How long does it take for you to finish drawing?

I'm an artist (beginner) and i unconsciously set unrealistic goals for myself and need a reminder of how long it takes to complete a drawing, Thanks.

Hi! In the context you presented it in, that is a really interesting question, so I'll try to approach it thoroughly. I hope I won't make you roll your eyes too much.

Where to start, where to start... I guess the first thing I should say is that there is a difference between time I spend preforming the action of <drawing>, and the time I spent <working> on a particular piece. The first would be counted in hours, the second one - days. I'm a big believer in slowing things down, and giving things time - going through options, gathering research and references, taking breaks every 1h of sitting and drawing - and seeing things through until I achieve the goal I set at the beginning of the process.

The goals are usually different each time: "quick design", "character exploration", "analysis of an artist's linework and experimenting with the knowledge gained", "creating an aesthetically pleasing image", and so on and so forth. Of course I don't write these down like it's a school assignment, but knowing in the back of my head what I'm actually doing helps me manage my expectations. I also enjoy being conscious of why I create - when I was younger regardless of what I was doing I had the thought "AND IT MUST LOOK GOOD AND PRESENTABLE! BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL LOOK!" ...and I think that obsession is the cancer of creative process.

Since the goals for each picture are different, the time I'll spent on achieving each one will be different as well, because the "satisfactory results" lay in different places. For example, the Marcile sketchpage was created in one afternoon, and took approximately 3 hours. The goal was to play around with a brush that has no opacity forcing my lines to be more decisive. I did that and so it is "finished". There's nothing else I want from it.

On the other hand, the cover of Asterism took about 10 days to create, the goal of which was to make "an aesthetically pleasing cover picture taking colour inspiration from the works of (specific list of artists)". I took my time designing it so that it looks aesthetically pleasing, made sure the anatomy is "correct" (a nebulous statement when it comes to stylised humans), took my time masking, and picking colours, and shading. I wanted it to "look good" to my own eyes so if something was not working I would go back, change it, alter it, move it around... that's the wonderful thing about personal art, you can take as long as you like making something satisfactory.

The funny thing is, with what the Asterism cover actually is (a cellshaded image), it could have been done probably in 4 days by the me 4 years ago. But that person was willing to sit 8-10 hours a day to draw with no breaks, she had little social life, and treated herself as a little circus seal performing tricks so that people clap around her, and the clapping was soooo nice because it meant that people remembered her and she mattered. And it worked for her! For long 10 years! Until her arm gave out, and the reality of never being able to draw again became more tangible than ever, and it's been following her like a fog ever since for the past 4 years. The me today works about 4 hours a day and every hour I take about a 30 minute break. I also don't post half the stuff I draw. There is also another aspect that dictates the speed of creating and that is familiarity with the subject matter. The less you know something, the fast you'll draw it! But as you get to know the intricacies of the process, and see all the building blocks, it will start taking *longer* because you will start accounting for every block. But then you'll eventually get familiar with the blocks and so the time spent on a picture will go down again! The cool yet overwhelming thing about art is that, there are always hundreds of building blocks. Form, composition, ambient occlusion, saturation, hue, light balance, line form...... and those are just the *some* of the generalised *categories*. And each category will have it's own subsection of building blocks! And then those blocks will interact with each other to create completely new area of expertise! This is crazy! Marcille sketch page took me only 3 hours to create because I am already quite familiar with linework - I have drawn 3-4 comicbooks worth of linework. This also means I am familiar with believable anatomy, more or less, which got utilised in the Asterism cover - the main bulk of linework got created during a 3h livestream. So.... what's the answer.... "It's all relative" is so unsatisfactory and probably not what you looked for. But you can draw something in 3 days and kill your body over it. Or you can become an expert in a field and dish the same picture out effortlessly in 8 hours. You can also split that 8h block over multiple days bringing you back up to 3 days. You could even add a whole day of visual research which might make your picture only marginally better. And even if we calculate it in terms of raw working time, pen-to-paper, like a self-inflicted capitalist tumor, that time can fluctuate still due to personal visual library and knowledge base. If I asked Tom Fox how long it takes for him to create his sketch pages his answer would probably be downward of 30 minutes. Yet I need whole 3 hours to create something *less* anatomically correct than him. And so here we are at the end of this perhaps unnecessary essay. And all we learned is this: it depends. Dry, not nuanced tl;dr, my personal timings: single sketch - 30mins; single linework pic 1-2h; Cellshaded illust - 16h; Rendered illust: 20-25h.

"How about both," he smiled before running off to create your tasty toothache.

Being that this is Heeseung...it could get freaky, but I think cuddling would be great for now.

We all know how much of a husband Jay is. So we shouldn't be surprised when he calls you in the kitchen to bake cookies with him.

