Rise Mikey is secretly a chaotic little shit behind the big eyed, baby brother exterior. Too bad Splinter found this out the hard way.

Probably makes no sense without context lol. This is based on my text chat fanfic, Too Many Turtles, where Mikey lit himself on fire and danced to a kazoo version of the Mii theme. An ask (here) pointed out that a scenario of Splinter seeing this would be great, and I had to do a very quick doodle of it :)

For the kendratello au:?What would happen if Donnie did escape back to kendra? Would he really want that? What were the first few hours like once he was rescued?

Post rescue Donnie is pretty desperate to get back to Kendra. He clawed at Raph’s arms the entire way back, and shoved himself into the first corner he could find. It was hard to understand much of what he was saying, between the pleading, screaming, and gasping sobs, but it was pretty obvious from the get-go that Donnie wasn’t scared of Kendra, he was scared of them. Splinter urged the others out of the room so Donnie would no longer be overwhelmed. It took a long time of Splinter just talking—about how worried he’d been—how scared—how they’d all been looking for so long. How if Donnie could come out for just a moment, please, so he could see his boy and make sure he wasn’t hurt or injured.

Donnie was eventually coaxed out, but collapsed, and begged his father to let him to back to Kendra.

He’s too scared, at first to try any real escape attempts, but when he gets desperate, and his family won’t tell him what they brought him back to fix for them, he makes a few failed attempts to flee in his own. Luckily they catch him. He does manage only one, where he fully makes it out of the sewer before they have to drag him back—kicking and screaming.

Donnie's basically canon Donnie up until a point right? So the same Donnie who used to be so desperate for some kind of parental approval saw this version of Splinter being caring with Mikey and being, presumably, even more distant from Donnie than even his version of his dad, because yk... He doesn't like... Know him the way that his own dad does. So he saw that he was protective of and caring towards Mikey, but didn't immediately start fathering Donnie and was like... I'm basically a suspect to him

Welcome back to another episode of "Turtle Gets a Hug"

Dee tried so hard not to get attached to this new family of his, he really did, avoided anything that would get him to care for them.

And he did fine for the first month or two, but eventually, one by one, they got through his defenses. He found himself coming to love the people he had lost.

With that newfound devotion came the deep sense to prove himself - to his parents, yes, but also his brothers.

He helped them out where he could, all the while staying in control of his emotions, because one wrong move would surely send everything falling apart again.

But nobody's perfect.

When Donnie saw the Foot? When he lost his temper? Yeah, he knew he was done for. I mean, he yelled at Mikey, his parents' precious little golden boy. There had to be repercussions for that.

And his parents weren't exactly thrilled at his outburst, that much was true.

But they also knew that he's been through a lot, and that these kinds of outbursts were bound to happen at some point. (Draxum's made the comment that it's a step up from him keeping everything in all the time.)

Needless to say, there's a lot of confusion and lack of communication on both sides.

Which'll hopefully get cleared up one of these days. . .

You've totally nailed this, yes. I have a little comic idea planned that'll dive more into Donnie's relationship with Splinter and the other two parents (I got no idea when I'll actually finish it though)

MY ROTTMNT OC REFERENCE!!! YAPIIII :D

so! Meet the! *drum roll* ELIN! My new rottmnt OC! (The full name is Elin Cruman.)

I'm gonna write abt her some things soooo... yeah hehe :3

Her lore: As a child, Elin had no friends because everyone considered her strange and bad because of her violent nature and anger control problems. Elin had a very strong Thirst for adventure. She loved to go outside and climb some abandoned buildings or stay in the woods for a little while, for a little while because she didn't want to bother her family with her missing lol.

A few years later, when she had already grown up, she decided that when she reached a certain age, she would move to New York and study at the university there. The day after her eighteenth birthday, her father decided to tell her about his original plans for Elin. It turns out that he and his mother wanted to move, but they couldn't choose between New York and some other city, but after learning that their eldest daughter would move to New York to study at a good university, they still decided where they would move to, and decided to surprise their eldest daughter.

When her father told Elin everything on the day of the move, she, well.. was in complete shock and was not happy and glad, because she did not want to be under the control of her parents again, but they reassured her on the way during the move that they would not monitor and take care of her since she was already an adult and could take care of herself By myself.

