ok so i stumbled on [ this post ], which talks abt the enneagram as sort of a...numerological play on tarot! w rosie being, herself, a type 7, this applies to her, big time!! i also have been looking into the tarot of lfr a bit myself (v new to tarot but find it really interesting for character work!) -- partially bc of a planned graphic that lbr will probs never actually get done! laksdjfklsjdf -- and id def associated her a lot w the seven of cups, too, bc of the imagination kinda thing, but the pentacle suit, in general, w house malconaire (bc of the earth associations to both) and...anyway im getting carried away but yeah reading this i was like !!!!! bc character arc reasons and im kinda like 'does this work out for all the characters' and kdsljafsldkjfjdf

anyway...no reason at all... ;DDDD what're your malconaires' various enneagrams? and/or do you have any thoughts on what tarot card(s) might represent them/their journey (regardless of whether the numbers match up!)? also non-malconaire characters!!!! i love character analysis i wanna hear it all (and ~~~~maybe potentially someday possibly do a graphic which may never ever appear i don't wanna get any expectations raised...that one i did of the malconaires for christmas was smth id been meaning to do for atp literally over a year soooo yeahhhh l;akjsfkljsdjf)

anyway, so below is pure speculation ok but like!!!!! i think this might kinda be a thing???

another example: i know lizzy said that @forgottenbrigit is an enneagram 8, and numerologically, 8 lines up w the card of movement and action and, in that way change, which is esp interesting bc lizzy has also mentioned that brigit really hates change, but also she's got the literal fire of the gods (seeress!) going and in that sense does have the power to help inact change, etc.

additional example: i also know that kate's said that @forgottenarias is a type 2, and that's the number in tarot numerology that deals w balance but also opposites, opposing ideas, harmony, duality, dichotomy, etc!! and she's literally a captive and a powerhouse; a princess and a bastard, all at once, not to even get into the romeo and juliet thing she and arthur (who is also a two!) are giving into like!!

OK, OK, I vibe with this. How about we pull something from the chronicle playlist? Specifically, from the start of our third story.

There's a moment, you see, where the two of them were tested to destruction and we got to play, and share, and see, the way they really are.

I say we because @newt-n-abbey was playing Sorcha at the time, as an irregular PC/associate ST kind of deal. I'd needed to shake things up and fill a couple of sessions in an earlier story, and I know my wife </borat> would play the goblin to the hilt.

Anyway. It's the first session of story three. After rising and rising for about a year of real time, the Dunsirn have been screwed over. The City of Glasgow Bank, in private hands (i.e. theirs) since the 1878 crash, was "robbed" by paramilitaries and, in the subsequent "firefight" with armed police, destroyed. (This, of course, was the cover story, but - doesn't matter, not right now.)

During the chaotic three-way firefight, Alistair caught five rounds rapid to the chest, and his Impaired ass had to be dragged to the postern escape route. In the old GPO tunnels under the city, Sorcha fed him her blood for the very first time, after a year of chugging the Dad Juice so she could pass for a real Hecata. Sorcha was the one who led them across the city, racing the sunrise over the substructure of the Caledonia Bridge, to their bolthole haven in the Gorbals.

This brings us to our songs.

For Alistair, this was the moment he knew he had to change sides. The PC coterie finally had the upper hand on him, and could talk him into becoming a Baron. The moment he admitted that - the moment he couldn't be the éminence grise any more - would come later. This was the moment when he accepted it - when he was propped up in the shower, and his daughter was in there fully clothed and crying and pulling bullets out of him.

For Sorcha, this was the start of her big breakdown. Overdose, Embrace, being a thinblood, being blood bound, none of that had slowed her down in the slightest (she hadn't let it slow her down), but now?

Alistair could bleed.

He could be hurt, and he could bleed, and he could have died.

I've spoken before about how Sorcha and Alistair dance along the edge of the Giovanni incest trope. They haven't ever (although Sorcha says she would). They won't ever (because Alistair wouldn't). But they were. As long as they're both alive and in the same domain, they are locked into an emotional codependence that runs deeper than blood.

In the next session, Alistair sent Sorcha home to Venice, for her own protection. She cried and skirled and spat until he looked in her eyes and told her to go. She shut down, and she went quietly, all the way to the airport, when she hopped a plane to Venice LA instead because he left a loophole.

He doesn't have Compel. He doesn't need Compel. All he had to do was tell her the truth.

I never wanted this. I would rather have died. But on my last night alive, your mother got past me, and then there was you. There you were, and my whole rotten rancid bloodsoaked life was worth it, because it ended with you.