I could see him coming over to wrap an apron around your waist before you go over to look at the recipe he printed out.

"Soooo, what do we do first?" you ask. "Hmm, let's get out the ingredients and then we can start," he said as you scanned the list with your eyes. After gathering the ingredients and mixing the dough Jay grabs a spoon for you to scoop the cookies onto the tray.

Ok...I can see things getting really cute after this, like maybe one of you mention something about baking cookies with your future kids and the other one blushes. EEK!

As our cute little Aussie boy, I feel like Jake would have fun making a gingerbread house with you.

I can see him getting frustrated as he struggles to keep the walls together.

“Ahh,” Jake sighed as the walls fell down. “Jake…you can’t do them all at once,” you said picking up the frosting covered gingerbread pieces. “Ugh, and you used too much icing,” you giggled. “They’ll never stay together with all this stuff,” you added as you watched Jake hopelessly scrape the frosting off. “Argh! This is impossible!” Jake laughed as he tried again. “Here, let me do it,” you smiled as you held the pieces in place. *Crunch* you looked over to see Jake eating the little candy decorations. “Save some for the house,” you giggled as he licked the icing from his fingers.

"If you fall I'll catch you," he reassured you as the two of you continued inching around the rink. Eventually, you'd do well enough to skate slowly, but you enjoyed watching your boyfriend dance on the ice.

Afterwards he'd probably take you out for coffee...because...why not? Sunghoon LOVES coffee.

I don't remember too much for the middle one that is slightly dimmer. Though I do remember that was the kind of IDEA behind her. She's also holding a knife cause of course. Why have magical powers to kill people when you can harness the power of K N I F E 7/10

I remember a little more about the jester marinette in the back. She had a whole thing with medieval research, jester research, and she also wanted to stab Lila cause everyone wanted to stab lila at the time. 9/10 cause I had a fun time with her

It was a cool idea and I always love when creators take inspiration from how similar Marinette's name is to another word for a kind of puppet "Marionette"

But before I forget, I'll end this post on one of my akumanette's that I tried to squeeze in but never got to. But I did make more art for and I remember the story!

I remember having a background planned but I never really got around to it. Basically the story was that marinette got akumatized but managed to take off her earrings in time. I think the reason for her akumatization was connected to figuring out the secrets that Emilie had been hiding with the peacock miraculous (BEFORE we knew that adrien was a sentimonster).

Tikki had to bring the earrings to Chat Noir and he had to find someone that looked ENOUGH like Ladybug that Hawkmoth wouldn't notice as much that Ladybug wasn't actually there. Enter Mireille cause at the time a few people were pointing out how similar she looked to the dupain chengs.

Akumanette's powers had something to do with casting depression? I think? In the form of dragons? Oh, Also she travels by walking on the dragons so thats cool

I don't remember everything but I did have a lot planned for her.

10/10 just because I had a fun time with her

hey it’s anon — you’ve become my go to rec person, which is why I’m here to ask if you have any recommendations for short and sweet fics. Been looking for some bedtime stories :^)

(Also, Anon, you’re the one that asked about Steel Samurai fics right? Well, I started reading this one called “A Brief For The Defense” by Ophelia_Writes on ao3, so check that one out cause it talks about what you were looking for a while back!)

(Also. I was searching for Christmas fics in my bookmarks just because the Christmas fics are usually the ones that are short and sweet, but now I’m really in the mood for Christmas how dare you Anon)

“Office-Appropriate” by cursedwurn: A hilarious Halloween fanfic that I adore. Featuring all the prosecutors in different costumes. Has an office sitcom type feel (People are seriously, SERIOUSLY, missing out on writing a prosecutors office sitcom type deal. For some reason, sitcom style doesn’t work for the Wright Anything Agency and mainly only works with the Prosecutors Office)

“Disrupting The Calendar” by 3musketears: Also a cute Christmas fic. I’m currently trying to find fics that are short and sweet and I found this one again in my bookmarks and as I started reading it to check if it was good I just kept getting into it and reading it. So yeah, good fic!

“Germination” by Ekat: I JUST READ THIS ONE. Omg, it’s soooo adorable. And absolutely hilarious. You just have to read it, really. It’s short and you can probably guess the real plot from a mile away but I don’t wanna spoil anything because I was so happy when I figured it out. It’s adorable.

“Court Record Companion” by rib14: I Remmeber revealing in this fic when I first read it. I’m also a big sucker for certain fics where the story is told by posts, texts, tweets and photos during the course of the story. There’s something so absolutely funny about it.

