Helping Hand

So I've been playing with the Stardew Valley Expanded Mod, and Morris kind of grew on me.

Also, I wrote a fic a very long time ago, and hc the farmer you make is mute.

When the superiors at Joja Mart laid down their displeasure at losing Pelican Town, Morris was cut loose within the week. No one came to work anymore, the villagers all ignored him, and then a freak storm literally destroyed the building.

Morris had been on the rocks before, but this was an entirely new low. Without income, his pitiful savings that he would normally put back into the store was draining fast, and homelessness was soon a real worry.

However, salvation came from the one person that seemed to cause Joja Mart's entire downfall.

The farmer noticed him picking through what remained of the store one day, and offered him their canteen of coffee. He wanted to reject it, but having sold his coffee maker to stretch his money, Morris took it and downed it within seconds. The farmer didn't seem phased, instead handing him their entire lunchbox before heading off to do Yoba knows what.

It was his first filling meal in days.

Morris eventually salvages what he can, and realizes one day he'll no longer be able to afford the bus to come back to town. No one around wanted to hire him, which wasn't terribly surprising with how hard he had pushed Joja. A company he thought had his back, a company he thought cared, and now it hit him that no, no matter what he did they just tossed him aside like garbage.

He sits at the bus stop, feeling miserable for himself even as the farmer stops by. They look concerned, and for some reason, Morris just spits out all the words that he'd internalized.

"I'm about to lose my home."

The farmer looks shocked, then horrified, and Morris is waiting for the sneer that never comes. Instead, the farmer pulls out their notepad and scribbles down something before handing it over, along with some money.

Go pack your things, and then come to my farm.

He wants to argue, but knows his stubbornness won't really get him anywhere. So he takes the trip home, packs up, and returns the next day. Pam seems surprised to see him with bags and goes off to gossip as Morris takes the short walk over to the farm. It's a nice place, some chickens scurrying around him as he makes his way to the main home. The town doctor is sitting on an outside bench, and while clearly a bit weary, motions for him to head on inside.

"We have you set up in our den, my dear has gone to see about arranging your own home for the time being."

A home?

There's a curtain partitioning the den from the rest of the open house, giving Morris some privacy he was extremely grateful for. It's clear the futon spread out had been hastily placed, but when Morris was expecting to sleep in a barn, it was a welcomed sight. He spends most of the day just sitting on the futon, before he's dragged out to join the doctor and farmer for dinner. Harvey, his name is Harvey, interprets for Morris what the farmer is signing, saying Morris is welcome to stay until he gets something figured out.

"Why are you helping me?" It sounds a bit rude, but the farmer just smiles.

I used to work for Joja, and I know. You were just doing your job.

It was nice to hear such kind words.

True to their word, a decently sized cabin is set up near the pond located on the farm. It's strange to just be handed this, but Morris isn't complaining as he lays down on a real bed for the first time in a few days.

Since I don’t have base thoughts on my own but I feel I can expand on others, I will go with the very helpful list you provided!

Favorite food:

Dew - I feel like Dew is just not super in love with food? Like he eats because he has to? I think he enjoys comfort food like grilled cheese sandwiches and pasta. I do thing he is a big fan of breakfast food for dinner.

Rain: I feel like Rain is more experimental. Likes to try new things. Enjoys things that contain lots of vegetables. I HC that water and earth ghouls don’t eat animals so he would not. If we gonna go with my realist HC kilonova ghouls, obvi his and Dew’s fav food is waffles with 2 pounds of strawberries.

Phantom: I feel like he’s still very overwhelmed with all of the choices. It’s not that he likes bland things. It’s just a lot to process. Texture is important. Cereal is definitely his favorite. Especially if it has those little crunchy marshmallows.

Drinks:

Dew is a water, beer or black coffee kind of ghoul

Rain also is a fan of hydration but he can also get down with fresh pressed juice like say apple ginger, smoothies. He isn’t crazy about alcohol but he enjoys cider, and dry white wine, and champagne (he likes the idea of it more than the taste)

Phantom loves fizzy drinks. Except for kombucha. He feels that was really a nasty trick to play on someone. When he discovers all of the craft soda in crazy flavours like green apple or vanilla raspberry he is pumped. He feels like a true connoisseur. Loves the ones in glass bottles. Makes him feel very fancy. And he feels like he can expand his palate a little while sticking to a non-intimidating category.

