With the consistent link between "large pointed ears" and "relation to the Gods" in the Zelda series, I do think that the Zonai are probably the closest thing we have to the true form of The Golden Goddesses and Hylia.
Ganondorf in OoT and TP starts out with small rounded ears and gains large pointed ones when obtaining the Triforce of Power (the manifestation of the Goddess of Power's essence). Ganondorf in WW starts the game with the Triforce of Power and thus has pointed ears throughout the game.
The Hylians are said specifically said to use their pointed ears to hear the voices of the Gods (though by time of most games in the series), the Goddesses have taken a more hands-off role. They're also most connected to the Goddess Hylia herself.
The Minish Realm said to be located just beyond the Heavens between it and the Light World (Hyrule's realm). The Minish feature a very high ear:body size ratio. Plus their ears are pointed.
In Skyward Sword, Demise looks at Zelda (mortal reincarnation of Hylia) and says that Hylia really "downgraded and sacrificed her divine form for one that pales in comparison" (paraphrasing here) implying that Zelda doesn't have a 1:1 resemblance to Hylia like some believe.
The Zonai themselves are said to be direct descendants of the Gods. The validity of this statement can be up for debate as it comes from Hylian records of the Zonai, however there isn't really anything saying otherwise and the Zonai were given the Secret Stones (creations by the Golden Goddesses) by Hylia herself as revealed in TotK's Master Works.
The Zonai have some massive pointed ears and were said to have came down from the Skies/The Heavens (both are sited in the game several times. It could be referring to the same place OR it could mean that the Zonai came down from the Heavens to the Light Realm's Sky, and then to the Surface and Depths. Ultimately which it is isn't really too important as the Sky of the Light Realm has always had a lot of divine connections and the Zonai people are undeniably connected directly to the Gods)
I think that the more humanoid form reminiscent of SS Zelda and the Goddess statues are less of a 1:1 depiction of the Goddesses, but rather the closest thing to their true form that the Hylians and other surface dwellers were able to comprehend, and in modern times are just the Hylians using their history to assume that the Gods probably looked similar to them.
At least, I'm sure this is the case for the Golden Goddesses. Hylia there is evidence supporting the more humanoid form (like the fact that the Zonai themselves too have Goddess Statues that are in line with the Hylian depiction of Hylia). If anything, the link between large pointed ears and divine connections certainly exist. So at least we have that tidbit and can probably assume that they have a very large ear:body ratio.
I do like the less-humanoid concept for what the Goddesses could look like over the "humans but with massive ears" thing that most modern Hylian architecture and sculptures depict them as. To me, that's just the Hylians seeing themselves in the Gods rather than it being based in 100% reality.
#idk what this post is#I just think that the idea that the goddesses look just like hylians is SO BORING!#I was just thinking about Zelda lore as I usually do and thought about that line from Demise at the end of SS#it made me realize that we don't know what the Goddesses look like#NO the Oracle and Minish Cap Din/Nayru/Farore are NOT the actual Goddesses. they are ORACLES#They are two different people#the legend of zelda#tloz#legend of zelda#loz#golden goddesses#hylia

Linktober Day 31: Free for all!

For our last drawing I did three of my favorite villains from the series. I wonder if the emo bangs are to distract us from their collective lack of eyebrows 🤔
And we're done with Linktober guys!!! This has been a lot of fun and I look forward to next year.

I think once I'm done with my next piece, which is still being decided by a poll, I'm going to make a piece with every single Zelda with their respective designs, like at first I thought about having them all be in a similar design but I like their original designs too much to do that so I'm simply going to make a piece with every Zelda in their corresponding art styles (tho maybe I'll use the manga design for TP Zelda and maybe even SS Zelda, and I'll have to adapt BOTW/TOTK Zelda and have her look a bit more manga like while trying to maintain her VG design as much as possible).

Playing ooa and istg I thought jabu-jabu was oot only. Please, I don't want TWO water temples!! In the same game!! One after the other!!