As soon as they got there, they examined the new house. It turned out to be quite great and big for five people and for a big dog. And finally Elin started going to her new college, where unfortunately only a small part of the people are afraid of her again because of her violent nature, but since it was only a small part of the people, everything was good enough for Elin. She also meets April O'Neill and Sunita there, and after a week of hanging out together, they become friends.

A few months later, it turned out that Sunita is Yokai. And when a year passed, Elin was introduced to the turtles and at the first meeting she really liked Raph (in friend way ofc). The big turtle was a lot of fun to tease and prank along with Leo or Mikey. They spend time together very often and Raph slowly begins to feel sympathy for Elin. What would they do in such a situation? We'll find out later hehe! ;3

Personality: Because of anger issues, she can get angry pretty quickly, but she still tries to control it, even though she doesn't always succeed. She is very boisterous and cocky, likes to tease or make fun of anyone (most often it's Leo, Raph and Donnie). As I said before, she loves adventures very much, so she constantly asks to go on missions with the turtles, but most often she is refused, namely, Raph refuses because he does not want her to hurt herself, but even so, Elin still sometimes secretly followed them on missions and they drove her back home or else somewhere, but not for them on a mission.

aw I love this ask! I have some specific ones that I use but otherwise I'm about to just rattle off random ones I think he'd use

for Lloyd: kid, green bean, gremlin, mostly things related to him being small and annoying. also weird variations/pronunciations of his name like Luh-Lloyd

for Nya: shortens her name to 'N' a lot when he's messaging or writing, he also insults her affectionately usually about her being nerdy

for Jay: also a lot of affectionate insults. SPARKIE. I love that one soooo much

for Cole: likes to call him emo-boy because he's the black ninja. also enjoys calling him The Cole as if he's the hulk of their team

for Zane: the classics, bud, buddy, pal, he uses reassuring nicknames because Zane doesn't really understand affectionate insults. also calls him old man because they have no idea what his age is

Thinking about Rise Splinter hate… it always makes me kinda sad. Like YEAH, it wasn’t right the way he treated the boys. But like, Rise is really good at expressing subtle familial dynamics, and one of the big ones for me is the fact that like… there’s always an undercurrent of “It’s complicated” to their interaction with Splinter. IRL, it always pisses me off to see people casting judgments on people’s relationships with their family, because you don’t know!! Yeah, they hurt you, but not everything’s black and white. It’s complicated. Because you love them, and sometimes you get to understand a little bit better why things happened as you get older.

In a matter of smaller importance, hate for him loses so many opportunities in his character… even things that might just be kinda off-handedly mentioned.

He fought for SEVEN years—give me Splinter with chronic pain. Splinter relating to his boys with their neurodivergence—it’s HIS fault they have it!!!

That was seven years of imprisonment, or even simpler, an abusive relationship. What did he learn from that? How did he change? What things are skewed in his worldview?

His childhood! We saw his relationship with his grandfather a bit, but how did Splinter grow into his dream of being a movies star? HIM BEING A MOVIE STAR. He was both a rebellious team and a literal celebrity, this guy probably took empyrean at some point without knowing it, just like. Recreationally or something LMAO.

I maybe just need more of his old man knowledge. Him being so loser-core was a great move by the Rise team, and I could SEE where his story was going—ROBBED. We were ROBBED.

splinter hate is CRAAAAZY when he's such an INTERESTING character who does actually have a lot of obvious depth. like he's goofy and he's objectively flawed as a parent but he does go out of his way to improve himself and LEARN throughout the show, and he does listen and apologize when he knows he's messed up. his issues are so similar to leo's actually, leo's a kid so he's got more leeway to be shitty but idk when people act like its endearing on him and not on splinter. splinter's hilarious free my man

