headcanons part 3‼️‼️ crazy‼️
hey guys it’s me the person with the regular posting schedule and normal amount of thoughts about this movie! woo hoo! this one is a bit shorter, my sk8 hyperfixation has been completely taking over my brain LMAO but without further ado here u go!
-columbia has a stuffed animal that she is extremely emotionally bonded to. i’d like to think it’s a rabbit with big floppy ears and it’s made out of that kind of rough towel-like texture ykwim?? but anyways she’s had it since she was little and it’s so dirty and has no stuffing in its neck anymore but she refuses to fix or clean it and just carries it around everywhere
-magenta fucking loves earth candy. homegirl is trying to keep up the “i hate this planet it has no redeeming qualities” act but as soon as someone walks into the room with gummy bears she goes absolutely feral
-frank is scared of cats. yes, i know he has the mannerisms of a cat and that is why it’s funnier to me that when he sees a cat he will just leave the room. but also he’s not like an “AAAAAAHHHH A CAAAT THATS SO SCAARRRYYY” person like he’s trying to be subtle about it and won’t admit to being scared but it doesn’t fool anyone
-brad LOVES 50s love songs and also jazz of all kinds. stole this bit from a fanfic but his nickname for frank is sinatra :3 but anyways he’s always playing an ella fitzgerald or doris day vinyl and humming along to the melody while he reads or does other stuff
-frank either wakes up at 5 am or 2 pm. no in between.
-is columbia a dancer? yes. does she use those skills when she’s just dancing to music by herself? absolutely not. she bounces to the beat like a toddler. i love her.
-frank again :3 that bitch absolutely has pierced ears, belly button, and tongue. the movie isn’t canon and i know what i’m talking about <3
-magenta is goth most of the time but when it gets really hot and she cannot survive in all black she gives up and goes whimsigoth with purples and dusty pinks and browns <3
-rip columbia u would have loved electro swing
-ever wondered how riff got that hunch in his back? i have the answer! when he and magenta were little he tried to cut her hair while she was sleeping and she judo flipped him and it just never healed properly
-i could have sworn i posted this one before but i can’t find it? so im just gonna say it now- after the movie events (in my brain no one dies and brad and janet unofficially move in let me have this) janet is trying so hard to be supportive of everybody and im picturing her and magenta as that customwoodburning clip that’s like “are you a les-bin?” “yes ma’am i am” “AWESOME‼️‼️‼️ 🔥🔥🔥”
-magenta is a witch and has an altar in her room, the first time brad went in there he accidentally bumped into it and was scared that the spirits were gonna be mad and kill him and magenta was jokingly like “yeah. ur dead” and he was like “oh no D:” and she had to clarify it was a joke
-frank reads erotic novels at the dinner table and comments on them out loud 🫶
-columbias favorite animal is a jellyfish. i have no reasoning but nell campbell indirectly talked to me and i have been hyperfixated on this movie for over 2 years so u can trust me on this one

MOBILE/MOBILLACE HEAD CANNONS :DDD
@rawio-star SOME SHIT HAPPEND ON TUMBLER. IT WONT LET ME EDIT THE POST :(( BC I HAD MORE HEADCAMNOMS AND I DIDNT ADD IN THE TAG BUT BEJFEJDJS
Also
Tumblr media
Question in context anyways les go. I wanted to edit a few bits anyways so yeah
• ever since I had that tumbler poll I'm questiong myself if wallace should work 3 jobs rather then just one bc no way can he afford that bad of a apartment and provide for himself and scott on a 15$ paycheck so yeah it's reasonable. Wallace works as a telemarketer or some office job (makes more but is fucking boring). Old navy (makes less bit is pretty simple and he can hear his coworkers gossip and pick a few songs) and at a diner (it's in the middle honestly. Makes a god amount of money and is decent, works his ass off but still gets to hear whoever can gossip but sorta wants to quit. Stays at the job bc of one coworker who begged him to stay)
• Mobile works in a library or Spencer's (IK mobile works in some random ah office job but seeing how the rest of the crew in the scott pikgrim series has a pretty minimum wage job I sorta see him start off slow in a new province and have a relaxing ot fun job. Library seems to suit the guy because uts laid back and quiet. Also I took the inspiration from the anime "book seller Honda-San". BUT...but (idk my friend suggested this to me) but mobile: the most average lookin ah guy in the whole entire franchise working...in a Spencer's...it's pretty fuckin funny- just imagine you see some office worker lookin ah dude stocking up on the spiked collars with the most bland lanyard) but I'm sticking with the library idea