On the plus side, Ages feels like it has a much richer story than Seasons, though that could just be part of the ng+ thing they have going on. There's less you can do with a chaotic change of seasons than centuries of changing history. Seasons really could have done with some possession, though. Fridging farosh isn't nearly as interesting as the time travel court drama of the Oracle of ages getting possessed by an evil witch and going back to before the monarchy was abolished to befriend and then corrupt the kind queen and convince her to continue to build the tower she started as a lighthouse to her fiancé lost at sea only to use it as a beacon of evil and a base of operations for her cruel allies to usher in an era of darkness. It's not slightly as interesting!!

How the AOG boys would react to finding a lost, crying kid
Im doing this in hopes of it showcasing a part of the boy’s personalities while I work on lore/headcanons and other interesting things!!
Shifter: Very very uncomfortable and uneasy when talking with the kid but tries to be less threatening (absolutely has his mask on) as to not scare the kid. Offers logical explanations for any of the kid’s worries/questions. Agrees to help the kid find their parents, but doesn’t really offer any physical comfort other than a small pat to their head
Seam: Tries to cheer the kid up by doing goofy expressions and silly jokes, even offers to take them on an adventure to lighten their mood (this adventure includes trying to find the kids parents but keeping it light hearted)
Heavens: immediately goes to comfort the child, offering thrm a warm hug and a shoulder to cry on. Very empathetic with the child, softly asks questions and promises to find their parents.
Bard: taken off guard but quickly goes into action. Looks like a Punk, squatted down to match the kids height and is asking questions in a non comital voice but is secretly pissed that thr parents lost the kid. Promises to help the kid find their parents and scoops the kid up and rests them on his hip.

Nintendo will probably do something ridiculous with the timeline placement of BotW/TotK with just enough explanation that it makes sense, and I can make peace with that (although I still think the best placement is off a timeline split from Skyward Sword bc I mean, there is so much time travel in that, and the potential timelines are entirely unused but offer so much potential)
#I have the apparently very unpopular spicy opinion that TotK is leagues better than BotW but as a result I uh...#legitimately am fine with it not getting DLC bc the entire story was actually told this time 'round#although I did enjoy master mode and getting a separate save file for it#anyhow I haven't FULLY mapped the SS timeline splits to really figure out my BotW/TotK timeline theory#but with any luck I'll take so long nitpicking things in my head that Aonuma will just give us the placement before I get a theory I like#oracle of lore

I hate four hour shifts, they feel like such a waste of time and also means I have to work more days to make up the time.
But, at least I only work four hours which means I can waste time playing Zelda and only have to deal with four hours of working through gaming pains 👍
#i started ss last night#i think if my sister still has her online stuff#ill do oracle of seasons/ages next#since i never got the chance to play those

"I'm ... If I didn't have my head attached, I'm sure I'll just lose it!" Her voice has a nervous hitch to it. "Are you sure? We could find some healers ... I think — I think they're on the second floor?" For all that Dolly knew, they were hovering above the building! The entire building has her turned around, honestly. All these hallways look the same with their straight lines and clear, clean glass. ( A fun house look, everything warping and twisting — she blinks. It's gone. )
"I'm ..." & her words fade off a bit. She didn't feel alright. "Well, I'm okay. I've been ... better."
Dolly looks up — way, way up! How in the world she confused him for her reflection, she'll never know. The man had height enough to scare the snakes out of trees! Her brows furrow for a second before recognition hits. "Oh! You're an agent here, right? Well, of course you are, you're leaving the building! Duh." Her giggle is bright, a flash of sunlight in a dark corner. It's nervous. Her anxiety lives somewhere in her throat. "Are you ... I think I've seen you in the Level III meetings, right? I don't know if we've been introduced? I'm Dolly!"
Bright, bright, bright as she holds her hand out. There's a tremble there, like she means to bolt at any sudden and immediate movements.
Hale was supposed to be back at home, he had requested the day off on purpose. He didn't want to be disturbed, at least for a little bit. Apparently he had forgotten paperwork, though. Hence his return to the Cerberus offices.
