People knock on Rhoam for being a bad dad cuz he's distant and stern to little Zelda and say how Rauru is the goat (heh) for taking her in like his own daughter. Like Zelda had her real parental connection with Sonia and Rauru. But frankly that's a little reductive.
Rauru literally descended from the heavens, married a priest, started a kingdom. Man didn't really know much strife yet. There's no looming threat of calamity or prophecy yet. Things are peaceful. Things are fine. Things are great. Zelda dropped in during this time, talking about a doom that's going to happen tens of thousands of years in the future.
This sad, lost princess.
Of course any reasonable person would take her in and calm her and tell her she is fine and listen and support her.
Rhoam not being able to be this kind of figure for Zelda is tragic. Just read this poor man's journal entries:
"It has been a year and three months since her mother passed. Perhaps she is held back by heartache too deep to heal. If the Ganon prophecy wasn't looming over our heads, I would tell her to take her time... To wait until she is ready. But our situation is dire and leaves no room for weakness—even on behalf of my beloved daughter. My heart breaks for Zelda, but I must act as a king, not a father. I must order her to train relentlessly at the fountain." Pg 4.
"In truth, I understand Zelda's feelings. Painfully so. She lost her mother, her teacher, before she could learn from her. Ten pointless years of self-training, without so much as a book or note to help her find her way... Those in the castle talk behind her back. And I, her only family, scold her for her shortcomings. No wonder she wishes to hide away in her beloved relic research. I'd love nothing more than to console her... But I must stay strong. She MUST fulfill her duty, just as we all must. Even if she comes to despise me." Pg 6.
"I have been told my Zelda went to the Spring of Wisdom... This will likely be her last chance. If she is unable to awaken her power at Lanayru, all hope is truly lost. If she comes back without success, then I shall speak kindly with her. Scolding is pointless now. I forced 10 years of training on her... and after all that, it seems her power will stubbornly awaken some other way. Perhaps I should encourage her to keep researching her beloved relics. They may just lead her to answers I can't provide. For now, I sit anxiously, more a father than a king in this moment. I sit and await my daughter's return." Pg 7. (He fucking dies and never gives Zelda this bit of closure uuuugggghhhhhhh Zelda I'm so sorry Rhoam I'm so sorry)
It sucks because most people remember the cutscenes (duh it's more immersive and important) and in the cutscenes of the first game Rhoam was mostly shown as being stern and mean to babygirl Zelda, who is closed fists explaining herself to him at the verge of tears. And in contrast everyone in the first royal family of hyrule in the second game treated her with such kindness and we can see how happy she was being there with them.
Rhoam was shackled by duty. By prophecy. By the looming calamity. And from the day he named his daughter 'Zelda' he shackled her as well.
And what does Zelda do with these shackles? She accepts them. She tolerates them. Because she loves her father and her kingdom and knows there's a power dormant in her that can stop the calamity that she must do her best to unlock. She does this dutifully. She does all the training, she does everything that is required.
But it still doesn't unlock. So she tries other ways. She isn't just going after the 'relics' because she's scholarly and nerdy and wants to learn about them. She does it because she's pragmatic. She knows her sacred sealing power isn't present in her. She knows she might not be able to control it or even unlock it in time.
So she tries this alternative approach. The Divine Beasts, the guardians. Ancient tech that was used to prevent the calamity of their time. And she awakened the tech. And her father chose the champions for each divine beast. And they were all prepared. And it's all thanks to Zelda.
And then... Fucking tragedy again. Ganon probably learned his lesson from the last time he was thwarted and immediately went for the tech, corrupting it and turning it against the new users. Against Zelda.
It's never really stated how fast it all turned to shit when the tech betrayed them (or maybe I don't remember) but every account points to it being almost overnight. The champions died. Rhoam died. And suddenly, suddenly Zelda unlocks her sealing magic.
I always always hate the literary trope of using tragedy to unlock a great power that could've actually stopped the tragedy from happening in the first place.
And it's no different in BOTW. I hate that Zelda had to go through all this to unlock her powers.
And then what happens next?