“Support Player” by Pirate_Jenna: A really good Larry centered fic. I have already mentioned in detail about how Larry has been done bad in lots of fics and in the games, so I am very partial to fics that are centered on “Good Friend Larry”. BECAUSE HE IS.

“Meet Me Down The Aisle” by bluemoodblue: I’m a true sucker for wedding fics, and this one takes the wedding cake! I’m also a sucker for wedding fics that go wrong. And this one also takes the wedding cake!

“This Christmas (I’m Gonna Risk It All)” by Samiolioli (Samioli): A really cute Christmas fic taking place during a holiday party! It’s all about Phoenix confronting his feelings for Miles, and I remember it being hilarious.

“Not What I Expected” by motivationisfortheweak: A Valentine fic set in an alternate universe where Miles and Phoenix go to high school together. Short and sweet, but Phoenix is sooo dense.

“Monster Movie Monday” by contritecacite: A breakaway from the norm! A Klavier centered fic about him getting a boyfriend and making amends with one Phoenix Wright.

“There Is Time To Kill” by realizationtime: Oh, oh bbg. You weren’t survive after this fic. “Maybe we were never meant to be older than nine”.

“A Fool For You” by bluemoodblue: ADORABLE!! It’s a Narumitsu one. I loved this one when I read it. It’s so funny and so perfectly them. Read it.

Ok so, there’s a couple that I personally really like but can’t find in my bookmarks. There’s this one where Miles and Phoenix are stuck in a mall during Christmas, it’s a newer one I know that. It’s absolutely adorable and I fully recommend it if you can find it.

There’s also a really cute one that I remember with Miles and Phoenix as kids making each other Valentines cards, and there’s even a very lovely sequel where they’re older and Trucy finds the card in Phoenix’s stuff! It’s not recent, but I read it recently. It’s very adorable.

Another fic I really like is one where Miles is a worker at a prestigious art museum and gets fired. Then he moves to a small town and ends up with Phoenix as a roommate. It’s actually really, REALLY adorable and pretty funny too. It gives me warm fuzzy sunflower vibes.

OK SO there’s this fic that I remember reading a long while ago, and it’s this one where Phoenix and Miles go to a Steel Samurai orchestra concert and make proposing to each other into a competition. It’s pretty hilarious and I fully recommend it if you ever end up finding it.

AND LASTLY (I think) there’s this fic that’s pretty unknown? I think? It’s absolutely CRAZY. I had no idea what was happening when I was first reading it. I really don’t wanna spoil any details in case you find it on your own. But long story short, through mystical Magatama fuckery, Phoenix and Miles end up in their own weird, fucked up worked where they’ve forgotten all their memories and are married. Characters like Trucy, Gumshoe and a lot of the others try to get them out of their own heads and it’s soooo cool and I read it pretty recently but I can not for the life of me find it. It’s really good and super interesting. Has the exact same vibes as “Perfect” by SideBlog (so if you find it, Fic Anon, I full heartedly recommend it)

ALSO IF ANYONE KNOWS THE FICS IM TALKING ABOIT IN THIS SECTION. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DIRECT ME. They’re soooo good.

“Everything That I Have Ever Learned Leads Back To This” by kbots: Oh. Oh this one is… Oh my goodness. SAD. I actually cried while reading this one. Like. Holy shit. Good luck not crying while reading this. It’s amazing and should have more hits.

“All The Better To See You With” by bluemoodblue: OH. Oh. I love this one. We love Trucy hating Kristoph. (Fuck Kristoph Gavin, all my homies hate Kristoph Gavin).

Watching Disney's "Wish"--No idea what to expect but mostly here for Chris Pine. Pray for me.

-Old school storybook opening sequence which is clearly meant to be evocative of Snow White, Pinocchio, etc. But it's very hard to play it straight in a Post-Shrek world.

-Jesus the world's most painfully expositional dialogue.

-Oh god the body language and the timing of the expressions... Disney has only had one (1) Heroine Concept since they popped out Moana and none of them have been as compelling as Moana.

-Rosas has Duloc vibes. Disney really did not consider the post-Shrek implications of this writing and worldbuilding.

-TANGLED REFERENCE.

-Oh god the Seven Dwarf Besties. Like... to what end??? Who is this for??? This is too many characters for one scene??? If they aren't in the title maybe don't dump 7 on your main character???