I knew I had to keep you safe, even if it broke my heart. I lied for years and years about not wanting you. I couldn't come for you: they'd have noticed. You had to be sent to me. It had to look like a punishment. And then you were here, and I had never wanted anything more in all my days.

And because of who Sorcha is as a person, and who he is by profession, she had that song on repeat for the entire flight, all the way to the West Coast.

musings on three dimensional characters and the movie Willow

here the dimensions are not "has many traits" or "whole complex history", it's just SHOW three different feelings for them at the same time, and let the balance between them shift over time

example A: Madmartigan

We meet up with him again and he's dressed as a woman to avoid being caught by someone's husband, he picks up our special baby Elora to make the disguise more convincing, kicking our hero to the side in the process. - Feeling number 1.) self preservation. Madmartigan doesn't want to get in trouble, and will use and hurt people to keep himself safe.

But then the bad evil soldiers come to inspect all the babies and Madmartigan won't let them near Elora, even though pushing them away immediately gets him in trouble and puts him at sword point. - Feeling number 2.) care. Madmartigan WILL put himself at risk to protect a baby, even one he barely knows and was only using as a prop a moment ago.

Finally, when one of the soldiers takes off her helm revealing a beautiful and very angry woman, Madmartigan clearly swoons for a second, even breaking cover with a whispered and breathless "you're- beautiful" - Feeling number 3.) hopeless romantic. Even with his life and the life of a baby on the line, Madmartigan can't help but fall in love at first sight AND show it.

All these parts of him guide his actions through the movie, and the growth he has comes in two places- when he swears himself to serving Willow (putting his own neck on the line in this quest) and when he let's Sorcha escape so he can stay with Willow, despite desperately not wanting to leave her. He never stops caring about his own safety or quits being a romantic, they just stop being the parts of him that guide his ACTIONS. The vibes are still there. In his realism about breaking into Bavmorda's castle and him happily being pulled into a kiss by Sorcha.

Willow is the same!

We see that he doesn't want to go on this quest, we see his love for his family- his kids and wife- and how much he doesn't want to leave them, how much he wants to go home to them.

At the same time we see this, we see him worrying about and wanting to be there for Elora, a strange baby his family was ready to adopt before destiny came knocking. He's sent on the quest with her only because he admits he does love her.

And at the same time as all THAT we ALSO see how convinced he is that he CAN'T protect Elora, he's NOT the right person to help her. A would be sorcerer who's failure of a disappearing pig trick got him laughed at by his home town and wasn't picked for magic training. A man who is short even for a Nelwyn. He's not a great warrior, he's not skilled in magic, and he doesn't understand why Elora wants HIM to be her guardian.

Throughout the film these three sides of Willow are what we see.

Fin Raziel tries teaching him magic but he's not confident and keeps saying he's not ready and his spells all fail. At no point is he having fun with this quest or being casual about it like Madmartigan and the Brownies are- he wants to be HOME. Despite all that, he won't stop until Elora is somewhere safe. He just spends the whole movie thinking it has to be someone else who saves her and protects her, wanting to help her, but believing he can't.

Until she's taken from him.

His first success at magic happens when Elora is in danger and there is NO ONE LEFT to help her, except him. All his big strong warrior friends have been turned into pigs, he has to turn Fin Raziel human again or else there's no hope of getting past Bavmorda's soldiers to save Elora and there IS NO TIME. It's almost character growth, when Willow does his first two spells properly, but not quite- because he only believed in himself when there was no other option.

His real moment happens on the stairs.

First he's given agency, Raziel the powerful sorceress tells him he doesn't have to go inside or face Bavmorda. They have Bavmorda's soldier daughter here to be the warrior. Willow can stay on the stairs until the battle is over.

And at first, he does. The parts of him that doesn't want to be here and doesn't think he's enough to help anyway guide his actions, but so does care for Elora, which brought him here and keeps him on the stairs watching worriedly as the fight starts. He watches the warrior fight through the guards and get taken out by magic. He watches Raziel and Bavmorda get so busy with their fist fight they don't pay attention to anything else.

THIS, is when Willow's character growth starts. He doesn't wait until everyone else is out of the fight. He sees a chance to help Elora, even while someone more powerful and skilled is around to fight for her, and he rushes in. He ACTS.

He's already hurrying Elora to safety when Raziel falls and he's left to face off with Bavmorda alone.

So that was one part of his feelings of not being enough that he just pushed past and stopped letting control him- he physically charged in. Being small helped him keep from being spotted. He fought off a demonic brazier with just a stick and some resourcefulness. Being a short Nelwyn is not what's keeping him from being able to protect the child he loves, and clearly he knows that now.

But what about his magic? He tries the only magic he knows he can do without help, the acorns from his home village, which turn anything they're thrown at to stone. It fails. His magic fails.