After an hour or so, he had just finished up the paperwork before heading out the door. Although, he was met with another person, entering as he exited. He shook his head and let out a laugh. "It's alright, I'm fine." Hale reassured them.
"I'm a big guy, I'm a little stronger than I look, hopefully." He chuckled and moved out of the way. "Are you alright?" The older man asked. "You look a little... pale?"

Introduction
This is a fan analysis about the results of 24 polls posted on Tumblr by the user @zeldatourney. Huge thanks to them to have organized this tourney.
(Keep in mind my first language isn't English, so I might make some minor mistakes)
This is a long post with multiple graphs, so I'm putting a "Read more" button here!
For each game, the question asked was "How high does [game] rank?" with 7 answers possible to choose:
S tier (One of the greatest)
A tier (A favorite)
B tier (I like it)
C tier (Meh)
D tier (I'd rather play something else)
F tier (AWFUL)
I haven't played this game
The poll started on the 2nd of December 2024 and ended the 9th of December 2024.
Disclaimer: This is not a representation of the Zelda community as a whole, but a result of people who saw and voted for the polls between those previously quoted dates.
For the rest of this post, I will simplify each game's name by its abbreviations. For example, "A Link To The Past" will be named "ALTTP". The polls didn't specify if it contains the original games or both the original games and the remakes. They will be named as such:
[TLOZ] The Legend of Zelda
[AOL] Adventure of Link
[ALTTP] A Link to the Past
[LA] Link's Awakening (DX) (+ the unnamed 2019 remake)
[OOT] Ocarina of Time (3D)
[MM] Majora's Mask (3D)
[OOS] Oracle of Seasons
[OOA] Oracle of Ages
[FS] Four Swords (Anniversary Edition)
[TWW] The Wind Waker (HD)
[FSA] Four Swords Adventures
[TMC] The Minish Cap
[TP] Twilight Princess (HD)
[PH] Phantom Hourglass
[ST] Spirit Tracks
[SS] Skyward Sword (HD)
[ALBW] A Link Between Worlds
[HW] Hyrule Warriors (Legend / Definitive Edition)
[TFH] Tri Force Heroes
[BOTW] Breath of the Wild
[COH] Cadence of Hyrule
[AOC] Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
[TOTK] Tears of the Kingdom
[EOW] Echoes of Wisdom
Collected data
Each poll being independent from each other, the number of votes varies from one poll to another.
For each games, I added the percentage (as picked up from the HTML for a better precision). The result is either 99.999, 100 or 100.001, so I sometimes cheated to add or remove 0.001 somewhere. Tumblr doesn't give you access to the exact numbers of vote per option.
So before ranking the games, I have to show you first what games are the most played. Adding all answers and doing:
Played (%) = 100 - "I haven't played this game" (%)
I'll use colours to differentiate 2D games (in terms of gameplay) to 3D games. I'll also highlight spin-off games and multiplayer games.
Here are the games played by more than 75% of players:
We can already see a huge pattern. All the 3D games are there. And the only 2D Zelda game to be played by 75% of players is ALBW. BOTW and OOT are the most played games of the sample, as those were huge turning points and both cultural and commercial success.
We can also notice the difference of 5% between the least played 3D game (MM) and the most played 2D game (ALBW).
Let's continue to look at the other played games:
EOW is most likely low as it's the most recent game, at this time, but also because it's not a 3D game. And the hype train was low compared to TOTK. (3 months of anticipation compared to 4 years)
And finally, the multiplayer games are the least played games, excluding COH. Also worth noting that all the spin-off games cited can also be played with another player, but it wasn't the main focus of the communication. COH being a musical tactical rogue-lite only appealed to a specific part of Zelda fans.
If these polls contained the CD-i Zelda games, Link's Crossbow Training and Tingle games, the score would probably be under COH, but we never know!
I'll keep these colours as labels, to recognize them better in the next images.
Alright. Time to share the ranking. Here is the global result, sorted by release date in North America:
It's kind of a lot to see! Overall, the games are pretty liked. So first, let's take a look at the disliked games:
Please note that the X-axis was zoomed, so we can see the result better.