• Mobile is a music nerd. He plays a few instruments when he was younger and sticks to playing the piano and sometimes the violin. He likes jazz but likes fast paces music for one thing....rhythm games- idk why but I sorta imagine wallace, scott and mobile going to the arcade one day, scott showing off his epick DDR skills and mobile absolutely DESTORYS HIM. DOUBLE PADS. EXTREAM OR INTENSE IDK AND ALL PERFECT TOO...and then scott never brings walace to the arcade again because he knows mobile would just show off again-
• Wallace is filopino (idk I just see him loving filo food, karaoke, bejng loud af at parties and come on. He loves to gossip) and mobile is half veitnamese and half Korean but is extremely white washes but by the time he reaches freshmen year of collage he actually wants to learn a bit more about both cultures and sorta enjoys trying to get in touch with his roots
• Mobiles parents names are Sam jin and April Nguyen-jin (nick named apple) (divorced) now you might he wondering abt thier names and...I just thought it would be funny to sorta name them after phone companies (like SAMsung and APPLE) because...COME ON THERE HAS TO BE A REASON WHY HIS NAME JS MOBILE
• Mobile likes cold weather meanwhile wallace likes hot. Mobile likes to wear alot of layers during the winter so whenever ut gets too cold wallace immediately just snuggles up with him :)
• Mobile visits wallace whenever he's on break from the library job and helps him (ex: whenever wallace is at old navy or something he drops by and helps walace folds or tag any of the clothes while they talk)
• Joseph and mobile work at the library while wallace and Jimmy both work at the diner
(Those were from my notes onto a few new headcannons-)
Since Todd's pyshic powers are green. I look into the color wheel to see the opposite of green which is likena sorta pink and I just imagine that's what's mobiles powers might look like :) (also TV girl reference)
Mobile is one hell of a quiet guy. Dosnt like to talk often at parties or at clubs and tries to survive any sort of small talk BUT when it comes to wallace he enjoys long conversations about the most random shit that pops into thier heads. Eaither it's gossip from work, some random ass fact that mobile found out, or how to do X thing for Y...thing?
MOBILE CANT READ TONE like sorta- whenever someone is joking around him (especially wallace or other scott) he sorta...takes it seriously? Like a joke when other scott said and mobile just spitting out random facts on how its basically impossible for the chicken to cross the road without getting hit, depends on how fast the cars are going, What time of the day it might be, if the chicken were to walk to cross the road or jumo over cars. Really comes off to being defensive and he dosnt mean any harm so whenever someone like wallave was telling a joke he laughs it off, realizes mobiles confused as hell expression and just says "...that's a joke-" With mobile replying with "....oh yeah-"
Mobiles and wallaces dates usually consist of: museums, the aquarium, some fine dining. Any fancy shit mobile can afford, wallave would LOVE
Mobile overworks himself often and sometimes dosnt realize it. He sorta sees himself just simply finishing a task that he's SUPPOSED to finish in reality it was justa. Option if he wanted to do it or not. Even when he's working in Nintendo he gose into crunch mode often and gets tired more easily WALLACE on the other hand reminds mobile to be on breaks whenever he needs to and takes care of the guy (awh :))
In collage mobile majors in computer science or coding or game development. Whatever computer techy course, he just takes it and then ends up working for Nintendo so :)
Wallace has bad posture. Trues to go ahead and fix it himself but just gives up easily so whenever wallave is with mobile. Mobile just random slaps (lightly) wallaces back and reminds him to stand up straight
Wallace cracks his knuckles often or pops his neck and whenever he dose it makes a loud Crack or pop sound (yk the ones) and it freaks mobile out sometimes
Mobile is prone to carpal tunnel and migraines and has to wear those arm braces often and take those migraine pills too.
Like I mentioned before mobile is a deadpan sorta dude, monotone voice sorta stuff but when wallave is around he's...a bit more expressive.
