(Part 1) Underrated Recommendations for Film & TV
1. Wolfwalkers (Film, 2020)

Wolfwalkers follows the story of Robyn Goodfellowe, a young apprentice hunter who arrives in Ireland with her father during a time of superstition and magic to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to turn into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh's missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the Wolfwalkers and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.
2. Reservation Dogs (TV, 2021)

Reservation Dogs follows the exploits of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who steal, rob, and save in order to get to the exotic, mysterious, and faraway land of California. To succeed, they will have to save enough money, outmaneuver the methheads at the junkyard on the edge of town, and survive a turf war against a much tougher rival gang.
3. The Breadwinner (Film, 2017)

Parvana is an 11-year-old girl who lives under Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2001. After the wrongful arrest of her father, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family. Working alongside a friend, she soon discovers a new world of freedom and danger. Drawing strength from the fantastical stories she invents, Parvana embarks on an epic quest to find her father and reunite her family.
4. Carol & the End of the World (TV, 2023)

With a mysterious planet hurtling towards Earth, extinction is imminent for the people of the world. While most feel liberated to pursue their wildest dreams, one quiet and awkward woman, Carol, stands alone—lost among the hedonistic masses.
5. Infinity Train (TV, 2019)

The series is set on a gigantic, mysterious and seemingly endless train traveling through a barren landscape, whose cars contain a variety of bizarre, fantastical, and impossible environments. Passengers on the train proceed from car to car by completing challenges which help them resolve their psychological trauma and emotional issues. Every season of Infinity Train (referred to as a "Book", each with its own separate subtitle) follows its own storyline and set of characters, although some characters appear across multiple seasons.
6. Moral Orel (TV, 2005)

The series follows the titular Orel Puppington, a young, happy-go-lucky and naïve Protestant who showcases his commitment to God, while dealing with the cynicism of his abusive and alcoholic father, his lethargic mother, and the devoutly Protestant town of Moralton in which he resides.
7. Bee and PuppyCat (TV, 2013)

The series revolves around Bee, an unemployed woman in her early twenties, who encounters a mysterious creature named PuppyCat. She adopts this apparent cat-dog hybrid, and together, they go on a series of temporary jobs to pay off her monthly rent. These bizarre jobs take the duo across strange worlds out in space.
8. Tuca & Bertie (TV, 2019)

This animated comedy series explores the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building. The buddy comedy features cocky, carefree toucan Tuca and anxious, daydreaming songbird Bertie as they live their lives in the metropolis of Bird Town.
9. Wander Over Yonder (TV, 2013)

The series follows Wander, a nomadic, helpful, and overly-optimistic intergalactic traveler and his best friend and steed, Sylvia the Zbornak, as they travel from planet to planet helping people to have fun, play, and live free, despite the continuing encroachment of Lord Hater, one of the most powerful villains in the galaxy, and his army of Watchdogs.
10. The Midnight Gospel (TV, 2020)

The Midnight Gospel revolves around a spacecaster named Clancy Gilroy, who lives on the Chromatic Ribbon, a membranous, tape-like planet situated in the middle of a colorful void where simulation farmers use powerful bio-organic computers to simulate a variety of universes from which they harvest natural resources and new technology. Each episode revolves around Clancy's travels through planets within the simulator, with the beings inhabiting these worlds as the guests he interviews for his spacecast. These interviews are based on actual interviews, with real audio sampled from Trussell's podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour.

The Midnight Gospel's 5th Anniversary
5 years ago, Netflix dropped arguably their best adult animated show they put out in years.
The Midnight Gospel is an adult animated series created by Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward and The Duncan Trussell Family Hour host Duncan Trussell. It follows a podcaster (or a spacecaster) named Clancy Gilroy, voiced by Duncan himself, as he uses his illegally obtained simulation device to visit simulated planets to interview selected hosts.
The show is what I like to call an animated piece of art. To this day, it's the most visually stunning and beautifully animated show I've ever seen. The only two other shows I feel like has come close was Tear Along the Dotted Line and the recent The Gaslight District. Not only that, but I really like how it handles different topics, especially when they sorta clash each other like Christianity. It respects other people's beliefs without trying to call them out for "being wrong" which is something not even my parents can do over something like Elon Musk -_-
Unfortunately, Netflix suffered a huge loss in both the stock market and subscriber count in 2022, which also meant they were losing money. As a result, Netflix began scrapping previously in production content and cancelling shows they didn't find to be successful, and The Midnight Gospel was a victim of the chopping block. The show's cancellation still frustrates me to this day, even though show cancellations don't exactly bother me as much, because going through the show again, I've noticed that they had set up several cliffhangers that will never be able to be resolved thanks to the tart bakers at Netflix's absolutely schizophrenic expectations of what is considered a "success".
Regardless, I'm glad it still exists. I also have a bootleg DVD of it that actually works pretty well I bought from eBay last year. Even after 5 years, this show never gets old. Thank you so much Pendleton Ward and Duncan Trussell for creating this wonderful masterpiece and the people at Titmouse for helping out!
Happy 5th Anniversary, The Midnight Gospel! 2020-2025

