faced countless battles, but this one was different. The enemy was more formidable, and the stakes had never been higher. It almost seemed as if all those previous fights led them to this one. After years of searching for leads and extracting moles from their own organization, they knew the new information that they extracted would lead to something big.
In the midst of the chaos and devastation, a blue streak appeared rushing past the front lines. Too quick to even make out anything, but before anyone could even react, a powerful blast struck the battlefield, sending shock waves through the Avengers' ranks. Wanda, not having time to notice the action, was thrown to the ground, her world spinning. She desperately looked around for you, panic gripping her heart.
It took agonizing moments for Wanda to locate her wife amidst the smoke and rubble. You lay motionless, buried beneath a pile of debris. Wanda's heart nearly stopped as she rushed to your side, using her powers to clear the wreckage as quickly as she could.
When Wanda finally reached you, you were pale and unconscious. Fear coursed through her like a tidal wave. Desperate, she cradled your limp form in her arms, her voice shaking as she called for help.
The battle raged on around them, but Wanda was oblivious to it all. She focused all her energy on protecting you, her mind consumed by the thought of losing the love of her life. Her emotions got the best of her as she sat there helplessly by your side. In an explosion of her power, the battle wrapped up instantly. Her only thought was to get you somewhere safe.
In the aftermath of the battle, you were rushed to the hospital, battered and bruised, but miraculously alive. The relief that washed over Wanda was almost unbearable, but it was short-lived.
Read here for part 1.5 (takes place here)
As Wanda sat by your bedside, days passed before you regained consciousness. On the third day, you groggily opened your eyes as you gently rubbed your thumb against Wanda’s hand as she held yours tightly, you looked up at Wanda with a weak smile. "Detka, oh thank god." she let out relieved to see your eyes again as she smothered you in a tight hug. Never wanting to let you go again. Tears welled up in Wanda's eyes as she leaned down to kiss you's forehead. "I thought I had lost you," she whispered, her voice trembling.
You reached out to cup Wanda's cheek, her touch gentle and loving. "You'll always protect me, Wanda. That's what you do."
But Wanda's relief was tainted by a new fear that had taken root in her heart. She had been so close to losing you, and now, as they faced the reality of the situation, she couldn't escape the overwhelming anxiety that had been building inside her, “I don't know how much longer I can do this." Wanda whispered, almost ashamed. The last thing she wanted was to lose you, but somewhere in her heart, she truly felt you would be safer without her.
“What? Wanda, what do you mean?” Still a bit groggy, you weren’t sure where this was coming from, what you had done to make her feel this way.
"I can't protect you both," Wanda finally admitted, her voice barely audible. She placed a trembling hand on your stomach, her eyes filled with fear and uncertainty.
Your brow furrowed in confusion. "Wanda, what are you talking about?"
“It worked. We’re pregnant.” Tears streamed down Wanda's cheeks as she tried to explain. "I'm scared, Y/N. Scared that my powers, my life, will put you and our child in danger. I can't bear the thought of losing you both." She rambled on as you were still processing the new information.
Your expression softened with understanding. She reached for Wanda's hand, intertwining their fingers. "Wanda, we'll face this together. We always do, and little Benji will be even stronger for that."
At the sound of the name you had chosen for your child, Wanda perked up as if instantly forgetting all the fears she was harboring, “Benji?” She nearly snapped, “What are we giving birth to, a dog?”
You knew the name would get a rise out of your wife, and just as you expected, you were able to distract her from the fear she was spiraling into as you pondered on a name, “Oh, you think you can do better, Ms Maximoff?”
“Eh ehm, that’s Mrs. Maximoff to you, and yes absolutely. What about Tommy?” she reasoned.
“Hmm, I like Timmy better.” You didn't really, in fact, you loved the name Tommy, but you just liked to get under Wanda’s skin a bit in any playful way that you could.
The night that you were released from the hospital, you had both decided to spend a quiet evening at home. Wanda had ordered your favorite takeout, and the cozy aroma of food filled your living room as you snuggled up on the couch, blankets draped over your laps.
Wanda leaned into you, resting her head on your shoulder. In return, you wrapped your arm around Wanda, pulling her close. You both let out contented sighs, reveling in the comfort of each other's presence.
As the two of you ate, Wanda couldn't help but steal glances at you. You were radiant, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm light on your features. Wanda reached out and traced a gentle finger along your jawline, her touch feather-light.
You turned to look at Wanda, a soft smile playing on her lips. "What's on your mind, love?"
Wanda blushed, her cheeks turning a faint shade of scarlet. "Just how lucky I am to have you."
Your smile widened, and you leaned in to place a sweet kiss on Wanda's lips. "The feeling is mutual, baby."
They continued to eat, their conversation drifting from the mundane to the profound. Wanda's fingers found their way to yours, as you interlocked them, your hands fitting together like pieces of a perfect puzzle.
After you finished eating, the two of you were sitting on the couch snuggled in each other's arms when Wanda decided now was a good time to bring up something that had been bothering her, “Y/N?”
You leaned into her further in response, “Hmm?” you acknowledged.
“What do you remember about the battle?” she wondered.
“Oh, uhm. I think I remember it all. We were fighting the soldiers at the peak of the hill when there was an explosion.” You explained from what you could recall, “After that, I woke up with you by my side.”
“Do you remember what caused the explosion?” Wanda pushed.
“I don’t, oh! I remember something weird happening. Like a light or something.” You tried your best to give her the answers that she was looking for.
“There was a blue streak of light and then an explosion before we knew it. It was him.” She softly said, knowing you might think she was out of her mind for thinking this, but if anyone would believe her, it was going to be you.
“Who?” you weren’t sure where she was going with this.
“My brother.” she said just above a whisper, “I know it was, you have to trust me. I could feel it. When they said he was dead I- I never believed them and you knew that.” She tried to get the information out as quickly as she could, worrying you were going to cut her off and dismiss her like all the other Avengers often did. It was easy for them to chalk her feelings up to denial, as it was just a part of the grieving process.
You weren’t like the other Avengers though, you trusted your wife, “You really think so?” you said pulling back and catching her eyeline.
“I know it was him.” She said confidently.
“Where do we go from here?” you asked. Not knowing what she had in mind, especially with a baby on the way, “Why was he attacking us?” you wondered further.
“I’m not sure. Do you think they’ll believe me?” she asked, wondering how the rest of the team would react to her theory.
“If you’re sure it was him, they'll come around. I’m sure of it.” You matched her confidence. Knowing that even if they dismissed her, you would be able to persuade them.
Wanda nuzzled her wife's neck, breathing in your familiar scent. "You know," she whispered, "every moment with you feels like magic."
You chuckled softly, your heart swelling with affection. "You're the magic in my life, Wanda."
As you gazed into each other's eyes, Wanda pressed her lips to yours once more. This time, the kiss deepened, a gentle dance of love and devotion. In that quiet, intimate moment, you found solace, knowing that your love was the most precious magic of all.

With all of the trauma that you had gone through thus far, one thing that you clung to like a security blanket was the habit of sucking your thumb. Wanda saw this as it happened but she acknowledged that it was normal for children your age to take part in such a coping mechanism so she didn’t bother interrupting your actions until now. She wanted to give you other ways to draw comfort from so that you wouldn’t become dependent on the action for so long that you can’t break it when you begin to lose your baby teeth.
Natasha and Wanda brainstormed different strategies to help you break this habit, knowing it was important for her dental health and overall well-being. Their first attempt you could call the gentle approach. Together they agreed that the next time they saw you take part in the action they would try to talk you out of it.
The opportunity first presented itself to Natasha as she was sitting with you in the common room watching cartoons. She sat next to you, her voice filled with warmth and understanding. "Sweetie, sucking your thumb isn’t healthy.  We can work together to break this bad habit. How about we find a special toy or stuffed animal to cuddle with instead? Whenever you feel the urge to suck your thumb, you can hold onto your new friend."
You nodded, your eyes bright with enthusiasm. Together, you searched for the perfect companion—a fluffy teddy bear named Benny. You clutched Benny close, finding comfort in his soft embrace. Though the thumb-sucking lessened, it still lingered as a deeply ingrained habit.
Sometimes it happened without you even realizing it, and other times, well, you just couldn't help yourself. Whenever Wanda or Nat noticed you sucking your thumb, they gently reminded you to take it out and explained the reasons why it's important to stop. They spoke about how it could affect your teeth and shared stories of other children who successfully stopped thumb-sucking.
“Y/N, detka, come here,” Wanda cooed as she gently took your thumb from your mouth and cuddled you into her side, “Do you remember what Nat told you about sucking your thumb?”
You nodded, recalling your earlier interaction with Natasha, “Natty say, no good” you answered
Wanda confirmed your answer, “That’s right, what can you do instead of sucking your thumb?”
You thought long and hard trying to remember what Nat had suggested, “uhm- OH! BENNY!” You exclaimed as you scooted off of the couch and darted over to grab your cuddly stuffed bear and then return to Wanda. She couldn't help but smile at your excitement to substitute Benny for your bad habit.
Some days it wasn’t that easy though, you preferred sucking your thumb over any substitution that Nat and Wanda offered up. Despite Wanda and Nat's best efforts, there were times when you became particularly stubborn and refused to stop sucking on your thumb. They had tried other things like pacifiers and thumb guards, but eventually they always found you using your thumb instead.
One evening when Wanda and Nat sat down with you to have a calm conversation about the habit. They explained the reasons why it was important to stop and how it could affect her teeth and oral health as they had before. Their strategy was to help create awareness for you anytime you had fallen back on the habit. Nat had read in a parenting book that increasing the child's awareness of the habit can help them recognize when they do it unconsciously.
However, instead of listening attentively this time, you crossed your arms and stubbornly shook your head, "No, I no want stop," you declared defiantly with your thumb firmly pressed against the roof of your mouth.
Wanda exchanged a concerned glance with Nat, realizing that their usual techniques might not work this time. They knew they had to approach this situation differently, with a balance of firmness and understanding.
Wanda took a deep breath and knelt down to your level, gently taking both of your hands into her own. "Y/N, we understand that you enjoy sucking your thumb, but it's important for your teeth and overall health that we find a way to stop. We love you so much, and we want to help you grow up strong and healthy."
“NOO, MAMA!” you screeched as you ran away from both Wanda and Nat and headed up the stairs to your room, quickly scurrying under the covers to provide a barrier from eyesight when they inevitably would follow you into the room a few moments later.
The two women could tell that you were overtired and lashing out because of it. They debated whether the fight was worth it or if they should just let you sleep it off. In the end, they decided to give you time alone to cool off before they trailed upstairs behind you. Gently knocking at the door, they entered the room to find you passed out under the covers in the fetal position with your thumb in your mouth.
As adorable as they found you, It was time for them to come up with a new plan, instead of making you aware of the bad habit and hoping you would break it purely by recognizing it, or distraction. It was time to turn it into a game.
During breakfast the next morning, Wanda and Nat brought up your poor behavior the night before. It was important to them that you were aware of when your actions were inappropriate, and instead of scolding or grounding you, they simply spoke to you about it. It was a constructive conversation to help you learn that even though you feel tired, lashing out is not the proper way to handle things.