on the other side of the coin i dont really like when people make him a perfect loving parent either,,, i think people going for all kinds of interpretations in order to serve whatever story they need is fine but i do prefer kind of messy parent splinter, i think its kind of sad to see him reduced down to bad or good. he LOVES his boys so dearly and he would NEVER intentionally want to hurt them, but he's quick to cast judgement when he's angered/feels disrespected (evil league of mutants comes to mind, but also in turtle dega nights when donnie first stops the tank) and he's really a lot more inattentive than he should be. but there are REASONS behind this, coming out of an abusive relationship, fighting in bloodsports against his consent for years, you could probably count the whole draxum thing as traumatic (its presented as kind of silly in the show, but considering what it lead to,, its a pivotal moment in the backstory. its one of those things that i reasonably feel can be recontextualized because its so essential) and then dealing with crippling body dysmorphia and being forced into the sewers with no company other than his children,, it really adds up

idk like ,,,, you can still be extremely traumatized and be a horrible parent. in fact trauma can be a direct CAUSE of being a bad parent because that kind of thing influences every facet of your life and if youre unprepared emotionally, yeah. but splinter isn't the kind of person to double down and become more overtly nasty when he feels cornered. if he gets the feeling that his kids are actually upset with him, he backtracks. this is actually kind of a key trait of his, that he does try very hard to correct himself when he messes up. he's communicative and apologetic, and he tries very hard to be that way.

and also this is maybe something that i just have a wider problem with when it comes to the way people interpret things in cartoons at times but splinter's actions in eps like lair games (especially in lair games) and flushed but never forgotten are meant to be like. jokes. its absurdist comedy that's meant to catch you off guard. there are more serious emotional beats in rise you can use but i think when youre adapting this world and characters into a more serious tone you have to keep that kind of thing in mind because some things are meant to be surprising and absurd for the sake of making you laugh. i think the best comparison i can think of is how in musical movies they're not actually singing (in most cases, sometimes the fact that they actually are is played for laughs it depends. but yk what i mean). the joke is that this is kind of a shitty thing he's doing but taking the actions themselves seriously in a vacuum in order to cast shame on a character has always been odd to me. that'd be like calling raph abusive for rolling up the window on mikey's neck in late fee. or calling the teetz murderers because they caused a robot mass suicide that one time. it just doesnt make any sense

I had just realized you were opening up for questions! Firstly, I love your AU so much, it’s beautifully amazing with the story telling & your artwork is also so amazing, I love every second of it! You’re doing an amazing job! (Just a reminder of how great you are!) 🥰🥹🩵

It’s always been a thought since his arc, but I’ve always wondered how Splinter’s reaction was to seeing Leo for the first time since trying to save him, but was told he was dead! Like now knowing that he’s alive, I could only imagine the amount of emotions he must’ve felt (regret I can imagine) that Leo had been alive this whole time & he was taken by someone who had wanted to see more of Splinter be in pain 😭😖

I had to draw this one out. April and an injured Raph had warned Splints that Mikey was on a mission to bring Leonardo home, and if he’d known how to follow their path, Splinter would’ve been right behind them. But Raph talked him out of it in the interest of stealth, and said to give them a little time. So when Usagi, Casey, and Mikey got back in rough shape, with Leo looking like every bone in his body had been broken, Splinter was in medic mode instantly. And even after that, he refused to leave Leonardo’s bedside. (We’ll see a flashback of the moment Leo wakes up in the comic).

Splinter has had a good half a year, coming to terms with knowing Leo was alive—since that random night they saved Casey from nearly dying—they eventually learned more and more from her. Then, when she recognized Usagi, working at Hueso’s, he had a few talks with Raph and Mikey, and could provide more on Leo’s personality)

But there’s definitely that moment where everything hits Splinter all at once.

I always liked to imagine that Splinter would adore Temi! For example, if Ana and Leo asked Splinter to babysitting with Temi while they went on business, I find it funny to imagine the two just watching Loy Jitsu movies together while Splinter tells funny stories from those times while Temi looks at all this with an with a joyful smile.

It will be even cuter if at such a moment Splinter involuntarily notices that Temi's delighted face will look like the delighted face of little Leo. 🥰

(I just really like the idea of Splinter being one of those grandfathers who spoils his grandchildren 🥺)

I also have this scene in my head where he would make her lunch and from his experience with the turtles was expecting some sort of a fight to make her eat, but not only she wasn't fussing or throwing tantrums, she would actually be eating by herself willingly, and that would make Splinter very happy. ... And also think that she's smarter than her father and uncles when they were her age, heh...

I also love those ideas of Splinter seeing young Leo in Temi. Absolutely wholesome.
