Sources for Somerton's Plagiarism from Hbomberguy's Video (as much as I could get)
I went back through Harry's video, focused entirely on the sources James Somerton pulled from in the hopes of creating as much of a comprehensive list as I could--though my Google-Fu is not very strong. I did however find something I thought was forever lost and that made me very happy--specifically the magazine Midlands Zone containing the column by Steven Spinks that Harry poignantly used as an illustration of gay erasure... while Somerton uses it to sound like HE is waxing remorseful about the very subject.
This is not a complete list, I'm sure. For one thing, I was only able to attempt to pull sources that Harry himself mentioned in the video. Surely there's so very much more out there. I expect there to be a great deal more internet archeology to unearth just how much writing and culture Somerton has stolen like he's the British Museum of Natural History but for gay people.
- - - - -
Harry's list of mentioned youtubers:
Alexander Avila - https://www.youtube.com/@alexander_avila Matt Baume - https://www.youtube.com/@MattBaume Khadija Mbowe - https://www.youtube.com/@KhadijaMbowe Lady Emily - https://www.youtube.com/@LadyEmilyPresents Shanspeare - https://www.youtube.com/@Shanspeare RickiHirsch - https://www.youtube.com/@RickiHirsch VerilyBitchie - https://www.youtube.com/@verilybitchie
Harry created a convenient playlist of videos by these and other people he wants to bring to everyone's attention.
Please give them your support.

Midlands Zone Magazine - Column by Steven Spinks
After a great deal of searching, I found an archive of the "Midlands Zone" magazine, where you can read through past issues dating all the way back to February 2014. I have also found the issue from which Somerton took Spinks' poignant discussion of gay erasure: Overall archive Specific Issue - Pages 16-17
It will not allow you to download it, but you can read it exactly as it appeared in print form.

Secondly not including anything that might be visible enough to not require amplifying their voice (I cannot speak for all of those I have found links to, but journalism is frequently a thankless job).
Thirdly any source that is of a nature that is antithetical to the very existence of the queer community, such as the right-leaning source that didn't make it into Somerton's video, but Harry was able to identify as a source he had considered using.

Some things you need to know about Kazuma Kaneko design
Throughout the years, I've frequently encountered people asking: 'Why do some of Kaneko demon designs differ from their original mythological depictions? Is he unaware of the authentic imagery? Or did he reference incorrect sources?'
There are multifaceted reasons, which typically include the following:
Game narrative requirements This is usually the main factor. For instance, in "Persona 1&2, all the demons were designed as a set of stage costumes with masks, reminiscent of ancient Greek dramas. In the DDSat series, all the demons are required to appear as carnivorous beasts without eyes.
Avoiding Visual Repetition‌ Some designs intentionally adopt less iconic representations to prevent stylistic overlap. For example, his depiction of Michael drew inspiration from a statue in Coventry Cathedral to distinguish it from the traditional imagery of the other three archangels.
Creative reinterpretation He often reinterprets mythological figures through his imagination and endows them with brand-new images. For instance, his robotic depiction of Metatron stems from the figure’s origin as the human prophet Enoch – the transformation from human → cyborg symbolizes Enoch’s ascension into an angelic being. While such designs may deviate from classical depictions, his conceptual explanations often reveal their underlying logic.
Pre-internet research limitations. he largely worked without online resources during his prime creative period, making occasional inaccuracies in references inevitable.(Just think about it. We didn't have wiki until 2003, and by then it was already the era of SMT3.)
Mystical inspiration. At times, he follows intuitive, almost revelatory impulses to create designs he cannot fully rationalize. For example, his insistence that Bellis should be cyan and Eligor red defies conventional logic or color symbolism.
To illustrate these points, I will elaborate with specific examples:
Cerberus。Yes, the Cerberus from Kaneko doesn't look like it was in Greek mythology. It usually has only one head. It doesn't even look like a dog but more like a lion. Why? Doesn't Kaneko know that Cerberus is a three-headed dog?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first Cerberus, which originated from the Digital Devil Story: megami tensei (1986) novel and the OVA animation (1987) adapted from the novel. Design by Hiroyuki Kitazume
here is a requirement for its appearance proposed by the story: Cerberus must be massive enough because it needs to carry the male and female protagonists as they leap through the mountains. As a righteous character, it shouldn’t be too ugly. Thus, as you can see, to meet these conditions, the designer didn’t depict it as a hound but instead rendered it as a lion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second Cerberus comes from the first Atlus megami tensei game(1987).You can see that its appearance follows the design in the OVA animation, just changing it to white,a white lion.
Tumblr media
The third Cerberus comes from the second Atlus megami tensei game(1990) Design by Kazuma Kaneko.
This is his first Cerberu art from SMT1(1992).Now you won’t question why it doesn’t resemble the imagery of Greek mythology – since the Atlus game has inherited megami tensei’s name and design. This "white lion Cerber" has become a traditional hallmark of megami tensei.
Tumblr media
The fourth Cerberu comes from Soul Hacker(1997) This time Kaneko wants to make some changes. Cerberu has three heads. However, Kaneko still retained the tradition of the white lion and did not turn it into a hunting dog. So this time Cerberu is a white lion with three heads. You can still see the influence from the OVA animation.
Tumblr media
The fifth Cerberos comes from reamek SMT1 (2001) It is basically a redrawing of the 1992 version, more detailed and more like a big white lion. The 3D models in today's Atlus games are all based on this art piece as a reference standard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sixth Cerberus originates from DIGITAL DEVIL SAGA (2004). DIGITAL DEVIL SAGA is not a member of the SMT series, so this time there was no need for Kaneko to keep Cerberus looking like a white lion. However, this version's design purpose isn't to perfectly recreate the Cerberus from Greek mythology either.Similar to the White Lion from the OVA, this design also serves for game narrative requirements.
In DIGITAL DEVIL SAGA, the setting revolves around a digital world, So Kaneko used reflected in the design through geometric lines, sharp angles, and glowing circuit patterns to emphasize this is a "digital Cerberus" and, In this story, It isn't a real Cerberus, but an "Asura"—Humans infected by the virus turned into demons, driven solely by predatory instincts. so,none of Asura have eyes (the red parts resembling eyes are actually the upper jaws of its mouths) So, this version is actually digital Cerberus, not Cerberus from Greek mythology
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The seventh Cyperus, from Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter (2025)
As you can see, this time, its appearance is completely in line with the description in Greek mythology. It doesn't look like a lion. It has three heads. Its abdomen and tail look like a snake.
Because this game has nothing to do with the SMT series, it doesn't put forward any requirements in terms of game narrative either. So this time, Kaneko only needed to draw a Greek mythological version of Cerberus.
Tumblr media
I believe after reviewing the seven design versions above, you now understand:
Kaneko had a clear understanding of Cerberus' depiction in mythology. Had he wanted to, he could have faithfully reproduced the exact Cerberus from Greek mythology. The reason his SMT Cerberus differs from classical representations is because the demand from the game.
This isn't an isolated case limited to Cerberus. I plan to continue introducing more such examples in the future.Thank you for watching.