WTW Power Prompts - Mechanics
First of all, thank you to the folks at WelcomeToWriteblr for giving me an easy way to return to this blog! I'll be hopefully completing this event for my WIP Hounds of Corduff.
I've decided to explore each of the prompts through the lens of a textbook written for preliminary students around age 7 - 9 in the country of Rosen. Vocabulary words and other important words will be bolded and there will be reading checks at the end of each chapter. Most importantly there will be pictures. Also, expect a sprinkle of religious dogma because it's Rosen so it cannot be escaped. I made all the "textbook pages" in Canva.
Text under the cut:
Sporecasters, also called Cruth, can learn many ways to change spores from one form to another. Some spores are considered empty. That means they currently don’t have a property. Beginners start by changing empty spores because they are easier to change.
To become a sporecaster, a person must be able to sense spores. Most people are born able to do this, but not everyone. If someone is born without the ability to sense spores, they will never be able to sporecast. This isn’t an ability that can be learned by studying it.
Spores are the tiny things that make up everything in the world. Some are empty, and some already have certain properties. Cruth can change any naturally occurring spores, but they can’t change spores already changed by another sporecaster. Cruth also can’t change any spores that are part of another person or animal’s body. The only exception to this is bloodcasting.
The ability to sense spores is called SporeSense and can be used in many ways. The first type is called recognition and is about being able to recognize different spores without being able to see them. The second type is called quantity and refers to the amount of spores you can sense or change at one time. The third type is called distance and is about how far away you can sense spores. The last type is the most difficult, precision, and refers to how precisely you can sense and manipulate spores.
There are ten types of casting. Lightcasting and darkcasting are the two easiest to learn. With lightcasting you can create light and even control the brightness. With darkcasting, you can make everything go dark, and again control how dark it is.
Windcasting creates a strong breeze; with this ability, you can make yourself faster or slow your fall. With firecasting, you can create flames, you can light campfires or use it as a weapon. Watercasting creates or manipulates water. With this, you can fill a cup or make it rain. With earthcasting, you can change the ground itself. You can create walls of stone or trip an enemy. Earthcasting is easier when you are changing earthspores, it’s difficult to change empty spores into earthspores.
There is also acidcasting, which makes spores burn through things. With acidcasting, you can change the acidity of the spores to be more or less dangerous. Lightningcasting creates sparks of lightning to shock enemies. These types of casting are more dangerous because these spores are difficult to control and can be harmful if you lose control.
The most difficult types of casting are bloodcasting and spacecasting. Bloodcasting is used to heal people, it’s very difficult to control the spores in someone else’s body. Spacecasting is the most difficult of all. With spacecasting, you move spores attached to an object or even a person and move them somewhere else.
There are lots of different opportunities for sporecasters at every skill level. Some learn the basics of many different types of casting. Others devote their lives to mastering just one ability. There is no right or wrong path for a sporecaster who wants to serve others.
Reading Check:
What does it mean when a spore is “empty”?
Can anyone learn to sense spores? Why or why not?
What are the four types of SporeSense?
What is the difference between earthcasting and other types of casting?
What is the difference between bloodcasting and other types of casting?
You finished this chapter! Great job!
The next chapter will be about the symbols we use to represent the different types of casting.

The Midnight Gospel - Duncan Trussel (2020)
One of the best animated series I've ever watched in my whole life. Basically, the main character is named Clancy Gilroy. He lives in a dimension called Chromatic Ribbon. Because he is sad and depressed, he likes to travel through different worlds, thanks to a multiverse simulator, to interview some random people for his spacecast.
The serie is actually based on real podcasts chaired by the creator of the serie with various guests.
As a little anecdote, the first time I watched The Midnight Gospel, I was so high (so high) on ketamin that I actually thought I had created the show. I mean, I thought I had dreamed it, I thought I had lived it while being the protagonist. So, when a couple of weeks later I rewatched it with a friend of mine, I was like "wtf? this thing is actually real and did not happen in my head?"
The last episode FUCKED.ME.UP.
In a few words: science fantasy, surrealistic, psychedelic, dark, funny, sad, deep, crazy, original... but those are just words. They don't mean anything.
Sharing is caring. Peace