We can already notice that AOL makes a huge contrast. As this game is considered as the black sheep of the franchise because of how different it is, its reputation mostly came from the difficulty of that game.
Almost a factor of 0.5 divides the first disliked game to the second. TFH the second disliked and the original TLOZ follows.
ALBW is the least disliked, with under 1%, counting D tier and F tier.
But notice the F-tier (red) line. It varies a lot, so let's take a look at the most hated games:
Yep, TOTK is third, this time. As I don't personally think it's awful, it definitively disappointed many by being too close to BOTW and having a lot of issues BOTW didn't have.
Nobody voted "F tier" for ALTTP nor OOT. Same for OOS but keep in mind this game was the least voted one too!
Alright, enough for the hate! Let's look at the most appreciated Zelda games.
Yep, the majority of Zelda fans like 22.5 out of 24 of the games! (TFH being exactly 50, I half-counted it!)
TWW is being almost unanimously appreciated, with almost 97%, and the second one to get this score is TMC, a 2D game, with more than 96%!
You can notice some gaps, like between ST and COH, and then between the Oracle games and TOTK.
Now let's look at the most loved games:
5 3D games are in the top 5, except for SS and TOTK. TMC is very close to beat BOTW and remains the most loved 2D Zelda game. Notice how SS and TOTK make a huge gap between the game before and the game after, like voters use them as references. The two Hyrule Warriors games are, in a funny way, between the Oracle ones.
Let's add a step forward and look at the S tier only:
Nothing changes for the top 9 games. However, EOW seems more nuanced and is less considered as best than TOTK.
Final results
And finally, let's rank them using the Majority Judgment:
The Majority Judgment was created to propose a more democratic way to vote. Each candidate has multiple mentions, and you (the elector) must attribute one mention to each candidate. Since this poll uses this exact method of vote, I decided to rank them all using the Majority Judgment. To count using the Majority Judgment, you must focus on the 50% axis, and look at the category that crosses it (more than 50%). That gives you the tier, and the best tier wins.
When two or more candidates get the same tier, there are multiple ways to rank:
The first way is to put a line at the middle and see which line has the higher percentage. (Less precise but more simple)
The second way is to divide it into multiple tiers by doing the first method again and again until each candidates has a unique tier. (More precise but less simple)
But since I didn't want to compare B++++ to B+++-, I used the first method. It's my democracy and I do whatever I want!
Just keep in mind that depending on the way to count these games may be swapped:
ALTTP and LA
OOA and PH
AOC and HW
SO, for the data. Top 5 is TWW, MM, TP, OOT and BOTW. To be honest, I imagined MM to be a more nuanced game, or at least more controversial, since it has a unique concept.
The A tier only contains 2D games, except SS. TMC, ST and ALBW are the favourite 2D games. ALTTP and LA are always very close. The last one of the tier is EOW.
Only mainline games are in the S and A tier.
The first game of the B tier is a spin-off game, followed by TOTK.
TFH was one vote away from being in the B tier. And no surprise, AOL is the last one.
To sum up, according to the participants who voted for these polls:
S tier
🥇 The Wind Waker
🥈 Majora's Mask
🥉 Twilight Princess
⭐ Ocarina of Time
⭐ Breath of the Wild
A+ tier

🧿| ORACLE (CYvn MC)
hehe finally drew my version of Oracle's Superhero Outfit from Criminally Yours vn.
Small lore details , wip thoughts , alt wip ss , some imagines , ideas dump ,and theories if you squint under the cut:
💥👓💥👓💥👓💥👓💥👓💥👓💥👓💥👓
Starting with the design piece that I love : Eye shaped witch hat. I absolutely wanted that to be a part of this. Also making the oracle face mask black was due to this , I wanted to imitate the pupil of an eye. At the right angle this looks like a purple eye looking at you. Now imagine the city posters being a purple eye looming over you and the small time villains constantly checking over their shoulder to see if any purple eye is in sight (the posters end up jumpscaring them lol). RAD if I must say so myself.