Something was wrong with this region. Something about space itself felt unaccountably wrong—and this trouble Soundwave. Soundwave was an intelligence officer. He reveled in the streams of data—transmissions, radiations, sounds, sights—that flowed around him. Soundwave trafficked in information, not feelings. So his uneasiness about this region bothered him. He walked down the passageway toward the bridge of the Nemesis, the Decepticon spacecraft he commanded. Lord Megatron had assigned him a task—assigned it to Soundwave over Megatron's favored lieutenants such as the sociopath Shockwave and the impetuous upstart Starscream. It was a point of pride for Soundwave—this was his mission and his responsibility to make sense of the findings.
Soundwave hated this creature. Hated the way its cells divided and apoptosized, hated the bacteria that lived in it, hated the sound of the liquids churning through its body, hated the hair that sprouted from its frail outer coating, hated the syntax that was wired into the crude synapses that crackled in its head, hated the sounds that came out of it. He hated this particular creature more than the rest of the species, but only slightly. Gould's usefulness outweighed Soundwave's contempt. […]

2010 Transformers: Exodus (error: despite his exclusion from this list, Frenzy does exist in this book)
Soundwave was a different matter. Spymaster extraordinaire, controller of a horde of Minicons so small that Megatron could crush several of them with a footstep, Soundwave was the only gladiator Megatron had ever fought who had a chance of beating him—they had met in a match to first wound rather than death; otherwise only one of them would still exist. He was nearly as single-minded as Megatron, nearly as dedicated. He possessed a suite of abilities that Megatron very nearly envied, with his multiple transformations and the triple Minicons that he contained within his proto-form and could eject into combat at any moment. These were Rumble, Ravage, and Laserbeak.
Crystal City had stood for teracycles, a monument to the union of Cybertronian ingenuity and aesthetics. It shimmered and glowed as the various materials of its composition caught different spectra of light, creating a prismatic show that was visible for dozens of hics in any direction. During certain atmospheric conditions, even the citizens of Iacon could see it shimmering like a mirage just over the horizon. It was a monument both to achievement and to the aristocracy of Cybertron that demanded beauty along with function. Scientific research went hand-in-hand with artistic innovation here. Soundwave hated the place. To him it reeked of self-indulgence,
2014 Transformers: Retribution
“At once,” Soundwave replied in his usual monotone. Starscream knew there was no need to vocalize what was merely standard operating procedure, but he did it anyway to remind Soundwave that he was second in command on this bridge. He enjoyed reminding all of them every chance he got. Soundwave might be Megatron’s loyal pet, but as far as Starscream was concerned, he was nothing more than a jumped-up communications officer with visions of spymaster grandeur, though he was nothing if not obedient: [...]
“Lord Megatron, I have completed my interrogation of the traitor Axer and have obtained the precise location of the Autobots. Would you like to see the playback of the questioning?” He said it with enough unrestrained relish that Megatron waved his hand wearily in assent. Sometimes you had to indulge your subordinates. [...] When Axer’s screams grew loud enough to drown out Soundwave’s questions, Megatron decided that it was time to move things along. There was no doubt in his mind that Soundwave could watch this video over and over again—and that he probably already had.