Of course, it’s expected at your age and they don’t fault you for it, but they know how smart and well-behaved you are typically. Wanda wanted to start nipping bad behavior in the bud as soon as it showed its face so that it didn’t end up spiraling out of control in the coming months.
"Y/N, we know change can be hard, and it's okay to feel unsure. But we believe in you, and we know you're capable of breaking this habit. Let's work together to find a solution that makes you feel comfortable." Nat said genuinely as the two of you chomped on pancakes.
Your expression softened as you looked into the caring eyes of Wanda and Nat. They had always been there for you, supporting you in every step of your journey. Slowly, you let out a sigh and nodded, signaling your willingness to explore alternatives. It’s not that you didn’t want to try for them, in fact, you have been, but bad habits are just so easy to fall back on.
Throughout breakfast, they explained a new system that they would implement. Wanda and Nat created a special "Thumb-Free" chart for you. Every day that you refrained from thumb-sucking, you would earn a star sticker. Once you collected a certain number of stars, you would receive a small reward or a special outing with Wanda and Nat. There would be different options of rewards that you could choose from and this made you excited for all the possibilities.  Through patience and understanding with you, Wanda and Nat helped you realize that breaking the habit was not about taking something away but instead, about gaining control and embracing new experiences.
In the weeks that followed, there were still moments of resistance, but Wanda and Nat continued to provide unwavering support. They reminded you of your own strength and encouraged you to persevere. With their love and patience, you slowly began to let go of the thumb-sucking habit, replacing it with healthier alternatives and finding comfort in their embrace.
It was a journey that required time, understanding, and a deep bond between the three of you. Through your collective efforts, they overcame your stubbornness and nurtured your growth and independence, reminding you that they would always be there to guide you through life's challenges with love and support.
As Wanda was organizing some books in the living room, she stumbled upon a stack of parenting books on the coffee table. Curiosity piqued, she picked one up and flipped through its pages. The book was filled with insights, advice, and practical tips for co-parenting.
Some of the pages were marked with highlighter and notes were written about your behavior in the margins. She immediately recognized this as Natasha’s handwriting. As Wanda delved deeper into the book, she couldn't help but feel a growing sense of admiration for Natasha. It wasn't just the fact that Natasha cared enough to educate herself on the intricacies of co-parenting, but also the realization that Natasha wanted to be the best guardian she could be for you.
A smile tugged at the corners of Wanda's lips as she thought about Natasha's dedication and the countless hours she must’ve spent studying those pages. She found it incredibly attractive to see someone so committed to their role as a co-parent, taking the time to understand and navigate the complexities of raising a child. Co-parent. Is that what they were? They hadn’t made it official but they sure were acting the roles.
In that moment, Wanda's heart swelled with affection for Natasha. She admired her friend's determination, compassion, and unwavering love for you. It made her see Natasha in a whole new light, awakening feelings that had been igniting more and more lately.
Unable to contain her excitement, Wanda hurriedly made her way to the kitchen, where she found Natasha preparing a snack for you. With a twinkle in her eyes, Wanda held the parenting book behind her back and teased, "Oh Nat, guess what I found?"
Natasha turned, curiosity evident in her eyes. "What is it, Wanda?"
Wanda grinned, her voice filled with affection. "I found these parenting books you've been reading. I had no idea you were so invested in co-parenting Y/N"
Natasha's cheeks flushed, a mix of surprise and sheepishness. "Oh, those... Yeah, I've been trying to gather as much knowledge as possible. I want to make sure we're doing everything we can for her.”
Wanda stepped closer, her gaze unwavering as she spoke slowly, "Natasha, your dedication to Y/N's well-being, your commitment to learning and growing as a co-parent—it's incredibly” attractive. She wanted to say it, but she swerved at the last second, “thoughtful” she blurted out and released eye contact as she internally scolded herself for almost going too far.
A moment of silence hung in the air as Natasha could tell that wasn’t the word she wanted to say. Figuring that the other word would be something along the lines of teasing, Natasha chose not to pry it out and instead took the compliment with a smile.

It had been a week since you were rescued by The Avengers, Wanda was very protective of you and gentle. She knew you were going through a mix of emotions as you got settled in. She had spent every day with you, never really leaving your side. You loved spending time with the redhead that rescued you, she made you feel a type of comfort that you haven’t had the fortune of receiving since you were a baby, being held tightly in your mother’s arms.
Today would be the first day Wanda left you alone for more than 10 minutes. It wasn’t by choice, but she had work to do that couldn’t be pushed off another day. She expected it to only take a couple of hours, so she took you to the common room with some of your favorite toys and asked FRIDAY to set up a live camera feed to her phone so she could keep an eye on you as she worked. It’s not that she didn’t trust Nat, in fact, quite the opposite. Out of all the residents at the compound, Natasha was the one Wanda trusted the most, it’s just that she can be a bit rough around the edges and has never really had much experience with children.
“I have some work to do, malyshka. Do you think you’ll be ok hanging out here with Natasha for a little while?” Wanda asked softly
“W-will you come back?” you muttered just above a whisper, not wanting to offend Natasha but at the same time worried about losing your favorite person.
“Yes, of course, moya lyubov, I’ll just be a couple of rooms over if you need me,” she promised as her fingers brushed the stray hairs from your face.
“Promise?”
“I promise. Peter should be back from school soon, maybe you two can continue your lightsaber battle,” she suggested. You loved spending time with Peter, he was really fun to play with and got really into your imaginary gameplay.
Your eyes instantly lit up at the mention of the high school boy, “Petey?!” you exclaimed.
Your smile was contagious and Wanda couldn't help but return one to you, “yes, now I’ll be just in that room there if you need anything” she points
You nod your head in response as you head over to the couch to sit with Nathasha as Wanda heads out of the room. There is a beat of silence as you’ve never been alone together and feel too shy to start a conversation, so you sit there awkwardly until Nat breaks the silence by asking if you want to play with your stuffies that Wanda left in the room with you. Keeping your focus down on your twiddling thumbs you shake your head in response.
“How about tv?” the redhead queries, as your gaze moves upward while you think over the option and then eventually look her way, “ok, can we watch uh, Bluey?”
“Sure thing,” Nat confirmed as she turned on the tv. You leaned back and relaxed into the couch as you watched your favorite blue dog on the screen. The songs were so catchy they usually got you excited as you sang along, but you just couldn’t find the energy to partake. After the first episode finishes you turn to Natasha with sleepy eyes, “Natty, m’tiwerd” You usually take a nap around this time.
Nat’s heart melted, she really didn’t like children but you were just too cute, “you are? Come here,” she lifted her right arm up so that you could nuzzle into her side. You snuggle in and get comfortable as she switches slowly between running her hands softly through your hair and drawing circles along your back as you drift off for a nap.
Tumblr media
Half an hour goes by and Nat has had the urge to go to the bathroom for 15 minutes now but she refuses to get up while you’re so soundly asleep against her side. In an attempt to keep herself distracted; she put the tv on low sound, so as not to wake you, but that's not enough anymore. At this point, she’s fidgeting with her fingers, trying not to make too much movement.
Just as she considered slithering out from under you to relieve herself, Peter came barrelling through the doorway with his schoolbag and laptop. Not so quietly plopping down at the counter with his schoolwork, you began to stir from your nap, “Petey?” you wonder groggily, unsure if that noise was him or someone else.
“Hey, Y/N” Peter waved from the counter
“Oh good, do you mind watching her for a few minutes?” Nat pleaded, darting out of the room without waiting for a response.
“Uh, sure” he replied to an empty doorway, hoping she would be quick because he really had to work on his school project for tomorrow.
Hopping off the couch, you made your way over to Peter and were instantly intrigued by the items strewn about on the counter, “Woah! What's dis?”
“It's a school project that’s due tomorrow, we have to recreate the solar system. Most of my class is just using styrofoam balls but I 3D printed these so they would be more detailed.” He explains excitedly
“Like the moon?” you ask as you climb up onto the seat next to Peter.
“Kind of, but we actually don’t have to include the moons. Just the planets and the sun.” He explains as he lays all the balls out in proper order.
“Isn’t da sun yellow?” you ask, confused why all the balls laid out on the counter are grey.
“Well, yea. I have to paint it. That was just the color of my material.”
“PAINT? Petey can I paint it?” you pleaded with an expression resembling a puppy dog.
“No, this is for school. I can’t have help” Peter responded, hoping that would deter you from pushing the request further.
“Ok,” you replied defeated, “I watch?”
“Yes, you can watch”
You watch Peter paint each ball of his model while you ask countless questions that pop into your brain. Not long after, Nat reenters the room. She glances over at you keeping Peter company and then sits back on the couch to continue watching tv.
Being brought to the compound was scary at first, but you were starting to get used to it. Peter and Wanda both did a great job of making you feel comfortable. You felt like you could start to open up around them and instead of shutting off your curiosity behind a barricaded wall, you let your personality and questions slowly seep through.
Peter did his best to answer all the questions you had, but sometimes it was a variety of, “why is the earth green and blue?” followed by, “where does the word blue come from?” and truthfully, he didn’t have the time or the answers for all of your questions.
While keeping his patience with each of your questions, soon enough, he finishes the coat of paint for each ball and assembles them onto the model.
“Why does dis one have an eyeball?” you ask reaching forward to point at Jupiter. Instead of just pointing at the planet, you end up bopping the side of the ball with the red circle. The action from your finger causes the ball to fall from its place on the wire and onto the floor where it cracks open.
You stood there in shock for what felt like forever but was really only a few seconds as Peter immediately scoops up the pieces to inspect the damage, “Why couldn’t you have just let it be, y/n?” he snaps, “you ask too many questions!”
The disdain in his voice causes your face to flush as tears start to fill in your eyes. You couldn’t run out of the room quick enough, you felt embarrassed and the only thing you wanted right now was Wanda. You wanted her to hold you and tell you everything is ok, you just wanted her to fix everything like she always seemed so good at doing. Most of all though, you wanted to get away from Peter. You could tell how angry he was with you.
Remembering the door Wanda pointed to hours earlier, you ran straight for it. Barging in without a second thought, you found Wanda sitting behind a desk and you continued to run up to her as tears began actively falling upon your cheeks. You ran with your arms outstretched, waiting to be enveloped in her embrace.
“Malyshka, what’s wrong?” Wanda was immediately concerned that you were crying.
“Petey… hate… me” you managed out through sobs and unsteady breaths
“Breathe y/n, calm down sweetie. You’re ok, What happened?” She did her best to calm you down by running her hand along your back and bouncing you slightly as she held you. Natasha joined the two of you in the doorway to try and help Wanda put the pieces together.
“I-I bwoke. I bwoke his homework, and now he hates me.” you continued to sob into the redhead’s neck.
It wasn’t long before Wanda got you to start breathing normally again as the shudders in your breath become fewer and further between.