I wanted the design to be very cryptid. sort of scary. But with the added pop of vibrant colours i didn't achieve that. Though the oracle mask only being glowing eye holes sort of feels disconnected from normal humans. Big reason why the mask is 'faceless' and 'expressionless'. Now imagine oracle looking down at you and all you see (in the right lighting and right angel) is a big purple eye (hat) with glowing pupils looking at you.... hehehe (these ideas are all going into my to be drawn list lolol)
Predicting the future is sort of considered a witchy practice so I think it's a neat detail.
I am kind of conflicted with how vibrant the cape colors turned out , i sort of like them for the reason I added them but I feel like they are a bit too bright . Maybe the lore reason would be to make oracle costume more distinct and hence more marketable. i do think that kids love oracle the hero and I want you to imagine civilian Mc going about their day and seeing random kids in a kid sized gradient cloaks. They would be proud of their work as a hero I think. I do managed to keep the cloak's color values stable so I do think that it would look better in night light. maybe it will look duller and darker in night scene... i need to test that out.... (tosses another idea into my to be drawn list)
NOW for the reason i made blue+red the color gradient is because...... *drum roll*..... i dreamt about it!! I had a dream where my oracle was wearing a hero outfit with a COMPLETE blue + red gradient as their color scheme. I HAD to include that it was destined in the fates.... i got an oracle about my oracle ... this is meant to be...
originally the cape wasn't even planned but after that dream I had a prophecy to fulfill LOLL
The colors coincidentally match with the two leads of CY!! I told you it's meant to be!! Blue being Chronos' color and red being associated with a Thesis so far. AND the mix of blue and red is purple.... Oracle's color.... coincidence? i think not. I color picked the gradient transition where it's purple to get 'Oracle's' purple and I love this concept sm.
I like to think that for lore reasons , since nik took the role of chronos because of oracle and wes is said to be a fan of oracle (basically they both greatly admire oracle) so they choosed their villain/hero costume colors based on oracle's. they match!!!!!
I wanted the reference sheet layout look like it was taken out of an artbook or a magazine . i kinda like the way it turned out . Adore the font effect used for 'Oracle', Its giving comic book style and i love it.
Originally I wanted the colour scheme to be more teal/peacock green. but in the end i scrapped the idea because the colors looked too busy. here's a wip ss:

I have no idea why I made the brown leather bag thingy around the thigh. It is too small to contain anything now that I look at it. At the time of making i thought "hmmm maybe it contains a button to call for backup" but I don't like that idea anymore. I am thinking of turning it into a 'hidden' insulin monitor.
How many eye motifs can you spot on the hero outfit? let's see! (take a look at the reference and guess before reading the following portion)
1) The eye witch hat hehe i love that one.
2) The brooch holding the cape around the neck of oracle .
3) The center of the peacock feather looks like an eye (more on this later).
4) The knee supports were to be shaped like an eye (golden sclera with purple iris) but i didn't commit to the bit rip. Its more visible on the left knee i think.
5) The cape is supposed to be eye shaped at some point but i think it wraps around so the shape isn't obvious. I'll let this one slide/silly
6) The glowing eyes on the mask.... no i am not cheating now LOLL /silly
Referencing to two already mentioned points (both including the word peacock) , I initially planned to make the color scheme more peacock color palette and use a lot of peacock motifs because 1) peacock is my favourite bird. 2) I wanted it to be kind of symbolic to how i associate Oracle with peacock and nik betraying Oracle's trust (hence acting like a snake) and how snake and peacock are natural enemies.... does anyone see the vision.... 3) one day i randomly remembered that OH! the center of the peacock feather is an eye!! eye symbols = oracle!! brain blast!!... But i didn't end up following with it because 1) the color palette looked too busy. 3) the repeated peacock feather looked busy AND very out of aesthetic with CY's world. imo it would have worked in a more fantasy setting. Still pondering on point 2) though... maybe I will make it more thematic rather than literal.
