So obviously the first worst thing to ever happen to Barbara Gordon's character was regressing her back to Batgirl again after all her character growth.

But the second worst thing to ever happen to her is the perception Oracle is somehow tech support for the batfam specifically and not that she used to run her own team and regularly work with the actual Justice League.

I think these problems are somewhat connected in that they both relegate Babs as to being strictly in the batfam's orbit and make her appearance in comics contingent on her relation to another (usually male) batfam character (frequently Bruce or Dick). And it sucks to see because it not only regresses her character growth but it restricts her story from growing further than being support in other characters' lives rather than having her own independent life. It was her job to know things! She got shit done! She used to make cameos in seemingly unrelated comics (e.g. Suicide Squad, Blue Beetle, Green Lantern, etc.) because she was such a staple within the wider superhero community! Sure, her most frequent appearance were either with her Birds of Prey team or in Gotham-related stories, but she played an important role in the greater DC canon that I miss now.

Your Guide To Voting in 2024

Yes, you may feel like everything is horrible and hopeless, and you don't want to vote. I'm here to not do that, and give you tips and info on why. Ultimately, I do not care what you actually vote only that you try to go and fill out something.

Make Sure You Are Registered to Vote

Check your registration status. This site has a drop down to select your state, which will link you to the website to check and see if you're registered.

Not registered? Go here. This site will tell you how to get registered in your state and will link you directly to the online registration if your state offers it.

Make sure you have a government issued photo ID. Driver's license, state ID, passport, etc. Many states require to you to present some form of ID to vote. Find out what counts in your state (and exceptions and provisional ballot rules) here.

Know you'll have difficulty making it to the ballot box? Check the rules for voting by mail/absentee voting in your state and see if you qualify.

Look up your sample ballot ahead of time! Lots of places provide a sample ballot which allows you to see what all the issues are ahead of time. Since this will vary by local elections, the best way to this is to look up "[your county name] sample ballot", possibly with the year tacked on to the end of the search. This may not be available until closer to election day, but it is a great way to get prepared for voting.

Other Voting Tips

This is where I get into the bit where it matters more to me that you vote than who you vote for. This is a personal principle of mine: everyone has the right to vote regardless of if I agree with what you choose to do with that vote.

You do not have to fill out every box on the ballot. You can leave some blank! Don't want to vote on President this year? Fine! Only want to vote on President and don't want to research other issues? Also fine. In fact, you can turn in a completely blank ballot if you want, and that is a political action, too. (Tip: parties note a blank box on issues because it indicates to them you were dissatisfied with your options)

You can bring notes with you! Too many issues to keep track of? Write yourself a note, print out a sample ballot and fill it out in advance to copy over, finding a voting guide and print it. As long as it is ON PAPER, you can bring it with you. (I verified this is universally allowed here)

Don't know where to start on research? The sample ballot is a great place to start just looking up candidates, but I also recommend checking out your local chapter of League of Women Voters. They put out a voters guides for each election that list pros and cons to various issues on the ballot.

The most important and most neglected elections are your local ones. Real grassroots change might be possible in your city, if you pay attention. Too overwhelmed by all this? Pick a few local issues to focus on, like the school board or city council. My city passed a trans-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance in a red state because people rallied around a handful of progressive city council members that swayed the vote. Even if everything feels hopeless, you make things better for yourself and your loved ones by actively engaging in your local politics.

Remember it's voting AND not voting OR. I know a lot of people are extremely dissatisfied with their options for this year's election, especially at the national level. Don't stop doing what you're doing. Don't stop protesting and boycotting and donating and talking about the things that matter to you. Get involved in your community. Find ways to make a difference. But also, go vote. Please.

It's either TimBer or TimBerKon, I can't remember rn. It's primarily Bernard's POV, but there are several scenes Kon's POV, and maybe one or two from Tim's?

The plot is that Bernard and Kon are internet friends, and Kon likes to mess with people on online superhero-related forums because nobody ever really believes him. At some point, Bernard finds out (or maybe Kon reveals it to him) that his internet buddy is Superboy

Early on there's a scene where Kon is texting Bernard while at the tower hanging with YJ and sends Bernard a strategically taken selfie so that he doesn't accidentally reveal any identities.

At some point, there's a scene where Kon accidentally calls Bernard late at night to rant about something while he's working on the farm. It's at this point that Kon realizes his online friend is not a girl, which he had assumed based on the nickname he'd given Bernard (blondie? or something like that?). The conversation makes Bernard start to wonder about what life is like for superheroes outside of heroing.

Eventually, Kon lets a detail slip that Bernard uses to make a conspiracy video on his YouTube channel, and the video blows up big time. Kon finds out and puts two and two together and gets upset because he felt like Bernard was using him.

There's like apologies and things get resolved, and I can't remember how it ends (hence not remembering if Bernard and Kon's relationship ends platonically or romantically).

But yeah, if anyone knows this fic, pls let me know because I would very much like to read it again and I forgot to bookmark it, ig.

Thinking about how D&D (and other TTRPGs by extension) are almost an inversion of Theatre in the Round.

Theatre in the Round involves performing with the audience on all sides of the stage, which involves a lot of special considerations for how the show is performed, particularly in stage movement and set design so that the audience can always see what is going on onstage regardless of their position in the room. You are always performing outwards and you are being observed from all sides at any given moment.

TTRPGs, by contrast, usually involve a group of people gathered around a table, meaning everything will be performed inwards. The set up is inherently more intimate as you are performing towards each other instead of towards an external observer. Everyone at the table still needs to equally interact with the space and the other performers, but everything is built to look inwards.

Except....

If you add minis, the minis can be seen as little puppets performing in Theatre in the Round, acted out by the party performing inwards.

Idk where this goes other than it is an interesting contrast for me to think about.

but there is something about Cass being raised as a weapon, being denied her humanity for much of her childhood, being introduced to the concept of gender and choosing yes. She's feminine, she's masculine, she's none of the above and everything in between. I want Cass to get to be greedy with gender, want her to hoard it. I want her to explore every aspect of it with wonder and get to try everything she has been denied without regard for gender expectations. Cass trying on pronouns like clothes! Cass experimenting with wildly different gender presentations! Gender is a performance and she is going to bring down the house!! idk idk I am having thoughts. you get it?