“He doesn’t hate you, y/n” Natasha pipes up from the doorway
You whine into Wanda’s neck, not believing the Russian’s words. You saw him with your own eyes, he was angry and you’re sure he would never forgive you for breaking the planet that he worked so hard on.
“She’s right, malyshka,” she pulled away as she grabbed your shoulders gently and faced you in front of her to meet her gaze, “I know it was an accident, but I think you need to apologize to Peter for breaking his model” she explained.
“I don’t wanna,” you said shaking your head and moving your gaze downward. You didn’t want to face the boy again. In your mind, he has already written you off and never wants to see you again.
“You’re not sorry for breaking it?” Wanda clarified
You thought about her question for a moment, you were sorry. You felt horrible that you had broken something he worked so hard on, but you also felt embarrassed about the incident, “I am”
“Then you need to let him know,” she gently expressed, “there is nothing to be embarrassed about, malyshka, mistakes happen”
Her words made sense to you, even though you didn’t want to do it, you knew you had to. Just then, you heard a knock on the door. You look over and standing next to Nat is Peter, asking for entrance.
“Y/N, I’m sorry for snapping at you, I didn’t mean it” he apologizes as he steps into the office.
You turn on Wanda’s lap to face the door, “Petey,” you start glancing toward the floor, “I-I sorry for bwreaking your homework.”
“It’s ok, I can fix it. I know it was just an accident, but I still shouldn’t have snapped at you. I didn’t mean it, I love your questions and-” the boy begins to ramble with no sign of stopping before you cut him off, “is okay!” you exclaim as you run up and hug him in hopes that he will stop rambling.

“It sounds like a good opportunity, I don’t think it’s ever really too early to start” Nat urged.
“I guess, but she’s just so young,” Wanda claimed as she moved to join her friend on the couch.
“They’ll all be her age, it’s just for a week,” Nat insisted.
Nat had found a program for young children to learn science and math for a week, it was kind of like a day camp. The parents would drop off the young children daily for 4 hours of hands-on learning. She thought this would be good for you since you have been following very closely in Peter’s footsteps when it comes to his interest in math and science. It would also introduce you to a school setting so that it isn’t so far out of your comfort zone next year when you go to attend preschool.
To be truthful, you and Wanda were all Nat could think about lately. She wanted so badly to be there for you two, to help you achieve success and be given opportunities that she could’ve only dreamed of at your age. This sent her down a rabbit hole searching for events or activities you could take part in. Most of them were geared toward older children, but the science camp stated all ages so she jumped on it.
Wanda was hesitant about the program, she didn’t want to push school onto you too early. You should be able to enjoy the time before it completely takes over your life for 14+ years. Nat had a point though, it’s only a week and you would probably really love it. She wasn’t sure how you would react to being left without her all day though, hopefully, now that you have been coming out of your shell the process would be easier but it was hard to say.
Though, it’s inevitable that this will need to happen eventually. One week of practice would be helpful to smooth out the process once it's mandatory. Wanda really admired the way Nat was so enthusiastic about this program, like the way her voice became more animated and expressive. Wanda could hear the slight rise in her tone as she described the activities that you’d get to experience, and the way she leaned closer in proximity to show off the different amenities on the webpage had Wanda holding her breath and overthinking every little movement of her body. As she got lost in the sparkle in Natasha’s eyes, she couldn't help but scrutinize herself for making everything so awkward, ‘don’t move, don’t breathe. Okay, breathe but slowly. Does she notice? why is this making me feel this way? It’s not like we’ve never been close to each other before.’
“What do you think?” Nat jolted her from her spiraling thoughts, both mentally and slightly physically as Wanda startlingly looked at her. Of course, she hadn’t been paying attention to a thing Nat was saying, but she couldn’t know that.
“Hmm, yea that sounds great,” she admitted, hoping she hadn’t just agreed to send you to a shield boot camp or something that only Natasha would find fun.
“Really?” Nat was beaming at the fact that Wanda liked her idea and genuinely hoped you would have a great time.
“Ye- yea, I mean, it’s just a week and she’s going to have to get used to spending time without us.” Wanda went on to explain.
Natasha's heart skipped a beat. Us. She knew what Wanda meant by it and even though she recognized it wasn’t anything that she should read into, Nat couldn't help but analyze it. Such a simple phrase, but it had the prospect to hold so much meaning. Wanda had included her in her vision of your future, as a unit, as us. In reality, Wanda knew Natasha would always be there for you, but Natasha couldn’t help but feel a wave of warmth and happiness wash over her at the thought of it meaning something more, causing her cheeks to flush and a smile to form on her face.
Tumblr media
When Wanda and Nat told you about the camp, you were initially really excited, until you found out that you’d have to go alone. Sure, they would drop you off, but then they would leave, and then, who would protect you if something went wrong? Who would be there to hold you when you got nervous around the crowd of unfamiliar faces?
“Mama?” you broke the silence as you sat snuggled into her side on the couch of the common room, enveloped in mostly darkness except for the soft glow from the television.
“Yes, detka?” she glanced down at you as your head tilted up to meet your eyes with hers.
“Do I have to go to da sciewence schoowl?” you asked softly, just barely above a whisper, not wanting to make trouble but you couldn’t get the fact that you would have to go alone out of your mind.
Wanda immediately shifted her full attention to you in an attempt to create a safe and open space for you to express your worries, “I thought you were excited?”
“Well, I am- I was, but, I don't want to go wiffout you or Natty.” you admitted as you translated your fears from thoughts into words.
"I see, I understand that you're feeling nervous about going without us, and that's completely okay, my love. It's natural to feel a little anxious when we step out of our comfort zone," she said as she gently rubbed your arm in soothing motions. She wanted to help you work through these feelings instead of blocking off new opportunities due to fear. In the end, she wouldn’t force you to go, but she would do everything she could to get you open to the experience.
“You know, even adults get feelings like these when they're about to try something new or go to unfamiliar places. I remember when I first joined the Avengers, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. But you know what?”
“What?”
“It turned out to be an incredible journey filled with wonderful people and unforgettable adventures. I got to meet my two favorite people in the whole world"
“Me?” your expression shifted from nervous to curious, as you wondered where Wanda was going with this.
“Yes you, and Nat,” she says unable to mask the smile that forms near automatically from the mention of her best friend.
“What if, der is no one der for me?” you wonder
"You will have so many other kids there that are your age that you can make friends with, malysh"
“What if dey don’t wike me?” You were genuinely worried about meeting other kids your age. You’ve only ever been around adults and you weren’t quite sure what to expect. Would they all already know each other? Would there be a certain way you were expected to act around them?
"What’s not to like? You have the kindest heart and the most beautiful spirit of anyone I know.” she was speaking from the heart as she genuinely believed what she told you. Wanda watched you go from this scared little girl who was being held captive in a Hydra base to a kid who gets excited to talk about the solar system and wildlife habitats with Peter. She watched you open up and accept these people, even the men on the team,  into your life despite your wariness. She’s sure you are capable of anything you really put your mind to, “Making friends has one simple rule and if you follow it, it's practically foolproof, do you know what that is?”
You just shook your head in response, waiting for her to continue.
“Just be yourself. If you do that you'll attract real friends who appreciate you for who you are," she said as she tapped your chest, pointing to your heart.
“Be myself?” you wondered what it meant as you repeated the words on your own tongue. You don’t recall ever acting like someone else. “Who else would I be?”
Wanda couldn't help but chuckle at your innocence and how cute you were, “Some people try to change for others. They change their personalities, their opinions, and sometimes even their looks just to fit in with other people.”
“Oh. so, wike, pwetending?”
"Exactly! You are capable of so much more than you realize, my little one. Have faith in yourself."
You thought over her words as the show continued to play in front of you on the TV. You were so close to being on board with it, but you couldn’t get over the possibility of being stuck there without a way out. The way Wanda spoke so highly of you, gave you the confidence you needed to believe you could make friends, but what if everything really did go horribly wrong, would you be stuck there all day?
“Mama?” you continued the conversation after a few minutes of watching tv had passed.
“Hmm?”
“I want to go to da sciewence schoowl, but what if I need you when I der?”
Wanda thought about this for a moment, You're far too young to have a cell phone, but a communication line wouldn’t be such a bad thing for you. It could help calm your anxiety and in her line of work, anything could happen so it would make things safer.
“Well, if there is something really important, you can tell your teacher and she can get ahold of me,” Wanda explained. You didn’t seem too satisfied with that answer though as you gave a somber acknowledgment. What if you weren't able to get the teacher's attention, or the teacher just plain refused, the plan just didn't seem very solid.
Wanda could see that you weren’t content with her solution, “Or I can show you a trick,” she offered.
Your face perked up, immediately intrigued, your little hands clutching a stuffed toy tightly, gazed up at Wanda with wide-eyed wonder, “a trick?” you asked
“Close your eyes, my little one,” Wanda explained and you did as she instructed, “now, take a deep breath. Imagine a warm light surrounding us, enveloping us like a soft, protective blanket. or a big fluffy cloud”
As you sat with your eyes closed, a serene smile graced Wanda's face. She concentrated, allowing her own powers to flow through her, and extended her thoughts toward you. With a gentle touch of her mind, she created a bridge between your thoughts, a telepathic connection unique to you.
"Now, detka," Wanda whispered, "I want you to think of something you want to tell me, but without saying it out loud. Just focus on the feeling and the words in your mind."
Your brows furrowed and your face scrunched in concentration, your little face reflecting the effort of trying to convey your thoughts through this newfound connection. Wanda could feel your tiny mind reaching out tentatively, like a fragile thread stretching between the two of you.
With each passing moment, the connection grew stronger, and soon your eyes fluttered open, revealing a mixture of surprise and delight. "Mama, can you hear me?" your innocent voice echoed softly between your minds, blending with the quiet hum of the room.
Wanda's heart swelled with joy as she nodded, her eyes shimmering with pride. "Yes, dorogoy, I can hear you!" she exclaimed, "Our thoughts are connected now, and no matter where we are, we can talk to each other like this. Whenever you need me, I will be there for you,” she explained.
In that magical moment, your minds intertwined, You two shared a connection that transcended words. With telepathy, you could communicate your deepest thoughts, dreams, and feelings, strengthening the unbreakable bond between mother and child. Perhaps most importantly to you though, you were able to reach Wanda without the confines of distance.
As you sat there, immersed in your newfound ability, Wanda couldn't help but marvel at the wonder of it all. She knew that this telepathic connection would serve as a source of comfort and reassurance for you, a constant reminder that you were always connected, even when physically apart.
With that, you were content with the decision to attend the science camp. Not only that, but you were excited again. Instead of focusing on the parts that worried you, you were able to shift your focus onto all the exciting things you were bound to learn and discover. Your mind ran wild with outrageous theories, like discovering fossils or trying to figure out the speed of a flamingo by simply racing beside it.

The first day of camp approached rather quickly. In the days leading up, you would often use your new ability to have silent conversations with Wanda. Sometimes you would do it to practice and make sure that you still could when you needed to, and other times you did it to express feelings and emotions that you had trouble translating into words.