Weather:

Dew and Rain I think both enjoy the summer. Dew likes the heat and Rain likes that he can spend more time in the water.

I think they also enjoy the winter because they can hibernate and stay cuddled in a pile in front of a warm fire and the snow is pretty.

Phantom hasn’t been around long enough to form an opinion but I suspect he will enjoy fall the most.

Gamers?

I think Dew enjoys games that don’t require a large time investment. Like something you can enjoy casually like Mario kart or Tetris. Rain is absolutely a gamer. Loves mmorpgs, enjoys strategy, expansive worlds, building characters. Dew will curl around him and go to sleep while Rain stays awake all night. Rain is absolutely relentless about improving the Wi-Fi connection at the abbey for this reason.

Phantom enjoys games that are lighthearted and fun. Definitely a fan of animal crossing, stardew valley, Pokémon etc.

Dew enjoys sour candy. Especially those rainbow belts. Rain isn’t a huge candy lover but he does enjoy chocolate. Phantom def likes peanut butter cups. Like a lot.

Pastries?

Lance:

Lance isn't jealous by nature. After all, he, like Farmer, has plenty of friends both among the adventurers and now among the regulars now that he's moved to Stardew Valley, so there's nothing wrong with devoting some time with friends. And the pink-haired adventurer in no way forbids the Farmer from spending time with their close friend... as long as their close friend doesn't break the boundaries of what's allowed. Because if they start hitting on Farmer or start being really touchy-feely, Lance will have a reason to be a little worried. Nevertheless, he'll resolve things in a civilised manner and explain to Farmer what and why Lance is feeling this way.

Magnus:

Magnus is having a bad time after this seemingly completely inconsequential incident. Even he and Farmer have discussed the moment and his consort has assured Magnus that whoever hugged them "for too long" (Magnus' words) is only a friend to them and Farmer will cross their courtship attempts, if any. Which, however, didn't help the old wizard shake off his feelings of jealousy. So let the Farmer not be surprised if their spouse is very close to them and a little suspicious of their friends.

Victor:

Victor is sure to drive himself to the brink of paranoia when in reality it is the Farmer who loves the spaghetti lover and not their rather clingy friend. The thought that it's all false accusation and the thought that Farmer already regrets choosing Victor begin to bang against each other in Victor's head and it affect him in real life. Eventually, he can't stand it and asks Farmer to talk to him. What a relief Victor will feel when he realises that there is absolutely no reason to be jealous and suspect cheating! Why hadn't they both talked before?

Olivia:

Oh, Olivia knows that her partner is loyal to her and that they love each other madly. Alas, some of Farmer's friends are behaving a little inappropriately, since they allow themselves more than is usually allowed in friendship. Then the businesswoman has to remind everyone that she's Farmer's wife, in case anyone forgot that. Nothing extreme or toxic, just Olivia taking some precautions. Very skilfully, by the way- so skilfully, without destroying the friendship of Farmer and their friends, and without ruining her relationship with her spouse. The wolves are fed and the sheep are safe, as they say.

Sophia:

Sophia doesn't understand the concept of jealousy as such at all. Of course, just because the pink-haired girl may occasionally switch into "I wanna attention right now!" mode and lash out at Farmer for hugs, she doesn't harbour jealousy towards Farmer's friends. Because Sophia knows that if a friend lives far away (as in her case with Scarlett), you want to spend more time before they leave again. Besides, the Farmer always comes back to Sophia, always tells her about their day and always makes her smile and happy. She trusts them, so no jealousy.

Claire:

Claire had been walking around a little depressed all day. As much as she tried to distract herself from bad thoughts, the moment when Farmer's best friend, who came to visit them, started to hug and touch them for quite a long time, made Claire feel jealous. Sad, uninspired, maybe this isn't all as she imagines, maybe she'll start false accusations and hurt her spouse, or maybe... Luckily, the caring Farmer started the conversation first, as they couldn't understand why their wife had become so silent. They both solved their problem and Farmer reminded her that they love her and only her.