Helloooo, I wanna ask smth abt our glutenous pig, Bajie
I personally headcanon him that he's a healer in the grp bc of this one chap when they encountered Red Boy
When Wukong got injured from the true samadhi fire, he almost "died" from it and then Bajie was like " alr back off everyone, I got this " and poof suddenly he can heal someone and not just someone
He healed WUKONG, the monkey that's hard to kill and gets hurt
When I was watching that ep ( the 1986 series) I was like ??? He can do that ??? Bc I don't seem to recall anyone ever acknowledged the fact that he can do that
Then when it gets to the chap where Wukong feed the king w pills that contain dragon horse piss, it's not Bajie who does that, it's Wukong. And I get that bc oh Wukong is cool look at what else he can do but Bajie just standing there and doing whatever Wukong asks him to
Like aren't you the one who healed wukong from the true samadhi fire ??
Did the novel ever mentioned that Bajie can do medicine, herbs or healing ? Maybe the poems but I don't read poems unfortunately even tho it contain lots of context that aren't told in the story
Yes, the novel indicates that Zhu has medical knowledge.
As you mentioned, in chapter 41, he performs life-saving massage to resuscitate Sun Wukong:
With a chuckle, Eight Rules [Zhu Bajie] said, “Brother, stop crying. This ape is pretending to be dead, just to scare us. Feel him a little and see if there’s any warmth left in his breast.” “The whole body has turned cold,” said Sha Monk [Sha Wujing]. “Even if there were a little warmth left, how could you revive him?” Eight Rules said, “If he is capable of seventy-two transformations, he has seventy-two lives. Listen, you stretch out his legs while I take care of him.” Sha Monk indeed straightened Pilgrim’s legs while Eight Rules lifted his head and straightened his upper torso. They then pushed his legs up and folded them around the knees before raising him into a sitting position. Rubbing his hands together until they were warm, Eight Rules covered Pilgrim’s seven apertures and began to apply a Chan method [anmo chanfa, 按摩禪法] of massage on him (emphasis added). The cold water, you see, had had such a traumatic effect on Pilgrim that his breath was caught in his cinnabar field and he could not utter a sound. He was lucky, therefore, to have all that rubbing, squeezing, and kneading by Eight Rules, for in a moment his breath went through the three passes, invaded the bright hall, and burst through his apertures. and burst through his apertures. “O Master,” he [Monkey] began to say (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 2, p. 232).
Also, in chapter 69, he argues with Wukong about the attributes and usages of a medicinal ingredient:
“The flavour of badou [巴豆],” said Eight Rules, “is slightly acrid; its nature is hot and poisonous. Able to pare down the hard and the accumulated, it will therefore sweep out the submerged chills of one’s internal cavities. Able to bore through clottings and impediments, it will therefore facilitate the paths of water and grain. This is a warrior who can break down doors and passes, and it should be used lightly” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 3, p. 274).
八戒道:「巴豆味辛,性熱有毒。削堅積,蕩肺腑之沉寒;通閉塞,利水穀之道路。乃斬關奪門之將,不可輕。」