Wanda and Nat were both there to drop you off on your first day, you were less nervous than they expected you to be which they were grateful for. Now that you were able to contact Wanda you felt safe in exploring new experiences alone, and maybe that's because you never felt alone, because she would always be there for you if you needed.
The camp was divided into different age groups. The majority of the kids were 4th and 5th graders, but there was a small group of children your age. Wanda and Nat were grateful that you would have enough children to socialize with but not so many that it would seem overwhelming. Hopefully, with the smaller group, it would be easier to make friends.
In fact, you didn't even get to the classroom before you made your first friend, “Hi, I’m Matthew, what's your name?” you turned to the voice that spoke behind you, “Hi! I’m Y/N” you greeted. “Y/N! Dat’s a cool name! You wike space too? I wove space!” he mentioned as he noticed your shirt that showed a playful astronaut floating in space, holding a slice of pizza in one hand and giving a thumbs-up with the other reading Pizza Planet Explorer, “Wanna be fwreinds?” he asked.
You were caught off guard by how quickly he spoke and became distracted, but of course, you wanted to make friends and you already had something in common, “Yes, we can be fwreinds, I love space too. My favowite planet is Saturn” you enthusiastically replied.
“I wike Jupiter da most cuz it’s da biggest,” Matthew responded.
The two of you sat next to each other throughout the demonstrations and even shared a table at lunch. Wanda had packed you a container of yogurt, sliced strawberries and baby carrots, and some Mini turkey and cheese roll-ups which were basically just a turkey sandwich rolled into bite-sized pieces for easy eating. At the bottom of your lunch box, there was a note that read,
My Dearest Y/N,
I hope you're having a wonderful day at school! I am so incredibly proud of you. Remember, my little superhero, you have the power to do anything you set your mind to. Each day, you're growing stronger, smarter, and more amazing. I can't wait to hear all about your day when you come home. Keep shining bright, my sunshine.
With all my love,
Mama
You couldn’t help but smile as you attempted to read the note, you still weren’t really able to read but you were able to pick out keywords like love, smarter, amazing, and superhero, so you got the vibe and felt comforted by it, which is all Wanda had hoped for.
“What’s dat?” Matthew asked as he saw you set the note down next to your baby carrots. “Oh, my mama wrote me a note” you explained.
“Oh wow, she must really love you,” he stated as he wondered why he never received any notes with his meal.
“Yea, she does,” you said with a gleaming smile.
You managed to survive the entire day without contacting Wanda at all. She hoped it was a good sign as she and Nat headed to pick you up. They were made sure to be there 5 minutes before pick-up so that you wouldn’t have to wait, knowing you’d be excited to see them and tell them all about how it went.
As soon as the door opened for dismissal, you immediately found Wanda’s green eyes and ran full speed with your arms stretched out reaching for a hug. She enveloped tightly you as she lifted you off the ground for a long embrace. The two were happy to see that your face was filled with nothing but joy.
Wanda continued to carry you as the three of you headed toward the car. Wanda ducked into the driver's seat after getting you settled into your car-seat and Nat took the seat next to you in the back so that she could hear all about your day.
“Sooo, how was it? Tell us all about it!” Nat insisted.
“Was so fun! We learned bout uhm- OH! JUPITER HAS A RAINSTORM! And Mafwew said dat if we went to space, der wouldn’t be any noise.”
“Matthew?” Wanda asked as she caught glimpses of you speaking through her rear view mirror.
“Yea mama! My new fwiend! He wikes space tew!” you excitedly announced. You went on to tell them all about the things that you learned and how much fun you had with Matthew. Tomorrow couldn't come quick enough.
“Did they give you any homework?” Nat asked once you had finished.
“Oh yea, is in my bag” you answered as you showed Nat where it was in your bag. She read over the instructions and mentioned that you could do it right when you got home. The assignment wasn’t anything too difficult, but it sure was time-consuming.
The project was about energy and showing how much we consume every day. The worksheet was laid out so that all you had to fill in were blocks of color. You were given a piece to plug into your outlets and once you had the item mentioned plugged in, it would show an amount. Then you had to fill in the bubble that corresponded with the range on your outlet.
Nat and Wanda both helped you through this but you soon became bored and no longer wanted to do it. It was so repetitive and your toys were sitting right there just waiting to be played with. Eventually you got through it without making too much of a fuss and you could finally get on with what you wanted to do, except that didn't last long because before you knew it, Wanda was telling you it was bathtime.
“But mama, I just stawrted pwlayin” you said somberly.
Wanda wanted to give you more time to play but it was already getting late and you had to be up early tomorrow, “I know, I’m sorry baby, but it’s late and you need a bath before camp tomorrow.” Without a fight, you reluctantly followed hoping that tomorrow would be better.
Tumblr media
When you arrived home from camp the next day, the same dreaded question was asked, “Do you have any homework today?” You remembered how long and grueling your homework was last night, and instead of showing them the papers that your teacher gave you, today, you simply shook your head. Of course, Nat, the trained super spy, noticed the hesitation in your response as the gears turned in your brain and saw right through you. Deciding that she would look in your bag herself once you all arrive at the compound.
You immediately ran to the common room to play with your toys. Natasha, in the kitchen with Wanda, investigated your bag as Wanda cleaned your lunch box. “No homework huh?” Nat muttered as she held up your papers for Wanda to see. They shared a knowing look as Nat mentioned she would talk to you while Wanda finished cleaning out your lunch.
Natasha entered the common room, a concerned expression on her face, holding your backpack in her hand. She had a feeling something was off when you claimed there was no homework. She sat down next to you, as you played with your toys.
"Hey, sweetheart," Natasha said gently, placing the bag on the coffee table. "I happened to find something interesting in your backpack. Do you want to explain why you said you didn't have any homework?"
Your eyes widened, realizing you had been caught in your little white lie. You fidgeted with your toys, avoiding Natasha's gaze. "I... I didn't want to do it. It- it takes SOO long, and den I don’t get to play." you admitted.
Natasha reached out and gently turned your face towards her, meeting your eyes. "Sweetheart, I understand that homework can sometimes feel dull, but it's important to be honest with us. We're here to help and support you, but we need to know what's going on."
Wanda entered the room once your bag was all cleaned. Sensing the tension, she knelt down beside Natasha and spoke in a reassuring tone. "Y/N, we want you to succeed in everything you do. And that includes being honest, even when it's hard. We're a family, and families trust and support each other."
A family.
Natasha noticed the term and felt elated that she was included in the phrase. The three of you were a family. It didn’t matter whether Wanda and Nat were best friends, or something more than that; the three of you were family. You felt their endless love, even if they hadn’t figured out that part of that love lay within each other.
Your lower lip quivered, realizing the weight of your actions. "I'm sorry, Natty. I didn't mean to lie."
Natasha's expression softened, and she pulled you into a comforting hug. "It's okay, sweetheart. We all make mistakes, and the important thing is to learn from them. Let's work on being honest with each other, alright?"
Wanda joined the hug, enveloping you both in her warm embrace. "We love you, Y/N, no matter what. And we're here to help you with your homework too. It doesn't have to be boring. We can find fun and creative ways to learn together."
You sniffled, feeling a mix of relief and remorse. They were right. Lying wasn't the solution, and you knew deep down that they were always there to support her. You nodded, determined to make things right.
“It can be fun?” you wondered how they planned to turn such a mundane task into something, fun.
“We can turn it into a special challenge!" Nat chimed in
You looked up, curious about the proposal. "A challenge?"
Wanda chimed back in, joining the conversation. "That's right, sweetheart! We'll create a reward system for each task you complete. Once you finish your homework, we can all have a movie night or make your favorite dessert together."
Your eyes lit up with excitement. "Really? We can have a movie night?"
Natasha nodded. "Absolutely! But first, we need to get those homework assignments done. Let's break it down into smaller tasks, so it feels less overwhelming. We'll be right here with you, cheering you on."
Wanda took your hand and sat beside you at the table. Nat and Wanda each took turns reading different questions out for you.
With their gentle encouragement and the promise of a fun reward, you felt motivated. They both stayed by your side, offering guidance and praise as you worked through each task. They made the process enjoyable by adding some playful moments and even turning math problems into little games.
As you completed each question, you couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. With every finished task, you grew more confident and proud of yourself. By the time you completed your last assignment, you practically beamed with joy. Almost as if homework was just as fun as playtime with your toys.
Natasha and Wanda gathered around you, excitedly applauding your efforts. "Great job, Y/N! You did it!" Natasha exclaimed.
Wanda hugged you tightly. "We're so proud of you, sweetheart."
You grinned, feeling a sense of pride and happiness wash over you. With your two favorite people by your side, even homework could turn into an adventure filled with love and support; and as promised, you all enjoyed a delightful movie night, celebrating your achievements. You had shocked both Wanda and Nat with your choice of movie for the night, Planet 51, purely because it was something other than Frozen.
For the rest of the week, Natasha and Wanda made it a point to create a positive and engaging homework routine for you. They turned studying into a fun activity, incorporating games, rewards, and plenty of encouragement. You learned that honesty and open communication were far more rewarding than any short-lived escape from homework.
Together, you tackled assignments, explored new concepts, and celebrated each milestone. You discovered that learning could be an exciting journey, especially when shared with your favorite people.
//
A few days later, the aroma of a freshly cooked meal wafted through the air of the kitchen, tempting your taste buds and filling the room with mouthwatering scents as you sat patiently at the table. Once Wanda had begun serving up plates of food, you noticed that the meal was something that you had no interest in eating. Your once adventurous appetite had transformed into a discerning palate, making mealtime a challenge for your loving guardians, Natasha and Wanda.
"Come on, Y/N," Natasha coaxed, her voice gentle but firm. "You need to eat your vegetables. They'll make you strong like a superhero."
Your bottom lip jutted out, and you crossed her arms, proclaiming, "I don't like vegables, Natty!"
Wanda, with her patient demeanor, joined in, her voice filled with warmth. "But sweetheart, vegetables have magical powers! They can give you energy to run fast like-" Wanda abruptly cut her sentence short at the sudden realization that you had never met her brother. Pietro never had the chance to become an uncle before his life was tragically taken from her, him. She struggled to come up with a new comparison, as her mind was scrambling to revive her sentence. Nat immediately picked up on Wanda’s distress and quickly put a reassuring hand on Wanda’s shoulder as she took over, “They can make you strong like Mr. Bucky and Peter,” Nat concluded.
The presence of Nat’s hand on her shoulder quelled Wanda’s mind from running in circles trying to backpedal as she focused on the way it felt to have Nat soothingly move her hand from her shoulder to her back in a messy circular motion, subconsciously leaning into her ever so slightly.
You glanced skeptically at the colorful array of vegetables on your plate. "Really?"
Natasha nodded, a playful sparkle in her eyes. "Absolutely! And if you eat your vegetables, you might even develop some superpowers of your own."
You carried the skepticism into your look back to Nat, “I alweady hab powers!” You said as you called her out.
Nat’s eyes widened ever so slightly as she remembered that little detail but you didn’t catch the slight crack in her resolve. She was so used to treating you like a kid, like a normal kid, that she began to suppress the fact that you are in fact enhanced yourself, “New ones,” she responded as she covered up her slight oversight.