EDIT: BOUNUS. MOBILE DOSE TAROT CARD READINGS i had this headcannons for MONTHS now and thought it would be silly and then i realize I did this so....yeah. I imagine whenever mobile and Wallace do morning cuddles and shit wallace is like "...yo what's my daily reading" mobile:"...okay let's see, 3 of cups-". Mobile learned how to do traot card reading easily. Like Todd mentioned before he had this picture memory thingy and can remeber scripts easily but its weak sometimes (*FLASH BACK TO THE TRAILER INCIDENT-*) so I imagine mobile dose the same when it comes to memorizing tarot cards meanings
Wallace/ or mobile sits really weird in chairs. Before living with scott, Wallace would sit... Basically like L from a death note or some shit, or one leg up while the other is crossed. He's been used to doing this a lot when he was still in high school while eating dinner with his family, but he soon grew out of it once he reached college. Meanwhile, for mobile, he's just been doing it. Somehow, he is still managing good posture tf
Mobile eaither has a good and fashionable wardrobe comsisting of dark or light academia sort of clothes (wallace didnt know what it was called so one day he just called it "collage professor drag") OR he has that one goofy ah cartoon character looking closet where it's just the same thing over and over again
Mobile tends to chew on his pen often. Was a bad habit he had back in elementary, worsen when he was in highschool due to alot of extra credit and after school programs he was in, collage it got even worse because he mainly used pens and got ink EVERYWHERE
Like hollie and Kim. Joseph and mobile work together in the library, they don't...really talk to eachother but he dose eyeball Joseph sometimes whenever knives brings stephen along to the library and joseph just stares at stephen. Mobile couldn't tell if Joseph likes stephen or just hates him
Wallace brings mobile to some of the sex bob-ombs practices and shows. mobile just watches patiently like romona, wallace and neil would but afterward give pretty decent advice to knives since... he experienced piano player. And whenever stephen ask mobile for advice in general; mobile would just give them a rating out of 20
Another reason why mobile dosnt show alot of expression and is mainly just a deadpan sorta dude is because when mobile was in highschool he had braces and it sucked ass for him. It hurts all the time and he had those rubber band things in his mouth MEANING whenever his friends made him laugh or he had to yawn THAT SHIT HURTS WHEN IT BREAKS. Later in his adult life he just gets retainers instead
Sometimes at night. Whenever mobile comes home tired and worn out He and wallace just silently ea0t dinner and cuddle while they drink wine
Wallace is a vodka mom. Mobile is a wine mom. Change my mind

Year-End Poll #30: 1979
Tumblr media
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: The Knack, Donna Summer (x2), Chic, Rod Stewart, Peaches & Herb, Gloria Gaynor, Village People, Anita Ward, Robert John. End description]
More information about this blog here
We have made it through another decade, everyone. As we reach the end of the 1970's, we are also reaching the end of disco. This is something that makes this genre stand out in a historic sense. Because while we've covered many genres tied to their decade (traditional pop with the 50s, doo-wop with the 60s, etc), those didn't necessarily end the moment the decade switched over. We're still in disco's peak (the dance party before the storm), and many of the songs and artists featured on today's poll are still considered classics. Fun fact, the original name for Chic's Le Freak was called Fuck Off!, which in my opinion is the correct way to sing along to it. The song was written after the band couldn't get into Studio 54, the disco hot spot of the 1970's.
Which brings us to the first crumbling pillar that will send disco collapsing. As disco became mainstream, the aesthetics of disco became less about marginalized people surrounding themselves with opulence and luxury as an escape, and more about...the opulent surrounding themselves with more luxury. The communities who had built this subculture were getting priced out of their own hot spots as the upper class and the celebrities flocked to the hot new thing.
But the disco backlash wasn't just marginalized people and disco purists frustrated with the gentrification and commodification of their subculture. In fact, I think it's safe to say that they were the minority. In reality, the disco backlash had two main prongs: the general music-listening public who was sick of hearing disco on every station, and/or bigots who would hate any kind of Black or gay music they heard no matter how commercialized it became.
So, let's talk about Disco Demolition Night.
July 12th, 1979, the rock vs. disco conflict reached its ugliest peak as tens of thousands of people stormed Comiskey Park in Chicago. Disco records were crushed, burned, and even blown up. The event soon broke out into a riot and thankfully no one was killed, but the demonstration still casts an unpleasant shadow over this moment in music history.
I don't want to diminish the ugliness of this event. As Craig Werner, a professor of African American studies at the University of Wisconsin put it:
"The Anti-disco movement represented an unholy alliance of funkateers and feminists, progressives and puritans, rockers and reactionaries. None the less, the attacks on disco gave respectable voice to the ugliest kinds of unacknowledged racism, sexism and homophobia." (A Change Is Gonna Come)
And to quote Chic's Nile Rogers:
"It felt to us like Nazi book-burning. This is America, the home of jazz and rock and people were now afraid even to say the word 'disco'. I remember thinking - we're not even a disco group."