Hi, I found this on Reddit and I’m curious about your thoughts on this statement theorizing the origin of Hyacinthus and Cyparrisus myth.
“On the other side of the Aegean in Anatolia we have a remnant of what may have been the earlier Minoan religion. They are ruled by a dominant Goddess Queen who has a semi-mortal consort named Attis who has castrated himself out of guilt for failing Cybele and having a relationship with another man. The 'infamia' is not that he was gay, but that he took a submissive role to another deity. In other words, he lost his God King status.
In some versions of the legend Cybele keeps the semi-mortal fallen God King alive either by holding him within the bosom of the Earth or by turning him into a tree that is kept alive by the Earth.
Hyacinthus and Cyparrisus are likely the same legend, one with the earlier solar symbolism and the other with the later nature symbolism. In other words, Minoans had a solar cult, the Zeus worshipers defeated them and their God King became a submissive plaything of Apollo. Their cult was stripped of power and prophecy symbolism (solar symbolism) and replaced with nature and fertility symbolism. The legend of Apollo and Daphne and Telphousian Apollo are likely related. The Zeus worshipers take Delphi and take the sun, and in order for Daphne to stop being chased, she must transform into a tree...a nature cult. Only then is her cult left alone.”
Here’s the link to the full conversation.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GreekMythology/comments/oh8u7g/i_have_noticed_that_there_are_a_lot_of_myths_with/
I apologize for the late reply, I was in my Chronic Insomniac mode instead of my Myth Enthusiast mode these day so I can't write a proper respond :')
Gotta admit although I talk a lot about Hyacinthus' worship evolution, I'm still a newbie with pre-classical Greek history and mythology, so I'll leave the educating explanation for my more knowledgable moots and anyone interested in the topic.
As for my opinion, I think this theory is interesting but not without questions. I'll talk about what I know about Hyacinthus, but I will have to regrettably leave out Cyparissus as I'm not very well-versed about his history.
I don't remember reading about Hyacinthus's myth and figure being derived from Attis. It could be me remembering wrong, but the Reddit comment didn't provide sources for their claim so it's hard for me to verify just how these two were connected.
From what I gathered from Theoi.com, Attis is identified with Iasion (mortal lover of Demeter) or Anchises (mortal lover of Aphrodite), which is more understandable because Demeter and Aphrodite had roots of being the Great Mother or the Goddess Queen themslves. And while pre-Hellenic Hyacinthus was thought to have a female counterpart before Apollo replaced her, I think said partner is pre-Hellenic Polyboea, and from my memories, she isn't a Queen in the same class as Cybele, Demeter, and Aphrodite.
I do agree that Hyacinthus was usurped by a foreign god worshipped by the people who annexed Amyclae, but I think it was all Apollo who usurped Hyacinthus and took him as his lover. I don't think I've read about Zeus having anything to do with Apollo/Hyacinthus' myth and history (or he was like the mascot of the Olympian worship that took over the old gods?). If he somehow were involved please let me know!
Also, also, even as a mortal, Hyacinthus was still respected and stood almost as an equal to his godly lover. There are accounts demeaning his status, like the footnote in Ovid's Metamorphoses 1986 copy that mention Hyacinthus's god/hero status being degraded to a catamite of Apollo (fucking rude). Hyacinthus had always been associated with nature and fertility before Apollo came along so I don't think he was forced to become a nature god because of Apollo, but it's interesting though that Apollo stripped god Hyacinthus of his prophecy power only to teach it to human Hyacinthus, it came full circle
Anyways that's all I got. Anyone can add in things I missed or was wrong about. I'm gonna go crash out now...

Could I ask for your thoughts on Last Bot Standing's ending? That tidbit intrigued when reading your post.
hahahaha. you wish to invoke my ire? my rage? *eyes clock* I wonder if I have enough time to do this before I have to leave for work
let's get the disclaimer out of the way: LBS is not for me. that's the proper thing you're supposed to say in this situation. my criticism is all extremely personal taste related. the story is cogently written, it's cogently drawn. it's An End to Transformers - that was its goal - and it fulfilled it.
so with that out of the way, I'll put my personal taste related ire beneath the cut. let's be honest, here. anger is entertaining, but it's not all that inspirational.
Second Disclaimer: I'm going completely off memory and I'm not going to cite my sources because I don't have time, but you all know where the tf wiki is. You can read the plot yourself and try to find the tweet I mention
First, a quick note on WHEN it came out, since that's important: IDW2 was coming to an end (they were losing or not renewing their TF license, whichever it was). Nick Roche wrote and drew LBS, and it was one of the very last things coming out from IDW. he described it as, per my memory of one of his tweets, the equivalent of "carrying your screaming kids out of the restaurant." Although this was done during IDW2, he specifically drew Rodimus (the main TF character) in his MTMTE form (from IDW1). Roche said that the story was meant to be "an" end to TFs, not "the" end. Meaning, yeah sure it's canon, but there are soooo manyyyyy dimensions out there. This doesn't have to be the end of MTMTE Rodimus.
but oh boy was it implied.
the story was 4 comics long and it went something like this: we're introduced to an alien girl on an alien planet towards the heat death of the universe (so, really far future). it's a Western style world. girl has a wagon, brothers, and conflict with the town she lives in. the planet has energon, which the natives find. this attracts the last living group of Cybertronians. surprise: the wagon is Rodimus. he wakes up and slaughters them all. he basically says Cybertronians have no fate but to fight: they are inherently violent and destroy everything they come across. so he's been killing them. he killed his own crew of friends when they landed on that planet. at the end of the story, when every single other Cybertronian in the entire universe is dead, he shoots himself up into orbit around the alien planet so he can slowly starve to death
that summary really doesn't do the emotional impact much justice, so, idk, read it if you want
when I finished the story, I sat back and thought, "wow, if I hated Transformers, this is what I would've written. but the guy who wrote this doesn't hate them. Nick Roche, who hurt you?"
and I had an immediate hypothesis. the 1986 movie. the movie slaughtered many beloved characters, and Roche was passing on that childhood hurt
lol. I mean, maybe. that's something we'll never know, but that was the first explanation I thought of
ok so why hate this?
it's fundamentally hopeless. there is nothing but slaughter and death. no recourse. no discussion, no chance for people to change. no further exploration of any other possible options. just slaughter and death. I, personally, hate that
any particular iteration of Rodimus you find- this isn't how he acts. MTMTE Rodimus ended LL uniting his crew into spectacular action by saying how they might not be good, but they're good enough
the portrayal of the entire species as inherently harmful bothers me
this was like, the LAST THING WE GOT FROM IDW. THIS WAS THE CROWNING, FINISHING ACT. LOL. what??? the fuck???????? to me it read as "well, we don't have them anymore, so no one else can have them. we'll destroy them."
now in an attempt to stymie anyone coming into replies and arguing with my opinions, remember: this is my opinion. I put it behind a cut after clearly labeling it. this is not a discussion. I don't want to have a discussion.
LBS is what I would've written if I hated Transformers and wanted them to suffer and die in the most personal, horrible ways possible. but I don't hate TFs. I really really like them. I love giving them stories. so LBS encapsulating the worst ending for them possible, yeah, I'm gonna hate that