She's stuck in limbo (in an almost mocking parallel to Rauru in the next game with his imprisoning arm) holding Ganon back. For a hundred years.
This young woman had gone through so much only to be trapped with a calamity seeking to destroy Hyrule for a century.
Does she know her father died in the war? Does she know the champions died in battle? Would she know Link would survive in the Shrine of Resurrection? Would she know how long it would all take? The century she would have to wait?
I think she didn't. I think it all happened too fast. I think ultimately, she decided a stalemate with ganon was an agreeable outcome. I think in her mind she probably thought she failed Hyrule. When the divine beasts turned she must have been distraught. Distraught might not even cover it tbh. But at least... At least when the kingdom was brought to it's knees by the corrupted tech and was waiting for the final blow, she had the ability to ensure the final blow never came.
And oh boy I have a looot more to talk about regarding Tears of the Kingdom. But I do want to have a couple of more playthroughs of it to really formulate what I want to say.

Something that I’m passionate about is public libraries because of all the support and resources that they provide to their local communities. I know I’ve probably spoken on here before about how important it is to get a library card and use it because of all the perks it can give you (such as free access to online books, movies, and such). For those who are lower class it can provide them with programs, free wifi, free computer use, etc… Public libraries are just so overwhelmingly good for everyone.
In terms of the Global strike, I would like to suggest that people go to their libraries and recommend different Palestinian books. I’m not sure if it differs per state/per library on how you recommend a book, but I know if you use the Libby app through your library card that you can recommend books by tagging them “Notify me”. I know my library system is quite different as it branches out statewide and so I have access to statewide books. I would suggest filling out the forms that come up to recommend a book or talking to a librarian over the phone if you notice they are missing a Palestinian book that you would like to read.
Here is a list of Palestinian nonfiction books that I’ve found:
The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappe
On Palestine by Noam Chomsky and Ilan Pappe
Except for Palestine by Marc Lamont Hill and Mitchell Plitnick
This Arab is Queer by Elias Jahshan
Blood Orange by Yaffa AS
Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Y Davis
The Hundreds Years’ War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi
Here is a list of Palestinian fiction books that I’ve found:
Where Black Stars Rise by Nadia Shammas and Marie Enger
Nayra and the Djinn by Iasmin Omar Ata
You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat
Salt Houses by Hala Alyan
Squire by Nadia Shammas and Sara Alfageeh
Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa
Trees for the Absentees by Ahlam Bsharat
Something More by Jackie Khalilieh
Muneera and the Moon by Sonia Sulaiman
I haven’t been reading a lot lately because of my health, but a lot of these came recommended from people I trust to give good recommendations. Feel free to add recommendations in the comments and please contact your local libraries about acquiring the books you see here that they don’t have!

@causalitylinked asked:  RECOVER : [ from ryuto! maybe he returned a stephen king book that she either owned or borrowed from the library ]
A Comprehensive List of Scenarios - No Longer Accepting!
"That's very kind, but you didn't need to bring it all the way here," Sonia smiled over her takeaway cup of bubble tea. One of the cafes in close proximity to Hope's Peak were running an end of season special on their cold drinks, so when Ryuto had messaged her, indicating he'd be in the Towa City area, she'd suggested he meet her there. It was in walking distance of the dorms so at least he wouldn't have to wait long. "I would've been more than happy to meet you halfway between our neighborhoods. I'm sure it was a bit of a journey for you."
Sonia tucked her book back into her bag. The dark, eerie cover was the Japanese version of the Stephen King classic, Salem's Lot, and she wondered how Ryuto would fare with it. Horror didn't seem to be his forte but the American author was well-known, even across the Pacific, and thus Sonia guessed that was why he asked for one by him. Coincidentally, she took a sip of her drink: a deep red smoothie bubble tea, with plenty of black tapioca pearls on the bottom. By the look of it, it seemed better suited to fall: the color was quite close to blood after all. "What did you think of it, though? Apparently, Mr. King thought of the story by wondering how Dracula would fare in modern day America, and believed that he'd be struck by a taxi in New York City. Thus, a rural, remote setting for a vampire story was born. Still though, I do wonder how vampires would fare in urban environments, especially if they are unaccustomed to modern technologies and improvements."