Wanda smiled as she watched the interaction, her voice filled with excitement. "Perhaps you'll develop the power to talk to animals or create beautiful flowers with just a wave of your hand."
Your imagination ignited, and you tentatively reached for a small piece of broccoli, eyeing it with newfound intrigue. Hesitantly taking a bite, to your surprise, a burst of flavor danced on your tongue.
"Yummy!," You exclaimed, a hint of both shock and amazement in your voice.
Natasha and Wanda exchanged triumphant glances, their plan unfolding successfully. They knew that sometimes a dash of imagination and a sprinkle of superhero magic were all it took to conquer a picky eater's heart.
Encouraged by your enthusiasm, Natasha and Wanda continued to weave tales of vegetable-powered adventures, turning each bite into a step closer to unlocking extraordinary powers. With every vegetable conquered, your confidence grew, and soon the plate was empty—a victorious battle won against the picky eater dilemma.
As you savored the last bite, you looked up at Natasha and Wanda, a bright smile lighting up your face. "I did it! I ate all my vegebles, just wike a real superhero!"
Natasha and Wanda shared a proud glance, their hearts brimming with joy. Together, they celebrated the triumph of a small victory, knowing that love, creativity, and a touch of superhero magic had transformed a picky eater into a courageous little hero.

Today was an exciting day, or at least everyone kept saying it would be. Sam and Bucky were taking you to Chuck E. Cheese, you had never been there before. You couldn’t shake the nervous feeling you had about being with Bucky and Sam without Wanda. It’s nothing they did, you were just a bit shy around certain people, especially men; but Wanda was your rock, she made you feel safe. She was someone you felt comfortable hiding behind whenever the situation called for it; without your shield, you were on your own.
Wanda knew you were feeling anxious about the day ahead, but she also knows that it will be good for you to get through moments like this without hiding away. She takes the time to assure you that she’s only a phone call away, but she has a feeling you’ll end up having so much fun that you forget about her anyhow.
“Look at you, all ready to go?”
“Come wif?” You begged with doe eyes, hoping Wanda would change her mind about coming with you three.
“No, malyshka. We talked about this, remember?”
“Pwease?” you continued on softly.
She picked you up and sat you down on the edge of the bed and kneeled in front of you, “what are you so nervous about?”
“I- you won’t be dere” you replied
“Sam and Bucky want to spend time with you, malyshka. I promise you’re going to have so much fun.” she tried to reason as she moved your hair from your face.
“Ok.” You say, not totally convinced. You figure you’re not going to get your way and it’s best to just get it over with.
Wanda walks you down to the common room to meet up with Bucky and Sam. They talk for a little bit about when they think you’ll be back so that Wanda can plan her day. She wanted to do a few errands while Sam and Bucky had you for the day.
“Ready, Y/N?” Bucky exclaimed as he went to pick you up and put you on his shoulders, you let him but didn’t give much of a response. Wanda explained to them both that you were a bit anxious so they knew what to expect. The drive took about 35 minutes; and the whole time Bucky tried to get you to sing along with him to the radio. It took a few tries, but eventually, House Party by Sam Hunt came on and you couldn't help yourself but join in. Sam knew this was a major win for Bucky, so he took a lap throughout the plaza a couple of times so that you two could finish your song before he parked the car in the Chuck E. Cheese parking lot.
“We’re here!” Sam exclaimed excitedly trying to carry over the hype from the song into the good times that lie ahead. Bucky eagerly got out of his seat and headed straight for your door to let you out, “Are you ready, Y/N? I’m so excited, are you excited?!” He said like a little kid getting ready to go into a candy shop. You nodded your head in return, hoping that would be enough. You didn’t know how to feel truthfully, you weren’t sure exactly what stood through the doors but everyone said it would be fun.
The first thing you noticed about the place was that it was immediately much louder than the parking lot. As soon as you walked through the door you could hear bells, games, music, and kids making just about any noise they could. It was a bit overwhelming, you tried to look around to see what the place entailed. Right away, the flashing lights of the games caught your eye.
Soon enough you went through the gate and they stamped each of your forearms with the number 112 in a glow-in-the-dark ink that only showed under their black light. You were hesitant at first, but seeing Bucky and Sam get the stamp and not flinch put you at ease. The metal and the ink were slightly cold to your skin as it was applied but seeing it glow really fascinated you. Moments after walking in, Sam quickly found a table for the 3 of you to settle into. Bucky passed out the menus, “you hungry, y/n?” he says while scanning his laminated parchment.
“Wittle bit” you replied as you began to scan the photos throughout the menu. “Dis’ll be it” you say as if it is all you want and Bucky looks down to see you pointing to an image of chocolate cake, “yea, I bet it would be.” he chuckles back in response, “how about we split a pizza before we go play?” sam offered. “Sounds good to me, what about you, sport?” he asks, waiting for your response. You respond with a nod, “I like pizza,” you confirm and with that, a waiter is over to take your order.
“We can go on the slide?” you wonder aloud to the two boys with you as you watch the other kids having fun coming down the slide.
“We sure can, we’ll start with that after we eat,” Bucky answers you.
You’re not sure exactly how long the food took to come but it didn’t feel like long as you watched all the kids playing around you. You were hesitant to immediately want to try some things as you were content watching the other kids do them while you feel it out. Just watching them have fun was enough for you to be intrigued by the activity as you decide if it's really worth your attention.
Once you finished up your meal, you all made your way to discard your shoes onto the shoe rack so that you could head into the play gym. You hesitated on the first step, not wanting to climb up first. “You first,” You say to the two behind you. Sam, next in line, switches spots with you and agrees to be the guinea pig, “alright, alright. I’ll go first”
After the first few blocks, and bucky guiding your feet to the right spots, you were getting the hang of it. You thought the coolest part was seeing the view from the top of the room. At the top of the enclosed playpen, there was a makeshift car that had a windshield to look out over the entire restaurant and a steering wheel that didn’t really do anything but look and feel fun as you pretend you're driving a car through the air. You sat in the passenger seat with sam and then scooted to the driver seat when Bucky came up.
Sam was the first to make it to the slide since he was the first one to go. When he got down to the bottom, he immediately got in position with his phone camera to take a video of your first time down a slide.
You came down, and then Bucky next. The slide emptied into a large ball pit. It took you a bit of time to get through the balls, luckily Bucky was behind you to help you through. On your way out you grab a light blue one and hold it close to you, wanting to save it forever. There were so many balls in the pit, surely one going with you wouldn’t be missed.
“Wanna go play some games now?” Bucky asked, excited to play air hockey with you.
“Uh sure.” not really caring what you do next as long as it’s fun, and you get to take your new ball.
Once Sam noticed you had the ball over in the gaming area, he immediately said it needed to be brought back to the ball pit. Bucky could see that you were sad but you were well-behaved and didn’t put up a fight with Sam as he took it back to where it belonged. Since Sam was busy returning your ball, Bucky got the first game against you on the air hockey table, not that he would’ve let Sam go first anyway.
Bucky got 2 in on you right off the bat; but once you were able to block a couple of his shots, you got the hang of pelting the puck back and eventually caught back up. In the end, Bucky had you beaten but you played a pretty good game.
The next few hours were spent switching between games and climbing through the playground. Sam quickly had enough of the playground and chose to wait for the two of you at the bottom.
In the meantime, he noticed that some people had started to gather at the tables by the stage. This made him decide to check the showtimes and sure enough, there was one in about 20 minutes so he moved your belongings from the table you currently had to one that was in the other room by the stage.
The next time the two of you came down the slide, he motioned for you to meet him over there for the show. Sam could see some of the parents around him hyping up the show to the kids to try and get them excited, to some it was working, but he couldn’t do that to you in good conscience. To be honest, he didn’t know how you would react to this show, and whether you’d completely vibe with the tunes and animated animals or you’d see them as creepy possessed singing demons. Both were valid.
Luckily, it was the first of the two. The creepy puppetry didn’t phase you one bit as all you saw were cute animals singing catchy tunes. Bucky noticed you dancing in your seat to the beats, so he lifted you onto the floor as he turned his chair toward the stage so you could stand between his legs and dance more fully on the floor in front of him without being in the way of others.
When the show ends, Sam asks you if there is anything else you’d like to do before they leave. After thinking thoroughly through your options, you assured him you were ready when they were.
“WAIT, we have to see what prizes we can get with all these tickets!” Bucky enthusiastically reminded you.
“Prizes?” you wondered. You knew you got tickets for being good at certain games but you had no idea that you could trade them in for prizes.
“Yea! Here, put your shoes on and we’ll go see.” Bucky explained as he handed you your shoes and put his on as well. While the two of you put on your shoes, Sam neatened up the tickets that were strewn across the table so that they would go into the machine easier.
Once your shoes were on and you were ready to go, other than having your jacket on which Sam carried, you all headed over to the ticket counter. Bucky handed you the first set of tickets and guided your hand to the slot; once the ticket was gripped by the machine, it automatically started sucking the rest in as it counted it. The action startled you at first, you don’t know what you were expecting but it wasn't that. Not too long later though, you're memorized by the action and the way the number keeps going up.
Once all the tickets are in the machine, the number at the top read 582. You looked to Bucky to see what it all meant so he explained that anything behind the counter with a number less than that is something you could bring home. You scanned the case and the wall thoroughly, most of the ones on the wall were really high ticket prices but there was one stuffed animal that caught your eye and it was 500 tickets. You knew immediately the blue owl stuffie was the one you wanted.
“OWL!” you pointed to the plush on the wall.
“This one?” The worker grabbed the stuffed animal to confirm your choice. You nodded excitedly in response and hugged it tightly as soon as he handed it over.
As you left the building, you got to put your hand under the black light again to see the 112 light up on all three of your arms to make sure they’re leaving with the right child. You didn’t know the reason behind the stamps but you still found them interesting. On the drive home, you hugged your new owl the whole time. “Do you have a name for your new friend yet?” Bucky turned around to ask you.
You hadn’t thought about that yet, so you took a couple seconds to thing before blurting out, “Hoot”
Soon enough, you and Hoot were sleeping soundly together in the backseat during the ride home. When Sam pulled up to the compound to find you sleeping, he gently unbuckled you from the car and managed to take you inside without disturbing you. Once he had you in his arms you nuzzled further into him to get more comfortable as you continued sleeping.
Wanda was busy cooking dinner when they came in and softy placed you on the couch of the empty common room. At the smell of meat sauce, the two boys quickly made their way to the kitchen. “How’d it go?” Wanda asked as she stirred her pot.
“Oh, we had a great time! I think Y/N had a lot of fun.” Bucky assured her.
“She’s in there sleeping with her new stuffie,” Sam added
“That’s wonderful I’m glad she had a good time. Dinner is almost ready if you two want some.”
Once the food was ready for serving, Wanda dished out two plates to the boys and two plates for her to bring to the common room. You were still sound asleep on the couch as she gently shook you awake to ask if you would like some dinner. As soon as you heard her voice, your eyes shot open. You were so excited to see her and tell her about all the fun you had with Sam and Bucky. “Y/N, sweetie. Are you hungry?”
