(naruto spoilers ahead for naruto classic) SO. there's literally like an entire arc dedicated to the fact that sasuke cannot obtain the mangekyo sharingan, as he simply cannot bring himself to kill naruto, his own best friend (you must kill your best friend to obtain it), even if it means not being able to enact revenge on his brother (has the mangekyo sharingan) for the genocide of their clan, i.e. his dream and ultimate goal in life ever since he was a child & reason for becoming a ninja, & even after falling under the manipulative and psychophysiological influence of orochimaru and his curse mark (mind you he hadn't even shown any indication he'd even consider killing naruto for even a moment before his encounter with orochimaru).

if you're curious about the "WEREN'T YOU GONNA BREAK OUR BOND" scene (yk the spongebob one) that's the context for that scene. mind you this all happens pre-shippuden which is three seasons and sasuke's GONE for one of those seasons cause he gets kidnapped after his curse mark leads him to persue orochimaru

If I wanted to read Road to Nowhere and knew Absolutely Nothing about Naruto except the SASUKEEEEE sound clip set to the spongebob scene, would that work? Or would I be super confused. What do I need to Know

Technically you could probably read it and know very little about Naruto?? I think it would probably be useful to have a general idea of who Kakashi is and some of the basics of the universe (the sharingan/mangekyo(specifically kamui) - or skip to that section on Kakashi’s wiki page for a shortened version of those articles and the ranking system are probably most important). 

If you want to go a little further, you can read the arc summary of Pein’s Assault, which is the point in the timeline where Kakashi-in-RtN comes from - but really what’s important from that is: they were up against an extremely powerful antagonist who almost singlehandedly destroyed Kakashi’s entire village and killed most of them, including Kakashi, in the process. 

I highly recommend this 6-minute AMV that kind of runs through his personal backstory!! It’s the one I sent to my qp who knew nothing about Naruto but wanted to understand for this fic lmao. If you only follow one of the links here I’d suggest this one

Yeah okay I watched book 1

So a few people in my family (cough cough @chapter-12 ) have been shoving avatar down my throat. As someone who grew up with Cartoon Network and like 2 Disney shows, the most I watched on Nickelodeon was around 5 episodes of spongebob and pretty much all of rugrats. However I clearly missed out of the main course of the channel because from what I’ve watched so far, yeah:

Avatar still holds up.

So these are gonna just be my first impressions because I’m not gonna form too much of an opinion until I’ve watched it all, uhhh no spoilers for anything past one and yeahhhh I’m gonna watch Korra even though I’m pretty sure it’s bad so no spoilers there either.

Animation

So to start, Avatars got some legit animation. As someone who’s studying animation and works in the artistic field, Avatar genuinely makes me sad with how generic modern TV has gotten (yes I know there are shows that are good in terms of animation but I’m speaking in terms of majority) like seriously whenever someone does bending or fight scenes the way they encapsulate weight and balance is incredible. Much impressed 10/10.

Story

Aight so my boy aang is like 112 years old after getting frozen in some ice and capable and her brother incapable both find him and are like “that’s cool that’s super” so blah blah oooops Caillou accidentally alerts angry boy zuko and his uncle iroh who is without a doubt the best character. So now incapable is like “damn Caillou you stupid idiot” and Caillou leaves on his flying teddy bear. So blah blah zuko attacks Caillou destroys him immediately. One thing I knew about but didn’t like know about was Caillou’s avatar state. I thought he’d get that once he mastered all four elements but nah, he can just activate his sharingan and go super saiyan whenever, which is honestly fine because god knows this group needs it. I found myself more interested in zuko’s subplot seeing as he just seems to have a lot more depth while Caillou just wanted to go to chuckie cheese’s where a kid can be a kid. I’m sure I’ll see more of him in book 2 but boy is that kid the embodiment of “I’m 14 and this is deep”

Season finale

I’m so glad there isn’t a word limit on tumblr. Ok so season finale is wild. Everyone arrives at the water tribe where Caillou is like “whaddup hoes” and shit. Capable wants to learn how to be a dope waterbender but bitchass says no because woman are supposed to be a human band-aid. Capable is like “ok bet” and gets sad like she usually does. So while they’re doing that incapable starts his local rounds of simping and decides to try and get under the sheets with moonlight Raven (yeah that’s a my little pony reference shut up) so fire nations gonna get here soon, iroh is a spy, zuko is angry, capable gets to learn waterbending because bitchass simps for her mom, blah blah blah plot and the fire nation gets here. Caillou needs to talk to Nintendo 3DS’ face raiders villain in order to get help but gets kidnapped by zuko because yes. Everyone was kung fu fighting oh-ah and then Caillou wakes up and zuko passes out in the snow but gets saved because Caillou is a simp. That one guy kills the fish iroh is like “bitch I was gonna eat that” and kicks ass then moonlight raven becomes the fish and sokka fucks the moon. Oh also Cailou became a big fish or something and walks around. Overall pretty solid season finale, though I feel like I didn’t see enough of sokka and Yue in order to really care when she died, yeah it was sad but it just didn’t hit like I think the writers would’ve preferred.