Elora is about to die...

Finally, here, is when Willow has faith in himself. Specifically in his own old disappearing pig trick.

He trusts that his stage magic will be enough to trick the most powerful sorceress around and save Elora from her and he is RIGHT. He, Willow, using only the skills he had at the very start of this journey, is capable of protecting Elora.

He was always the one who could save her and keep her safe. Now he knows it. So he does it.

The feeling of not being enough is flipped on it's head and confidence is what drives Willow's actions going forward. His other feelings don't disappear- he wants to go home to his family so he does, but only once Elora is safe, and now he comes home having made himself into the sorcerer he used to think only someone else could turn him into.

I know I've been playing it kind of straight with the fic and the tech/magic in it but I'm very very tempted to be goofy with it and have Sorcha trying to use the Knife of Evil to try and wrest control of Proletius away from Zargothrax and have it be giving her mental error messages like "ACTION FORBIDDEN: UNAUTHORIZED USER. PLEASE ENTER ADMIN PASSWORD TO ADD NEW USER" and she's like WTF?? Like it really is just a contemporary/near future (to us) piece of technology and she's a fantasy princess with no frame of reference.

Maybe it's too goofy and would rob the whole thing of its drama but it fits the canon and vibe of the actual band and its music pretty well so I'm on the fence. 😅

so i have a tarot deck. some deck i got when i was in late highschool or maybe early college? from fucking barnes and noble lmfao

but this deck has always been pretty??? accurate for me???

with the 'personality' of like a really nice, supportive, encouraging grandma. and like--i'm no professional or anything and all i go by most of the time is the booklet it came with (ive read through the meanings it gives in whole and the only vibe i got from that was like mildly helpful but most factual?), but always a relevant pull???

anyway, this morning im bored and sitting and thinking about work. i pick up the little deck and ask 'will mitch fix the scheduling issues'? i ask while shufflin and specify im going to go by the first card on top because i feel like that's more polite when you're asking a card deck to summarize an answer for you.

nope! I was gonna be named gráinne after my great gran but then my parents saw 'sorcha' and liked that

2. When was the last time you cried?

I've been crying all week because of allergies, maybe? but like proper crying maybe 2 weeks ago? I have no concept of time but yeah Uni is super stressful so i've had a few stress cries recently

3. Do you have kids?

nope, and tbh the chance of me getting pregnant are super low so that'll probably stay a no

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

yes, so many. Hurling/Camogie (you should check this out its so cool, its a 3000 year old sport and played at an insane speed, the top level is still amateur), one singular day of Gaelic football (i was beyond bad, turns out i needed glasses lmao), swimming, rounders, and finally the loml Archery. I needed to keep busy as a child 😅😅

5. Do you use sarcasm?

6. What is the first thing you notice about people?

their facial expression, trying to see how they're feeling, where is their attention at (lowkey this is a trauma thing)

Happy endings by a mile, I'll cry but they'll be happy tears

I'm good with my hands? does that count, I can pick up a like hands on craft thing really quickly. No party tricks though

Embroidery! I love it and am very annoyed that I don't have the time for it right now with all that's going on with uni :( I have a lance triptych that i need to finish and hopefully i'll get that started after august.

I've also gotten back into reading, fiction that is, I have spent an inordinate amount of time reading scholarly stuff, so if anyone has recommendations please share, Lance nation bookclub let's go

YES! my sweet baby boy Bobby. I say baby he turned 13 in February so he's getting up there, he's a beagle and a cuddle monster. I love him to bits, he follows me everywhere, sits on my feet to be as close as possible and perfected the puppy dog eyes a long time ago (insert pictures here when i get to my phone)

easily History, I went on a did it college and am currently doing a masters in museum studies so you will not be getting me away from the old stuff. We had an amazing history teacher in secondary school, @f1-disaster-bi can attest to that and she was super encouraging and really nurtured the love of history I had so yeah, making it my job

15. Dream job?

yeah so like i said above i'm doing museum studies at the minute so the dream is the work in a museum. I'd love to work in the education side of museums, sort of a pay it forward vibe with the love of history, outreach programmes and museum events that kind of thing.

Please know that this is something Sorcha would absolutely do - the Bloody Hearts have a killed a bloke, and normally Lorcan digs the graves but he hurt his arm in the brawl that happened earlier, so he can’t. Padraic could easily dig the grave, but he loathes getting dirty.