In 1986 he received a diploma of artist-designer, in 1991 - a diploma of interior designer. During his studies, he joined the Union of Designers of the USSR, in 2006 - the Union of Designers of the Russian Federation. In 1991, due to the impossibility of employment in his specialty, he began working as a stopper on the wagon section of the South-Western direction of the Ministry of Railways, where he worked for about a year. From 1992 to 1996, he worked as an artist-designer of the Moscow Palace of Youth, designer of JSC "MMM", chief artist of the magazine "Jeweler", artist-illustrator of the publishing house "Mahaon", designer of "faberlic", 3-D designer.
He devoted his free time from artistic, design and design activities to experiments in the field of easel painting. The machine creativity of the Chumakov-Orleans period of the 1990s is characterized by attempts to transform the philosophical and theological ideas of Plato, Hegel, Teillard de Chardin, Paul Florensky and other thinkers of the past into a visual image. This period of creativity did not have much commercial success. Realized only a few paintings. One of them was sold in 1995 live on television in the "Auction" section of the program "Good Morning" by Dmitry Dibrov.
In 1996, Chumakov-Orleansky joined the Association of Independent Artists, spontaneously formed by street painters near the Central House of Artists in Moscow. The plots of paintings of this period are humorous everyday scenes of Russian folk life, painted in the traditional technique of Russian artists of the late XIX century. The works were well received by the public, materials about the artist were published in several magazines. In 2006, Chumakov-Orleansky left the "Union" and joined the art fund "Russian Art Week". Under the auspices of this organization, as part of a team of artists, he participated in several group exhibitions at the MDH on Kuznetsky Most, the MARS gallery in Moscow, as well as in Denmark, Italy, Germany, etc. In 2008, he became the winner of the J. B. Moroni for "preservation and multiplication of pictorial traditions". In the same years, the artist's work began to change. The storyline began to trace allusions to the characters of the Old Testament, historical figures, heroes of ancient Greek mythology and heroes of "Commedia dell'Arte". The pictorial language began to be replenished with new techniques and materials. Potal, relief paste, acrylic metallics are actively used. Stencils, sgraffito began to be used.
In 2010 Chumakov-Orleansky took part in the exhibition "Traditions and Modernity" in the Central Moscow Manege. However, immediately after the opening of the exhibition, several paintings by the artist were withdrawn from the exposition at the request of the organizers for ideological reasons. [source not specified 2256 days]
In the same year, Chumakov-Orleansky began to exhibit on a permanent basis at the Orleansky gallery[1] in Amsterdam. As part of the gallery, he participated in exhibitions in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Berlin, Paris, Monaco, Zurich and Luxembourg and also, together with the Italian galleries "New Artemisia gallery" and "Spazio Museale", participated in exhibitions in Bergamo, London, Innsbruck. Since 2014, he has been cooperating with the Munich gallery "Atelier Alen".
Vladimir Chumakov-Orleansky's works are in galleries and private collections of Russia, the European Union, the USA and the People's Republic of China.