So I don't want to imply that Disco Demolition Night wasn't a shameful moment, because it was. However, it didn't kill disco. I see a lot of music retrospectives use this event as the one climactic moment that killed the genre and forced music itself to change. And I get why; it's an exciting and narratively satisfying conclusion to come to. But I don't want to say that, because I don't want to give Steve Dahl, the anti-disco shock jock radio DJ who organized the event, the credit in taking down an entire subculture.
Commercialization killed disco. White executives and artists cramming disco into everything without appreciating its roots killed disco. Gentrification killed disco. Changing tastes killed disco. Homophobia and racism killed disco. Capitalism killed disco.
A radio DJ and his angry drunk white boy fans storming a baseball stadium didn't kill disco. But it was the symptom of a disease that was already coursing through the system.
And despite the genre's historic death, disco would actually continue to live on past this decade in a variety of ways. Much like most other genres, disco was able to change and evolve with the times -- it just couldn't do so under the "disco" label as even the name itself became poison.
Also, as I said I keep these polls focused on the U.S. charts because that's where I'm from so I have a better understanding of the musical and historic context. However, it seems like disco's death was mostly contained to this country. When I glance at the various European charts (and any European followers can feel free to correct me), disco didn't seem to drop off in the same way. This will become relevant when we cover some of the European crossovers in a few decades.
So as we celebrate/mourn the end of the seventies with its last dance party, we can all come together and agree that whether you're a rock fan or a disco fan, at least most of your music has aged better than talk radio.
See you all in the 80's.

curious if you have any takes on what hs characters would listen to
i HAVE. ENTIRE SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS DUDE (they're linked in the names). heres just some of the humans for now but if u want the rest lmk LOL
dave: 2009 dave listens to misogynistic ultra-masc rap n hiphop (50 cent, a$ap) + online-type aggressive "subversive" dudes (tyler in his goblin/slur era, donald glover in his slur era-- think Les and bonfire, kanye) + skrillex style EDM, as he realizes hes bi n works thru his issues, he transitions to more "sensitive" artists (frank ocean, flowerboy tyler the creator, kevin abstract, kid cudi) and adds in some experimental (arca, yves tumor, aphex). i think ultimately amine reminds me the most of dave's energy overall tho (limbo is v him, burden probably his anthem).
dirk: the music taste of the worst man u know. anime nightcore covers, drain gang, etc. but as u get deeper into his psyche, it goes "ironic" (unironic) anime -> alt hip hop -> nu metal (nine inch nails, ho99o9) -> alt edm but also slurville/evil ass music (mindless self indulgence, hollywood undead) + lgbt rave anthems -> dark compositional ambient (vessel, maenad veyl). it ends at creep by radiohead.
rose: "avant garde, horror, and feminine blasphemy" so that means dark compositional ambient (a lot of phillip glass & horror soundtracks + violins), a lot of dark music (vessel, lucifer), gay edm (boyz noise), & alt edm (pearly drops, john glacier, eartheater). i think shes a very fka twigs/earth eater/arca type of girl. i imagine her liking sensual french songs + alt/indie metal (unloved, red mecca), and when she's younger/when she's early on in the comic, classic riot grrrl (shes a critical consumer obvi) and sonic youth + mitski/fiona apple (thats when her mommy issues r the worst)
roxy: high energy femme songs/lgbt alt + hyperpop. like babymetal, some azaelia (again, shes a conscious consumer) tove lo, alice gas, cobrah, slayyter, some megan, bigklit, young ma (i think roxy wouldve had a crush on young ma), plus rock/metal like nova twins. willow, machine girl, rico nasty, shygirl, ashnikko, kali uchis, flo milli, chloexhalle, etc. yeah she would have the tastes of a crazy hot girl
jade: nature sounds w experimental/ambient (a lot of green-house), solange, pink pantheress, the marias. a lot of indie/teenage girl core, light sounds. some experimental: grimes, machine girl, cocteau twins, lush. she likes kate bush and prince; upbeat, playful and danceable songs. her main themes r songs abt optimism, belief, hope, romance.