This next one is essentially for my headcanon/au that Maisie stays with the Haypottens after the book ends. They already pseudo adopted Sorcha and Maisie has nowhere else to go; they can have another daughter!! I just find a lot of comfort in the idea of them all being a found family and picturing Maisie growing up with them and being sisters with Sorcha. This is my delusion I use to cope with all of the tragedies and I will exist in denial forever

Finally, my last one (so far. many more await in my grand mind palace) is this impromptu Jessamy/Reever playlist. My beloveds. They make me so unbelievably sad when I think about them too deeply

⌜robert pattinson, twenty-four, cis man, he/him / till i collapse by eminem + survivor’s guilt, always studying and looking for new spells for dueling, constant state of readiness/ preparedness ( never wants to be caught off guard and lose a friend again) ⌟ hey, have you met CEDRIC DIGGORY yet? the PUREBLOOD is a SIXTH YEAR at hogwarts and are a HUFFLEPUFF makes sense given they tend to be a bit HONORABLE and BROODING. it seems the death of the boy who lived has placed them on the LIGHT side of the looming war. let’s just hope they make it out alive.

style: skinny jeans and converse are the staples to every outfit. v-neck shirts with a leather jacket on cold nights. on cooler days a hoodie can replace the jacket.

amos diggory was always in the background and never in the forefront. as a student we nothing to write home about and wasn't part of any teams or organizations. when he met his wife it was love at first sight. they settled down immediately and year later cedric was born. during the first wizarding war his wife wanted be on the frontlines but amos insisted on keeping a low profile. she ran off to help during the final days of the war and was killed. cedric is all he has left in this world. his heart grew each day seeing cedric being the person he always wished to be. popular, smart, athletic, prefect, seeker, and in several clubs. his heart almost stopped the day of the third event. for a moment he thought it was cedric lying there on the ground lifeless and cold. his last season found him in portree, where he ultimately settled after connecting with sorcha. it wasn't love but it made sense. it was time to marry, she wanted children, and kelly was desperate to carve a different legacy.

cedric being an only child he surprisingly made friends really quickly. he was always the life of the party, even though he preferred to keep a low profile. his dad was always bragging and carrying on about his accomplishments, to the point that cedric was embarrassed by them. being a seeker for hufflepuff brought him joy and being a prefect was more of a thing to do. cedric is always in the middle of the action but wishes to go back to the good ole days of when he was little and could be alone. oh well, always better to have too many friends than not enough. that is until the day of the third event. that day changed cedric forever. no more going out, no more quidditch, he even gave up being a prefect. from that day on he cared about one thing and one thing only. making sure to be strong enough to ensure that he could save the life of the people around him.

these days you can find cedric either in the library studying or out somewhere working on a new spell. cedric doesn't sleep much these days. those events just replaying in his head over and over again. what if he was able to defeat krum sooner. harry wouldn't had gotten a head start to the cup. what if he acted quicker and the vines didn't get him. would he had noticed something wrong with the cup, after all harry was younger and way more inexperienced than him.

being withdrawn has it's obvious drawbacks. his friends have moved on, no more admiration from the younger students, even his dad has stopped talking about him so much. his dad almost speaks as if cedric died that day. it doesn't matter to cedric, from here on out it is about getting stronger. he doesn't exactly know what happened out there but he knows what he felt. a dark magic something pulling him away from the cup while pushing harry to it. he isn't sure what is out there but he will be ready next time.

when cedric is out amongst his peers it is in more of a background role. no more being the life of the party. now he sits there and chats as people come up to him but he is more or less gauging whether or not they sense something isn't right in the wizarding world as well. as if the balance has been thrown off.

he is always finding someone new to duel. figuring he can either help improve their skills or learn something new from them. he is able to use his natural charm that made him so popular to make it seem more like a joke than anything. with each new skill or spell he learns he writes it down in his notebook and who he learned it from.

the days of him being a leader are over. he feels like he spent too much time at the front that he missed easy lessons that could've served him in the tournament. the little time he spends socializing these days is a going through the motions more than anything. the people he feels closest to these days are the regulars at the library. just passing greetings and goodbyes no real talking but they are the ones he spends most of his time with.

his mission this year is to get into the restricted section as much as possible. finding all new kinds of spells to add to his arsenal. always trying to find a professor to grant him access but not making it so obvious that he is wanting to be there for anything other than academic purposes is the main goal. it isn't too hard as teachers like everyone else liked cedric and after last year even sympathize with him. though, throughout t the year cedric knows it will be harder and harder to get access he soaks up every minute he can in there.

overall cedric is a shell of his former self. he tries to keep up appearances as his dad even talked about him not returning if he didn't get back to the old cedric. so cedric does what he has to in order to play the part but he would much rather be in the forbidden forest practicing a new spell than in the court yard talking about one of his heroic feats in a quidditch match from long ago.