@stillhidden I'm answering here because this is longer than I thought it would be, and I have different theories about the UD and the monsters within that I wanted to expand upon. Tagging @skellybonesandtrees @pusheen1802 @spaghettificationandpretzels and @lavandulaphoenix since they've also contributed to these theories as well in past reviews I've written.
First, I think it's important to note the Duffer Brothers have mentioned that the Alien franchise served as inspiration for both Stranger Things and the design of the Demogorgon:
Tumblr media
We see this with how the Demogorgon is implemented on the show. The Demogorgon's life cycle, for instance, has similar parallels to the Xenomorph, from the impregnation of humans.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
....to the baby creatures (Chestbursters/Larve-Pollywogs) that come out of the humans......
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.....to how rapidly these creatures grow once they leave their human host.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.....to their animalistic nature.
Both Stranger Things and Alien even feature eggs. The difference is the Alien franchise established that the eggs were a part of the Xenomorph's life cycle, whereas the Demogorgons in Stranger Things appear to eat the eggs, as we see several times in S1:
Tumblr media
We've never gotten an explanation about what the eggs in the UD are. It doesn't appear they hatch Demogorgons the same way the eggs in Aliens hatch Facehuggers.
It's possible the Duffer Brothers originally intended for the eggs to give birth to Demogorgons before they changed their minds and the eggs instead became a source of nutrition for the Demogorgons. My guess is the eggs are part of the life cycle of a different monster with a different biology, and it's the kind of monster the Demogorgon would eat to sustain itself. It's the Circle of Life and Survival of the Fittest at play in the UD, similar to how other animals on Earth eat each other. They've shown and talked about other creatures in the Upside Down before: The Demobats. Nancy mentioning different monsters and a "giant creature with a gaping mouth." There were even designs for something called Demospiders that didn't make it into season 4, but could possibly appear in season 5:
Tumblr media
In any case, to answer your question @stillhidden, I think the show already has gone with the "Alien origin" in some regard. I doubt the Demogorgons have a Queen similar to the Xenomorphs, but you could argue that Vecna/The Mind Flayer (MF for short) is their Queen. The Xenomorph Queen and The Mind Flayer even have similar (and likely intentional) designs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for other theories regarding the Upside Down:
1.) I think Dustin is correct in that the UD is a world that's been around for thousands (or even millions) of years.
2.) I think the ONLY reason Vecna survived in the UD for 7 years without dying of starvation or thirst is because of his ability to consume the life force of any creature when he kills them. We also see vines attach to his back in S4 whenever he remote-travels. The implication I took from that is he draws power from the Upside Down, which may be helping to preserve his life:
Tumblr media
3.) I could be wrong about this, but I don't believe there's really a "special origins story" for the monsters of the UD. Previously, I went with the theory that the UD was once a thriving world before the MF came in and turned it into its personal hellhole while also transforming the inhabitants into Demogorgons and other monsters. However, given the way S4 went and the reveal about Vecna's relationship with the MF, that theory is moot. The only semblance of that theory I could see playing out in S5 is maybe creatures like the Demobats having some kind of poison in their bites that slowly morphs their bitten victims into similar-like monsters (think Seth Brundle's transformation in The Fly (1986)). If that theory pans out, then Steve's in a lot of trouble next season due to his bite wounds:
Tumblr media
4.) I don't believe Demogorgons/Demodogs are predisposed to hate and hunt humans, and can even befriend them under the right circumstances. D'Artagnan and his relationship with Dustin in S2 is proof of that:
Tumblr media
Vecna infecting the Demogorgons and other monsters with the MF, and hijacking the hive mind, is the primary reason they've been going after humans. The Demogorgon in S1 I am dead sure was being possessed by Vecna.
As for the Soviet Demogorgon, the way the Russians treated it as an attack dog and likely abused it (i.e. kept it isolated, used electricity/cattle prods on it, deliberately starving it before they released it on prisoners, etc) is why it's as vicious as it was. Notice btw that the moment it realizes the electric fence is off in the arena, it immediately climbs out and goes after the guards:
Tumblr media
Dustin treated D'art well, and he rewarded him by sparing his life (and the lives of Dustin's friends) in the tunnel. The Russians mistreated their Demogorgon in the name of weaponizing it, and paid the price for it.
5.) See my review of The Other Side for more details about UD theories, but I still maintain that Will being taken to the Upside Down is why time froze and the Upside Down terraformed into a version of Hawkins from November 6th, 1983. Vecna wants to know what Will did and how he did it, which is why he's interested in Will, why he didn't immediately kill Will in the UD despite having multiple opportunities to do so, and why he may have even tried to possess Will with the MF in S2. It's a given they're going to explore the connection between Will and Vecna in S5.
6.) In my review of Tomb of Ybwen, I discussed that one possible way for predicting how Season 5 will end was to look at The Lord of the Rings as a blueprint since the show LOVES referencing those books, and even makes parallels between them. Vecna's dominion over the Upside Down reminds me of Sauron's dominion over Mordor. Assuming Vecna's taken complete control over the inhabitants of the UD in preparation for his invasion of Hawkins, and that these monsters are connected to him via the MF and the hive mind, his demise will be similar to Sauron's: Once Vecna's dead, so are the monsters under his control, and he might have integrated himself deep enough into the Upside Down that said world could collapse (similar to Mordor collapsing once the Ring was destroyed and Sauron was vanquished).
7.) They haven't clarified entirely on whether the hive mind always existed in the UD between the various monsters and Vecna simply hijacked it when he formed the Mind Flayer, or if the hive mind was Vecna's creation and he bound those monsters to him when he infected them with the Mind Flayer.
8.) There's also the whole relationship between Vecna and the Mind Flayer. We know Vecna manipulated the cloud of black particles he found to form the Mind Flayer, but what exactly the MF is still unexplained. My brother (who finally watched the show) believes that the Mind Flayer is its own organism that only became a threat once Vecna gave shape to it, and (as part of its agenda) it's currently pretending to let Vecna think he's in control of it when it's actually the Mind Flayer itself that's calling the shots and using Vecna as a pawn.
IDK how I feel about that theory, but it's an interesting direction the writers could choose to pursue.
Sorry for the length lol! I had a lot I wanted to discuss because I love speculating about the nature of the Upside Down. Let me know what your theories are! :)