Conclusion

Peer pressure is bad kids.

I have a slight baby bump, now is the time to tell sans about sonic. I am so anxious I could puke...maybe that was just morning sickness. Well anyways I go to the kitchen (Where sans was) And explain everything

I went on a late night stroll and whilst I was walking I bumped into a man.. I could sense he was holding back a great power.. It felt familiar.. I looked up to see the man.. He had his fists clenched but he realized.. “How are you still alive?” He cupped my cheeks, “Are you-..... Y/N?!”

I hug him tightly, “NORVILLE! I MISSED YOU!” I too have learned how to contain my power to only 0.01% yet only feeble mortals will still die by my hands.

“I don’t go by that name anymore…” His voice trailed off, I took note of his colder, older eyes.

“W-What do you mean Norvie?”

“I go by only Shaggy… nothing more.. Nothing less..”

“O-Oh.. well I hope to see you again..” I fake a warm smiled and walk away but he grips onto my arm. I feel his grip burn my soul. He is using 5% of his power! But I was used to the pain since we had equal power. I jump back surprised, is….is he trying to kill me..? I try to run but he has me in his grip but I somehow I was able to slip out a ran out thinking about this.. He is really trying to kill me… what if I can’t run? What if he goes after Patrick? Or spongebob? Maybe even Sans.. I’m scared and I need to find out.

Months later

I get back in touch with patrick and spongebob.. Of course at first spongebob didn’t want to talk to me. Here’s how it went:

“You sneaky snail get out of my IG DMS!!!!” He replied to me in dms

“Listen, I need to tell you that my brother… Norvie is back…” I replied

“Who?” Spongebob replied

“Remember Norville?” I replied

“Oh my goodness he is back?” Spongebob replied

“Yeah” I replied

“Oh my god! I’m coming!” Spongebob replied

“Make sure you bring patrick” I replied

I go visit my parents, Spiderus and my pepper headed mom, they were just as panicked as I was that Norville is back… I thought we banished to the other world.. I looked at my baby brother Caillou.. He was hanging out with his girlfriend Peppa Pig and her little brother George.

I told them both that Norville was back

Peppa snorted in disbelief

George started crying

We turned on the news and Andrew Hussie explained

“We are gathered here to today to report of a murder…. Naruto Uchiha was found dead by Sasuke the Kazekage. Sasuke was Naruto uchiha’s former girlfriend. It seems that chara and Shaggy has killed him. His rasengan, sharingan and shadow clone jutsu just wasn’t enough”

I broke down into tears, They’ve already started

It was like ripping off a bandaid it hurt a lot but it was fast… I forced myself up, “I have to keep on fighting for the sake of sonic!” the doctors cried and they all clapped for me.

I got up and ran to norvill- I mean Shaggy and Sans followed me to Chara. We got our powers ready on the way. I was going to use 100% of my power… but that would be like uncle Thanos snapping sans into oblivion.

We slowly approached Shaggy and Chara. We felt a huge boom resonate behind us. We looked up, and saw… Clifford. After four years in the war, he had finally returned. But no w was no time for celebration. Now…

What is the strangest but best written crossover you have ever read?

Just to clarify what I mean by strangest; I don't mean something truly bizarre crossovers like Spongebob mixed with Game of Thrones, but two series that you would not expect to go well together and was expertly written and tied together masterfully. I am not looking for your run of the mill "Harry Potter x Whatever where Harry is the neglected sibling and learns to use the Force and gets the Sharingan" or anything like that.

Don't forget that what some people may think as an odd pairing might be normal to someone else!

A couple of my recommendations on some of the different crossovers I mean.

linkffn(https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13096794/1/Dust-Darkness-and-Dark-Knights) - A Dark Souls mixed with RWBY story, not the most out there of crossovers, but is very well written with few grammar mistakes and (to my limited knowledge from playing Dark Souls 1 and 2) faithful to lore.

linkffn(https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5672901/1/The-God-of-Death) - Warhammer and Warcraft mixed, similar to the story above, well-written, lore compliant (I think? The universes for those two are especially large and detailed). I find that fanfiction of game universes such as these tend to be high quality due to the sheer amount of lore that needs to be known lends itself to better writing.

Another good author for this sort of thing is Noodlehammer's Naruto series. While I know a lot of people that have read his works tend to be split on them due to the more controversial nature of some of it, the grammar and writing is consistently good, and he isnt afraid to toss canon events off of a cliff and forge his own story.

This one is a bit more of a comedy, and the author isn't afraid to forge his own path.

While these are only a few examples (and mostly anime/game cause that's the fanfiction I read, and I'm sure there will be people that disagree), I hope I got my point across. Whether is a crossover between two unlikely anime, or a game universe meeting a TV series, what is the strangest but best quality crossover that you really enjoyed you have ever read?