Instead of responding you attacked her with a hug, “mm we had so much fun, look!” you said showing her your new stuffie.
“Who’s this?” “Hoot” you respond, “Mr Bucky and me played games and den we got dees tickets and wif da tickets I bought dis”
“Oh wow, you must’ve played a lot of games.” Wanda mentioned.
“We did, and- and we went down dis huge swide dat went into a swimming pool full of balls!” “A swimming pool?”
“Yea- well der was no water. I picked out a reawy pwetty ball but Mr Sam said dat it had to stay in da ball pool and I couldn’t keep it. OH! And me and Mr Bucky pwayed hockey in da air table and den we also saw a show wif a bunch of aminals!”
“Sounds like you had lots of fun!” Wanda smiled
“We did” you answered as you took the fork that Wanda handed you. The two of you continued to eat and talk about your day.
Bucky and Sam had finished up their dinner before the two of you, Sam went off to his room to get cleaned up for the night as Bucky headed out to the common room to see you.
“Hey Y/N, I uh- I have something for you” he said as he kneels down to your level.
You turn your attention away from your food to the man kneeling beside you as he pulls something from his jacket. In his hand, he hands you the same color light blue plastic ball from the ball pit. “My ball!” Your eyes lit up when you saw it and you grabbed it immediately.
“Don’t tell Sam,” He whispers as he stands up and you nod in agreeance “Tank you, Mr Bucky!”
Wanda sat there smiling at the exchange as she silently mouthed “Thank you” to Bucky as he stood up and walked away. She wasn’t thanking him for the ball though, she was thanking him for giving you memories that you could look back on and cherish forever.

I have an idea for The Package au series!
So, Peter Parker wants to bring reader to hangout with him and his friends. Even though reader and Peter both really want to go, Wanda says no. Maybe because Peter is young and so she doesn’t trust him like she did with Bucky and Sam? Anyway, Peter decides to sneak you out when Wanda and Tony and everybody else is sleeping. What’s the harm if he brings you back before anybody notices you were gone right? Reader has a great time with MJ and Ned.
So what’s the problem? You and Peter accidentally fell asleep at Ned or MJ’s house. The next morning, Peter wakes reader up and is rushing to get back home, freaking out the entire time. When you guys get back, everyone is already awake. Peter gets in trouble by Tony for sneaking out and by Wanda for bringing you out without permission. Wanda is so worried but reader is just like, “I had so much fun last night :)”
I can’t wait to see what happens next in The Package au!!!!! <3
Mission: Sneak out

”Come on, Wanda, please!” Peter pleaded
“No, Peter. It’s just not safe for her to be out of the compound alone. She’s still adjusting to being here and she doesn’t have her powers fully under control yet” She stated, shattering Peter’s plan of bringing you to build legos with MJ and Ned. Though MJ had no interest in the legos really, she would just hang around to banter and spend time with the boys. “Why don’t you have your friends come here?” Wanda offered.
“Mr. Stark won’t allow it” Peter dropped to the couch, defeated.
Wanda didn’t take any joy in seeing Peter this way but she had to stand her ground, it was just too dangerous for you to be out of the compound with a bunch of teenagers. You just weren’t ready for something like that yet.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Peter had to break the news to his friends. The next day, they were all sitting together at lunch so he decided that was as good a time as any. Ned was bummed you wouldn't be able to tag along, but MJ didn’t bat an eye, “so, sneak her out.” she said like the answer was blatantly obvious. Ned and Peter were both equally taken aback by this, “what? No way, I- I couldn’t I mean Fr-” Peter begins to ramble and gets cut off by MJ, “It’s simple, tell her you’re going on a secret mission and then return her before morning, Wanda would never even know. You’re Spider-Man, what could go wrong?”
“No, I couldn’t” Peter mulls it over in his head still.
“I knew you two were losers,” MJ quips as she walks away.
The two boys are left sitting in silence at the lunch table for a bit before Ned speaks up first, “I mean- she does have a point, you are Spider-Man”
“Ugh, not you too Ned. Wanda would kill me if anything happened to Y/N, have you ever seen Wanda angry? The last time I saw her angry, she threw a car at Mr. Stark.” Peter frantically explains
“Ok, ok. I’m just saying, nothing would go wrong. We’re just building legos.” Ned rebutted.
“I guess.” the web-slinger considered.
Tumblr media
After mulling it over in his head for a few days, he decided to go with MJ’s plan. They were just building legos, it’s not like they were traveling to another state or something, and deep down Peter wanted to impress the girl. So he crafted up a convincing-looking letter, convincing enough for a kid anyway. The letter was a creative way for Peter to convince you to keep the plan a secret. To you, this was a stealth mission that you were hand-picked to complete. If Peter had just asked you to sneak out with him and not tell Wanda, he knew you’d either crack under the pressure or feel too guilty.
With the letter hidden in one of the lego sets you had already built with him, the plan was in motion. Later that day he asked you to play with the set and you stumbled upon the crumpled-up piece of paper.
“What's dis?” you ask tugging on it until became free. The note had a large red stamp that said Top Secret in the upper right corner. Peter put on a stellar performance as he investigated it with you and read it aloud.
“Y/N: Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to evade detection while leaving the compound premises tonight at 8 pm EST with Agent Parker. Once clear, proceed southbound toward Main St. Await further instructions. Tell no one.”
“A mission?” you were both excited and confused.
“What do you say, Y/N?” Peter asked with the note still in his hand.
“Why us?” you wondered. You’re just a kid, why were you being recruited for a mission? Maybe this is your Harry Potter moment. These thoughts kept swirling around in your head.
“I don't know, but it was even hidden in our legos, whoever sent it knew how to contact us secretly, seems important.”
“Okay, I’m in” you smiled excitedly.
“Great! I’ll come get you after you go to bed tonight then, and we can’t tell Wanda,” he explained.
You nodded in agreeance with the plan, “When will we get more notes?”
“Probably after we finish this one.”
Tumblr media
Wanda puts you down for bed around 7 and you end up dozing off before Peter comes to retrieve you. He shakes you gently until you start to stir.
“Y/N, it's me,” Peter whispers, “are you still up for the mission?”
You jolt up excitedly, nodding in response, whatever drowsiness sent you to dreamland before is immediately wiped away as you are ready to embark on your adventure with your friend. The two of you sneakily start to make your way out of the compound, making sure that every room is empty before entering. Once the two of you successfully navigated to the door, Peter directs you in the correct direction.
“We made it!” you exclaim.
“We did, now we just have to find the next note” Peter explained.
You continued southbound from the compound with your eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary. As you passed an alleyway, you glanced down it and then thoughts of all the different things that may lurk in the dark corners quickly took over as you hurried toward the brightest part of the sidewalk.
About a block later, you come across an envelope taped to a tree. Immediately, you run up to the tree and tear the envelope off, “Found it!” you exclaimed holding the note high in the air for Peter to see.
“What’s it say?” Peter asks as you hand the note over to him to read.
“It says we have to go to this address” he points out
Peter’s place isn’t far from the compound so it doesn’t take long to get there. The trip there was pretty tame, except you noticed a rat scurrying across the sidewalk on the other side of the street and then seconds later a grey cat scurried out from behind a bush as it played the game of chase with the rat.
“What do we do now?” You asked as the two of you walked up to the door to the address on the note.
“We go in” Peter states
“Are you going to climb in a window? OH, or climb onto the roof?” You brainstorm ways that Spider-Man could get into places as Peter unlocks the door and walks in.
“I was thinking of using the front door” he states plainly as a joke.
“How- how did you do dat?” You asked wondering if all superheroes just had universal keys to the city or something.
“I live here,” Peter explained as Ned and MJ shouted “Suprise”
You’re visibly confused as Peter takes you over to the dining room table with the legos, “There’s one more note here, Y/N” he points out for you to read.
You take the note out of the envelope to find the word “Build” written on it. You understand it immediately as you turn to the three others in the room for an explanation, “We’re building legos?” you question.
“Yea, I wanted you to meet my friends. This is MJ and Ned.” Peter introduces.
“MJ? And Ned? Da ones you always talk about?” you wonder
Peter blushes, “I- I mean I don’t always talk about them. But yea, this is them.”
Ned and MJ make their way over to the table with you, “Nice to meet you, Y/N.” Ned offers.
“You too”
The three of you are engrossed in the lego building for a couple of hours as MJ plays on her phone and keeps the boys on their toes as they miss build steps. Once 10 o'clock rolls you start yawning enough for Peter to realize he should probably bring you back to bed.
“Are you ready to head back, Y/N” he asks
You thought about it for a second, you were so engrossed in the legos that you didn’t even realize how tired you were. Once you realized you were ready for bed, you nodded in agreeance.
Before you knew it, you were headed back to the compound.
“Did you have fun?” Peter asks as you continue your trek home.
You nod in response, “I wike your fwiends” you noted, “especiawly MJ, shes rewly pwetty”
Peter smiled at your response, “She is really pre-” he’s cut off as you’re both startled by the sound of a gunshot coming from a store that you're passing by. Peter immediately jumps into action as he finds a place for you to hide, “Stay here, I'll be right back” he mentions as he runs toward the area of the gunshot.
You stay put for a few minutes until you remember that the whole reason you were out with Peter tonight was for a mission. Maybe it was all leading to this, or maybe you just wish it was, after all, you came out tonight to be a hero. So that’s exactly what you plan on doing, you and Peter are partners in this mission, and you’re not going to let him sideline you, so you move toward the store.
When you walk in, you see Peter fighting 4 different guys at the same time and you try to find something that will allow you to help him. There are products scattered all over the ground from the men being knocked into the shelves. You pick up the nearest item and throw it at the bad guy closest to you. It wasn’t until then that anyone even noticed your presence. The man laughs and immediately grabs you, “What do we have here? Is Spider-Man sending kids to do his dirty work now?” he snarks.
“Let me go!” you struggle
“Y/N! I told you to stay put!” Peter scolds as he continues to kick everyone’s ass.
“We’re partners, I help” you defended.
As you tried to justify why you came in to help, one of the men motioned for your captor to leave through the back with you in tow. He scurried out as quickly as possible while you thrashed back in forth in his arms to try and break free. Once the black-haired man had you outside, all the courage you had built up to go and help your friend quickly turned to fear. Your courageous yells soon became cries for help as you could no longer see your friend, Peter.
Before the man could get you into a van, the fear took control over your body to unleash a shockwave, breaking you free from his grip. With the man unconscious on the ground, you ran as fast as you could back to the safe spot that Peter had left you in. Minutes later, after Peter finishes up with the men inside the building, he rushes to the back to look for you. Relieved is an understatement, he sees the man lying knocked out on the ground and he knows you must’ve gotten away. The only issue now is, where did you go?
“Karen, are you seeing any traces of where y/n headed?” he inquired to the artificial intelligence in his suit.
“Size 3 footsteps indicated on the infrared scanner show that she most likely headed northeast,” Karen informs as she overlays the infrared scanner into Peter’s field of view.