Djats beauty : Part two
Aka when my teen cousin (16) ask silly things about our shared fandoms (Djats and Twilight ) and then I transform It into a social genre experiment XD
Disclaimer : No animals were harmed during this process...though a (my) family was bothered with the superficial questions of a teen... helped by the too curious Adult (aka me) XD.
It was also my experiment , to see if men and women find the same people pretty in the same way...I'm very serious about this kinds of experiments.
Part two was between the men... Or you thought we were going to ask just about the women??? No,no,no. We're equals in my agenda!!!
We took as pretty source the actors that played the characters : Billy, Graham,Eddie, Warren, Nicky at first. I wanted to include Teddy and Rod, but my cousin said they are too old...I (obviously) won in the end or else I would help her convince the others to listen to her XD.
We divided It into categories (I told you very serious about It XD) :  eyes, face, hair , body, skin, and finally : as a whole (the one with better everything).
Eyes :
Women : Billy ("those eyes are wow!" "So light Green" "not they are blue" "no they are Green"...they were like the Golden White black blue dress internet meme issue..."They are beautiful let it be") , then Nicky (light and so pretty), then Rod ("his eyes look like melting caramel", "super pretty Hazel"), then Graham (again blue or green... sigh), then Eddie, then Warren, then Teddy.
Men : "We don't care". Cousin : the women voted for the women too. M: "You women are mean to one another, thats why you judge,  we just dont give a crap about each others".... Finally they voted XD
Fiiine: Billy, then Nicky.
Winner : Billy.
Face :
Women : tough Battle between Billy (perfect bone structure) and Rod (simetrical and very beautiful).  Then Nicky. Then Graham. Then Eddie. Then Warren. Finally Teddy.
My mom and aunt liked Rod the best. My cousins Billy.
Men : as they didn't care particularly they said :  Billy again, and then Nicky. Third was Rod. Graham IS too baby faced ,  Eddie looks "too girly for being a man, like an badly man filtered version of Karen with short hair (🤨?!). Then Teddy and Warren "they aren't hot, you women are weird".
Winner : Billy
Body :
Women: Billy (Six pack perfection, wow. Me: "He said he was starved while shooting". The Girls: "We also half starve ourselves to fit in the bikinis too, he did It for humanity's benefit , he should be proud"... I can't with my family I swear.
The rest: Nicky , Rod, Eddie, Graham, Warren,Teddy.
Men: Billy. Rod. And the Gastón mean looking one (Nicky).
Winner : Billy.
Hair:
Women : (with long hair better) Billy, then Nicky, then Eddie, then Graham, then Teddy , then Warren , finally Rod* Note : with the actors real hair Rod goes third position , but with the shows wig not ("Its atrocious kid" XD)
Men : Billy.
Winner : Billy.
Skin: We took into account the actors real age VS their skin appearance to judge , the glow , the color shade (uniformness and health) and the texture (acné, wrinkles...) to vote...When i tell you this was super pro XD.
Women: Graham, Nicky, Eddie, Billy & Rod, Warren and Teddy.
Graham looks 18, so yeah his skin IS good (1996) Nicky (1992) looks very good too. Rod Its looking fantastic for his age, way younger than his real age. Eddie looks younger too. Billy looks older than the character he plays but looks his age skin wise, not more (listen Twitter listen those wise words)...but not much less :( " Darling he looks in his middle thirties between 33- 35 years" "Yup more or less, Mom, he IS from 1986". "Close enough".
Winner : Graham.
As a whole : Let me count.... everything except the skin?...Who am I kidding?
Winner: Billy. He destroyed the others... There wasn't a competition at all XD.
It was easier with the men . Also my bratty 16, Almost 17! years  cousin was very surprised about Rod,  but like...My mom, my aunt/ her grandma, her mom (my eldest cousin) and our other aunt (half of the female votes) are his age or slightly older, between 42 to 60...what she expected?🤣.
Hadn't there been our adopted cousins (our male cousins's wives) between 33 to 39 (I call them cousins too... once you enter my family Its like the Mafia: you belong to us and you can't really escape XD) and her best friend was there too (18), to complete the younger vote  (that voted all for Billy)... Rod would have won.
Curious enough women can vote about other women (without any sexual attraction) while the men didnt care about voting for other men.
Weird right?
Thats It!