She beamed at the thought: vampires, stuck in centuries-old ways learning to navigate the modern world with one another. That would be entertaining indeed! She would quite like to see such a story, if not meet vampires herself. Sonia chewed on a few of the boba that had come through her straw: she'd have to return to campus soon for a tutoring session, but at least while he was here, she could offer him another book out of her personal library. Hope's Peak didn't take kindly to those unaffiliated with the school to lend out books, so it was up to her to continue his horror author education.
Tumblr media
"Tsukishima-san, would you like another one to borrow?" She asked, setting her cup aside on the outside table they'd taken up. The weather was far too nice to stay indoors. "It's not exactly horror per se, but there's a magical or supernatural element to it. But I really liked this one: there was plenty of mystery involved but it focuses on first impressions not being what they seem. And that kindness and truth should always come to light in the end, but the story can be very dark at times." Reaching into her bag, she plucked out a copy, in Japanese, of The Green Mile and placed it between them. "Of course, you don't need to feel compelled to take it! I just thought it was a very good story and you may like it too."

rewording a post i made a while ago just bc it was a bit nonsensical but something that definitely needs to be examined in the danganronpa fandom is how a lot of characters seem to be interpreted through one single lens of intelligence. does that make sense. like in order for a character to be “smart” in this fandom they SPECIFICALLY need to be book smart and well spoken, regardless of their talents. we gotta shape up guys .. examining other types of intelligence is FASCINATING and really highlights each characters strengths and weaknesses, and this especially applies to emotional intelligence.
like is byakuya smart? absolutely. but is he emotionally intelligent? fuck no!!!! and aoi used that against him in chapter four!!!!!!!! and even though she is misguided as all hell, tenko has the ability to understand her opponent mid-battle and use that to determine how she continues the fight (likely something other fighting ultimates do as well!!!) which is crazy. mikan is able to read facial expressions well, even if she IMMEDIATELY misinterprets this as something she personally did wrong lol. these characters navigate through the killing game differently and in some cases survive because of it, and if you want something interesting to write on it’s definitely something to be examined!!!
also straight up sometimes the fandom interprets characters who don’t speak super formally/are optimistic as dumb too which is so strange. more of the “buff” talents like mondo and fuyuhiko need to understand battle tactics and serious team management/planning in order to get anywhere in their field, but are pushed aside quite a bit because theyre these super gruff macho characters that swear a bunch. sonia as well because she's a fish out of water type of character. and yes he isn’t very well spoken and is very trusting but gonta is an actual scientist guys… i could make a whole separate post about this weird trend of pessimism being seen as smart and optimism as stupid but yeah seriously
anyways all this to say, when writing for a “dumb” character take a step back and ask just what makes them dumb in your eyes. is it because they aren’t considered academic or a scholar?? is it because they’re a “happier” character that might not be as well-spoken?? theres nuance there and this obviously doesn't apply to all of them, like clearly akane isnt super good with emotions or smarts in general, but even THEN her spacial awareness and heightened sense of perception is something that is often under-utilised in fics!! it provides a whole lot of depth to remember that a lot of danganronpa characters are very talented and well versed in other forms of intelligence than what might be most obvious !!!!!

(Post Game) Jabberwock Book Club Meeting Derailed by Single Tube of Nail Polish!
Hinata wants to join and get his nails done so bad but he can't bring himself to admit to it bc he's supposed to be masc (and Komaeda will not take pity on him & call him over even though he noticed)
I like to think Sonia and Komaeda become friends post-game & hang out in the library due to their shared tastes in genre (mystery and true crime) + I don't remember where Jabberwock is exactly but I doubt its main language was Japanese so good chance Komaeda is going to need Sonia's help if he wants to read any surviving books there. Tsumiki gets recruited into it too because I love Komaeda and Tsumiki becoming unlikely friends post-game (literal worsties, big fan) and it becomes a full fledged, weekly meetings having book club.
