Who wants a bit of Minecraft spec bio?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my headcanon for Minecraft the majority of mobs share a very recent common ancestor with a slime-mold adjacent organism called the "root node," meaning most mobs (villagers, illagers, skeletons, zombies, mooshrooms, others) are fungoid/plantoid-appearing creatures.
Villagers are among the most complex of them all, boasting an intricate method of expression through extendable facial "petals" (thin, mostly transparent membranes) that shift in color, pattern, and intensity to express a vast and dynamic field of emotions. The protrusions on their head resembling eyebrows and a nose light up in patterns to convey information. Conversation is occasionally emphasized by vocal cues (the iconic "hrms").
While impossible to translate standard villager conversation into something intelligible to humans without advanced technology, Steve is the most "fluent in villager," with a baseline understanding of what different colors mean on a villager's petals and even dyed paper cards to replicate the expressions himself. He also has established a rudimentary sign language with the nearby village.
Steve works with a certain villager he's nicknamed The Language Guy, or "TLG," to propose new signs or revise existing ones. TLG distributes language updates to the village when they happen. TLG is the most "fluent in human," so they are the village's Steve equivalent when it comes to diplomacy with humans. They are also working on writing a book with every established sign and its definition. Since villagers don't have a written language yet, it consists of easily interpreted pictograms.
Humans and villagers have rather shallow avenues of communication due to their complete lack of intuition about each other's natures. However, due to their frequent interactions, TLG and Steve are very close friends for creatures with a compatibility gap bigger than the Grand Canyon.
Alex would really like to learn about all of this, but she's not quite got the hang of it yet.

your design is so clever and cool it inspired me to draw my own take on it
while I gave mine similarly exposed flesh and inspector limbs as well, I wanted to go for a more "cobbled together" look (more details on my tags)

trying to remember I can post my more unpolished sketches sometimes...here's some Idul again! Trying to figure out the main...species? ethnicities? There's three main extremes to their body plans and a ton of variation between them. Their names up top directly correlate to their main god, so like. "Svatku's people" and so on, and while it's technically a cultural name as well, they can get a little nasty about whether or not you "count" based on how close one looks to a certain ideal. In fact the Tetmin and Svanin have something of a caste system about it! The names themselves are likely the Tetmins words, and the other two would probably be a bit offended if you called them that to their face (but im still figuring out what they would call themselves).

a new little spingle... info about him under the cut
a disciple of glaris in sartrill's priesthood, despite his holy position - isn't too enthusiastic about it. truthfully, he was forced into his current study by his parents as he was born as a "curlwing". "curlwings" in sartrillan culture are considered the closest to "true" children of glaris, having been born with her "blessing" of flightlessness and therefore are believed to be more strongly attuned to her, so the natural course for any young curlwing is to enter priesthood training at an early age. despite that, however, karu never excelled in his priestly studies - not that he was necessarily bad or couldn't carry out the duties he were assigned, but his superiors keep worrying that he doesn't put enough heart in it, so he has never really risen considerably in the ranks of the priesthood.
somewhat lethargic, karu accepted his "fate" - while he has faith, he also longs for being able to have his own life as life in the priesthood is relatively restricted to the holy grounds and the districts in sartill closest to it. there is a small, adventurous spirit inside of him that wishes to see more of the world, having never left sartrill in his entire life, but at this point he's sort of given up on it. he is somewhat ruled over by his fear of sticking out and not conforming and betraying the expectations of the priesthood, his family and Glaris herself.
karu can come off as quite cold and tired as he feels sort of detached from the people and circumstances around him. when brought out of his shell, however, he brightens up considerably - but can be a bit cynical still. he isn't actually as serious as he comes across as, and actually enjoys being around people who don't take things too seriously either. he tries to self-correct though and therefore that part of him is rarely seen by anyone. because of his alienation from other harpies, partly due to his upbringing and role, he's a bit socially inept, but has learned to deal with that by hiding behind his stoic and unconcerned facade. a bit of a double edged sword because it only reinforces the idea people have of him around him as this "serious, no-fun wholly dedicated priest disciple who doesn't want to mingle with the commoners"
while he wishes he had more freedom to do stuff, karu does enjoy some parts of his priestly duties - most especially the craftsmanship he gets to engage in. sartrillan priests will actually be responsible for most of the settlement's craftsmanship especially ones concerning fabric and clothing, but also other crafts (former are just the biggest categories)
flightlessness is relevant in some satrtillan mythology and in the biggest story (the one involving glaris) is a noteworthy sacrifice some crakam made to grant them the ability to hide from humans using illusory magic. that ofc creates a sort of weird relationship with crakam society and crakam born with flightless conditions. in sartrill its especially pronounced as glaris is the settlement's "patron deity" and while care is taken to accomodate to the flightless, there is also a social schism between them and other crakam bcs of their connotations and also the fact that most flightless crakam are "strongly encouraged" and often forced to live in the priesthood.
craftsmanship is strongly associated with holiness/the priesthood in sartrill because the body alterations flighted harpies undergo to render themselves flightless permanently actually increases arm flexibility a little, and historically being unable to fly it was a natural direction for many priests to head in to contribute to the community which might be why it became such a strong practice
there are several different conditions that can make a harpy not be flighted - curlfeather is one of them. any condition which does such is treated similarly - it doesn't really matter which, but curlfeather is probably the most common/well known one.