-Every time I hear that the Queen and King were originally written to be a villain power couple I'm soooo depressed at looking at this queen. I do like this character design.

the day you met him was the day butterflies suddenly erupted inside your stomach. his brown golden hair that smelt like vanilla and coffee stung your nose in a good way, and his charming eyes that you could stare into forever, you wouldn't mind getting lost in it if it meant you could better understand him better, eyes are the windows of the soul after all.

ah damn it, he's too gorgeous. there's no way id ever get his atten- "hey!" you lifted your pen up from your notebook that you were just writing in to a familiar voice. you shifted your gaze to the person infront of you to see gale galleon. "o-oh! uuh.. sorry i was uh.. writing ssssomething.. can i help you..?" you stuttered out, making a fool out of yourself. "sorry.. can i uhh borrow a pen?" he nervously laughed. ahh he looked so cute blushing and avoiding your gaze, you didn't notice it unfortunately since you were also avoiding his gaze. you nodded and gave him the pen you were holding. he turns his back to his table to write something, while he was doing that, you could practically feel the hot blush on your face. it felt like your face was about to erupt like a volcano because of how flushed you were! so cute. you had all these thoughts in your head but before you could realize, he turns back to you and slides a piece of folded piece of paper along with your pen on your desk. he gulpd silently and turns back around.

you tilt your head in confusion and open the folded paper and what you saw was something you never could have expected. there on the lined paper, with messy but charming handwriting said "you're really cool, wanna hang out? -gale :)" and two drawn in boxes that said yes or no. you blinked a second time to really process if this is happening. without a thought you drew in a checklist in the yes box and folded it back together. you tap gale's shoulder and handed him the paper. he turns back to open the table and you swore you heard him do a little victory "yes...!" celebration after opening it. he once again turns back to you and says "soooo...movies? weekend?" "aye aye, captain".

"you always had that stupid eyepatch on everyday at school, people called you a pirate and some of the juniors even called you captain galleon!" months later, you were in your shared house with gale, you sat on the couch with his head on your shoulder. firepit crackling accompanied with the cold night air breeze and that post rain smell, what was it called.. ah yes, petrichor.

"you think my eyepatch was stupid?" he looked up at you and pouted with those big sad puppy eyes, "of course not, you goober. you looked edgy" "damn right i looked edgy" he said proudly then laughing along with you. "i never thought this would happen you know.." you sighed as you looked deep into his alluring eyes, his breathing calmed you... he sat up straight and kissed your forehead before saying "..me neither" and giggling like a child, shortly after he pulled you into a big bear hug where your head layed on his chest and there you fell asleep. he stroked your hair and had his chin rested on top of your head, shushing you to sleep coupled with whispering sweet nothings. just before you fully fell asleep though, you slurred out something while you were half awake, "i love..you gale... i always...will.." he smiles warmly and kisses your head, "i will always love you too, silly." and continued stroking your hair until you drifted off to dreamland.

"Daniel." Vlad looked down at Danny from the doorway of his Amity Park mansion, making note of the suitcase beside the boy.

"Hey. So my parents called you a bunch, and Dad said he left a message so that was as good as you agreeing to this." Danny pointed a thumb to indicate the GAV behind him, his father giving them both a thumbs up as Vlad made eye contact.

"Ah, yes, how could I, as his best friend, turn down a sudden request." Vlad's voice was dry. He'd listened to the messages, and hadn't responded back for a reason. They were going to a convention and didn't want to bring Danny along. Too dangerous or something?

"Yeah, you must have been just soooo busy you forgot to call him back." 

"Your father is a fool." Vlad scoffed. 

"Watch it. Anyway, if we just make it look like all is good, I can just fly back home once they are out of view and they won't know a thing." 

"That isn't a bad plan." Vlad waved to Danny's parents, who then began to speed off. "Though seeing as it's the holiday week, you're welcome to stay and enjoy some real food. I'm having some things catered throughout the week as well." 

Danny raised a brow. "This isn't some weird 'show me true holiday' scheme to make me want to be your son again?" 

"No, if that is the outcome, I wouldn't dislike it. But it is not the plan. Simply, just a lousy time of year to spend alone. Shall we call it Truce early?"

Danny seemed to ponder a bit. "I guess as long as you don't try to force actual holiday cheer at me, warm meals would be a perk." 

"Splendid." Vlad grabbed Danny's suitcase telekinetically and had it follow the both of them inside.

The room Vlad led Danny to was weirdly plain. A normal guest room with a TV and balcony facing away from the city with a rather nice view of the sky. 

"The room faces the sunrise, so I'd suggest closing the curtains if you don't want the sun in your eyes first thing in the morning." Vlad set down the suitcase near the wardrobe. "My room is directly below this one if you need anything."

"You didn't take the top floor with the best view?" Danny walked over to check out the view.

"It was originally, but I grew tired of having to go one more floor up each night."

Danny let out a little snort. "That's super lazy of you when we can both fly."

"I'll admit it's partially to do with the lady I employ growing older as well. I'll introduce you to her when she comes in the next few days." 

"Huh, Okay." Danny didn't expect that from Vlad. 