john: listens to the tiktok top charts. i began with sad, reflective compositions (maxene cyrin) and a lot of operatics/ambient (phillip glass, m83, ataraxia), then transitioned into the tiktok side (memo boy, the avalanches) -> old 60s rnb, jazz, blues -> 2000s indie and tiktok resurgence (gorillaz, vierre cloud, omar apollo), and then contemp straight boy top charts/pop (tyler the creator, kid cudi, kanye) + tiktok indie (tame impala, MGMT). hes got corny/cheesy tastes bc i think hes a genuine guy that just likes what he likes w no shame

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marc!.... no, Steven... no, again Marc. The switching was non-stop between the two personalities. Each pulling each other apart and practically screaming to get a hold of the body. Only after they caught a fateful glimpse of someone they've thought they would never see in a long, long time...her.
◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇
The rain started to slowly but surely pound the outside of the building. Eagerly wanting to break inside. However, the sound of swinging jazz music mixed with the hustle and bustle of life managed to drown it out well. The grand size of the downtown bar in Latveria was a known delight for those wanting to have some fun. Of course, it was actually known for the "Important's," or the higher-ups and well known people of the town. That's where Marc Spector a.k.a Mr Moonknight came in; not just to party, but to get some answers.
There had been rumors that an unknown and upcoming vigilante of some sorts had it out for the hero. How did he know? Well let's just say a piece of mail including a flat piece of stone with the scraggly engraving of 'THE TIME FOR JUSTICE HAS COME. NEVER FORGOTTEN. YOUR MOON WILL SOON BE AT AN ECLIPSE.' Was not exactly a fan letter him or Steven was hoping for.. and how the heck did it even get past the post office? Behind the stone was an invitation to a party in Latveria. Oddly far away, but this needs to be stopped at once as Khonshu insisted behind him.
Back at the joint, sipping from his martini glass and leaning against the bar top. Marc was keeping an eye out for someone suspicious while also trying to ignore Stevens' whining about wanting to order a drink too. He rolled his eyes whilst listening and was about to take another sip, but quickly stopped.
The glass rapidly slided out from his grasp and crashing onto the floor when his eyes met with hers....Y/N. The man processed for a moment, almost twitching whilst taking her presence in. The way her curled locks draped over her shoulder and how her dress hugged and flowed from her curvaceous body. She practically glowed with the help of the light hitting her angles just right. Drinking her beauty in, his guard was let down as Steven won and pulled himself to be the host of the body.
It had been years since the two had seen each other and their last interaction was too foggy to recall. However the two only remembered one thing, and that was the vast amount of love they had for her. Steven's heart practically felt like it was going run out of his chest and try to beat him to her as he walked over. She stood there with a champagne glass, swirling the liquid around while leaning against a table. A smile graced her lips after taking a swig of the bubbly drink, hoping to ease the .. feelings growing inside of her.
Steven gave her a grand hug and she returned it. He then pulled way saying, "Its been so long since I've seen you! I - I can't believe how you look! I - I mean y - you look amazing. I'm sorry-" Marc inside was heavily facepalming inside while muttering "and yoU look like a bLoody idiot thats what" in an teasingly exaggerated British accent. "Shut up" Steven said then widened his eyes when he realized he said that in front of her. Quickly whilst waving his hands about in front of him he said, "Oh n - no I'm terribly sorry love I - I meant that towards Marc not you I-" However, Y/N just chuckled and responded with "Its fine I understand especially with you being a hot shot and all now on the news.~"
His shoulders drooped as he let out a sigh of relief and agreed with her while letting out a small chuckle himself. "So what brings knighty knight vigilante out over here?" Y/N quizzically asked with a cheeky grin while setting her glass down. Steven scoffed out a response saying, "Knighty knight? Really? And ah you know I - Its just some business- ahem, what about you eh?" She squinted her eyes and nodded, not trying to pry any further and tapped her nails along the rim of the table thoughtfully. "You know just to party... even make amends you could say~" the last part slyly coming out of her mouth.
She leaned her chin onto her hand somewhat mumbling out, "Ones growth and gains of strength needs a reward after all~" Her eyes gleamed at the end of the sentence leaving Steven's to be filled with confusion. Before he could inqure any further, she jumped up and grabbed his hand pulling him outside. "Come on slow poke, let's dance! For old time's sake!" She shouted as she giggled while dragging him to the scenery out back.