At one point I wanted to give this a futuristic color palette but that involved a lot of blues . maybe I'll try to design chronos' villain outfit in futuristic aesthetic for fun.
At one point I went into a rabbit hole of more fantasy esque / magical hero outfit references (I do have concept arts drawn from those references LOL , If someone asks about it I'll gladly share haha) but then i concluded CY is a bit more modern and non magical for that /pos. Though I think you can still see some influence seeping in in this design haha. It is magical in my heart/silly
If you asked Oracle what it is like being under the hero costume, they'll answer "Hot asf" and no they don't mean it in a sexy way XD. The costume gets WARM and not in a good way.
Do i think Oracle reused Mama oracle's old hero outfit? yes. But i think to better fit the decade's aesthetic the outfit is redesigned every so often. So it isn't the PROPER mama oracle outfit but there are influences. The witchy eye hat is definitely one of the classics. In my head that hat is now Oracle's brand and can't be replaced.
If you read this far then I love you <33 I hope my oracle always looks over you like a guardian angel. Thank you for reading this. I would love to read your thoughts and maybe your thoughts on *YOUR* oracle designs!!

On the Zelda Timeline
First of all.... fuck the Historia lol. It's just. Wrong. It ignores in-game statements, manuals, interviews where developers stated their intent, the works. That timeline is full of it lol.
But anyway, listen, the Zelda timeline isn't "complicated" or "obtuse" and each game is NOT "just a retelling of the same legend"
Damn near every game in the franchise that's been released is very clear about where it lies with relation to at least one other game.
from the top:
The Legend of Zelda (LoZ) - the first one, we're starting here.
The Adventure of Link (AoL) - a direct sequel LoZ, featuring the same Link.
A Link to the Past (LttP) - a prequel to LoZ, from "before Hyrule was a unified kingdom".
Link's Awakening (LA) - a sequel to LttP, featuring the same Link.
Ocarina of Time (OoT) - a prequel to LttP, portraying events from its backstory.
Majora's Mask (MM) - a direct sequel to OoT, following the same Link.
Oracle of Seasons (OoS) and Oracle of Ages (OoA) go one after the other in either order, but take place in between LttP and LA. This is stated Developer Intent as per interviews, and why they open with Link approaching the Triforce from the end of LttP and ending the linked campaign with Link on the boat from the beginning of LA. I'm going to list Seasons first and Ages second just because that's their sku order.
so at this point the timeline is very straightforward and looks thusly: OoT, MM -> LttP, OoS/OoA, LA -> LoZ, AoL
now, continuing on...
Four Swords (FS) comes out attached to an expanded port of Link to the Past which has new content. Said new content includes a temple dedicated to FS', er, Four Sword, which has been corrupted and is in Ganon's hands. FS is said to take place prior to LttP and is "potentially the earliest in the timeline", but exact placement is unclear at time of release.
The Wind Waker (WW) - this presents our first (and only) timeline split. It explicitly takes place after the future of OoT where the final boss fight against Ganon took place, the Hero of Time disappearing afterwards (because Link then travelled into the past and experienced the events of MM) At this time we do not know which timeline split off from OoT that LttP, and everything after it, follows on from.
Four Swords Adventures (FSA) - a direct sequel to FS, featuring the same Link & Zelda, and firmly takes place between OoT and LttP (and by extension, means FS does as well). Stated Developer Intent was to better portray events from LttP's backstory and explain how the Four Sword wound up in Ganon's control. It also, for the first time, shows the rise of a new incarnation of Ganon, firmly splitting the OoT Ganon and LttP Ganon as separate beings.
The Minish Cap (MC) - Very firmly the earliest chronological game at the time of its release. Just, comes before everything else in the list at present.