“Perfect! Maybe she headed back to the spot I left her in earlier”
Once Peter finds you, he checks you over to make sure you’re ok; and while you are very shaken, physically you are fine. “You could’ve gotten seriously hurt, Y/N.” Peter scolds as the two of you begin walking back towards to compound again.
“I sorry, I- I just thought dat I should help cuz we’re on a mission togeder”
He can’t help but smile at that, “You’re going to be a great Avenger one day”
“I am?”
“Yea, but listen, no one else at the compound can know what we were up to tonight” He reminds you
“Right, right. It’s a secret mission. I renember.” you state nodding you head in agreeance.
When the two of you pull up to the compound, Peter scales the side of the building with you on his back, until he reaches your room. His plan, however, is ruined when your window is completely locked from the outside with no way to get in. Karen can’t even get it open as there is an override to keep it shut from F.R.I.D.A.Y.
His only other option is to take you back in through the front entrance. That should be ok though, after all, that is the way that you two escaped in the first place. The entrance is clear, all is looking good until they reach the common room. Tony and Wanda are just sitting there waiting for you. Peter stands there frozen for a second until Tony finally breaks the silence. “You wanna tell me where the two of you were or should I ask Karen?” he states dryly as you leave Peter to run with your arms toward Wanda. She stands from the couch to engulf you in a comforting hug as she lifts you up, “Hey, detka, are you okay?” She says removing the strands of hair from your face to thoroughly look you over.
You nod as you nuzzle into her shoulder. It was far past your bedtime and it only took a slight bit of comfort from Wanda to remind your body of how exhausted you were. “I’m going to bring her up to bed. I’ll deal with you tomorrow.” She says as she shoots a glance laced with daggers at the man of webs.

It’s only been a week, you think to yourself as you stare at your phone.
A week since you’ve spoken to your best friend, or at least, the person that you thought was your best friend. You could sense that she was drifting away from you in the last couple of months, and yet there was nothing you could do to stop it. It was a helpless feeling, all you could do was stand by and watch.
Tumblr media
Kate was hired at the retail store that you had been working at through college. As a supervisor, you were tasked with training the brunette on her first day.
The shift started like any other, you walked into the back room to clock in. This time though, there was a person you didn’t recognize sitting in the office to the right of the hallway that you had to walk past to get to the time clock. The girl had raven-colored hair and a mix of ocean and emerald in her eyes. She wasn’t alone in the open space, one of your managers was in there chatting with her too, carrying on a casual conversation like they had known each other for years prior.
You noticed the way she sat in the chair; comfortable, with one leg propped up and her foot on the chair as the other spread to the floor like she frequented the place. By the way she held herself, you assumed she wasn’t new and had maybe just transferred from another store or something.  Thinking back on your first day, you would be way too nervous to make yourself at home like that, or even just carry on such a casual conversation with your manager in the way she was in that moment.
Not thinking too much of it, you grabbed your lanyard and your radio then headed downstairs to your station. Typically the closing supervisors got shafted with scheduling. The morning team always had multiple people at the desk, which meant the supervisor on duty was mobile to move around the store as needed; but when it came time to close, you were often scheduled alone. Not only was this frustrating because you hated being tethered to that desk, but closing duties involved getting everything ready for the morning. Ironic that you were responsible for getting everything ready for the morning when they had more staff on and were typically less busy.
The store you worked at was inside the mall which meant it had the potential to get very busy. Tonight was a weeknight in early October and the weather was good, so you didn’t expect anything more than a few customers an hour. No less than 20 minutes later, the girl from the break room came waltzing up to your desk with your manager.
“Y/N, this is Kate, she’ll be training with you tonight”
You hoped you didn’t show it visibly, but that’s the last thing you wanted to do. Nothing against Kate, but you hated training new employees in general. Not only did you doubt yourself as a teacher, but you often became frustrated when they didn’t catch on as quickly as you normally would.
As your manager walked away, you began showing your new teammate the layout of the desk and the POS system. Similar to earlier, you got the feeling that she had done this before. She was easily able to learn the ropes and by the end of the night, you were even able to send her off to ring at a register alone while another cashier took a break.
Tumblr media
The two of you became close fairly quickly and discovered you had a lot in common. From your shared love of archery, all the way down to your favorite restaurant.
“Where do you guys wanna go for dinner” Kate’s boyfriend, Peter, asked as you all got ready to leave
“Red Robin” Kate responded with no hesitation
You had used that same response with your family so many times they had stopped asking you anymore.
“Yes! That’s my literal favorite restaurant” you responded shocked at her answer
“No way, mine too!” she said, “they have the best sauces” you said in unison
It was such a small thing; but every time you told someone you wanted to eat at your favorite restaurant, they became visibly annoyed. The fact that Kate not only liked the place but also appreciated the sauces, made you so happy.
At first, you were both accompanied by other friends from work whenever you would hang out. Kate lived just a few blocks away from the college you were attending. Soon enough, you began hanging out in between your classes and on days you didn’t work; and when you weren't hanging out, you were on facetime together. Some nights, the two of you would even fall asleep on the phone together. Kate would usually fall asleep first, and in the beginning, you would hang up when you realized she was sleeping. That is until she complained that the beep of the disconnection woke her up. Not wanting to do anything to disturb her, you simply muted the mic and let the call run until she woke up in the morning to disconnect it herself.
You two became practically obsessed with each other, updating one another on every little thing in your life throughout each day. It didn’t matter if it was a regular daytime hour or 3 am; if something noteworthy was happening, you were the person she texted. Your heart practically fluttered when she called you her best friend; you didn’t know why you liked the sound of it falling from her lips so much, it’s like it had validated that the feeling was mutual, that she cherished you just as much as you craved her.
Kate had a way of simultaneously making you feel like the most important thing in her life and also like you were walking on thin ice around her. It wasn’t necessarily that she had a short fuse, but she was allowed to do things to you that you weren’t allowed to reciprocate unless she initiated it. To most people; maybe this would’ve been a red flag, but to you, well you were just happy to have Kate’s attention. You always had an underlying fear in the back of your head that one day she would get tired of you and no longer want you in her life. That could be your own fears growing out of proportion, but it was more likely because she would often casually slip the idea into conversation by saying things like, “when we are no longer friends” or “at least there’s one thing you can take away from this friendship”- always alluding to the impermanence of it. She made sure to always hold the power in your dynamic, and sometimes you didn’t even realize it. Other times though, you actually liked giving her all of the power. You liked being the reason she was happy, so much so, that you didn’t mind sacrificing your own joy for it.
Just like any new friend, you found something new about each other every time you got together. Kate wasn’t necessarily a rebel or anything, but she had a lot more experience than you in life. You often thought Kate was much cooler than you, and it was a wonder she was even your friend in the first place. You two meshed really well though, her extroverted personality was a good balance to your secluded demeanor.  Even though you were both the same age; Kate had moved hours away from her parents and was living on her own with her boyfriend, and she had really gotten the full college experience while studying abroad in Italy a year prior.
You had never done any of that, you still lived with your parents. You hadn’t even moved out for college because it was local and you could just commute. There were a lot of things you hadn’t done actually. You kept to yourself a lot and never really went to parties, you had never been drunk and honestly, you didn’t really understand what the point of it was. Can’t people just have fun without poisoning their bodies to have a good time? The idea of a romantic relationship wasn’t something you ruled out completely but you never specifically sought one out. There were occasional times when boys would give you their number or try and flirt with you, but you paid them no mind.
Being well into college, and of age; when Kate discovered you had never been drunk before, it seemed like she made it her new mission in life to give you that experience. You’d had alcohol before to taste it, but never enough to really feel any of its effects. Before you knew it, you and a couple of friends were over at her house with enough alcohol to throw a party. Kate didn’t technically force you to drink, but you knew that was what she wanted. You may have acted like you didn’t want to, but deep down, a little part of you wanted to experience it too, especially with her there.
Another reason that you didn’t really drink much was that you hated the taste of alcohol. There are plenty of options that disguise the taste well, but you didn’t really know any better. Until Kate showed you, she taught you all her favorite ways to mix drinks and they actually tasted… good?
By the end of the night, it was only you left at Kate’s house with her boyfriend.
“How are you feeling?” Kate asked you curiously
“Oh, I feel great” you said smiling, feeling on top of the world, “my face is numb”
“What?”
“My face is numb” You repeated as you slapped yourself across the face without flinching, “See, I didn’t even feel that!”
“Y/N!” Kate couldn’t help but laugh
“What?”
“Don’t do tha-”
“Maybe we should uh” you say not finding the right words while walking toward her bathroom
The brunette picked up on your queue and followed close behind you.
You kneeled on the gray tile in front of the toilet waiting for your insides to come back up. It’s not exactly that you felt like you were going to puke, but you felt off and from everything you had learned about alcohol, it always led to vomiting so you assumed this was where you needed to be.
Kate sat next to you rubbing your back and telling you that it was okay, as you settled on the floor. After nothing happened, you leaned your head against the white wall of her bathroom and closed your eyes.
In your drunken, and nearly passed out state; Kate took this as an opportunity to take a photo, she was the type of person that loved to document everything with photographs. She always took videos and pictures of both you and Peter whenever you guys went on adventures, sometimes Peter would get fed up posing for the photographs, but you never did.
“Come on, let’s get you in bed” Kate urged you as she propped you up and led you to her bed in the next room over.
As she laid you down on her mattress, Peter came walking in to prepare for bed.
“Do you mind sleeping in the living room tonight, babe?”
“Oh, uh. Sure, yea of course” Peter replied as he walked back out the door he just came through to set up the futon
Kate followed behind him as she headed to the kitchen to pour two glasses of water.
“Is she ok?” Peter asked from the living room
“Yeah, she’s just not used to feeling like this” Kate reassured him as she headed back to your side.
Noticing you were almost dozed off, she shook you gently, “y/n, sit up. Come on drink some water before you sleep”
“I’m not thirsty” you refused, slurring your words
“It’ll help you feel better in the morning, believe me”
Trusting Kate’s judgment, you unsteadily sat against the headboard and drank the water as you were told.
“Do you have a headache?”
You shook your head in response as Kate placed 2 pills on your nightstand, “These are for the morning then.”
After making sure you were all set for the morning, Kate climbed into the bed next to you, and you laid down. After settling down, she lay on her side and stared at you for a few moments, “Give me your hand” she stated
“Why?” you responded trying not to seem too eager, knowing you would never deny Kate of anything.
“Just- give it,” she said grabbing your hand as you feigned a struggle. Once your hand was in hers, she lightly dragged the tips of her fingers along your palm and then up your inner forearm.
The motion caused a tingling sensation to run through your body, something you hadn’t felt before. Your arm slightly tickled but the tingles also brought a pleasure that made your heartbeat feel like it was about to explode from your chest.
“Does that feel good?” Kate asked as you closed your eyes relaxing into the feeling.