Archive Description:
Heidelberg Project:
The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art environment/art installation by artist Tyree Guyton on Heidelberg street, on Detroit's east side. Guyton started the project as a response to the deterioration of his own neighborhood, as wells many other Detroit neighborhoods after years of decline. Through the project, Guyton hoped to raise awareness of the decay of inner-city neighborhoods and the effects of urban sprawl.
Guyton grew up on the Heidelberg Street and returned on 1986, starting the project by cleaning up vacant lots with his grandfather. Using discarded items they collected, and with the help of neighborhood children, Guyton and his grandfather transformed abandoned houses and vacant lots into massive pieces of art. Guyton also integrated the street, sidewalks, and trees into an enormous work of art, officially calling it the "Heidelberg Project". The project initially received unfavorable critical reviews and the City of Detroit ordered him to remove his installations. Guyton persevered and has since received many award for his efforts. Throughout the years, Guyton continued to update and expand the Project, which eventually grew to encompass two city blocks. Sone disliked the attention drawn to their neighborhood, while others simply thought of the project's installations and junk.
In November 1991 Mayor Coleman Young, gave an order to demolish three of the project's houses, the Baby Boy House, Fun House and Truck Stop. Eight years later, in 1999, Mayor Dennis Archer also ordered three more houses to be demolished, Your World, Happy Feet, and Canfield House. Unfortunately, a series of unresolved arson fires between 2003 and 2015 destroyed 12 of his artistic houses on Heidelberg Street. Only two of the original project houses remain, the Dotty-Wottyhouse and the Numbers House.

Helen Norville, Tim Ahern and Dale Jennings, tearing up the streets of Darwin! ❤️
.
.
The settings of A White Marquis Matinee Jacket were visually gorgeous. The streetscapes of suburbia, old school motels and glimmering pools, the sprawling dusty outside of Berrimah Prison, and also the stunning clearing in which Helen and Dale had their date in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But did you know that this part of the episode wasn’t filmed in Darwin itself? Filmed around March 2021, The Newsreader’s makers found themselves a victim of the state border closures of the COVID pandemic. Northern Territory had closed their borders to Victoria, meaning the makers had to source a local state alternative to bring 1986 Darwin to life. Frustratingly, they had flights to Darwin booked already, and Anna Torv had even booked a crocodile cruise for the cast and crew; revealed in a 2021 episode of the TV Reload podcast.
Tumblr media
It’s then that they settled on Mildura; a city in northwestern Victoria. As an ABC article stated, its tranquil, oasis-like streets proved the perfect location to transform into Australia’s northernmost capital city, and so the creative crews had a lot to play with. It was more deserty than tropical, so any place with a palm tree was used, and the film makers were so careful in framing shots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The good people of Mildura also proved to be very useful. Not only did they provide their homes, businesses and vintage cars to dress the set, a whole group of locals were also employed as extras (with exception of Michael himself), playing members of the press crew that are in the background of our scenes with Helen, Dale, Tim and Ross. Reading the article aforementioned, they were so proud to play a part in making the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s all take a moment to admire these shots taken by the ABC and Michael Lucas’ husband Adrian Chiarella, and to say a big thank you to the good people and places of Mildura for bringing this wonderful episode to life! We would not have had A White Marquis Matinee Jacket without them! ❤️🌞🎥🕶

So I just saw the Transformers One trailer and wanted to give my first impressions. Thoughts below cut.
The very first thing I noticed with the trailer is that they seem to have gone for a 1986 movie or MCU approach in the sense of going for a PG-13 tone. Makes sense, since most general audiences are probably going to be way more receptive to that tone than the milder TV Y7 tone you see in other TF media. I do hope they manage to find a good balance between humor and more sincere/serious moments, it seems like this movie could have a risk of tone whiplash.
Kinda related to the tone thing, I can say that I was laughing at the jokes in the movie, which is a good sign. Bee seems to be the main source of comedy, so I really hope that his jokes land and that they didn't just put the "good" ones in the trailer. Poor comedic timing can easily kill any important yet sincere moments if one isn't careful with the placement of jokes.
I also like the character dynamics I saw, especially between Orion Pax and D-16. I really hope none of that gets screwed up either. Here's to hoping that Elita finally gets a proper chance to shine too.
Overall, I had a good first impression, but I also see potential for failure in tone. I'm gonna do my best to stay on the hopeful side though.

I've heard that Wukong has a heart of gold (literally), as well as iron lungs, and a metal spine from being in Lao Tzu's furnace and eating molten Copper from Guan Yin and was wondering if this is true.
Monkey states that in ch. 34:
When old Monkey caused great disturbance in the Celestial Palace five hundred years ago and was refined for forty-nine days in the eight trigram brazier of Laozi, the process in fact gave me a heart strong as gold and viscera hardy as silver, a bronze head and an iron back, fiery eyes and diamond pupils (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 2, p. 131).
The legend of his adamantine body predates the 1592 JTTW. For instance, Sun claims the following in the early-Ming zaju play:
I plundered Laozi’s gold Pill of Immortality, and have endured so many alchemical transformations that my muscles are brass, my bones iron, my eyes fire, my pupils gold, my asshole lead and my prick is pewter (Ning, 1986, p. 142).
Another example comes from the 13th-century JTTW. He is referred to as the the “Bronze-Headed, Iron-Browed King of the Eighty-Four Thousand Monkeys of the Purple Cloud Grotto on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits” (Wivell, 1994, p. 1182). And the story ends with the Tang Emperor Taizong enfeoffing him as the “Great Sage Steel Muscles and Iron Bones” (Wivell, 1994, p. 1207).