As for what they're wearing, since post-game the remnants live off of charity from the Future Foundation, I like to think they get these big shipping containers filled with second-hand clothes, and they're usually kind of weird lol. Only Komaeda ALWAYS finds something that's just his style. Souda especially is so mad every single time but no matter how bitter a hater he is Komaeda remains styling. pensive emoji

What is your favorite Candle scent?
(And also, if it pleases you, what do you HC the Dangans fav scents are?)
HMMM.... been pretty fond of sandalwood recently. I didnt know I liked it because I didnt know it existed with a name, but it reminds me of wood varnish found in stuff like old jewelry cases (or in my case, an old music box)!
Also because I actually wrote and drew something to do with sandalwood scent hehe. But. I dont like it enough yet to post it.
But on that topic;
Hajime doesnt like almost any artificial scent; he can smell the actual chemicals too well, and a lot of it makes him feel kinda gross (cheap perfumes straight up smell like pure alcohol). He likes natural scents, like petrichor or the shore, stuff that changes often and can't possibly be recreated in a lab.
Sonia likes a specific scent for a specific creme from her homeland that can't be found anywhere anymore. When she tries to describe it, it sounds ... weird? But she SWEARS it was great. And of course, she likes book smell. Learns to tolerate the smell of rodent enclosures.
Kazuichi is completely neutral about the smells in his near surroundings (he might smell like oil, grease, gasoline and sweat, but he barely notices (someone ELSE might notice, and even appreciate)). Hes always liked "girly" smells, like floral perfumes or laundry softeners. The smell of car air fresheners (like the little rubber feet) makes him nauseated.
Akane doesn't like any froufrou stuff! She likes the smell of food, exhaust, dirt, forest and sweat. All natural baby. If anything, she's a bit particular to the smell of rubber and leather, since she uses both frequently at her best (in the gym). For some reason, men's cologne makes her feel physically sick.
Fuyuhiko is a traditional dude and likes traditional smell, like incense, oils, and bamboo. Nothing too overpowering. Just plain soap, too. His least favourite smell is not something he'll admit out loud (at worst, he'll seem like he cant handle himself, at best, it's just depressing), and you could never tell anyway.

Pairing: Keith/Reader(she/her)
Words: 614
Prompt: "Oh, God." He muttered, his heart dancing in his chest. "What did we just do." From this prompt list.
Context: I livestreamed me writing on my server, Scummy Streams, and let whoever joined pick a prompt for me to write then and there! @ridiculouslly-ridiculous picked out this prompt with Keef, and then we sat and... listened to lofi calmly as I typed ahahaha
Tumblr media
There were many instances where Keith’s heart was set aflutter- those moments where turning the pages to another one of Sonia’s books had his chest pounding in excitement and intrigue, or those lonely moments where he ‘woke up’, dazed and confused with his surroundings.
Typically, it was quick for him to piece together what had happened. If he was in the woods at random, he knew his other self likely needed a break from the politics and royal bullshit. If it was his apothecary, it was easy to gleam what exactly his other half had been concocting- so on, so forth. And those moments where his heart ramped in speed would only last for seconds before he was able to let out a sigh of relief.
However… This time he awoke to another set of eyes before his, and his heart slammed into his throat. A coughing gasp, and he nearly jumped out of his skin with how fast he took a step back, mind racing to put together the messy pieces of this scenario.
He blinked rapidly, trying to process what had happened- your face was set with a deep blush, lips slightly parted as you brushed the pads of your fingers along them, also sharing some of his wonder to an extent. The more he glanced around - taking note of what little space the balcony he was on had, the faint bustle of noises through the covered glass doors behind you -  the more his chest constricted.
"Oh, God." He muttered, hand pressed against his racing heart. "What did we just do."
You started to speak before your brows furrowed, a flash of disbelief across your features. In that moment, he was busy trying to quell his own thoughts. Was his first kiss just taken away from him? Did he really switch just after the experience ended, leaving him to act like a fool in front of you?
“What do you mean?”