A/N: this is so cute, thank you for the request anon! I'm so happy i'm getting rqs now that aren't just creepypasta and stardew valley! (still love doing those fandoms, but it's nice to expand my writing a bit 👀)

Let's assume you work freelance like Cas, working at odd hours of the day/night together.

You'd absolutely have your desks side-by-side. It makes working more comforting and less draining for the both of you.

We know she keeps her desk completely clear of mess and clutter. So if that's something you struggle with, she'll happily help you clean and remind you to stay tidy.

If it's the middle of the night, and you're still working, she'd force you to take a break and get something to eat with her.

Late night drives & fast food. >>>

Your go-to places would prob be McDonalds and Jack In The Box.

Can't go wrong with 99 cent tacos and 1$ large sodas .🤷‍♀️

You'd also have a mini fridge between your desks, for when your both super busy but also super hungry.

It's stocked with energy drinks, sandwiches, and some lunchables.

Both of your diets are probably on the junky side due to your packed schedule.

So you both will eventually try to stock up some more healthy snacks like apples, nuts, protein bars, and veggie plates.

Cas is a computer genius also. So if your ever stressed with work or a code is broken, she'll fix it asap.

She honestly likes to take care of you sometimes, like if it's her day off, but not yours.

She'd make you something homemade to eat, sit and talk with you, and watch the screen over your shoulder.

And if it's your day off, but not hers, she'd offer you to sit in her lap and hangout with her till she's done for the day.

She seems like the type who wouldn't let anyone touch her hair.

But you are the only exception.

If she's out of the room while you get up to take a bathroom break, she'll hear you coming down the hall and tackle you to the ground in a wrestling match.

It's hard to get her off once the play fighting starts. (she's probably stronger than you, considering she used to be a wrestler)

You'd learn to like each others music taste, if you didn't already.

Even though you'd be sitting by each other all day, you still have to be focused on work.

Meaning there's not a ton of talking, especially when Cas really gets into the zone on whatever project she's doing.

She seems like a soft-rock kinda gal to me. Maybe some Lo-Fi if she's feeling really calm or tired.

You'd probably alternate who chooses the music each day. So Cas gets to choose the station one day, you get to choose the next day and so on.

Hopefully you like her family (and Bee) cause you'll be seeing them pretty often.

She usually calls in one of her brothers to run errands for her while the two of you are coding.

You'll also have to get used to Toast periodically busting through the walls of your shared room.

Once those two start fighting, it's best to just sit back and not get too involved. They'll work it out eventually.

The two of you have had multiple late night venting sessions, wondering if you chose the right career.

Cas especially feels this way.

Deep down she wants to pursue wrestling, but she just couldn't ever get the hang of it.

But at least you're both financially stable.

Overall having this career in a relationship with Cas would be peaceful.

As long as you can deal with Toast, Bee, and her 6 brothers <3

Yes and no. I don’t write full thoughts or quick blurbs in the second person, but HCs are fair game. However, I’ll never use “Y/n” in anything I write. It’s nothing personal really, I just think it’s clunky and awkward between regular dialogue.

Nope! If you don’t specify any pronouns in your ask or request, I default to gender neutral pronouns, but I can write for anyone.

If you specify in your request what kind of farmer you’d like to see, absolutely. However, because I am a straight sized and (mostly) able-bodied individual, and I try to research before writing about an experience I haven’t lived myself, your request may take me longer to get through than others. I want to represent people accurately and respectfully.

In general, I’ve been writing since I could pick up a pencil. I got in trouble at school for it a lot. Regarding Stardew Valley though, I’ve only been writing for it since October of 2023. So, about as long as I’ve had this blog.

Q. Who’s your favorite bachelor/ette?

I have no favorites, per se. Rather, I have ones I can write for easily, and others that I struggle with. I struggle with writing for Maru, Leah, and Emily. I can’t really relate to them, but I believe that has more to do with the way they’re written and not anything I have against them personally. The easiest would be Alex, Sam, Elliott, and Haley. Everyone else falls somewhere in the middle.

Q. Do you write for SDV Expanded/Ridgeside Village characters?

No. Because I play Stardew Valley on a switch and couldn’t mod the damn thing if my life depended on it, I don’t think I could accurately characterize them. From what I’ve seen of them though, they’re all very loveable and I wish I could learn more about them firsthand. The compilations I see are never extensive or detailed enough for me.
