I know Hogwarts Houses are not the thing to do anymore, but I came across someone who called Nancy Wheeler a Slytherin, and my brain wouldn't rest until I figured out what she would actually be.

It's not that Slytherin wouldn't be a logical choice in some ways. Nancy certainly has a strong desire to prove herself and plenty of ambition. However, those things are not what drive her, what motivate her.

Nancy would think that she's a Ravenclaw. She highly values truth and knowledge, but it's a means to an end for her. It's not the end goal itself. Knowledge is important to her because of what it gives her, the power and ability to act, and to make a difference.

She is highly like Hermione in this way, but therein lies my reasoning for ultimately choosing Gryffindor. Nancy, for all her intelligence, can be the most reckless, dunderheaded ball of loyalty and courage in the world. She can be a straight-up battering ram when rules she usually respects get in her way. Her motivation ultimately ends up being centered on justice and protectiveness.

Her ambition comes from a desire to be someone who can make a difference in the world; who can be seen for who she actually is, but also just because she cares. She wants to help people, and she'll use any means she can think of to do so (legal or not, lol)

eleven: chosen one sent to dismantle the system ???? gryffindor. arguably could consider hufflepuff bc loyalty but i think she more embodies a gryffindor.

mike: this one was tough bc i don't really like him (as a rule i don't fuck with adolescent boys they smell and get on my nerves. as a former math tutor i stand by that) gryffindor.

will: THAT BOY IS A HUFFLEPUFF !!! tbh mike asked the sorting hat to let them all be in the same house but the hat said </3 no thanks like will is plenty brave and could be a gryffindor but also it's toooo overstimulating for him.

lucas: hufflepuff..... like he's brave on behalf of his friends. he's brave but he also likes to keep his head down and not upset the norm. which is not bad at all like. that's just strategy. note how he joins the basketball team to try and balance out his friends' lameness

dustin: ravenclaw... need i say more....

max: torn... i could say gryffindor... i could say slytherin.... either way she would eat those bitches up. i think i'm more inclined to say slytherin just bc out of all of the party she's the wiliest. she has schemes brewing. also could make sense with eleven being distrustful of her at first and the gryffindor/slytherin rivalry idk idk

steve: CONTROVERSIAL TAKE..... hufflepuff. he's so cedric diggory to me. like i made this steak for u mama .... he's plenty brave and plenty reckless but he also knows the value of constance. his goal isn't to adventure, it's to excel in the norms of what he does. also he likes how docile the house seems to the general populace like. the badger bites ... you just don't expect it. slytherin was considered but he doesn't want to LOOK sneaky he wants to be sneaky and get away with it.

Mike gave Will a reassuring grin and suddenly someone caught his eye. A blonde young man stared at Will with a pair of cold, blue eyes. Mike didn't think much of it, since he was more interested in his best friends head being swallowed whole by the Sorting Hat.

A minute of silenced passed until the Sorting Hat yelled "Slytherin!"

Mike's eyes widened. Slytherin? How could the purest, most angelic being be sorted into the house of villains? Surely that must be some sort of mistake! Mike waited for the Sorting Hat to laugh and say, "Just kidding, Hufflepuff!" But no, no such thing happened. For a fleeting moment, Joyce's eyes met Mike's and he noticed the woman's confused state.

Will didn't seem to mind being sorted into that house, apparently, as he skipped towards his table being met with enthusiastic cheers and pats on the back. An older girl with dirty blonde hair whispered something to him and he giggled, whispering something back. He recognized the girl, her name was Robin Buckley and his sister would always complain about how annoying her jokes were and how she couldn't stand her.

Normally i’d ask for a prompt go along with this request, but I had something in mind, so here you go. 

Note: In this house what happened in S4. Vol. 2, that we do not speak of, that didn’t actually happen.