"I'll leave you to it. You know where the Kitchen is, so help yourself to anything."

Danny watched as Vlad left. It made him suspicious on how non-confrontational Vlad was being, but he settled into the room and started sending messages to his friends.

A few nights into Danny's stay, things continued to go smoothly. Vlad left Danny to his own devices most the time, only interaction around meals or a few times when Danny was bored. 

Most the time Danny spent playing with Maddie the Cat, or checking out Vlad's lab since quote 'I've nothing in the lab you haven't seen before while we fought'. 

Danny wouldn't admit it was nice to be able to move around without having to keep an eye open for ghost traps at all hours of the day.

"Aw, hey there Maddie, whatcha got there?"

The cat merped from where she rolled in her tangle of yarn. Danny took the thread of yarn from her by phasing her out of it, starting to ball it best he could. It was longer still and trailed up the staircase. He followed it to one of the many rooms that Vlad had on the second floor. 

Looking into the room was a given. Danny looked in confusion as he was greeted by a wall of yarn. Shelves contained a well organized gradient of yarn. Vlad sat at a desk with his laptop in front of him, a pair of knitting needles with half a scarf floated next to him. 

The two half ghosts stared at each other, the only sound in the room was the clicking of the needles followed by Maddie jumping onto Vlad's lap. 

Danny's eyes drifted to the striped scarf, that matched the sweater that Danny had assumed Vlad bought, but no. It was the same colors, and not that Danny knew anything about producing sweaters, he's sat through enough of Sam's gripping about matching all the shades of black. 

"Ah, Maddie had this." Danny held up the yarn he collected on his way to the room. 

"I was wondering why it'd gotten so quiet." 

"So, you knit?" 

Vlad sighed and pointed to the other chair in the room. Danny took it and got comfy, yarn still in hand. 

"I do. It started as a means to control something telepathically while distracted. The lady next to me in the hospital back when- Well she would be knitting while doing just about anything but eating to keep her hands from going stiff." 

"So you do it with your mind? Doesn't seem the same." 

"No, but at the time I needed something to help fine tune my control. It was only one of the things I did, mind you." 

"But you kept at it cause you liked it?"

"Indeed." Vlad barely even glanced at his work as he switched colors. 

"What other things did you do?"

"It was before I made my fortune, so small things. Cleaned, dishes, puzzles-those were the worst cause I needed to have a visual most times- sometimes folded clothes. Once I'd even tried to use telekinesis to pick up the floor rather than vacuum."

Danny laughed. "How'd that end up going?"

"Terribly. I just made the floor intangible so that the dirt would go into the apartment below me."

Danny laughed. "That's evil."

"Well, they vacuumed at 6 in the morning, so they deserved it." Vlad followed Danny's gaze to his knitting. "Would you like to try it?"

"Wha-"

"You can even use the yarn that Maddie summoned you here with." 

"I guess it couldn't hurt to try." 

5 minutes later Danny was about to stab someone with the needles. "How do you like this?"

Vlad tsked. "You've hardly even started. I never took you for a quitter." 

"I'm not quitting." Danny bristled. "It's just so- It looks ugly." 

"It's because you're just learning. You're good enough with your powers this should be cake walk."

"You say that, but I just throw things."

"Then this is good practice. Developing fine motor skills has no downsides."

"Fine. I'll finish this damn scarf. It's gunna be for your cat." 

"Ah, nice and small then. She will love it."

Danny growled and put all his focus back into making the needles move.

soooo yeah!!! we like to jump right into action as well but I think it's safe to say our autistic ass habits of giving exposition for everything lead to the specific outcome of starting in the middle of a scene, WITH an explanation of the scene. like we're already in the middle of something going on but also sometimes it's exposition at the same time somehow?? or like right after these first lines. idk maybe that's just me????

the way it's usually less (character does this) and more (character does this BECAUSE ____ // character is doing this and FEELING ____) feels like it's trying to give context, to me. but again idk maybe just me

TIME FOR SEÁN'S READING:

@septiccoffeefreak - "What I'm noticing here is more along the lines of just, how we almost always seem to open with a person. Usually by their actual name(s) too and not just a pronoun. I understand what you mean, Tommy, but I don't personally get that vibe? You could totally be right, of course, I just don't pick up on that. I defenitely notice, though, just how many of these are sentences where the literal first word is a name. the two exceptions to that are the pronoun "they" (which is still a person- or two people actually), and then water.

