I’d heard people say that spiro makes you have to pee but I didn’t think it would be this big of a difference on DAY ONE. That 1.5 hour meeting was hell!

I love how all the datasheets for all my HRT meds say, "It may have other uses." That's so RPG item description-coded.
"Spironalactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It may have other uses." "Progesterone is used to treat the symptoms of menopause. It may have other uses."
Like, wow, should I try combining them with other items to solve puzzles? Will using them make my weapons do more damage against the undead? Should I check the wiki? Your Dark Souls-ass description of this medication has me thrilled about the possibilities.

We should really be warning trans girls about all the side effects of spironalactone and urging them to look into alternatives like bicalutamide. You won’t be able to pee standing up anymore bc that shit will be dribbling more than Pelé up in Heaven

i hate going to the dermatologist they always make me feel crazy like its my fault and like im insane for going to them for help with acne bc “its just on your face, you never followed up, you didn’t do this, you stopped taking medicine” and like yes i stopped but like all this talk makes me feel stupid for having acne like im supposed to be on spironalactone my entire life

If this is an inappropriate question I’m sure you will let me know. I was browsing you archive and saw a post about things that helped you during your periods and mentioned you don’t get them anymore. Why is that? Illness, medication or something like that? Some months I don’t get my period because a take Spironalactone for acne so was a bit curious! Sorry in advance if this is invasive.
Not an inappropriate question at all, don’t worry! I’m prescribed a combined contraceptive pill because I suffered from painful, heavy periods and moderate acne as a teenager, and I take it continuously as recommended by my doctor—so I don’t currently have a period anymore, though once I come off the pill in the future, I should (all being well) return to having regular periods again.

oh boo fucking hoo, you're a poor autistic bean so someone saying to maybe not hate an opressed group of people is doing an ableism to you specifically
have you considered pissing your pants?
Ah yes. Oppression is when I explain I have trouble doing something due to a disability. Versus being told that it's not a big enough disability for that and I should just shut up and specifically spend more time around kids. For some reason. An experience nobody will gain anything from.
Great plan! and no, while bladder control issues do come to an extent with spironalactone, I haven't considered pissing my pants. Would doing so make you feel like a better person?

Don't use Spironalactone!
Don't use Spironalactone. I know most doctors say the standard way to start medical transition is with it, but it:
-Is an insanely strong diuretic, get ready to pee every hour on the hour
-Can cause cortisol spikes up to 3x normal levels!! This both sucks mentally, and causes a buildup of difficult to get rid of fat in your abdomen (the cause of the roumored spiro belly)
-It INHIBITS breast development. I have been on it for 3 years, and have had exactly 0 progress in that time, other trans women report similar experiences
-It doesn't actually suppress your testosterone to the typical female range! Even after 3 years on a very high dose, my T is still not suppressed. This is corraborated by blood hormone level tests of many trans women
-It us possible to suppress your testosterone to desired levels using only Estradiol! How does this work? Well, the way that AMAB people's bodies regulate testosterone us by converting a portion of the T it creates to estradiol. If your bloodstream is full of estradiol (produced by your body or injected), your testes cease producing new testosterone until blood estrogen levels go too low
The reason Spiro was adopted into standard transition practice is that in the early 90's, evidence started coming out about increased risks of cancer and heart problems associated with high doses of horse derived estrogen (Premarin) and synthetic estrogens. At the time, bioidentical estrogens (like the estradiol in Estradiol Valerate) were lumped in with those estrogens, and so doctors began prescribing Estrogen doses too low to suppress Testosterone. They introduced Spironalactone to do the job, but the evidence and trans women's overwhelming personal experience show that it is outdated and by far a riskier method with less effectiveness than Estrogen injections alone

Me, a vet student: I know that dysphoria is a medical term that is used to describe more than just gender dysphoria and will be used in my veterinary notes as such
Also me, trans: haha that's a trans thing

do you think its ok to give cis horses spironolactone and finasteride when those limited hormones could be better used on trans women?
ok I KNOW. I KNOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A "haha funnee lets confuse codi" ASK BUT.
as a stem major (i GUESS) the distribution and rationing of medicines and equipment is a very very real thing, yknow? like this kind of moral dilemma (not this specific... cis horses and trans women situation but the prioritization of multi-use treatments in general) is something that's wildly debated in the medical community. There are literal PAPERS about the social discourse it causes within groups. Some medical staff see the ethical decision-making as a (albeit stressful) part of the job, while some deny it exists altogether. debating the morals of taking medicine away from one group in order to give it to another is something i don't think people should feel all to guilty or enraged by and we should save our anger for things like general accessibility or medical insurance policies so that we dont HAVE to choose in the first place.
moving on tho, spironolactone is a medicine that is mostly used for the dermatological part of HRT? to my understanding at least, it has very little impact against actual hormone regulation unless it's about reducing skin outbreaks for trans women and lowering the rate to which facial hair grows. its use for HORSES on the other hand is to prevent REALLY SERIOUS PROBLEMS like congestive heart failure and an overproduction of fluids. -- EVEN STILL, horses make up a VERY VERY small portion of entities or even animals that take spironalactone in general. x
finasteride is so underused by horses it doesnt even turn up many results on a browser. dogs use it more than horses do and even then its for BPH which all in all isnt a very serious disease and doesn't require much treatment using finasteride in the first place.
in conclusion. yes its ok. im all for trans rights but dont blame ya horses or dogs or cats for the governments lack of competence on the administration and distribution on HRT

Early HRT effects
Dosage: 50mg Spironalactone twice per day and 2mg Estrodiol, all taken orally
Day 22:
Minor mood swings.
Tenderness around nipples began day 14, peaked on day 17, and breast buds developed by day 18. They’ve grown a little bit since then.
Skin is noticeably softer
All in only three weeks and a day! I’m really happy so far :)