The moonlight shoned over the two as they walked over to the middle of the open, grassy plains. Her arms draped over his shoulders whilst swaying back and forth to the slow jazz playing out back. A sly smirk plastered on her face from seeing Steven's nervous reaction. Marc was practically begging to let him take over at this point, but Steven anxiously gulped down his worries and shakily placed his hands on her hips. She looked up and into his eyes, her graceful smile melted any remaining fears away.
'H - hey this isn't that bad actually.. t - this is quite nice... I could get get used this.' Steven slowly thought as he eased his chin down to rest on her head. He paused momentarily before placing it fully down, almost asking for permission to lay it there. When she nodded and didn't defy he did so and was completely ecstatic about it. His heart was fluttering, 'you and me both pal' Marc called out from the window behind. It was heavenly moment with just the two of them slow dancing in the beautiful night.
Her heart was also pounding in her chest as well..... but not from the emotion of love....
Only from the amount of pure adrenaline coursing through her veins. Slowly and cautiously, she reached over. Clicking the charm on her thick - but not strangely thick - bracelet with her oppposite hand. Gently sliding out a pointed blade, reflecting her nervous, but determined expression. The plan of execution was in motion and would have gone smoothly for her, but just as the couple slowly turned. Marc happened to notice a bright gleam from the corner of their eye from the reflection of the silver blade, 'Ah shi-'
Quickly Marc took over and shot his arms straight up in between hers whilst harshly pushing her back. Thankfully, the weapon only nicking his lower jawline as she stumbled backwards. His hand touched the slight wound and shakily looked down at the drop of crimson on his fingertips. "W - why?" He barely mustered out and glanced over at her.
Tears of anger brimmed at the rim of her eyes, threatening to fall over as she let out a harsh chuckle. "Why? WHYY??? Cmonn MArC I thought you were supposed to be the BrAins out of the two!" She spitted out not failing to hide the sheer amount of rage towards the man.
*Blood. Blood everywhere. The ground and walls practically stained and dripped crimson*
They were at a standstill, but both were stalking in a slow and steady circle. "You mean to tell me you don't remember?!? Anything at all??" She hissed out as she waved her hands up in the air in a manic manner. Marc nervously licked his dry lips as nothing came to mind and shook his head.
*A woman on her knees agonizingly screaming and crying out from the scene before her. Blood was splattered onto her body and matted into her locks*
A scoff left her lips as she distantly gazed at him while flashes from her past popped into her mind. "Seriously?.... what do you think happened on the night of our last moments together?" She seethed, adjusting the silver chain necklace that laid above her collar bone. Marc looked hard at the heart locket that was connected to it. A headache forming in the process.
*In front of the woman laid a man with his neck sliced open, all the blood draining from his body. In front of the couple stood a white crusader with his now stained crescent blade. His breath heavily going in and out then suddenly coming out from the current trance. The first thing he noticed was the silver band on the dead man's hand by his throat. Then quickly looking up at the sobbing woman; noticing the heart on the necklace...and the ring attached next to it. Bobbing up and down to match the rhythm of sobs that raked her body. In a swift movement of his cape he was gone just as fast as he appeared*
It clicked. It all clicked into place for Marc. That night... no wonder it was all fogged up for him. He stopped in his tracks, "I - I'm so sorry I didn't mean to-" "Didn't mean too?!?! MARC, MY HUSBAND IS DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU!" She practically screamed out from the top of her lungs. Silence fell between the two with the faint music playing in the background; as the couple managed to get further away from the bar. Steadily he spoke out, "It.. it looked like ya'll were heavily arguing and shouting at each other." She froze in her spot and sternly looked over at him, "What?" Steven, heck even Khonshu, tried to get him to stop talking. Yet the American continued rambling on.
"Then when ya'll suddenly stopped and he raised his arms...I thought..I thought he was going to attack you. Even Khonshu gave us the green light to save you." He said while never breaking eye contact. She looked at him wildly and searingly spoke out, "Marc.... Couples are allowed to argue. No relationship is perfect. Sure we heavily voiced out our opinions, but came to an agreement at the end." She sucked in a shaky breath, "He.... He was trying to give me a hug Marc. A HUG YOU DAMN IDIOT! YOU KNOW, WHEN COUPLES TRY TO MAKE UP IN THE END?" The escalated yelling left her with hot tears finally streaming down her face. "I - I was only trying to protect you y/n," he whispered out at this point. "You know I should've thrown that big stone at your face instead of mailing it."