I guess the dialogue could also be considered an exception, but I don't think it counts since it also directly references us as characters.

and that's not something you necessarily have to do. You could open describing scenery or objects, or with dialogue that DOESN'T have the names of the characters in it- you could open with wind through a blade of grass or a character cursing under their breath or someone's cellphone crashing to the pavement or something. So it's definitely an "us" thing, it's a quirk of our writing style and not just normal writing. I don't know if like, we ALWAYS do this, but I do know that in these ten fics you pulled we do. I wouldn't be surprised if we did it like literally all the time as well, but I'm not going to pretend to know every first line we've ever penned to paper. or...print?? I don't fucking know, here, I'm just analyzing sentences on the internet for a tagging project.

Hey!! There's been a lack of Chenford promo/sneak peaks for this ep?! Thoughts/expectations...

listen...tv being this accessible is so wild. it makes me feel soooo old. like, tv has never been this accessible prior to an episode airing in the history of the format. the idea that we see press photos and releases and 10000 sneak peeks and spoilers is just so...bleh. i'm not into that. it can be fun to follow but idc about anyone's speculation but my own, other people's thoughts/expectations stress me out and i honestly very rarely share my own bc they just get me hate mail ✉️

i miss when the only thing i knew about an episode of upcoming tv was what i read in like, tv guide. i realize this is such an old lady take but as a person who loves the art of tv writing, i just feel like all this shit does the story such a disservice. think about the fact that until like, 10 years ago, honestly a little less, we didn't really see hoards of press photos for every single episode. we didn't see a bunch of sneak peeks so we knew what was to come. sure, there were spoilers, but idk - i yearn for tv to be able to operate in that oblivious space again, i hate knowing what's coming for an episode and forming expectations bc i'd rather just...enjoy television. it's honestly sad to me bc all this shit has changed the way tv works, the way it's written, etc.

anyway all of this is to say: there's been a lack of promo/sneak peeks in general for this ep. that's not abnormal, it just feels weird coming off 2 weeks in a row of a season premiere/100th episode level of hype. the chenford element of it is also not weird to me. they're 2/8 main cast members. other people are going to get the sneak peeks sometimes, just gotta roll with it. if you like the show, it shouldn't matter. ngl, i hate seeing chenford in sneak peeks bc then not all of the content is new for me. i'd so much rather be surprised.

i'm sure there will be some chenford content since there are press photos of them together and we know lucy will wind up riding with celina/tim from spoilers when they were shooting this ep. i'm personally hype not to have to go into this ep assuming i know anything. having all these preconceived notions, imo, is not a healthy relationship with tv so i just try to avoid doing it at all.

tl;dr: i have no expectations of this ep, i'm sure i'll like it bc i like most episodes of this show. i don't think it's weird there's been a smaller amount of promo bc we're coming off two major episodes and i enjoy the rookie without solely caring about chenford.

I'm finally watching Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey...

I've been waiting for the longest time to watch it, and I think it's a good cheesy horror movie. Here's some of my thoughts

Spoilers, obviously:

- I love the sketchy art. IDK what it is, but it's soooo good

- The Winnie the Pooh mask is so cool. Just... it looks so creepy, especially the close ups. The almost permanent smile, the creases and the fucking glowing eyes

- Chris is a fucking wimp, just stood there and screamed as his gf was killed

- Pooh just watching that red head, standing still, before just breaking into a run made me laugh so hard, and I don't know why

- the way Pooh was just standing there when she got up

- Why did Pooh tear her shirt off? Was it just for the titty shot?

- the wood chipper was brought in much earlier than I thought it would

- I was not expecting that stalker creep flashback holy shit

- Piglet peddling for power was weirdly hilarious to me

- Why the whip???

- I think they ate the gf???

Little Updates!

Hahahahaha some new people around, I thought it would be nice to update you guys on my current life status xD

So. For the new people who doesn't already know, I'm collecting a few weird rare chronic illnesses and one of them I still have no idea what it is. Sometimes I'm fine and some other times, things turn upside down and I'm just stone statue Mushu.

The last two months, I started some meds that made my life so much worse. I stopped them about a week ago, but still having collaterals - basically, it's like I had an allergic reaction for two months coupled with the collaterals of the meds, so I'm feeling pretty much horrible hahaha

From what I've read, it takes around a month for the body to get rid of it. So, I'll probably have some ups and downs for the next month or so.

I'm also needing to do another medical exam that is extremely expensive and my health insurance denied to cover the exam costs, basically because they feel like my symptoms aren't bad enough to justify this exam. I'll have to be bleeding and unable to get up from bed for them to approve it (seriously, I'm not exagerating).

Once I can only count on my mom to talk about these things (my dad and my sister have no emotional strength to tank all these issues), we've been talking about what to do, because there's no way we can afford this exam - and, if it's positive, then I'll have to go on a surgery, which is even more expensive and we certainly can't afford that.

Soooo I shut down for a while. I have barely no energy and those things took a toll on me - the time I spent awake, I just wanted to get my mind off things.