It's silly, but not at the same time, the way you're so utterly hyper aware of Steve Harrington and every little thing he does or says. It's that hyper awareness that makes you feel like you're going crazy sometimes, like you're imagining the things you notice. Like right now, how his hugs seem to linger. It’s a combination of insecurity and hope that makes you wonder if his hugs mean something more, if the linger is that of a good friendship or the chance that maybe, just maybe, your startlingly large crush is returned. 

It's typical for you to hug Steve goodbye, you hug all your friends goodbye, always have done. You were known as the hugger, and the 'good hugger' at that, your physical softness apparently making you ripe for hugging. You're not necessarily surprised by that, you're bigger, you're softer, where Nancy and Robin are lean lines, more angular than you, you are round curves and a soft stomach and that naturally changes the way you hug, how it feels to hug you, the same way hugging Steve differs from hugging Nancy or how hugging Robin feels different to hugging Hopper.

The thing about hugs with Steve is that they never used to linger. At the start they were quick, his hands always detached from you as he patted your back in an awkward sort of manner before pulling away. They were so quick that sometimes it felt like they might as well not happen at all, a wave or a handshake felt longer than those first few hugs...and then it changed. Slowly, over time, each moment lasting just a little bit longer. 

You held on a little longer, Steve's arms would tighter around you just a little bit more, hands holding you against him rather than awkwardly patting your back. Then it developed from there even more, an almost ridiculous reluctance to pull away forming, even as you did so, his hands would linger on the thickness of your waist or the width of your hips, yours trailing down his arms, as if two magnets struggling to pull apart. Then his lips would find the crown of your head, your temple, your forehead, your cheek, one last effort to make the moment last longer, eyes intense and smiling, the inevitable sound of Dustin or Mike gagging at the gesture, enough to make you believe that maybe you weren’t imagining it, that this was truly happening. That it was something a bit more than friendship that pushed Steve to linger, encouraged you to stay bound in his arms.

It doesn’t help that you’ve had a rough few days; Eddie being hunted down for murder, Vecna, Max being hunted by Vecna, Chriss dying, Jason being a supreme cult leader, Eddie nearly dying, Max in hospital, no idea if she’ll even wake up, Hawkins splitting in two...fuck, it’s been so utterly rough, so horrendously difficult that saying goodbye to Steve feels so extremely difficult, like if you leave him, if you blink, he’ll be gone too. Like you’ll never see him again. 

It’s why you push your cheek further into his chest, warmth and the steady beating rhythm of his heart beneath your ear as your arms wrap as tight as they can around his waist. It feels like Steve understands, he doesn’t say a word, but his arms wrap around you tight, squeezing pressure that helps the almost insurmountable feeling in your chest to ease, one of his hands cupping the back of your neck, fingers digging into a tight spot there. His chin lands on the top of your head, a weight, familiar and welcome as you close your eyes and just breathe him in. Like this, it’s easy to feel like you’re surrounded by Steve, like you’re the only two people in the world as the hug doesn’t just linger, but prolongs itself. 

You don’t want to let go. Don’t want to leave. Don’t want to go back to your empty house, your parents away on holiday, leaving you alone. Now an adult, now seen as responsible enough to care for the house while they enjoy the freedom of their child being an adult, finally. But, the world might be ending and you’re so fucking tired but so very scared at the same time. 

It’s almost like he knows what you’re thinking as he presses a kiss to your hair and mumbles out just loud enough for you to hear it, “Sleepover at mine?” It’s not something you’ve really done before, not normal for you and Steve to sleep round the other’s house, but the world is going to shit and maybe next year won’t even exist, maybe next week won’t, or tomorrow, and you really don’t want to leave Steve so you just nod under the weight of his chin and let him lead you to his car. 

Even that sees a reluctance to separate, an arm wrapped around your shoulders and neck, side pressed fully against your own, so close that you bump each other as you walk and find yourselves veering off course with each step. 