“Mhm,” you murmured
Kate was a big fan of this feeling, every night she would have Peter lightly scratch her skin in the same way to achieve the sensation. On nights that Peter wasn’t there or simply didn’t want to do it, she would ask you to do it. At first, you thought it was a little strange, maybe crossing a boundary. But Kate and Peter both assured you that they were ok with it, it was completely platonic. Eventually, every time you would come over she would simply lay her arm across your lap and you knew exactly what it meant. As time went on, the spots she asked you to tend to were hidden by clothing so she would adjust and move the material. Not only did you love making her feel good, but you loved the fact that she wanted you to.
This was never something that you had been on the receiving end of, until now. You never expected her to reciprocate the motions because it didn’t matter to you if you got to feel good or not as long as she did. It was hard to tell whether the alcohol was enhancing the feeling or not, all you knew is the way her fingertips danced across your skin felt really fucking good.
Kate focused on an area for a few minutes before moving to the next while you lay there frozen, afraid to move and have it all come to an abrupt halt. She could feel your body stiffening like a wooden plank and tried to get you to relax.
“Y/N, relax” she softly spoke to you
“I am relaxed” you replied with your eyes pinned to one spot on the ceiling.
“Look at me” she said as she placed a hand on your cheek and pulled your eye line into hers, “Relax” she gently said again looking straight into your eyes.
“Ok, ok” you said trying to limpen your body.
“Come here” Kate decided as she saw you struggle to unwind. She pulled you in close so that your head was leaning on her and using her chest as a pillow. While the position was certainly more comfortable, you could now hear every breath and beat of Kate’s heart. It’s all you could focus on for a few minutes. Soon enough though, it lulled you into a nice calm state until sleep eventually overtook you in her arms.
Tumblr media
At some point in the night, Stella, a friend at the party had spilled almost an entire bottle of black cherry hard lemonade on the living room carpet. Kate cleaned it up when it happened, but that included nothing more than soaking the wet liquid with a cloth to absorb the spill and then carrying on with her drunken night. Needless to say, it needed a good wash.
A couple of days go by until you find yourself back on Kate’s couch for the night. As you’re sitting there, you see something out of the corner of your eye so you look down to see an ant scurry across the wood to the rug on the floor. “Ahhh” crescendos out of your mouth as you instantly jolt your foot over to stomp out the critter. Kate giggles at your reaction as she goes on to say that she's seen a couple in that area, and then she remembers that a sugary liquid was spilled in the same spot the other night. She hops off the couch to get the cleaner and you both move the couch off of the rug. You offer to help Kate clean the rug, not because you wanted to clean particularly but because you felt like standing there and watching would be kind of rude.
As you really got in there and started scrubbing, you noticed Kate backing away more and more as you did the physical work. Eventually, you scrubbed enough that the cleaner dissolved into the paper towel leaving a clean rug that the ants wouldn’t fancy for the sugar.
Peter spent a lot of weekends traveling back to his Aunt's house to visit which meant Kate was alone for a few days. When they first decided to move upstate, Peter was initially against it.
After losing his parents at such a young age, his Aunt felt like his rock. He wanted to stay in NYC while Kate finished her graduate degree. By this point though, Kate had already been studying abroad in Italy for 2 years and she missed having her high school sweetheart by her side daily. Ultimately putting her feelings above anyone else’s, she wasn’t sure how much longer their relationship would survive the distance. Eventually, Peter gave in and followed her upstate to support her dream.
You spent each one of the weekends that Peter wasn't there by her side. She hated sleeping alone because she ended up having the worst nightmares; so each weekend he was gone, you slept at her house. Other times, Kate would travel with Peter to visit her parents as well; and, already having a key to their apartment, she would ask you to house-sit for the weekend. Kate also had a bunny, sometimes she would bring her along to NYC, but most of the time it was too much work and she relied on you to care for her while she was away. You loved the feeling of being needed and the fact that she relied on you for things. The fact that she trusted you to care for her pet while she was away meant a lot to you. She treated her pet like her child, you knew she wouldn’t let just anyone care for her.
Within just a few months, Kate was promoted to supervisor alongside you. This wasn't surprising considering how easy she was to train. She was smart, thorough, and confident. This was both good and bad news. Of course, Kate deserved the promotion and the raise, but this also made it difficult for the two of you to schedule time off together. There were only a few supervisors in the store, and one had to be on duty at all times.
After some bickering with management,  it all worked out and you were able to go on a couple of trips together. The three of you, including Peter, very much enjoyed the outdoors. Just like the winter; that summer, you spent nearly every weekend together. Instead of skiing and snowboarding like you had done in the wintertime, you spent the summer camping, kayaking, and even going on a week-long archery trip.
The trip was a family tradition with Kate and her father. Peter had come a few times previously as well, but the fact that you were invited along was kind of a big deal. Then again, you both shared the same love for archery, it was a no-brainer to bring you along.
During your stay, the 4 of you stayed in a log cabin that you had rented out just a mile or so down the road from the event property. After many years of doing this, Kate and her father had wrung every kink out of the planning process and knew all the best ways to get the most out of the excursion. The cabin had its own balcony and screened-in porch that oversaw a large lake, and right behind it was a dock with plenty of boats that were available to guests at the resort.
Kate and her father loved to fish, so a few days out of the week the 4 of you got up early and went out on a boat to catch feeding time. On other days, you went out as the sun was setting. You seemed to have more luck at this time of the day.
The archery event was a lot of fun, for you and Kate anyway. Peter was bored most of the time and just wanted to go home, half the time he would sneak off to facetime his friends. The event showcased all the new bows that were releasing on the market in the coming fall, it had demo areas, challenging courses, and scheduled classes. Every day you were able to try something new.
You and Kate were like kids in a candy store, eager to try out each new bow a salesman had to offer. The coolest thing you found was that they were able to create the world's lightest compound bow by creating an alloy of magnesium and vibranium. It felt even lighter than your longbow with the added power of the compound bow. Kate was surprised by it too but she had never been a fan of compound bows; instead, her favorite part of the showcase was a recurve bow. With a recurve bow, she was able to keep her accuracy and gain even more power than a compound bow. Some may disagree, but there is no swaying Kate on this matter. In some ways, she was the most stubborn person you knew. To be fair, she was right most of the time so her stubbornness was rarely in vain.
What made this specific recurve bow neat was the fact that it was completely 3D Printed. She didn’t fully trust its functionality and strength but it was really neat to see that it had been done and could even be used without breaking. In fact, the salesman put the bow through countless stress tests and it didn’t even waver one bit. The problem with these tests though, is they know how to rig it so that it looks impressive, without actually showing any of the real flaws. Still though, you both stood there impressed.
There was a buzz going around that Stark Industries would be announcing a bow on the last day of the event in a huge presentation that could change the bow industry forever. While you doubted the impact would be as crazy as they made it sound, you knew Stark Industries had a reputation for creating groundbreaking technology so you were very excited to see what they had in store.
The whole week was a blast, each day after the event you would either come back to the cabin and go fishing or the 4 of you would play a board game to end off the evening. Sleeping arrangements were definitely complicated. Since there were only two bedrooms, it had been decided early on in the planning process that Peter would share sleeping quarters with Kate’s father and you would share a room with Kate. This way, it’s boys and girls and you’re not forced to sleep with a grown man that you just met. The first couple of nights went to plan, but Peter was getting irritable with the ungodly noises falling from the older man’s face during the night. Halfway through the week, Peter came in to ask if one of you would switch with him. When both of your answers resulted in a headshake, he climbed into the full-size bed with the two of you.
“We’re a throuple” Kate stated
“Sure” you uttered in slight annoyance. Kate loved referring to the three of you as a throuple even though that wasn't completely accurate. Maybe deep down that's what she wanted, but you're nothing more than friends. Best friends.
To say you were squished would be an understatement, Kate resided in the middle with you on the outer edge and Peter against the wall. You’d be lying if you said having Kate squished into you all night wasn’t something you enjoyed, but you enjoyed the alone time shared with her even more. The nights before Peter joined were filled with scratches and deep talks until one of you fell asleep.
By the end of the week, you were dreading having to leave. It had been so nice spending the entirety of each day with your best friend, and knowing she would essentially be stuck there with you the next day was… reassuring. Not that Kate needed to be forced to see you. To you, as long as you’re with Kate it didn’t matter what you were doing you were just happy to be doing it with her. Of course, when you leave this retreat, you’d still see each other, but how could you know for sure? She could just up and leave whenever she finally gets bored of you. The reality of that fact clouded your mind every day.
You’re not sure where the initial anxiety came from, maybe the fact that anyone you had made a good connection with always ended up slowly disappearing. Someone who you would spend hours talking to every day became nothing more than a person from the past. Slowly watching as their name in your inbox drifted out of sight. Or it could’ve been the fact that Kate would always talk about your friendship dissolving one day.
The fact is, most of the people we meet during our 20s are only temporary. Knowing that doesn’t make it hurt any less when they leave though. In fact, maybe it's even more painful because, throughout all the good times, you're just awaiting the day when you become strangers. After the cycle repeats itself a couple of times, you can’t help but think there is something wrong with you. The people you make the closest connections with never want to stay. Maybe you get too attached to people too quickly. But then you think, how could you? You always have your guard up, it isn’t until they show attachment towards you that you even begin to let them in. Maybe that's the problem, maybe they only like the shell of yourself that you show the world and not the one that actually cares for people.
“Y/N” Kate yells into the cabin from the porch, jolting you out of your spiraling thoughts.
“Yea?” You shout back as you make your way toward the door
“Come on! I want to get a good seat for the Stark event” she says as you open the door.
Tumblr media
You must’ve gotten to the event just in time because, even though there was already a line, it hadn’t really started to form until about 5 minutes after you two hopped in the queue. Looking back, there must’ve been 50 people behind you already.
About a half hour later, coordinators began ushering people through the entrance of the theatre. The auditorium was all decked out in Stark Industry’s logos on big screens to the side of the stage. Other than that it was well-lit so that you could all find seating.
“What do you think it’s going to be?” you whisper to Kate, trying not to be too much of a disturbance.
“I don’t know” she hissed, making it seem like it should be obvious that she wouldn’t know what the announcement could be. But, you weren’t expecting her to know. You were just excited and  wanted to pick her brain about what it might be, is that so bad? Maybe you should know better, if Kate doesn’t know what something is, she’s not going to make a fool out of herself and guess incorrectly. Either way, you decided it was best to keep to yourself until the presentation began.
As the presentation began, the lights in the theatre dimmed to make way for stage lights. The red and gold lighting set up a spectacular entrance by the one and only, Tony Stark. In the most charismatic way, this man explained a new bow tech that Stark Industries has been innovating. With the use of their new nano-tech, they have created the perfect bow. Or at least, that’s what they claim. The device transforms in a way that allows the user to store the bow in places like their pocket, or even around their wrist for easy transport. Unlike collapsable bows; once fully formed, this bow has no weak spots. The nanites temporarily weld to each other to make one solid object during use.
The exposition was filled with mind-blowing demonstrations. Tony sure knows how to present a product to the masses. You and Kate were so awe-struck and excited by the demo that you had trouble getting to sleep that night. The unobtainable price tag didn't stop your minds from racing at all the new possibilities.