I'm starting to get things back on track, though. I'm back on my art mentoring, I'm writing again - hopefully, I'll be able to update Nemesis in no time - and I started a little project I'll be posting about an orginal story of mine at least once a week. I'll detail more in another post, 'cause I didn't expect this one to be so long HAHAHA

Anyways. I live. I'll get to answering all questions and going through my asks, thanks so much for having patience with me, my beloved creatures <3

I might get a few raised eyebrows over this but here goes...

TL;DR: Thanks to that post, I'm accepting that I'm not cut out for producing consistent forms of media, internalized ableism might be why, I'm not cancelling Elegy, but Imma just do whatever I want.

Full thing with explanations below, but beware, Imma get personal for a bit, and my experiences with ableism will be mentioned, which...I never really talk about outside of my innermost circles:

In the last several years, I always thought my inability to make comics or games or literally any other form of consistent medias was due to the fact that I "lacked discipline". That was reinforced by the fact that the artists I follow, a couple of my friends, and my fiancee, are all webcomic artists that handle/handled things at a moderately consistent pace. This was also reinforced by shit I was told when I was younger IRL, when my undiscovered neurodivergency was excused by shit like "you're lazy" or "you lack discipline" and other similar statements.

In the last several years, I've tried time and time again to make some consistent medium in which my stories can be told, namely comics and games. I wanted to believe that I was doing it for the love of my stories, but in truth, I was doing it to "improve my discipline", which inevitably, ended in failure time and time and time again, and with each failure, hatred for myself increased, and in the last couple of years....it began to extend to my confidence and my stories. It all ended in one thought to everything: There's something wrong with me.

Recently, I felt like I experienced an artist's existential crisis, thanks to the one-two punch of burnout from doing Elegy Chapter 1 and being slapped with arthritis-related issues: why do I create, am I a good artist, why do I love these stories, is there really a right way to tell a story, do I ACTUALLY love the stories I make?

Well obviously, yes, I do love the stories and worlds I create, but for whatever reason, I genuinely cannot get myself to do anything beyond disjointed art pieces of stuff that would be classified as "spoilers". My followers want something more than that, I thought. They want stories.

But then that post came across my dash, and I felt like I was hit with an epiphany.

For one, I was projecting onto the followers I do have. I know those that truly stick around through my inconsistencies after all these years will love the stuff I create no matter the form or medium, and no matter how out of context it is. I should believe that rather than the imaginary expectations that have been placed on me for years.

Two, it was never about a lack of discipline....I was actively working against my neurodivergent brain, AKA how I function entirely. Of course it wouldn't work! It's like asking a mircowave to be a washing machine! Realizing that lifted a huge weight off my shoulders as both an artist and a person.

Three, I create because I love to. That's it, that's all the reason is! I love the art of creating worlds and weaving stories and writing fun and complex characters, and I love seeing how they all interact and change and influence off each other! The world influences the characters, the character influences the story, the story influences the world.

Soooo, why not draw whatever I want, do whatever I want, and be whatever I want? Out of context sketches and arts and insane ramblings is just as valid as a medium right?

While I do have people who work on webcomics, I also know and follow people who do this exact thing: draw things relating to their story, attach a blurb to said pictures about their worlds and characters in various forms of medium, and nothing more.

So I'm going to try that. Forget the manga....well okay, I might still do smaller comics for funsies, but forget "proper" mediums, Imma do whatever I want, and I know people will love it, no matter the numbers! Gives me a LOT more room to experiment with different styles and mediums and the like!

If you've managed to read this far, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I do have a terrible relationship with social media and how the internet is nowadays, but I do cherish the followers that have stuck around this far. I wanna do things for y'all, but above all, do things for me.

Alright. So as you can see from the explosion of my blog, I'm back. So I did in fact see the new episode of Helluva boss and the music video and I'm not gonna talk about them. Why? Because they both encase the same fucking issues as EVERYTHING else.

What I am gonna talk about however is the basics of what I personally enjoy about Helluva Boss, why I have that opinion, AND what I don't like, and why I have that opinion as well.

SO

What I do like:

- I enjoy, unlike some others, the colors. I do love saturated colors. I think it is beautiful and one reason I'm so disappointed in the show, because I can't enjoy it with everything else. I like this because it reminded nds me of the Legend of Spyro the first two games anyway. I love those games because the scenery was gorgeous to look at. The gameplay was a bitch so I'm at least happy I had nice stuff to look at while I was PISSED.

- I do enjoy the lack of censorship and honestly I wish it had more. Not gonna lie before the show pooped it's pants in the race, I was expecting nudity or sex scenes? I'm from the furry community soooo. I was also expecting real adult topics but we'll get to that. I was expecting that because, nudity and sex is part of life. And sex actually plays a huge role in personal personality traits in a character imo.