Marc's eyes widened in realization just as her dry chuckle caught his attention. "Well I hope you enjoyed the party because here comes the main event that you've all been waiting for!~" She doubled tapped the locket and black fabric seeped out, consuming her body and face. The silver necklace melted over to the middle of her chest forming a circle. It looked almost black with the fabric reflecting of the darkened silver. Her bracelets formed into cuffs, both blades jutting out from them now. "So you're!-" "Eclipse! That is the name yes don't wear it out now~...you know you're not the only one with hook ups right?" Swinging the blades around then posing she shouted, "I've gotten this far and am not here to waste anymore time so let's get to it shall we?~"
Before he could respond, she quickly slashed out towards him and he swiftly moved out of the way. He brought forth the suit just in time to block her blade with his own. Their faces inches apart and chests heaving up and down. One filled with fiery rage, but other still with love and hesitance to hurt the other. The battle strongly ensued for a long while, both going neck at neck. Alas, one still needed more practice in the end.
Eclipse was too focused on guarding her upper body and thus left the bottom open. Moonkight quickly noticed this and faked a right jab then quickly went low. In a swift circular motion, he swiped her feet out from under her with his left leg. She yelped as she fell onto her side, but before she could get up he was already on top of her. He managed to swiftly take off her blades with his own and dug hard into the dark, metallic circle. Moonknight was too overpowering and he managed to rip it straight off her suit.
The circle melted in his hands back into the form of her necklace and her suit unraveled. Leaving a fearful y/n underneath, however she gritted her teeth and tried to push him off. Sadly, to no avail, she could only hold back a sob as she watched his hood unveil from his face. Marc tapped Steven in for this part, switching expressions as he then began shushing her. Marc was still there, but in the reflection of the puddle next to her. Tears once again strolled down her now winded face. He gently wiped them away with his thumb. Steven leaned over her and held y/n arms over her head with one hand. His other hand now dangling the necklace in front of her face. "You have to be careful when using this darling- y - you could get seriously injured." He meekly stated out as he then stuffed all the jewelry back in his garment pockets.
Using the same free hand, Steven moved a strand of hair from her face. "Y - you know we - l - love you and never want to see you hurt...we love you so much." Her glassy eyes widened after the sudden confession. She quickly spat in his face and then dryly croak out, "Oh yeah? Well, I hate you. To the Moon and back.~" Steven and Marc both winced at the sarcastic, but truthful jab. Still both suddenly came to the same conclusion and nodded in agreement. Y/n gasped out in shock as he swiftly picked her up bridal style. "W - what are you doing, you dumba-!" She screeched out, but before she could scream anymore. Strands of his white fabric wrapped tightly against the bottom half of her face. Her muffled yelling was overtaken by his calm, but loud voice speaking out while walking. His apartment being the goal in mind.
"Hey, shhh darling it's alright! Look okay, Marc and I .... a- are terribly sorry for the whole lot we've done. It's only because all we ever wanted was to keep you safe and protected okay? .... it's you it's always been you," he shakily breathed out. Steven reassured, a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lip. However, maybe it was from the lighting, or the blurry vision .... but his eyes practically screamed
Les McCann was already an established solo artist — a blues-forward jazz pianist in his 30s, with more than two dozen albums to his name — when he had a career-defining moment at the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival. There, during an impromptu jam with the saxophonist Eddie Harris, he dug into a new song by his friend Gene McDaniels, which struck a cultural nerve.
The song was "Compared to What," an anguished yawp of disillusionment that Roberta Flack had recorded several months earlier for her debut album, First Take. McCann begins his version with a rollicking vamp, which he takes through a handful of escalating key modulations before a startling entry on vocals, two minutes in. With a soulful holler, he brings plainspoken fire to lyrics that skewer rampant greed, religious hypocrisy and the quagmire in Vietnam: "The president, he's got his war," McCann sings in the third verse. "Folks don't know just what it's for."
The song's temperament, outraged and despairing, captured something crucial about the era; so too did its rhythmic drive and righteous, consuming fervor. When Atlantic Records released "Compared to What" as a single, it spent four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100; Swiss Movement, the live album on which it appears, held a spot on the Billboard 200 for 38 weeks. The song remained a calling card for McCann for the rest of his musical career, which yielded many more successful albums — including a sequel with Harris, Second Movement, in 1971 — as well as samples by hip-hop artists like Massive Attack, Mobb Deep and The Notorious B.I.G.