have been haunted by the thought of buck waking up both sleep and grief rumpled padding down the hallway rubbing at his bloodshot eyes and pulling up a little short at the edge of the living room as eddie sits up on the couch all bleary and messy haired with a blanket pooling at his waist and they just stare at each other for a long time

the livestock of haek (top) and haen'oi (bottom), found in and around the landmass/island of Tunib'sau
wanted to draw up some creatures because I haven't created much hae planet fauna. ramblings below the cut, but it's a lot. all you really need to know is all of these animals can be eaten :)
uli'ni are highly social, omnivorous pack hunters (or ambush predators in small numbers), used for pest control by haek. a village can have a near 1:3 ratio of uli'ni to haek, with the pack usually belonging to a single family, or being cared for communally in some cases. bright, soft coats are sought after by haek wanting a pet. there has been a trend of uli'ni being imported into the city as an exotic pet - mainland uli'ni are a lot nastier.
tade are like truffle pigs. they can sniff out root plants from under dirt and snow, so they are critical for farmers when poor weather conditions would normally make harvests miserable. they are usually eaten along with the plants they help harvest. their "wool" is used for bed, bedding, clothes, and other textile things that are otherwise difficult to create with limited fibers. most shed their coats seasonally, but a mainland variety is bred to grow them continuously like sheep.
rudon are the fastest growing, hardest to handle source of protein a haek could ask for. they burrow under the snow, and further into the ground when it isn't covered. raising them is more difficult than hunting them in the wild, but some haek still try, creating stone-lined pits they will fill with dirt to keep rudon contained. they can wreak havoc on any plantlife if left unchecked, so they are rarely raised in the same village as a root plant farm. their fatty tails are used for tallow, which can be sold at high prices or traded for goods if transportation is possible and a surplus is available.
ta'fer is essentially a much meaner lobster. they can pinch, bite, and smack someone around with their tail. they are aggressive to anything that isn't a ta'fer, and evasive when they feel threatened, which makes them difficult to handle without immense caution. the meat is worth it to most haen'oi, though, and just the act of raising them garners a whole lot of respect.
bibbits are some of the most abundant fish (calling them that cus they look like that) in the oceans, found all over the world with different variations. the bibbits found around Tunib'sau are very boney, but those bones are soft and thin, not removed unless necessary (like for baby haek, it could be a choking hazard - baby haen-oi don't have this problem). bibbits are usually smoked and eaten whole for haek, or eaten raw in the water by haen-oi. they are very flavorful, but don't keep well.
le'bul, or the "walking jewel", is a six-limbed nautilus-like critter. they have tentacle-lined arms like octopus, but lack the chromatophores of the same species. they instead rely on their shells for defense and camouflage, evolved to mimic different types of coral, depending on the region they're in. the le'bul shown above grows a shell resembling coral found almost exclusively in underwater caves. tracking them down is a difficult task, but they can be lured out with bibbits, so actually catching them is pretty simple. their shells are often used as decoration or storage depending mostly on the condition of it after the rest of the body is removed.
lastly, corin is basically just a really big tilapia. high in protein, low in fat. their meat is white and not the most flavorful, but it keeps well and their bones are good for making broth. there are much better, tastier fish out there, but these are the easiest for haen'oi to herd, hunt and trade, so it is the most popular option. they're the closest thing to a domestic fish you can get in those waters. some even let you pet them :)

okay so clown noses on everyone.
one theory i've seen as to why they might have unceremoniously ditched the jeep is that they could've gotten some kind of sponsorship/product placement deal that would prevent them from showing different car brands. but having scrolled through some of s7/s8 i'm not super convinced.
apparently the truck in the bts/8.05 is a toyota tacoma, and whilst they do have other toyotas they use (i'm 99% sure the truck or SUV we saw in the 8B trailer is also one) it's not like they haven't used other brands, including during s8.
For example, the car Athena drives in 8.01 is a chevy and her patrol car is a ford.
Plus, the u-haul in the bts video looks like it's hooked up to the same GM truck Eddie's been overcompensating with driving since the fight-club arc.

and we had a jeep sighting in 7.04, so it's not like they somehow lost it during the fox divorce, they would've had to actively get rid of it/replace it with a different make. and look, ik 911 sucks ass at continuity, i think buck's technically had like 3 different jeeps and I'm pretty sure we're meant to believe it's the same one, but they have successfully remembered he drives a jeep for 7+ years.
also, do you guys remember buck's amazon prime basketball? it wasn't exactly subtle. if they were getting a cheque from toyota we'd get some goofy ass police chase where Athena randomly brings up the 0-60mph stats, not a blurry background shot where you can't even make out the badge.
in conclusion; that could very well be tommy's truck.

Tommy once again showing up to (likely) save the 118. Probably risking his own life. Even though the 118 completely wrote him off after the breakup and actively stopped Buck from reaching out (after he already risked his job & life for them) All because he’d do anything for Evan, there’s no hesitation, even if he does think he’s being used again by people who don’t care about him.
EXACTLY! Imagine, Buck calls him up and Tommy, for a split second, thinks, "Maybe he's calling to apologize? Maybe he's calling to really talk?" and then Buck asks for a favor. And Tommy deflates a bit, shakes his head. Should have known. But it's Buck, and Buck may not have feelings for him, but Tommy has all the feelings in the world for him, and he'd do anything for him. He'd do anything for any of them. Always has, always will.
The ask is big. And it's dangerous. But Tommy doesn't mind. If he dies, he dies. He's pretty sure he won't be missed.

Bet you didn’t think you’d learn what human and 100% troll Fass looked like today, did you? Or what his parents looked like. Or what he looked like as a human kid. Nope, betchu didn’t.
But anyway. A bunch of miscellaneous troll/changeling information just because. Also trolls are born as beans like bears. Just so everyone knows. Female trolls are called sows and males are called bores. That’s all.