- I enjoy the voice actors and their talents. It's hard to find, or it used to be hard to find good voice actors in indie animation. I'm not big on celebrity promotion because I think personally indie should be pulling some fresh talent to its feet and helping those who really want to but can't get in the "professional Hollywood scene"

- I enjoy the animation cause holy crap, do these animators have talent. Some of the designs and effects they have to do, like in the music video, are beautiful.

What I don't like

- the designs. Character designs are supposed to say something about a character, convey them as people, or tell you something about the environment. Now I understand everyone has an art style but bodies and faces vary even in style, and especially in a fantasy world. Same goes for clothing and accessories, UNLESS the fashion for a certain time calls for similarities. All of the characters in Helluva Boss have the same features AND they are over-cluttered with un necessary add one. Why I don't like that- because characters SHOULD be varied for at least 1 reason: 1 because looks define a character on the outside, maybe the inside too but good writing can sell a narrative that is composed of (what I look like on the outside and who I truly am on the inside).

- the swearing. Good god. I swear LIKE A TRUCKER. I DONT CARE ABOUT PROFANITY OR SEX JOKES. However, in a piece of media, yet again, a character's dialogue, body language, and how they speak tells you something about the character and or their environment. For Example from Lackadaisy pilot: all of the characters. ALL OF THEM except for one, looks bad sounds like they belong there. The character who doesn't seem like they fit in? ROCKY! BUT THATS GOOD! Because from what I've seen, he's a black sheep. He seems like hes not supposed to fit in. That seems to be his whole struggle. Now For example from Helluva Boss: Blitzo swearing is good. He's a profane dickhead. It fits him. However Moxie? Moxie is portrayed to be innocent and kinda soft. He should stay that way to foil Blitzos character. Striker swearing? Fine but watch what he says. Country folk swear differently than City folk. Stolas swearing? The aristocratic rich try to swear different than the poor because they have a level of decorum to follow amongst one another. They see themselves as better than you so they try and act like it. They try to hide their profane ways. If youre gonna have swearing and sex jokes make sure whatever swear or joke is coming out of someone's mouth fits their personality. If it's out of character, then have that character have a reaction. Like a Catholic who says God damn for the first time in a heated argument.

- the callous attitude toward serious problems. I'll list a few big ones. 1: sexual assault. 2: alcoholism. 3: Classism. 4: Incest?. I don't like the joking manner of sexual assault, the callous disregard for a plot based on coerced rape, the jokes on alcoholism, or the jokes and callous disregard for how the show portrays Classism. why? 1: I was a sexual assault victim along with MANY of my friends. 2: my dad just struggled with alcoholism and died of liver failure and it is much more graphic and heart breaking than people understand. Nothing will make you feel more defeated than battling with an alcoholic, still loving them, then watching them die while your whole family suffers. 3: I'm a poor person who struggles against Classism. I'm not a minority but from what I see other minorities suffer and say about this, and what I know about the history of racism in my country, this needs to be addressed especially when adding Classism and coerced rape into the mix. 4: it seems like there are A LOT of incest implications in the second season. Obvious reasons to not like it. Now it it was played on well, and ADRESSED narratively?

- the behind the scenes allegations. Obvious reasons why I don't like that, but I have now way to know what true and what isn't. However, you can tell A LOT about a creator by what they write and more importantly HOW they write it.

And one more note: I wouldn't care about this shows flaws at all if it wasn't trying to take itself seriously and ouch us into liking these irredeemable characters. If it WAS just a raunchy, shock humor comedy like say Robot Chicken? Then weeeeeee have fun. Robot Chicken IS. NASTY. and I love it! But it doesn't have a serious plot. Even when Family Guy tries to do serious plots, the tone still remains where it is when it needs to. Brian was a dickhead but it was genuinely sad the way they portrayed his death. And the show was good in it's first seasons imo. In my OPINION. I used to like the show but...it ran too long. And that's Helluva Bosses problem. It's running too long. It was supposed to be a short comedy focused on IMP. AND then they tried to make it a plot to run for a while. If done well, great, it could've been great. But it is clear the writers DO NOT have the life experience and or the reflection and maturity to write these seriously heavy topics. Helluva Boss comes off as a fetish comic, the ones I'm not unused to seeing in the furry community. Don't get me wrong, some comics are actually pretty good buuuuut it's obviously porn so the story gets lost alot lol. This show shouldn't feel like an E621/ Yaoi comic/hentai. But it does...

SO yeah. That's my opinion on the whole show so far and honestly I'm not sure if gonna even watch it anymore. We shall see.