And maybe...maybe it’s not that the world is ending and you’re good friends, maybe, maybe it’s that you and Steve have been toeing the line between friendship and lovers for a while now, and the reality is that maybe you won’t get even a year together. Maybe the world is ending and maybe whatever hesistancy that always caused you to pull away is gone, replaced with a new found reality that lingering, being as close as you can for as long as you can is worth it because who knows what’s going to happen. Why fear rejection and humilation? Why fear the potential for unrequited love when everything might not even exist tomorrow?

All you know is wherever hell is, you’ll be in the thick of it, with Steve. Wherever he is, you’re not going to be far behind.

ive seen several of these posts today so i’m posting my objectively correct opinions

Gryffindor

lucas (objectively true although i respect the hufflepuff hc)

steve (need i say more)

hopper (need i say more x2)

jonathan (gives off major hufflepuff energy but i could write a whole analysis of why he’s a gryffindor)

Slytherin

nancy (i am 1000% certain of this. this is objectively fact. if you disagree you’re wrong)

max (obviously)

mike (i could also see gryffindor but i feel like his ambition/determination/cunningness is a more defining trait? you know what i mean?) (also i like the idea of the original party representing all four houses)

Hufflepuff

el (even though she’s like. the bravest motherfucker ever. i think she values her loyalty over that. like the lost sister plot really cemented el as hufflepuff in my mind)

will (not to discount that he’s a brave motherfucker i also just feel like he values his loyalty more)

murray (ik ik ravenclaw seems like the obvious choice but like. idk i just. yeah he fits here)

Ravenclaw

dustin (obviously)

erica (was torn for a while between slytherin and ravenclaw but i like to think her ambition comes from her love of knowing)

robin (she taught herself THREE languages for FUN what the fuck)

joyce (everyone ive seen puts joyce in hufflepuff but idk man it’s something about her curiosity)

fuck jkr, but like, stranger things characters x hogwarts?

eddie: hufflepuff. halfblood, he thinks. mum was a witch, doesnt have a clue about his dad. borderline disastrous in potions. tutoring from nancy wheeler kickstarted a long winded tale of babysitting younger students and dating steve harrington.

steve: slytherin. pureblood. really lived up to the spoilt slytherin pureblood stereotypes in his younger years, thankfully detached himself from them by about fifth year. a lot better at practical magic than theoretical subjects. sorted into slytherin because of the pressure his family put on him to be sorted there- wishes he could be re-sorted.

nancy: ravenclaw. pureblood. head girl, definitely. would’ve flourished in slytherin, wanted to spite her parents.

robin: hufflepuff. muggleborn. was almost in ravenclaw, and almost a hat stall.

jonathan: slytherin. half-blood. carries his camera to class more than he remembers his books. has dirt on everyone- anything that happens inside the castle walls is picked up by that damned camera.

argyle: hufflepuff. muggleborn. essentially the schools weed kingpin, widely known to the student body. teachers remain oblivious even when told directly- no ones sure what spell that is, but eddie’s largely believed to be behind it.

billy: slytherin. halfblood. touch his sister and you’ll have the blood prejudice cursed out of you within the hour.

dustin: ravenclaw. halfblood. muggle father, over-protective witch mother as she had tried to flee the magical world. only sees friends over holidays under the guise of being tutored by steve.

will: gryffindor. halfblood. sickly as a kid, so joyce is very overprotective. likely to receive regular howlers filled with concern about his eating and sleeping habits.

mike: pureblood. slytherin. likely to hex you in the halls. will not get caught.

max: muggleborn. slytherin. will hex mike in the halls. will not and has never been caught. her housemates decided blood purity didnt matter so much after all the moment she greeted her brother at the slytherin table. proved that herself with her hexing knowledge.

lucas: muggleborn. gryffindor. distracts mike whilst max hexes him every single time.

eleven: gryffindor. presumed a muggleborn due to growing up in an orphanage- actually a pureblood. somehow. despite dating mike, has never once told him that max is the one hexing him.