Twilight Princess (TP) - takes place after OoT, but on the MM side of the split, carrying over characters and plotlines from MM and the ending of OoT where Link went back to being a child and warned the kingdom of Ganon's actions. Also sets up stuff for FSA and LttP. This firmly establishes that LttP takes place on the MM half of the timeline split.
so, to take a look at things now, timeline looks like this: MC -> OoT {timeline splits} - OoT, MM -> TP -> FS, FSA -> LttP, OoS/OoA, LA -> LoZ, AoL - OoT -> WW
coincidentally, the next couple of releases would be WW split games heh
Phantom Hourglass (PH) - a direct sequel to WW, featuring the same Link & Zelda
Spirit Tracks (ST) - a sequel to Phantom Hourglass, taking place a few generations later
Skyward Sword (SS) - the new earliest chronological game in the timeline, taking place before even MC
A Link Between Worlds (LBW) - sequel to LttP taking place some generations later but with some returning long-lived characters
Hyrule Warriors (HW) - officially "non-canon", but it takes place some time after TP, Ganon's spirit having been sealed away and the next incarnation not able to be born until he breaks free, so prior to FSA.
Tri Force Heroes (TFH) - a direct sequel to LBW featuring the same Link.
so the timeline looks thus at this point in time: SS -> MC -> OoT {timeline splits} - OoT, MM -> TP -> HW -> FS, FSA -> LttP, OoS/OoA, LA -> LBW, TFH -> LoZ, AoL - OoT -> WW, PH -> ST
Hyrule Warriors Legends - an expansion of HW that adds a new story which sees the WW branch of the timeline, from WW through ST, being pulled in to the TP one. Again, "non-canon", but this serves as a convenient spot to point at if one wanted to argue that the two timelines converged again at some point
Why is that convenient? Well, because the next release was
Breath of the Wild (BotW) - references events of OoT, and takes place 10,000 years after the last time "The Calamity" Ganon ravaged the lands of Hyrule. Also seems to reference, among other things, events of both TP and WW, which would suggest that it takes place after both of them at once, which is contradictory... unless the timelines merged back into one at some point.
But really, this is where Nintendo makes a clean break. BotW is either its own standalone thing, or it takes place so far out from prior entries that putting it on a timeline doesn't matter. For reference, that timescale irl is equivalent of looking at when the Ice Age was wrapping up with respect to present day.
From here on out things are less defined, if at all, with relation to pre-BotW games, and are more just in a BotW aesthetic if they're not placed relative to BotW itself.
Cadence of Hyrule (CoH) - another "non-canon" entry, and a crossover one at that. No stated placement, but, the game features a young Ganon who doesn't have the Triforce of Power who grows up, turns into his big beast form, and ravages Hyrule before being defeated, which conveniently is the backstory for the original LoZ, so one could arguably put it prior to it but after LBW, making it the origin story of the Ganon who appears in the original Famicom games.
Age of Calamity (AoC) - yet another "non-canon" entry, but is seemingly a prequel to BotW that branches a new timeline split (lol) by way of actually being a sequel to BotW via the use of time travel.
Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) - a direct sequel to BotW that, surprise, involves time travel that involves possibly overwriting large swathes of Hyrule's history, back to and possibly even including OoT, if you subscribe to BotW being in the same timeline continuity as prior entries. I don't really want to think about the implications of that lol.
anyway, so the timeline either looks like this: SS -> MC -> OoT {timeline splits} - OoT, MM -> TP -> HW -> FS, FSA -> LttP, OoS/OoA, LA -> LBW, TFH -> CoH -> LoZ, AoL - OoT -> WW, PH -> ST {unconnected} BotW, AoC, TotK
or, if you believe in timeline unification, this: SS -> MC -> OoT {timeline splits} - OoT, MM -> TP -> HW - OoT -> WW, PH -> ST -> HW {timeline merges} FS, FSA -> LttP, OoS/OoA, LA -> LBW, TFH -> CoH -> LoZ, AoL -> -> -> BotW, AoC, TotK
Echoes of Wisdom (EoW) comes out in just under three weeks. We have no idea when it will take place. Does it really matter where? No, of course not. None of this really does, but the developers working on the games clearly put a lot of time and effort into these sorts of things and I think it's neat to acknowledge that work and be able to lay everything out like this.
Anyway yeah thanks for coming to my TED Talk