McCann died on Dec. 29, 2023, at a hospital in Los Angeles, at 88, of pneumonia. Alan Abrahams, a veteran producer and record executive who served as his manager, confirmed his death, noting that McCann had lived at a nursing facility for the last four years.
With a ringing, percussive piano style and a rousing command of the beat, McCann always amounted to more than one breakout hit could encapsulate. The grit and grease in his playing, informed by his early experience in the gospel church, helped establish the subgenre known as soul jazz. That sound is already fully present on an album he recorded live in 1961, Les McCann Ltd. Plays the Shampoo at The Village Gate. (Along with "The Shampoo," an early hit, it includes McCann originals titled "Someone Stole My Chitlins" and "Filet of Soul.")
The urge to move his audiences extended to a new sonic palette when McCann embraced electric pianos and synthesizers — notably on the 1972 album Invitation to Openness, which features Yusef Lateef on assorted reeds and flutes, and Cornell Dupree on electric guitar. His subsequent albums with Atlantic, often incorporating synths and clavinet, formed the basis for his popularity as a sample source for hip-hop producers.
Leslie Coleman McCann was born on Sept. 23, 1935, in Lexington, Ky. His father, James, worked at the Lexington Water Company; his mother, Anna, was a homemaker who took occasional housekeeping jobs. He was one of six children, with four brothers and a sister. "Everybody was in a position of doing the best they could with whatever," he recalled in a 2015 interview with Red Bull Music Academy. "We never thought of ourselves as being poor."
Still, McCann grew up with limited resources, and was almost entirely self-taught as a pianist. He played sousaphone and drums in his high school marching band, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He often told a story about hearing Erroll Garner's recording of "Lullaby of Birdland" during his service, and having the sudden realization that the piano was his calling. But while stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area, he won a talent contest as a vocalist — an accolade that landed him an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956.
After his discharge, he formed a piano trio, which found work backing Gene McDaniels at the Purple Onion jazz club in San Francisco. McDaniels took the trio on tour, after which McCann moved to Los Angeles, working at clubs like the Hillcrest and signing to the Pacific Jazz label. The band that he called Les McCann Ltd. recorded a string of surefooted albums, and also played on the debut album by the jazz-R&B singer Lou Rawls, in 1962.
McCann eventually left the Pacific Jazz roster for Limelight, a Mercury subsidiary overseen by Quincy Jones, before landing at Atlantic Records. There his partnership with the producer Joel Dorn yielded a number of successes, starting with the 1969 album Much Les. Featuring McCann's electric piano against a complement of strings, the album also spotlighted his vocals, notably on a ballad called "With These Hands," which became a hit.
Here and throughout his career, McCann faced enduring critiques of his piano playing, which lacked the outward sophistication and technical precision of some of his peers, especially those who'd mastered the lingua franca of bebop. "I think what Les did musically, for most of his career, was really brave," attests Joe Alterman, a pianist who regarded McCann as a mentor, and released an album in tribute last year. "He wasn't a bebop player. He appreciated it, but he really loved these joyful piano players. So I think Les was kind of going against the grain."
McCann's most recent release, just out on Resonance Records, bolsters the point. Titled Never a Dull Moment! Live From Coast to Coast 1966-67, it features a few effervescent trio dates from the same era, at the Penthouse in Seattle (1966) and the Village Vanguard in New York (1967). There are, in fact, some bebop tunes, like Dizzy Gillespie's "Blue 'n' Boogie," in the set list. But the spirit of the playing has little room for bebop's idiomatic concerns. It adheres instead to a characterization of McCann from Bob Porter's 2016 book Soul Jazz: Jazz in the Black Community, 1945-1975, as "a pianist of enormously contagious enthusiasm."
McCann was certainly that, and more besides. He had a good ear for talent: He was the one who brought Roberta Flack to Atlantic, and he is credited with discovering the soul-jazz organist Richard "Groove" Holmes. And he was a gifted photographer whose portraits were anthologized in the acclaimed 2015 collection Invitation To Openness: The Jazz & Soul Photography Of Les McCann 1960-1980.
At the same time, McCann held a steadfast devotion to certain core principles, in music as in life. "The blues is definitely one of my major religions," he affirmed in a 1986 interview with Ben Sidran. "I mean, I like to think of whatever we do as something that's uplifting and giving to the world so that it's on the positive side, that is saying that we are here for a purpose. We are a part of this. We do count."