Oh… Snapped back into reality, it was easier to see how the sweet bewilderment in your gaze transformed into betrayal, hurt.
“W-w-well, that is… we, um…”
Nothing was coming out right, because what could he say in this moment? How could he explain what must surely look like a blundered attempt at a retreat from…whatever situation has transpired before. There must have been sweet words exchanged, because what else could explain the prickle of heated tears in your eyes.
You turned on your heel swiftly, no doubt in a rush to hide the waves of emotion rolling through you. Even when he called out for you to just wait, just for one moment, you still left him alone on that cold balcony, still trying to process what just happened.
Did… His other self just ruin any chance he had pursuing you, his crush?
The temptation to linger and just stare blankly at your fleeting form, your body weaving and disappearing into the crowded ballroom, was a strong and familiar feeling. It brought forth memories of other instances where his feet had been rooted to the spot, watching a misunderstanding take off while he did nothing to stop it.
Did he really want that to happen with you, as well? Could he continue his stay in Rhodolite having to dodge you in the hallways and the library, never getting to spare more than casual greetings your way?
Imagining that- the way you’d possibly look hurt, unable to meet his eyes from this point forward, had his feet moving before his brain could catch up with his actions. Clumsily, perhaps a little too forcefully, he made his way from the balcony and through the ballroom, determined to find you and set this right.
Tumblr media
Annnnnnd that is that! Short lil ditty. I don't write keith that often and wasn't sure how to tackle this one, and thought in this type of scenario that alt keith COULD be an asshole like this....IF he wanted... I imagine alt Keith probably did this as a way to spur Keith to admit his feelings- like to finally get the balls to, rather than just let another crush fizzle out due to being too scare to pursue it.
That's that.

“Where’s Roy?” says Sonia after she has hugged all the children and given Violet a quick but loving kiss on the lips. “Isn’t he coming?”
“Yeah, he's here. He just had to go to the bathroom,” says Henrietta. Violet gives Sonia a knowing look. Sonia arches her eyebrows high in reply. “Later,” Violet mouths. She isn’t going to let Roy ruin her reunion with Sonia, who looks incredible- clear- skinned and animated and glowing with health.
“Are you all better now, Mummy?” says Alexandra.
“Very nearly,” says Sonia with a smile. “I just needed a lot of rest. And some…tools.”
“What kind of tools?” says Angus.
“Coping tools,” says Sonia. ”For when things get a bit too much.”
“Cool,” says Angus. “Are you coming home soon? I’m getting sick of Apollo’s cooking. He puts too much garlic in everything.”
This makes Sonia and Violet laugh. The girls fill Sonia in on what has been happening at school, and the fact that they have all lost baby teeth since Sonia ‘went away.’ Angus’s football team made the semi-finals. The Book Club selection for this month is ‘Down the River Unto the Sea’ by Walter Mosley, chosen by Violet. And their friend Effie announced at the Book Club meeting last week that she’s pregnant!
“That's wonderful. She must be so happy,” says Sonia. “Where was the meeting held? At Lyndall’s house?”
“Yeah, and everyone was bitching about how cold it was, but she wouldn’t turn the heating on,” says Violet. “She served up some delicious lemonade scones, though. I got the recipe.”
“What reason did you give them for me not being there?” says Sonia.
“I just said you weren’t well,” says Violet. “Nobody asked any questions. Well, nobody except Judy, of course. You know what she’s like. But she realised I wasn’t going to tell her anything so she shut up. Eventually.”
“She’s such a gossip,” says Sonia. Angus and the girls ask if they can go for a walk around the grounds.
“There’s a lovely fishpond down the end of that path,” says Sonia. “You should go and have a look. Please makes sure nobody falls in, Angus. And don’t talk to anyone.”
"I've missed you so much," says Violet after the kids are our of earshot, plonking herself down next to Sonia. "I need to give you a proper kiss. Come here."
They are so engrossed that they don't hear Roy approach.
"HELL YEAH," he whoops, punching the air. "That's what I'm talking about. Hey, is either of you hungry? How about both of you scooting over and making some room for a Roy sandwich?"
